Unenlighted: Sky and Wild don't have that good of a relationship due to Sky's guilt and Wild not feeling he's good enough when compared to any of his predecessors because he failed the kingdom once and it gets exacerbated by the events of TOTK, similar case with Flora and Sun.
Enlightened: Sky and Wild have a pretty good relationship, but it's still strained because of both their problems and the strain grows bigger after TOTK when Fi breaks, Sun likes Flora just fine as a descendant while Flora is incessantly tormented by the fact she always believed her entire life she'd never measure up to the other Zelda's because she couldn't fulfill her duty anymore than Wild could, and it causes communication.
Ascended: Sky and Twilight having a full blow custody war in the back because they both see Wild as a better successor than he believes himself to be due to the parallels to BOTW, TOTK and Skyward Sword even though it's technically Twilight Princess' spiritual sucessor (since it was originally made to be a sequel to that game) and Sky and Wild both get along well with one another, and instead of getting angry at Wild for breaking Fi he's more so worried for him and her equally (and then has to be held back by the rest of the Chain along with Twi to not eviscerate whatever's left of Ganondorf's body) meanwhile Sun all but surprise adopted Flora as a sister and is super supportive of all her pursuits and number one hype woman because she was as unhinged as her at her age and Flora is flabbergasted but really really happy and relieved she doesn't see her as a disappointment or anything and they get along like the sister she never had growing up. Specially since they can both bond over not being quite regular humans anymore and can help one another deal and learn more about it.
I will not elaborate.

It is said that hundreds of thousands of years ago, the Goddess Hylia lost her battle against an unrelenting evil.
Okay, well, lost isn’t exactly the right word, but she definitely didn’t win- just bought herself some time. After a battle that devastated the Surface, Hylia failed to kill the Demon King but managed to seal him away. And while peace befell her sacred land, she knew it would not last. It would take thousands of years for that seal to fail- an eternity for the inhabitants of her realm, but a blink of an eye for a Goddess such as herself.
If she couldn’t kill Demise this time around, the chances of her besting him they next time they clashed were slim to none.
Gods can’t kill Gods.
Hylia knew that in order to finish the battle once and for all, she would have to utilize the great power of the Triforce. The artifact, created by her sisters, was never meant to be wielded by deities, lest its ultimate power overwhelm them. No, only mortals- mortals with a worthy spirit- can hone its power into a single wish.
If Hylia had any hope of slaying the Demon King once and for all, she’d have to sacrifice her divinity and become one of the very mortals she was tasked with protecting.
With so little time to prepare, she hid the Triforce away inside of a temple and gathered all of her people inside. She tasked them with protecting the sacred power, keeping it safe until the time came that she would use it. And then, to ensure the safety of her little Hylians and the Triforce alike, she mustered her strength for the last time and sent her temple and the surrounding earth into the sky. They’d be far out of reach of the demons and monsters below, up above the clouds where the sun would shine on their faces and the wind would ruffle their hair. They’d never have to fear again- the only threat would be falling from such a height.
But Hylia had a plan for that, as well. She split her Hylians’ souls into halves, blessing them with a permanent protector in the shape of a godly bird. These birds, bonded forever to her people, would shield them from evil and prevent them from falling from the island of floating rocks. These birds would eventually become known as Loftwings, sacred gifts from the Goddess.
Still, Hylia was not finished. For a battle against the Demon King would be ugly and devastating- Demise did not fight fair- and the Goddess had to be prepared for every counter he could make. Firstly, she covered the sky with a barrier of clouds to hide away her precious Hylians and the sacred power. She focused her power into three wellsprings so when she is reborn, all she would have to do is meditate in the clear water to regain her memories and awaken the Goddess within. She spent weeks creating a soul for her mortal vessel. She called her Zelda.
And then, Hylia created a failsafe of sorts. A plan B, in case something went wrong that Hylia herself could not fix. Alongside the soul of Zelda, she went to work creating another. One with a strong enough spirit that, with tempering, would be able to wield the full Triforce. One who she could rely on of it all went wrong.
She called him Link.
Lastly, Hylia crafted a sword with the power to defeat such an evil as Demise. The spirit inside was blessed with infinite knowledge and, once tempered, would be an asset to her Chosen. After laying the sword to rest in the heart of a statue of herself, Hylia faded. Having done all of the preparation, all that she could do now was wait.
. . .
Thousands of years later, on a peaceful island in the sky, two special souls were born. Each of them split in two, just like the others, one half creating a Hylian and the other half creating a Loftwing. They grew together, just as Hylia intended.
Link, her Chosen Hero, was oddly soft. He was kind and gentle and a little bit of a pushover. The kid spend long hours of the day either dozing or flying with his Loftwing, he was bullied and didn’t stand up for himself, he rarely spoke at all.
It would take a lot of work to make him the Hero that Hylia required.
Zelda, on the other hand, was perfect. Hylia’s spirit rested within, but no one was the wiser. She was a strong personality, bossy but kind. Her smile could light up a whole room. She was confident and empathetic: where Link lacked the capacity to stand up for himself, Zelda always spoke out. When Link slept in, Zelda woke him in time for class. When Link was lost in his thoughts, mindlessly soaring through the air, Zelda always reminded him to come home before the sun set.
Truly, the Hero came to depend on Zelda. And she loved him.
And then she was stolen away.
All was not going as planned. Immediately after Zelda was stolen from her perch above the clouds, the failsafe was activated and the spirit of the Goddess Sword awoke. Link, wielding the blade, fearlessly dove through the parted clouds in search of his dear Zelda.
Anyone would be shocked by the transformation of the child. While he remained kind and thoughtful, he hardened during his divine quest. His skill with the blade grew exponentially, his body and his mind strengthened, and he had the courage to do whatever was asked of him.
But still, as Zelda worked to recover her memories of Hylia, Link was not yet ready to fight in her stead.
In order to reach his dearest friend, he had to temper his sword along with his spirit. He did this by completing the Silent Realm trails put in place by the Golden Three. Farore’s honed his courage, Nayru’s strengthened his wisdom, and Din’s tested his power.
He completed them without complaint, desperate to see his Zelda again.
He had no idea how short their reunion would be.
Zelda, his best friend, the love of his life, the person who he risked everything for, had revealed their roles in the Gods’ divine game. That she was none other than Hylia herself. And that… that she had used him.
And still, it wasn’t over. He could not yet wield the Triforce.
There was one more Silent Realm that he had to complete: Hylia’s own. The Goddess’s Silent Realm was the hardest of all of them. Not because of its technical difficulty, but because it took Link’s home- his safe space- and warped it. Turned it against him. This Silent Realm’s purpose was not to test his virtues, but to forge the Hero’s Spirit. To make him into something more, more powerful, more courageous, more wise. It would take all the work he’d done thus far and make change his spirit permenantly.
It took him ages to complete Hylia’s final trail.
And when he did, it wasn’t just his spirit that was changed.
You see, one cannot strengthen their spirit when their soul is split in half. In order to become Hylia’s perfect weapon, Link’s soul had fused back together. He emerged from the trail with a new body, a new mind, a new him. The most notable change was the massive crimson wings sprouting from his upper back. The curled tail and fan of red feathers at his lower back. The red spots on his cheeks.
But much had changed under the surface as well. He was no longer Link. And he wasn’t Aepon either. He has all of their memories, all of their thoughts, all of them, but he was someone entirely new. He was himself, and he felt complete in a way he never had before.
As Link and as Aepon, he always felt a hollowness that he could not explain. In fact, he didn’t even realize he felt it until it was gone. After his fusion, he feels whole. There’s a fullness in his chest, a peace in his mind, that were not there before.
He was not Link. He was not Aepon.
He decided to call himself Sky.
He finished his divine quest, he made it through Sky Keep and wished upon the Triforce. He rushed to the Sealed Temple to hold Zelda when she woke. He defeated Ghirahim and his monsters and the God of Evil and Hatred when Hylia’s plan went awry.
He had finally done it; he had become Hylia’s Chosen Hero. He’s just… a little different now.
. . .
Some notes!
• When Sky is first formed, he’s so clumsy. Link had never had wings before and Aepon’s never had a human body before. So maneuvering around his very difficult. Those wings are heavy! His balance is off for days.
• Everything that Link learned, Sky knows. He’s an excellent swordsman, a musician, and an artist. He’s just as welcoming and humble and soft as Link used to be. Everything that Aepon learned, Sky knows. He grew wings and instantly already knew out to fly, he can speak to birds (when I say he can speak to birds, I mean this man chirps), and he can do those cool spiral attacks in the air. He’s just as proud and loving and fierce as Aepon used to be.
• He is NOT like Four. While he is two separate parts made whole, there are no Link thoughts. No Aepon thoughts. Just Sky thoughts. It’s very confusing in his head, trying to sort through two separate memories of the same moment, but Sky tries to focus more on the present than the past.
• Kind of bouncing off of that last one, Sky doesn’t know how to talk about himself before his fusion. He often has a hard time differentiating between the two perspectives as he tells stories, which makes things confusing for everyone. So he just… doesn’t.
• There is definitely some grief in k owing you’ve changed so much that you’re unrecognizable. The part of him that remembers being Link misses the feeling of hugging his Loftwing or- oh I don’t know- FITTING THROUGH DOORS. The part that remembers being Aepon misses the weight of his Hylian on his back, misses the freedom of the open air. Sky harbors these feelings but doesn’t quite know how to express them.
• Those first few days after his quest are all about self discovery. It makes Sky VERY uncomfortable to be called ‘Link,’ and his friends do that quite often by accident. And while Sky is trying to figure out who he is, they’re all mourning the loss of their friend.
• SO SOFT!!! He’s a hugger and his wings are SO WARM. He’s so kind and gentle but also literally killed a God so don’t cross him. (My favorite character traits)
• He can’t fit into shirts anymore- no way he’s fitting anything over his shoulders- and his Sailcloth is rendered useless now that he has wings. But he can’t bear to not use it anymore, so he wraps it around his chest to cover himself. Zelda helps him the first few times as he’s still learning coordination of his wings.
• Flying is SO important to him. I cannot stress this enough. He spends like half the day in the air.
• Shoes are a big no. It’s a huge sensory issue for his bird brain. But that’s okay because in theory, his feet barely touch the ground.
• BIRD BOY BIRD BOY BIRD BOY BIRD BOY
• He’s my favorite!! I have so much more to say about him but this is long enough so I’ll shut up for now! But there will definitely be more!

LoZ: BotW - Why I Think Zelda Couldn't Unlock Her Magic
I'm gonna try & explain this in DnD terms if I can.
1 problem, I think, is that she was approaching unlocking her magic in a similar manner to that of a Cleric, when really, it's possible that she's more of a Divine Soul Sorcerer.
Clerics, their Divine Magic is more so on loan from their patron as that magic isn't really their own to begin with. Because of this, their magic is directly connected to their faith in & devotion to their patron.
Divine Soul Sorcerers are different in that some are the result of a, possibly distant, familial relation to a Divine being, while others have a sort of holy, prophetic destiny that marks them as vessels of Divine Magic.
Zelda is both of these things. Not only is she a direct ancestor to Hylia's mortal vessel (& depending on your hc all Zeldas could possibly be Hylia's reincarnation, this one included), but she is also one of the 2-3 central players in a cyclical destiny that repeats itself over & over again even when the main opposition in the prophecy isn't the one currently causing issues (ie. Ganondorf/Demise's bastard hate-child).
In this way, Zelda's Divine Magic is hers by blood & possibly even soul. It isn't something that was bestowed upon her for being a good little worshiper. It's hers based on genetics & possibly also her soul. As such, her magic is more likely to unlock in a different way. Possibly on a more natural level or even with a sort of emotional catalyst, which Link became for her canonically.
In this way, I think that she had all the necessary tools to unlock her powers on her own & that Hylia wasn't necessarily keeping anything from her. And, in fact, Hylia's aid likely was never needed to begin with.
Hell, if all Zeldas are actually Hylia's reincarnation, then the actual Hylia likely isn't even there in the way that Hyruleans likely think she is. The Goddess Statues more than likely being inhabited by Hylia's bunshin. Which is a sort of ability that Japanese deities have to split themselves up into regional rulers of sort & act on the source god's behalf.
Ergo, if Hylia is being reincarnated in the same way that Link is, then the "Hylias" possessing the statues are not actually her & most likely don't have her full power. Merely acting as guardians of Hyrule & guides for the Hero.
At the same time, a lot of people seem to be under the impression that if gods are real, then they should just make everything better, but all that would do is make people reliant on them to an unhealthy degree. Like, it's one thing to ask for help when you need it, it's another to just not be able to do things on your own. We also don't really know the rules involving interference in mortal lives. There could easily be a very strict protocol in place with dire consequences if it's breached.
Anyway, more than anything, I think 1 issue is that Zelda, & in fact everyone else, expected Hylia to just give Zelda her powers when she already had them. Like, yes, Zelda was working hard to unlock her powers. Breaking her back & probably getting herself sick doing so, but that doesn't negate the fact that said work seemed to almost entirely rely on praying & asking for help from the goddess.
In a lot of ways, I think she would've unlocked her magic more easily if she'd gone about it as if it were any other form of magic. Specifically, the way a Sorcerer would.
However, it's also possible that if her magic is also based partially on faith, then while it may be in a similar way to that of a Cleric, I don't believe it to be altogether the same. Which could, in itself, be the reason she was having so much trouble. What I mean is that she, just as a person, is much more cerebral, secular, & scientifically-minded than any of the other princesses that we've seen so far.
That isn't to say that these are bad things as they make her who she is. A very bright, intelligent, inquisitive, compassionate person.
More so, this issue is likely a result of one possible side-effect of these qualities. In much a similar way to how being hardworking & determined can result in someone being stubborn or hard-headed. Or how honesty, having both feet on the ground, & having a firm grasp on reality can result in bluntness, sometimes to the point of seeming insensitive of other's feelings & perspectives. Or any number of things.
Zelda, just as an individual, needs to know & understand things as most with a scientific mind do (I tend to be very logic & rule-oriented, personally). And the thing is that, a really big part of faith is being able to let go of that need to know why or how, which I think that this particular Zelda would have difficulties with.
At the same time, I don't think that the faith she needs has much to do with faith in Hylia per se, nor even in her own destiny, as like I said before, Zelda's magic isn't on loan the way a Cleric's generally is. Yes, it originally came from Hylia, but that's because she is Hylia's descendant. More so, it's possible that what she needed, at least in part, was faith in herself.
I see Zelda as having lost a lot of confidence in herself due to her own perceived repeated failures. Which ends up resulting in her, essentially, getting in her own way.
In my mind, when Link was about to die, she suddenly didn't have time to doubt herself anymore, so when adding this fact to him acting as a sort of emotional catalyst for her, it caused a bit of an explosion of Divine Magic.
As for why she didn't do this in reaction to her father? To put it frankly, she simply wasn't there to see it & thus didn't experience the same immediate urgency that she did with Link as she was literally right there for that. In fact, I can almost guarantee that had she been there when her father was about to be killed, then she absolutely would've activated her magic in order to save him just like she did canonically with Link.
---
It's also possible that motivation could've played a role.
---
Edit: Something I came across a while ago that might also have contributed to her problems.
@skyloftian-nutcase - "This Zelda wants for the pieces to just fit but she can't figure it out, and instead of doing some introspection she just continues to look for alternatives. When she does do introspection, it's just to ask why she's defective. Things just need to make sense. I feel like an attitude like this implies that 1, Zelda has no instructor and therefore never learned how to learn, and 2, that implies that everything else she's good at has come naturally to her, such as technology. This girl is a scientist! Who has not learned the scientific method! Though she does try experiments, as poor Link can attest. "
They bring up a very good point! It's very possible that this may well be the case!
I recommend reading the whole post. There's def some good insights.

The Golden Goddesses
The nature of the Golden Goddess remains mostly unknown. For this AU, however, I wanted to clear up just a little bit. Functionally, they will be very similar to the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece (in the way that sometimes they just do things because they feel like it and other times their actions will actually be for a grander impact on the world). I'll be covering their "personalities", their actions, the nature of their existence, and designs. Most of these are headcanons, but strongly based off of canon implications. Expand for more.
Tumblr media
The Creators of the Triforce
Because they no longer have the presence of the Goddess of Light & Time, Hylia, they have very limited influence over the flow of time (Nayru being the only one who can still do anything close to manipulating it). The three of them can witness the split of timelines and entire other realms and universes of Hyrule, but they can only interfere within their own powers. Not even they can prevent an artifact of Hylia's (such as the Ocarina of Time or Gate of Time) or Hylia herself from altering time. They have to work around it. They can, however, go back and "replay" hundreds of years if they so wish to witness events and try to learn from them and gain a deeper understanding of the mortal worlds.
Because of the issue stated above, they do what they can to have an iron grip on fate and destiny in Hyrule. It is very rarely that the mere possibility of things being different from how they wish is achievable, to the extent that their intervention has prevented the timeline from branching out far too much. (Although, time has in fact branched out more than may be initially thought. Their interference in this AU is the straw that breaks the camel's back; that being, time and space themselves).
The Triforce is made from their very essence. Some say this essence is functionally the same as a mortal's blood. This is what allows Hylia's descendants and the goddesses' chosen to possess the Triforce within their body at certain points in the timelines. Each of them left their piece for their own reasons, but as a whole made the decision to create the relic regardless.
They operate with their minds very closely knit. They can telepathically speak to each other, sense the state of one another, and the like.
Being incapable of experiencing human emotions, the Goddesses often act in a neutral manner. They reflect almost solely the ideals they embody. This is what allows them to be flawed but still revered as "good" by the people of Hyrule despite their grand mistakes, which is why they are not at the ranks of Demise in myth.
After Demise's curse was put in place, they were unsure of what to do other than watch it play out. When Ganondorf split the Triforce in OoT and it went to the three respective holders, they recognized the perfect vessels for each of their pieces and goals; thus decided the fate of the cycle shall rest on the Triforce's chosen and repeatedly granted it to them across lifetimes.
Because of their usual inability to agree upon courses of action, they typically have time compromise and resort to extreme solutions (which range from creating the Light Spirits to creating the Great Sea). Despite this, the three of them prevent each other's destruction at their own hands.
Although they seem to have reoccurring symbols and associations as individuals, these will cross over often (for example, the Rito as evolved Zora in the Adult Timeline are associated with Nayru: but they are also associated with the earth and air). The information below is from a general sense.
Din, Goddess of Power
Appearance Description:
Din appears to be made from golden fire but emits a red aura. She has golden stones along her back.
"Personality" & Nature:
Din has the least understanding of living creatures and their emotions (out of the three). She acts entirely out of her own instinct and impulse, Nayru being the only thing she has close to self-control.
Notable legends and deeds:
She left the Triforce of Power to test humanity.
Din is attributed to having helped create the Goron tribe when she and Farore's work clashed as she carved mountains. In the case of this AU, she is also the one who allowed negative forces to be given a living form as demons (although Demise would go on to create monsters himself).
Believed in New Hyrule to be the one who warned OoT Zelda in the Adult Timeline of the formation of the Great Sea. Mostly because she was the one to jump on the idea when Nayru even vaguely suggested it.
(I am attributing most timeline inconsistencies to her boredom. I'll probably update this with more detail on that later).
Associated forces and elements:
Fire & Earth
She is associated with the boar, hence why Ganondorf becomes one when consumed by his lust for power.
She is often associated with mountains; particularly volcanoes. She is also associated with the colors orange and red.
Historians in TP's era believe that she may be, contrary to previous beliefs, the same Goddess of Sands worshipped by the Gerudo Tribe during the Era of the Hero of Time. She is often depicted with a snake in this era.
Her blessing increases the strength one might already have tenfold.
Most songs written in her honor use percussive instruments.
Nayru, Goddess of Wisdom
Appearance Description:
Nayru appears to be made of golden ice but emits a blue aura.
"Personality" & Nature:
Nayru values order and balance above all else, thinking of what can be interpreted as the "greater good" first and foremost. This leads to her being the most "sensible" of the trio, and being the one to usually exhibit "tough love." She is calm, collected, and blunt.
Notable legends and deeds:
She left the Triforce of Wisdom to guide humanity.
She is believed to be the creator of order, magic, space, and the concept of time; but her power over time itself is limited with Hylia gone.
SS Zelda has vague memories of Nayru. She believes Nayru may have been the one to create Hylia in the first place, knowing that certainly someone would try to abuse the Triforce's wish-grantint abilities. It was in need of a guardian, so she left one behind. However, Nayru was not one who understood the concept of life as Farore did; leaving Hylia to be somewhere between human and goddess, an incomplete and imperfect guardian. She gave Hylia most of her time-bound abilities, and a part of this never came back to her.
In the Era of Hylia, she gifted Hylia's people with some of her own power (considered magic at its purest base form) through the runes that would later create the ancient technology used in the war against Demise and the battle against the Calamity 20,000 years later. The people who harnessed it directly are those who became warriors chosen by Hylia, the Sheikah (although it was not Nayru, but Hylia who gave them the symbol of a tear alongside that of a watchful eye like Nayru presented them with).
She is believed to have given Farore the idea of the Parella, who would later evolve into the Zora.
Associated forces and elements:
Water & Ice
She is associated with owls, hence notable sages such as Rauru being associated with the wise creature.
Although Hylians in most eras have forgotten that Hylia is no longer an immortal being, Nayru is the closest Hyrule has to a replacement for the Goddess of Time; she was the closest of the three to Hylia. Similarly, she and Hylia are both often associated with love (Nayru with parental love, Hylia with romantic love) despite both seeming initially distant in the average eye.
She is commonly associated with magic itself, being the one who created it. She is associated with order, as well, being credited for its existence in Hyrule.
Her blessing allows the mindfulness and wisdom of an individual to have much greater potential, as well as gives the holder a deeper understanding of magic.
Most songs written in her honor include strings.
Farore, Goddess of Courage
Appearance Description:
Farore appears to be made of golden leaves scattering along the wind, with arms and a face appearing to be made out of golden branches and bark. However, she emits a green sort of aura.
"Personality" & Nature:
▪︎ Farore is the most merciful and "good" out of the three of them. She is also the most idealistic, valuing life and hope more than anything else (to such an extent that it may put her at odds with her sisters). She is, unsurprisingly, just as headstrong as Din.
Notable legends and deeds:
She left the Triforce of Courage as a hope for humanity.
She is often accredited for the existence of mystical creatures in Hyrule as well as humanity.
At the end of the initial three timelines, Farore supposedly created the Zonai to protect the threshold between the mortal realm's skies and the heavens (the Sacred Realm). They were given the Secret Stones and ability to draconify as a means of accomplishing their roles as something functionally similar to angels or other spirits in the franchise, but when the Zonai descended to what was once the Old Hyrule (declined by then after the curse went on for so long) they forgot of their origins and began to become closer and closer to lower mortals. The presence of dragon bones throughout Hyrule in BotW's era is because of many Zonai draconifying when they were not as spiritually "ready" enough to complete the ritual properly and ended up perishing soon after taking dragon form. This is what left behind only a few Zonai and a handful of stones.
Associated forces and elements:
Forests & Storms (winds and lightning)
She is associated with dragons, hence the Zonai's draconfication ability and worship of dragons.
She is often associated with life itself. Hence why beings close to the life of the earth, such as the Kokiri, are so close to her and much more aware of the spirits she put in place to defend life.
Her blessing gives a pure heart boundless courage and the ability to ward off evil.
Most songs written in her honor include wind instruments.
Their Role in the AU
Although they will not be directly seen often, space and time cross paths because Nayru reluctantly thins this fabric of the order she created via summoning the Mirror of Worlds across space and time. This is done once the trio decides to create the ultimate test to decide the fate of Demise's Curse with as little direct intervention as possible.
Farore and Din have argued since Demise's Curse was set. Din has wanted to destroy Hyrule (including the demons) to start over, if Hyrule is not strong enough to outlast the curse. Farore, on the other hand, wants to eradicate only what she deems as evil and set their chosen above all else. Nayru comes between them time and time again to prevent their clash from causing any destruction, leaving things mostly in the hands of mortals: only interfering in the way she deems fate must play out.
(Everything above is subject to change).
Note: Hylia will be receiving her own respective post. When completed, I will link it here.

What is your opinion of Skyward Sword Zelda (Sun) being Hylia to the later timelines?
i always see it more as like sun is a person whom hylia can channel herself through in a way? so shes like a vessel. less hylia herself, more of a snapshot of hylia. like hylia is a well and sun is a tap. if that makes sense idk
although i do think shes the closest to hylia of the zeldas. shes the most divine so to speak since shes the first mortal incarnation and not a descendant. i think shes able to sense the heros spirit and if she wanted, she could see and know whatever she wants about any of the chosen following her but she doesnt like to abuse her power.
sometimes when they ask a question about the greater good, a very goddess answer slips out and its obviously not *zeldas* answer but shes cognizant of it nonetheless
i also think sun would be pretty uncomfortable being revered. she probably just wants to be treated the way shes used to. she feels a lot of expectation on her when people appeal to her bc sun is only mortal and theres really only so much she can do. even sun appeals to hylia still, like the hylia beyond her mortality, for guidance.

I started a Zelda au that I called Zelda: Rebirtg back in 2011 when I was 13 after playing Skyward Sword.
The idea behind it was based off of the fact that The Master Sword and Fi specifically were made by Hylia.
I came up with a scenario in which Fi was actually a real person and a high ranking official of a group that helped guard and worship Hylia. She was told of Hylia’s plan to create The Master Sword to help the one with The Spirit of The Hero, which Hylia had started planning due to visions and conversations with The Goddesses about the impending doom to come. A vessel was needed that held the information of the surface and his quest and Hylia proposed that Fi could be the one to do it as she was one of Hylia’s most trusted servants. Fi readily accepted and was honored to be chosen, but Hylia didn’t tell her everything agreeing to this would entail.
The ceremony to imbue it with power and Fi’s consciousness was completed and from there Fi was reduced to an emotionless robotic like spirit who’s sole function was to serve and help The Hero, her humanity stifled and sealed away to allow for optimal functionality.
General outline below if you’re interested!
Eventually thousands of years later, Hyrule is somewhat in ruin. The power of The Goddesses has waned some. There was a Zelda who was born and didn’t acquire The Triforce of Wisdom. The biggest reason the royal family stayed in power with respect from the people was The Triforce acting as proof that they are the most fit as they were literally ordained by the gods. There was an upset to say the least and the faith in the royal family and by proxy the goddesses began to slip. No more Zelda’s or royal family members got any piece of the Triforce. It kind of disappeared, no one being deemed worthy to hold any of its pieces despite the supposed divine right and lineage spoken of in tales of old.
With the faith in The Godesses pretty much diminished and the concept of The Spirit of The Hero being a thing being lost for the most part, the energy surrounding The Master Sword is in a permanent state of slumber and as a result, registered that it has no purpose. Fi is no longer needed for anything, and she’s spat back out, mortal and flesh and able experience emotions again and be an active participant in life for the first time since she was merged with The Master Sword.
Anyway a lot of stuff happens, including Zelda being a bastard of the current Princess soon to be Queen (some of The Shiekah still work for The Royal Family but overall most of them have turned away due to the whole Triforce thing resulting in a lot of bad paranoid leaders who made lots of bad and paranoid rash choices and others were turned away by the royal family because of fear of them acting as puppet masters that regale the royals as figure heads. Lots of paranoia and fear from the royal family because of everything). Due to the lack of belief in legitimacy to rule by the people of the kingdom, if there’s a daughter as an heir, they have a different male from another kingdom marry and rule Hyrule because the same reasons it happens because of misogyny in our world. The Queen and one of the Royal Shiekah Guards (it’s a small group trusted by the royal family and they live and stay on the castle grounds so they can be monitored and ensure no chance of rebellion) had a bit of whirlwind romance and she became pregnant. She had the baby in secret with the royal physicians and others in the castle keeping it hush hush and handing it off to the extended family and group of the father, the elder of that group readily volunteering to take care of her. The baby is never to be discovered or taught her origins due to the general scandal of it all and the fear of attempts to take the throne that could come from her being a technical heir. The elder who takes care of her name is named Impa:)
She’s still a firm believer in Hylia and The Godesses, and she can tell there’s Something with this baby, hence her immediate volunteering of caring for her. Sure enough this Zelda has the Triforce of Wisdom, the first time a piece of the Triforce has been seen in over a millennia. She has a grand destiny to retake the throne and properly restore balance and unite the pieces of the Triforce together.
The main group of the AU are (besides Fi) Midna but she’s Gerudo and her and Fi fall in love. Link is there as a regular ass dude in the royal guard who mainly operates at one of the garrison outposts in the middle of Hyrule Field. It’s main focus is as a trade route in between and mail spot. Ganandorf is the heir to the throne of The Gerudo and is a Good Guy. Eventually when he, Link, and Zelda are further into their adventure together and the Triforce has been properly awakened he struggles with corruption and shit because of Demise’s curse but because of Love and Friendship he says fuck you and is able to break the curse of all of them being destined to fight for all of eternity. He’s filled with uncertainty and fear throughout the journey because as they’ve uncovered more of the story of the birth of the Triforce and all that jazz (it’s been long forgotten to the general public now, hidden in old temple ruins and dead areas that used to be sacred. They’re still watched over by the designated spirits of the sages as old, but they haven’t been visited in a long time now) he had to learn about the previous holders of the Triforce of Power and Demise, and he fears his fate. He overcomes it though. Zelda returns to fight the fuckhead her birth mom married (he sucks big time) and take back the throne and rebuild Hyrule to its former glory. Link struggled with self worth and the constant need to try and prove himself because he was never the best soldier and tried to mask it with being overconfident and snarky as a defense mechanism. Learning to accept who he is and what his strengths are instead of trying to be someone he isn’t allows him to become the hero he’s supposed to be due to facing down those fears. He also loses an eye during the adventure and learns to adapt and relearns what he needs to and becomes an actually confident hero, not one who pretends to be confident.
What one of pics above is showing is part of Fi’s arc, which is accepting the horrors she’s lived through, being forced to be a dedicated servant who puts Hylia and The Will of The Goddesses above all else, and then while The Master Sword an emotionless constant servant with her emotions and personality locked away, not having informed consent due to Hylia withholding information that that would be the case. She gets to confront her eventually in the story when The Group finally reaches the first goddess spring and the temple of Hylia from the days of old, where Hylia’s spirit chooses to preside if she’s visiting the mortal realm. Fi did everything she could to make this place the last area they visited and she kept her status a secret. The others thought it was odd she had such potent magic (magic users are rare now as it’s tied to The Goddesses and the magic the triforce once granted the land. Some still exist but it’s a very small number and it’s much more controlled magic that often needs boosts from potions and runes. Fi doesn’t need any of that though. She’s a powerhouse, and she helps train Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf throughout their journey since she knows all the secrets of what’s truly needed to unlock the powers the triforce holds. Zelda was trained in the basic exercises that would help her when she awakened her power, but Impa didn’t tell her that’s what it was for while raising her. Also trained her in martial arts since she was Shiekah and that’s tradition as well as archery) and that she seemed to know more than she let on, but they didn’t want to push her.
Midna’s arc is basically a mirror of Link’s, considered the golden child of sorts held to a high standard because of her skills and abilities and she is very rigid and reserved because of the pressure and lecturing. She beings to loosen up and learn to enjoy life, and this is also a big part of her friendship and eventual relationship with Fi, who’s acting bold and brash and doing her best to be a charismatic life of the party type to cope with thousands of years of having that locked away and not wanting to process or deal with the trauma of that. She also masks her insecurities and fears through a loud personality similar to Link. Midna and Fi learn to explore their emotions and complicated feelings about life and expectations (before Fi because The Master Sword, she was also the golden child of sorts) together.
During The Big Fight at the end, done primarily by Zelda but with Link and Ganondorf acting as support, The Master Sword had been slowly dwindling in power despite the triforce being awakened over the journey and the sages being properly revived and connected to their land and temples and dulling as time went on through their adventure after its retrieval. Fi kept her connection to it a secret from everyone for a while but eventually things boiled over and she broke down, telling them everything. It’s at its end unless she merges with it again since she’s essentially apart of its key power source because of how it was created. She tearfully consents before the fight to retake her place as the soul of the sword, this time with full knowledge of what she’s agreeing to. Everyone is heart broken and Midna and her have basically the type of goodbye exchange Tidus and Yuna have at the end of ffx. She merges with the sword, disappearing, the sword igniting with magic and power. The big fight then happens.
Afterwards, when it’s all over and the bad dude is defeated, The Master Sword is returned to its pedestal in The Temple of Hylia. Everyone solemnly seals it away, only for Fi to materialize and tumble out. Everyone is confused as shit, especially Fi. Hylia appears one last time, apologizing and saying that now that the Triforce is unified again she was able to conjure all her magic and essentially separate the master swords power source from Fi. Fi is able to life her life at long last. Everyone is pumped, Midna and her are already kissing.
In the end the Triforce is reignited and whole for the first time in millennia and for the first time ever, in sync, the cycle the 3 holders were doomed to by Demise at the end of Skyward Sword broken.
They all stay friends, Fi and Midna eventually getting married. Fi will act as a counselor to Zelda because of her immense knowledge. She also has a quick wit and loves to perform just like she did in the past too (hence Fi’s in game ability to dance and sing) but instead of having to perform more rigid ritual songs and dances like she used to during her Old Life, she’s free to go all out now and enjoy other types of performances too. Midna acts as an ambassador and is head of the royal guard for the Gerudo. Link becomes a guard for the castle (he doesn’t want to be top of the chain of command but he is given proper credit and praise and respect. He’s finally at peace knowing his worth amd doesn’t feel the need to prove himself to everyone anymore and also doesn’t wanna deal with high ranking stress stuff more than he can help after everything lol ) and he and Ganondorf start dating (there’s a growing romance and tension slowburn for them throughout this thing), Ganondorf will eventually inherit the throne when his mom chooses to retire. Zelda returns the kingdom to glory.

Returning to like the rckin’ topic of Demise and Ganondorf’s connection, I honestly look at it as less of a reincarnation or Demise spawned Ganondorf situation and more like this singular man with only hatred, ambition, and willpower is just as destructive than this literal natural disaster.
Like Demise, in-spite of his greed, is not mortal in the slightest and the way they talk about how he came to be makes him out to be the this entity native to the depths of Hyrule. A being that just destroys because it’s in his nature in a literal sense. He wasn’t cursed or molded into this, he was “born” this way from the get-go, a literal approaching storm.
Meanwhile Ganondorf is consistently molded into the man we know him as due to his privileged position and harsh environment (rich poor kid status), thus his ambition and worship of power. He’s always is, in some capacity a boy who grows up to be a king who has the destructive capacity of a hurricane or earthquake, yet craves more.
Oh yeah, there is no doubt that Ganondorf is uniquely talented in that sense. Mastery of weapons and magical prowess seem second nature to him. He has the capacity to wield divine power to its full potential and cause as much damage as Demise would without his physical form breaking down. He is, as Demise would say, a paragon of his kind. However, I wouldn't be too sure that Demise's entire purpose is to destroy. I think it is in his nature to believe that might makes right, and that is possibly because of the way his demon tribe survived beneath the ground, fighting for their right to survive. He came to the surface not necessarily seeking its destruction, but seeking the Triforce and dominion over the surface. He thought that Hylia protecting those who could do no better but beg for her protection were pathetic and deserved to die. He even seemed to admire Hylia for her beauty and power, and loathed her for how she used it. So is he destructive by nature? Maybe, but I don't think he destroys things for the sake of destroying them if you get what I mean. However, I would agree that he seems to enshrine concepts such as the powerful are meant to rule, and that the weak deserve to perish, a deity that represents these concepts. Hylia is similar in this sense; she enshrines the concepts of light and peace etc etc but she does have purpose behind it, and even uses underhanded methods to see her goals through. It's why I, and I always come back to this, take issue with the argument of Ganondorf being hatred incarnate which gives him blanket permission to be an asshole with little to no provocation. Even Demise had purpose, and he does not play by the rules of mortals. In a mortal vessel, there are other factors that contribute to creating a Demon King out of a man. Ganondorf has inherent talent, and the immense emotional capacity to turn his hatred, jealousy and envy into something almost insurmountable, but mortals do not feel that sort of intensity without a trigger. This is compounded by the fact that Ganondorf never seeks godhood as a goal; it is always about dominion over Hyrule and his enemies using the power of gods. For all his gloating and grandstanding about fate and divinity, his desires are inherently human, so to tell me he is Like That because Hatred Incarnate is asking me to suspend my belief way too much imo.

:3cc Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love❤
<3 <3 <3 Thank you Rainbow! (I'm shameless and am going to ramble about all of them)
Responsible Practices in Engineering (a Vessel): Hollow Knight fluffy, (occasionally angsty) pre-canon AU where the Pale King brings home four vessels instead of one! (PK tries to continue with the Hollow Knight plan but is not at all prepared for the sheer chaos that four toddler godlings and one mischievous spider-wyrm can cause.)
Hornet Hunts a Vessel: spinoff fluffy one-shot of RPIEAV AU. Little Hornet chases Greenpath Vessel through the White Palace.
Little Vessel Background Shenanigans: Drabble collection set in RPEIAV AU. Fluffy slice-of-life shenanigans that don't fit in the main story.
Forging a God: Legend of Zelda one-shot. My first fanfic! I’m really proud of this one because it’s the first time I successfully wrote horror (at least. it's supposed to be...)
The summary is "When the Goddess Hylia fell in love with a mortal, and what she did to keep him." After all, what’s the destruction of a kingdom compared to the love of a goddess? What’s a few lifetimes of torment to someone who’s immortal? And, Link is utterly silent in this.
Thank you for the ask~

Hylia’s First Oracle/Incarnation
When I write Hylia, I like to have her possess the bodies of her oracles as vessels and work beside them or take over for them. Hylia is a being of ethereal energy who cannot take on her own mortal form. In fact, she never ever reincarnated as one even in the Zelda family bloodline! SS Zelda herself was an oracle led on by Hylia to believe she’s a reincarnation and her time with the girl ended up blessing her bloodline.

✰ Summary:
He was the bearer of the greatest curse in history. He was a monster. He was possessed by the very incarnation of an ancient evil. She was the Goddess in the form of a mortal, reborn countless times. And then, there was the Third.
The three of them, they were bound together forever. The Hero, The Evil King, The Light Princess. Not always in that order, in the correct place or time.
Snapshots of their lives and journeys leading up to the final confrontation with destiny. Snapshots of the never-ending quest to stop the greatest evil-- by all of them. For all of them.
(Or: Demise without a vessel would spell disaster. Hylia makes a desperate bid to contain him, but the cycle has to play out by a predestined set of rules. They really screwed something up severely this time.)
✰ Word Count: 16,090
✰ Rating: T (Potentially triggering, please mind the additional tags on this one!)
✰ Pairing: None (gen)
I wanted to try and post a few fics before starting NaNoWriMo to warm up for it, so I wrote this in a stream of consciousness in two days. The premise is kind of weird, but I hope you guys enjoy! ^^

Thinking about The Original Attempted Calamity Hero and Ganondorf again and the implications of the Calamity even existing in the first place.
(Warning, this post has spoilers for basically all of the Zelda franchise and is pretty long, if there's a game or thing you did not read but would like to like the manga then please turn back, or stick around if you don't care lol)
I know there's a lot of theories about him floating around, that either he was half Gerudo, part of the Zonai tribe or at least half Zonai and Zonai raised or even Ganon himself because for some reason something might have happened to that era's Link, but that's a fairy better released at another day. But can y'all imagine being the guy back then? I don't think we discuss this enough to be honest.
So far, almost all of Ganon's incarnations have been at least somewhat mortal before BOTW, with the exception of obviously Demise who was a deity, and the whole thing with the Four Swords Adventures portion of the timeline that kind of itches at me that it has time travel involved though that's yet another fairy, but almost every single one of them started as a human even if they do get more and more animalistic over time. What with Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker's Ganondorf being by far the most human, but during the second part of Ocarina of Time and later on Twilight Princess they descend into Beast Form, which is a power boost yes but definitely a downgrade as it doesn't leave him as sane or cognitive, given that at the end of Twilight Princess Ganon returns to human form to fight Link rather than remain in that form. It's telling that he much prefers being human to being a feral boar.
Then we have OG Zelda's Ganon, the general downfall timeline Ganon that is, from A Link to The Past to Oracle of Seasons/Ages to A Link Between Worlds to the very first Legend of Zelda and Link's Adventure, it's clear that Ganon has fully descended into a feral state and that whatever bit of humanity there and cognition as a result was, he very rarely talks in LTTP, in a LBTW he's at his most coherent when Yuga fuses with him, by the OG Zelda he doesn't speak at all and twice in that time frame he had to be revived rather than come back on his own like his more human like iterations can if they wait and chill for a couple hundred years. He's basically no more than a feral animal, he isn't interested in ruling Hyrule, he's very darn interested in destroying the hero and making Hylia herself suffer and definitely doesn't care about burning Hyrule to the ground and killing anyone in his path if that does the trick, whatever sanity there was is too far gone.
Stick with me here, I'll get to the point.
It's an interesting descent and detail to pivot and follow after. It's obviously a result of Demise's corrupting divine fury and curse, you know what's technically a similar case? Zelda.
I think we can all agree that Zelda isn't Hylia, she's Hylia brought to earth or at the very least her vessel if we go by Breath of the Wild, because Zelda praying for herself wouldn't make any logical sense otherwise even if by order of her father, with no memories or rememberance of what she was, just that she is the holder of Hylia's divine power and her will and responsibility to protect the people and specially the Triforce/Light Force the Original Three left behind. No Cost Too Great you could say in the words of the Pale King from Hollow Knight, the only time she remembers in full is in Skyward Sword, it's confirmed that Zelda gets Hylia's knowledge and maybe even her memories after praying in the springs and it doesn't matter if she's just a vessel to her power or a reincarnation or if this is a Cú Chulainn situation where she is Hylia yet isn't (Schrodinger's Deity?), and her behavior shifts a bit then, not by much but it's definitely noticeable if you look at the text.
What if it's a similar case for Ganon? Zelda is what you get when you don't have the memories, when you take something barely comprehensible with a though process you can't even begin to understand with an intense capability for emotion that's practically suffocating and compress it into a mortal form to start again as a blank slate and it mostly remains that way. Ganon is what you get when the memories slowly seep back in as well as the intense, overwhelming, all consuming divine rage and fury and wish for vengeance seeps into a mortal vessel that very obviously can't fully hold it, couple that with Demise's curse and you have a cocktail for disaster, Ganon was doomed from the start just by being Demise's vessel, man never stood a chance. Though there's no way to say wether he fought against the influence or not, that's something we are unlikely to ever know since we only play and read from Link's and Zelda's perspective.
The Calamity and Malice is the result of when that divine fury breaks out, when there's a break in the already spilling over and cracked goblet. But it couldn't have broken on it's own you know? We see that cursed enemies were always a thing in Zelda games and as far back in the timeline as Skyward Sword it already existed, remember that corrupting and harmful 'water' at the Ancient Cistern's basement? The cursed enemies and dark crystals there? Possibly a leftover of Demise's power after the original break through the surface as seen in the First Hero's manga, a prototype of Malice, hence why Ghirahim was sniffing around there for a way to bring him back, it's the only other place in the franchise after BOTW we see a prominent number of cursed enemies, and the Malice is clearly a thing that can learn and evolve, it can possess enemies and technology, it can revive the dead and control it and possess people too and create beings from it (remember the Phantom Ganon in OOT and PH guys), but it's not a discernible pattern, we didn't know much about it at all until recently and that right there? Is some terrifying lovecraftian/ancient mythology thing.
Because we clearly see it puppeteering scattered pieces of Sheikah Tech in the form of the Blights, possessing the Divine Beasts and the Calamity Ganon form in BOTW, Tears of the Kingdom shows us how Ganondorf's corpse is still around and clearly was revived, like a lich being corrupted from it's own energy. It's not Ganondorf doing anything anymore, it's the curse, it's Demise's Will, and as his corpse has not fully perished yet it likely is but a puppet to it.
It was not a pattern anyone could have predicted much less the hero back then, would he and his Zelda have an inkling about the pattern of Ganondorf always reincarnating and maybe have tried to do something about it early? Absolutely, heck maybe Ganondorf was even sane enough to fight back and try to go off script. Would they have predicted that some kind of freaky kill switch would actívate to keep his reanimated corpse going only powered by the original curse Demise set up, which is basically fueled by pure divine will for vengeance on the one with the spirit of the hero who bested him not once but twice and the goddess that twarthed him at every turn from throwing that little green glad bastard at him with a sacred sword to seal him to basically sabotaging the Triforce so divine beings cannot use it and fury so strong it transcends time and space if we count games like Cadance of Hyrule and Hyrule Warriors (which we are doing here by the way) being a thing and presumably happening in different worlds? Absolutely not.
Honestly I see people compare BOTW and AOC Link to the guy back then and how they should have done better in game and that BOTW Link failed not living up to the standard he set up and how he stopped talking under the pressure and I'm just, y'all ever pause and think he wasn't anymore prepared than you people? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong due to sleep deprivation, I haven't slept well in months and woke up in a cold sweat at 3am to start writing this down but just- He didn't have Shrines to prepare him, he didn't have the Divine Beasts back then to weaken the Calamity before they were built by the Sheikah with presumably Zonai aid (and oh boy to I have thoughts and headcanons on that) and that would have taken time, it was basically just him, Zelda, the other races and Fi as the Master Sword (or heck even without her, we all know it always takes any Link time to get the Master Sword in the games, he likely didn't pull her out straight away like how presumably BOTW and AOC Link did) holding the fort against Malice enhanced monsters and likely revived undead because we know even while sane the previous Ganon's were definitely not above doing that.
So it was most likely a Phyrric Victory, the few times we hear about things that happened to previous heroes, is that we either don't know what happened to them at the end of the story (which is extremely concerning if you ask me because something should have been recorded right? They should have at least recorded how Zelda got her powers to give other Zelda's a better point of reference that just stay in a spring and pray to yourself apparently) Or that they just straight up died (The Hero's Shade being OOT Link, The First Hero being left behind rather than being able to ascend with the other humans to Skyloft, OG Zelda's previous Link most likely being killed in an attempt by Ganon's cult to revive him or to seal him away again), and we don't hear what happened to him or Zelda or the original Champions. History is written by the victors after all, Hylian history has a tendency of erasing details, take from that what you will.
TL;Dr My headcanon is that him and his Zelda were unwittingly cataclysms to the Calamity being unleashed in the first place, and that's why we don't hear much about what happened to them and, since 10000 years have passed there was likely a lot of time for erasure and cover up to happen by the crown. And that the man himself would be very proud of his descendants for being able to deal with at least part of the problem he unintentionally caused and surviving even with worse odds in spite of being better prepared unlike him who most likely died even if BOTW Link and AOC Link should get at least one sucker punch in if they're told that wasn't even the original goods they thought they dealt with as a treat if we go the LU route, in this essay I will-

I love Time’s Origin story. There are some questions that I want to ask.
1) Does Time have the ability to see alternate timelines?
For example: What would happen if Twi didn't exist?
2) I guess Time doesn't have a good relationship with Hylia. Would it change his views toward Zelda?
I am sorry if they are weird questions.
I love your cryptic au. Expect more questions from me xD I hope you don't mind it.
I’m glad you enjoyed his story haha! I’m happy to answer your questions!
1.) Yes, Time can see and interact with all possible timelines! Not just the three that we know. Literally anything. A timeline where Two was never born? A timeline where Link never fused with Aepon and became Sky? A timeline where Legend, Ravio, Wind, and Aryll were not victims of war? He could see it all if he wanted to. He could switch to a more favorable timeline if things go bad. Wars’ sword was broken? Hyrule fell in battle? He can simply switch over to an alternate timeline where it didn’t happen.
He doesn’t do that unless it’s life or death, like I said, since it just jumbles things up more and it’s his responsibility to keep everything in order. Every time he messes with the streams, they split even more, hundreds of new outcomes stemming from his single action. They get all tangled and- well, he’s disobeyed Nayru’s laws enough, don’t you think?
2.) Time doesn’t have a good relationship with Hylia, but he doesn’t take that out on Zelda. (I don’t know which Zelda you’re referring to, but the only one who’s actually Hylia is Sun. The others are merely descendants). Hylia has no association with Lullaby so Time doesn’t hold anything against her. For Sun? It’s a bit more complicated.
I’ve always held to the thought that Hylia may be Sun, but Sun isn’t Hylia. She lived her entire life as a mortal with no knowledge of the power that used her body as a vessel. She’s her own person, she had her own thoughts and feelings and personality outside of Hylia’s influence. She is Zelda first. Sky knows that. And Time… well, he knows Hylia. And Sun? Definitely isn’t her.

the legend of zelda really tricked child-me into thinking i was going on some grand adventure to save the world, and then as adult me i am getting absolutely bitch slapped with the melancholy and sadness that is this game series. I learned that Child Link from Ocarina of Time was sent back to his original timeline so he could be a kid, but he is still burdened with the events of his adventure. The events of which never happen in his timeline, and that no one else but Navi (who is dead) can remember. This tortures him so much that he straight up becomes a haunted spirit in Twilight Princess.
it got me thinking about (what I thought was) the fan interpretation of the burden of destiny. A lot of the Zelda games post Ocarina talk about being "chosen" by destiny. In Skyward Sword they straight up tell you that Link and Zelda were chosen by the goddess Hylia. Zelda is to become her mortal vessel and Link is expected to protect the world, forever, from the dark evil. They didn't choose this, they were CHOSEN, and their descendants will FOREVER be CHOSEN for this role, regardless of how good it is for them as individuals or what it means for them once the adventure is done.
Fuckin. Even in Breath of the Wild, Link is just Some Guy. Everyone is super angry that Some Guy is meant to be the Hero. Do you think Link likes that? Do you think he LIKES being shit on and burdened with all this responsibility, when Zelda is right there and trying her best and still failing to do what she thinks is right?
Hylia has her eye on you, Link. And I'm sorry it had to be you.

I have a lot of thoughts and I'm writing them down here so they aren't as abstract. And so that I don't spam my best friend with it. Input would be...appreciated but it isn't necessary
Every couple of months I come back to this thought. "Wow, your MC is a Mary Sue and you're a horrible writer". No one has actually said this to me, but ✨anxiety✨ right?
And I'm trying to convince myself that Morgan ISN'T a perfect being with no problems ever, but it's hard...
I have a couple reasons to think that Morgan would qualify as a Mary Sue. First, she's strong physically and magically, and it seems pretty effortless. Second, she doesn't have a whole lot of negative personality traits. And also there's the whole "tragic backstory for the sake of having a tragic backstory" and "ohh she's the only person with her magic in her whole country boohoo" things.
On the other hand, while she has a lot of skills, she DID work for them all. Like, she's buff because she's had years of training and physical labor. She was born with a lot of magic (for...Mary Sue ish reasons) but she still spent a large chunk of her childhood learning how to use it...though she was largely self taught because of the whole "only one like her" thing.
And her character flaws tend to be good traits flipped on their head. She's compassionate and selfless, which leads to her overextending herself and thinking too little of her own needs, rarely asking for help or admitting something is wrong because she doesn't want to be a burden. She's brave and confident, but also reckless. She's loyal, but sometimes to the point of excessive confrontation against those who wronged a loved one, or lets things go when she shouldn't. She's quick tempered. She holds grudges. She's uncommunicative with certain people because she's afraid of making him feel bad.
She might have a sad backstory, parts of which she feels guilty for, but that has led to some of her flaws and mental health issues. To quote someone on Reddit discussing Korra (who was a model for Morgan), "I don't think anyone with PTSD can be a Mary Sue". But idk...
Another Mary Sue thing about her is that she's the only water magician born for 200 years in her country, which is...pretty inexcusable from a "Mary Sue checklist" point of view. The idea was that Galbradan magic is a fairly recessive gene so it's not common at all anymore. Morgan had magic because her non-Galbradan mother's more dominant magic gene passed to her. More a stroke of luck than anything. A stroke of luck that happened to make her a curiosity in Galbrada; a novelty to be observed by priests and anthropologists.
One of the biggest problems comes from a string of decisions made over the last two years that led to Morgan being closely connected with a Galbradan goddess, kinda like the Patron Arcana thing, but it led to her becoming...sort of the Zelda to her goddess's Hylia, if that makes any sense. A vessel for the goddess's power, a mortal mirror image of her. Morgan doesn't WANT to be the Second Coming, she didn't ask for it and she HATES that a group of priests see her as such, but that doesn't mean that I DIDN'T write her like this. I knowingly CHOSE that for her. I gave her a crap ton of magic and specialized powers that she shouldn't have, but that I thought would be interesting and never thought to balance out.
So...I guess she DOES have character flaws, and she isn't just effortlessly good at everything, but there's still the whole "supernaturally gifted" and "handmaid of the goddess" things...which serve very little story purpose and only exist because I thought "hey wouldn't that be cool"... Yes, she has an ongoing identity crisis over several things and feels immensely pressured by everything, to the point of almost breaking down, but does that REALLY make her exempt from still being a mostly-perfect, universally beloved in-universe (I've only written like one person that genuinely hates her) character? Like, is she still just a "world revolves around her and only her" little Barbie doll that can do nothing wrong? I can't help but feel like she is...

So, I have a million questions I want to ask you about deity stuff, but since apparently I can’t WORD this week, I’ll just ask you what comes to mind since I’m writing a fic with an adjacent question at its core, and I love so many of your stories and insights.
What do you think would make Sky completely lose faith in Hylia? How would he respond, in your opinion?
what a question mark
i got this though, had to hop back on my compooter for this one tho get that full keyboard swagggg
OK throughout many of the zelda games, its demonstrated that good and evil is a conscious choice and effort. some of them explore the characters' boundaries with these choices, others explore the idea of corruptive forces as a natural illness.
and some people might say "well the gods are exempt" except the gods are not! demise and hylia have agency. they make plans and active choices and sacrifices in order to get what they want in whatever fashion that is. even in twilight princess the idea that ganon receives the triforce of power is a cruel joke from the gods
often explored in zelda is this idea of balance. the triforce came from three goddesses and yet we routinely see power be abused or the wielder of power destined to do evil. would this then not mean that the goddesses are also weighing their own virtues against one another in an effort to maintain a harmonious balance of good and evil
i think at its core, the zelda series (perhaps due to OoT having its own overarching religious meta regarding japanese buddhism) explores this notion of an ever present balancing act of good/evil, light/dark, divine/mortal and further that one is necessary for the other
SO what would make sky, a mortal, turn his back on hylia, the divine?
i think hylia actively making a choice of cruelty even for the sake of "the greater good". and maybe further, bc sky is so baked into it from the start, it takes him a while to realize hes been utilized as a pawn to exact some notion of cruel fate on someone else
it could be something dramatic like hylia calling for the death of maybe another mortal, but i think it could even be something which speaks to skys protectiveness. what if zelda was slowly unravelling in a constant tug of war between her own mortality and being a divine vessel? sky watches the woman he loves slowly lose touch with her people but have no company in her righteousness either. if zelda has prophetic dreams, what if she sees her loved ones die? what if sky sees them too? what if sky pleads to hylia to just please show zelda a little bit of mercy and give her some peace and hylia refuses bc thats what zelda was born for
or even within the realm of the heros curse, sky realizing that the curse was never *his* fault the way hes felt, but the result of a struggle between greater powers that he had to intervene in bc hylia *lost*
i dont think sky is entitled in any way, but imagine him sacrificing what remains of his childhood, giving up his own peace and serenity, seeing the ugliness in the world, and hylia cant do him or zelda this *one* favor and let her get a good nights rest or comfort him when he sees the heroes who come after
and then as that begins to snowball, sky slowly dwelling on this idea that he has no choice and never did. groose changes of his own volition. groose morphs from a bully into one of links closest friends (or lovers depending on the hc). groose makes an active decision to become a better person and write his own destiny by entangling himself with zelda and links. zelda and link never had the luxury of choice to begin with. they are divine objects more or less.
link gets to see other skyloftians build lives their way. they pursue their passions and make a place in the world through active self exploration but links fate was written for him before he was even born
and hylias not perfect otw demise would have never needed to be resealed right? he wouldve been destroyed
i think it would be a slow unraveling that starts with just a thread. one bad dream too many, one out of touch remark, one instance of zelda pulling away and i think it unrolls into the rest of this insanity and ultimately leads to an identity crisis
bc perhaps link *does* turn his back on hylia but is that really a choice he has? what happens when hylia needs her chosen hero again? will he be forced to act or simply compelled bc if he doesnt he'll lose everyone and everything?
in a way, that choice gives link an opportunity to exact cruelty himself bc hylia needs him more than he needs her
as for his response to the crisis, i think he would actually grieve. hylia is a lot closer to skyloftians than other instances of hylians. i think link would go through the 5 stages
denying that hylia could ever be capable of doing wrong or making a mistake
angry that it falls on him, angrier that it falls on zelda
bargaining for some kind of answer or response
depressed over his own lack of agency
acceptance that he can still make his own path regardless of faith or not
and i think in the end link would end up in a sort of easy reverence of hylia. not necessarily blind worship of her as maybe he did previously, but a deeper understanding of the worlds natural current. i think ultimately it brings him peace to know that his life *does* mean something, that hes done something worthwhile, and i think he develops his own compass out of it
after all is said in done, i think he relies on hylia and a divine structure less and looks inward for reflections and instincts. to that end, i think he mostly gives up on the hero thing and is determined to form his own identity. hero is not synonymous with good person and i think at his core, link just wants to be a good person and he realizes he can do that without hylias guidance
so i guess the loss of faith isnt a total loss of faith. he would still have faith in hylia to some degree that things will work out but i do think he loses faith in hylias capability
ANYWAY sorry this was so long, hopefully it makes sense lmao
we could get further into legacy too with link realizing that just bc hylia and himself cant be separated, she has nothing on his legacy through say his children or the way the kingdom gets built

context: writing a thing based on the weekly prompt from the zelink community discord server for "grace." i struggle with single-word prompts, so this one is also inspired by the end of shakespeare's sonnet 28. this lil thing specifically is about botw zelda's century-long battle with the calamity.
During her time as the Bright Goddess’s vessel, Zelda came to understand that time is impossibly strange.
It must have been the war inside of her, the part that is Hylian versus the soul that is Hylia. A century is a long time to a Hylian, but it spans the blink of an eye to a goddess. And Zelda is both; divinity coursing through her mortal veins, and mortal love warming her divine heart. A demigoddess in her own right, like her mother and grandmother and so on before her.
Some decades felt like millennia—and don’t get her started on feeling. Zelda’s body changed into light, faded into the stardust that Farore crafted her out of, and became the Calamity’s prison. She could not feel so much as she could sense, and the first decades were torture on her newly divine sensibilies. She could feel the life of her kingdom dwindling—the first few days were like severe stabs in the gut with knives twisted for good measure. Huge amounts killed in hours. Lives snuffed out in seconds.
The fall of the Citadel in particular left Zelda anguished for weeks.
