In 1934 there were pogroms against Jews in Turkey and Algeria.

Other parts of my family were lucky enough to survive the 1929 Hebron massacre during the 1929 Palestine riots. [Mandatory Palestine under British administration]

In 1919, soldiers marched into the center of town accompanied by a military band and engaged in atrocities under the slogan: "Kill the Jews, and save the Ukraine." They were ordered to save the ammunition in the process and use only lances and bayonets during the Proskurov pogrom.

You know, my grandma's arab. I still remember sitting in class in high school, hearing about the 1840 Damascus affair, and thinking: hu.

I'll skip several years and countries, but:

Their grandparents were there to witness as the outbreak of violence against Jews (Hep-Hep riots) occurred at the beginning of the 19th century.

The 1821 Odessa pogroms marked the beginning of the 19th century pogroms in Tsarist Russia

That's  Khmelnytsky Uprising of 1648–1657 in present-day Ukraine.

So they said, during the attacks against Jews also took place in Barcelona and other Catalan cities during the massacre of 1391.

Their ancestors were cast away and murdered in Spain, 1492.

The same way we were banished and cast away from  Bern (1427) and Zürich (1436) for almost 400 years?

Let us not speak of  the alaughter on Holy Saturday of 1389, a pogrom began in Prague that led to the burning of the Jewish quarter, the killing of many Jews, and the suicide of many Jews trapped in the main synagogue; the number of dead was estimated at 400–500 men, women, and children.

Or - do you want to hear about the 510 jewish communities that were destroyed? (1348-1350)  including in Toulon, Erfurt, Basel, Aragon, Flanders[16][17] and Strasbourg.[18]

Some of them made it to England, around 1060. It took less than 30 years for the first Podrom in 1189-90 in England, 

Oh, and let us not forget 1066 Granada massacre [again, in Spain].

Or the  Alexandria in the year 38 CE, followed by the more known riot of 66 CE.

The Jewish population of the land on the eve of the first major Jewish rebellion [66 CE] may have been as high as 2.2 million. The monumental architecture of this period indicates a high level of prosperity.

In 66 CE, the Jews of Judea rose in revolt against Rome, sparking the First Jewish–Roman War. The reverse seized control of Judea and named their new kingdom "Israel"

The revolt was crushed by the Roman emperors Vespasian and Titus. The Romans destroyed much of the Temple in Jerusalem and took as punitive tribute the Menorah and other Temple artifacts back to Rome. Josephus writes that 1,100,000 Jews perished during the revolt, while a further 97,000 were taken captive. The Fiscus Judaicus was instituted by the Empire as part of reparations.

And those are only those I found out about. Only those we have a record of. Only those we know to this day. They were so massive, or left enough impact so we still remember.

Updated Masterlist of Writing and Art

About the writer/artist: I like to write and paint. My current obsession is Sandman, but I enjoy most fantasy fandoms as well as anime (I think I’m on season seven billion of One Piece right now 🤣). I'm also weird as they come (and awkward, too), so just please ignore my oddball (coughTERRIBLEcough) sense of humor.

On a more personal note, I have PTSD and suffer from severe manic depressive episodes. Writing and art are my most familiar coping mechanisms, and I need them like I need oxygen. Seriously, there were times in my life that knowing I had to finish a story or a piece of art was the only thing stopping me from ending up dead. So, I don't take part in fandom drama. Having my peace and protecting my mental health are very big deals to me, and I won't risk those for anything if I can help it.

As for my writing, it ranges from short one-shots to ridiculously long novel series. I use third person POV (on longer series) as well as second person (on shorter things). I also try to always exclude physical descriptions when writing main character OCs and assign them nicknames to avoid using Y/N. I love to read Y/N fics, but writing them makes me feel like I'm at work. And who actually wants to ever feel like they're at work when they're engaging in a hobby? Definitely not me.

Lastly, there's usually more stuff on my AO3 page than I have listed here, because I forget to post it pretty often. Oops. I'll get around to moving it all over one day. Probably. Maybe.

Sometimes He's Sweet

Morpheus hates the holidays.

As excited as she seems to experience the mortal holiday, he's… less so. Much less so. With the entire collective unconscious contained within him, this time of year can be wholly overwhelming, a miasma of too much red and green, too much worry, too much loneliness, too much excitement, too many similarly themed dreams, too many similarly themed nightmares, and far far too many holiday songs. It all bleeds out from the collective unconscious into his own mind, sticks there like weeping sap to a tree until he feels half-mad with the unrelenting presence of it, with his inability to get free from its cloying trespass upon his very being.

This is just a little sweet fluff for the holiday season. It takes place between chapters 19 and 20 of "All the Precious and Fragile Things". No spoilers here if you've read that far!

That Familiar Feeling of Family (or how Hob Gadling ended up as an uncle to his stranger's oftentimes feral children)

It's a pretty universally known thing that families are just strange. As Hob is quickly figuring out, however, this little fact is magnified by AT LEAST a billion when the family in question is Endless.

(A lighthearted story in which Hob Gadling finds out his stranger has married, makes friends with a homicidal maniac/ruler, and manages to become an exemplary uncle to a pack of magically mischievous children. Really, now all he has to do is convince everyone to stop calling his and Dream's weekly meetups "playdates", and then his life would be practically perfect.)

Meanwhile in the peace of the Dreaming, Morpheus grapples with guilt over his son's fate. As he basks in the love of his new children, he can't help but to regret his own failings where Orpheus is concerned.

And as for May, she's really just got a job to do. And her own traumatic issues to deal with. And if it's all hella awkward because she's having to work alongside her husband's ex-wife, she'll see it done anyway. There's even the small possibility that she might eventually admit to Calliope the truth about her identity. That is if she can ever actually work up the courage to say it aloud.

What was Namor's childhood like?

For the most part Princess Fen ensured Namor would have the best childhood she could give him. Fen loved her son, but many Atlanteans and even her own father, Emperor Tha-Korr hated Namor. Tha-Korr would not kill Namor because he was born of Royal Blood but he made his life hell in other ways.

In the golden age Fen gives birth to Namor in the royal dungeon because her father was angry with her for marrying Leonard and helping him escape, but because Namor was a boy, Emperor Tha-korr decided to let her and him live but to punish Fen for disobeying him he banishes her from the city and she can only return when Namor is ten years old.

Byrrah would often have plots to have Namor banished or blamed for things, and he was a coward who would abandon Namor whenever they were playing in places they shouldn’t have been, which lead to Namor getting trapped or hurt.

Death was inescapable in Erin Nichols’ childhood—growing up in a funeral home would do that to a person—and it lingered in every nook and cranny of even her earliest memories. She knew that the fancy, expensive urns nobody ever bought were excellent for hiding things, cemeteries were not appropriate places to practice cartwheels, and that under no condition was she allowed downstairs during business hours. Until, of course, she inevitably did. Tearful, somber strangers dressed in black confused a very young Erin. Why was everyone crying? The man in the memorial picture was fine. He was sitting in a chair right next to his wife. Why couldn’t they see he was fine? Death was an ending, her parents taught her. Their job was to help families say goodbye to their loved ones. Dying was the most human thing a person would ever do. It didn’t have to be scary and the Nichols’ did everything in their power to normalize this for their daughter. But when their daughter began to not only see but speak to the descendants brought to the funeral in increasing frequency, everything they’d taught her went right out the window. 

With the best intentions, before Erin was 6 years old, she’d been taken to the best doctors and therapists in Maine to figure out what was going on in that little brain of hers. Her parents hoped with every visit that there would be some sort of solvable explanation for what she was seeing. Jack and Diane were both natives to Wicked's Rest and knew very well about the mysterious reputation this town held. When the insurance ran dry and they still had no answers, other than that they had a very healthy young girl, their worst fears were no longer deniable. Their daughter could see and speak with ghosts. They could manage this, right? And they did, for a little while. Most of the ghosts were friendly, from what their daughter told them. But not all of them were. The man in the suit scared her, and for months, lingered around the funeral home with a foreboding presence, growing more intense with time. No. Enough was enough for Jack, and he reached out until he found someone who could help them. Erin deserved a normal life and he was going to make that happen. 

A well-established exorcist was brought to the home, banishing the spirits dwelling within and coached the Nichols’ on how to keep them from entering. And for a long time, the house was quiet again. Erin’s new friends were gone but she wasn’t scared anymore, and it wasn’t long until she’d forgotten about them completely. Once she was old enough to truly appreciate what her parents did for a living, she decided to go to college and join the family business. She wanted to help people too. It wasn’t until Erin moved out, against her parents’ wishes, that the visions started happening again. It seemed normal at first. Lost looking souls who had a staring problem. They wouldn’t go away. Some of them even pleaded for her help. Erin thought she was losing her mind and expressed this much to her parents. And then one day, just as suddenly as it started, it stopped again. There was still the odd occurrence over the years but for the most part Erin lived relatively unbothered by her “hallucinations” thanks to her parents’ interference behind the scenes.

The day her father died was one of the worst days of Erin’s life. Grappling with her own grief, she moved back into the funeral home with her mother to help both her and the business. And at first, she thought it was the grief and exhaustion but no–her father wasn’t just in the corner of her vision on bad days. He was standing there like one of her hallucinations, explaining to her that he was real. What she was seeing was real. And everything she had ever seen in the past was also real. It was her gift, he explained, and it seemed he couldn’t pass without owning up to his mistakes as a father, as well-intended as they might have been. It was the last time she ever saw her father but it was the start of a very long, very overdue conversation with her mother.

Character Facts:

Personality: Empathetic, naïve, loner, anxious, hard-working, pragmatic, compassionate

She’s been prone to intense anxiety thanks to what she thought were “hallucinations” for most of her life. She also has a deeply embedded fear of ghosts and doesn’t remember most of the interactions she had with them as a child.

Despite growing up in Wicked's Rest, she doesn’t know or doesn’t believe in most supernatural things. 

Most of what she’s learned around mediums and communicating with spirits she’s learned from the internet or Youtube. This is all mostly incorrect but she’s found that keeping salt on her at all times is helpful for when things become too much to handle.

While she’s worked for her father for most of her professional career, she has recently taken over full control of the family’s funeral home following his death.

Who is David Haller? | A Reading Guide

David Haller is the son of Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Gabrielle Haller (the Israeli Ambassador to the UK) though neither Charles nor David would be aware of their relation to each other until after the founding of the New Mutants. While David was living in Paris with his mother and step-father, the home was the target of an Antisemitic attack that resulted in David’s step-father dying in front of him. The resulting trauma triggered David’s latent psionic powers but also fractured his mind resulting in the creation of many alters. 

David is at his core a loving and gentle person, who struggles with his powers, his father’s legacy, and with his mental health. David is canonically autistic along with being what is possibly the strongest omega level mutant in the Marvel Universe. The full scope of his powers are incredibly complicated and for that I’ll link to the fandom wiki here. If you’re looking for the official Marvel Character Closeup for him you can find that here.

David’s first canonical appearances really set the stage for the character- and are part of the acclaimed Claremont run of the New Mutants. I highly recommend starting with these first appearances to gain a better sense of the character before moving on.

For those familiar with the FX show Legion (which is frankly a HORRIBLE depiction of David Haller), you will already be familiar with the main antagonist in David’s next major appearances, which take place during the Muir Island crossover event, where the X-Men battle the Shadow King. This event leaves David in a catatonic state that even Professor X cannot pull him from. This saga is extremely important for understanding both David’s trauma and the fears and anxieties other have about David. Definitely a must read. I’ve included here both the lead-up to the Muir Island saga and the official crossover event itself.

David next takes center stage in the lead up to one of the classic X-Men events, The Age of Apocalypse. The Legion Quest crossover event begins with David receiving intense medical care in the hopes that he’ll awaken from his catatonic state, but pushed on by Destiny, David awakens and pushes forward, grappling with his father’s legacy and eventually travelling back in time in an attempt to prevent the rift between the Brotherhood and the X-Men. David’s actions resulted in the alternate timeline “Age of Apocalypse” which is rectified by Bishop siphoning David’s powers to create a psionic-loop, the power from which was enough to damage David to the point he was presumed dead. This arc is one of the most important reads for this character.

David next appears in an arc known as the “Return of Legion” in New Mutants (2009)- where it’s revealed that rather than dying during Legion Quest, David had instead been banished to a place called “no-time.” This arc highlights David’s gentle nature while also showcasing the very real dangers posed by his mutation as one half of the New Mutants must fight David’s body, while the others enter his mind to try to rescue both him and a little girl named Marci from the darkness within David’s own mind.

David’s next highlighted in X-Men: Legacy, where David’s desire to be loved forces him to grapple with reality.

After that he’s next seen in X-Men: Age of X, there is some crossover in this event from the X-Men: Legacy issues I recommended immediately before this, but honestly I’d put Age of X as a must read as it places David in a role where he has to choose between a false universe where he is considered a beloved hero and reality where he must choose to be a hero despite the fear others feel about him.

Avengers vs. X-Men

Once you’ve acquired the context from Avengers vs. X-Men you’ll want to move on to X-men: Legacy (2013)- which chronicles David’s struggles to overcome his past and to preserve his goal of gentleness and love. 

X-Men: Legacy (2013) #1-24 (this is what’s collected in the Legion Omnibus)

Uncanny X-Men (2019) otherwise known as X-Men: Disassembled has... a lot of issues in its writing of Nate Grey and particularly in its writing of Magneto. While I would NOT recommend this arc in terms of a general X-Men comic recommendation, I am recommending it for David specifically because it shows his desperation to help, as well as his consistent dismissal and mistreatment from the X-Men. This comic is not without its issues and my full review of it can be found here. 

Uncanny X-Men (2019) #1-10

Moving on to the Krakoa era- the following comics take great pains to not only provide David’s character with depth, but also to address many of the issues inherent in the Krakoan system. These are absolute must-reads and provide some incredible insight into David and Charles’ father-son dynamic, and the implications of that dynamic within the context of the Krakoan resurrection protocols.

AITA for betraying my beloved by following the orders?

This story is quite old, so there’s not much I can do now to fix anything. I just wanted to get this off my chest before I do anything hasty.

I (centuries, ??, at the time of the story 38, F) was a part of a small military force. Most people would call us “heroes”, because, well, that fit what we did - which was quite literally protecting the galaxy. Our group was small - just me and my friends N (44NB at the time of the story, unsure if they’re still alive by now), M (unsure of age now AND back then, also NB) and G (31M at the time of the story, don’t think he aged - I’ll explain later). Despite being the youngest, G was the undisputed leader of our little group. We started this gig at a relatively young age, so me, G and N were basically kids (don’t know about M, it joined later), so by the time this story happened, we already garnered some reputation and experience.

The experience that was not quite enough when dealing with our last task - saving our progenitor deity.

You see, the deity (let’s call it V for now) is the only way for our species to procreate. As in, we’re literally brought into existence by it. So if anything were to happen to it, our species would be doomed. So, it was brought to our attention that V has contracted some sort of infection - some foreign organism was parasitizing on it, and knowing how exactly V creates our kind, the people who “hired” us were worried what it would create by trying to get rid of the parasite by itself. We were tasked to remove and contain the parasite, but in the process V ended up hurt severely anyways and essentially went into a coma. 

G was devastated by the deed we’ve done - between us four he was the closest to V, so he saw the result of our mission as his personal failure. He responded by lashing out in anger at the people who ordered that mission (they were NOT of our kind, so he and our people supposed it was a deliberate sabotage), which essentially started a war between our kind and the ones who we served.

This is when I was approached by one of the order that we worked for. They told me that G was a traitor to our mission, and I had to dispose of him, preferably fatally. They also told me that the rest of the team received the same order, and if I refused, someone else, who’d care less about G, would carry it out.

The problem was, I… was in love with G at the time. I couldn’t bear hurting him myself, but I couldn't bear thinking of someone else hurting him and me doing nothing either. And at that point I was (probably the only one who still was) loyal to that particular order, so with a heavy heart I complied.

…Somewhat complied. I approached him, he refused to stand down, we fought, I mustered all the courage I had, but still could not land a killing blow. So instead of killing him, as was ordered, I channeled magic with his own weapons and turned his sealing crystal spell against him.

Now, I fully understand what the order was trying to do. They tried to cease the war by taking out one of the most influential figures, but that failed. The war continued until the order was banished to the edge of the galaxy, but that cost us our home planet, too. My friends have met the revelation of the order’s and mine betrayal with difficulty, as well. N realized that if G was hunted down, then they might be next, and left without saying a word, leaving his weapon behind. And M… it told me that I’m not actually a member of our species, and killed me to reveal that.

And today I live in hiding, only known as a traitor for my (former) kind, if known at all. G went down in history as a legendary unbeatable hero, the strongest warrior in the galaxy, but I know of our failures. I know the real reason he was sealed. And all I can think of is it being my fault.

I don't know if I've ever sent this track, but it remains one of my favorites in Ninjago, my favorite part is 2:49, the build-up with the drums reminds me of another track I adore with all my heart, "Lloyd's Flashbacks/Banishing Garmadon", with its build-up at 1:38.

To me, it kinda signifies how this is the Garmadon who chose to banish all the love he could possibly have because the "Banishing Garmadon" build-up and the "Garmadon's True Potential" build-up are so similar.

Then again idk I dig into Ninjago soundtracks for fun to find "thematic similarities" or something like that.

Second Chance (Future!Leo x Kalani) Part 2

Author’s notes: These are all Consenting Adults ranging from mid 20′s to late 30′s. MINORS DO NOT INTERACT! This is a 21+ blog and I do intend to bring some NSFW content.

Future!Leo is about 38, Kalani is 26. If you don’t like the age gap... tough noogies, I’m keeping it this way bwah ha ha! Now onward!

Shifting in her perch next to Raph and April, Kalani watched as Casey and Cassandra infiltrated the warehouse where The Foot and Purple Dragons were organized. With her hands twitching with anticipation and shoulders tight, she was ready to take down the bad guys and keep the Krang in the prison dimension for many years to come.

"A'ight, everyone in position?" Raph called through the intercom through his wrappings.

"Purple Knight in position." Donnie called back, hovering over the main hatch of the roof.

"All set, Raph." Mikey replied as he was already inside but hidden from prying eyes.

"Good, once we have the signal. We swoop in like heroes and stop them from bringing back the Krang. We don't need another attack." Raph stated before closing the comm and letting out a slow breath.

Kalani glanced over to him and noticed his right eye closed. The scar and pain that she had seen. He was partially blind in his eye. But Donnie helped with making a contact lense to correct any issues with his vision. He wasn’t wearing it. She knew it. But instead of berating, Kalani laid a hand on his knee causing him to look over to her hand and smile slightly.

"I'm a'ight, Kal. Don't you worry. Raph ain't gonna let them win." He reassured her, flashing a sharp smile.

April sniggered quietly as she watched the former couple. But before she could say anything to make it awkward, a bright flash came from inside the warehouse causing Donnie and Mikey to jump into action. Kalani and Raph looked over and their attitudes changed to a more stony expression as they leapt from the rooftop they were perched on and landed next to the entrance that Donnie went through. Grabbing his sai's Raph looked over to Kalani which she had her Tessen's in hand. With a nod from the Kappa, Raph took the lead as they both came through the door and leapt off the platform and into the thick of the fight.

Kalani looked for the Alchemist and saw that he was finishing a transmutation and working in summoning the portal. Speed stepping towards the Alchemist, she threw three kunai knives in his direction causing the porcupine yokai to yelp and jump out of the way in time.

"It's over, Dante!" Kalani hissed as she ran her foot over the chalk lines, successfully destroying the circles.

But the alchemist merely smirked and chuckled darkly. "You think so?"

Before she could question his own words, the feeling of sharp prongs pierced her skin and electrocuted her causing her to scream in agony. The water in her cap sloshing and spreading across her body only caused her more pain. The prongs, biting into her skin, pulled and twisted her into knots.

"KALANI!" Raph roared as he punched two Foot Clansmen and charged to save her.

But was thwarted by a large brute and fought back and captured by the brute. Raph soon realized that it was a cyborg Foot Clan. Holding him and the others in binds. The sound of laughter echoed into the air as the Purple Dragons and Baxter revealed themselves from their own perch.

"Well, well, well. Looks like Dante was right. The entire family comes to save the day. And we got the perfect specimen to help unlock the Prison Dimension. Thanks to Miss Kalani." Baxter smiled wickedly.

"Kono baka! Anata wa futatabi watashitachi no sekai ni shi o motarasu dakedesu!" Kalani barked in Japanese only to have Kendra snark.

"Not without the right tools, freak."

As Dante walked over, he kneeled down and caressed her cheek only to have Kalani spit in his eye.

"No wonder you were banished from the Hidden City! Betray your own kind and destroy all of humanity and the yokai kind."

Grabbing a fistful of her hair, Dante glared at her. "At least you'll be with your dead lover sooner than later." He chuckled darkly and cut into her art with one sharp cut of his quill.

Pressing his thumb into her open wound Kalani screamed in agony. Using her blood to redraw the circle and lend a sample to Baxter who took the vual and placed it into a large computer. As the vial slid into the machine, a large gate emerged from the floor below to reveal a gateway. Every one of the Hamato clan gawked in shock. Memories of what had happened before, flashed before their eyes. Dante, along with the help from the technology began the ritual and the gate began to come alive. Kalani's own blood, which held her mystic abilities of alchemy, was being used to open the gate. She was the sacrifice.

"NO!" Raph roared.

But the pur like chirping caught his attention as something fluffy landed on his head. Looking up and seeing the cyborg look with great confusion, Mayhem had arrived! Teleporting Raph away and next to someone else he wasn't expecting either.

"You should have listened to me about this plan, Red One." Baron Draxum exclaimed as he watched in rage.

"When the hell did ya get here?!" Raph exclaimed but was taken back to the present moment from Kalani's screams rang through the air once more.

The others had somehow found a way to escape their binds as well and began to fight back to rescue their sister and close the gate once again.

"Now is not the time! We must shut the gate and save Kalani before she is gone." Draxum explained before he and Raph charged into the fight.

Punching his way through with no care on how severe he was injuring the Foot, Raph made it to Kalani while Draxum fought Dante away from the circle. Tearing the prongs and cords that held her in place were torn to shreds, causing more harm than good on her skin. But he wanted her safe and being chaotic and destructive was the fastest right now. He knew he was going to apologize profusely later. It was a given. Cradelling Kalani to his plasteron, Raph got her away from the heat of it and laid her on the ground where she was in pain, but still alert with her surroundings.

"Easy, girl." He reassured her as she began to sit up.

Donnie flew over to them both and began to assess her injuries with his goggles that scanned her over. "We need to stop the portal. Their tech is using Kalani's blood sample and mystic abilities to help power the alchemy and open the portal."

"We know that, Don. But how!?" Raph growled as he saw Draxum, Casey, Mikey and April fight the foot.

Kalani sat up finally and looked over to Dante who was struggling to get to the circle with Draxum fighting him back. Then it dawned on her.

"Donnie, you think you can take down Kendra?" She asked.

"Are you doubting my abilities? Scoff!" The soft-shelled brother rolled his eyes.

"Fine, if you can take her down Raph and I will take care of the circle and the gate." Kalani added as she slowly got to her feet.

Raph helped her and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Ya sure it'll work?" 

Kalani didn't answer, but grabbed the katanas that she had strapped across her back and gripped them tight. "Stay close. We only have one shot, Red."

With a firm nod, Raph kept his hand on her back as Kalani summoned the sword's teleporting ability to life. With expert precision, she threw the other katana right on top of the alchemy circle where she and Raph ran into and landed back into the action. Donnie had rocketed himself to Kendra who was at the main control pad along with Baxter. Landing in the middle of the circle the gate came to life.

"Raph, take out the gate! I'll create a counter for this!" Kalani ordered as she swept her foot in one large circle, cutting off the power from the alchemy.

Dante saw what was going on and screamed in rage. "You Bitch!"

With the blade of the katana, Kalani cut into the earth a new pattern to shut the gate. But it wasn’t fast enough as a powerful blast pushed everyone onto their backsides. Kalani quickly scrambled to her feet and pressed her palms onto the alchemy circle.

"DO IT NOW!!!!" Kalani roared.

Raph activated his Power Smash Jutsu and expanded in size. But another, more powerful wave came through the gate once again sending everyone up and away from it all. Kalani flew backwards and hit a nearby panel that broke the gate's main power system. With a bright flash and loud explosion, the gate was destroyed but someone came through.

As the dust began to settle, Kalani slowly got to her feet and grabbed her katanas and was ready to fight. But her eyes landed on someone she was not expecting to see ever again. The blue carapace. A single large katana. Scars and damage on his skin. And one large mechanical arm on his right arm.

"It can't be…"

(That’s Iphi on the left, Jack on the right. First is a picrew, second isn’t my art but like. I haven’t drawn Jack yet so that’s kinda their ref for now)

But it is rant time!! Imma start with Iphi! Because I kinda need to explain her to give context for Jack’s lore. 

So Iphi is the god of sacrifice in this little fantasy world I made, Kunyang! She’s a pretty old god, a couple of thousand years old, but she’s still the second youngest one lol.

In Kunyang, gods are born when they sprout from the seeds of the god tree. The god tree is in the divine realm, which is a different realm entirely from the physical realm, but very rarely, a god seed can arrive in the physical realm.

Anyways, this seed fell into the hands of a very magically powerful person. They had magic potential that could honestly rival a god- and yeah, they believed they were destined for great things because of it. So, they were determined to be the person who caused the god seed to sprout.

So in Kunyang, there was once this library called the Archives, run by the god of knowledge himself, Ephius. This person went to Ephius, and they were told that the seed was for the god of sacrifice. Ephius told the person that to sprout a god seed, they’d need sacrifices from thousands of people. This person wanted to do it, all by themself.

And so, they sacrificed everything. Family, friends, fortune, and fame. All gone, in the hopes of making a legacy. The seed did not sprout, because it wasn’t enough. So this person decided that they would need to make a very big sacrifice, one big enough to make the seed sprout.

They decided to banish the Archives from the physical realm into the divine realm, sacrificing humanity’s access to the library of all knowledge. And that was indeed a big enough sacrifice to give birth to a new god!

And that’s how Iphi was created. But the thing is- that’s really not how you’re supposed to create a god. So she was kind of corrupted from birth. This corruption prevented her from having a lot of character traits that one might consider important to being human.

Iphi does not feel happiness, or satisfaction. No sorrow or regret. Nothing of that sort. But she is working towards a goal: and that is creating a legacy. Having an effect on the world. (Her only contributor to her creation imprinted heavily on her.)

And because of that, she is very active in all manners of sacrifice. Every day, she’s constantly getting people to make sacrifices to her, amassing followers in many different lands. This also increases her powers heavily.

The way her powers work, they’re kinda like payment based. She gets someone to sacrifice something for her, and she can create something else of equal value to that something. (The more important that something was to the person who sacrificed it, the more she can create and do.) Like, she could make a giant wall of fire, or acid rain, or bury a country in gold if she had enough magic. Which she absolutely does. But she mostly saves the magic potential she receives for later.

And also, Iphi doesn’t truly care about anything other than making a mark on the world. She doesn’t mind if people die or suffer because her sacrifices took something too important- if anything, she wants to do that, because it’s quite a way of making your mark on the world.

Oh, and I gotta add- she can’t do this all without a little help! And that’s where Jack comes in.

They’re also a couple thousand years old, but quite younger than Iphi. So they used to be a court jester. Mortal and everything. They should have had a life of a normal length, be just another person in the world, but then they fell in love with Iphi.

And yeah they’re aromantic! It’s not romantic love, it’s alterous love. But yeah they felt a deep emotional attraction, and they wanted to be in a relationship (not a romantic or platonic one though). Anyways, Iphi doesn’t feel the same way. She doesn’t love Jack. But she thought it was convenient to have someone in love with her, and to keep them around, so she offered Jack a sacrifice.

She’d give them eternity, and they would be her servant.

Jack honestly didn’t want to do that at first, but then they had a near-death experience, and agreed to her terms.

So Iphi took their physical body, and also their independence.

Because it would be inconvenient if her servant got bored or wanted to take back the sacrifice. So Jack quite literally cannot think unless she wills it. They’re barely conscious until Iphi needs them, and only then can they think again.

Jack isn’t even aware this happens. To them, it feels like they just woke up, or they just simply forgot what happened during that time

Iphi also messed with Jack’s mind a bit, to amplify their devotion. And yeah, Jack is completely, utterly devoted to her. They would die for her, they’d be tortured for her, they would kill for her too. Nothing is off the table. They’d do anything she says. And they truly love her.

Jack mostly stays in the divine realm, usually, until Iphi sends them to the physical realm to do something for her. That something is usually extorting people to get more sacrifices. Jack pretty much curses people, and then offers to remove that curse in exchange for a sacrifice. (That’s how Janessa got cursed, actually [have I talked about her?] but Jack forgot they cursed her lmao.)

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 37: Sidekick is kidnapped (part 2)

Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80s or ‘90s syndicated cartoon! Last time I looked at the instances when Sonic’s sidekick was an individual kidnap victim, but today I’ll be looking at instances when he was captured as part of a group instead of by himself. Buckle in, because this is going to be a long one.

First up is Sonic #11’s story, “Beat the Clock!” We had a rare appearance in this story of Coconuts from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, who kidnapped Tails, Sally, Antoine and Rotor, and wired them to blow up. Bunnie was notably absent, which was unfortunately very common in these early issues. Interestingly, Coconuts seemed self-aware enough to know he probably wouldn’t beat Sonic - he just wanted to last long enough in a fight against him to make it onto Robotnik’s “Top 10” list.

Look at that, Sonic the Hedgehog was setting the trend for top 10 lists all the way back in 1994! Anyway, Sonic got there in the nick of time despite the maze that delayed his progress…

…and managed to free the Freedom Fighters before the explosives went off, destroying Coconuts’ clock and his plan. Better luck next time, monkey boy.

Two issues later was Sonic #13, which contained the Sonic 3 adaptation and first appearance of a certain someone that Ken Penders would become obsessed with. Sonic and Tails came across the floating island for the first time and had their plane knocked out of the sky when they decided to investigate.

Encountering many traps and deadly robots, Sonic and Tails unwisely decided to retreat into the waters of Hydro City and nearly drowned. When they woke up they found themselves tied up and at the mercy of… I’ll give you three guesses.

Did you guess Knuckles the Echidna? Congratulations, go get yourself a cookie. If not, then instead you must banish yourself to the Isle of Shame for all eternity. 😛

Next was Sonic #16, where Robotnik ambushed the Freedom Fighters with sleeping gas and imprisoned them all in VR. Sonic managed to figure out what was going on though, and manipulated Robotnik’s own virtual reality space to free them all. 

Then there was Sonic #23, which I already mentioned in a previous post, where the Freedom Fighters, Robotnik, and Snively were all captured by an alien scientist who wanted to study their behaviour. After that came Sonic #29, where a plan to temporarily roboticise Sally and then turn that power against Robotnik backfired, resulting in the rest of the team being captured and nearly roboticised themselves.

Dulcy managed to save their butts at the last second that time. 

One I almost forgot was the Knuckles’ Chaotix special, where Robotnik managed to trap the Freedom Fighters in a carnival hall of mirrors, paving the way for Knuckles to put together his own resistance team.

Another one I’ve also previously mentioned is Sonic #38, where all the Freedom Fighters except for Sonic got captured by Robotnik’s combots, and once again, were nearly roboticised. 

There was also the Endgame arc in issues #47 - 50, where Tails was captured along with Rotor and the other inhabitants of Knothole when Robotnik came knocking at their own front door. Tails and Rotor did manage to get away from the guards and try to escape in their sea vehicles, but didn’t count on Drago of the Wolf Pack being a spy for Robotnik.

Fortunately Sonic showed up with Knuckles and Geoffrey St. John to liberate Knothole at that point.

Sonic and Tails (along with Knuckles) got captured by Mammoth Mogul at the end of Knuckles #9 when he stole Dimitri’s power (another story I’ve talked about in a previous post), and then only a couple of issues later in Sonic #58, Sonic and Tails were again taken prisoner. This time they had run afoul of the High Sherriff of Snottingham, who had mistaken Sonic for his archer lookalike, Rob o’ the Hedge.

Sonic was freed by the echidna Yanar who had also been imprisoned, when he attacked the guard and managed to steal the keys. Sonic then went on to free Tails, who he found in the middle of a… questionable interrogation.

…yeeeeeeeah. 

Let's move on.

Right after that in Sonic #59, Sonic and Tails were kidnapped again, this time by the physics defying Al and Cal, who decided to warp Sonic and Tails’ minds and have them fight for their own amusement.

Next in issue #62 (wow, Sonic and Tails got captured a lot while they were chasing Ixis Naugus) when Sonic and Tails crash-landed on the outskirts of Sandblast City. They found that the locals idolised Sonic for defeating Dr. Robotnik and inspiring them to do the same to their own local warlord. In fact, the locals liked Sonic so much that they refused to let him leave, and in the end the only way Sonic and Tails could escape was to destroy the shield that was keeping them in and the hostile robots out.

Sonic would have to live with the consequences of that day for many issues to come.

Sonic #75 is another one I’ve already talked about a little - the disbanded Freedom Fighters went into space to investigate the satellites that had been terrorising the planet and were captured by Robo-Robotnik. It was Snively who freed them this time, as he wanted to escape before Robo-Robotnik roboticised him too, and needed their help to get off the space station.

For our next example we have to travel back to the future, for Sonic #166 - 167’s conclusion to “Mobius 25 Years Later.” Sonic had previously gone back in time to try and stop the planet from exploding, and while he had been successful it had come at a heavy personal cost. He’d written himself out of the timeline and in doing so, erased his marriage to Sally and their two children from existence. With Sonic being gone and the kingdom needing stability, Sally had married Shadow, who went from being a tyricanal vigilante to a tyrannical dictator king. When “Miles” started conspiring with Sonic and Lara-Su to oust King Shadow, they were immediately arrested by Shadow’s enforcer, Knuckles. However this turned out to just be a fake-out to get the three of them into the castle undetected, and Knuckles later freed them from the dungeon.

Speeding back into the present, Tails was once again kidnapped for the purposes of using his super state as a living battery in Sonic #168. Eggman’s AI, A.D.A.M., had been plotting behind Eggman’s back for awhile, and he finally launched his master plan into action. As this involves a character I want to talk about again in a later episode I won’t go into too much detail, but A.D.A.M.’s plan was to use Turbo Tails’ and Super Shadow’s power to get his hands on the bajillions of Chaos Emeralds spread across the universe. Surprisingly, it was Eggman who freed them this time, as he realised it was the only way to stop the AI that had turned on him.

Tails finally got a decent break between kidnappings again - it was about four years in real time between Sonic #168 and Sonic Universe #13. After the Iron Dominion captured New Mobotropolis, Sonic, Tails, Sally and Monkey Khan travelled to Khan’s homeland, the Dragon Kingdom, to try and convince the four ninja clans making up the Iron Queen’s army to break away from her. One of those clans, the Gossamer clan, abducted Tails, Sally and Khan pretty much as soon as they got there. It turns out the the Bride of the Gossamer clan had wanted to speak with them, but wasn’t sure that they would come to her willingly. 

The next time Tails was kidnapped as part of a group is a non-canon story that took place in Sonic #242. Taking place “In another time and another place,” this story was mostly to promote the latest Mario & Sonic at the Olympics video game at the time, London 2012. Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot disguised themselves as coaches and sabotaged the equipment, allowing Eggman to take all of Sonic’s friends captive when they tried to compete in various events. Tails and Shadow got captured by large Caterkillers when they were doing the long-jump. Sonic had to compete in all the events against Metal Sonic to free everyone.

Finally, we have come to the Worlds Collide crossover with Mega Man. Once again almost all of Sonic’s friends were kidnapped by Dr Eggman and Dr Wily, and transformed into the roboticised masters. Tails was their first victim, getting a very unpleasant housecall from Metal Sonic and Bass.

After being tricked into fighting each other Sonic and Mega Man put their differences aside and managed to defeat Tails Man in battle, with Mega Man managing to turn him back into normal Tails by copying his weapon data.

Whew, that was a lot of kidnappings. Poor Tails, it’s little wonder he’s gotten traumatised in stories like Sonic Forces, because he has been through a lot. Are there any other kidnappings I missed? 38. For some reason, four people meet up at a playground late at night

It almost felt supernatural. It was a full moon and there was this fog around.

Ámbar walked up to the monkey bars. Someone in black hoodie was already there. She knew who.

"Stop playing spooky, Ramiro."

Ramiro did a flip, landing with both feet on the ground.

"Wow, if you made that good of a move in roller skating, we'd be a thousand times better."

"Why do you think I'm practicing it now?" he replied.

Emilia suddenly raced down from the slide.

"Dammit, I thought it would be a cooler entrance," she sighed. "Anyway, is he here yet?"

"Always late as usual," Ámbar sighed.

"He's probably trying to make a cool entrance himself," Ramiro added.

Suddenly, they heard someone howling like a wolf, and that someone skated up to them in a rapid speed.

"Wooh!" Benicio howled, "What's up, Red Sharks? Middle of the night practice, let's go!"

"Yes..." Emilia said, crossing her arms.

"Wait, where's your skates?"

"Benicio..." Ámbar said, "How do I put this...?"

"You're fired," Ramiro said sharply.

Benicio laughed in a mocking way. "What?"

"We can't have you anymore," Emilia said, "You're out."

"You're kidding! Good joke!"

"No, we're serious," Ámbar said.

"Ha ha! No you're not. If you are, then I'll talk to Gary."

"We've already talked to Gary, and he agrees."

"We actually have it recorded," Ramiro said and held up his phone. There was a video showing Gary, looking at the camera.

"Benicio, if you're seeing this video, you are out. I don't want you in my team anymore."

"That's fake!" Benicio argued.

"Oh, don't make us do this the hard way," Ámbar sighed. She then walked up to him. Immediately, Benicio started make some flirty noises, which made her scoff. Emilia and Ramiro also walked up. With smirks, they all said in a teasing tone:

"Bye-bye, Benicio."

They then pushed him, making him roll backwards down a steep part of the walkway, so it was harder for him to just stop the rolling.

There would be a chance he'd skate back up, so they decided to leave.

"Let's crash at my place," Ámbar said, "My bed is big enough for two. Also, there's a cozy armchair."

"I love cozy armchairs!" Ramiro exclaimed, "Promise you two won't just smooch in Ámbar's bed, though."

"We can't promise anything," Emilia said.

"I'm so glad to have Benicio's banishment done with," Ámbar said, "We should meet up in the middle of the night more often."

"Yeah, it's cozy."

She/her. A 19 year old fish person raised by an elderly fishmonger on an isolated island. This adventure is her first time leaving her grandmother, and somehow she’s the most competent of the five anyway.

Mercenaire / Seven of Wands (challenge, protection, perseverance)

He/him. A 38 year old one-armed mercenary with a protective streak a miles wide. Standing at 6′11 feet, he’s considered tiny for the clan of giant dragon worshipers from which he was banished. Believes himself to be cursed to bring bad luck and death to those who hear his name and see his face. Completely face blind. A dad and a friend!

Zarïa ‘Juvisy’ / Justice reversed (dishonesty, unaccountability, unfairness)

She/her. The 19 year old runaway princess of a recently overthrown kingdom. She’s vain, hates men, loves money, and is constantly running away from the consequences of her own actions, from lying about her real name to hiring Mercenaire to protect her and then sending guards after him when his price ended up too high and he took all her money. Currently spying on Oriû on behalf of people who would much rather see him dead.

Oriû, son of Galat / Judgement (judgement, rebirth, inner calling, absolution)

He/him. A 25 year old rebel from the people that Zarïa’s kind has been oppressing for over a century. A poet with a strong sense of right and wrong, he’d like to be nonviolent but will not stand idle in the face of injustice. The rebellion he’s a part of is directly responsible for the death of Zarïa’s family — but they’re not aware of that yet. Ménéhyl accidentally killed his brother with her newfound powers but he’s being a good sport about it.
