so i know the second shot is primarily of kenny and his reaction to levi's question, but

this was right after levi asked kenny why he left him when he was a kid.

you can see in the first shot when he finds out kenny's his uncle, he's looking straight at him, but by the next frame as he's asking why kenny left, he averted his gaze and looked away

but who gives a shit, kat? why are you freaking out about him looking in a different direction?

but he's not just looking in a different direction. he averted his gaze because of the weight of the question and the weight of the reality that is going to hit him no matter what kenny answers with.

he is talking with the man that took him in right as his mother died. no matter how kenny was as a parent figure, the lingering thought of "why was i abandoned" would undoubtedly run through levi's mind, even if its not at the forefront.

yes, he begins to lose everyone around him from the start of the series. but he's been losing people even before that. he's lost and lost and continues to lose. and it literally makes my heart ache when i think about it.

that's the thing that i love about levi and his portrayal throughout the series. this man conveys his emotions through his actions, facial expressions, body language, and small mannerisms that can commonly go unnoticed.

it's why most of my drabbles don't have much dialogue from him. or why they consistently point to his gaze and whether he is looking at the reader or not. or his body posture slightly tensing or relaxing. he's not one to communicate his emotions with words, he probably doesn't even know how to describe them. but he will convey them through his mannerisms, habits, and actions.

and i just love that about him.

FIGURING SOME SHIT OUT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!

So we should be focusing more on how to use all of the ideas in cohesion with eachother #than to just think of them as their own inseparable laws of which you can only use one at a time #because that's... not how it works. on paper? sure. in real situations? no #i can use consequentialism on paper all day long. in real life you need to mix that with intent vs impact #bc it's never just ONE that will determine the morality of an action #i'm rambling now but idk i have a lot of thoughts and no way to organize them into coherence #there's a reason that I always went over word counts in my papers and essays lol #like. how the hell do I explore the intricacies of ANY topic in 600-1k words? #bc there's exceptions and what-ifs! #this is my issue. i overthink everything #and end up on ten tangents about some random side topic that only barely relates #example: me talking about essay word counts on the post where i want to talk about a pokemon episode name ldjhskjfhdj #i have so much to say all the time. is all of it worthwhile? probably not but it's there

If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.

But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.

The Ghost distribution system... He really is like a stray cat, or a bear that learns minivans have food in them, he just keeps coming back no matter how many times you try to send him on his way. It doesn't matter how it happens but any scrap of kindness and he just determines he's going to attach himself to you.

Maybe he offers you a hand moving your couch when he passes your place and hears you swearing. You offer him dinner and Ghost has never been the sort to turn down a free meal, so he sticks around. It's weird that he doesn't even pretend to refuse, just takes you up on it immediately and even offers to help cook. You send him home and he's... there again the next day, waiting on your doorstep with a box of pasta asking if you could do anything with it. He's going to come back, he's going to keep coming back.

Maybe it's from meeting you at a bar. He's the biggest guy you can grab when your ex walks in, and somehow he seems approachable despite... well, everything about him. Fake boyfriend for a few hours at the bar is one thing, having him show up the next day to fix your sink because you mentioned offhandedly that it was leaking the night before is another. Having him sit in your kitchen and peal an orange for you because you said you were hungry is really driving home that this guy isn't leaving.

Hell maybe it's just a one night stand that never seems to end. You wake up and Ghost has already made breakfast. The two of you sit at your little table and eat quietly, Ghost scrolling his phone while you eye him warily, trying to figure out his game. He asks what you want to do today and somehow you can't find the right way to ask when he's planning on going home. He just sort of moves in, you realize he's printed a key for himself while you're grabbing groceries. It's nice he offers to pay, but you don't know when having him around became your normal.

Ghost sees you, he wants you, you're his. He's not leaving, he'll come back. He knows that this house has food and warmth, he knows that families forget to tie their trash up off the ground. He's a man of instinct, and you are going to be his perfect match.

I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."

I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.

Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.

Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

I always wondered why they don't nickname Chilchuck to "Chil". Because Chilchuck is quite a long name, it's way easier calling him just Chil. And then this.

It's all the opposite of how it would normally work. Usually, people call each other by their first (or second sometimes) names, but when they're called by the full thing... it means either nothing good is happening, or they're being called in a formal way.

Isn't imposible to think that the party actually called him Chil, since it's his first name and a nice nickname for him. In fact, they probably did, and Chilchuck told them they shouldn't call him that and explained why. They stopped calling him Chil, and accepted calling him Chilchuck for the rest of their lifes, apparently. Actually, we don't see anybody calling him like that until...

Laios tries to get his attention with something that normally would. Calling him his first name, something that he told them specifically not to do doesn't even makes him flinch. And then he's sure that Chilchuck is out of it and proceeds to intervene.

It's such a subtle detail, I don't remember if they call him "Chil" on other panels, if they do, reblog with evidence so we have all the oficial Chil moments here.
