I made kind of a programming block of family/parenthood-type series around Spy x Family -- sandwiching it between eps of Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting and Deaimon -- because I didn't want to go through SpyFam too fast, but those series only had 12 eps each, and there's still a cour of SpyFam left. D:
Sweetness and Lightning isn't on Crunchyroll anymore, and I don't feel like rewatching Buddy Daddies.
Migi & Dali thumbnail looks like it has a horror feel? The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch - looks ecchi?
A Galaxy Next Door and The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons feel like they'd go together, but I'm tempted to put a third series that's about making manga in there.

My idea for this is, first, to give myself something fun and unique to do that would have an element of surprise to it. It could also be viewed sort of as a gift, of an experience. From either myself or from you, which makes the poll element and the possibility that I won't know what I'll be encouraged to watch helpful to the experience.
Most of these are shows I've been meaning to watch, plucked out of my to watch eventually pile. The exceptions are Diebuster and Flip Flappers, which were added as a whim and which I've watched a few times before.

I'm watching anime from last year [Yuusha, Yamemasu]
My thoughts on Yuusha, Yamemasu (I'm Quitting Heroing). This anime has grabbed my attention so fast just from the writing, the character interactions, and the whole concept of: what happens when your own only role in this world is to be a hero and nothing else. Where does the hero go beyond that?
Leo's backstory is very interesting to me, and it's a concept I do not see very often but it is a concept I am very familiar with. There is a character from one of the Disgaea games that has a very similar backstory, I will not say which disgaea game it is, because it will spoil that one plot twist. I respect how Leo communicates with Echidna and her generals, he literally talks like the ideal co-worker.
Throughout the episodes while interacting with these generals and Echidna, there is a lot of talking while getting to know each other. It's almost like a therapy session, he notices this when he talks to Mernes. As someone who is stuck at a job with a dysfunctional workplace. The way he teaches Mernes to better communicate is very relatable. Whenever I work with people that are anti-social, I never give them a rough time and also understand, they just don't like talking a lot. And that's okay.
I completely understand how Leo thinks and handles it very well. There are certain coworkers that I admire and respect. I enjoy nice conversations and sometimes, if they feel comfortable. They will tell me what's on their mind. I never make them uncomfortable or force them to talk to me, I ask if they are comfortable talking about it and most of the time they say, yes. Because there is that sense of trust, trust is earned over time.
This was Leo's main goal when he decided to work for Echidna. Watching him earn their trust was very interesting to watch and also a learning experience for him. This is an example of good character growth and how it's written very nicely.
Overall, this anime has been a very interesting experience and I have already looked into the manga. It’s rare for an anime to remind you of your own experience or past experiences. Usually anime is just bonkers or off the wall nonsense, and that’s to be expected. The usual troupes are there but as long as the troupes are well written, it's not an issue for me. I do also enjoy watching That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, so I see a lot of similarities with both of these shows.

I'm watching the chapter black arc of yu yu hakusho today and like two decades since I first saw it, it is STILL the perfect anime arc to me. beautifully painted backgrounds and lighting. the vibe of "we just beat the biggest thing and now what?" cool powers. witty writing. perfect.

Danny Phantom, The Show:
geeky kid gets super powers from his parents' weird inventions! now he has to fight a rogue gallery of ghosts... but uh-oh! he still has to keep his grades up, deal with his embarrassing parents, and navigate girl troubles! rap theme song!
Danny Phantom, the Fandom, After 19 Years of Fermentation:
a child dies. but not quite. the inherent tension between life and death. the obsession of the dead for faded remnants of the living. warped green shadows on the walls of a dark laboratory. having to hide your true nature from those who should be your greatest allies. the fear of the monster you could become if you let yourself. being a ghost as a metaphor for the trans experience. a cold breath on the back of your neck in the dead of the night. rap theme song!
