A MILD GLIMPSE AT LAENOR AND RHAENYRA.

I do find their dynamic in episode 6 and 7 very interesting, but the first time I watched the show, I did not get what was being communicated between them. Her words to him felt wrong and different with every conversation, and I didn't know why I didn't believe it when the events of episode 7 happened, but I think I do now.

A few things, Laenor does do his duty. They both hold up their end of the bargain it's just unwillingly on his end by the end.

From the start, Laenor is mourning Joffrey in their marriage. That's how it happens. Shortly after, based on age, Jace is conceived with Harwin.

A lot of assumptions seem to be that Laenor and Rhaenyra weren't trying, but I don't think that's it. It seems more likely that they did, and Rhaenyra went after Ser Harwin either way. Because Laenor is being forced to do his duty, I can't imagine him disregarding it. Especially if the deleted scenes are being taken into consideration, but another thing is that Harwin isn't some politically correct decision.

People act as though in the first year of their marriage Rhaenyra needed to be pregnant, but that's not true. It just happened, and I don't see the pregnancy carrying out without some possibility of Jace being Laenor’s, with all eyes on them. The issue was never Laenor not doing his duty. It was that there was no joy in it. Rhaenyra found that with Ser Harwin. That's actual show dialogue.

Laenor in the show doesn't go to Driftmark. In no conversation does it seem as though he has that break from court life. The strength of being a Velayron is taken from him with no noble house Velayron men at the Keep or him being able to go back and prepare himself for his role as heir. This is a world building issue. But also isolated him to the Red Keep unwillingly, it seems.

Then we consider that he cares for Rhaenyra. Ten years later, and he's telling her, "Let's go back, stop making the show of Alicent commands, this is dangerous you're in pain." She disregards him, which is the first of many times we see.

After he's called a cuckold by Alicent, Rhaenyra makes sure he's aware of her dislike of the name Joffrey or him choosing it. I think that scene perfectly analyses their dynamic.

Rhaenyra doesn't like it, Laenor defends it, and she disregards it with something else that's irrelevant in that context. He's playing his role, naming their child, being there at the birth like a happy father would be waiting to meet him, walking with his wife to the king, publicly but quietly doting on her health and taking everything said against him because that is his son but that's not enough for her because in this moment she's upset with him for nsming Joffrey and Alicent.

We see this play out with the "our sons," "are they insinuations" dialogue, and reinforced.

Laenor wants to go to the Stepstones, unaware of the fighting taking place. She says rumours follow their sons, and he asks if they are rumours. This shows his disconnect from the situation at hand. Even a small joke, she discredits from him rightfully but is still isolating for him from their reality. Then, the worst lines from Rhaenyra come out. And I don't know why these are often ignored, but they're based on the characterization of her in her adult years of wanting everything at the cost of nothing because of her position.

She blames Laenor for not being there for them, uses his sexuality and the agreement they had to do so and then makes him stay at her side when he doesn't want to because she thinks it's good for appearances not taking anything he's saying into consideration.

Then we find out that Laenor writes to Laena all the time, it seems because Daemon doesn't want to go back, and Rhaenyra doesn't let Laenor leave. Laenor being restless has been his way, but she kept him at her side. And then Laena dies, and he's crushed.

This is after Rhaenyra finally decides that they can leave for Dragonstone, which is away from all the questions of court, tells him he can bring Quarl and doesn't let him make the decision. We see how upset he is before she tells him of that. Laenor seems to find out about losing Laena on Dragonstone.

Laena is gone, and he's reeling from her loss. He's in the water trying to be near her, grieving. He's getting drunk and can't perform his role, being accosted by Corlys (I know it's Quarl but context clues) for it and is in no position to do anything. He's lost the one person who would be happy for him with this change, the person who he keeps in contact with ten years later. He's distraught.

And Rhaenyra’s conclusion, although based on the fact that she's lost Ser Harwin, is to say he'll be useless to her now.

She sleeps with Daemon, which I won't get into because it doesn't matter right now, but two conversations happen. We see Laenor get drunk, and in Quarl's attempt to go fix his spirits, be completely unaware of the whole Driftmark fight, Rhaenyra sleeping with Daemon or what has occurred with Vhagar and Aemond.

Laenors words to her are I should've been there. I didn't protect Laena, I did not protect you, and there is no comfort. She tells him to sit. They have this conversation, which is his apologies while grieving for his failing and her saying he's a good man with a good heart.

The condition of Laenor in this scene is heartbreaking because of what happens next. He's lost Laena. He's trying to do right by his family, recommiting himself to them, and she suggests he fake kill himself and escape with Quarl. He's confronting their past mistake of thinking that love and marriage are mutually exclusive and knowing his lover is being sent away and that Harwin is dead dedicates himself to Rhaenyra and their boys, wanting to be a family.

But because of Daemon, that's a long gone possibility for her. It's not for him. We don't get to see her, or Daemon or Quarl suggest Laenor leaving, but based on their relationship in the last episodes, he'd simply agree if she said it, reluctantly so.

can u explain the concept of the death of the author? i understand there is always more than angle to approach and interpret things from anyways and people dont have to agree fully. but like how does this make sense in fandoms? so far in my experience in mxtx fandoms i feel like it is used dismissively to justify a person’s headcanons or misinterpretations or misrepresentations of the text or characters or romance. obv the author doesn’t control the text once it is published but ti imply like you know better about their characters or text when they write tight narratives like mxtx seems kinda weird to me lol

Well, from what I can preface what this means is simply: a literary theory that argues that the meaning of a text is not determined by the author's intention, but rather by the reader's interpretation.

Authorial intent and theme establishment is irrelevant here, in theory it relies on what the reader feels it means and is reader-centric in practice. The text of the work is not the point, it is what it makes me, the reader, feel about the execution of plot device and what I think it is about from a personal perception and what my final interpretation of it is as a whole regardless of textual passage thematics and authorial intent for why this is written the way it had been.

Now, I'm not a fan of this literary theory. It's pretty much my most disliked literary analysis approach since there is little point in trying to argue that one personal reaction is relevant next to the other come time for example and author intention that can and will dismiss what I may have unintentionally assumed, and still choose to despite it having no concrete basis from the text itself.

This has been twisted in fandom space, especially within the past 20 years now to mean, I do not like this or care about author end goal and will use death of the author to claim textual validity (or hey no textual basis because impulse first) that is not or has no merit other than my personal want and feelings.

I can argue for something nebulous as thinking Madam Yu did care about Wei Wuxian, because I may want to see her reactions as parental due to personal experiences, but we are not given this within the work nor is it ever implied. But I can choose to say death of the author here, because my personal interpretation/experience tells me it is so. This also veers into ship discourse, the author straight out will say no other men in book are romantically involved and do not feel romantic inclination, but, I think there is chemistry and sexual tensions within their interactions, therefore my interpretation trumps that of author intent due to my assumption.

My personal interpretation is above that of author meaning of thematics they wanted to explore. My unintended themes I see are most important. I see something here that the author didn't want or need to explore for the work, therefore I can sit in a nebulous space that works for fandom exploration. This gets tricky when the fandom interpretation starts to run counter productive to the work itself, as with the likes of Jiang Cheng. He is not meant to be a good role model or a positive position by author intent, but fandom can begin to carve him into something that is not intentional and death of the author begins. The death of the author interpretations become popular while running counter point to the original intention and it begins to be argued from the start the death of the author theory was meant all along despite the contrary.

Well, I have never seen any Zverev praise on tumblr since I joined (which was after the accusations got widely publicised) but maybe it exists on blogs I don't interact with. What you're right about is that Novak certainly doesn't appear to be the worst person in the ATP, quite the contrary. Among other things, he has founded an organisation for player's rights + interests that should really have existed long ago (seeing as they are all self-employed) and seems to be genuinely interested in improving things for the players who come after him. He also helps lots of young players, especially from Serbia, financially. That kind of thing is not going to convince anyone who dislikes him because dislikes are hardly very rational, but I think it should at least be enough for people to be as civil about the guy as they are about other players and not make this fandom space hostile for Novak fans, many of whom have reached out to me in the DMs or as you did on anon to say that they don't want the drama on their own blog but are happy that I am speaking about this. Just today I talked to a friend who told me they might take themselves off tumblr for 2 weeks, however the semifinal and final go, because in all cases there will be Novak hate: gleeful hate if he loses, bitter hate if he wins. It's a shame, but at the moment it's like that.

i am SO fond of my witch in the well au. the connection was between witch!lying and witchcraft smp being, well, witches. the basic concept was one of the witchcrafters accidentally summons/awakens an old power, which freed lying from the well. originally it was actually going to be scott who freed them, by trying and failing to contact an ancient power, but then joey literally fell into a well. and that was just too poetic to ignore. i think lying was going to be a fear witch specifically.

something something slapfight between the fear witch trying to intimidate and cleo's refusal to be scared. cleo doesn't tend to overestimate themself, so how well that slapfight goes for her depends on if she realizes it won't go well for her and plays cautious or if she leans in to the slapfight and sees what lying is capable of. if it's the latter, they probably get taken out of commission long enough to preserve the critical mistake moment for others. lying, to cleo, seems a little like a jokey thing and there's a significant chance she underestimates them.

part of what makes cleo and lying's interaction/slapfight so interesting is both of them spec'd into defense and retaliation instead of offense, meaning there's a tense waiting period to see who strikes first. there might be social tension because witch!cleo and lying the witch are similar, but cleo has friendly allies and lying has only the hesitant alliance with joey. that could be dug into and inspected closely for good plot points.

another angle that was discussed was cleo, being the time witch, may have met other lyings/at least be aware of them, giving her a reason to be wary. if she has, then she probably plays cautious, and during the crux of the intimidation slapfight she makes an escape. she honestly may have been friends with other lyings in other timelines!

and, tbh, from what ive seen and heard of lyings in general, they are mostly posturing and intimidation. witch!lying has gotten their ass kicked both times ive seen an actual fight (priest!lying, maid!lying, for example). they have a lot of defensive power but there's not much to back up that posturing. in contrast, cleo is closer to 70% posturing, but has power to back that up. the witch is scary and smart, but cleo is on a server with a bunch of maniacs who kill each other for fun (civil war, house war, demise, turf war, whatever the hell season 8 was, tag, decked out 1 & 2, demise 2, etc) where the witch was on a server where folks killed in self defense or to settle scores. this means the way they approach conflict differs!

Ok since i'm neck deep into Shang-chi craze i just want to point out that for all its amazing potential, this movie missed one thing and it's an exploration Xialing and Wenwu's relationship.

Asian daughters are not ignored to nonexistence. We interacted with our fathers. It's just that when it comes to important stuff like serious family matters, we are never involved. As a result, conversations with our fathers usually involve annoying things like physical appearances and marriages.

Here is what should be understood; most Asian dads, especially traditional ones at that, dont know what to do when they have daughters. With sons, the purpose is clear; an heir, a successor, someone to pass the torch to. With daughters, they're not sure. Asian family emphasizes a lot on roles; fathers are to protect, mothers are to nurture, sons are to continue. But daughters are a grey area, and for some reason thousands of years of civilization had yet to manage roles for daughters that are not just a preparation for their future role as mothers.

Contrary to popular belief, i don't really believe Wenwu is outwardly sexist i.e. discriminative to his daughter. He fell in love with a woman who could kick his ass, for fuck's sake. He gave up everything to be with her and followed their vows through until she died--men don't behave like this when they think women are inherently an object. Wenwu doesn't see women as objects, or if he did he saw them the same way he saw men were in the context of his ongoing rampage and colonialization.

Instead, i think at his core Wenwu is afraid. He might not be outwardly sexist, but he is a traditional man, and when he had a daughter i think the instinct to protect is even bigger than when he had Shangqi. Not because he loved one of them more, but because Xialing is a girl, and in his eyes girls are more vulnerable, more prominent to threats. He managed to interact properly with her in the first 4 years of her life because this assumption was never proven, but then Ying Li died and he couldn’t help but to think that his line of thinking is true.

So I believe that Xialing was prohibited from training for this very reason; for Wenwu, she was vulnerable. For Wenwu, She has to be protected. It adds salt to the wound that she has similar features to Ying Li, which only reminded him of how he failed to protect his family the first time.

Regarding the ignorance, I truly believe she wasn't forgotten, per say. Wenwu knew where she was, knew how her ring worked in order to infiltrate them (dramatically) properly. He puts enough attention to her to gain these updates. He probably watched her fight with Shang-chi and waited until they were done. He cares for her, just not outwardly the way he cared for Shangqi. Also, I do believe that he thought Xialing was capable, because not once did he interfere with her illegal ring fight thing up until 3 days before his death.

One occasion I can't help but to notice was the dinner table talk. When Wenwu droned Katy into his monologue, Xialing and Shangqi exchanged glances, made faces, rolled eyes, sighed in exaggeration. This wasn't the first time he did this, and he'd probably done it enough times for a.) Them to expect it and b.) Him to not be pissed at them for being dramatic about it. So I took it that dinner was still an occasion even after their mother died, and perhaps even after Shangqi left, but what used to be a platform to exchange each other's day turned into a one-man show where Wenwu drilled repetitive values to his children that they could probably repeat in their head word-per-word because he isn't creative and even 1000 years old warlord can run out of stories.

And interaction with children, with daughters, are usually like that; we're not conversing, we're listening. Dads don't usually know our interests, so they fall into old patterns of giving us unsolicited advices on life that's probably outdated. When it's over, they leave, thinking they've done their share of parenting when they haven't listened to us once. It's shitty and really disheartening, but that doesn't mean the care isn't there, or that there aren't other forms of care exhibited. Like, there is no way that Xialing has never opened the door to a platter of sliced fruit in front of her door. There is no way that she had never received a scolding when she fell and hurt herself. These, too, are interaction and care.

I would love to see more interaction between Wenwu and Xialing addressing this. She lived the longest with him, and they lived in one house. There is no way that he just kind of forgot she existed, and never talked to her once during those 12 years of sharing a space. I wish this movie portrays more implicit interactions between them, and finally addresses it in the final act. I wish Xialing, too, got the closure from her hurt. That would've made her Ten Rings takeover even sweeter.

a/n: Tk u! I'm still learning how to write for Albedo because he's a very complex character, so I hope I've been doing him justice. And this is the last event request!

Dragonspine is a place of secrets, a place of wonder and dangers alike. A place where even the everlasting snowfall cannot conceal the mysteries buried under its thick and pristine blanket even as eons passed.

It is a place not for those weak of heart and mind, but those with a wanderer's soul and a spark of curiosity that burns brighter than their fears will inevitably be drawn to this place like a haunting song.

There are few like that, and fewer still those who voluntary stay in this barren landscape in pursuit of answers to the most elusive questions regarding the world and its existence.

As such, Albedo has grown used to the silence accompanying him during these hours, when most are deep into the clutch of sleep, as he walks around the small camp engrossed in his work.

Nothing but the humming wind, the crackling of the fire and the occasional scribbling of pen on paper.

"Hello?" Albedo's eyes flicker to the entrance of the cave with lightning speed, his heart beating faster for a moment as his eyebrows furrow.

"Is anyone here?"

He decides not to answer less the person is one of those pesky Fatuis that loiter around Dragonspine. He remains in his position with his eyes on the mouth of the cave, but his Vision is glowing in preparation.

Sparkles gather in his hands as he readies to brandish his weapon at the sight of a silhouette, but they dissipate when he sees a very confused-looking you approaching very hesitantly.

"My apologies." You look just as taken aback as he is, almost jolting out of your skin as your eyes become impossibly wide. "I-I saw the fire, but I did not expect to see another human being here."

"No, it's quite alright, I was surprised as well." Albedo says while subtly giving you a once-over. He is certain he has never seen you in Mondstadt before, and you do not seem to wear the style of clothing that most people of Mondstadt wears. On the contrary, there's something foreign and almost ancient about your clothing, but he does not know enough about fashion to comment.

"Am I disturbing you? I can leave if you prefer."

Now that statement has him even more perplexed. No person with a sane mind would even think about walking around Dragonspine at this hour of night and even if they did, they would certainly not choose to venture back out to the cold when they saw a camp with a roaring fire. He knows he has a reputation of not being the best at interacting with people, but he is not about to turn you away.

"There's no need for that, you can come in and sit by the fire. I can prepare you a hot drink if you like."

"Thank you, but you do not have to worry about me. I just need a few minutes by the fire."

He nods and you glide into the seat, hands reaching out to feel the heat emanating from the flames. There are frostbites on your skin, and he wondered how long you were actually out in the cold, alone no less.

Albedo rarely ever have any guests coming to his workspace, so he is unsure of what to say or do during this moment. Should he leave you to your own devices? Or should he try to strike up a conversation with you and listen to the part in his brain that wants to know who you are and why you're here?

But you've already spoke up before he can reach a conclusion.

"Apologies, it has been a while since I interact with another person," you say sheepishly. "Frankly, I do not know what to say right now."

He almost breathes a sigh of relief. "I'm not the best at talking with others, too. I'm Albedo, Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius."

"The Knights of Favonius?" You tilt your head to one side as a confused look pass by your face, as if though you've never heard of that name before. "I see."

"And you?"

You lower your hands, and he sees the way your lips thinned as a hesitant look pass by your face.

"It's okay if you don't want to tell me," he reassures, not wanting to push you. "You can stay here for the night. I can set up a sleeping bag for you."

Albedo is just about to go get the bag for you when he hears your voice again.

"(Y/N)."

He turns to look at you, your face lowered while your eyes are trained on the fire. "My name is (Y/N)."

He tries to offer a smile. "That's a beautiful name. Let me go get the bag for you, you must be tired."

Albedo rustles behind the shelves, mind reeling from your strange behavior. There's something about you that he can't put a finger on, something forlorn about your whole countenance that makes him question just how long you've actually gone without human interaction.

(Not that he's human, but he digresses)

He finally takes out the sleeping bag and dusts it off. "I would like to apologize beforehand for any noise I'll be making. I still have work to do, so you can go to sleep whenever you want-"

His words are cut off when he returns to see no one by the fire, the seat that you once occupied now empty. He drops the bag and rushes out of the camp, his head whirling frantically around, but there's no sight of you. And there's no footprints on the snow either.

Albedo runs back inside, thinking maybe you're behind one of the shelves, but there is no trace of you. No mark or anything to prove that you were once here. Even the chair that you sat on has no warmth to it, as if though no one was ever there to begin with.

And he is alone, once more.

So I don't understand why everytime Sasuke is doing something nice for Sakura, it's considered romantic? Like Idk, Sasuke saving Sakura just so she won't get a concussion is romanticized. Him trying to show affection by thanking her is romantic. Giving her a hand to help her get up is romantic.. Anything that a regular teammate would do for the other in their case is romanticized..

Like, do they lack so much chemistry to the point that Sasuke addressing her by her name will be romantic?

Hello :) Well i think a lot of facts have to do wit this topic: 1) The fact that they are canon makes people believe that every interaction before the canon statement foreshadows their (non existent) relationship. So despite none of those interactions were meant to be romantic maybe, people, fans will see them as a foreshadowing hence will say all of that content was romantic. 2) The lack of content they have, in order for this canon pair to become well...canon, leads to their fans to see any (few) interaction they have as a romantic foreshadowing. They believe every interaction from them is Important to both relationship, but reality is that those moments were only meaningful for Sakura, not sasuke.

3) Well this is not only in naruto , but in a lot of medias that some people cannot see a friendship between a woman and a man and think everything leads to sexual/romantic desires. Also, this one is attached that many people believe all characters are straight until proven the contrary. For example, Tenten and Neji. They have beautiful and great friendship <3 I never shipped them, but if a relationship between these 2 were to happen we wouldnt be that surprised since they were very good friends. This is how a good friendship is portrayed ( and people tell me kishimoto does not know how to write romance- bonds -or women) But the deal is, A BIG PART of the fandom believed they were in love¿¿¿¿¿¿ Why? I dont know, just because they have , not even chemistry, but a good dynamic, dudebros believe they wanna tear off those clothes.

-Thre is this OVA in 3d crossed ways/paths. Where Sasuke saves Naruto and Sakura. He FIRST kicks naruto away so he doesnt get attacked by the enemy, and then he take sakura in his arms. Dudebros and SS fans were crazy because OMG HE TOOK HER IN HIS ARMS <3 <3<3<3 and ???? I mean, yeah you can see it as romantic but he also saved naruto. And also, she is A GIRL. Was other way to save her despite not taking her in his arms? Did they want him to kick her as with naruto? XD

4) Sasuke didnt interact that much with women, because he just didnt want to and the narrative didnt put him in that situation. So that Sakura is one of the few women he interacted with...well SS fans flies their imagination and headcanons. But they completely erase Karin lol

5) Concluding I think the main reason is the first one. The fact of being canon makes people see their "relationship" through another lens plus they have maybe 1 or 2 "romantic tropes" (which SNS wins in here ofc) so people will believe this is enough. But something is sure, Sakura and kakashi are somehow very irrelevant in Sasuke life. Sakura and Kakashi can be replaced by any other character and the feelings will be the same. Replace Sakura or erase her from his life and plot will remain almost intact. If we can take sakura away from Sasuke life, and the plot won't be affected by his pov, how important is she in the end? I ask SS fans to do this exercise.

he sighed and got up from his chair next to jake

DM LIFE

I did one of the harder aspects of being a DM today and told a player they had to leave my table.

And holy shit is the aftermath such a good feeling.

Heres the deal. This player has been increasingly problematic over the almost YEAR my little group has been playing. Off and on I've had trouble with most of my players in one form or another. And have managed to find a way in and out of game to shake things up enough for them that they break out of their bad habits enough that I can work more easily and better with them.

One player essentially copying a CR character almost exactly so I did more research on the race and mixed up their storyline a bit more so they had to be more creative and think more independently.

Another player prefers "Fey"-like PCs that play by traditionally fairy myth rules and is contrary as fuck and... well I am still working on this one but they're a good player and its forcing me to be more creative on how npcs and villainous creatures interact with them. IM GETTING THERE.

BUT THIS GUY. THIS FUCKING GUY.

He was a problem almost from session one. We went through two different character builds with him, he was hinting at wanting to change a THIRD time (which as a DM I'm fine with characters getting changed up, especially if their story comes to a natural end but not without reason).

His first character was a badly constructed Witcher self-insert character (Human Variant Mutagen Bloodhunter with a background that was VERY poorly constructed) that I dubbed Edgey Mc Edgerston.

I thought it was going to be fine because he was engaging and interested during session one. Almost LEADING the group. But as soon as he found out that the problem they were hunting in town wasn't a big gruesome monster to kill (smugglers and a druid controlling giant crabs to cover their smuggling activities) he shut down and stopped playing. And just... never really started playing again. He wouldn't talk to the other players. Wouldn't talk to NPCs. And when this first adventure came to an end and they were discussing continuing on the road together his first reaction was 'why should I? I dont really have a reason to'

The other players had to essentially beg him to join the adventuring party.

It was all downhill from there.

If any NPC tried to engage he brushed them off. He did the same with the other PCs. He was cruel to IMAGINARY ANIMALS.

Of course I checked in multiple times, tried to talk to him, tried to figure out what was wrong. He kept saying 'nothing, this is how my character is'

... fantastic.

So after 6 sessions of this he came to me and said 'I want to change characters' and I jumped at the chance cause I really felt like ANYTHING could be better than this.

His second character, an old man wizard. (Human Variant Wizard Scribe Order)

I was so excited for a fresh start and a change that I willing homebrewed a special kind of familiar for him and allowed him to use a focus instead of components. And to have a wholeass tiny home vardo. Anything.

And again for a session or two things were good again. He seemed like a nice old man, they were traveling so there wasn't alot to engage with.

But it didn't last. Very quickly he started to treat the other players badly again. Started to treat NPCs even worse, right on the border of racist and bigoted towards any that wasn't explicitly human. Even started to treat the other non-human characters that way. He would complain about how much his old character would have liked something. He never even researched his class and wouldn't add spells to his spell list then complained about not having any way to get new spells but lo and behold, he treated every magic user they crossed as inferior and refused to pay for spellbooks or supplies or bother to go through treasure to find any wayward magic books.

And GODS FORBID anyone slighted him or played a joke on him or disagreed with him. He would turn into a sulky child and slowly he engaged less and less. Ignored story hooks. Ignored treasure clearly meant for him. Never spoke unless someone spoke to him. And when he did he was rude and just AN ASS.

He's fucking TOXIC.

I tried over and over to talk to him. He wouldn't respond. I tried to talk to the other players, they would just hem and haw. I tried everything. I developed entire side quests that would have led to massive wizard hordes and wizard pocket plane libraries.

And when I tried to ask about it in group so he couldn't escape answering he would just say 'my character doesn't like that npc', 'my character doesn't think that was a good idea so he's not going to do it'...

"My character doesn't care."

More than once the other players in and out of character had to AGAIN beg him to stay with the group. More than once.

It was all getting to be too much. I wanted to quit. I wanted to stop DMing. I didn't want to deal with this guy anymore. I love this game. I love playing. I love DMing. I want to make a good game but it was making me miserable to a point that when I talked about it multiple people suggested I shut the campaign down.

It all came to a head a few weeks ago. I put on a really good session, even one that I for once in my life as a DM felt went really well and everyone seemed happy and excited. But as we were wrapping up my DMPC and another player made a joke about looking to a chocolate shop in the next town.

Old Wizard decided to try and make fun of the player and DMPC for wanting to have some fun. It devolved into a short in character fight right as the game had to end.

We had two weeks off and the other player told me he fully intended to confront Old Wizard about why he was there.

I honestly figured the fickle bastard was just going to quit after that. After all his threats. I so planned for this to be a long RP swan song session. I did try one last time to talk to him but he never replied. Left me on read.

We had two weeks off and I convinced myself so much he was going to quit that I didn't plan anything for the session.

Today the session rolls around. My other player has pumped himself up, is ready to go in hard. Confrontation is hard for him. Really hard. This was kinda a big deal.

He goes at Old Wizard and delivers a really well structured, calm and IN CHARACTER speech. I was proud of him!

Old Wizard just sighs and says, "I don't know why I'm here. I don't really care about any of you or what you do."

I'm done.

Thats it.

So I LITERALLY do my best to bullshit a session, which I think I did okay, I got them to a pretty big time monster that I'm excited to use.

I go ahead and end the session a little early and I say, Old Wizard, hang out a second lemme talk to you.

So I just politely say, "Listen. Its not working out, I feel like I've tried so hard to figure things out and its just not working. So you need to think about finding a new table."

He started in trying to say that yeah he thinks maybe this isn't the best character and trying to give me the same song again about he acts this way because of this reason he acts that way because of that reason. A new character would be better-

"No. You aren't understanding. This isn't the first time we've been through this. Its not just this character. This campaign and party isn't a good fit for you."

He says oh well, I guess this story and these characters are a bit childish for me.

Fuck you. Now you're trying to get a rise out of me, you pile of garbage.

I stay calm and polite and say, "Thank you for playing, too bad it wasn't a good fit. Good luck to you. But find a new table."

I have not been this relieved in a long time.

For the first time in a LONG time I am actually really excited and looking forwards to playing in our next session.

Very very long story short.

DON'T LET TOXIC PEOPLE RUIN THE THINGS YOU LOVE.

(Im just rambling here dont take anything i say too seriously)

So everyone's talking about whats gonna happen when Wilbur comes back and what he'll do but i personally think what other peoples reactions will be cause contrary to Tommy everyone has accepted Wilbur's death and most want him to stay dead. Wilbur walking around the server again will awaken so much trauma for so many people. There are some characters that i just have no idea what will happen tho so I'm gonna ramble. First is Fundy because his relationship with Wilbur is so complicated. Fundy, at least when it was Ghostbur, wanted to try to mend things with Wilbur but he also seems to hate him a lot. Fundy has also been through so much because of Wilbur. Their first interaction when Wilbur comes back will be interesting. Next is Eret. Eret im conflicted on because on one hand they know Wilbur did bad things and they know he went insane but on the other hand they look up to Wilbur and think he was a good leader so im excited to see what Eret thinks of Wilbur once he's back. Finally the eggpire, but i don't have much to say on them. The people infected by the egg didn't interact with L'manberg much and their thoughts on alivebur would change depending on what Wilbur thinks of the egg. Actually one more person i want to talk about is Niki. Niki's mental state has been declining and the one thing she knew for sure was Wilbur was dead. When she saw Ghostbur she literally blew up her house and tried to get rid of anything that reminded her of him. I have absolutely no idea what would happen if she saw Alivebur again but it won't be good. I might reblog this later with more characters but these are the ones i keep thinking about.

absolutely! i am so happy to see someone who isn't a full-on dream apologist stumble upon my takes, hello there :] always refreshing to see different kinds of people around!

i actually know quite a,,, couple who also like c!tommy! dream apologists don't inherently hate him, they dislike a lot of his fans more than anything because of,, personal experience, let's say, but most of them are quite neutral or sympathize w/ the character!

i myself really do like the character from a writing perspective! i don't like him personally despite relating to him (ptsd go woooo) because of his quite insensitive and extroverted personality (not saying that's bad! he's flawed and that's very cool of him!) but he's a good protagonist for his own story, albeit a bit stuck in bad mindsets.

as for the disc duo,, man, i am so sad every time i think about the two. during season one i used to be such a discduo stan, like their interactions gave me life, dream reminded me of myself back when i was willing to reach out to people like tommy.

and then uhh,,, stuff happened, as we all know

but from the beginning, i do believe the two were very rivalsduo-like. they'd tease each other but in reality they really were friends even if they didn't admit it. before l'manberg, after l'manberg, it really didn't matter that much, even through the initial disc wars it really was just a way to fight each other but it was not all that serious. they were being immature over a couple of worthless items. they were hanging out. and then war and trauma and revolution came, and everything went downhill at a 90 degree incline.

their relationship had just,, such a twist for the worse and it freaking hurt because now i had to choose between the two and i for the love of god couldn't. everything light about them turned dark.

of course, this is c!dream's fault. the reasons he did what he did are debatable to being a product of the environment, the effect others had on him and the situations he was put into, but he absolutely wrecked it and he made it awful in every way.

the thing is, dream when interacting with tommy - much like tommy had often said about people like dream, wilbur and techno - makes him somewhat the worst version of himself.

and i'm not even making this up, the way he interacts with literally anyone else is so much different from how he acts in front of tommy.

and it's??? so strange?? green man you ok????

like, contrary to popular belief, c!dream doesn't like to see people suffer, or play with them, or making them hurt.

the only times when he says stuff like this is in front of tommy.

my theory for this is what i think is the most supported by actual canon - he's falling into the villain-hero narrative.

the fact that c!dream is not mentally healthy and has been shoved into terrible mindsets is evident especially from the finale stream, and i think the whole vault scene definitely leans towards my theory about this. he keeps going on about sidekicks and pawns and - not only is he treating everyone else as a game, he also does it to himself.

it's important to note his actions have always been both outwardly and inwardly destructive, many being unhealthy coping mechanisms.

what i think is, he's purposefully playing a role. i think this might sound like a stretch but... it really is not if you consider everything?

it makes sense; dream is trying to make tommy (and tubbo, by extension) terrified, to view him as a monster, something less than human, someone to fight, someone to defeat, to bring down. he's taking every opportunity to make himself out as someone totally cruel, while actually acting completely different with other people.

so, as to answer your question? that's what i think dream sees tommy as. i think he sees him as the hero; or rather, someone who wants to play the hero. he wants to challenge him, wants to get tommy to play his game because it's the only thing c!dream knows how to play anymore and he's,, secretly scared, because he's forgotten how to be anyone but a villain, and on top of that doesn't see any other way for himself to achieve his goals and get back what he cares about.

like, dream cares, that much is obvious. he cares about people. i don't think he hates tommy and i don't think he likes him. he says they're friends, and in some twisted sense, i think he means it, and he thinks tommy is simply in denial. he's wrong.

the way he acts makes me think that he genuinely considers him and tommy the same at their core, and that if the roles were switched, tommy would do the same as dream and dream would do the same as tommy. this is untrue, of course, but dream believes things like this because his worldview is utterly shattered, much like his mental stability. i think he thinks the only difference between them is their role in the story. i think he buys into the narrative to the point when he fails to see it's,, incorrect, about him, tommy - about everyone.

but that's just my opinion! sorry for rambling, c!dream is such an enigma sometimes, and although i claim a lot of things in good faith, there are some i don't usually touch upon because they genuinely confuse me. the way c!dream acts around c!tommy is one of them.

Not only were we deprived of a great Sam/cas storyline bc of destiel but we also missed out on the cute friendship of Jared and Misha. I dont even like Misha but i could watch him and Jared take the piss out of each other at cons all day long lol

You know, whenever these two are together, they seem so lighthearted. They joke with each other, make fun of each other, prank each other, and, like you said, I could watch them for a long, long time and laugh a lot while doing it.

But Destihellers created this whole narrative of "if Jared does A, it's a crime. But if Misha does A, it's a fun joke!" that is just so hypocritical. Misha can do basically anything and he's the fun guy, the sweetest baby. But if Jared does it, he's a monster, he had the worst possible intentions. The double standards annoy the hell out of me.

About Sam and Cass, it's just plain pathetic what they did with their relationship.

The thing is: I love Dean. He is my second favorite character. But he was never the best friend for Castiel.

Let me make things clear here: I don't think Castiel is a poor baby, an innocent angel. He made mistakes, big mistakes, and there were times in which Dean, and Sam, deserved to be furious with him.

But whenever Cass needed help, whenever he needed reassurance, he couldn't go to Dean.

Sam would always welcome him, though. Sam is the one that consistently treats Castiel well. Sam's is patient, he trusts and respects Castiel, he listens, he  comforts, and they could bond on so many things.

But they don't.

On the contrary, Castiel fluctuates between "nothing is worth losing you" and ha! Joke's on you, I don't care about Sam. I mean, he canonically stopped talking to Sam because he had a fight with Dean. He broke Sam's wall to stop Dean. He released Lucifer, after everything Sam sacrificed, and the had the balls to act like the Winchesters were also at fault. I could go on and on and on.

And this is, at least partly, because of Destiel. Or rather, because of destihellers. For them, Cass must be Dean's, Cass can't have other significant, long lasting relationships. Everything Cass does has to be about Dean.

And the writers were too afraid to go against that. I'll give them this: sometimes they tried. But they didn't commit to it: Meg died, Hannah left, then betrayed  Castiel, then died. Jack is probably the only exception for that, because, so far (and I just finished ep. 15x12) he is the only consistent, long lasting, significant relationship Castiel has that the show takes the time to develop on screen. Because, yes, the show tell us that Sam is one of Cass' best friends, but they don't actually develop that statement.

Not even Claire was safe from that, his vessel's daughter. Did they interact after S10? I'm middle of rewatching SPN and watching S12 to S15 for the first time, and I don't remember their interactions outside the two or three episodes Claire appeared in S10.

The other part is, of course, the writers' inconsistent characterization and the way they seemed lost with what to do with Cass sometimes. So, whenever they didn't know what to do, they stuck with this cycle: (1) Cass trust the wrong people -> (2) Cass makes a mistake (usually when he tries to fix things by himself) -> (3) Cass' self-confidence gets really low -> (4) Cass tries to make up for his previous mistakes -> go back to (1).

In short, anon, Castiel deserved better, Sam deserved better and Jared deserves so much better. And yes, destihellers are a very big reason for this.

Imo there is enough to support the possibility of a romantic relationship, but you are writing full on narratives with impossible specificity. Let me just say thank you? I never quite understood what the brouhaha was about with my posts but after talking to a few people, 'on the other side' lol and reading your Ask, I think I'm starting to get a better sense of what the problem is.

Something about young impressionable minds or people?

Let the council of elders know, those are not my audience please. I cater to a much more mature audience- at least so far. The people that I interact with and engage with on my posts on and off Tumblr are very mature and not impressionable at all.

They are People with brains who can tell an opinion from fact and can engage in deep complex controversial conversations without throwing up, shedding tears or cussing through to the heavens.

If there are 'impressionable people' reading my blogs- they do so at their own risk. If you know any such people or they run to you with my theories kindly point out to them it's just theory because that's what my opinions are.

I think the best thing you can do is to advice such people to grow up if they are going to sit at the adult table or not read my posts at all. I think you need to learn to hold the right people accountable for their actions.

The best I can do in this case- to hold myself accountable, is to put up a disclaimer on my posts to let people know what it is that they are reading- something I do quite often. But I will make conscious efforts to put up those disclaimers each time henceforth. Thank you.

Most alt shippers I know and who read my posts and engage with it are not even Army to begin with, for your information. They could care less about these shipping politics of yours. Have you thought about that?

There are different communities out there who are also into Jikook- for very different reasons. You gotta respect that.

You start your piece off with the whole, 'there is enough evidence to support a romantic relationship' between JK and the tattoo shop lady- I assume.

ok so we have seen over and over again people's assumptions about how gg main characters's instagrams would look like but how do you think their secret tumblr blogs would be? 👀

hmm! i just went over tumblr in general, because i don’t think all of them would have ‘secret’ tumblrs per say? everyone’s thing under the cut, cause it got SO long. i did not mention chuck because i don’t rlly see chuck as having a tumblr in any universe tbh - i feel like he would think it takes away from his businessy vibe or something.

dan's main would be something with a ts eliot url, like, a snippet from one of his poems, or it would be a whitman url, a snippet from a poem again (i see him with a whitman url of some kind & maybe his blog title is an eliot reference.) dan would 100% have the whole dark academia thing going in some ways, i think his blog would be organised as a grid, and he would reblog pictures of libraries, museums, occasionally of art, and also, quotes. so many quotes. so much literature. if you've been on tumblr long enough you know exactly the kind of blog i'm talking about.

dan's tumblr sideblog, on the contrary, would have nothing to link it to him. it'd probably be the tumblr default theme, pastel colours or something... i feel like dan is the specific genre of trans kid who uses a different set of pronouns online for anonymity purposes and then goes "wait a minute i like these pronouns BETTER". his url would be something extremely mundane and random like coffeeaddict779 or something, and it would be all #vent and #dont reblog. nobody who's following his sideblog knows what his main is, and vice versa.

serena would i think have one of those "be kind, do no harm :)" kind of hipster tumblr blogs, except she's incredibly sincere. she wouldn't have a sideblog, i don't think? and i don't think she'd attach her name to it in any way, probably just pronouns in bio and maybe a 'call me S'. she and dan would be mutuals on dan's main! her blog will be very, uh. aesthetic pictures, reblogs of dolphin videos and music and WIP art videos and anything else that'll catch her eye. she'll tag blair in fashion vids, nate in sailing posts, dan in literary stuff, and vanessa in film related/photography related things. she's having fun! every now and then she'll post a vent post but it's extremely vague and it's either something everyone who knows her irl already knows about her ('i hate my mom so much') or something that says practically nothing ('i am so worried about my brother and wish i could do more to help him.')

jenny's fashion inspo blog!!!! what more do you want me to say. she'd make it big in the fashion community and get anons all the time and she'd probably also have an etsy where she sells things she's sewn and made. everyone sort of knows she's an up and coming designer and she'd find a good community online hopefully!!! her blog would be something simple, with a url like jennydesigns or something (i bet that's taken rn, i havent checked) and her theme would be one of those themes that allows for u to have big images. she would probably post vents in the same way serena does, tag them #personal or #rambles, and have that neat code that allows for the tag to be filtered out whenever anyone views her page on desktop, you know?

i think eric would not have anything specific that he posts. he would just reblog random things - memes, things he finds interesting, jenny's original posts, stuff serena tags him in, cat videos, lgbtq+ positivity, etc. he'd try and stay out of drama (i think he'd turn anon off eventually.) he’d also post a lot of music reblogs or links, i feel?

vanessa's main blog would be one where she posts her own photos and films. because she's professional about it, it'd probably just be @ vanessaabrams. she'd have a sideblog specifically for reblogging other people’s work because she wants to support other artists, and it would be vanessareblogs or something like that, and her bio would mention “main tumblr @ vanessaabrams”. she’d be much adored in the photo/film community and just in general, because she’s one of the few people who hypes up other creators all the time and leaves nice comments in tags and all that. every now and then serena reblogs vanessa’s photography onto her blog and it almost always blows up, but vanessa doesn’t mind. i don’t think vanessa would have a vent blog or even a personal tag, she gives me big ‘i wanna keep my business totally off the net’ kind of vibes.

nate’s blog would be a lot like serena’s except, uh, more openly wanderlusty i think. a LOT of ocean reblogs. every now and then he reblogs keroauc quotes from dan which the girls find extremely hilarious. he talks a lot about sailing and gets a lot of sailing anons. he’d reblog a lot of positivity (mostly because he knows his friends are following him and he wants to brighten up their dash.) dan and vanessa jokingly dm him weed aesthetic posts all the time, but every time they do he reblogs and tags it ‘sent to me’ or somehting like that, and they cant decide whether to be flattered or embarrased. i think nate would also attract a lot of anons who ask for advice and it is something he never expected people coming to him for, but he definitely listens and shares whatever he’s got to say all the same. he’s this blog who should be weirdly niche but everyone sort of knows him and likes him.

saving the best for the last, lol. i have SO many thoughts about blair’s tumblrs. 

i think she’d have a main tumblr that’s solely for classic film stuff (audrey! and more) and that’d be @ blairwaldorf, because, well, duh. i think she’d pay for a tumblr theme and get one of those really fancy and cute ones, like a floralcodes ms paint theme. i think she’d also have a sideblog that’s less serious, where she’d reblog things from tv shows, reblog things serena or nate have tagged her in, write her own meta for fandoms she’s in, just generally be a multifandom mess with a #personal tag but nothing too personal. it would still be classy, because she’s blair, but on this blog, she’s just a girl having fun.

and then she’d have a THIRD blog, a sideblog that doubles up as a vent blog. and this one isn’t linked to her other two in an obvious way, nobody knows it’s her, etc. on here she’d probably post a lot about her ed (but i think in a  ‘i am struggling and i want to bitch’ way, not in a thinspo way - that’s a whole conversation i have no spoons for, so let’s not go there), she’d post about her insecurities and worries but it would be extremely untraceable. she’d have a fancy theme on this one too, despite it being a vent blog. 

hm. now im thinking of the potential of like. dan and blair interacting super frequently on their vent blogs and neither of them knowing it’s the other person!

Well... the question focuses on my opinion on which ship has more chances to become canon, right?

I’ve spent some time thinking about my answer to this question, how I could go direct to the point while giving enough arguments to defend my opinion. Prepare yourself because I couldn’t and this will be very long. Sorry...

1. Eren’s characterization + romance

First of all, there is a very important point about Eren that shipers (even me sometimes) forget. A friend that loves and understand Eren the most pointed this many times when I was starting to forget about it... I dare to say that nobody surpasses her understanding of his characterization.

Eren isn’t a romantic person. We all have to keep in mind that his priorities aren’t the priorities a normal person would have. He is like Rick from Casablanca. There’s the duty and then dreams and then, maybe, romantic love (If we take for granted that he knows what it is). Erwin loved Marie but he had a priority. (There’s me finding more similarities between Erwin and Eren). Eren’s current development is more about his mission than a romantic one. Although he plays with romance, he does it while being blatantly blind about it.

Eren got caught in the middle of his normal development from a child that gets annoyed by romance and has some kind of allergy against cheesy moments (for ex. in ch. 3 with Franz and Hannah) to a teenager that blooms to feel romantic love as something important and unavoidable. It’s normal for kids. But Eren hasn’t a normal life. There was always something more important than learning how to love, be loved and express it openly. It’s not that he isn’t able to love, more likely the opposite. He knows how to love and he has his own ways to do it... but the way the world is restricted his possibilities to live a different life. Even in the way EMA never got to communicate properly most of the times. Communication runs sometimes as a question, a statement and no back question (for ex. ch. 3). Eren asked about Mikasa’s reasons to follow him, about Armin’s reasons, where he threw that line about his death being meaningless. Nobody said anything, neither Mikasa nor Eren reacted stating the opposite. They usually don’t have the time nor oportunity to talk or even think about essential topics as feelings of love or labeling their feelings.

Given Eren’s lack of experience and maturity that we could see until Marley arc. Is it even possible that he developed a carnal relationship with Historia before going to Marley? No. No, because it would contradict somehow his characterization. Eren is depicted exactly as someone that took this decision because he lost every single deep bond that would have stopped him. This lack of understanding brought him to this point. The lack of value he places on life and a comfortable life with friends and family.

2. The baby

The whole baby plot point is from my perspective just about the curse and a new generation (maybe) free from being SoY but just normal human beings.

Historia choosing this way was also the safest way to oppose her destiny... strategically speaking. She could trick everyone without being called openly a traitor. So I’m agree with you. Her question wasn’t romantic.

3. The father and his meaning

The father is, as I pointed out once in my Twitter acc., the farmer. My reasons are that there is a meaning behind his existence. He was a boy that dared Historia to break the rules and stop being submissive. He is aligned with Historia’s current role as someone who stopped being the good girl that follows stupid and detrimental rules in disregard of her own life. He is also a man that decided to redeem himself by helping her with the orphanage without trying to get her attention at all. Being a normal person who enjoys a normal life and also redemption. I’m not saying necessarily that it’s about love, but he isn’t just a nobody. He holds a deep, positive meaning for the story. Isayama pairs usually a sinner and an “innocent”: Annie and Armin, Eren and Mikasa, Erwin and Levi, Ymir and Krista, Historia and the Farmer. Eren and Historia are the current sinners on the matter that both chose the rumbling... let’s say.

Why this kind of pairing? Because one has to contribute to the improvement of the other. Two sinners (with the same crime and perspective) can’t help each other. It’s opposition what will bring them to overcome their weaknesses.

4. Development of the couples

That being said, Eren and Mikasa as pair are in the focus. Isayama went through 10 years of development of most of the pairs to build up a support for EreMika. He build parallels with YumiHisu and Falbi and gave us hints to understand EM better. The vow he made to her was probably one of those moments when he started to be romantic without noticing.

5. Eren and Historia: their moments

EH interactions are, conversely, of other nature. Both feel related about the point of carrying a big burden. While Eren has to save humanity fighting, Historia has the role of a founder who has to assure humanity’s survival by having children and keeping the royal family alive. Both want to be free from that burden and end up being “partners in crime” by betraying everyone. I’m missing the romantic interactions to be very honest. It’s because Eren is so self-focused that he anchors here when someone who is alone and having the same problems and feelings appears. But... where did the fandom start to see something between them?

Two moments. The moment when he said “she is admirable” and the moment when he insisted to spare her life. That obsession that is so tricky to even be explained.

The first one made a difference between how Eren acknowledges Historia’s attributes and disregards Mikasa’s. The fandom uses this to point out that Eren likes Historia more. Well, no. His relationship towards Mikasa was characterized by jealousy. He won’t admit anything.

Regarding his “obsession” to save her... this started when he knew the existence of Eren Krüger, his thoughts and the whole story about Dina. It wasn’t before that. We must also admit that Historia’s safety was related to more characters than just Eren. Since the very beginning, her safety was conveniently displayed by Frieda, Ymir and Reiner, what makes me believe that her destiny was to give birth to this baby (aka. plot armor). Her role is to avoid becoming a titan by her own choice, that’s her arc. With Krüger we also knew the importance of a royal: they can give birth to more convenient instruments for war. Knowing that he was devoted to the mission, I believe that Eren is being influenced by him (I want to highlight the word “influenced” as something different to manipulated). So this is all related to the mission and the final outcome about Ymir, the curse, the power and the baby. Eren partly wants to grant her the chance to choose, but he also pushes her to do so based on part of her desires because of the mission as he did with Grisha.

Add here the fact that Historia was prepared to sacrifice his life at the cave if it was needed. That shows her priorities.

A lot of EH shippers claim that she saved him. Regarding her role as savior, I’m more objective and skeptical. She spared his life, but emotionally speaking, she didn’t really save him. The proof is that he was still low, thinking that he was a nobody. Carla’s words were the message with enough impact to relieve him and make him open himself to Armin and Mikasa and tell them about his sorrows. This shows the difference on the impact on him when it comes to Historia and when it comes to Carla... this happens again in ch. 131. He thinks about his mother instead of Historia who was the one reproving his plan. To me, Historia is his friend and inspired him to fight just for his sake against the system and rebel those who are over him and oppressing him. But his soft side is related to Carla, Armin and Mikasa: his family and those, who appreciate his life over his fate and urge of freedom and to be acknowledged.

Bonus: when Eren told Historia that she saved him was more like “You chose this path once and I’m sorry. I’ll be starting the rumbling and you contributed”. Historia’s face to that looks like this: “Oh no...I fucked up”. It doesn’t look like “Oh no... I don’t regret saving you because I love you and I can’t live without you”. On the contrary, that’s when she realizes that she was part of this since the beginning and that by saving him, she chose to let the rumbling happen once in the past. Then she goes along with the plan for her own reasons and because she hasn’t better options to choose either.

Summary:

Eren didn’t develop as a romantic person yet nor prioritized romantic love over his mission. It goes against a previous explicit development of EH before the trip to Marley. The farmer has a positive meaning as the father. EM is more developed and shows romantic undertones and common tropes. EH hasn’t romantic undertones and it’s more related to the mission to save the eldians.
