Hiiiii. I saw your responses on another users asks about Lalaloopsy lore and would LOVE to talk Lalaloopsies with you. Please info dump to me 🙏
I want to hear it all (if that’s okay with you obvi)
On it! Under a cut cuz it's so long
So Lalaloopsy was originally created in about 2009 as Bitty Buttons, but the same had some copyright disputes so it was changed about about 12 dolls? The original 8 and the four succeeding them have very rare versions with this packaging.
Dolls were released in waves of about eight every season or so, outside of limited editions and such.
Initially, the canon was limited to the descriptions on the backs of the boxes, some books, and a few web and DS games, before the first animated universe came about, consisting of web shorts and a movie.
Eventually Nick Jr. picked up the franchise for six more movies, more shorts, and a two season TV series. Like all of the VAs for the franchise were nobodies except in the Lalaloopsy Girls movie for some reason.
Then the Nick show caused a lawsuit since the company behind Lalaloopsy (MGA) didn't pay as much for it as they said it would, which I assume didn't help with the steady decline of the brand (cheaper dolls, less creative ideas, etc), before Netflix picked it up for a show.
The Netflix show sorta bombed, they only made five dolls and some minis and I don't think anyone really cared outside of existing fans, a lot of which were turned off by the more realistic direction taken for the dolls and changes to the story, with fan favorite characters being omitted such as Peanut and Cloud E.
Lalaloopsy sort of died after the Netflix show until the 10th anniversary re-released in 2021ish, old and new dolls just like the old ones coming out and old songs and movies getting YouTube uploads. Nothing's really happened since but hey.
Fun facts: the series was racist a lot, I think they've been getting better but c'mon, Mittens, Mango, Sahara, Yuki, Feather, the fact that Dot was the darkest character and got like no merchandise, the whitewashing of Cinder, I think they've been rectifying some of these things lately thankfully.
They've tried to ride the coattails of mlp (ponies) and monster and ever after high (girls) to eh results
The Babies Diaper and Potty Surprise dolls probably foreshadowed the oddly scatalogical direction MGA has taken in recent years
Like everyone is neurodivergent coded in the Netflix series
People thought Suzette La Sweet and Crumpet Hearts were getting married in the Sew Royal Tea Party bundle
I think Rosy's design had to get changed because of violating Red Cross guidelines at some point
For some reason Bundles is shown with a pacifier a lot even though she's never come with one outside of a mini, same with Rosy's hat and Misty's gloves
(My dad used to put my dolls up in trees and it made me sad, that's neither fun nor a fact but)

Twitter is in shambles over het dating news for some of the sapphics' favorite women, and I've been seeing some talk over here about Taekook's future and the reality for queer idols. Holland and the DIP members who were confirmed to be dating come up a lot. I still want to yell about how much of an outlier Tae's open support of and connection to the queer community is, but there's another out idol that doesn't get mentioned nearly as much and want to bring some deserved attention and love to her. I've been into Kpop for mmmmm maybe fifteenish years now. There is no group that has been as special to me as BTS. They're my ult, and have been since I found them falling down the YouTube rabbit hole back in 2014. I'm a fan of a handful of others. My early favorite gg until they broke up was Wa$$up. The first gg I actually bought a full album for. I'm still salty they didn't make it. 😅 Shortly after they disbanded, one of the members came out as bisexual and posted pictures with her girlfriend.
I was so proud and happy for her. Her story is pretty amazing, she has a new girlfriend now and in this interview talks about how even her previous gf had issues with her bisexuality.
She has been very outspoken about her sexuality and struggles faced by the SK queer community. She has not been signed by a new agency, but was able to crowdfund and release an album independently called "Love is Love". The whole album is great. I think her voice is so beautiful.
youtube
She also posts a lot of song covers on her YouTube. This one gave me goosebumps😭

This shouldn't come off controversial but given all of 2023 and the last 2 months I understand what I will say may piss off some but I gotta say it
Nijisanji shouldn't market their EN livers as idols when only very specific ones get to post covers and originals.
It actually pisses me off that Kyo Kaneko only got 1 original song outside of his debut (which was universally hated because the producer, disrector, or sound mixer chose to autotune the fuck outta everybody to a detriment) and the only other track is a bit of a joke with Enna. And tbh, if I can make a preemptive call, you can tell who is leaving next by how many songs and covers are out. Okay so hear me out.
As part of the audition process, not only are they not allowed to do other work but they can't be throwing their voice around (see Cyyu's audition experience) because of their status as contract workers; this is also why they didn't have to participate in any strikes last year on the technicality that all of them were under assumed yearly contracts that started before the strikes and would only get renewed after the strikes had ended.
But my issue with that, as someone who almost auditioned, is they prefer and encourage singers to join and almost everybody who's left immediately dropped (graduated or terminated) participated in something music related. Kyo releasing today's song as a goodbye when he won't be getting a cut after Feb fills me with r a g e as someone who knows how shit YouTube ad and view revenue + pay for songs can be.
And I cannot stress this enough, at the majority of live events, said livers do a shitton of covers, and that's fine & expected, but when you have the equivalent of a fucking choir in your ranks and the money to buy the rights to songs, why not give them more songs that can be monetized by both the liver & company? YouTube pays but not as much as a multi-platform release. Why are label based livers still doing indie level work with sometimes, having original tracks with worse than indie quality?
Now, Niji isn't the only company making this mistake to not utilize their whole choir consistently
*pauses to stare at VShojo & Holo for 5 seconds in a deeply tired and ○-○ face*
HOWEVER Niji is the only one who actively struggles to monetize their originals. After Tsunami dropped there was a several month period before it was put on Spotify + the producer for the track KIRA revealed he wasn't getting paid and opening donations within the same time span. That coincidence never sat right with me as a long time KIRA vocaloid producer fan- but it makes me wonder how many original songs have been scrapped because of management. Are livers doing mostly covers & not using 3D at live events last minute because somebody isn't getting paid? Because that's what it feels like. Iluna aren't bad singers- the sound mixer probably wasn't paid & said "fuck it" when it came to their debut song's autotuning due to management- let's be real about it.
So yeah in conclusion, stream Distant, because unless she gets the opportunity to say otherwise- I fear and genuinely don't believe Finana or any of the remaining livers are making/made enough money back from their original songs. I hope Kyo gets something, even if it's scraps, because it's unclear if original songs fall under voice pack sales. It will actually devastate me if he isn't paid at all since it's not a full month of streaming.
And hopefully all this public pressure makes investors ask the real questions because I cannot tolerate it anymore. I feel like I'm the only one voicing it right now but this isn't the first time the fans and the general public have wondered why AnyColor Inc doesn't fully commit to the idol shit for Niji EN. Let the livers sing, guarantee they're at least getting 40-50%, and pay all collaborators who participate in original tracks.

Okay I'ma shut up now- no more beating the hurting horse's owner for abuse from me until further notice,

The History of Ruin's Heir
What's "Ruin's Heir"?
Tumblr media
Ruin's Heir is a fantasy comic, published at ComicFury by me.
After the gateway to the realm of death has been shattered, the balance of the world has been disturbed, slowly being eaten away by the deadly matter know as "the ruin". Vervain, a young wolf, finds that he has a deep connection to the Grimgrove and its ruin. In order to prevent the inevitable, he must find his True Name.
First page was published 9th April 2023, but the history of this story goes way back to the year 2011. I have now written some of it down, mostly for myself, but if you have found yourself curious and want to give it a read, I welcome you with warmth.
Tumblr media
Nemorosa and Vervain
2011 - Parantajan oppipoika
The beginning
Tumblr media
At this point in my life I had spent about three years watching YouTube animated series about dogs.
I also did create my own series, several, even before this one, but never published those anywhere, and sadly I do not have them anymore. 2010 December I got my very first own computer, and I got absolutely hog-wild with the new-found freedom of interwebs.
At the age of 12, I finally created my very own YouTube account.
I of course had to create my very own dog (or in this case, wolf) series. I pulled out my trusty MsPaint, and started to work without too much thought about the plot, or anything.
Just wanted to do something, probably came up with the designs at the spur of the moment too.
Tumblr media
Juniper and Vervain
The series was called Parantajan oppipoika, until I changed the name to Apprentice, thinking that... English is cool? I don't think though that I ever succesfully released an episode with the new name, so Apprentice didn't really stick. So Parantajan oppipoika it is.
The series had 2 finished apisode, third one was left unfinished.
Which sounds kinda underwhelming. But despite its short visit at the time, Parantajan oppipoika would leave a mark in my heart that was waiting for its next opportunity to shine.
Story
Vervain, young member of the wolf pack, dreams nothing more than being a healer's apprentice. When the day comes that the pack's healer, Clover, chooses her apperentice, Vervain is very excited and hopeful about the end result. But he is left dissapointed, when instead of him, his friend Dandelion is chosen. Some days after the ceremony, Vervain notices that Dandelion seems very tired and absent, barely responding when he asks her anything. Without his knowledge, Dandelion has been suffering from the nightmarish visions she started to get after she was appointed as a healer's apprentice. Next evening, Vervain follows a raven, who guides him to find Dandelion at the forest, killed by a bear. Clover blaming herself, believes this was a sign that her decision was a mistake, and appoints Vervain as her new apprentice.
Poor Dandelion...
Inspirations
At the time, I have just got into Warrior Cats, and it was also very clear with Parantajan oppipoika. Pack's structure, nature themed names, and concept of the healer all came from there. I also remember that Vervain's name was taken straight from Watership Down, from the character with the same name.
Videos etc.
Not much material is left from this time, which is a big shame for me personally, as I would love to see the first 2 episodes again.
Though, some materials are still intact, and I'll cherish them.
The first opening of Parantajan oppipoika.
youtube
To this very day I still associate this song to Ruin's Heir. Kinda hoping that someday I could animate something to it...
Unfinished "new" opening
youtube
I remember being very, very proud of this one. And honestly, good for you, 12-13 years old Iro, you indeed did good. I think the development between these two openings are visible already.
Unfinished episode 3
(with a placeholder music, I think the original had The Lion King music), pretty short, but oh... the relic....
I think this is all I have to say about the first version of this story, for now.
Tumblr media
Hassireeee, Veervain
Tumblr media
2013 - Hour of the Wolf
The resurrection
Parantajan oppipoika went to the slumber for time being, and I didn't finish episode 3. If I remember right, I didn't do much with these characters after cancelling the series.
But, in 2013 they returned. I started to work on the reboot, called "Hour of the Wolf"
Tumblr media
I literally forgot it was called that. Anyways.
I must admit that I don't remember much specifics from this era, I found an outline for the planned episodes so nevermind about not remembering.
Once again, I was planning on making an animated series, but this time with less success than before. Not a single episode were finished.
But looking at the outline, there was a plan for 16 episodes in total.
Some aspects from 2011 version were kept, but some were also dropped. Vervain didn't want to be a healer anymore, and whole concept of healers seemed to be absent from this version in general. Instead story now focused more on the relationship between Vervain ja Raven, and also war that our main pack, Tyrmäinen, was having with "Bonefangs" pack.
Even though a lot has changed since this version of the story, it did an important groundwork for its future. A lot characters that exits nowadays, were created back then. Even some plot points, though with drastic changes, have stayed in some form.
Tumblr media
Sedum and Bracken
Tumblr media
Goldenrod, Bracken, Nuphar (down), Sedum, Woundwort, and Majalis
Characters
Sedum and Bracken were old faces from the 2011, but most of the pack's youngsters were created 2013. Nuphar, Pillwort, and Majalis are still part of the cast today. Twins Woundwort and Golderod were part of the story for a long time before being cut 2022.
Tumblr media
Vervain and Raven
Vervain bond with ravens was now strengthened. Especially with this one raven, who was also his father's old Guardian, and only thing that the villain, Elder, was truly afraid of. Raven's characterization, and purpose for the story has changed several times after this, but presence of the Raven has been kept strong ever since.
Story
After the death of Dandelion, Vervain finds an injured wolf named Juniper. She is taken in, and she warns the pack about approaching rival pack, Bonefangs, who she also was part of formerly. After the presence of bonefangs has been made known, security measures are tightened, and atmosphere in the pack gets heavy. At the same time, Vervain meets Raven, who seems to be his, and unknowingly to him, his deceased father's Guardian. War between the two wolf packs goes on, until tragedy strikes the pack, and it's rumored that among them there's a traitor…
Tumblr media
Elder, Vervain, and Raven
As I'm reading this outline now, I'm thinking "damn, I really did read Harry Potter back then didn't I?"
Some of the plotlines were almost straight from there...

Didn't get far, but cool.
Tumblr media
2015 - Kaarnen Herra
The new era
I still quite like this name I had. It's translated "Lord of the Raven", and I pretty much got it from Lord of the Rings. Good naming technique I would say.
Tumblr media
Apparently I started to do reboots every two years.
Once again, I wanted to make a youtube animated series. Because I never learn.
Though this time I learned a little bit, and opted out from making a fully animated series, and instead used minimal amount of pictures. Episode 1 was still left unfinished, because the workload still didn't fit me.
Tumblr media
Nemorosa and Vervain
This is probably when this story started to have more online presence. I'm still surprised when people leave a comment somewhere and actually know Vervain's name off the bat.
Even thought this is probably the point where magic wolves' hold over my brain capacity got stronger than ever before, it's also the era where I feel I made my biggest mistake and regret with this story. It was when I put feathers on their heads, unknowingly enforcing racist stereotypes about native people.
I always struggled to find justification lore-wise for why they even had those, so when I finally realized and decided that this whole thing actually comes from a very harmful place, and should be removed, I myself felt very relieved.
This is the time in my life I did a lot drawings and videos about Kaarnen Herra, but I can't say that I would feel comfortable sharing all of it so freely nowadays.
Story
Life at Tyrmänkä's pack has been ever so peaceful, until a weird strom rises. Vervain notices that this has made his friend Dandelion restless, and when he sees that she has went to the forest alone, he follows. Vervain stumbles on to the scene, when Dandelion is trying to bind down an angered spirit, costing her life. Spell however has got its hold on Vervain too, and slowly it rips more and more away his life. One way to save his own life would be to void the spell and release the spirit, but that would possibly cost his pack's life if done so. Luckily, helpful Raven and a stoat named Portimo wants to help him to find another way to save himself...
Tumblr media
Vervain and Bracken
Characters
This version brought many new characters, but for this I wanted to showcase these two selectet characters, which I feel have been more influential. Portimo and Tormentil.
Tumblr media
Tormentil and Portimo
Portimo
At first there was supposed to be three stoats, capable of merging into one big stoat monster, but at some point, three turned into just one character. (Stoat monster was however apparently kept at least some time after this, for some reason.)
Tumblr media
I can't remember where the idea of having a villanous small stoat came from, but I thank the past me of this. Nowadays it's hard to think of this story without Portimo.
Portimo changed a lot tings about the plot, and was even some sort of main villain of the series. Kuilunka, formerly Bonefangs, then became more sympathetic, although still antagonistics.
His name by the way is just a old finnish name for stoats. So his name is just Stoat 👍
Tormentil
Tormentil is a mix of old and new, as her intial inspiration came way back from 2011, from Parantajan oppipoika.
Back then Elder (who was named Vomitflower back then.... I have found no proof that such flower exists, but it might be inspired by the plant called ipecacuanha).
Anyways, Elder/Vomitflower had a sidekick, whose trope was "even more sadistic than the boss". Back then her name was Cactus-spike.
Tumblr media
Cactus-spike got a massive overhaul designwise, and a new name, since I didn't want these wolves to know what cacti are. She pretty much became a new character, but fullfilling the same initial role as previously.
Her role also grew a lot from what I originally planned, mostly because I got a such positive feedback from her, and I wanted to utilize her potential more.

2019 - Goodbye animation
Finally I came to the conclusion that I can't work on this story in form of animation, and instead decided to try dip myself back into the wolrd of comics.
And by back I mean that I used to do a lot comics when I was 7-12 years old, but stopped working on those after getting more into doing animations instead.
There were actually two tries, before I started to publish pages publicly. First one I treated more like a test from the beginning, to see how it feels to work on the comic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Page 1. Ohto Page 2. Nemorosa and Vervain
End result was: It felt pretty nice. My confidence towards this new approach grew, and decided that this would be something I wanted to try in the long run.
I stopped this first run after 12 pages, reworked some aspects of the story, and started to work on the real deal.
But I clearly still had some things to learn....
Tumblr media
2020 - Setback
The plot got very big changes, with the threat of the apocalypse looming over the characters now. As I wanted to strengthen to conflict within the world, and make it affect the characters.
With these new additions, some new characters were also brought in (or old ones totally reworked).
Tumblr media
Everhalo and Ruinkeeper
New characters
Raven's character got a total overhaul. Now instead of being Vervain's companion, she became the Spirit of death, and was named Ruinkeeper.
This change also later contributed to why story's name was renamed Ruin's Heir (or the finnish name, Kalman lapsi). As I felt that no one would feel any lordiness over this Raven anymore, so I felt that it didn't fit anymore.
With the Spirit of death, there was also added Spirit of life, Everhalo. Who seems to have his own agenda in the grand scheme of things.
_
I worked on the first chapter, year had passed already and the chapter was close to the finish line.
I had done 34 pages, but finishing the last 7 pages felt too much.
Tumblr media
Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper
I believe that I did a mistake in complicating the backgrounds for the actual comic. Instead of doing a lined work like I did back in my first version, I tried to give it more painted look. So now it didn't feel so good to do anymore, and I felt like I had to do something differend...
So I did what you're always told to not to do when working on comics, and started over.
Tumblr media
2022- Ruin's Heir
This is the version I finally started to publish to ComicFury.
The scene did had some chages, but the basic idea was kept same. Tormentil needs to kill Ruinkeeper.
Some pages were reused, and the color palette kept same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tormentil, Elder, and Ruinkeeper
I do count this and the previous version of chapter 1 in the same era, as the actual story has no big changes made between these.
Two characters had redesigns though, Elder and Vervain
Tumblr media
Elder (old and new)
Tumblr media
Vervain
Changing Vervain's design especially felt like I was about to do a crime. But just how with the name change, I just felt that his older design didn't work with his character anymore. Even though I had grown very attached to it.
Luckily, I can say that I'm now quite happy with his design.
The End
At this very moment I'm writing this paragraph, I'm working on the chapter two, with the last six pages work in progress. So far my feelings toward making this comic has been very positive, and it's one of the rays of joy that I have at the moment.
I admit it's one my fears that what if someday I'm not able to work on it anymore? But I guess it's no use to worry too much about the future, while still having this very moment at the hand.
Will I change my mind about this comic in two years? Could be plausible, when looking at my past set records of reboot after reboots. But it's okay, and I'm trying to follow my principle, which pretty much is "follow your heart, it's yours after all".

Vienna Waits for You
I heard Billy Joel growing up--my mom has been a fan since the seventies and I really liked a couple songs that played on the local classic rock station--but I really got interested in his music when I was fifteen. I was hot-gluing some things together for an English project and I was looking for music to listen to when I found The Stranger and 52nd Street. I listened to the back-to-back and it was the closest this lifelong atheist has ever come to a religious experience. Something changed in me. I started listening to the rest of his albums online and pestered my mom until she bought the ones she didn't have already.
It was 2011. Billy Joel was still on the tail end of his decade of depression that he blamed on 9/11. He wasn't releasing new music, he wasn't touring, and there was no indication he was planning on doing either again. I watched video after video on YouTube from his masterclasses and Q&As and hoped maybe he'd at least do more of those so I could see him, even if I never got to hear him perform.
2012 rolled around. Hurricane Sandy hit. Chris Christie hugged Barack Obama and a bunch of musicians put together the 12/12/12 benefit concert. Billy Joel participated and it went so well that he decided to start performing again. When he announced his residency at Madison Square Garden I was living in Ohio and New York City felt out of reach. He started doing tour dates and I had several failed attempts at getting tickets to the ones close to me. I was afraid he'd stop touring. Finally, in 2015, I saw him in Chicago. I had a few favorite songs I was hoping to hear. He played all of them except one: Vienna.
I could have been happy with that, but a month later while I was in college in western Massachusetts, I found out he was doing a talk and Q&A at the New Yorker Festival. I took a Peter Pan bus to New York City by myself and I got to sit in the front row. I didn't get to ask a question but I don't know what I would have said anyway.
I could have been satisfied with that. It was more than I ever thought I'd get. It was a lot. But the farther away 2015 got, the more desperate I felt to hear him play live again. In 2023, I saw him play in Madison Square Garden. A dream come true. He opened with My Life--a fantastic opener--then played Pressure, which I loved. Next was Everybody Loves You Now and I was still recovering from actually hearing a song from Cold Spring Harbor live fifty-two years after it was originally released, when he introduced the next song. He didn't name it, he just said it was an album track from The Stranger that took on a life of its own.
He played Vienna.
The rest of the show was wonderful, but everything peaked for me in those four minutes. I waited more than ten years and it felt like I was waiting my whole life.
Vienna waits for me.

Floyd Jones - "Dark Road" Blues Is Killin' Me Song released in 1951. Compilation released in 1990. Blues
Plays: ~9.1K on Spotify // ~2.5K on YouTube
The deeply underappreciated bluesman, Floyd Jones, who was born in Arkansas and then became a fixture of Chicago's post-war scene, didn't actually end up producing much of a catalog himself. Although he'd played blues in the Windy City from his arrival in the mid-40s up until his death in 1989, Jones had only ended up totaling a dozen original compositions of his own throughout his long career. But when it comes to his overall lack of original recorded output, it is essential to stress quality over quantity. According to writer Justin O'Brien, who was quoted in a 1990 article in the Chicago Tribune that reported on a memorial that was held in Jones' honor after his passing, all of his works "have a consistent quality to them-this brooding intensity, this tremendous sadness."
The article continues:
Jones played with some of the greats-Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sunnyland Slim, James Cotton and Jimmy Rogers-but he never made it big himself. The bespectacled singer wasn't even flamboyant enough to earn a nickname. His big brush with fame came when the band Canned Heat recorded a hit song called "On the Road Again," which resembled Jones' song of the same name in more than just title. Jones took on the record company and received a royalty settlement in the early 1970s.
But before Jones had actually ever recorded "On the Road Again" in 1953, he had already released its predecessor, "Dark Road," in 1951, which is pretty much the same song, but with a few different lines. And there appear to be two different versions of "Dark Road" as well: the original, which was done in March of 1951 for Chicago's J.O.B.—a label that, much like Jones, never put out too many records, but released music from some pretty legendary talents—and a later one that was made in December of that same year for Chess, an outfit that would go on to become a hugely successful household name. This version here, though, is the original one that was released on J.O.B.
Now, while Jones' remarkably soul-piercing voice is what gives this song a good deal of its power, the other key cog in this particular session is the piano work of another Chicago blues legend, the aforementioned Sunnyland Slim, who also happened to man the keys for "On the Road Again" too. But while he's not too showy on "On the Road Again," he provides much more notable accompaniment here, with unpredictably gliding fingers that supply satisfying bevies of flutteriness and repeated rapidfire stabs of the same notes that sound improvised. And while this and "On the Road Again" are both excellent recordings, I think Slim's more unique approach to playing piano on this one has a way of making it more of a dynamic tune, overall. His contributions may distract somewhat from the real star of this show here, Floyd Jones, but, at the same time, they also really enhance the track.
So, Floyd Jones never put out much music of his own throughout his decades-long career, but when he did, you could be rest assured that it would be solid gold, and this song here serves as a prime example.

updated ash intro under the cut ! the real preamble will be added here later because my brain is dead rn. i tried to keep this short but that's really not my specialty. um... ash as a person has mostly stayed the same, i just wanted to make some parts of his background more concrete and give him more internal + external conflicts so it's easier for me to get in his head. if you read this and think anything we've plotted / written needs to change, please let me know and i'll be happy to work something else out !! if you would like to continue plotting or start plotting, please like this and you'll hear from me soon-ish 🤍
background
spent his earliest years in san francisco with his parents, then spent periods of time around ages 6 -13 traveling around the world a lot with his mom (places he lived for brief-ish periods of time include tokyo, london, vancouver, seoul, and queenstown new zealand)
he moved to los angeles shortly before high school and attended some fairly well-known performing arts high school
uploaded covers and original songs on youtube and soundcloud in high school, spent his fridays at open mics or actual gigs when he could get them, etc. he released three mixtapes (greed, esprit, and evergrey) and a few standalone original tracks that gained some amount of attention on soundcloud.
he got a publishing and artist deal with a multi-national label (think like warner / universal) post-graduation and worked as a songwriter and producer under the name greymatter (his soundcloud name) with credits for several korean and u.s. artists (possible plot for recording artist muses!)
made his debut in the us in 2015 with put my hands on you and love. promoted his ass off at small radio stations and shows but it didn't make a huge splash.
debuted in korea in 2016 with an ep to more success. became known as a rising star producer (won composer of the year at mama) and singer in the korean r&b scene. his label mediaplayed him a bit as an r&b pretty boy... the first real point of contention between him and his label.
more cracks started to form because of difference in vision with his label and he started to burn out a little. fought w/ his label to release instagram, cue the biggest hit of his career.
scene opens on a few months later... ash kwon, a man from california, might... smoke weed ????? nothing comes of a police investigation b/c he's not a korean citizen and there's no concrete proof he ever did it in korea but the headlines and some other controversies that are dug up in tandem are enough to turn public opinion against him.
contract with his agency is terminated, he disappears save for a couple song credits here and there (taylor swift vc: nobody physically saw me for a year). about a year later, he reappears under the radar playing super small shows in hongdae and itaewon as the lead vocalist of a new band called blacklight
eventually signs with culture creative and establishes a sub-label for him & his band. works primarily as a songwriter-producer/director/photographer/band member for about three years until he drops a new solo album after, like, half a decade
personality
invented being an emo boy actually. too emotional for his own good. believes his own tortured artist hype sometimes.
also too reckless for his own good and convinces himself it's just independence and it's a good thing!
one of his toxic traits is claiming to hate fame but craving the validation of an audience to kind of absurd levels
can be very flighty and hard to reach, but is incredibly loyal to those he values most
says he hates conflict but will start an argument just to feel something sometimes
lives in his head and not in a fun lil manic pixie dream boy way but a slightly self-obsessed anxiety spiral kinda way
you thinks he's so cool and different and then the law pulls up and he won't get in the car and you're like oh god damn not another rockstar 🙄
plot ideas
roommate / former roommate ? he's the kind of guy who needs his alone time and would rather live on his own, but he might have had roommates in his early days in seoul (2016ish) or briefly post-scandal or even now because one or both of them is in between places.
musical collaborators. fellow songwriters and/or producers he works with sometimes. singers whose voices he'll use on demos when his won't really work, recording artists he works with as a songwriter and/or producer a lot (or even has just worked with once tbh). people who have featured on his music
muses he's directed an mv of (or will in the future) or has photographed (or will in the future)! he has a sort of specific style that's kind of dark, horror-inspired but i'd love to try to work something out for anyone!!
here's a list of ways muses can be involved in his career items if anyone is interested !!!
people he knows from his childhood or adolescence? people from san francisco / the bay area or los angeles are easiest for this, but he did spend short times in other places with his mom like tokyo, london, vancouver, and new zealand, so they could have met there as well
people whose work he's a fan of! this is easiest with singers who do r&b or more indie rock type stuff or directors tbh, but muses adjacent to any kind of grungy / existential / artsy stuff are also an option lmao
alternatively people who are fans of his work ? could also be a never meet your heros, met him and it soured their opinion of him type thing. or they clicked and they got close despite his reservations about anyone being a fan of him lmao
younger or older people he has a sibling-like relationship with. as an only child, give him some chosen siblings.
exes, flings, hook-ups, fwbs, people he kisses on the mouth platonically, whatever. he infamously gets around but is also incredibly intense with all feelings, positive or negative
people who dropped him when public tide turned against him... or people who stood by his side... or people he became friends with during his time away from the public eye
people who won't put up with his shit, for better or for worse. people who he doesn't vibe with. people he doesn't understand but is lowkey dying to figure out how their brain works.
if you're thinking about making a new muse and think his band blacklight might be a good fit and we've plotted before, i'd be down to talking that out as a potential plot. the band needs a keyboardist, a bassist, a drummer, and potentially another guitarist. there are certain dynamics i'm looking for within the band and a certain vision i have for it, so i'd just want to talk about it a little in-depth first to make sure we're on the same page which is why the collective isn't technically "open"
+ very vague plot page to keep you on your toes

Hi! So one afternoon this week, I suddenly remembered a phrase and I knew that it was from a song. A Justin Bieber song to be specific. The words were "And then you say, hope this will last forever."
I searched it on Spotify at first and I couldn't find it so I went to YouTube and there's nothing as well. Well, I wasn't sure of the title so I looked it up on Google and found out that this song was unreleased that's why it can't be found in Spotify. I proceeded to YouTube and found this link. I listened to the song and the flow of memories came rushing in. My heart sunk but it didn't ache but I felt happy. I managed to put a smile halfway to the song and I remember every beat of the song making me sing along to it.
It's the first time I managed to finish a throwback song about her without crying and feeling chest pains. I felt relieved. Maybe I am finally going somewhere else. I am moving forward.
I wonder why this song wasn't released? It's a good song.
Ok so, a little story for this song. It was 2013, we graduated high school. It was summer break and I got sick. She went to our house just right after my mom left for work. She got worried I was sick and also maybe because who knows when we will be seeing each other again. At first, I thought after our graduation that I won't be seeing her after that because I haven't tried meeting up with friends during summer breaks. I never tried asking for permission because I know that I won't be allowed to go outside so I gave up that thought already and accepted that it was the end of our story. I was really glad she visited me. Took care of me. Stayed by my side while I sleep. She never left until she has to because mom will be arriving soon. While I was asleep, she played some music and I woke up hearing this song. It instantly became one of my favorite songs.
That day was magical and the next following days until my cousin outed me to my mom.
Anyways, it was magical to hear this song again. A lot of memories resurfaced and it really felt nice to know that I was relieved after hearing the song. I guess this is it. All of these will just be in the deepest corners of my mind and heart. No more forcing myself to remember each memory. I'm finally starting to let you go.
Thank you so much for everything. For every sacrifices and battles you faced alone to save me and protect me. Thank you for understanding even when you are the one who needs to be understood. Thank you for being strong every time I showed weakness. Thank you for being brave enough to face your fears for me. Thank you for being courageous enough to come back into my life despite pushing you away. Thank you for always being there by my side, watching me silently and rescue me when I needed one even when we were miles apart and have not talked for months and years. I see all your efforts and scars now. I see it all. Thank you for pouring me your all. Thank you.

Wondering whether other adhders like or hate repetition, or if it varies from person to person. I have so far found out that almost every autistic person I have talked to, prefers repetition. By this I mean they listen to the same song over and over again, watch the same movie or series several times in a row (in a span of days or weeks etc.), keep going back to read the same fanfics over and over again...
This kind of behaviour is very bizarre for me. I get really understimulated if I even think about doing so.
With songs I kinda experience misophonia because I have misophonia for repetitive noises. They make me feel really uncomfortable, and it just feels so wrong that when a song ends, it immediately starts over. It just was not meant to be played that way! I do this only when a really good song is released and there is not more songs to listen to (yet), and I can't get enough of it, so there's nothing else left than to keep listening to that one song over and over again until my head stops playing it. But if there are artists who only release one song every now and then? I usually don't listen to their music, because I like having albums with many songs because I get bored with just one or two songs so fast. Sure with music I have the same bands and albums I listen to from year to year, but I often can take months or even a couple of years during which I don't listen to some of them at all. Right now I haven't listened to music properly since... lasy autumn. A few weeks ago I did listen to something new, but only because it was good background music for writing a report for school apparently.
What comes to films and series, I do rewatch stuff, but often there has to be months or even years before I do so again. Films that have really complex plots, those I might rewatch sooner too. There are also many that I have rewatched many many times, but I've done so because they are something I have seen as a kid they've already become nostalgic for me and they feel safe and make me feel good because of the nostalgia. Sometimes I don't even have any real opinion on them, I just grew up with them and they feel like siblings to me, but I have no particular emotions towards those movies (apart from some). But with most I just can't get myself to rewatch something that quickly (unless I for some reason hyperfixated), especially if there are many very understimulating scenes in the film, which then immediately make me feel like I don't feel like rewatching that film just yet. The understimulating scenes are too fresh in my memory so even the interesting and favorite scenes are not worth it, and I can always watch the fave scenes from youtube anyway if I really need to see something specific.
Books I have reread, but that's because I'm so bad at finding and starting anything new. I simply don't know what I like to read, but I still have the need to _read and the need to have a book I can grab if I suddenly have the urge to read. And often I've just started the same book series over because there I at least have had several books to read and didn't have to think about what to read next until I was done with the series. And then I was done, wanted something to read, and started over because "there's nothing else interesting enough to read anyway".
I don't know if I have ever really reread fanfiction apart from the normal 2-3 times I read before I feel like I'm ready to leave a comment. The common adhd mood for me is that if I have read it once, I have seen it already, and it's my time to look for something new. I only reread my own stories, but it's because I'm the only person writing the kind of fanfiction I want to read, and I hate the fact that I need to read my own fanfics. But no can do, and after a while I get really fed up with them too because I already know and remember everything and there's nothing new for me and it starts tasting so dull.
I think the only thing I actively reread is comics, but it's because there are thousands of little stories in form of comic strips and some of them are so funny I never get bored at laughing at them. But that's a whole different thing. I seem to like "repetition" only when it really makes me laugh. Which is why I never get bored with Monty Python, either, cos I always laugh at the same jokes. But apparently with anything else but humour, I get understimulated really fast and repetition is not an option unless it happens much much later. Maybe the laughing is related to dopamin or so, idk...

An, Edd n Eddy: Canceled and Deleted Episodes (Part 1?)
Tumblr media
An, Edd n Eddy, a fanmade show, was in production from September 2019 and it hadn't been released until July 18, 2020 during an ongoing pandemic, and here's a pretty good reason why too. An approval by my parents was impossible at the time, especially Dad's.
An, Edd n Eddy at McDonald's Playground managed to be released on YouTube on that day because of my brother, Quinn! That episode was made on September 2019 when we've planned to take a picture outside Starbucks, but ended up taking a picture at McDonald's instead. This episode was the only one out of the 3 An, Edd n Eddy forgotten episodes to be released. Sure, that episode was overdue or out-of-date due to my changes of An, Edd n Eddy in 2020 (and the pandemic), but it was still good.
I decided to gather up the episodes I wanna show you that lost its or didn't end up in production due to me forgetting or some problems, but let's get straight into it!
Tumblr media
Edd the Pouch Daddy was an episode based on Double D The Pouch Daddy, which was my alternative version of Edd who carries Little Edd. It may be ridiculous, but I love it!
The story all started when An gave birth to "LITERALLY" a sperm and an ova (egg) due to radiation poisoning. They sang Mad TV Sesame Street songs before they head to the hospital!
The hospital in Mesa was where my dad died and we recorded the scene where Edd had to go through surgery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pictures I drew were the progress where Edd got the surgery to get his pouch inserted, along with an ova. That's how the development of Edd Jr. began.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah the development was ridiculous from newborn Edd to toddler Edd in EXACTLY 9 months! How ridiculous!
Edd notices and realizes that little Edd was coming to the world, and that's how Little Edd saw the world, and his young dad. He was born while the police investigated the scene.
It was Alien D trying to help Elmo make a dirty bomb. Elmo was of course Elmo TMX, and he was sent away.
That episode was almost parodied and ripped off a Mad TV episode, but it wasn't the first one being ripped off.
An episode had the song about the prison parody. That episode was also the time that Eddy and Sarah finally had a daughter named Clara.
The last "planned" episode was about the kids of the cul-de-sac moving away because animation was officially coming for An, Edd n Eddy and ready to be made public.
These episodes were all backfired and canceled.
There were also episodes that was going to feature the first appearance of our cool Ed!
Tumblr media
"Swiggity swag, what's in the bag?" - Ed
Ed was going to be part of animated short where An and Eddy tried their lucks with fortune cookies. Ed was one of An's lucky fortune cookies where he was described as handsome, and just like her. That's how they both had a baby together.
One episode was about An, Edd n Eddy going inside a shelter through a rough cold storm. Sarah told them about her brother coming over. Who didn't we expect, Sarah?
Don't Stop Believing, named after a song by Journey, was an episode where An, Edd n Eddy and their friends tried to catch a unicorn named Dave from Shark Puppet. Ed would walk in the park saying "Swiggity swag! What's in the bag? I'm gonna walk around the park today!" (Definitely wanna use that script again for newer episodes of An, Edd n Eddy!)
That episodes was also gonna have a first appearance of Ariana the mermaid, but was canceled!
Here are the title card of our other forgotten episodes
Tumblr media
We tried to make that episode on New Year's eve. :(
Tumblr media
We tried mentioning that title on an Anti-piracy screen video, and one of the practices we did while the train was moving, but that title card was out of date, anyways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was supposed to be Bella's first appearance. I feel bad...

Yknow the thing of Huey not being in the promos is suddenly reminding me of before "Astro Boyd!" aired when the preview stuff didn't include Gyro at all even though we knew he was in the episode so we all started worrying about him...
... And it turned out the promo content took place while he was doing something mundane somewhere else

If I had a nickel for every cartoon I watched where an anthropomorphic actor in Hollywood had an old friend who's an anthropomorphic deer living in New Mexico, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't much but it's kinda funny it's happened twice

I keep feeling like I need to say some sort of final words on the fact DuckTales is over, but I’ve been struggling to figure out what I wanted to say all day until I realized something...
The emotional attachment I have to this show was higher than I realized
I remember four years ago, scrolling through my phone kinda trying to ignore the face I was officially an adult when I found the first full trailer for the upcoming DuckTales show. I’d seen some stuff about the reboot but I’d never really watched the original DuckTales so it hadn’t drawn my interest too much. However, I decided to take a look at the trailer...
“Now going to: McDuck Manor.” “McDuck Manor? As in Scrooge McDuck?” “The bajillionaire?” “You’re finally gonna sell us.”
I laughed out loud at Louie’s response, and that moment had sold me on the show. I eagerly awaited the show as I finished high school and prepared to college, I looked into the lore of the characters that were going to be appearing in the show, and I even started plotting out a fic the day the theme song was released on YouTube.
I ended up loving the show when it aired. I fell in love with these characters and the story, though at the time, a different show kinda tended to take priority in my brain.
Two years later, I was struggling through my second year of college and that second show ended as Della Duck returned home to meet her kids. My mental stress had reached a peak and I spiraled into a nervous breakdown that forced me to drop out of school and even took away my writing ability.
That. That was a hit. I started writing when I was nine, so to lose that ability ten years later was... Scary, especially when my mental health was already so severely damaged. My friend introduced me to a different show I was able to write a little bit for, but everything felt off and sticky when I tried to write...
I then came back to DuckTales. And my creativity flourished in a way it hadn’t been when my mental state started declining. I’ve been sorting through WiPs in my folder and while the show that’d ended around the time my breakdown hit always had kinda been my ‘dominant’ fandom with most of my fics in it, I’m looking over it now and it seems DuckTales has overtaken it (even of many of those fics aren’t posted yet). I just couldn’t stop coming up with ideas once I started.
So I think that’s why this is hitting me so hard. This show helped restore a core aspect of my identity, so it feels hard to let it go. Plus the fact that I... Don’t have any other fandoms I’m active in after this.
Tumblr media
I hope this fandom stays going. There are so many creative people here and I want to hold onto this... And a few I’ve met because of this show I want to personally thank:
@halfshellkayla -- A fellow angsting buddy who helped me develop that first scrapped idea and to this day continues to help me with story discussion
@kats-randomology -- We don’t talk as much anymore, but you definitely were an early influence in me developing my take on these characters
@stevenfallsvs -- An absolute AU genius who somehow thinks me wanting to write for said AUs is a huge honor (even I stand by you being the true genius behind them and I’m the one who should be honored for you allowing me to play with your ideas)
@pholux-twg -- A great analysist who has always been willing to listen to me develop my ideas, even when I decided to throw in details just to cause to angst and pain and see your reactions ^-^
@plainiack -- Every story needs a villain and you were always one who liked to see the potential in them. For some reason I never thought of the villains in my stories too much until you not only brought the potential of canon ones to my attention, but helped me develop my OC when all I had for him was a name and “he’s an asshole”
@lunawoona11 -- I don’t even know how we started talking but I’m glad we did. Your ideas are always fun and I always get excited when it’s time to talk with you every night
@imagine-pleasantnonsense -- A newer friend but one I love all the same. It’s rare to find someone who can make angst ideas that have me react, but that’s definitely something you manage, and I getting the chance to develop ideas with you
I hope we all can keep this adventure going ^-^

Me: Haha Fenton being a traitor for FOWL is a fun hypothetical to play with in fan fiction that could absolutely never happen in the show
Beaks in the Shell: Fenton is dating and working on an experiment with Gandra. Who everyone knows is part of FOWL. And Huey is needing to keep it secret
Me: ......... I'm going to go scream

when I first got into bts in 2017, surprisingly I focused on every ship but vmin. I never noticed vmin's bond from the beginning. I always seemed to overlook them for some reason. It wasn't until 2019 that I was like "yeah they're really best friends" but at the same time I also didn't believe it. I was also a victim of "if they're really close then why aren't they ever sighted together" and as sad as it made me. I concluded just like everybody else that they weren't as close anymore...
Especially after I since tae and the wooga squad always interacted. I just accepted the fact that he now has other friends he was closer to, and everyone seemed to feel the same way that they are not as close as before. And it hurt cos even tho I didn't ship them tae was creeping into my bias list together to with Jimin. But then during on promotions earlier this year, I noticed something. During the backstage videos at these shows, they were always hot and cold. Clingy one day and completely...
Ignoring each other the next. And It always seemed as if it was a push and pull. Jimin ignores tae one day then later seeks him out the next. It was so funny to witness. Then I saw the clip from the 2019 variety ball by chance, when taehyung was staring at jiving but dropped his eyes immediately jm looked back. Also the look he had while staring was woah! His eyes looked almost glossy. I felt chills. And even before I started shipping them, I was one of the non vminnies who always joked...
About how I was 90% sure they had kissed at least once. It's sorta a running joke on tweet. And then that video of them at the airport when tae dragged jm to him. I was like why have I never noticed these subtle things even though I loved to joke about them kissing cos of their clingyness. And I started to wonder how much of that joke could be true. And as someone whose a bit intuitive, I would actually be surprised if my instincts about them are wrong.
See? For me, I never got the feeling that they weren’t close. I’ve been watching them from the beginning, though, so how I see them and others see them might be different. (BELOW THE CUT)
I’m posting some thoughts here, but don’t think I’m arguing with you. ^^ Sometimes people get offended by how I word things?? I’ve had a few anons tell me I hurt their feelings...and I’m just. It’s never my intention....
First of all, thank you for the story~ I love hearing people’s vmin stories
It was a pretty popular joke in the fandom since the early days. “I don’t know if vmin are dating, but they’ve definitely kissed at least once....” This was something we joked about a lot since the early days.
I always thought it was funny that people used 2016 and 2017 to say that those were the years that Vmin weren’t close. Going on BV alone, we can tell that’s not true. 2016 was the year in which Taehyung was filming Hwarang and couldn’t join the members right away. Jimin kept in contact with him regularly. They did a lot of things on their own during this season, but I didn’t get the feeling they “weren’t close” because of it. They don’t have to do everything together. When Taehyung arrived and the members split up where they wanted to go out to eat, Taehyung decided to go eat seafood. Before his decision, Jimin asked him if he wanted to get meat, but he still decided on seafood. I think it hurt Jimin’s feelings that he didn’t want to go to the meat restaurant with him, and yeah...one might say that Taehyung decided to go to the seafood restaurant because he knows Jimin doesn’t like seafood and he didn’t want to eat with Jimin. But that’s a bit dramatic. He probably just really wanted seafood. There are other moments in the season (I have to rewatch it....I only watched it when it came out and once more when season 2 came out...so it’s been 3 years) where they are close. Jimin was worried when Taehyung got lost, and Taehyung joked a little to make him happy.
Then in season 2, when they went to Hawaii, you have 1.) Taehyung giving Jimin (and only Jimin) a gift. It was a snow glob with a couple in it. 2.) Taehyung’s letter to Jimin. 3.) Something we didn’t get to see, but Jimin told us about eventually. Every night, they went out and watched the stars together. All three of those things, to me, show that they were very close at the time. You don’t buy a gift specifically for someone you’re not close to. Taehyung’s letter was him letting a lot of things off his chest, and it made him emotional. Since he asked if the letters were going to be read out loud or revealed before writing it, I think he probably didn’t even put in everything he wanted to say. But Jimin understood anyway. And you don’t go out and watch the stars with someone you don’t care about. None of these have to be romantic, but they definitely show that these two care a lot about each other.
Like I said, that’s 2016 and 2017 going on BV alone. Don’t even get me started on 2018 BV which was a little different. Jimin seemed even more worried about leaving Taehyung behind than he did in season 1. I think the reason it bothered him more is because Taehyung was grieving at the time, and Jimin felt bad about having to leave him behind when he wanted to be with him.
I think a lot of why people felt that Vmin weren’t close was because of heavily edited content. Backstage moments, we don’t get to see all of what happens. So to say that they were acting a certain way, it might have only been for a very short moment. When they release any videos of them back stage, they really heavily cherry pick what they want us to see. And I’m not talking about the boys (though they might have some say), I’m talking about the editors and producers. So while Vmin may have seemed to be “avoiding” each other during one moment backstage, after another song or moment backstage, they might have been closer. We don’t know. Also, these moments are during performances where they’re not always in such a relaxed setting. They’re constantly getting read to go back out and perform their next song, and there are a lot more people around them. They are very different backstage compared to anywhere else...and if backstage moments are what people are observing...it’s no wonder they think Vmin aren’t close.
Also, I’d like to consider myself pretty intuitive as well...but it feels like a bold thing for me to say...^^ I don’t know if you follow any Youtubers, but I was one of the people who shipped Dan and Phil forever and thought there might actually be something between them. Everyone call phanies “crazy” and “delulu” only for Dan to have basically confirmed that there was something between them when he did his coming out video. He never confirmed what it was, but they were “more than friends.” So you really never know.

SHN INTERVIEW: Sleep Walking Animals
by Claire Silverman

Sleep Walking Animals, the indie-folk alternative rock band from Manchester, England, have just released their self-titled debut EP. Since SHN first interviewed the band at the start of the year, they have released two more singles, started playing live shows again as restrictions opened up, and have announced a co-headlining tour around the UK in October. At their EP launch gig at the Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden on the 20th of September, they performed their new music to a sold out crowd.
CS: Congrats on the EP coming out. When we spoke back in February, you mentioned your plans for the EP, so it’s very exciting that it’s here now. How are you all feeling?
Tom: Like it's about time.
Jack: “Angus’ Fool.” “Wild Folk,” and “Dance Laura Dance” are on the EP, so we started recording this EP in October 2019. So it's been a big process, and the EP is kind of about that process.
Tom: We didn't want to release things until we were happy with everything, because we did record enough songs back in 2019 to go on an EP. But in post [production], we were a little bit concerned that they weren't all up to the standard that we wanted. It was our first time in a studio together as well when we recorded those songs, so we needed to practice, we needed to get together more and get more experienced in the studio. Then we ended up going up to Stockport and using a studio called Green Velvet Studios and we laid down five tracks, three of which are on the EP.
Jack: So, yes, excited.

CS: Is there an overarching theme across the EP?
Tom: It feels like it's very much about things that have happened to us in the time it took to put the EP together, and things that have inspired us enough to write about, you know, various introductions to people, to new experiences, illnesses, life events that sparked something within us to try to make a good song out of.
Jack: The whole EP spans across when we started the band in 2018 right up to now, so a lot of the songs are about growth and change. But the songs are about our growth musically as well, which is a nice kind of coincidence.
Tom: “Angus’ Fool” was the first song we ever wrote together, so the EP spans from our first song together to things we were writing in lockdown. So like Jack said it’s a span of two and a half years.
Alex: “Native” was written after we played Farm Fest [this summer].
CS: So now that you have more music out and have started to establish your sound, how did you figure out what genre of music you wanted to make?
Alex: It's funny, you just mentioned “Native” and I think that was the point that pushed us to fatten up the sound a little bit. I mean, the style of the song made us realize that we can push it a little bit more. And we have a few like one recorded songs, which are definitely a lot more rock-y.
Tom: We're inspired by all sorts of different bands as well. And, you hear it said a lot but a lot of great artists steal from other great artists and that's how they become great, so we're taking influences from people that we all listen to. So this is why it's hard whenever anybody asks “so what kind of genre of music do you play?” I can never really answer that because it’s changing all the time.
Jack: But I was saying to Bill the other day, (he's not officially in the band yet but he kind of is. He's the drummer who played with us on Monday) we've never really spoken about what genre we want to write. We didn't speak about influences, particularly.
Tom: We're just going with ideas. We all have our own little pockets of interest that we bring to the table and I think that’s what makes out sound quite unique
Alex: When someone brings something and then all of a sudden there's so many layers on top of it, which are coming from all kinds of different directions. And it's just hard to put your finger on what it actually is. But it's cool and we like it.

CS: It seems as though COVID restrictions are kind of mostly lifted here in England. At least, concerts are happening again. What's that been like, through the pandemic till now, and being able to play live shows again?
Tom: It’s been a massive relief, really, it means that we can get out there and get some gigging experience, start playing our stuff live. It's a completely different beast to be in the studio, it’s a completely different skill to have. And the more we do it, the more we’ll improve, and the more people will respond well to our gigs. There is such a massive impact from a live gig that you don't get from sitting down and putting your headphones in and listening to the Spotify track. You get the performance, you get the live engagement with music, and with the people on stage. That's just palpable.
CS: Since you're all performers, you're all actors, how do you think your other stage experience impacts your music?
Jack: That's an interesting one. Because I think the three of us are definitely coming out of acting and want to follow music, solely. Obviously, Tom, you both really well. [Laughter] And Nuwan’s also still following both. It's just something that when we are playing live, and it's going well, and there aren’t any technical issues, that we can just give ourselves completely to that moment. And I think that's easier for someone who has trained to do that, which is kind of what we did at drama school, I guess, to give yourself to the moment,
Tom: Yeah, there are great artists and performers, actors, musicians who haven't haven't gone through a formal training process. I think it's actually more important than training. Personally, I find the two things very different, being onstage as a member of Sleep Walking Animals and being on stage or on screen and being an actor in a role. I think the only similarity for me really, is the fact that when we go on stage as Sleep Walking Animals, I feel myself put on a character. I'm not Tom, I’m whatever else that is.
Jack: John. [Laughter]
Tom: I think we all do that whether we realize it or not. Because we'd be crippled with anxiety and insecurity and all the other horrid things that sort of flood into you when you're onstage performing in any way, you know, those don't happen or they sort of diminish if you put on that guise. So I guess that helps in that sort of transition.

CS: You mentioned Farm Fest a bit earlier. What was it and how did it come about? And how was it?
Tom: So Farm Fest is a new, upstart festival that myself and my girlfriend Lottie host and organized. It's on her childhood farm and it's something that Lottie had wanted to do for a long time, to use that land to provide a space for a festival, entertainment, camping. We started it a couple years ago. There was that little bit of time between lockdowns where we got a weird freedom in the summer of 2020 and people felt like it had kind of gone away. Luckily, we all collectively know a bunch of musicians and comedians. It started small and then this year, we did it again. We charged a bit more money for tickets, and we are getting bigger and better. It feels like it's sort of gaining a bit of momentum. And it was the highlight of our year, we got to perform on a mainstage with a great sound set up. For us it was a big crowd to play to who all knew the songs and were singing along. It felt like a real festival, right.
CS: You guys are pretty active on social media, at least on the Sleep Walking Animals account. You guys don't always take things super seriously, which I like. What’s your approach to using social media? What do you think of it?
Jack: I wish we didn't have to. I think we probably all do realize the importance of it because Instagram is pretty much the only way of promoting anything, which is so fucking sad. Yeah. And I thought today, because Joe and I are reading a book about Joy Division and the start of the punk scene stuff, and they didn't even have t-shirts, because they wanted to stick it to the man and that kind of thing. But you just can't do that now. It's just like times have changed and there’s so many bands and so many artists that you have to be on it. Like, it will only be a matter of time before we go on to TikTok.
Tom: As an unsigned band without management or label yet, you know, we're left to do it on our own. Like Jack said, it's our only way of letting people know about our music. We might as well try and enjoy it if we've got to do it.

CS: Now that the EP is out, what are your future plans for the band?
Tom: World domination?
Joe: Recording.
Tom: Yeah, more tunes. We've got quite a few unrecorded ones. Keep doing what we're doing, really, following the footsteps of the people and bands and artists who have inspired us. Just keep going with it and see what happens. We're not putting immense amounts of pressure on ourselves. We do it because we love it. We do it because we think our music is worth pursuing. Yeah. Just see where the wind takes us.
CS: And you've got a tour coming up in October.
Jack: Yeah, a UK tour. It’s a co-headlining tour with Polary and My Pet Fauxes. So we're playing in different cities and we're all sharing the headlines slot and supporting each other at the different venues.
Tom: The 17th of October we're playing Leeds at Oporto, then on the 18th at Dublin Castle in London, the 19th we’re in Bristol at Crofters Rights and then the 20th at Night & Day in Manchester.
CS: Good luck for those shows and again, congratulations on releasing your debut EP.

Anpanman: Apple Boy and Everyone's Hope (2014)
Introduction
Fox's primary free-to-use streaming service, Tubi, had announced that they would be picking up at least 10 of the Anpanman movies to be released in English and Spanish back last October, with them slated for a fall 2020 release. This never happened, so many fans of the Anpanman franchise that spoke native English or Spanish would have to wait a little longer for dubs of these movies to come out.
The delay of these movie dubs went unannounced, leading fans to speculate that the dub was either in limbo or just silently canceled. This was until the first of them was released on April 15, 2021, with no announcement, or even complete details on who is dubbing them or the cast list. This had fans believing for a short while that the dub had taken a bit longer to assure its quality, but as you will soon read, this was most likely not the case.
Naturally, fans were excited as this was the first time these movies would see an official dubbed release in the west. There were other dubs of the franchise in English and Spanish, such as an English dub of the television series made for India that aired on Pogo, and a Spanish made in Spain sometime in the 1990s. However, these dubs are hard to come by and there are no official ways to watch these dubs in North America, as far as I'm aware.
Promo for the Indian Pogo dub posted by @doraedoramichan2021 on YouTube: https://youtu.be/oxAx5EEdX_4
So now we have an official dub of one of the movies that can be watched at no charge with ads. Joy!

Plot synopsis (spoilers below)
Tumblr media
The plot starts with Dokin (spelled as "Dokeen" in the dub) and Horrorman (dubbed as "Horror") as they read a book of fairy tales, landing on Snow White. They end up accidentally releasing a shadowy figure from the book as it flies off into the darkness.
Meanwhile, Melonpanna's and Creampanda's (spelled "Cream Panda" in the dub) class are making sketches of the ocean. This is where Baikinman comes in to cause trouble for them with his giant crab robot. Anpanman rushes in from the blue to beat the tar out of Baikinman to save the day as the theme song plays in the background.
After that, we cut to the movie's other titular character, Apple Boy, attempting to fly his hot air balloon over the ocean. After the balloon falls to the ocean, he is swept away by the current.
A whale finds him dehydrated and floating lifeless in the ocean, where he gives him to Anpanman so he can help. After offering a piece of his anpan head to Apple Boy, he takes him to Uncle Jam's bakery, where Uncle Jam and Batako let him stay while they wait for a new shipment of apples from SL-Man.
Back at Baikinman's lair, he discovers that the book of fairy tales was being read by Dokeen and Horror. Looking very worried, he explains to the two of them that he was told never to open that book.
Anpanman, Melonpanna, and Cream Panda find SL-Man with the apples, Baikinman comes by to ruin the apples with his giant caterpillar robot. After Anpanman slows him down, Melonpanna and Cream Panda take SL-Man to the bakery.
Uncle Jam and Batako receive the apples and make them into apple juice. They give the juice to Apple Boy which he quickly drinks and rejuvenates from.
As Anpanman is still fighting Baikinman, Melonpanna and Cream Panda come back with Apple Boy for assistance. Apple Boy ends up beating him by planting an instantly-growing apple seed on the robot's tongue, where Anpanman then punches him into the next time zone.
That evening at the bakery, Apple Boy explains to the crew, with Shokupanman (dubbed as Bread-head Man) and Currypanman there as well, that he needs his balloon to search for the fabled magic apple seeds that can apparently grow the biggest apples anyone has ever seen. Anpanman, Mellonpanna, and Cream Panda help him search for the tree that gives off the magic seeds, while Bread-head Man and Currypanman search for the Apple Balloon. With no luck in finding the tree, they return to the bakery.
As the heroes in the bakery are setting off to find Appleina, an apple girl who might have clues as to where one can find the magic seeds, Horror informs Baikinman and Dokeen of the whole situation through a mock TV newscast.
Once at Appleina's, she shows the crew (and by extension the young audience this movie caters to) how to grow large apples. After many hardships of growing the trees, they finally blossom. Just as they are admiring their hard work, a bunch of bats swoop in and suck the life out of all the other apple trees around them. Unrelated to this, Baikinman attempts to steal all the apples for himself.
At this point, the bats go together to form the wich from the Snow White book that Dokeen and Horror were reading at the beginning of the film, revealing that she was the shadowy figure at the beginning of the movie that escaped from the book.
The witch turns everyone into moldy apples for no other reason than she is evil. The only ones left standing are Apple Boy and Appleina. Uncle Jam and Batako rush to bake Anpanman a new anpan head so he can turn back from apple form and be powered up enough to beat the witch. However, the witch destroys the Anpanman Blimp's oven, meaning they can't bake the head. Apple Boy stuns the witch with the power of a magic apple that he ended up growing. This also bakes the cold head into a perfectly cooked one, giving Uncle Jam and Batako the chance to turn Anpanman back to normal.
They successfully do this and Anpanman beats the witch back into the storybook, as the movie ends and everyone sings about apples.
My opinions
Before you say it, I am fully aware this movie is made for young children, but that is no excuse not to have a quality movie in my opinion. If anything, kids deserve more good content so they can learn and remember seeing that content for years to come. It just makes me feel bad for these children who watch movies that don't have much substance purely because they are "made for children."
The movie itself
The movie is average at best, and boring at worst. I did type out a pretty large plot synopsis for this movie, making it sound like a lot, but there really was not as much as you would think. This movie is only 46 minutes in total too, so there really should have been more here. Like, there was some emotional stuff going on with Apple Boy back on the Apple Planet he came from, but it's never really relevant to the story, nor the series as a whole because of him being made for this movie and only this movie. The movie also has a surprising amount of filler. Like, the part where I briefly mention Anpanman looking for the tree is a montage in the movie that lasts about two minutes, along with a scene where Apple Boy falls off a cliff, which is also not relevant to the main plot. I want to say a good quarter of this movie in total was filler, so we only have about 33 minutes of actual plot.
The writing that is there is also broken. I believe that the most entertaining part about this series is the series villains, Baikinman, Dokeen, and Horror. They don't make too many appearances in this movie to serve as comic relief, rather, Baikinman feels shoved in here to serve as more padding to make that over-40-minute time slot. There are also parts of the movie that make absolutely no sense under any perspective, not just an outsider's. Like, why does giving Anpanman a new head suddenly transform him from a moldy apple back to normal?
Overall, I feel as though both adults and children would be bored to death by this movie. 3/10.
Dubbing quality
If the movie itself wasn't soleless enough, the dubbing somehow makes this worse.
The movie was dubbed by Macias Group, a Florida-based studio that is best known for dubbing English shows into Spanish but does have some English dubbing in their catalog.
Tumblr media
They had hired voice actors that I have not even heard of, nor do I think anyone else has. This doesn't make the dubbing automatically bad, in fact, a no-name cast can be quite good if given the right direction. However, this cast I feel did not give enough life to the characters. Some characters sound fine, like Horror or Dokeen, but others sound like the actor is struggling to put on a good performance, like Baikinman.
The characters also tend to speak in a way I like to call "Dora the Explorer Syndrome." It's kind of hard to explain what this is over text, but characters will talk extremely slowly for the young children, along with sounding considerably condescending. Watch the first two minutes of a Dora episode and compare it to this movie and you'll hear what I mean.
The voice acting itself sounds a bit bland and flat, almost like the actors didn't really care for their roles and were just doing it for a small paycheck. I don't blame them, really. An obscure series that they most likely haven't even heard of streaming exclusively on an unpopular streaming service most likely won't pay too high certainly wouldn't get me motivated. To do something like this, it needs to pay high enough or be on a service where it will get more notoriety, and most importantly, the people need to have a passion for the project and voice acting in general, neither of which sounded like they were here. I also heard a bit of recording echo, but I'm going to chalk that up to the actors recording at home rather than a booth due to COVID restrictions. If the dub had a bit more heart, then I probably would have liked it that much more.
I feel as though some of the name changes could have been better. Like some were unnecessary like Dokin to Dokeen or Horrorman to Horror, but things like Baikinman and Anpanman were kept the same, which probably needed the most explanation to an English audience.
The iconic songs from the Japanese version were also translated to English, which is a rarity in 2021 dubbing land. However, the songs sound off from their Japanese counterparts. If you were to listen to the theme song (https://youtu.be/3qSiSWTJkzw) or the closing song (https://youtu.be/c4DY7xmLlQI), you hear that they are bouncy, happy, and catchy. The English versions sound a bit off-beat to the rhythm these songs are supposed to be in. Now, I don't mind if the rhythm is a bit different so it can be optimized to the English language better, but here, it's so off it makes the songs sound worse. Most likely, the singers were given no direction and only listened to the Japanese version a few times. Not only that, but the lyrics are nearly directly translated from Japanese, also messing with the flow of the songs. When listening to the Japanese musical tracks, it almost makes you wonder what could have been.
Overall, the dubbing is not too good and probably could have done better either with a different cast with more motivation, or a whole 'nother studio behind the wheel.
Final thoughts and other recommendations
If you do want another English dub of Anpanman that I think is miles better, watch the fandub by Thomas Blue on Fandubbers Unite, starring myself as Anpanman (renamed to Bean-bun Man) and @clwsblog as Baikinman (renamed to Cavity Creep). It has better writing, better acting, and better songs. Both kids and adults alike will enjoy this version. Before you ask me, no, there is no bias here. I truly believe we did it better and for no pay!
Here is a link to Thomas Blue's dub:

If you really want to watch the official English though, even after my warnings, then go ahead. Here's a link to the Tubi listing:
