AU. What if Rin survived Kakashi's Chidori, but Obito thinks she died, and he went and became a mysterious Vigilante, hunting down evildoers, on the side of doing Madara's bidding, but Obito still retains his skepticism of the plan but still goes along with it because he's got nothing left to lose. Obito would become a ghost story to the Leaf, and Minato and Kakashi try to capture him once but fail. What would your headcanons be for this AU?
Before I can provide my thoughts here, where is Rin?? HEADCANONS BELOW!
Edit: (30/04/2023)
As you've mentioned in the replies below:
-She (Rin) is being trained by Tsunade, having survived thanks to Isobu. She has become close to Isobu in the weeks following her becoming a Jinchuriki. Isobu offers support and wisdom to her and helps her harness his power. She does go on missions with Kakashi and Minato. And she has realized that she only had a crush on Kakashi, but she started to realize that she felt something stronger for Obito.*
*My take on said feelings for Obito would be after Kakashi revealed to her in the Kannabi mission that he was going to abandon her while Obito was willing to save her. For the longest time ever since she returned and survived as a Jinchuuriki, Obito was all that she could think about as the person who cared for her the most in her life and did everything out of his love. She yearns for him, regrets her selfishness, and always goes to his "grave" to talk to him. -And by this point Obito will have killed hundreds of people, so he is no longer the same person he used to be and he's started to hate himself because of it.*
*Obito would only reluctantly go with Madara's plans because he has no other purpose, while terrorizing evil-doers at the same time as you mentioned. But the one reason that makes Madara's plans take so long to accomplish is because RIN is a Jinchuuriki, and he doesn't want to stand in the way of her living her life now that she's alive. So, every time Rin and Obito cross paths, Rin would think he's a villain and attack him, but Obito does nothing other than defend himself without landing a scratch on her. This makes Rin grow suspicious and in turn, more curious about the mysterious masked man. Ironically, Obito seems to not mind attacking Kakashi and Minato aggressively, while sparing Rin.
And since you mentioned in the replies below that Obito would be aware but is reluctant to return because he feels he doesn't deserve it at all, and Team Minato hunts him down - so here's my take on the the one way they'd find out who Obito is eventually is of the following: *Obito leaves clues about himself - the first major clue is his refusal to attack Rin and how he is quick to disappear whenever she thinks she has gotten closer to him.
*The second clue is Kakashi's dogs; Kakashi would manage to tear Obito's sleeve and obtain a piece of cloth from him, and utilize his dogs to find clues about him. Pakkun would somehow relate the scent on his cloth into an item from Obito's former house in the Uchiha District, or from the dirt in the cemetery. Why his grave soil? Because Obito tends to hang around the cemetery, listening to Rin talking to him by his grave. His shoes would leave a clue. *The next clue is when Rin is attacked by the Akatsuki; and it would be a coincidence in which Rin just happened to be in their line of sight, so the Akatsuki members would take advantage of having the 3-tails right between their palms, and Obito would then intercept secretly and save her by sucking her into his Kamui dimension, then take her to a safe place far away.
Here, Rin would demand to know who he is and why he keeps saving her, and Obito tries to get away but Rin utilizes her 3-tails chakra to injure him quickly, since Obito dropped his guard around her.
She then attacks him, and one blow from a kick infused with her bijuu chakra could break half of the mask, but this time Obito no longer defends himself and decides to throw her off and incapacitate her with his Wood Release; and threatens her menacingly to stop pursuing him or he'll kill her. He immediately knocks her out and teleports her back to where her team is. Rin then tells them everything. Team Minato realizes that the one way to grab the masked man's attention is by bait, and the best way is using a Jinchuuriki. Since Rin cannot be used as a bait, Naruto convinces his father and Kakashi to let him help them find out who the mysterious masked man is. Minato and Kushina were very reluctant, but Naruto said that nothing can hurt Kurama even if they tried, and so they've developed a team powerful enough to trap Obito.
Naruto would be the one to tear off the mask similar to how he did it in the 4th shinobi world war.
Team Minato would only fall into complete shock, especially Kakashi who gets shaken up and starts trembling and breathing heavily, and Rin, who cannot believe her eyes, fearlessly gets closer to him despite trembling. Rin would allow her anger to leak out as she screams at him, demanding answers from him, but Obito only looks at her with a solemn smile, steps closer to her, caresses her cheek, freezing her in her spot as he says, "I was there. I know everything." Then his hand would slip from her cheek and he would press his palm to her chest, where her drumming heart is, and say, "Ever since that day, the Obito that you knew all your life... died along with you."

Deity Au TobiMina starts off as a sort of unrequited love ( on account of Tobirama , he is unaware of Minato's own feelings for him ) and because Tobirama knew for a fact that Minato wasn't meant to be his.
Because I like to torture Tobs ✌💕

A/N: Oookieee, so I decided to start writing a new fic bc I have great ideas for a story line. Yet I can’t bring myself I writing an actual beginning. Like I’ve already written some random chapters, but I can’t do anything with them because they don’t really make much sense without the context of the rest of the fic/my ideas. Like this chapters is where the romance/actual x reader gets into actual action. Hopefully you get the gist of what the plot is, and aren’t confused as hell from this part. Sorry if it’s a bit long, it’s around 4.8k-ish words. Enjoy 💜

Hatake Kakashi wasn't one to celebrate his birthday.
He simply thought that they were foolish excuses to let loose and party. To Kakashi, birthdays were no reason to be happy and celebrate. They were just reminders of how long he had endured the pain of living. Each year marked another without the people he once held close in his heart. His father, his sensei, his teammates, and (y/n)...
The day that (y/n) gone on that horrible mission was his special day. The mission he was supposed to go on, but (y/n) filled in for because she wanted him to go celebrate with Gai and the others. So much for having the day of joy...Kakashi thought to himself mournfully.
With a great sigh, he grabbed the last of his belonging, shoving them in his mission pack. He'd promised to take his students out of a group mission for the day, but it had been mostly for selfish reasons. Kakashi had hoped that this would take his mind off of the weight in his soul, yet knowing that his efforts would be futile. The loss would never leave him, it would always follow him like a darned shadow. It would forever haunt him. There was not letting go of the horrors of his past.
Slowly, Kakashi strolled to the gates of Konoha to meet his kids, shoving his hands in his pockets as he mumbled a little tune under his breath. The dark cloudy sky and drizzling rain seemed to mirror how he felt inside.
Drip, drop. Drop, drop. Drop, drop.
Each raindrop fell upon the dirt paths of the town, dampening Kakashi's Jonin uniform. If only he'd gone on that mission, if only he hadn't let (y/n) take his place. If only so many things that happened hadn't. If only he felt whole again. He could feel the heavyweight of guilt on his shoulders, spreading pain throughout his body. Sure, Team 7 filled the void, but they could only do so much. If there is one thing I wish for, it is that these kids will grow up to be happy.
A soft smile played upon Kakashi's face as he approached the three teens. "KAKASHI-SENSEI!" His hyperactive blonde student, Uzumaki Naruto, yelled at him, "YOU'RE LATE-TTEBAYO!" He raised his fist in anger. Sakura glared at both Kakashi and Naruto, slapping the boy's back to calm him down. Off to the side stood Sasuke, his hands in his pockets as he briefly kicked the dirt and pebbles around him to form his clan's symbol. "Usuratonkachi," he grumbled at the group. To be honest, Kakashi did feel a little guilty about keeping the kids waiting for him. They were being held back just because he was wallowing in self-pity. And Kakashi felt ashamed of that; ordering his mind to push his thoughts further to the back of his mind.
Kotetsu and Izumo, guards of the gates, turned to the team and smiled in greeting. "The gate opening mechanism is broken, so we have to manually open the gates," they explained. "Heading out yet again, eh?" Kotetsu chuckled. "I thought you lot just came back from a mission. Ya leaving so soon?" Izumo asked. Naruto pumped his hand into the air, "Yeah! Dattebayo! It's only a C rank, but it'll be fun-ttebayo!"
He's a lot like you, eh Obito, Kakashi's mind wandered as he looked up at the clouded sky, a drop of rain fell upon his nose and slid down his mask. If only you, Minato-sensei, and Rin were here to see us in action. You would be proud.
But what about (y/n)? Part of Kakashi was surprised that he didn't think of her immediately. Did he still believe that she could've been alive? After the Hokage had told him that he'd lost contact with (y/n), Kakashi didn't know what to think. It had been 3,650 days since she left. 3,589 since she was supposed to come back. And 3,529 days since they fully lost contact. What were the chances she'd come back, alive or injured? Kakashi wanted to believe that she was still alive. Was that realistic?
"She's gone, Kakashi! You need to understand that!" He flashed back to when Asuma, Gai, and Kurenai had tried to slap some sense into him. Well actually, Kurenai had slapped him. "Kakashi-sensei?" Sakura gently tugged his sleeve, straining her arm up so her red umbrella would also cover his head. "Are you okay? You've been spacing out a lot lately." She whispered as she looked up at him.
"I'm fine, Rin," Kakashi weakly smiled, "It's nothing that you should worry about." Sakura flashed him a questioning look, "Rin?" Sucking the air, Kakashi's whole body tensed up, "Sorry." He looked away, turning his attention to the bickering Sasuke and Naruto. "Just a little mix-up, Sakura." He put on a fake smile, breaking up the boy's fight. "Let's go, shall we?"
"Alright! Shanaroo!"
"Dattebayo!"
Kotetsu and Izumo went to open the gates but stopped to exchange worrisome glances. "Someone just knocked from the other side of the gates. Which is weird because our list says that we shouldn't be expecting anybody." Izumo knit his eyebrows together. Kotetsu, who had been looking through a glass which allowed him to see the incomer, hastily urging Izumo to help him. "ANBU!" He had barked at his partner, "Bleeding! Dying, wounds, whatever! They need medical attention!" That had caught Kakashi's attention, he got ready to act as the guards opened up the gates, heaving on the rusted hinges. Yet he was not mentally prepared for what awaited on the other side of the grand doors.
There she stood. Uniform torn, stained and ripped up. The wakizashi sword that was strapped to her hip was blunt and scratched, the sheath dented. Skin scratched and bruised, wounds dripping with blood and gore. A long x shaped cut on the inner side of her left thigh. Gasping and choking for air, she started to wobble, blood dribbling down her limbs and stomach. The rain continued to fall, now hard and heavy; burning and searing the wounds of the lady. Yet she still managed to keep her face from wavering In an instant, Kakashi recognized who the woman was based on her cracked porcelain ANBU mask. (y/n).... "Sakura! Go alert the hospital. And you two boys, clear the way for Sakura so she can get there. Quickly!" Kakashi ordered them as he took the heavily wounded woman in his arms. Anger and fear coursed through Kakashi's veins as his heart thumped erratically. He could feel (y/n)'s body twitch in pain. "Izumo, go let Hokage-sama know that Ibara-hime has returned." Kakashi let out one last demand before zipping off to follow his kids.
"Kakashi..." (y/n) mumbled out his name, "Kakashi..." she shakily rose her hands up to gently cup his masked cheeks. "What is it?" He whispered, gently rubbing her skin through a torn patch of her ripped uniform. "Happy birthday, Hatake..." She softly breathed, her tight grip of Kakashi's chest loosened as her eyes dropped closed. Please don't die, (y/n)... I've waited all the fucking years. You aren't leaving me again. A tear formed in Kakashi's eye, flying off with the rain as he bolted towards the hospital. Stay with me a bit longer, will you?
"My sensei will be here any second with an ANBU woman in need of immediate medical attention!" Kakashi heard Sakura's voice quiver as he barged into the hospital. "I'm here, kids. Go to Gai-sensei and stay with him until I'm back." He quickly barked, flashing all of the nurses who flowed into the room a nervous look. "Please, help her. I'm begging you." He pleaded with the staff uncharacteristically. I need her to live. Need. "We do what we can, sir." One of the medic-nin nodded, putting (y/n)'s unconscious body onto the stretcher. If (y/n) lives, that would be the best birthday gift ever.
Kakashi jogged after the nurses and doctors, peering into the emergency clinic room through the window. "I'm sorry, Sir, but you won't be able to visit the lady until all the major injuries have been cleaned up and treated." A male nurse out his hand in his shoulder from behind. "But..! Okay..." Kakashi let out a sigh, "Isn't there any paperwork that needs to be filled out?"
The nurse shook his head, "The Hokage has come and is speaking to one of my colleagues about it. Don't worry about it. You won't have to take care of any of that." He tried to reassure the angsty shinobi, "The woman is part of the ANBU ranks, right? Her mask is of the uniform." Kakashi nodded his head, biting his lip inside of his mask, "Yeah...she is... but it's kinda complicated." The nurse raised his eyebrow but just shrugged. "Can I speak with the Hokage?" The Hatake requested. "Come this way," the other man sighed, leading him away.
Tumblr media
Kakashi let out a deep and long sigh as he held (y/n)'s scraped hand in his gloved ones. He had been told by the same nurse from before that (y/n) was in a decent state to accept visitors, yet was still unconscious. He could tell that the nurse was hiding something from him, but he was too worried about (y/n) to give it a second thought. Hesitantly, he brought her hand to his masked lips, gently pressing them against the fabric. "Ya know, (y/n). After you left, I decided to give those goddamn books a try. And you're right, they are addictive. Thanks for the gift," Kakashi sadly chuckled before pausing for a moment.
"Those books, they helped me a lot. They helped me get through my days, just like you told me."
"They also helped me realize something. They helped me realize that I don't hate you. I don't want to hate, and I never should've."
"I've realized that I was such a dick to you at the beginning and that it was all my fault that our relationship became how it was. I regret it... So when you wake up again, I just want to start over again. Maybe not entirely, but just so that we can leave all the hate behind us. How does that sound?"
Kakashi stared at the sleeping (y/n), her chest heaving up and how slowly and rhythmically. It hurt him to see her like that, her skin swollen in the places of the stitches and anointed bruises. "Listen, (y/n). I'd never been able to tell this to you while you're conscious, so I might as well let it out now. I...I love you." Kakashi rightly shut his uncovered eye. "After feeling your loss, my dumbass self finally realized how much you are worth. After they pass on, you and the others were all I had left. But then you also left me, that hurt like hell." His tone started to break.
"Lord Hokage told me about the whole fake-death move, and I was relieved that you weren't gone for good. And then we lost contact, everybody assumed the mission had been finished, and your squad sacrificed your lives for it. I couldn't let the fact that you could be a dead sink in. It didn't feel right. Gai, Asuma, and Kurenai tried to get me out of another depression cycle. Kurenai even went to the lengths of quite literally slapping some sense into me." Kakashi played with a loose strand of (y/n)'s (h/c) hair.
Tumblr media
The muscles of (y/n)'s hand twitched ever so slightly. Kakashi's drooping head snapped up; he'd almost fallen asleep in the chair. "(y/n)?" He murmured as her eyes started to flutter, "(y/n)?"
(y/n) chapped lip parted ever so slowly, taking a big breath of air, her (e/c) eyes squinting. "Hatake..?" She shakily managed to mumbled, her voice hoarse and dry. She tried to prop herself up on the bed, but Kakashi eased her back into her resting position. "Rest, (y/n), you're not ready to stress yourself yet." Kakashi to her, "I'll be back with a nurse and some water for you, alright?" (y/n) opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She simply looked down and nodded.
Moments later, Kakashi came back with the nurse and water. "Here," he carefully put the cup to her lip, gently tipping the cup, "Good." He turned to the nurse, who seemed to be scribbling something down from the little monitor to his clipboard. Kakashi's eyes followed the cord attached to it, to the long x shaped hash in (y/n)'s inner left thigh. What worried Kakashi was the anxious look on the nurse's face.
"(l/n)-san, your vitals are doing alright, but you'll have to stay here for a night or two just so that we can keep an eye on something's that may need monitoring." He curtly nodded his head, "Lord Hokage wished to speak to you. So, sir, that means you may have to leave."
Kakashi tried to reason with the other man, but (y/n) reached to weakly squeeze his thigh. "It's okay, Hatake. You can just drop by later." (y/n) tried to smile. "Fine," Kakashi grumbled, leaving the room and letting Hiruzen in.
Tumblr media
After what seemed like an eternity, Hiruzen came back out. "How's (y/n)?" Kakashi asked him impatiently. The Hokage put his hand on Kakashi's shoulder as if trying to soothe him, "She'll be better soon. Don't worry, alright." The silver-haired shinobi let out a small grunt, "I know that she'll get better with time. But what about now?"
Kakashi knew that Hiruzen loved (y/n) almost like a daughter, he cared about her deeply. Hence the elaborate cover-ups to protect (y/n) and her squad on the unconventionally lengthy mission. The Hatake could see the sadness that had tried to be tucked away in the Sarutobi's eyes. "The main concern of the moment is the poison in the gash on her left thigh. The medic-nins have tried to extract as much of it as possible, and try to find something that will counteract the effects." The elderly man explained to him. "Did they find an antidote?" Kakashi questioned.
"That is where the problem lies," Hiruzen explained, "There is a certain medicinal herb that is used alongside a jutsu to nullify the effects, as the poison has traces of chakra. We have a few medics on hand who support the skill to perform the jutsu, but we don't have the plant. Even so, that won't be a permanent cure." Kakashi knit his eyebrows together, "How would it not be a perfect cure? Plus, since there are traces of chakra, could we possibly track down the person who created the poison and make them fess up on the cure?" He questioned.
"Great thinking, but..." Hiruzen groaned, "(y/n) said that they performed a self-destruction jutsu just after striking her. He probably thought that it would be in their best interest to take their secrets to the grave with them." Kakashi cursed under his breath, "Fuck... This is terrible."
Hiruzen nodded in agreement, "No duh."
Kakashi's head shot up, "Uh?!"
The elder man's eyes widened, "Did I use the term correctly?! I'm trying to pick up on the phrases the kids are using these days..."
Kakashi gritted his teeth, "Right idea of the meaning, I guess. But the context and timing...wasn't quite fit." Looking ever so slightly dejected, "Oh...alright." Smoothening out the wrinkles in his robe and putting in his cob pipe, "Kakashi, if you are going to stay here with (y/n), could you at least pick up some good food. The food in the hospital canteen is quite bland." Kakashi nodded his head and obliged, only to be stopped in his tracks by Hiruzen.
"Kakashi, I'd like to ask you something?"
"What is it?"
"What caused your change in actions towards (y/n) change so much?"
"What do you mean?"
"I've observed you two whilst you were in the ANBU together, and you never got along that well. And suddenly you act so attached to her, Kakashi. You don't need to answer. It's just that as your leader, I want to understand what is going on in the heads of some of my most trusted people." Hiruzen explained to Kakashi, puffing out a cloud of smoke from his cob pipe.
Kakashi frowned from behind his mask, trying to figure out how to explain his change of feelings in a professional manner. "I think that after I was given the impression that she was gone, I noticed that I cared about her. It made me realize that I was wrong to not see how much she meant in my life." He tried, his voice fading off into a whisper. Hiruzen smiled and nodded, "You really are something else, Kakashi."
Tumblr media
Kakashi silently strolled over to Ichiraku's to grab some takeout. The paper lanterns lit the nearly empty streets of Konoha, creating a soft and soothing ambiance. The smell of the rain and moisture still clung to the air, the dirt roads had muddy dampness to them. "Yo! Kakashi, my eternal rival!" A boisterous and friendly voice greeted the said man. "Hey, Gai," Kakashi responded, he noticed his students sitting alongside each other and gave them a quick wave and smile. Naruto and Lee were arguing about who'd get Sakura. Sakura insisted that Sasuke would come around in her favor. Sasuke was quietly eating his food. And Neji and Tenten were discussing a new sword they saw in the windowsill of a weaponry shop.
"I'll take two eggplant miso soups with brown rice noodles," Kakashi leaned over the counter space between Lee and Naruto to order his meal, also effectively stopping the argument. "Thanks, Ayame," he thanked the daughter of Teuchi, owner of the quaint place. "No problem, Kakashi-san!" She chirped.
"Kakashi?" Gai raised his brushy brow, "Your kids told me about what happened this morning..." Kakashi sighed and pulled him aside so that they were at a comfortable distance, "It was (y/n)..." he told his best friend, "She's back and in the hospital because she's not in good health at the moment. I just came here to pick up a meal for her." Kakashi watched as Gai's jaw dropped, "(Y/N) IS ALIVE!" He exclaimed a touch too loud for his eternal rival's taste, "CAN I MEET HER?!" Tears of youthful joy waterfalled down the jumpsuit-clad man's cheeks. "I'll see if you can come tomorrow, alright Gai." Gai smiled broadly, "This is very...unusual. Youthful, nonetheless!" He grinned.
Kakashi rubbed the back of his head and nodded, "I'm glad she's back..." he murmured barely loud enough for Gai to hear. Knowingly, Gai patted Kakashi's back. "Oh! Yeah! Happy birthday, my youthful rival!" He gently punched his comrade's shoulder. A smile formed on Kakashi's lips, "Thanks, Gai." He flashed his eccentric friend his signature close-eyed smile.
"I'll see you later."
"Bye, Kakashi! Have a good night!"
Tumblr media
Knock knock, Kakashi rapt (y/n)'s door, "Can I come in?"
"Come in," (y/n) murmured, a small moan of pain escaping her lips, "Ouch..."
Kakashi quickly set the takeout on a little table, rushing to (y/n)'s side. He wrapped his arm tightly around her waist and helped her to the table. "I got us dinner because the food at the canteen isn't that good." He explained with a slight shrug. "Thanks, Hatake," a weak smile formed on her lips. The silvered-haired Jonin served them their meals. "Itadakimasu," they both mumbled.
Heavy tension filled the room as they ate in silence. (y/n) knew that Kakashi had his mask down, but didn't look up. "It's been a while..." Kakashi breathed, in hopes of hearing (y/n) speak, "Too long..." The kunoichi rested her forehead on her palm, "I- Yeah..." she mumbled, eyes growing classier by the second. So much for trying to start a conversation... Kakashi thought sadly as they resumed their meals without a word. The silence seemed to be killed him. Kami, it had been 10 goddamn years! 3650 days since he had gotten to talk to the woman. He missed her. Hell, he could even say that he missed all of their little spats. Hatake Kakashi missed everything about (y/n).
"I missed you..." was all Kakashi mumbled as he pushed his finished food away and pulled up his mask, "All these days, months, and years."
Hot tears slipped down (y/n)'s cheeks, forming a puddle on the table. "I-I came back be-because I didn't want-want to hurt you and the r-rest. Dying on passed down pain to the people who love you. I can't afford to c-carry the guilt of t-that." She mumbled shakily, "I promised to be back, a-and I held up the promise." Kakashi sadly smiled as he awkwardly reached under the table to gently caress (y/n)'s thigh.
"You care about others so much, but you should really take a moment to care about yourself, (y/n)." Kakashi scolded the injured kunoichi, "You had me scared for you; all those gashes and open wounds... You could've died," he knit his eyebrows together in worry. "Don't do that ever again."
(y/n)'s dull smile faltered as Kakashi spoke on, "Now you know how I felt when I saw you doing all those suicidal stunts back then on those missions. It was like you were in a hurry to die... I mean, I was too, but you did some seriously dumb shit," she giggled emptily. Kakashi sweat-dropped, "I see... I guess you are right..." (y/n) rolled her (e/c) eyes as the masked shinobi let out a drained sigh, "I'm always right, Hatake."
"Really, (l/n)? You've been through torturous pain, and you still act like a child." Kakashi groaned, "All these years..." (y/n) shot him a hard glare, "All these years and you still think you're in charge of me." He cast a confused look, "It's my duty to protect you, as a comrade." As a comrade... "I guess, but you're just annoying, Hatake," she huffed.
Tumblr media
"I'm sorry about ruining your birthday with my arrival and stuff. I probably ruined your plans with those kids." (y/n) looked down, breaking the silence that had fallen upon them, "I could hear you guys through the gate; they seemed pumped about going out. I'm sorry, I didn't think about the flaws in my whole plan." Kakashi's head snapped up from its resting position on the table, "It's fine, they don't even know it's my birthday," he paused, "But you planned to come here? As in, today in particular. With all those injuries, (l/n), you should've just tried to take care of yourself. My birthday isn't as important as your health."
The (y/n) shook her head, "I was going to stay at a small village pretty far from here before finally coming home. I planned to just heal up there and see how things went from there. I even considered settling down there. But that just didn't feel right," (y/n) face set in a frown, "Once I realized that your birthday wasn't that far off, I decided that I couldn't stay and needed to come back. I doubted I would even live to be back. But here I am..." she said with a soft wince of pain. "It was terrible, I hated every second of it," Her (s/t) fingers made their way to the raw mark on her inner thigh, “I’d already lost so much; there was nothing for me to lose at that point.” Kakashi's face softened as he understood what she meant. (y/n) wasn't put in the mission alone, she had her team. They all must've been killed with time.
"Ouch!" (y/n) yelped as she let out a moan of pain, clenching the fabric of her hospital-issued pajama pants. “Shh..." Kakashi whispered into her ear, quickly leaning in to soothe her, "What's causing all this pain?" He asked with a frown as (y/n) bit her lip. "It's the thing in your thigh, right? Lord Hokage and the nurse told me a bit about it. But I still don't fully understand it and how it can't fully be cured."
(y/n) buried her face in her hands, "Oh..." She mumbled, "The poison can't de be removed because it's already been inside of me too long. And since it is laced with chakra, the properties of it aren't completely like normal poison." She blinked back the stinging agonizing tears in her eyes, "The herb that I need is just going to ease the effects in my body, whilst the jutsu will seal it from triggering anything that was layered in with the chakra." (y/n) explained. Kakashi could tell she was trying her hardest to keep her face straight, pushing back the pain and hurting inside. "The thing is–"
"What?" Kakashi asked the pained woman, his tone soft and soothing, "I can help if I know what's going on."
Warily, (y/n) agreed to speak on, "The place where the mission was stationed at was just underground of the nuke-nin outpost I was from. And the guy who poisonous me was one of the other kids' experiments were done on, along with me. He was a few years older than us, and his name was Hiroto Myoga. His parents were in owed debt to the rogues, they were forced into being test subjects until they died. Which left Hiroto in the nuke-nin's hands." She rubbed the temple of her head pushing away the images that sent a shiver down her spine, "Something similar had happened in the case of my parents and me. But unlike me, when the ANBU did the raid, Hiroto was snuck away just in time."
Kakashi's heart sank as he heard what she was telling him. (y/n) had never known much about her past, the damned curse seal had caused. “Since he was older than most of the other kids there, the nuke-nin's of the outpost decided that they needed to trust their information. It was all precautionary, just in case they were taken down. And that's just what happened. Hiroto was the one ordered to put memory restriction curse seals on us, the kids, before he fled to be underground, where the actual harm was being done. That meant that all this time Hiroto had been working in those old plans." (y/n) closed her eyes tightly, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
With a subtle groan, Kakashi supported (y/n) up from the chair and rested her in her cot. "Don't stress yourself, (y/n). You can just tell me later; it's getting late anyway." He told her. "It's fine, Hatake. Letting this out helps me feel better." She reassured him.
"The ANBU caught wind of suspicious activity in that area and decided to send out a squad to go check out. I overheard Danzō arguing with Lord Hokage about it, and got interested. It was really dumb, but I just wanted to go to learn more about what happened in my past. I learned, but that can with lots of twists and turns. 10 years of going undercover..." (y/n)'s (e/c) eyes met Kakashi's single uncovered black one, "It wasn't long before Hiroto became suspicious of us, slowly narrowing the group down till it was just me." (y/n) took a deep breath and continued, "After Hiroto killed himself in our final fight, my curse seal was lifted. That's how I suddenly was able to remember all of the past. All of it."
A pit formed in Kakashi's stomach as he watched (y/n) cry in silence. He wanted to help her feel better, he really did. But he was afraid that he'd make things worse; dealing with feelings just wasn't his thing. "I'm here for you, (l/n). We've been through so much together, you've helped me through it all," Kakashi tried to reassure her, "It's my turn to look after you. Please, just don't cry." He reached out his hand to brush a tear-off of her streaked cheeks.
Tumblr media
“Are you okay with me staying here for the night?" Kakashi asked (y/n) as they sat at the bay window, looking down upon the empty moonlit streets of Konoha. The soft light cast down by the moon seemed to make everything look beautiful, serene, and at peace. "(l/n)?" He asked again, turning to look back at her. A gentle smile played on Kakashi's lips as he saw that she'd fallen asleep. (y/n) had been through so much throughout the day, she not only deserved to rest for a long time but also needed to. "Good night, (y/n)..." he carefully lifted the sleeping beauty and placed her on the cot. Sitting back at the bay seat, Kakashi took in a deep breath. "I love you."
She's finally back.
She's finally home.

Ch.10: The Two-Tails (2)
Mito arrives to a quiet room. Too calm for her liking. Naruto sits in front of strewn papers, a contemplating look on his face.
    “You can’t go,” is the first thing that comes out of her mouth.
    But her grandson looks at her, smiles like always, and then shares with her their plan to uncover some secrets they think are lurking under the waters.
    Mito throws doubts and worries at every turn, and even though the Inuzuka’s leader and Shino agree with them, Naruto explains his reasoning. Shikamaru offering advice whenever it is needed.
    It is late into the night when they decide to adjourn and meet again tomorrow. As details and responsibilities are yet to be decided. And although the meeting’s details are secret and are not to be shared with anyone, when Mito meets Minato, like many other times -as ordered by their clan leader- she can share her knowledge with him.
    She doesn’t know what it means that at the end of the day, the only thing she can do is hope for the best.
    It is harsh to see Minato’s feelings all over the place and then settle. “I understand.”
    It is harsh to see a reflection of herself reminding her that as usual, they can only nod and trudge behind Naruto. Eyes downcast, fingers crossed. Hoping for the best.
    Again.
    As always.
⁂⁂⁂
Hinata feels Naruto coming with a certainty she herself has come to find eerie. She leaves the book beside her before the sliding door begins to open. Quietly.
    Naruto looks inside the room with his brows furrowed. “I didn’t wake you, did I?”
    Hinata feels her shoulders drop and a smile creep up on her face the moment his blonde hair comes into view. “No, you d-didn’t.” He walks without making a sound whenever he comes late, he leaves without her noticing every morning. She supposes it is a mixture of Naruto really wanting to give her rest and her body being more tired, but she has been missing him coming and going a few times already.
    She misses him.
    His mood changes from one of concern to one of playfulness. His clothes come off in a flash, and he barely puts on his sleepwear before he decides to slide into their bed and snuggle into Hinata’s body.
    His nose nuzzles against her side, his arms around her. And Hinata is immediately grateful she waited for him.
The bigger she gets the closer she wants to be with him, and knowing that Naruto will have to be away for more than a week... she can’t help but resent that meeting.
Day after day, all day long away from her. In between Jiraiya's training, taking care of the clan in these unprecedented times and now a Beast Tamer meeting, Naruto has more on his plate than before. And Hinata can’t really bring herself to whine about how much she misses her husband.
Naruto lays kisses on her stomach, where his hand travels along the way of her bump, and then he moves upward. A trail of kisses that make Hinata’s skin tingle. His head moves closer and closer to hers and she can’t help but feel exhilarated.
It’s one look. One look from Naruto’s blue eyes before he dips his mouth to hers that sends her spiralling down between lust and concern. She doesn’t know which is more prevalent.
Naruto has been nothing but optimistic about his trip, nothing but calm and composed. But Hinata knows. Even with Lord Minato, Lady Mito and Jiraiya being full of plans and measures and assurances, they can’t hide their tension. Nobody near her can hide their anxiety completely.
Hinata knows. And there’s also one thing else she knows, has always known.
She can’t do anything.
So when Naruto kisses her with the slightest of intent Hinata melts. Because she has missed his body and his care and his touch and knowing that he will soon face danger just makes her more eager to touch and seek and bring him to her.
Naruto comes out of their kiss gasping for air, and the air around him shifts immediately. His hands roam Hinata’s body, but now they grab and pull. Hinata moans and Naruto devours her.
“It’s late,” he shares. A quick glance to the clock that doesn’t stop him from the task at hand.
Hinata doesn’t care. She was hoping. Wondering whether Naruto would have the energy for this, would share the hunger that seeps out of her. His hand cups her breast and he massages. Her breasts are bigger now. Bigger than before, as if that was possible. But she doesn’t care. Has come to even be proud of it.
“I d-don’t mind.”
Naruto’s face comes down her body, leaving wet kisses down her jaw, her neck. He reaches into her clothes and exposes one breast before bringing it into his mouth. The feeling of his tongue is enough to make Hinata moan and drag her nails across his back, so when he sucks and bites, she arches towards him. Her stomach pressing into her clothes.
“Let me,” he gasps. His own sleepwear is halfway off, his shoulders and chest exposed. He unties Hinata’s sleepwear and the light of the candle shines on her exposed belly, her rising chest.
Naruto feels his erection against his underwear with a clarity that’s uncomfortable, urging him to find release. But he can’t help but stare at his wife. Her arms are in front of her chest, as she has always been conscious of them. He was already entranced by the way her breasts couldn’t be hidden behind her arms before, now… now the sight is enough to make him cone.
Naruto can feel himself growing frustrated by the second. His own body screaming to find her entrance, to find comfort. He lets his hands roam around her body, digs his fingers where her body is plump. Hinata squirms under him and follows his hands with her own, her chest exposed.
Naruto comes closer, his groin flush against hers, and the heat makes him groan in pleasure. Their hands rest on Hinata’s growing belly and Naruto doubles over, his mouth over her heart. He lets his tongue greet her skin first before kissing the same spot.
“I love you.”
There is no answer and Naruto raises his eyes to meet Hinata’s, as she has never let his confessions go unanswered before.
Her eyes are filled with tears and her lips are pressed together. It takes him less than a second to understand what’s going on.
But he refuses to make promises. So he softens his touch, kisses every part he can reach as he makes his way down to Hinata’s belly.
“I love you. I love you. I love you,” he whispers as his mouth travels down. He stops when he reaches her stomach. Bulging and growing and with child.
His child.
“I love you,” he breathes and he brings Hinata’s hand to his mouth, playfully bites her before placing a kiss on her palm. He lets her hand rest on his cheek, and he feels himself choke up on emotion, too. He doesn’t know when he will be able to settle her worries, doesn’t know when he will have the confidence to say everything will be all right.
So the only thing that’s left for him is to profess his love for her. Confess time and time again and hoping that that is enough for her to stay. To love him back. To withstand whatever he puts her through.
… what an idiot.
When does love become resentment? He’s scared to find out, even scared to think about it.
Hinata brings her legs around him, grabs his arms in order to pull him into her. His hands to either side of Hinata’s, her eyes staring back.
“I l-love you, too.”
He chuckles before cupping her face and kissing her. His tongue to hers, the tingle on his body just growing stronger. Hinata finds his erection and touches around his head, sucking on his lips as he gasps for air.
“Can I-?” He starts, but Hinata is already pulling down his underwear.
He’s a soaking mess and finding Hinata in the same situation makes him smirk. “Love…”
“I missed y-you-” Hinata can’t finish her sentence, as Naruto pushes inside. Her head presses into the floor, her hips raise and her fingers dig into his arms. Yes. She lets out a throaty moan that resonates throughout the room. Naruto starts with slow thrusts that make Hinata's libido soar.
His hands on her stomach, his eyes on the up and down of her chest. "You all right?" He asks, voice hoarse, muscles tight as he keeps on with his movement.
Hinata nods. She bites her lips as her body asks for more. "H-harder," she whimpers.
Naruto brings his knees forward, presses his body flush against her own, his own abdomen touching her pregnant belly. His whole body enveloping hers. He worries for a second, is about to show concern for Hinata's comfort, but then she crosses her arms around his neck, brings his head close to hers. Her mouth to his ear. Her moans right next to him.
"Tell me if you feel any discomfort," he groans and then pushes himself to the hilt. Hinata's body arches even more and Naruto can feel her chest against him. He keeps on with his movement. Can feel the sweat pooling at his neck, the sound of their bodies colliding growing wetter by the second.
Hinata drags her nails across his cheek as one of her arms snakes between their bodies. She touches herself and Naruto can feel the immediate clamping of her body around him.
"You coming, love?"
His lips ghost over hers and Hinata moans into him, gives him open-mouthed kisses Naruto devours. Her hand brings his head closer to hers, her lips bite at his skin as she feels herself unravel and reach her peak. Her legs close tight over him and Naruto follows her mouth as she moves to the side in a silent moan that only brings sound after Naruto grabs her thigh and presses further inside. Her body trembling all over.
She feels herself reaching for him, and Naruto catches her hands and brings them to his face, drags them across his chest. Naruto's movements are now slower, deeper. His eyes are closed and Hinata gets lost watching as the sweat makes his skin shine. As there are streaks of sweat moving down his tight muscles.
Naruto opens his mouth but no sound comes. His hips stutter and he comes with his mouth on her neck, a low growl resonating in his chest. He pulls out and the loss of warmth makes Hinata squirm under him, but he comes back immediately. His wet erection against her stomach. Naruto thrusts against her and his hand finds hers, as the other presses down his penis against her skin.
His eyes are open now and they travel up her body before settling at her face. He groans before his sperm shoots out again, adorning her belly. Hinata brings her hand up, places her fingers where she feels his seed, drags her hand across her stomach.
Naruto feels his chest rising and falling, and he feels like there isn't enough air around him. He pumps his penis a couple more times, and lets what's left of his semen fall on Hinata.
Again.
Again and again.
He doubles over and covers Hinata's mouth with his. A deep kiss, where his tongue reaches and where their saliva intermingles and overflows around their mouth.
A hungry kiss.
Hinata’s white eyes lock him in place. She brushes his hair back and smiles.
"S-so handsome."
Naruto chuckles. He falls into her, letting his weight press down but also keeping in mind her condition. He buries his hand on her hair, tilts her head to kiss her better. He sits on his heels and drags his mouth over her chest, he kneels and kisses her stomach, drags his hand over his own seed. He lets his hand fall on her thighs and drowns on her image.
He looks at the clock.
And Hinata sits in front of him, brings her mouth to his neck. Her hand to his penis, his inner thighs.
"It's late," Naruto repeats, with no intention to stop her.
Hinata’s mouth travels down his shoulders, his chest, his stomach. She settles between his legs and kisses his thighs.
"I d-don’t mind."
And then she brings his penis into her mouth.

World’s Worst Best Men: Itachi x Wife!Reader
A/n: I'm not writing a summary but I have a feeling you'll like this one. Not so much romance as usual, but it is fun and I’m proud of it.
Pairing: Itachi x Wife!Reader, Platonic Sasuke x Reader
Word Count: 1.7K
Here’s the dress I imagine wearing. Though, your imagination is key.
Tumblr media

Uchiha weddings were nothing, if not extravagant and over the top, you should know, you have had one for yourself.
Standing beside your husband of three years, the prodigy, Itachi Uchiha, you couldn't have been happier. Sasuke was getting married and you and Itachi had the most triumphant grins on your faces, both beaming gleefully.
You and Itachi had been childhood bestfriends but didn't start dating dating until late teen years. So naturally Sasuke had been an important person in your life, an amazing boy whom you had watched grow up.
The wedding had been a blast, everyone enjoying themselves to the fullest. Asuma and Kurenai were dancing along with their son in a group with Kakashi and Gai. Kakashi drunk dancing was really a sight for sore eyes.
Genma was at the bar, really vibing with one of Sakura's distant aunts while Iruka was being paired up with one of Hinata's quiet aunts by Naruto.
Minato and Kushina were standing alongside Fugake and Mikoto drinking champagne and feeling proud.Smiles of genuine happiness were on each of their faces as they felt their life goals had been achieved.
Of course all the boys were dancing alongside the Jounins' group with Sasuke in between surrounded by a wild Naruto, drunk Kiba, flustered Lee and other friends of the like.
The girls were in their own group with the bride in between surrounded by perfectionist Ino, jovial Tenten, inebriated Temari, bewildered Hinata and likewise. Ino kept straightening the flowers in the newlywed girl's hair.
This was all you could ever ask for someone as important to you as Sasuke. You, someone who never cried, almost shed a tear when Sauske said his vows. The fact he found love in his life made you really grateful to God.
After all the guest tired themselves out by uncoordinated and off beat dancing, it was time for the best man's speech or in this case, best men.
Naruto and Itachi were the two best men as they both mean the world to Sasuke. His best friend and his elder brother.
With a champagne flute in hand, Naruto started, "Putting our rivalry aside for one day, I would go so far as to call you-, this is only a once in a lifetime privilege remember Teme," He referred to Sasuke getting off track his speech, "-my best friend. Who would have thought you would get married? Howbeit to a girl?"
Everybody laughed, silently agreeing with Naruto. The atmosphere of the wedding hall was bright, beautiful and cheery. The exuberant and buoyant gathering listened with real enthusiasm.
"I don't have anything against you marrying a guy, honestly because all of us expected you to, after you broke a lot of poor girls' hearts."
Sasuke seemed really shocked at this, even his mouth fell open with widened eyes while everyone once again silently agreed. Sasuke's shock told you that he actually had never heard about this rumor before.
God, he was a really oblivious kid.
"I know, Dobe," Naruto said referring to Sasuke's surprised expression, "I was that shocked too, when I came to know they shipped you with me nonetheless, because that was something even I wasn't aware of." Naruto and Sauke both made disgusted faces, as if on cue. The look of terror on Sasuke’s face might have led people to believe it was the most sinister thought ever.
But they did look cute together.
"But I guess they say, you aren't really best friends if they don't confuse you as homosexuals." Naruto let out a beaming grin while Sasuke gave a crooked smile. Everyone inwardly cooed at the pure expressions.
"However, there is one female I remember you crushing on, the only one in the entirety of our lives."
Sasuke had a look of horror on this face as he shook his head 'no' immediately, trying to get Naruto to shut up, specks of red in his eyes as he threatened to activate his 'Sharingan'.
"I remember you being all flustered and look at (Y/N) with heart eyes.”
Naruto's grin widened, showing his pearly whites, clearly content with Sasuke's reaction.
Your name caught you off-guard and you were in absolute shock. People turned around to give you a not-so-subtle glance but you didn’t care. You always thought Sasuke was a shy and quiet kid who liked to keep to himself. Mikoto let out a cheer while Fugaku smiled. Itachi let out a deep-throated chuckle from beside you which caused you to turn to him, “You knew about this?”
He silently nodded with a smile on his face and you carried on, “And never even mentioned it to me? Would it have killed you to do so?”
“It wasn’t any of my business. Also, it was pretty funny.”
You lightly hit his arm and retorted, “Oh God, I don’t even know who I got married to!”
A smile still broke out on your face as you turned to Naruto once again.
“I remember once Kiba and I were hanging out and we heard a really high pitched shriek from the forest. We ran all the way inside thinking someone was in danger but it turned out to be Sasuke squealing beacuse it was (Y/N)’s birthday and she gave him a kiss on the cheek for some gift he gave her. I swear our ears started bleeding. He was so red that we thought all the tomatoes he ate finally caught up to him.”
You blinked twice, your expression blank. Then a coy smile made its way to your face. You looked over to find Sasuke as red as a cherry, not even meeting your eyes. He was definitely praying to God that looks could kill, so that Naruto would drop dead.
“I remember that back in the academy, he never let any of us touch his hair because (Y/N) ruffled it while dropping him off. So he would sit through the lessons looking like he just woke up.”
All his classmates snickered at that, recalling the fond memory, while you were amused. It was so hilarious to see such a stoic person so flabberghasted.
“The most interesting incident that came out of all this was, and I’m totally risking my life by telling you all this. Sasuke would kill me if I even narrate it to anyone, rather announce it on the microphone at his wedding, but your best friend gets married only once. Well hopefully. If I turn up dead by the coming of dawn, it was Sasuke Uchiha everyone.”
Everyone laughed along once again while half of the people were on the edge of their seats thinking what it could possibly be. Sasuke had a puzzled expression on his face, anticipating and fearing what Naruto had up his sleeve.
“Anyways, one when we were high........ I mean drunk, he confessed of a secret love letter he wrote to (Y/N) as a tween but never sent it.”
Your eyes widened as you let out an audible gasp while the room buzzed with chortles and sniggers. Your brother-in-law crushing on you wasn’t necessary negative news but the whole event had overwhelmed you that you could not contemplate even your reaction.
Apparently, you were the only one to be surprised as all the other guests smiled knowingly and cackled. You glanced over to find Sasuke so scarlet that you wondered if the sharingan had spread to his face given that his kekkei genkai was active now.
Itachi chuckled again seeing your reaction and put an arm around your shoulder while gently squeezing. You turned to him and finaly let out a chuckle yourself, eyes still widened in disbelief.
“Am I dreaming?” you asked and shook your head.
“Seriously though, have I been that oblivious Itachi? How could I not notice this while everyone here recalls it as some keen memory?” You held your head with one hand, leaning furthermore into itachi. Your eyes flickered to see Sasuke’s eyes, boring apologetically into your own.
One look at his chiseled face told you of his anxiety and concern. The small frown on his face saddened your heart.
Does he think I hate him? Poor baby, NO!
You weren’t offened, flattered if anything. But the spontaneity of the situation rendered you speechless.
You gave him the best smile you could muster, wiggling your eyebrows at him and blowing him a kiss from your cherry lips, and grinning again.
He visibly relaxed, shoulders now less taut, jaw a bit slackened though his face remained painted in scarlet hues. Seeing him calm down, you winked at him and turned to Naruto again, anticipating his next words.
“My only regret tonight is that I couldn’t find that letter even inside his personal diary or his deep closet. I swear it was there the last time! No worries, hope you found this speech of mine, entertaining as it is. One last toast to Sasuke though, for his new life ahead. Cheers.”
Sasuke cooled down with each passing word, smirking triumphantly when he realised he won’t be shred of his remaining dignity anymore.
Everyone toasted together, drinking huge mouthfuls of their wines, rejoicing in Naruto’s words for Sasuke.
Itachi kissed your temple, and left you while moving to the centre of the stage, where Naruto was.
“If I may?” He asked as Naruto passed him the microphone.
“I’d like to say how proud of my baby brother to have come this far in life, as a great shinobi, an excellent son, a marvelous friend and a terific human overall.”
Everone clapped vigourously including you, while all his classmates hollered and hooted. A faint blush adorned Sasuke’s cheeks as he visibly pouted on being call ‘baby bro’.
“And I was about to give a half an hour long speech, but my wee brother’s best friend, Naruto just stole all my content. So much for the tales.” Itachi playfully sighed, all the specatators buzzed with laughter while Sasuke deadpanned.
Well, he wont forget his wedding day ever now. Everyone is dead set on embarrassing him.
“However, I do have something Naruto didn’t have.”
Everyone stilled, waiting with anticipation of what was about to come, including you. Itachi refused to rehearse his best man speech with you because he wanted to write a speech for Sasuke on his own, heartfelt and everything.
He reached inside his tuxedo’s jacket and took out an old cramped paper, yellowing a bit and you raised your eyebrows, questioningly.
Sasuke gulped.
“I have the love letter, everyone!”
Oh Wow.

A/N: If you reading this, atleast you made it till the end. Thank you.
So that was that. It was some scenario I just thought about. A bit of a cliffhanger, I haven’t thought about a follow up part 2, but we’ll see if that’s what you want.
Thanks for the love you gave me on my first post, we reached 200 if you count the separate posts I made by mistake. This inspires me to write. Remember, requests are OPEN so feel free to hit my asks page.

Pairing prompt!
First kiss, kakaobi
First time seeing them cry, minaobi
First time waiting at their bedside, not sure if they will awaken, shikanaru
🥰
I really liked these. It got long, so I put them below the cut.
✂️✂️✂️
First kiss, kakaobi
It happens over the weekend.
They’re studying at their teacher’s house, shoes in the doorway, listening to the radio while they finish worksheets. Obito keeps glancing his way when he thinks Kakashi isn’t paying attention but those unblinking black eyes are impossible to ignore. He tries to make conversation, asking questions about their assignment to fill the air. The room feels small with Obito’s gaze fixed on his face.
Eventually Kakashi finds himself asking, “What? Something on my face?”
“No.”
“Then why are you staring?”
Obito’s answer is to stare some more.
A little perturbed, Kakashi puts his pencil down. “You’ve been acting weird all afternoon.”
“No I haven’t.”
When Kakashi turns to refute this blatant lie he’s looking into Obito’s eyes, because Obito has moved closer, taking up all of the space on the couch cushion beside him. When did he move? Kakashi is a little baffled as the sofa dips under his weight because Obito is never quiet and curious like this. He’s ever straightforward, direct with his desires, so obvious. Worry hiccups in his heart, a ripple in the calm of his cool exterior.
This close, Obito might be able to hear how quick his pulse is.
“You’re still staring.”
Obito’s mouth jerks into a smirk, a flash of something familiar, before a strange determination settles into his shoulders.
“Yeah. Does it bug you?”
He’s close enough to catch the way Kakashi’s breathing quickens. Black eyes flicker down to his mouth where the sunlight warms his skin, pale cheeks coloring slowly under his unblinking gaze. Obito’s eyes track all over his face as though he hasn’t spent their childhood learning it, hasn’t cracked his knuckles against the edge of Kakashi’s cheekbones or bashed foreheads during their fights as schoolboys.
He’s really close.
“Obito?”
Finally he blinks, glancing up through heavy lashes to find mismatched eyes watching him closely.
It’s easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Obito can’t make himself ask, the words stuck in his throat, and he surges forward before his nerve desserts him.
Kakashi jumps as Obito’s weight crashes into him, sending them both toppling back onto the couch together. Obito doesn’t stop kissing him the whole way down and it’s all Kakashi can do to keep kissing him back, mouth finally open, lips pressed together, a single whimper escaping before Obito drinks down the rest of his sounds.
There’s no time to describe how incredible it is. It isn’t anything like electricity in his veins or an explosion. Instead there’s a steady heat that seeps into his bones, radiating from the hands on his waist, the weight of Obito’s chest crushing them into the couch, the lips murmuring his name against his mouth, hot.
Kakashi has never felt so warm all at once.
His eyes flutter open (when had he shut them?) to find his best friend watching with the most anxious look.
“Was that okay?”
He’s terrified. Kakashi can read him with a glance (they’ve spent their whole lives learning how to) and knows Obito is afraid he’s fucked everything up.
“No,” Kakashi says once he’s caught his breath, once he’s certain his voice won’t shake. “No, that sucked.”
Obito flinches. But Kakashi has his collar in a grip because he knew Obito would try to run, grabs him tight enough to hurt, and makes sure his best friend is watching very closely when he continues pointedly, “Obito. You’re gonna have to do better than that—try again.”
First time seeing them cry, minaobi
“Hey, I’m home!”
The call from the front of the house has Minato scrubbing his face, quickly, because he wants to give his boyfriend a smile to come home to. It’s too late because Obito sets down the groceries and materializes beside him like magic. Warm arms wrap him up and the blonde gives up a watery smile.
“Welcome home.”
“What happened?” Obito wonders, worry in his baritone as he reaches up to brush away the water hastily scrubbed from his partner’s cheeks. “Minato?”
“Nothing. Ah, the groceries! We should put up the cold things…”
His words are interrupted by a hiccup he can’t swallow. Obito’s face is set and Minato is swept off his feet. He gets tucked into strong arms as Obito moves them deeper into the house. The blonde’s quiet protests go unheard as he’s carried bridal style to the bedroom. It’s there that Obito deposits him onto the bed.
“It’s nothing,” he tries to say, for Obito’s gloved finger to press against his mouth.
Just the look in his one good eye gives Minato guilt. He should know better; Obito hates it when Minato tries to hide things from him. Instead of putting on a happy face the older man accepts his pampering, letting Obito tuck him under the plush blankets of their bed. His blue eyes are still damp and Minato stops trying to hold back his sniffles.
“It’s not nothing,” Obito’s voice guesses quietly, “but you don’t have to talk about it now. For now, just let it out. I’m here for you.”
Obito learns that he hates watching Minato cry. The helplessness that fills him up eats away at his guts, claws at his heart as he watches his most precious person sink into a mire of tears and little soft sobs. He doesn’t cry loudly, no screaming or wailing. Minato cries softly, like he has to keep it inside and bottle it.
It does give him the opportunity to cuddle the blonde close. He doesn’t care how wet his turtleneck gets. Minato tries once to not smear snot and tears against his clothes; Obito presses gently but firmly until the other man’s face goes back to the flat of his chest. Obito’s gloved hand finds Minato’s to hold while his other cards through blonde spikes, stroking soothingly.
It doesn’t matter why in this moment why Minato is sad. Obito is here for him, for the first time he’s been allowed to see Minato cry, to comfort him. He lets his lover vent quiet sobs into his chest, letting the emotion run its course.
Later, once all his tears are spent up, Minato will say thank you, with a kiss to the corner of Obito’s contented smile, and Obito will scold Minato for not relying on him sooner.
First time waiting at their bedside, not sure if they will awaken, shikanaru
“It’s going to be a while,” Sakura warned. “He breathed in so much poison…”
“I’ll wait,” Shikamaru said firmly. “I want to be here when he opens his eyes.”
Naruto on the bed breathed in slowly, ragged, through three different tubes. The sight made Shikamaru’s own breathing tight. Naruto always healed, everything, but for once it was taking…
“A long, long time,” Sakura had repeated on her way out the door, “No smoking inside. Please.”
It was the last thing he’d heard for nearly four days.
“Shikamaru? Shikamaru, earth to Shikamaru!”
“I said what,” he snapped, turning from the bed for the first time in five days. He stood up straighter at the sight of the Hokage in the doorway. “Sir.”
“At ease, soldier,” Kakashi sighed. “And drop the sir. It’s temporary. Just like this.”
His eye tracked to the figure on the bed. Shikamaru turned his gaze back as well. It wasn’t like he needed to look. By now he had the lines of Naruto’s sleeping face carved into memory. Those three scar marks on each cheek. The unnatural stretch of his mouth around breathing tubes. The slight bags under each eye.
“All his superficial wounds have healed,” the Hokage’s voice said needlessly because Sakura had said the same thing two days ago, “All that’s left is for the poison to finish circulating. Once it’s out he should be up and back to active duty.”
Shikamaru looked up sharply. Kakashi met his confrontational gaze with a cool look.
“It’s what he’d want,” Kakashi said quietly.
In Naruto’s defense. Because that’s what he would want. Shikamaru smirked.
“Of course he would. He will.”
“We need you on rotation.”
Shikamaru’s smirk fell away.
“I won’t leave his side.”
“We need you,” Kakashi repeated, his voice firm and his gaze uncompromising. “I can give you forty-eight hours but there are others who need relief.”
Shikamaru couldn’t deny the Hokage outright but it was the first time his mind was already plotting four different ways he could leave behind a clone or trade shifts to get out of duty. His shoulders squared, Shikamaru let his gaze fall to the floor, and he nodded once.
A hand landed on his shoulder.
“He’ll be here when you get back.”
It turned prophetic: Naruto was still in the hospital bed when Shikamaru returned from active duty to be at his side. He tracked down Shizune straight away, nerves driving him to put a hand in his pocket, resting against the pack of cigarettes he wasn’t allowed to smoke inside.
“How much longer until he regains consciousness?”
Shizune looked started first, then apologetic.
Shikamaru frowned.
“Oh. Haven’t they told you yet?” She said.
He made himself stay and listen (even though it couldn’t be true) and thanked her for filling him in. Stiffly, he went outside and let himself smoke for the first time in nearly two weeks. The harsh crackle of nicotine burned through him, ripped apart the walls around his heart he’d built up against the suspicion that lurked in the back of his mind.
Naruto might not wake up.
Impossible, because he’s the jinchuuriki. They wouldn’t let their not-so-secret weapon lie in a coma even if there was no other option. Konoha would find a way.
Except they couldn’t.
Even Tsunade and Orochimaru combined had been forced to admit defeat. Any further experiments were denied by the Lord Sixth Hokage due to their unethical nature and Shikamaru shook off the tremble in his hand as he lit a second cigarette.
He took the longest, deepest drag he could before crushing it on his way back inside.
Naruto would want to see him when he woke up—if he woke up—
Shikamaru shook his head. Naruto wouldn’t want him to think like that. Naruto wouldn’t want him to worry, the stubborn guy, wanting the best for everyone around him, not giving a damn about himself, reckless, a little clueless, stupid, selfish, wonderful, bright, shining and smiling and stealing Shikamaru’s senses with one look.
Despite the pounding of his heart Shikamaru managed to snort a laugh. That guy.
The nurses gave him pitying looks as he walked back into the room and took up the same seat that bore his weight for a week straight before.
It didn’t matter. He’d be there.

pls tell us more about the snap-moment ! what is different from canon that makes him snap ?
If you had planned better
If you had just taken your time
We should have put someone else in charge
The elders words repeated in his mind. A mantra of disgust and hatred. Their words laced with anger directed at Kakashi.
But for once, he knows it’s not his fault.
For once he’s not the one who screwed up.
His plan was flawless. Perfectly organized and put into action with the information they had given him.
It was their information that was wrong.
“We’ll just have to try something else,” Homura-Sama’s voice dropped with annoyance. “This time we’ll put someone who can handle the mission in charge.”
Something snapped in Kakashi’s mind. Like a dam breaking, his fingers started to spark with lightning.
“I did the mission according to the parameters I was given,” he snarled, his one eye zeroing in on the elders. “IT’S NOT MY FAULT!”
Within seconds the room was full of Anbu guards, and all three of the elders in front of him were standing. Reading to fight for their lives if they had to.
“Kakashi,” the thirds voice cut through the air. “Stand down!”
His brain screamed at him to listen. To be a good shinobi. The soldier he had molded himself into to survive. To make it through the same world that had taken his father, Obito, Rin, Minato Sensei.
The lightning didn’t stop. Instead, the sound of chirping birds filled the air as his chidori started to form in his left hand.
“I got them home alive!” Tears streamed down his face as the image of Tenzo’s broken, bloody body flashed in front of him. “I prevented us from losing shinobi because of your bad intel!”
Was it really so much to ask for a little recognition? Or at least to not be blamed for everything.
He was so tired of taking the blame.
“Tenzo almost died! And it’s because of you!” Anger was the only emotion he felt, and there was only one thing he wanted to do with it. “It’s your fault!”
Rushing forward, he sliced through the first Anbu guard to get between him and Homura without hesitation. Blood splattered across his face and stained his hand, but he didn’t waver.
His goal was set, and he’d achieve it no matter how many people he had to cut down to do it.

You’ve given me so much power Bailey thank u 😌✨ now for the chaos... could I get some hc’s for Mikoto leaving F*gaku for a woman and them raising Sasuke, Itachi and Shisui together? It has literally occupied so much space in my mind. Please take all the time you need and remember to drink lots of water 🥰 Love, Carmen

Mikoto x reader
1.3k WC
“If it wasn’t for the boys, I would not be telling you where I am going, Fugaku. Please know this.” Mikoto stated, setting her bags on the floor near the door. “You do not deserve to know my whereabouts, not after what all you have done.”
Fugaku’s eyes bore into the shorter woman. This was the Mikoto he knew once long ago. Her eyes overfilled with bravery, along with something else that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. “You have changed, Mikoto. You have reverted back into your old self, someone that a woman like you - a mother - should never be.”
Her eyes met his, spinning into a deep blood red. “You are wrong. While I have indeed changed, that much is true, I am exactly who I need to be.” Mikoto picked up her bags, her penetrating gaze never leaving his, “I am ten times the woman you could handle, a wiser parent and will once again be a splendid shinobi.”
 Mikoto sat down at the dinner table across from Sasuke. Her eyes fell onto his plate that was overflowing with various foods, including a large serving of steamed tomatoes. She laughed lightly at the joy in his eyes as he began to eat them rapidly. Itachi and Shisui joked and pushed next to each other, all while eating their helpings as well. Next to Mikoto is where you sat. Your gaze met hers as she smiled widely.
“Thank you for preparing our meal, y/n. I was finishing handling business at..” she trailed off, looking towards the boys to insure they were paying no mind to you two. You nodded, understanding what she had meant.
You and Mikoto were great friends, you had been for years. You had seen the way Fugaku had been treating her in the years past. His anger seemed to grow ever more, taking it out on not only his wife, but his children as well. You had invited Mikoto to move in with you, bringing the boys along as well. There was enough room for you five to fit snuggly. It was a three-bedroom home. The boys could share two among themselves and you opted to give Mikoto your own. She was rather insistent that she did NOT want that, but, you did it anyway.
As dinner came to a close, the boys ran off to their rooms together while you and Mikoto cleaned from dinner. “You didn’t have to make tomatoes just for Sasuke you know?” Mikoto joked, bumping hips with you lightly.
You laughed, “Well, he wanted them so I wasn’t going to tell him no!” She smiled, placing the dry plate into the cabinet, waiting for you to hand her off the next.
“He will eat them for every meal if you let him. Just a fair warning.” She laughed, closing the cabinets once you were done washing the dishes. “I do think we should all be off to bed soon though, it is getting late and we both have busy days tomorrow.”
You nodded, “Yeah, though, Sasuke did ask me to tuck him in tonight, if you are comfortable with that.” Mikoto felt her heart skip a beat.
“Of course! I mean, you are welcoming us with open arms after all! I hope that you get more comfortable with the boys and them with you!” She smiled.
The two of you made your way down the hall. The two rooms the boys got to choose from were right across from one another. It seemed like Itachi and Shisui chose to share the larger of the two while Sasuke got the smaller for himself. You could hear the older boys arguing behind the mostly closed door over who was going to be Hokage first. You laughed lightly as Mikoto interrupted them with a knock, walking inside thereafter. You stood in the door way and watch as Sasuke played with a few scattered toys. A toy shuriken and kunai among the bunch. In your opinion, if any of the boys would be Hokage it was Sasuke, but you would never tell another soul. After a few moments of him not noticing you, you decided to call out to him. His eyes shot up to you before smiling at you.
“Are you going to tuck me in, y/n?” He exclaimed, very excited by the very idea.
“Of course! You did ask me to, did you not?” He nodded rapidly, dropping his toys to the ground and leaping into the small bed. You turned off the light near the door as he turned on the lamp on his bedside. You made your way to the edge of the bed, pulling the blanket up to his chin. He wiggled lightly as you tucked the sides of the blanket under his weight. You sat next to his knees, speaking to him gently.
“Now goodnight, Sasuke, you get a good night’s rest.” As you stood, he grabbed your hand.
“Wait! Won’t you tell me a bedtime story first!” You looked down at his large brown eyes, sighing.
“Of course, but only one then you must get some rest.” He nodded violently, taking back his place on his pillow.
“Once upon a time there was a splendid shinobi. His name was Minato Namikaze.”
 This routine carried on for many weeks, weeks leading into months. The boys had grown quite accustomed to their new lives. Though with little to no contact from their father, the unrest and sadness was brewing deep inside of them.
“Y/n, does my father love me?” Sasuke’s question startled you. You lowered the blanket over his chest, sitting next to him per usual.
“That is certainly an odd question to ask. Of course, he does. Why do you ask that?”
His gaze fell to his hands where he fumbled with a string from the blanket, “Well, you see, it’s just that he never talks to me. Ever since mom and him split up he doesn’t seem like he loves me anymore.” You could see the tears welling up in his deep eyes.
You pulled him up into a hug, “Sasuke, I promise that he loves you. He thinks about you every day, he is just a harsh man at times. He does not know how to show his love.” You stroked the back of his head as he cried. After a few moments he pulled away to look up at you.
“Y/n, do you love me?” You felt your heart break at the sight of him. He was still a kid; he doesn’t deserve this.
You wiped a tear from his cheek, “of course I love you, Sasuke. I love you and your brothers.”
“Do you love my mom?” The question left you, again, caught off guard. “Well do you? Because mom loves you. I know she does.”
You felt a heat rush up your cheeks, “Well, yes. I do.” His tears slowly faded as you laid him back down. He requested that you tell him the story of Minato again. So, you did.
You creeped into the hallway where you found Mikoto waiting for you.
“You were certainly in there a while. Is everything alright?” She questioned, hands behind her back.
You nodded, smiling at her. “Sasuke is just having a hard time, much like Itachi and Shisui are.”
She sighed, knowing well what you meant. “Anything else happen?” She questions.
“Ya know, something else actually did happen. And it made me realize something that I wish I had realized long ago.” You took a step towards her, a smile forming across her face.
“And what is that, y/n?”
You pushed your lips against hers, a small smile behind each of yours lips. As you pulled away you heard a gasp.
The two of you looked over at where if came from.
“I told you! You owe me five bucks!” Shisui exclaimed, hitting Itachi’s arm.
Itachi looked back at the two of you, eyes gleaming.
“Does this mean we get to call you mom?”

House Isekai: Shadowbringers Act 2, Part 3 - Crossroads
House Isekai Shadowbringers AU Masterlist Here
Tumblr media
Lahabrea, the Blue Lions, Black Eagles, Ashen Wolves, and House Isekai have finally arrived at Derdriu, awaiting the Golden Deer and the Investigation Team.
Only now does Lahabrea give them the answers they have been waiting for, and the war to finish before time runs out...
[No Greater Sorrow - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers OST]
Byleth slowly opened his eyes, the light from the windows blinding him.
(Byleth) “Where in the hell...?”
(Minato’s voice) “Oh hey, you’re awake.”
Byleth turned to his side and saw several of the Persona Users in the beds next to him.
(Minako) “Oh, thank god you’re alright!”
(Akira) “Hey, Byleth.”
He slowly sat upright on his bed, reaching for his head.
(Byleth) “Where are we?”
(Mitsuru) “We’re in Derdriu. The journey took a day or two but now we’re just waiting for Claude to arrive in order to discuss our next course of action.”
(Byleth) “And where is everyone else?...Actually, why are you all in the Infirmary with me?”
(Ryuji) “Those voices or whatever is effin’ with our heads. We almost passed out but we seemed to see the same thing...Some kinda tower?”
(Junpei) “That Lahabrea guy better have some answers, I’m sick of being left in the dark.”
(Byleth) “...You may not like what you’ll hear.”
(Minako) “Did he tell you what was happening?”
Byleth hesitated at first, but he responded with a nod.
(Akechi) “That’s just damn great...”
(Akira) “We should probably let the others know you’re alright.”
The Persona users got up and left, though a few stayed behind.
(Minako) “Um...i-it’s good seeing you again, Byleth.”
(Minato) “It’s probably the best news we’ve gotten in a while.”
(Akira) “We’ll see you outside.”
(Byleth) “...Thanks.”
Byleth couldn’t look them in the eye as they spoke. He wasn’t sure he could look at anyone, making him anxious to face House Isekai again.
...
(Claude) “Home sweet home.”
The Golden Deer and Investigation Team finally arrived back in Derdriu, and walked over the hill to the gate.
(Percy) “Milord!”
(Claude) “Hey, Percy. Open the gates for us?”
(Percy) “Of course. You’ll be pleased to know your guests have arrived just last night.”
(Claude) “Go on ahead without me, I’ll be telling the guards to prepare for the worst.”
Everyone nodded and did as he asked.
...
Doomguy and the Ashen Wolves strolled around town due to the lack of having anything better to do.
(Balthus) “Man, anything would be better than just calmly waiting for the Church or Those Who Slither to get a drop on us.”
(Yuri) “Patience big guy. We can’t afford to go hunting when we don’t even know what the hell’s going on. Our time for fighting will come soon enough.”
(Constance) “And what a fantastic time it will be! Fodlan’s fate will be back where it belongs, us!”
(Hapi) “Well we also gotta worry about what the three nations will do after this without Teary and the others keeping them in check. Am I right?”
Hapi turned to Doomguy for at least a nod or shrug. She got neither as he stared to their side.
(Doomguy) “...”
(Hapi) “Hey, Teary, everything alright?”
Doomguy frowned. He thought he saw something move out of their field of vision.
He would have left it alone, but knowing their situation...
Doomguy held up a hand and brought out his shotgun, motioning the Ashen Wolves to head back to the building.
(Yuri) “That’s...discouraging.”
(Hapi) “We should get back to the others.”
They nodded and broke out into a light jog.
...
Byleth staggered out the door of the infirmary to see a few familiar faces.
(Sharon) “Master Byleth, it is good to see you.”
(Cocytus) “WELCOME BACK.”
(Sara) “Jeez, about time.”
(Towa) “Instructor!”
(Angelica) “Yo.”
(Megumi) “Thank goodness you’re awake.”
(Sitri) “Byleth...”
(Byleth) “Thanks. Where is everyone?”
(Sara) “Doomguy went out with the Ashen Wolves to just take a look around the city while the others are here and there in the building.”
(Byleth) “And Lahabrea?”
(Angelica) “In a room upstairs, alone. He said not to call him until Claude was here.”
Knock knock!
(Yu) “Hello? It’s the In-...!!! Oh!”
(Towa) “Yu!”
The rest of the Investigation Team and Golden Deer came through the door.
(Hilda) “Well, well!”
(Yosuke) “Hoho MAN, you guys are a sight for sore eyes!”
Yu took Byleth’s hand and shook it firmly.
(Yu) “Good to see you again, sir.”
(Byleth) “Likewise. Sorry it took so long.”
(Leonie) “Better late than never!”
The other staff smiled as they caught up with the Investigation Team.
(Megumi) “Yuki and the others will be so happy to see you again!”
(Cocytus) “SO, WE HAVE EVERYONE TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN. WHERE IS CLAUDE?”
The door opened once again as if on cue.
(Claude) “Kept ya waiting long?”
He smiled as the rest of House Isekai started to come down the stairs, followed by the Blue Lions and Black Eagles.
(Dimitri) “Claude!”
(Edelgard) “For once, I am relieved to see you.”
(Claude) “Jeez, you’re gonna make a guy blush with compliments like that.”
(Yu) “Long time no see everyone.”
(Yuuri) “YOU GUYS ARE OKAY!”
(Rean) “Hah, I don’t think we had to doubt that, Yuki.”
(Akira) “You guys are more stubborn than us.”
(Minato) “Hey.”
(Minako) “House Isekai is all here again!”
(Ainz) “Unfortunate that we cannot celebrate...”
He examined the room and did a mental head count.
(Claude) “All that’s left should be...”
(Yuri) “That would be us.”
The Ashen Wolves and Doomguy showed up behind Claude, waving.
This was the first time Sitri had seen everyone together like this. It made her smile, knowing how big the family taking care of Byleth was.
(Sitri) “The gang’s all here now.”
(Lahabrea’s voice) “So it would seem.”
[Tears in the Rain - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers]
Everyone looked up the stairs to see Lahabrea leaning against a wall, with Sothis floating beside him.
(Sothis) “Well, you all wanted answers? We’ll give them to you.”
Lahabrea nodded and looked at everyone. Part of him wanted to smile, seeing everyone united like this.
But they were far from being in a happy mood.
(Kazuma) “First of all, just who the fuck are you? You know our past and have your own Sothis, yet we only know our Byleth!”
(Lahabrea) “My name is Byleth Eisner. I am the real one. The real one you’ve seen in all those flashes when your voices echo in your heads.”
(Minako) “That would explain why it feels so real but...We’ve always known our Byleth to be the real one, what makes you so different?”
(Sothis) “Those voices are your past memories. With us two. Up until just this time, you had always been with us everytime you appeared-”
(Aqua) “Woah woah woah, hang on! We’ve only been here once, what are you going on about ‘everytime we appeared’?”
(Lahabrea) “Some of you are aware of the ‘Divine Pulse’ ability, right?”
(Emma) “That time reversal that Sothis and Byleth do?”
Lahabrea nodded. Most of House Isekai looked confused but those who weren’t affected by it could follow.
(Lahabrea) “You all first arrived individually. First it was only Kazuma’s group. We went through 6 years of hell together, and when the war was finished, we were sent back right to the beginning, when Dimitri, Claude, and Edelgard arrived to Remire Village. Then taking Kazuma’s place at the next loop was Class VII, and so on. Time forcefully resets everytime you go home...and I cannot begin to fathom why.”
(Yu) “So, how is Sothis here? If that’s the case, every loop Sothis would have fused with you, right?”
(Sothis) “It’s because I fused with him that I am here right now. I was not truly gone the first time we fused, but it seems whatever force is at work keeps bringing me back.”
(Lahabrea) “And it was during the final loop we did, we reset time ourselves using the Tower at Zanado.”
(Rean) “But, there wasn’t a tower when we were there.”
(Akira) “No I...I think there was?”
Yu turned to Akira.
(Yu) “Was it half made out of what looked like stone and scifi tech?”
(Minako) “Yeah actually, how did you?-”
(Claude) “We confirmed the tower’s presence ourselves. Had a nice visit in it too...”
(Yuuri) “Um, what actually is that tower?”
(Lahabrea) “For now, it’s best to hear it yourselves. Honestly, not even we understand it.”
Lahabrea pulled out a crystal and it began its playback.
“I don’t know if anyone will be seeing this message, whether that be myself or anyone else who comes into this godforsaken tower but…My name is Byleth Eisner. Son of Jeralt Eisner.”
...
Everyone listened to the entire message, and when it finished, most of them were left in a state of shock.
(Lahabrea) “Since you went into the Tower, I can only assume you saw the skies turn a pale white?”
(Claude) “Something like that. Even in Inaba it followed.”
(Miki) “Inaba? As in-”
(Yu) “Our town, yes. We were wanting to say that tower in Zanado started showed up and is releasing shadows onto the real world.”
The Persona Users turned pale.
(Yukari) “S-Shadows are loose right now in all of our homes?!”
(Lahabrea) “So far, just the Persona User’s worlds. But that won’t be for long. Which brings us to why we have you all gathered under a single banner.”
(Sothis) “You all were NEVER meant to be here. At all. Whatever our previous selves did, it caused a catastrophic rip in reality, at least that’s what we’re guessing.”
(Lahabrea) “And we only made it worse by using Divine Pulse ourselves. It’s why House Isekai exists.”
(Megumi) “S-So...our existence here was a mistake?”
It pained Lahabrea to do so, but he nodded.
(Lahabrea) “Yes. And since you all have been here for so long, it’s now starting to affect your worlds.”
The crystal Lahabrea was holding quickly shifted into a reflection that displayed Tokyo, Tatsumi Port Island, and Inaba, the tower being the most noticeable thing in the reflection.
(Lahabrea) “The longer you are here, the worse this effect will become. Our worlds are merging. All of ours.”
(Naoto) “That...makes sense! It’s why Dojima was able to understand Claude and the others!”
Now, it was the School-Living Club’s turn to feel sick.
(Kurumi) “Then...that means...?!”
(Yuuri) “The infection...!”
(Lahabrea) “Will be in Fodlan, yes.”
(Miki) “W-What can we do to stop it?!”
(Sothis) “We honestly don’t know. Our plan right now is to stop whatever remnants of the world we destroyed. Those Who Slither and the Church has technology from that time, and is whats making them able to wage this war.”
Sara turned to Byleth.
(Sara) “...So where’s our Byleth come into this? He’s been quiet this entire time.”
Byleth looked away.
(Lahabrea) “...You saw the Angels at Enbarr. What their infection does to people. It’s affecting Byleth as well.”
(Everyone) !!!
(Sitri) “T-Then that means?!”
(Byleth) “I’m slowly turning into an Angel....”
(Lahabrea) “I’ve done what I can to delay the process, but its why Byleth is able to permanently kill Inquisitors. But...”
(Byleth) “So far we haven’t been able to find a cure. I will die if it is not found.”
(Megumi) “WHAT?!”
(Lahabrea) “Which is why we need to strike now. If we can stop Those who Slither and the Church before his transformation and our worlds merge.”
Yuri frowned as the light from the window blinded him.
(Yuri) “Looks like we’ll get that chance faster than you think.”
[Will and Reason - Tales of Berseria OST]
Cyril and Alois walked towards the gate as the skies turned into a pale white, soldiers rushing to the gate.
(Percy) “Hey, what’s the meaning of this?! You are not authorized to be in Alliance territory-”
(Cyril) “By order of Lady Rhea, we are to execute the Warrior of Darkness! Any resistance will be met with force, do not interfere!”
The church soldiers kicked open the gates and stormed Derdriu, surrounding all exits.
(Alois) “If we do see him...let me speak first, Cyril.”
(Cyril) “Fine. Make it quick if you are able.”
Everyone looked out the window, grabbing their weapons.
(Claude) “Get Judith and the rest of our forces ready. I don’t think I can talk my way out this one.”
(Edelgard) “I don’t think there’s much point hiding your involvement with us. Perhaps if the three of our forces went out and confronted them, we could buy some time.”
(Yu) “That could work.”
(Rean) “Whatever we’re doing, just make it fast!”
(Claude) “Edelgard, let’s go with yours. Just follow my lead though.”
Dimitri and Edelgard nodded. House Isekai and the Ashen Wolves snuck further into the building as the three classes marched out the building.
(Cyril) “Claude von Riegan.”
(Claude) “Hey, Cyril, Alois. Been a hot minute since we saw each other, yeah? I take it you got promoted to Inquisitors-”
(Alois) “Where is Byleth?”
(Claude) “...Byleth? What makes you think he’d be here-”
(Cyril) “DO YOU THINK US FOOLS?! WHERE IS HE?!”
Dimitri and Edelgard looked to their sides to see soldiers closing in on them, weapons drawn.
Hubert held up a hand to not retaliate just yet.
(Alois) “Lord Dimitri, Emperor Edelgard...I was under the impression you were fighting one another.”
(Claude) “They are here in neutral territory to call a truce, so to speak.”
(Alois) “...And I was also under the impression that his highness was kidnapped by members of House Isekai. Clearly I was mistaken.”
Cyril frowned and grabbed his weapon.
(Cyril) “You are aware of what the Church’s sentence is for treason, correct?”
(Claude) “Sure am.”
No one made a move, both sides were waiting to see what would happen first.
(Alois) !? “What in the...?”
Edelgard noticed a bright light coming from her and realized a blue flame surrounded her and the other Black Eagles members.
Before they knew it, their clothes transformed, all the members wearing a mask and costume.
Edelgard was now in her Flame Emperor outfit, with the bottom half of her mask gone.
(Dedue) “Isn’t that just like...?”
(Hilda) “Akira?!”
(Cyril) “The Phantom Thieves?!”
(Edelgard) “Well, I guess that’s as good as a cue as any-”
[Tempest of Seasons (Rain) - Fire Emblem: Three Houses OST]
Edelgard unsheathed Aymr and swung it at the two, causing the debris beneath them to explode.
Everyone else followed suit and began their assault as Alois and Cyril barely dodged Edelgard’s attack.
Before any of the Church knights could respond, many of them were picked off by the gun wielders of House Isekai, who drove them further up the street.
Alliance Soldiers intercepted them and attacked with swords and bows, leaving Alois and Cyril to the classes.
Claude fired an arrow at Cyril, but was deflected by Alois’s siheld.
Dimitri and Edelgard charged in and tried to attack from the sides, but Cyril blocked Dimitri as his wyvern swooped in and knocked back Edelgard.
Hubert snapped his fingers and a massive black fireball fired from his tome and blew up a group of knights, as Dedue and Hilda crushed ones that came too close into the floor.
Another group of church knights came around the corner and were about to charge before being blasted into the wall by a light spell.
One of them tried to get back up before his leg suddenly in the opposite direction, making him fall over as blood burst out of his throat.
Kazuma became visible, taking his knife out the Church Knight as he turned behind him.
(Kazuma) “DARKNESS!”
Darkness charged in and swung her sword at the knocked down soldiers, hitting the pillar nearby, making it tip over and crush them.
(Darkness) “Wha-BUT I HIT THEM!”
(Kazuma) “Fuck it, doesn’t matter, keep going!”
Aqua and Megumin followed behind Kazuma and Darkness, causing mayhem for the Knights.
Several Alliance soldiers were outmatched by the Church knights, injured on the floor about to be killed.
Only a few of them were able to be saved as Lorenz, Lysithea, Caspar, and Sylvain killed the knights attacking them.
Lorenz and Lysithea opened their tomes and fired several Thorons, piercing through their helmets and blasting their heads off. Their bodies quickly dissolved into white dust, with Caspar punching a hole through a knight and Sylvain ran over one with his horse.
(Caspar) “Hey, we need a medic over here!”
Mercedes, Linhardt, and Marianne ran over and began to heal the soldiers they could as the others ran in from behind.
Linhardt raised his head and saw a few of the group running on top of the walls surrounding the city.
The Denizens of Nazarick, Class VII, and the Phantom Thieves looked around them to see the fighting continued on the outside, the advantage being on the Knights’ side.
(Ainz) “We cannot afford to retreat and lose the only city where we have refuge! Do whatever it takes!”
(Albedo) “Yes, Lord Ainz!”
Ainz began giving directions to the rest of his group as they ran, giving himself and two others a necklace of flight.
(Ainz) “Cocytus, Pandora’s Actor, with me, we go after any reinforcements that may be on their way!”
They flew off far past the main gate, leaving the Phantom Thieves and Class VII on the walls.
(Elliot) “L-Look, some of the knights made it to the walls!”
(Rean) “Class VII, take them out!”
(Sara) “They’re only monsters now, so aim to kill!”
(Class VII) “Yeah!” “Got it!” “Understood.”
(Akira) “Leave closing the gates to us. Joker, out.”
He winked at Rean and gracefully leapt off the walls and onto the roofs, the Phantom Thieves using their Personas to get around.
Lahabrea and Byleth saw the Phantom Thieves hop over their head as they looked at the battle.
(Lahabrea) “You know the deal. Captains first, then get away before you’re spotted. No witnesses.”
Byleth nodded as they moved across the shadows, though Byleth couldn’t help but take a second to glance at the group near them.
The Ashen Wolves and School-Living Club, and Sitri were helping the civilians evacuate as S.E.E.S, the Investigation Team and Doomguy protected them from incoming knights.
(Kanji) “How do these assholes even have these many soldiers?!”
(Akihiko) “The fight they’re putting up is a lot fiercer than 5 years ago!”
Their personas killed the knights with ease, though with everyone they got rid of, five more seemed to take his place.
The School-Living Club felt out of their element here as arrows whizzed by everyone's’ head, but still they persevered.
(Megumi) “Get to the main capital building, you’ll be safe there!”
Kurumi did what she could to slow down any of the knights with her shovel by getting the jump on them, but she could already feel eyes on her. Her luck wouldn’t last forever.
(Yuuri) “P-Please keep your head down and move to that building over there, we’ll protect you!”
(Woman) “T-Thank you dear!”
(Hapi) “Shut up and get moving.”
The woman nodded and did as she was told.
Yuuri and Miki were the farthest from the group, helping out a child who was hiding underneath the carriage.
(Miki) “No knights are around right now, you have to get moving!”
(Yuki) “We’ll protect you, take my hand!”
The child nodded and took Yuki’s hand. Once he was out, his eyes went wide as he pointed behind them.
(Child) “W-WATCH OUT!”
Yuki and Miki turned around to see several figures in black fire a spell at them.
They were too slow to react and took the hit directly, sending them flying back into the carriage.
Megumi got distracted when she saw what happened to them, causing her to panic.
Megumi ran over to the two, grabbing a nearby board to attack the hooded figures before she stopped moving entirely, feeling something go through her stomach.
(Sitri) “MEGUMI!”
[Those Who Sow Darkness - Fire Emblem: Three Houses OST]
An Agarthan took the dagger out of her as he filled the gap with some dark magic, causing her to scream in pain.
Doomguy spun around at the noise and saw what was happening and immediately jumped into action.
(Yu) “Huh?- NO!”
(Minako) “Where did they-?!”
(Minato) “GOD DAMN IT!”
(Yuri) “BEHIND US, AGARTHANS!”
Doomguy cleaved the Agarthan in half with his wrist blade and threw his body at the mages who were getting close to Yuki and Miki, about to do the same thing to Megumi.
The Persona Users began engaging the ones who weren’t hit as the Knights backed off.
(Alois) “Those who Slither as well?!”
(Cyril) “Tch, the heretics developing the powers of House Isekai?! We have to go back and warn Lady Rhea, KNIGHTS, RETREAT, WE ARE OUTMATCHED!”
The knights immediately began to pull back. Alois sighed, hoping to see Byleth, but held his tongue and followed orders.
The skies turned back to a normal color as the Church withdrew, though it was far from good news.
Doomguy ran over and grabbed Yuki and Miki and set them next to Megumi.
(Yuuri) “No no no no!”
(Kurumi) “W-What’s happening, how did they get behind us?!”
(Sitri) “Is she alright?!”
Doomguy didn’t respond as he immediately began scanning the three for injuries.
For Yuki and Miki, it appeared worse than it actually was, the worst being a few burn marks, but for Megumi...
Something was spreading throughout her body, but it didn’t look like anything he’s seen.
Everyone stopped fighting when they saw the knights pull back and saw the Agarthans teleport in.
(Agarthan) “There you all are...Saves us the trouble of hunting you down individually.”
The Agarthans went to the dead and raised their hand to them, deploying a black fog that went into the bodies that made them shake violently, dissolving into a black goo as their essence went to the center where Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude was.
(Agarthan) “I see the Church has their own version of our spell. Interesting, but inferior. Honestly, we have no idea how they got their hands on this, but thank you for bringing it to our attention.”
He began laughing as all the black substance was forming into a colossal shape behind him, even ones from outside the gate were getting in.
Some bits and pieces were left off from bodies that were too far, and began rising from the dead.
(Kurumi) “Not again!”
Kurumi raised her shovel and attacked one of the creatures by dislodging the shovel’s head into its neck.
The creature’s neck twisted 180 to face Kurumi, making her back off.
Doomguy gave Kurumi a pistol as he cocked his shotgun and blew the creature into pieces.
They looked around them and they were starting to get surrounded.
(Kurumi) “Do your thing, I got us covered!”
Doomguy nodded and began rip and tearing into the creatures, leaving Kurumi and Yuuri to deal with the stragglers. Yuuri grabbed Kurumi’s shovel while Sitri grabbed a sword on the floor.
She had no idea how to use it, but that wouldn’t stop her.
The Persona Users and Ashen Wolves were too busy trying to evacuate the citizens and were holding off the stragglers on their own as well.
Megumi slowly opened her eyes and saw what was going on. There was no way anyone could spare the help in time before they got overrun.
(Megumi) I have to...!
She got up, though every fiber of her body was in utter pain doing so.
(Megumi) “Kurumi....h-hand me the pistol.”
(Kurumi) “What?! But-”
(Megumi) “It’s...not, a request!”
She grabbed her and Yuuri’s shoulders.
(Megumi) “Get Miki and Yuki out of here, now...! Sitri, watch over them for me?”
(Sitri) “Y-Yes.”
They reluctantly nodded and did as she told. As they ran, a few of them tried to chase them before Megumi caught the creatures attention by blasting their heads off.
(Megumi) “Everyone...please, be safe...”
Clenching her teeth in pain, she thanked Doomguy for having a pistol that didn’t have to reload as she gave cover fire to her students.
...
(Dimitri) “YAAAAGH!”
Dimitri stuck his lance into the blob before it could form anything, but when he pulled it out nothing happened.
(Agarthan) “HAH! Your feeble weapons will do nothing to our creation! Accept your fate and die like the dogs you are!”
The blob finally formed into a bipedal monster, it had massive claws on its hands, and spikes on its back. Six eyeballs covered the left and right side of its body and It’s head was something akin to a bull as it used the horns to charge into the fountain, sending the three and concrete into the air.
They landed next to each other, and got up quickly, trying to find any weak spots.
(Claude) “Any plans? Edelgard, you seem to have Akira’s power, can you do that crazy Persona thing?!”
(Edelgard) “N-No, it only affects the clothes, I’m a bit faster and stronger but other than that, nothing!”
(Dimitri) “I have nothing on me!”
The Agarthan continued to laugh until he saw something out of the corner of his eye walk in from the shadows of a building.
[Boss Theme #2 - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers OST]
(Byleth) “You’re going to pay for what you did.”
(Agarthan) “T-THE WARRIOR OF DARKNESS?! KILL HIM, KILL HIM NOW!”
Before the Agarthan could do anything, his vision suddenly went flying into the air, and as it landed, he could see his own body on the rock, headless.
The body fell onto the floor as Lahabrea stepped into view, deactivating the whip function on his sword.
(Lahabrea) “Everyone else is currently dealing with the Agarthans. Big one is left to us, no objections?”
(Byleth) “None at all.”
Byleth and Lahabrea struck as one, going for the legs which only made their weapons bounce off.
Claude fired several arrows at various parts of the body, seeing what would connect.
The arrows that seemed to have any affect were ones shot at the eyes on the body.
Only one arrow pierced through one of the left eyes on its torso as it screamed in pain, and used its massive arms to block the rest.
(Dimitri) “Seems a lot smarter than the one at Enbarr!”
(Edelgard) “Let’s hope its not as stubborn!”
Dimitri and Edelgard charged head on to the bull-like creature, with it charging in response.
Combining their strength, they were barely able to block its charge, driving their feet deep into the concrete, making every muscle in their body burn from the sheer force.
Lahabrea and Byleth hopped onto the arms and plunged their swords into the eye sockets of the head.
It screamed in pain, but didn’t stagger it as much as they were hoping to, in fact it didn’t at all.
The bull rose its head, sending Dimitri and Edelgard into the air as it grabbed Byleth and Lahabrea.
Before it could do anything, Sothis teleported behind the bull and summoned a meteor above it, the meteor smashing it over the head making it drop the two in pain.
Dimitri plunged his lance into the head as he landed, holding on for dear life as it swung violently around trying to get him off.
Edelgard barely managed to catch herself as she landed, trying to figure out how to get close without being crushed.
Claude seized the opportunity and fired arrows into the eyes on the body.
He managed to get three on the right side, but the creature was quick to block the rest.
(Byleth) “DIMITRI, DRIVE IT INTO THE FLOOR!”
Dimitri roared with rage as took out his lance and smashed the bull’s head, the impact of his hit forcing the bull to slam onto the floor.
The eyes blinked with confusion as Edelgard, Lahabrea, and Byleth took out the remaining three eyes, this time making the bull flail violently, its limbs akin to a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Edelgard was hit by the fist and was sent flying into Claude while Byleth and Lahabrea jumped out the way in time.
Dimitri got to its left side, and was about to strike one of the eyes before all five looked at him and a fist almost crushed Dimitri.
He fell onto the floor after narrowingly dodging the attack while Byleth and Lahabrea ran behind him.
The bull covered its left side with both arms, circling around them.
(Lahabrea) “Don’t think we have anything!”
(Byleth) “How about your Sothis?”
(Sothis) “If I did, would’ve done it by now!”
An explosion suddenly struck the side of the bull, making it tumble over and almost fall again before it was pelted by more explosives.
Doomguy came into view with a rocket launcher, firing rapidly into the bull.
The bull was ready to charge into Doomguy before a massive shadow enveloped his own, causing it to look up.
Valimar dropped from the sky and dug its greatsword into the bull’s chest.
(Rean’s voice) “INSTRUCTOR BYLETH!”
Byleth and Lahabrea immediately hopped into action activating the whips and swinging violently at the eyes, carving them into pieces.
Finally, the bull stopped moving as it exploded into black fog, with the other zombie-like creatures that spawned following suit.
They took a deep breath and sheathed their swords at the exact time, in the exact same way. If anyone had any doubt about Lahabrea being Byleth, it was quelled then and there.
(Byleth) “We need to do a head count and check if everyone’s okay-”
(Sitri) “Byleth!”
Sitri ran up to him, with the School-Living Club in tow. The two noticed that Miki and Yuki were hanging onto Yuuri and Kurumi’s arm, the injuries very apparent.
(Lahabrea) “What happened!?”
...
(Aqua) “TURN UNDEAD!”
Another spell blasted apart the creatures, but still more kept coming.
(Kazuma) “HOW MANY FUCKING THINGS OF THESE ARE THERE?!”
(Darkness) “Aqua, how’s your mana looking?!”
(Aqua) “Getting a bit drained here!”
Megumin hit a few back with her staff, looking extremely angry.
(Megumin) “GO AWAY DAMN YOU!”
(Kazuma) “Megumin, we may need you to-”
The creatures suddenly all dropped dead, and faded into a black fog.
(Kazuma) “...Do nothing.”
Everyone took a sigh of relief and looked at the plaza.
(Kazuma) “Let’s see, Valimar and Slayer are there. Pretty safe to assume whatever it was over there is super dead.”
(Darkness) “All the civilians were taken care of correct?”
(Aqua) “Yeah, a good chunk of us saw to that-”
cough cough!
(Megumin) “Heck was that?”
(Kazuma) “That sounded like...”
His heart dropped.
(Kazuma) “Megumi.”
[Yasashii Megu-nee Arigatou - Gakkou Gurashi OST]
The four of them quickly ran to the source of the coughing and saw Megumi laying against the wall, coughing violently as she dropped the pistol onto the floor.
Parts of her dress had holes and blood marks over it. Her blood.
(Megumin) “MEGU-NEE!”
(Darkness) “Aqua!”
Aqua smiled as she put her hand on Megumi’s arm.
(Aqua) “Don’t worry, we’ll have you right as rain!”
A healing spell emitted from her arm, but it had no effect.
(Aqua) “H-Huh? Why can’t I-”
Megumi grabbed Aqua’s arm and smiled, tears running down her face.
(Megumin) “I...don’t think your healing can fix me up this time...”
(Kazuma) “Hey, don’t be playing the hero, you’re way too nice for that shit!-”
Megumi moved her arm to reveal a hole in her stomach. It was then Aqua finally saw what was happening.
The infection was spreading throughout her body. It was some unholy combination of her original infection, the agarthan’s, and a third light-like source she couldn’t identify.
(Darkness) “H-HELP US, OVER HERE! WE NEED A HEALER!”
The rest of House Isekai and the three Houses finally got to the scene and saw what was happening to her.
Sara, Byleth, the School-Living Club, and Sitri ran to her side, while making way for the healers.
(Sara) “Get to helping her already!”
(Byleth) “Do what you can, please!”
First, Marianne, Mercedes, and Linhardt tried using their best healing spell to no effect, then the Persona Users tried.
(Morgana) “Damn it, why isn’t it working?!”
(Yukiko) “T-There’s got to be something we have that can!”
(Yukari) “Can anyone get a sense of how bad the-”
Yukari stopped when she saw Emma tearing up, covering her mouth.
(Kurumi) “H-Hey, Emma! You can see magic crap right, what’s happening to her?!”
(Emma) “She’s...not going to make it.”
(Everyone) !!!
(Miki) “T-THAT CAN’T BE RIGHT! PLEASE, CAN’T SOMEONE DO SOMETHING?!”
(Ainz) “I used magic detection and...there’s nothing we can do. No amount of healing can stop the infection. I...I am sorry.”
Doomguy scanned Megumi with his visor, but it came up as red.
Lahabrea and Sothis looked on with regret in their eyes.
(Yuuri) “Come on, you know something about this right, why aren’t you?!-”
Megumi grabbed Yuuri’s hand and caught everyone’s attention.
(Megumi) “Don’t worry...This was going to happen either way.”
(Yuki) “But, I don’t understand! Why?! We finally got to see you again and-”
The School-Living Club reached for their head as a sharp pain overwhelmed them.
(Megumi) “You all...got along just fine without me before...And I know you can do so again.”
Megumi began coughing up blood as she struggled to keep her eyes free of tears.
Byleth used his cape to wipe them away.
(Megumi) “Thank you...Byleth.”
She barely had the strength to laugh as she looked up into the skies.
(Megumi) “I...I guess whatever was in my body originally hadn’t gone away. It’s...messing with whatever the Agarthan transformation method is, making it way slower, otherwise I would’ve instantly turned...”
Megumi turned to the School-Living Club members first.
(Megumi) “Kurumi, Yuuri, Yuki...It was so good to see you again. Even if it didn’t last long...I’m glad we could be normal for a little bit together at Garreg Mach. And Miki...Thank you for sticking with them, and protecting Yuki...”
Megumi’s skin on her left arm slowly started to turn into a darker color.
She turned to Byleth, Sitri, and Sara.
(Megumi) “Sara, Byleth...Y-You were some of the strangest co-workers I’ve ever had...but I would never trade that time for anything...And Sitri...? It was an honor...being with your son and husband...”
Yuki sobbed the hardest, holding onto Megumi’s arm shaking it.
(Yuki) “NO NO NO! WE’VE ALREADY LOST YOU BEFORE! NOW THAT YOU’RE BACK, YOU CAN’T JUST LEAVE AGAIN! IT’S NOT FAIR!”
(Megumi) “I...Think I’m about to...”
She began coughing up blood again, which Byleth wiped away again.
(Megumi) “There’s only one way to stop the infection...Please don’t let them watch.”
Megumi looked at Sara’s pistol.
She closed her eyes and nodded.
(Megumi) “Yuki, Kurumi, Yuuri, Miki...You all will be fine. I promise.”
Sitri had to grab Yuki and pull her away, as she was kicking violently to try and get back to Megumi.
(Yuki) “NO, MEGU-NEE! MEGU-NEEEEE!”
(Yuuri) “Thank you, Megu-nee...”
(Kurumi) “Thank you, again...”
(Miki) “It was nice to finally meet you, Megu-nee...”
The three walked away, unable to watch what was coming, Sitri escorting them as well.
All of Class VII, the Persona Users, and Kazuma’s group had to follow, unable to watch.
The Denizens of Nazarick bowed their heads in respect, and followed Ainz, away from this.
This was a private moment for the ones closest to her.
The only ones who stayed were Towa, Angelica, Cocytus, Sharon, Doomguy, Lahabrea, and Sothis.
Megumi took off her cross necklace and gave it to Byleth.
(Towa) “Instructor Sakura...T-Thank you.”
(Angelica) “...You’re too nice, ya know that? We’re gonna miss you.”
(Cocytus) “IT WAS AN HONOR FIGHTING AT YOUR SIDE.”
(Sharon) “You and your students will be my family as much as the Reinfords...”
(Doomguy) “...Thanks.”
Lahabrea had to close his eyes, alongside Sothis. Sara and Byleth stood up, and she pointed her pistol at Megumi’s head.
(Byleth) “...Goodbye, Megumi.”
(Sara) “...See you the next time around.”
Sara’s hand started to shake, unable to keep a steady aim.
Megumi’s hand held onto Sara’s, Byleth’s hand eventually joining in.
They all closed their eyes, and Byleth helped Sara pull the trigger.
...
BANG!
...
...
...
Thud...!
When everyone opened their eyes, they saw light particles coming off Megumi. Her body slowly started to fade away into a light blue dust, disappearing in front of them.
There was no more blood, or signs of rot on her, and the last thing they saw on Megumi’s face was a smile.
Then, she finally disappeared, a quiet shattering noise emitting as her body turned into white and blue dust.
When she was gone, Sara fell to her knees, sobbing, slowly joined in by Towa, Angelica, then Byleth.
Doomguy, Sharon and Cocytus bowed their heads in respect.
Lahabrea started to walk away, tears in his eyes...

Bathed in the red of the sun What were you thinking? Filling your eyelids to the brim with tears You tried to play it off, saying, "It's so pretty".
Without a doubt I always thought that these days Would continue on and on....
The sky we look upon, Is watching us from far, far away Merely silent, without change. Grasping hands as fellow lost ones, We're no longer alone. Looking to the opposite shore of this ending world, We can see our dawn on the horizon,
We can see it We can see it So put on a smile...

They say that time heals scars but the person who came up with that obviously never lost the person he loved and cherished the most for if they had, then they wouldn’t have said such a careless thing.
You were strongly reminded by that quote as you stood amongst hundreds of Konoha villagers in anticipation for Kakashi’s coronation as Konohakagure’s sixth Hokage.
Everyone had been surprised by the news but they were happy to have such a strong and responsible man as a leader, to no longer feel weak and unprotected but safe and even feared by other villages. Everyone was excited for this day.
But not you.
You were saddened by this.
Suddenly, those around you cheered and applauded as loudly as they can as Tsunade, the former Hokage, stepped onto the podium to address the villagers with a formal goodbye.
Your heart squeezed tightly once your eyes spotted Kakashi standing in the distance, face hidden behind his mask but his eye held no emotion in them.
There was a lump in your throat and you tried to swallow it away but your throat was as dry as sand paper, making it painful for you to swallow.
Tsunade’s words fell on deaf ears as tears filled the corner of your eyes and, without even knowing it, you were pushing yourself out of the crowed and somewhere far away from the coronation. The last thing you heard was the crowed screaming and cheering as Kakashi stepped onto the podium next to Tsunade.
-
You’ve been walking for hours. How much exactly, you weren’t sure. All that you knew was that your feet were moving for a very long time and soon you found yourself along the outskirts of the Naka River and the sun setting into the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of red and oranges, reminding you of that special day you don’t think you’d ever forget.
It was the day of Rin’s funeral and everyone had gathered to bid the young Kunoichi goodbye.
Although you were a regular civilain and didn’t understand the severity of the loss or the sacrifice she had made, you understood the tragedy the village was facing, especially your childhood neighbor Hatake Kakashi.
Kakashi had wandered off towards the end of the funeral and didn’t bother to stick around for the aftermath of the event.
Knowing how much Kakashi had suffered and the people he had lost in his younger days, you bit your lip in worry as you set off to find him.
Eventually, you found him sitting on a cliff overlooking Konoha, the sun was setting in the distance and it cast the village in an orange hue.
The young boy had his knees pulled up and pressed to his chest while his chin rested on his arms atop of them.
You were positive that there were no words that would comfort the boy so you did the next best thing, you sat next to him with your arm around him and listened to Kakashi as he silently cried.
A tear escaped and rolled down your cheek at the memory but you quickly wiped it away and continued in your aimless walk.
There were rustling sounds coming from one of the bushes in the distance that made you stop in your tracks, your heart beating loudly in your ears in anticipation. Holding your breath, you slowly inched forward and was startled when a small white rabbit jumped from within the bushes.
Your shoulders sagged and a shaky exhale escaped your lips. The small white rabbit stared at you in curiosity, it’s small red eyes blinking up at you.
You offered the harmless creature a small smile but it jumped off deeper into the forest. You watched after it and remembered an early morning similar to this encounter.
When Minato and Kushina died, the entirety of Konoha were in mourn. But no one experienced such a great loss like Kakashi. Right when things were finally starting to get normal and Kakashi had the opportunity to experience what having a loving family was like, his parental figures die, one in battle while the other after giving birth.
Your eyes never wandered off of Kakashi as you followed him through the woods. You knew that Kakashi would run off faster than the speed of light if he wanted to but you were glad that he was allowing you to be close to him. Though, that didn’t mean you didn’t worry over the boy.
He had just returned from evacuating the villagers into safety after the sudden attack of the Kyuubi when the former Hokage had informed Kakashi of Minato and Kushina’s deaths.
Kakashi had no reaction. His eyes didn’t well up with tears, he didn’t let out a cry of anguish, not even questioning the Hokage. He just accepted their deaths and walked out of the office.
You had run into him as you were helping your father clean up your mini market when the silver haired teenager walked by. Your eyes lit up and you were about to greet him with a bright smile but when you noticed his hunched form and his hands buried deep into his pockets, you knew there was something wrong.
You quickly ran off to catch up with Kakashi and when you were within reach, you griped his shoulder and turned him around to face you. The sight that greeted you shook you to your core. His eyes were filled to the brim with tears and his cheeks flushed a deep red color. His mask was soaking wet at the never ending tears cascading down his cheeks.
“They’re gone.”
Harshly, you rubbed your eyes to will the memory away.
You’ve known Kakashi since you were a little girl and for as long as you’ve known the silver haired man, he had always been stalked by tragedy. Wherever he went, whomever he had cherished and valued, tragedy would clutch its greedy fingers on them and snatch them away from Kakashi. It happened with his biological parents, his best friends and then with his parental figures.
It was too much for the teenager and it made perfect sense why he ended up joining ANBU.
“You can’t be serious.”
It had been two weeks since Minato and Kushina’s deaths. The village of Konoha continued on with their lives while the third Hokage returned to his rule.
It was early morning and you were manning the cashier at your father’s mini market. It was a slow and boring day with nothing to entertain you other than a trashy Shinobi magazine with a ‘Top 10 list of the Hottest Shinobi in Konoha.” clutched between your fingers.
It was so quiet that you were about to fall asleep when the door opened and the bells signaled the arrival of a new costumer. Your sleepy expression turned into one of joy as Kakashi walked in and stopped in front of you.
“Kakashi!” Your lips turned upwards into a bright smile, “What can I do for you?”
The teenager said nothing, his hands deep in his pockets, as his eyes scanned the shelves of chewing gum and cigarettes behind you.
“I’m joining ANBU.” He said simply. His voice so quiet that you were certain you misheard him.
You were a civilian and you didn’t know much about the Shinobi world but everyone knew of ANBU. Knew the excruciating and intense training Shinobi went through in order to be masterful and be higher in ranks.
Your smile faltered, “I’m sorry?”
Kakashi’s visible brown eye met yours, “Danzo recruited me to join ANBU.”
Before you could say anything else, Kakashi had turned around and exited the market, leaving you in a stunned daze.
Quickly, you snapped out it and followed after Kakashi.
“Oi, Kakashi! Wait!”
But the boy continued on walking.
Angered, you ran up to him and took hold of his shoulder and forced him around to face you, “What are you doing?”
Kakashi avoided eye contact and said nothing. Your angry aura and the hurt in your eyes ineffective to him.
“Are you seriously joining ANBU or are you playing some mean joke because it isn’t funny.”
“I’m serious.” His eye met yours and you were surprised by the harshness in it. Never in your life had Kakashi looked at you that way. It was so sudden and unfamiliar that you dropped your hand from his shoulder and took a step back.
“It’s dangerous.” You whispered and all that Kakashi could do was shrug his shoulders at you.
“I can handle it.” He said in his quiet, monotone voice.
“You could die!” Your voice grew louder, as if it could somehow explain to Kakashi how stupid joining ANBU was.
He said nothing though and slowly blinked at you.
When you had nothing else to say, Kakashi turned around and walked away.
Tears rapidly filled your eyes before they rolled down your cheeks as you watched Kakashi walk away from you and, possibly, never coming back.
You hadn’t seen nor spoken to Kakashi for the next twelve years after that day. Your entire routine was thrown out of loop as you lost sleep worrying over Kakashi and fearing for his life. You became so depressed that you couldn’t continue working in your father’s mini market and almost dropped out of school had it not been for Gai who visited you one night to inform you about Kakashi’s well-being. You remember breaking down in his arms, relief suffocating you at knowing that Kakashi was alive and well.
You didn’t get to see Kakashi until your second year as an elementary school teacher for the civilian children of Konoha. It happened by accident really. You were tidying up the class and preparing for the day’s lesson plan when you had spotted the taller and stronger looking man through the window.
His face was still hidden behind his mask and his right eye was still hidden from sight. He was followed by three children who all had different hair colors; one girl had long pink hair while the two other boys had blonde and black hairs respectively.
His appearance stunned you into silence and you would’ve left the classroom to follow after the man had it not been for your students walking in and announcing their presence.
The second time you saw Kakashi was another coincidence. School had been let out early and you didn’t feel like going home just eat. Instead, you went to Ichiraku’s Ramen shop for lunch.
“I’ll be sure to drop by again!” You called over your shoulders, a melodic chuckle escaping your lips, when you suddenly bumped into someone.
Large hands strongly gripped onto your shoulders to balance your footing and to prevent you from falling, “I’m sorry! I should’ve wa-”
Brown eye met Y/E/C in a startled yet dumfounded expression.
“-tch where I’m going.” You trailed off.
Seeing Kakashi up close was messing up with your head and your heart was beating so loud you feared that it would stop.
“It’s fine.” His voice was deeper but it still had the quietness in it. Vaguely, you remembered Kakashi’s father having a similar tone of voice.
“Hurry up, Kakashi! You’re paying!” The shouts of a blonde boy sitting on the barstool interrupted your thoughts and the two of you jumped back.
“I should go.” Kakashi stated and rubbed the back his neck.
All you could do was nod your head and watch him walk into the ramen shop. Something deep inside of you told you that won’t be the last time you’d run into the most powerful Shinobi and you could feel a small smile crawl its way across your lips in anticipation.
Things between you and Kakashi were great. Your friendship rekindled and your bond grew stronger than ever. However, Kakashi still kept his distance. And, as an adult and having heard of the risks of the Shinobi lifestyle, you understood and accepted Kakashi’s cautions, especially knowing what kind of childhood he suffered.
And when tragedy struck again with one of his students (you eventually learn as Sasuke) took off with a dangerous rouge Shinobi, you were there for Kakashi.
You were even there when Naruto left Konoha to train with his mentor and Sakura interning for Tsunade, and comforted Kakashi during his loneliness.
And right before the beginning of the Fourth Great War where Kakashi had snuck into your apartment and begged for you to stay safe and wait for him, his brown eye wet with unshed tears, you did as your told and sealed the promise with a kiss to the cheek.
So it made no sense for Kakashi to return to apartment one day after the Great War with his expression resembling the very same one when he had told you he was joining ANBU.
You already knew Kakashi was going to say something you weren’t going to like by that expression alone and you were already shaking your head ‘no’ before he could even say anything else.
“Y/N, listen to me-”
“No!” You shut your eyes tight, not wanting for whatever it was Kakashi was going to say to come true.
You heard him deeply sigh through his nose and soon felt his strong arms wrap around you, “I’m sorry.” He whispered softly into your ears, in hopes to calm you down, “But I’ve been chosen and they need m-”
But you didn’t want to hear what Kakashi was saying so you walked away from his embrace, “I need you!” You spat harshly, tear streaks on your cheeks.
“I was there for you. During everything, not out of obligation but out of love and you left me to join ANBU. That broke my heart, Kakashi, did you know that?”
The silver haired man didn’t. He said nothing as he watched you run your hand through your locks of hair, making it appear messier than its usual kept style.
“I was alone and depressed. I was scared that i would never see you again.” Teary Y/E/C met his briefly before looking away, “And when I finally moved on and things became normal, you’re back in my life as if nothing happened.” You chuckled humorously.
“And I was there for you when your kids left, I was there for you when literally died, even if only for a couple of minutes, and I waited for you during the war. And when it was finally over, when I thought that we’d finally live our lives like everyone else and finally be together, you want to throw all of that to be a Hokage!”
You were panting and your eyebrows furrowed in sorrow. The tears stopped falling but your cheeks were still wet. “I would be fine if you said you’re going to be Hokage and I could be there for you a-as a friend - maybe something even more if you’ve ever felt that way towards me - but you tell me that you can no longer see me.”
It wasn’t meant as a question, though Kakashi answered nonetheless, “To keep you saf-”
“I don’t give a shit!”
Silence met your ears and once you were able to calm down, You had asked Kakashi to leave.
That was a week ago and you haven’t seen Kakashi until earlier today.
When your feet halted their movements, blood staining the soles of your feet and your toes in pain, you finally stopped walking at the end of Naka river.
The sun had completely set and the forest was eerily quiet. You weren’t sure how far away from home you were though, you didn’t care. You just wanted to be as far away from the ceremony as possible.
Sitting down on the grass, you wondered how differently your life could’ve been if you had run into Kakashi outside of the ramen shop. Would you have fallen in love with a civilian that you’d eventually marry? You’d probably have at least two of his kids by now running around your tiny little home. Would you have let them join the Academy if they had asked you to? Probably not.
Maybe you and Kakashi were never meant to be. Your love from your childhood well into your adulthood could’ve been one sided after all. Though, there were moments where you believed Kakashi loved you as much as you did. Maybe not during his childhood but you’ve seen it in his adulthood. The way  he’d look at you when you thought you weren’t looking, those brief touches and him always visiting you after returning from a dangerous mission. You were positive that he loved you when Kakashi had been to your apartment and told you to stay safe before the Great War all those months ago.
Exhaustion settled into you and your eyes soon grew droopy. Resting against a tree, you entertained your mind of thoughts of Kakashi retiring from the Shinobi life and spending the rest of his days with you as you welcomed the cold embrace of sleep.

Very AU Snip of Calling for Rain verse
(I will explain myself at the bottom of this snip, but for now I want everyone to be surprised. ;))
...
     Nyx-kun idly pushed one of his tiny braids behind his ear and it reminded Kushina of an important question, “Say…” he looked up from the notes he’d been scribbling, —he had relaxed enough now in their presence to forget himself and start jotting down notes for another seal, how cute— and made an inquiring noise. Kushina gestured at his braids, “How do you get the ink inside the stone? It’s been driving Minato crazy trying to figure it out, ‘ttebane.”
     “Oh,” mouthed Nyx-kun softly. He raised his voice, “I forgot about that. Uh…” he fidgeted, “I could show you? It might be easier than trying to explain.”
     “Is it safe?” Minato asked, because he was a wuss like that sometimes, and the glance at her belly told her why.
     She glared at her husband and Nyx-kun hurried to answer, “Yes, Yondaime. I perfected that part years ago. It’s perfectly safe to observe.”
     Minato relaxed, “Alright then, and please, call me Minato when I’m out of my office.”
     She could see the protests getting bottled up and the gears turning in the kid’s head before he tipped his chin and reached into a pouch on his hip. He pulled out a storage scroll and unrolled it on the coffee table. A flick of his fingers and tools puffed out, including an entire sack of rattling stone pieces of lots of different colors. Minato leaned closer to watch as Nyx-kun sorted through them, humming under his breath as he seemed to judge them by some unknown criteria and then find them wanting. Kushina tried to lean closer but … yeah no. Not with Naruto so close to being due.
     Eventually, he picked out a stone and rolled it in his fingers thoughtfully. He looked … unsure of himself, suddenly so very young and tired under the weight of whatever he was thinking. Then he shook it off and set the stone aside, sweeping the others into his bag. He had chosen one it seemed, an oblong one that was a beautiful orangey color with dark blue stripes running through it. She had no idea what set it apart from the others, but he seemed satisfied with his choice. He looked up at them with a smile, “I’ve done this enough times I can just do it with my hand, but when I was first figuring this out, I used to take a little piece of paper like this…” he tore a corner off the scroll he’d used to take notes, and inked out the seal.
     The seal he made was tiny and Kushina’s fingers ached in sympathy for the practice it must have taken to make a perfect seal at that small a size. Nyx-kun’s eyes flickered red for a moment, checking his own work before he showed it to Kushina and Minato. Kushina spotted the difference in the seal, but Minato beat her to asking about it, “The outer ring is new. … Melt?”
     “Absorption,” Nyx-kun corrected absently. He then wrapped the bead carefully in the paper, making sure not to smudge the new ink with his finger’s, and held it out to them, “Hold your hands over mine and push some chakra into the seal. Don’t worry about overloading it, I’ll control the flow.” Kushina and Minato shared a look, then held out their hands and obediently sent the seal some of their chakra. She could feel Nyx-kun’s wrapping around theirs, cool and sharp like thunderstorms and lightning, controlling the flow into the seal until it-.
     Lit on fire. A soft puff of flame that Nyx-kun didn’t so much as flinch from even though it was in his bare hand. The paper burned away, but the ink of the seal … stayed. Wrapped around the bead and then sank into it like the bead was liquid rather than stone-. Kushina breathed, “That’s brilliant, dattebane. You used ‘absorption’ to mean ‘absorb into the stone’.”
     Nyx-kun grinned at them as the ink settled into place inside the stone, “Yeah. That way it can’t get scratched off. The only way to disrupt it is to break the bead itself.” He juggled it a bit until it stopped glowing faintly from heat and chakra. He rolled it in his fingers a few times with a strangely sad look on his face, then he held it out to Kushina, “Here. It’s yours.”
     Kushina blinked, “Eh-, are you sure?”
     The young Uchiha nodded, his gaze solemn and … fragile. Like he was afraid she’d get mad, “You both donated chakra for it, it’s keyed to you now. If someone pushes chakra into it,” his hand glowed and it felt like someone was yanking on Kushina’s hair, drying to drag her attention to the bead even though she was already staring at it, “you’ll both feel it.” He hesitantly reached out, pulling Kushina’s hand toward him with the palm up. He dropped the bead into her palm and curled her fingers around it with a smile, “A gift. For- for the child.”
     Kushina hesitated. Because seals weren’t just something you gave away, especially not one that you had personally created. But there was something fervent in his eyes, that familiar faith and Will of Fire Minato inspired in a lot of his ninja, as well as something almost desperate, worried.
     As she accepted the bead with a laugh and a thanks, she wondered if Nyx-kun had lost his mother to childbirth, if her own pregnancy was making him nervous with memory and this was how he assuaged it. She didn’t ask, just grinned and rolled the little bead in her fingers, “I’m sure little Naru will love it, when he’s old enough I’ll braid it into his hair just like yours. Would you like that, Naruto?” She asked the question at her swollen belly, more as a joke than anything, but the midwife had said talking to the baby was good for him, so she made a point to do it semi-regularly —only semi since Minato talked to Naruto incessantly when they were home alone and she was pretty sure the sheer amount of her husband’s words had any health benefits more than covered—. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Nyx-kun suppress a flinch and glance away, heard him take a careful breath she knew by experience was from having to suppress a sharp and grieving memory.
     “Are you alright?” Minato asked him, because he cared about all the village, but he and Kushina knew very well how deeply Uchiha’s emotions effected them, how powerful their reactions could be.
     Nyx-kun took another breath and shook himself, then smiled, “I’m fine. Just- memories.” He cleared his throat a little, suddenly awkward all over again and stood up, “I’m sorry Yondaime, Kushina-san, but I should-. I need to go home now, it’s- it’s late.”
     Kushina and Minato exchanged glances. Having raised a genin team and worked with a lot of younger ninja, they knew the sound of a teenager trying frantically to leave a situation before he made a fool of himself with his emotions. Better to let him go and track him down later for that apprenticeship idea of hers rather than pushing him here, “Of course, I understand,” Minato murmured smoothly, “let me walk you to the door.”
     “Thanks.”
     Kushina waved as they left, “Come again soon, dattebane! I’m sure Naruto would love to meet you in another week or two!” Nyx-kun’s step hitched on nothing, but he smiled over his shoulder and agreed with her invitation like nothing was wrong. She listened to Minato saying his goodbyes to Nyx-kun in the door, and rolled the bead over in her fingers thoughtfully. When Minato came back, they talked for a while, first about Nyx-kun, then about their son who was about to be born.
~~~
     In the quiet of the village at night, no one noticed the Uchiha who fled with feet like wings to a secluded training ground. No one saw as he crumbled in the nook of a high tree branch, knees pulled to his chest and shoulders shaking.
     No one saw tears drip from sharingan eyes over the little orange and blue bead he knew Naruto’s parents wouldn’t live long enough to give to him.
...
(Okay so this is where my muses got weird. I started this to play with what I thought Nyx’s sealing ability/style would be when he grows up, but I’d JUST watched Lost Tower and so my brain went “Hey you know what would be cool? If teenage Nyx met another Seals master and that’s the lens we saw Nyx’s seals through!”
And I went “but we hate Jiraiya and so does Nyx”
And the muses went “TEmpORaRy TImE-TrAVeL AnGsT shOt” and here we are now, so behold the snip of the time travel/exploratory ... THING that I am in no way saying is canon for this verse (I’m also not saying it ISN’T canon because we all know I love my angst).)
Hello, Are You There? || Part 1
Tumblr media
Minako tries the number neighbor thing. Thinking it was an inactive number, she decides to vent and express her frustrations, turning it into a sort of mini diary. What she didn’t expect was somebody was actually on the other line and decided to send a message back.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Word Count: 3.4k+
Pairing: Akihiko Sanada x Minako Arisato
Note: alternate universe where there are no demons, no dark hour and therefore no SEES. also, minato and minako are twins :3 this was something i started writing out of nowhere, so please tell me if there are any spelling errors!
Minako was the type to be able to handle herself. She is always there for her friends, giving them support when needed and cheering them on. However, when it came to herself, she didn’t like opening up. It wasn’t because she didn’t trust her friends, or secretly hated them. No, that is not the case. She is simply afraid because she believes that opening up and telling others about her deepest, darkest fears will make her vulnerable and weak. She didn’t like that one bit.
She believes that she always has to be strong.
Being the older sister(by five minutes), and the one in charge of taking care of Minato because her parents are working abroad, she thinks that she always has to be strong.
Of course, sooner or later she will have to realize that she can’t always be strong.
/./
Classes just ended, and Minako decided to have a cup of coffee at Chagall Café along with Yukari and Fuuka for some quality girl time.
“Have you heard of this trend? It’s an old one but I found it interesting.” Yukari asks, shoving her phone at Fuuka and Minako. The latter shakes her head, while Fuuka studies the image on Yukari’s phone.
“What is it about?” Minako inquires, seemingly uninterested. Yukari didn’t notice it though.
“Basically, get your phone number and change the last digit into the neighboring numbers. And then you send a message.” Yukari answered, taking back her phone.
“Oh, what happens next?” Fuuka asks, not quite understanding the purpose.
“Well, they’ll reply. And maybe you’ll get a new friend.” Yukari states, with a big smile on her face.
“Oh… that’s quite... um...” Fuuka trails off, not knowing how to finish her sentence.
“Lame.” Minako interjected.
Yukari laughed. “Of course you would say that! But why not try it? You may get something out of it... like maybe a relationship?”
Minako scrunches her eyebrows, absolutely weirded out by how the thought of that idea did a big jump. “That seems like a reach. But anyways, I don’t need to be in a relationship! I’m already happy I got you guys!”
Yukari snorted, while Fuuka gave a big smile, “I’m happy I have you guys, too.”
“Okay but I want to try it at least once.”
“Then you do it yourself, Yukari.”
“No! I want to do it with you guys! What do you think, Fuuka?”
“It wouldn’t hurt to try…”
“Seriously Fuuka?”
“Fuuka already agreed! Two against one!”
“Fine… But only once, okay? If they don’t reply, then that’s it.”
“Pfft, sure!”
/./
Of course, Minako didn’t really expect a reply. After all, who in their right minds would reply to a random number texting ‘Hey there number neighbor!’. She is sure as hell she wouldn’t. Thinking that her number neighbor might be an inactive number, she decides not to dwell on it anymore as she prepares dinner for her and Minato.
At the sound of the door opening and some keys being carelessly thrown somewhere reaches her ears, Minako smiles at the thought that her younger brother is home. She puts on a big smile to greet her brother, “Minato, welcome home!”
Minato just grunted in reply. She knows this mood of his. He probably had a bad day, and when Minato is having a bad day, he doesn’t have the energy to talk or interact with other people.
“Can you please set the table? I’m almost done with the food.” Minako pleads, hoping that he isn’t too tired. Minato didn’t reply, however he did start on setting the table.
As Minako served the food on the table, Minato decided to go back to his room and change. When he came back down, they started eating.
“Tough day?” Minako tries starting up a conversation with his brother. Minato nodded.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Minako asks again, and Minato shook his head no.
And they ate in silence.
/./
The next day, it didn’t seem like Minato’s mood changed. As they were going to school, Minato was quiet and didn’t seem to acknowledge her presence. Minako knows that even if her brother is acting cold, he still loves her so. But that doesn’t mean it hurts any less. All she could do was sigh and turn her volume on to the highest level, drowning out the rest of the world.
As they were walking through the school gates, some girls blocked the way, not caring if they were causing a big inconvenience to the other students.
Minako, curious with what was happening decided to lower her volume and listen.
“Akihiko-senpai is most likely coming soon! He usually arrives at this time!” One girl said, smiling huge, jumping up and down.
“O-M-G! I hope he looks our way!” Another girl squealed, and Minako swears that her eyes were shaped like a heart.
“I am like, so proud of him for winning that competish! I’m going to ask for an autograph!” A third girl chimed in, flopping her arms around.
Minako rolled her eyes. It wasn’t of any importance. Some girls just bothering a poor, helpless guy. She sighs once again, maxing out her volume and silently walking to class.
/./
This day isn’t being kind to Minako.
And that was sugarcoating it.
The teachers dumping a bunch of work on the students, just a week before the finals. The volleyball club members fighting with the leader. Obnoxious and disrespectful customers at Minako’s part-time job. Minato still not opening up.
This day was absolute shit.
After dinner, Minako decided to head straight to her bed and lock her door. She flopped herself on her bed and released a big sigh. Her chest feels tight and she feels worn out. She’s read somewhere that crying is a good way to let out your feelings, and it might make you feel a whole lot better if you let it out.
However, nothing was coming out.
She blinked a few times. Nothing.
Suddenly, the feeling of anger is overpowering her. The frustration of not being able to cry is getting to her, and she decided that the best way to go about it is to scream in to her pillow.
That still didn’t help.
She decided to grab her phone. Another thing she read is that opening up might help. She didn’t like the thought one bit, but she knows that she can trust her friends. She scrolled through her screen, Yukari? Fuuka? She decides to go through their group chat, and although they are both online, they seem to be talking about something happily and she didn’t want to dampen the mood.
Maybe Rio? But she’s got her own problem with the volleyball team. Probably best not to stress her out anymore.
Minato? She knows damn well that her brother won’t judge her no matter what, but Minato is probably asleep already.
She sighs yet again, until she comes across her number neighbor.
Hey number neighbor!
Still no reply. Maybe it really is an inactive number.
It’s perfect.
I mean, it’s still sort of opening up to somebody, right?
Plus, she won’t be bothering anybody and she’ll be able to express her frustrations.
Win-win.
She decides to start typing.
Minako: hey there number neighbor
Minako: i know this is really fucking stupid but today was really shitty
Minako: and im telling this to you because i know nobodys there
Minako: but basically what happened was the teachers decided to drop every fucking major requirement the week before exams, and then my part-time job is so demanding, both my boss and the customers
Minako: my boss kept dumping work on me and he did say he would pay me extra but it was still pretty fucking tiring
Minako: and then today the leader of my club expressed her frustrations on said club
Minako: and my brother still wont open up…
Minako: and… i don’t know… i guess it just sorta sinked in to me all of a sudden that im tired..
Minako: and sad… and lonely…
Minako: i
Minako: wow
Minako: that got too real too fast
And a tear fell down her cheek. Minako blinked a few times, and more tears came down.
She was crying. And she couldn’t stop, and she decided to let herself feel this.
She fell asleep crying.
/./
“Shit!” Minako hurriedly put her textbooks in her bag, panicking as she realizes she woke up late. She is usually the one who wakes up first, and then she will be the one who will wake up Minato, who is a heavy-sleeper.
Today, Minato was the one to wake her up, but because Minato isn’t a morning person, they are both late.
When Minako finally finished her packing her things, she put her hair in a bun and washed up herself really quickly.
“I’m really sorry, Minato! You can go on without me!” She shouts from her room, suddenly having trouble putting on her uniform.
“No.” Minato answers back simply. Minato was a man of habit and if he got used to something, he’d want to keep it that way. So going to school without Minako is going to feel weird.
“I’m done!” Minako quickly grabbed her phone and her headphones while going down the stairs quickly. “Let’s go!”
/./
They both managed to snag a seat on the train, and Minako decided to check the time on her phone. It wasn’t time yet, but they are most likely be late since the train hasn’t left yet. She notices two notifications on her phone. One from Yukari, containing the words, “wer r u and minato?” and another from an unknown number.
She decides to open it and her blood ran cold.
It was from her number neighbor.
She remembers clearly how she decided to vent to her number neighbor, thinking it was an inactive number.
It was an inactive number, right? Still in denial and thinking it was her phone glitching, she decided to open it anyway.
???: Hey, I am sorry for ignoring your message. I thought you were a prankster, but I can tell that you have been having a hard time. Prankster or not, I want to make sure if you’re okay and not doing anything bad.
???: If it helps you even just a little bit, you can continue venting to me. :) I do not mind at all. I have heard that venting to a complete stranger is much easier than venting to a friend, since there is no judgment. And that’s completely true.
???: I won’t judge you.
Minako was dumbfounded. Is this guy for real? She thought she was going to get told off by the guy, but he seems really nice.
Minako: omg im so sorry my friend told me to do this number neighbor thing
Minako: and when you didn’t reply i thought it was an inactive number
Minako: last night i was really frustrated and nothing was helping
Minako: so i decided to vent to this number because i figured no one was gonna read it anyways
Minako: i am really sorry if i disturbed u
Minako sighed to herself. The train finally started moving and she decided to play music to get her mind off of it. What she didn’t expect was that she was going to get a reply so soon.
???: It is fine.
???: I told you, I do not mind. You can vent to me anytime if it helps you. :)
Minako didn’t know how to react. This guy is too nice.
Minako: um ok
Minako: thanks ig
Minako: u can do the same if u want
Minako: u can vent to me as well
The guy stopped replying. Probably became busy. Minako sighs in relief, she is embarrassed to say the least. She probably won’t talk to the guy for a while. Or you know, ever. That is probably it, she does not need some random stranger knowing about her problems. She decides to spend the rest of the ride listening to music and looking at the passing scenery.
/./
After school, Minako, Yukari and Fuuka decided to go to Chagall Café once again. Yukari suggested a ‘study group’ to help each other understand unclear terms and also a way to finish their projects. Fuuka and Minako agreed that it was beneficial.
After ordering their drinks and desserts, Fuuka started teaching Yukari the recent Math topic. Yukari couldn’t wrap her head around it and no matter how hard she tried to follow the discussion, she still couldn’t understand. Minako understood the lesson very well, so she was finishing one of their other projects instead.
“Okay, so first you have to write the given…” Fuuka started, while Yukari stared at the problem.
Minako was getting her things ready, when her phone vibrated. She opened it to see a message from her number neighbor. He still replied?
???: Hey, sorry for not replying. Today has been hectic.
???: But thank you! I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. :)
???: How are you feeling today, though?
Is this guy… actually concerned? Minako knows that it is rude that she is questioning and may or may not be judging the guy when she absolutely knows nothing about him. But same goes for the other guy, they do not know anything about her and yet they are concerned?
Minako: im okay today
Minako: thanks for asking
Minako: hbu?
As she finished setting up her things, she got a reply. That was quick.
???: That’s great. I am glad you are feeling better. :)
???: I am good, too. Just a little tired. But I can manage.
Minako stares at the message. Is she supposed to reply to that? Nevermind that, she is supposed to be studying right now. She decides to instead text Minato to eat outside already, as she will be home late. And then she put her phone in her bag and concentrate on her project.
/./
When Minako finally got home, the house was eerily quiet. There were no lights on either. “Minato?” She called out, no answer. She puts down her things and went to knock at his door.
“Minato?”
Still no reply. She tried opening the door, but it was locked. She went back down and checked to see if his shoes were here, and it wasn’t. He wasn’t home yet. Where was he?
Minako tried calling his number, but there was no answer. She started texting his friends, Junpei, Kenji and Kazushi. But none of them knew where he was. She was starting to get a little worried.
No, screw that. She IS worried as hell. Where could he have gone to?
She decided to get her jacket and find him herself but just before she could do that, the front door opened.
It was Minato.
She felt relieved, but at the same time she was very angry.
“And just where have you been?” Minako tried to stay calm, but her tone was harsh. Minato flinched.
“With the boys.” Minato answered, not looking at her and removing his shoes.
“Lies. They told me they didn’t know where you were.”
Minato finished with his shoes and walked past by her, seemingly ignoring her words.
“Minato, I am talking to you.”
“What?” Minato answered indifferently.
“What? What?! What do you mean ‘what’? I was worried sick! You didn’t answer any of my calls, and your friends didn’t know where you were! Not to mention that it’s late, who knows what kind of criminal could be lurking around the streets at this moment!” Minako said exasperatedly. It frustrated and angered her that her brother doesn’t seem to be thinking about what she was feeling.
“Calm down, I got home safely didn’t I? It’s fine. You’re worrying over nothing.” Minato proceeded to go upstairs to his room, not daring to look back at his sister.
“Minato Arisato, come back down here! I am not done talking to you!” Minako shouted, but it fell on deaf ears as he did not come back. Minako felt frustrated and angry and sad… She stormed into her room. Her chest was tightening and she did not like it one bit. She tried screaming into her pillow, but it did not ease her pain.
She faced up and stared at the ceiling. What was going on with her brother? Is there a problem at school? Is he being bullied? Was he having a hard time? They were in different classrooms, but even so it was just next to eachother. Yet somehow it feels like she still cannot reach him.
She unknowingly reached into her phone and started typing. She didn’t want to do this, but it feels like her hands has a mind of their own.
Minako: hey number neighbor
Minako: are u there?
Minako feels weak, vulnerable, and pathetic at this moment, but she doesn’t know what else she can do. After a minute, her phone vibrated.
???: Yes, I am.
???: What’s wrong? Did something happen?
Minako: i just
Minako: im sorry for disturbing u once again
Minako: but nothings calming me down again
Minako: i thought today was a nice day because i just hung out with my friends
Minako: but when i got home, my brother wasn’t there
Minako: i got worried and started calling
Minako: he didn’t answer so i texted his friends and even they didn’t know where he was
Minako: i was just about to go out until he came home
Minako: and i asked him where he was, wanting an explanation
Minako: but he just ignored me
Minako: and it fucking hurts because i was worried sick and he didn’t even try talking to me
Minako: im so fucking frustrated and angry and sad
Minako: its like i didn’t matter
Minako: he used to share a lot with me, i am his bestfriend
Minako: well, was, as it seems like now
When Minako finished, she put her phone down and stared at the ceiling. She started contemplating whether she did something to make her brother act like this. When she heard her phone vibrating, she quickly got it.
???: Hey, don’t jump into conclusions. Although I understand where your frustration is coming from. It is valid.
Minako: if its valid they why didn’t my brother talk to me???
???: Perhaps your brother is going through something, and he isn’t ready to talk about it. He just needs some time to figure it out himself and then he will approach you.
Minako: then what should i do????
???: Just continue loving and supporting him. Let him know you are there. And when the time comes, he will approach you.
Minako: do u think i scared him off when i got angry at him
???: I believe not. You were only being a concerned sister. And I am certain he knows that too. Like I said, what you felt is valid. It is normal, I would probably be the same if I was in your position.
Minako suddenly started crying. She closed her eyes and cried. After a few minutes, she decided to reply back.
Minako: thank u number neighbor
Minako: hey is it ok if i call u by another name or something
Minako: number neighbor is too long and it feels a bit weird
???: Alright. What do you suggest?
Minako: well when i call u by a name then u will most likely call me by a name too
Minako: is it ok if it’s a code name or a nickname
Minako: i don’t feel comfortable saying my name
???: That is fine by me. :) What kind of name will it be then?
Minako: is it ok if i call u by my favorite thing
???: And that would be?
Minako: headphones.
???: Fine by me, pancake.
Minako was surprised. Why the sudden endearment?
Minako: im sorry what?
Ch.8: Without you (1)
Hinata keeps her head pressed to Naruto, and after a while everyone starts to leave. Whispers and hushed voices are all Hinata hears before a hand comes to her shoulder.
    “Lady Hinata,” calls Lord Minato, and she knows what comes.
    “I am s-staying with my h-husband.”
    She doesn’t need to look at his face to know that there is sympathy in his eyes. And she knows she doesn’t want to see it for herself. It will make this all feel… real.
    “We need to clean his body,” he starts again. His voice measured and soft, as if he was trying to make her understand.
    And Hinata does understand. They want to keep her away from what they seem to think of as a burden, but the thought of leaving Naruto now just fills her with dread. She rises, but keeps her hands on Naruto’s body.
    “I will c-clean him u-up.”
    “My lady.”
    “W-will you leave him h-here… or will you b-bring him to our r-room?”
    She finally looks at Lord Minato, and wishes immediately after that she didn’t. Sakura looked bad, but somehow Lord Minato looks worse. His burnt marks are bigger and less healed than Sakura’s, but it’s the way his body sags, the way his eyes seem to be filled with something Hinata has never seen before. Something Hinata didn’t think she would see so soon.
    Resignation.
    She can’t bring herself to ask anything, she can’t bring herself to say anything either. And Lord Minato seems to catch onto that, as he closes his eyes with a sigh and gives her a smile Hinata hates.
    He looks at his son. “We will move him to your room, my lady, I will leave him in your care, thank you very much.” He gives her a bow, steals a glance at Naruto and attempts to leave.
    Hinata grabs the sleeve of his kimono before she realizes she did it. “Wha-what happened?”
    Lord Minato has to control his expression, and Hinata knows that is not a good sign, but she has to know. Needs to know. He looks around the room, to find no one else around aside from Sai and although a little, his mask breaks.
    And Hinata is terrified.
    “I…” his voice trembles and he can’t seem to know where to lay his eyes. “I just shut him down.”
    Hinata can’t understand what he seems to imply, so she presses. “L-lord Gaara…”
    The name seems to strike a chord in Lord Minato, who brings his fist to his closed eyes. “I sealed him. Correctly. I had the time and his seal is comparatively easier to handle… Naruto…” he struggles with his words, drags his fist down, “we lost too much time, we tried going back to where we left you and by the time we were there we caught Naruto losing control down at the arena and the fifth tail was forming so we had to… I had to shut everything down.”
    Hinata lets her hand fall. It’s not only the words he’s saying, it’s the way his voice is tinged with a desperation she has never heard before that makes her unable to talk.
    “He-” Minato keeps on talking, egged on by Hinata’s attitude. If he can only give her some sort of peace of mind… mend somewhat what he has done. “He will wake up,” he assures, “it’s just…”
    Minato closes his mouth immediately, trying to control the tremble that threatens to take over him. He knows… he has known since forever that his son lives on borrowed time, that it’s a fact that he will have to bury him first -going against every natural law-, he has been adamant into searching and trying whatever he stumbles upon that can give Naruto one second more, just one second...
    He has deluded himself, too. 10 years, 12 years, 8 years. Numbers, only numbers he has seen and repeated and tried to turn up and around in search of lengthening them, make them disappear. 10 years, 8 years. Numbers he somehow took for granted. At least that amount of time. At least not next year, or the year after, or the next. Some time.
    This was not supposed to go like this.
    He is crying, so he brings his sleeve to his face, tries his best to hide this. But it’s useless, he knows.
She knows.
    “I have sent message to my master, Naruto’s godfather,” his voice trembles slightly and breaks more than he wishes, but he continues, because he needs some time alone. “He has been travelling around looking and searching for ways to help Naruto. I’m hoping… I’m hoping he will bring something useful this time.”
    Minato worries Hinata will keep her head down. He wants for her to keep her head down and spare him the guilt.
    She doesn’t look at him, but stares at the floor in front of her. No tears.
    “I... understand.”
⁂⁂⁂
Hinata does not move from Naruto’s side. So it’s only through the people who visit that she knows that Lord Gaara has awoken and is fine.
    Lord Minato has taken a look at his seal, Sakura has taken a look at his body. Aside from the obvious stress of his seal being forced open, he’s fine. He’s fine and is currently attending a meeting with Lord Minato and Shikamaru behind closed doors.
    Temari and Kankuro find their way to her room and stand behind her as she sits there, unmoving and with Naruto’s hand clasped between hers.
    She knows how she must look to others. Can guess what is going on through their heads, as they let silence fall all around them. If they were any other people, maybe Hinata would have let them stay there and not say anything, kept to herself.
    But these are Lord Gaara’s siblings. So she closes her eyes, gathers her strength.
    “I am glad… Lord Gaara is all r-right.”
    Her words break a spell she didn’t know was there. The siblings move closer and sit near Naruto’s feet. They remain composed and polite and Temari brings down her head first, followed by Kankuro.
    “We have already given our thanks to Lord Minato and to Sakura. If it could make anything better we would bow our heads to every single member of the clan, but Lord Shikamaru has told us to keep things under wraps as much as possible.” Hinata can’t look at them, so she keeps her eyes glued to the floor in front of Temari’s knees. “The Sand will not forget this debt, Lady Hinata.” Temari’s voice is laced with such appreciation that Hinata can’t ignore the obvious care they share for their brother. Which is why she feels worse for even entertaining the idea of what could have happened if Lord Minato had stayed with them in Naruto's booth.
    It didn’t happen.
    She shouldn’t feel bad for a thought. But she can’t help the shame that fills her and she is only capable of whispering an answer. “I… understand.”
    Her reply is soft and weak and obviously not all that honest, so Temari brings her head even lower, “We will find ourselves useful, Lady Hinata, I swear.”
    Hinata doesn’t know if it’s the way she delivered her speech with such passion or if it’s the fact that Hinata just can’t let go of the envy instilled in her heart, but she feels unworthy of these words. “T-thank you, T-temari.”
    Temari looks apologetic still, and Hinata fears she will talk again. Show her resolve in some other way Hinata can’t truly accept at this moment. But they say their thanks again, softer this time and leave after a couple of minutes of being silent.
    Hinata is left with Naruto. His body is fine, it’s his seal again that’s causing problems. He will wake up, it is not a wish nor a dream, it’s a fact.
    What worries them is that they just don’t know how he will feel or react after he’s woken. Lord Minato worries the seal will weaken and that they will need to tamper with it again, after being reinforced so soon.
He also thinks the only reason the seal was able to endure this whole ordeal is because it had been reinforced just before being put to the test.
Sai sits next to her after what seems like mere minutes, but he offers her food and beverages with an attitude that pleads for her to accept, so it must be way past dinner.
It feels like no time has passed at all. Hinata has to force the food down. It feels like cotton being shoved inside her mouth, unsavory and with a weird texture, but she knows she must eat. She wants to be healthy. She wants for Naruto to wake up and see her and not worry about her.
She eats every little thing on her plate, drinks every drop of liquid on her glass, and then brings her hand to Naruto’s body once again.
Lady Mito arrives in the room with a rush of wind that Hinata ignores. It’s only when she comes closer and sits that Hinata steals a glance at the new guest. She bows to Lady Mito, straightens and follows as she moves to Naruto's other side.
She doesn't really know how to comfort a sad grandmother. But she tries, "Lord Minato s-said he w-will wake up."
Lady Mito sits on the floor, brings her hand to brush away Naruto's bangs with a care that's impossible to ignore.
"He w-will wake u-up."
Lady Mito looks at her with sad eyes, and Hinata realizes that her reassurance could be understood as her own wishes. Her own way of coping.
She realizes she's been repeating those words like a mantra inside her head.
She brings her eyes to Naruto's face. Clean now, but full of burnt marks Sakura has done her best to heal but can't make disappear only with her techniques. The wounds brought by the Beast will have to heal with a mixture of old fashioned nursing and healing chakra.
Lady Mito cups her grandson's cheek and Hinata fears she may want some alone time. "D-do you need to b-be alone with h-him?"
Lady Mito raises her eyes to Hinata and then gives her a tight smile. "No, don't worry, please." She doesn't miss the way Hinata's hand tightens around Naruto's or the way her shoulders relax at her words.
Lady Mito feels horrible. And seeing her grandson's wife so affected does nothing to alleviate her guilt.
There is little she could have done. There is little she can do right now. But it's not the things she can do now that plague her mind, it's what could have been.
"I'm always late when bad things happen," she whispers.
It's an afterthought. Something she never meant to say out loud. But somehow Hinata looks at her without understanding anything and Mito feels compelled to talk. To share her story in hopes of someone finally acknowledging the wrong she has done to her own family.
"When my daughter died I was, much like today, far away in a meeting," Sai stands from his spot near the door and walks out. Hinata doesn't notice. "I came back to a dead daughter and the Beast sealed inside my grandson."
She brings her lips together and realizes they're trembling. There will never be a time when the pain doesn't reach her when talking about the past. "I… we couldn't do much in fear of the seal breaking and hurting Naruto… killing Naruto, so we waited."
And waited, and waited. Year after year of her asking Minato if now they could, and if not now then maybe next year. And then the next. And then...
"Naruto was 11 when the seal settled enough for it to be tampered with." Still a child who craved hugs, still a sweet boy who had trouble with the red chakra that sometimes seeped out of him. "I wanted the Beast to be sealed within me then, got Minato's approval. I told Naruto, thinking that he would agree immediately…" maybe she should have forced it to happen. "He just looked me in the eye and said ‘but it hurts, Grandma Mito, why would you want that?’"
She takes a few seconds to herself. She will not cry. This is not about her. "I just… I tried to explain to him that I could take the pain away, but he has always been quick to pick on things, and his training as Beast Tamer had already started… we thought he had to be ready… for anything. So a few days later he came to me, took my hands between his and asked me if I would die if we went through with it. I told him the truth, the fool. I should have lied. I should have…"
Lady Mito wipes away the stray tears that have fallen and despises them. Abhors them. "’The Beast is mine’, he said, ‘and I will not pass it to anyone ever.’"
Naruto lies there, hurt and unconscious and she sits there beside him doing nothing. Able to do nothing. Like always.
"I begged, kneeled and prostrated myself before him, but he didn't budge. If anything, he became more stubborn… if only I could do something for him…”
Lady Mito’s voice breaks and Hinata can feel the tears falling down her face. What wouldn't she give for Naruto to be freed from this. And now, right now, when she is burdened by his absence and the pain the situation inflicts on her, with the laments of his own grandmother right in front of her, Hinata can feel frustration rising inside.
 "You are his g-grandmother," she whispers. It’s an accusation and a justification both at once, and Hinata inhales sharply the moment she finishes what she said, realizing she’s letting her emotions get the better of her.
It seems at first that her words weren’t heard, thank heavens, and they sit in silence. But then Lady Mito sits straighter, serious, "It's because I am his grandmother,” she whispers. And Hinata has to bite down her lower lip to keep herself from losing her composure.
Hinata remembers Naruto's hand on her face, his breath washing over her as he just told her, matter of fact, 'she's my grandma. I love her.'
So simple, and so unfair.
He will never give the Beast to his grandmother. Hinata squeezes his hand and hopes for him to wake up soon.
She misses him.
Saw your prompt list and thought I'd drop a suggestion: Kakashi with "don't let them see me cry" - especially if it involves young team 7
I merged this with @selspeaks :  Kakashi: Don't let them see you cry. Bonus points if Guy is in there somewhere annoying him
I tried my best to incorporate both of these!
Oh lord. I don’t even know what this story is. This went from angst to angstier, angstiest to dark af, to fluff, fluffier, fluffy mcfluffypants to what-the-fluff-even?
I don’t know. I hope you all like it though!
--
With a sharp intake of air, Kakashi shot up and leaped out of bed. The bedsheet caught on his feet and he tumbled, darted back up, and shot for the bathroom where he swiftly tugged his mask down and heaved alcoholic liquid into the bowl. Shaky hands grasped at the toilet firmly.
For two days, Kakashi had been unable to leave his apartment. In those 48 hours, less than four of them had been spent sleeping. The other 44, was tossing and turning, trying to relax his body and clear his mind, or, spent drinking an ungodly amount of sake, in the hopes of eventually pass out and catch a few hours of uninterrupted sleep.
But nothing seemed to work.
When he felt himself being done extracting the meager contents of his stomach out, he flushed and closed the lid, but paused for a moment to inspect his hands.
His fingers were soft, long, delicate. Clean, unmarred, and milky. Not at all like a shinobi's. It was because Kakashi always wore gloves. He hated the appearance of those hands. They were hands that hurt people. That killed. Hands covered in blood.
Rin's blood.
Whenever he remembered that day, his hands would be covered in blood all over again. First, in short flashes. Coming and going in the blink of an eye.
Then, it didn't disappear. No matter how many times he'd blink at them.
That was when the washing started. Hours upon hours of scrubbing his hands raw. The blood never went away, and the more he scrubbed, the more it would bleed until he realized that it was his own blood that covered his hands and not Rin's.
This had been an occurring problem since that day, and it had only become worse once Minato, his last lifeline, had died.
Somewhere insides Kakashi's musings, there were knocks on his door.
Suddenly, it was like he woke back up. As if he had just now become aware of his surroundings. But, he knew he hadn't slept.
Confused, he stared down at the sink, the sponge he'd used, and his irritated skin. It had happened again.
The knocks on his door became more rapid, and a voice far, far away was yelling his name and Kakashi knew he should answer and knew he needed to stop cleaning his hands.
But he simply couldn't. Not before all his dirty skin had been peeled off. Not until it bled. It wasn't clean enough until there was nothing left at all!
Another voice joined in, yelling his name. The knocks were harder; like hail on your window during a storm. The voices pulled at Kakashi and he wished he could answer them, follow them instead, but he was sure that if he didn't get the blood away, these hands would hurt everything he loved. Everything that was left.
And, logically, he knew that he was the one controlling them. He knew they wouldn't go off on their own and hurt or kill anyone he didn't want them to kill.
But, what if?
What if the constant reminder of what he had done to Rin, how he failed to protect her, or save Obito and how he hadn't been enough to keep his father from committing suicide, would drive him mad?
Kakashi absently realized that the knocking had stopped, and the voices calling out for him had stilled. For some reason, he felt a bit sad about it. Like the intrusive yelling was something comforting and nice, not noisy and disruptive. It reminded him of something or someone.
Its absence left him in silence. A loud, strangling, ear-piercing silence accompanied only by the running tap and the scratching noise emitted between the cloth and his palms.
Why wasn't it going away?
The rubbing intensified. The motion was becoming stronger and more forceful, almost static, and it stung which was good because that meant that he was close to...
Close to what exactly?
Kakashi realized he was panting. Reality came back to him like a droplet falling from the sky. Cold, unavoidable, grey. Blinking, he gazed down at his sore, scratched-up hands. The one holding the rough sponge opened, letting the yellow foam fall into the sink. Reluctantly, he lifted his gaze up and peered into the mirror, where he met a horrid sight.
His face was unmasked in a twisted grimace. The long, angry scar he got the same day Obito died glowed as if it was laughing at him. Red, puffy, glazed eyes and charcoal orbs glistened dangerously.
And the sounds. The sounds had been his students, coming to look for him. They had to be worried about their sensei, now that he hadn't bothered showing up to practice in several days. It must have taken them a long time finding his apartment, and he had ignored them to indulge in whatever-the-fuck he had just done, the selfish jerk he was.
He stared intently at his reflection. The blood-shot eyes that met his glare were pitiful and made him furious. How long had he been standing here?
«Stop crying, you fool,» he sneered lowly, trying to keep the trembling in his chest away from his voice. His eyes squinted shut, chasing away unshed tears.
«I said...» A deep breath. «Stop... fucking crying-»
Someone kicked his door in as Kakashi's fists hit the mirror, shattering it into a million little pieces, dancing around him like flickering snowflakes.
«Kakashi!» an alarmed voice roared from the livingroom. Heavy footsteps moved quickly across the floor.
Kakashi hit the wall where the mirror had been, slicing his knuckles on the sharp left-over pieces and couldn't hold back his winch.
He was pathetic. Pathetic, sad, weak, and a horrible human being. He didn't deserve to live. Why did he get to live when Rin and Obito didn’t?
Two strong hands grabbed a tight hold on his shoulders and pulled him back. Kakashi whirled around, trying to tear away.
«Kakashi?» The voice was deep, Kakashi recognized it but couldn't focus. Feeble, bloodied fingers tried to pry off the larger, tan, callused ones that held him still, and Kakashi was unable to keep himself from thinking that they looked clean and felt an instant need to wash his hands again.
«Kakashi!»
He had made the voice angry. It sounder wrong like that and he knew he had fucked up, just like he always did and it probably wouldn't have happened if he had cleaned his hands---
«S-so much blood,» he mused in a whisper.
His head shot back.
For a moment, he sat there dumbly, unable to take in what had just happened. He rose a strangely painful hand to feel his heated, burning cheek but paused when he noticed the newly ripped flesh scattered across his scarred hands.
Turning them, observing all the healed crisscrossed marks and raw skin curiously, he wondered where the soft, unmarred hands from earlier had gone.
He felt the comforting touch on his shoulder return. Dark eyes looked up to meet two concerned beady eyes under a set of furiously bushy eyebrows.
«Gai? What...» Kakashi muttered perplexed but interrupted himself as he took in his surroundings. The shattered glass on the floor, the mess of soap and water, the bloodied streaks all across the bathroom. «It happened again.»
A sad smile tugged at Gai's lips and he nodded. “Yeah.”
«Oh, God,» Kakashi groaned agonizingly, curling in on himself and shrugging Gai's arm off.
«Shit!» The tears were back, and he struggled to contain them. He refused to let them fall. He couldn't let Gai see him cr---
«...kashi-sensei?»
The surprise of hearing that voice made him straighten his back, instinctively pulling up his mask before looking towards where the sound was coming from, where three heads appeared, lingering warily by the door.
«Were you attacked?» Naruto bellowed loudly as he noticed the state of the bathroom, looking over his shoulder for a possible intruder. His throwing arm itched eagerly by his side pouch.
«I guess you could say that,» Kakashi muttered to no one in particular.
«Don't worry, sensei! I'll get them!»
Naruto bounced off, but Sakura grabbed his jacket and held him back, shaking her head disapprovingly.
«Stop that, stupid.»
For a short while, there was silence once more. It was probably not more than a few seconds, but it ached like days, so Kakashi cleared his throat.
«I-I guess this looks a bit strange,» he drawled slowly and rubbed his neck, smearing the blood through his unruly silvery mane.
«Yes,» Sasuke answered immediately, folding his arms across his chest. The kid always looked suspicious, a bit like he always smelled a fart, which Kakashi bemusedly had thought once during training and proceeded to giggle himself silly as the preteens stared at him incomprehensively.
A bit like now.
They wanted an answer, he knew. Sympathized with it, even. But he had no idea how to give them one.
«I-» he started hesitantly, «I'm not sure how to explain this. And, I'm guessing that none of you would believe me if I came up with some silly story anyway. But I just...»
Again, that tight hold around his heart appeared. The heavy, painful, strangulating feeling of not being able to breathe. The same one he had years after his father passed and an even longer time after Obito and Rin died. It hurt more than a punch in the gut.
«Kakashi-sensei, are you...» Sakura asked just as Gai gently ushered them outside.
Kakashi wiped the streaming tears off his cheek with his sleeve when Gai returned. Kakashi didn't know what he said to them, but when he came back, it was without the kids.
«I am so sorry, Kakashi. I had no idea that this is what was happening. I should have asked them to stay at the training grounds while I went to check on you by myself.»
Kakashi, still seated on the floor with his knees pushed up to his chest, hiding his watering eyes with his hand, chuckled.
«No. You'd have to tie them up to prevent them from doing whatever they want to do anyway. And unless it's for the genin exams, I'm pretty sure you would be breaking some sort of code if you did that.»
«Actually, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to tie a student down during the genin exams either,» Gai muttered perplexed. Kakashi simply stared back.
«Huh.»
Despite himself, Gai hummed a small laugh as he started rummaging through Kakashi's well-stocked medicine cabinet, pulling out disinfectants, gauze, and rolls of bandages.
«Let me see your hands,» Gai required softly, and Kakashi obeyed reluctantly, letting his right hand fall limply into Gai's giant palm.
«Several of these will require stitches,» Gai murmured patiently as he cleaned Kakashi's wounds.
«Maa, I'll do it later,» Kakashi waved him off while Gai rolled his eyes.
«No, you're not doing anything. I will take you to the doctor so it can be done properly. Not that half-assed quick-fix stuff you did in ANBU.»
Kakashi didn't dignify that with an answer. His half-assed quick-fix stuff had saved many lives, his own and Gai's included! Was everyone grateful? Yes! Were the wounds all horribly infected and disfigured after? Well, that wasn’t relevant!
«I really think you should see a doctor, dear rival,» Gai said with the slightest hint of his trademark energetic personality back.
«Jeez, fine. I'll go,» Kakashi sighed, but held his breath when he noticed how sad Gai seemed. Apparently, the energy that he had centered into his voice hadn't quite reached his eyes yet.
«Not for that. Well, that too. But for this,» Gai lifted Kakashi's hand up for a moment, indicating towards the wounds.
«I don't usually self-harm, Gai.»
«I know, that's not what I meant either. That OCD stuff that always happens after a bad mission. And those panic attacks- whatever it is- that you're experiencing. It's no good. You can't live like that. I worry that someday you're gonna...» Gai stopped himself from finishing that sentence.
Kakashi looked away in shame.
«Do like my father,» Kakashi whispered. «I know.»
Gai started bandaging up the right hand and silently asked for the left one once it was done. Kakashi didn't say anything as he offered it, placing it gently into the welcoming palm. They didn't talk while Gai kept working, and Kakashi's mind was running.
He could hardly remember what had happened. Was that how Sakumo had felt before he stabbed himself? Had he too gone into some strange psychosis and let his own self-hatred be in control? Was that what Kakashi was doing? He knew he wasn't in control, at least, he didn't think he was. And Kakashi truly didn't want to die by his own hands, let alone imagine what something like that would do to his students.
They had lost people in their lives too.
«I'll go to the doctor,» Kakashi croaked finally, watching Gai's expressive brows rise and curve excitedly, like an expressive labrador.
«Really?»
«Yes.»
«So I won't have to drag you there against your will?»
«What makes you think you even could-»
«Thank you!»
Gai threw himself at Kakashi, cotton balls with antiseptic flying and the bottle tilting, spilling half the fluid out. Strong arms wrapped around Kakashi's shoulders and pulled him into a tight bearhug, nearly knocking the breath out of him.
«I told you you didn't have to restraint and force me there,» Kakashi hummed in a mix of discomfort and relief before pulling away. Unwillingly, Gai let go and wiped a tear away from the creak of his eye.
Rustling from outside brought their attention away for a moment, before Gai hurried to wrap up Kakashi's other hand so they could check what the fuzz was about.
«Ngh, gah! Naruto! Your elbow is in my face!»
«Your shoulders muffled my ear! I couldn't hear anything!»
«That wasn't because of my shoulder, but from all the cotton you have for brains!»
«Will you two shut up? I'm trying to hear what they're talking abo- Ah!»
Gai dragged the door open, successfully making three noisy kids leaning towards it tumble onto the floor, laying there in a dazed heap for a moment before jolting back up.
«Kakashi-sensei? Are you okay now?» Naruto cried boastfully, jumping over to help Kakashi up from the floor. Kakashi ignored the gesture and pulled himself up, noting that he felt a slight hangover.
Good, he thought. At least I've sobered up.
«Better,» Kakashi replied truthfully, noticing how Sakura was eyeing his hands timidly. «I'm sorry for worrying you. That wasn't my intention.»
He smiled softly at her, and she seemed to perk up at that, so he decided to rest his hand on her head for a moment, just to see what it was like.
Two brightly pink cheeks beamed up at him, and in an instant, she was entangled around his torso, hugging him tight enough to rival Gai. Before Kakashi had even realized what was going on, Naruto had joined in, pressing himself to his other side while chubby, sunkissed hands grabbed at the fabric of Kakashi’s black shirt.
Sasuke stood ambivalent with his arms crossed, observing the ordeal with little to no interest, while Gai bawled his eyes out, leaping a few steps forward, ready to join in.
«Don't you dare,» Kakashi glared dangerously, and Gai turned in his step and switched his focus on Sasuke, deciding that no one should ever be left unhugged, and trapped the boy in a huge, forceful embrace, seemingly untouched by the violent death threats and obscenities spilling out of the boy.
As much as Kakashi was touch-avert and uncomfortable by affection, he recognized this as an important moment. Not only for him but for his students (it might not be for Sasuke; this particular moment, but in the long run, maybe) too.
Kakashi wouldn’t tell them the gritty details. They were unimportant, but mostly, he truly didn’t want to. But he realized one, really important thing.
What had made Minao a great teacher, was his heart. And a heart contained more than just strength. It also held love and hurt. Vulnerability.
Kakashi knew he wouldn’t change overnight. Maybe not ever.
But if this was even one step closer to being the man Minato would want as his son’s mentor, half the man Minato was, then, Kakashi would do whatever it took to become that man.
She had tried to cover the bruises that covered her body, but this one was on her face right on her cheekbone. She had to work, she would call in but she’d rather be at work than at home moping about the most recent incident. She put an exuberant amount of concealer and foundation on, then covered it with blush. What if they notice? What excuse would she use this time? With that thought, she put away her makeup and headed out to work. That was until she noticed her long time boyfriend on the couch.
“ Have a good day at work” She nodded slowly
He got up from his seat and walked over to her.
“ If you wouldn’t talk back to me, I wouldn’t have to hurt you.” He caressed her cheek gently.
He kissed her on the lips and out of fear of upsetting him again she kissed back even though she didn’t want to. She left for work with her heart beating fast.
When she arrived at work Akiyoshi walked up to her
“ You’re late!” She bit her lip
“ I’m sorry,” she said softly
Akiyoshi looked at Chiaki thinking she didn’t have her usual energy. Chiaki shrugged his shoulders, and as she was settling into her desk for the day Shusei came to her desk.
“ Hey, _ _ _! You ready to kick some ass today?” He was waiting for her enthusiastic answer as usual.
“ I guess” Shusei looked at her confused
“ Is something wrong?” He studied her as she looked up slowly at him feeling dejected.
“ I’m just tired.” He narrowed his eyes, skeptical of her behavior.
She ran her fingers through her long hair and he noticed a fading bruise on her wrist. He gently caught her hand as she was bringing it down.
“What’s this from?”
“ I don’t need to tell you, use your imagination.”
Then Minato walked by
“ Are you into kinky stuff in bed _ _ _?”
“ I don’t think that’s it.” Shusei pulled her out of the chair.
“ You are coming with me.” He dragged her into the hallway.
Once they were in the hallway he looked at her firmly and cornered her by the window.
“ What is going on with you?” She looked straight at him
“ I told you I’m fine.”
“ I don’t believe you, something is going on. You need to tell me okay? Because I’m worried.” She glared at him and sighed.
“ I’ll be okay, nothing I can’t handle.”
Minato and Chiaki came out along with Akiyoshi. They all looked at each other.
“ look Shusei I know you’re sweet on _ _ _, but she’s taken leave her alone.” Chiaki pipped in.
Minato dropped his pen and she went to pick it up when the back of her shirt lifted up as she bent over. There was a large bruise on the small of her back.
“ Okay _ _ _ enough of these games! Tell us what’s going on what’s with the big bruise on your back?” Akiyoshi was demanding answers
“ I fell down the stairs.” Minato glared at her
“ Bullshit!” Minato shouted and she flinched and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Chiaki put his hand on her head and smiled warmly.
“ You can tell us _ _ _, we care about you and we are all worried.”
That was it, the tears came running down her face.
“ Here come in the office we don’t want anyone to see.” Kaoro saw what was happening and got some tissues.
He sat her down and wiped her tears but in the process wiped her makeup off revealing the black bruise on her cheek. They all gasped.
“ You can’t hide anymore you have to tell us” Chiaki stated
“ It’s your boyfriend, isn’t it? He’s been hitting you hasn’t he?” Shusei got on his knees and looked at her
More tears came and she put her face in her hands.
“ Yes,” she said quietly
“ Take off your clothes, I need to see what we’re dealing with.” Akiyoshi crossed his arms
“ What!? NO.”
“ It’s okay, not all of your clothes just to your underwear.”
She sniffled and got up.
“ I can't believe I'm doing this"
She turned around and unbuttoned her blouse, as she took it off her shoulders some bruises varied in color from yellow to green to purple to black. She took off her shoes and unzipped her skirt and pushed it down. She turned around teary eyed, and the men in front of her took in the ghastly sight of bruises old to new scattered across her body.
Over her ribs, on her hips, on the side of her thigh, on her collarbone,  along her arms. She was covered.
“Here, you can get dressed”  Shusei handed her her shirt and she took it turning around again.
Once she was dressed she turned back around and fell to the floor a sobbing mess.
Minato caught her in his arms and stroked her hair as she cried into him.
“ Let it out, it’s okay to cry. We will keep you safe” She looked up at Minato
“ No ! I can’t, he’ll come after me and you know when he’s not mad he’s a good man.”
“ And when he is mad?”
“ I know how it sounds okay, but I love him.”
Kaoru shook his head angrily
“ That isn’t love, have you seen your body _ _ _? Love is supposed to be fun and make you feel good. Not what you’ve gone through that is a demented love.
“ I’m going to give you a couple of weeks off of work to heal. You’re going to leave him _ _ _. I can’t stand to see the way he hurt you.” Akiyoshi took her hand and helped her up.
“ What about my things?” Chiaki raised his eyebrow
“ Is he at work? We can go now... all of us”
She sat down in her chair and she closed her eyes.
“ This is too much I don’t know if I can do this”
Shusei  walked to her and kneeled in front of her
“ You have to, what happens when he goes too far one day and you wind up in the hospital or dead? I know you’re scared, but we will be there. There will be nothing to fear.”
She bit her lip and nodded her head, but she was still afraid of leaving him.
“ What if he comes after me?” Kaoru shook his head
“ He won’t get that chance”
“ He’s not at work, he quit his job and refuses to get another job. He’s always there, the only time I can get out is when I go to work.”
“ We will protect you we’ll come in with you.”Kaoru  took her hand “ Trust us”
“ I do trust you, we need to go now before I lose my courage.”
They all nodded and met at her house. When she got out of her car and walked to the front door she paused at turning the knob, but Chiaki took her other hand and squeezed trying to convey that he was there for her.
She turned the knob and walked in holding Chiaki’s hand. Her boyfriend turned around.
“ Why aren’t you at work? Who the hell is this?!” He went up to Chiaki and pushed her and grabbed her arm, pulling her away.
“ These are my coworkers and friends." He turned to look at her with rage in his eyes.
“ what is going on?” He squeezed her arm tighter.
“ _ _ _, come over here,” Akiyoshi said with worry in his voice.
He squeezed even tighter and backed away from them. Then she turned to look at her boyfriend.
“ I’m leaving, I came to pack my stuff.” He pulled her hair forcing her head to go back.
Then he backhanded her face.
“ No you’re not, you know the consequences don’t you?”
“ Let go of her!” Minato yelled, and marched forward
Shusei and Chiaki came on either side of Minato with everyone else behind them.
“ Get it through your head, she’s leaving you. You douchebag of a human.”
“ You don’t talk to me that way in my own house.”
“ Tsk..” Minato shook his head
As Minato was distracting him _ _ _ kicked him straight in the balls and hard. He finally let go of her hair. She was free and she moved into the hallway
“ Go! Pack your stuff, we’ve got this.” She ran up the stairs and Minato followed her
She got a box and a large suitcase out.
“ looks like you were prepared to do this.”
“ I always wanted to but I’ve always been too scared. Just throw my shirts in the box we aren’t folding anything”
He complied and they both started throwing clothes in the box and she placed her jewelry box and perfume in the suitcase. She threw her makeup bag in there and continued to frantically pack until it was full.
“ We can come back for the rest of it right now you just need the essentials”
when they came down Akiyoshi had her boyfriend's arms held behind his back as they hurried to the car to put away her things.
“ I’ll find you! I’ll hunt you down and drag you back!”
Shusei punched him causing him to fall to the ground.
“ No, you won’t because there’s more of us, and she coming with us and you can’t stop her!”
They all walked out the door, and Minato helped her put her things in her car. He closed the trunk and looked at her.
“ It’s time for you to take your life back and we’re all here to help you make that happen.” He smiled warmly and _ _ _ hugged him.
“ I look forward to the future. Thank you, all of you.”
She got in the car and drove off into the distance leaving the scared girl behind her and becoming the brave woman she was meant to be.
“Mr. Namikaze is everything alright?” Sakura didn’t know what trouble little Naruto could get into in the eight hours since he had seen him in the office.
“Sorry to bother you Dr. Haruno, but it’s Naruto. He has this rash on his chest that just popped out of nowhere. I don’t know what to do.” Minato sounded panicked on the phone.
“Can you describe the rash for me?” Sakura could hear him fumbling about with the phone.
“It’s red and gooey looking. There are other redder areas around it.” At least he was doing better than most at describing the rash. She was perplexed how such a rash could just pop up.
“Is it tender when you touch it?” Minato told her to wait a second.
“Oh...Oh… It smells like pizza sauce. Oh.” Smelling like pizza sauce that was something Sakura had never heard of before.
“Dr. Haruno I’m sorry to waste your time. I forgot one of my old mentors was watching Naruto this afternoon so I could go into work for a few hours. He must have gotten pizza sauce on Naruto when he was eating. My mentor even sent a picture of Naruto on his lap as he ate the pizza.” Minato felt like a complete and total idiot. He just freaked out when he saw red that he didn’t pay close enough attention.
“It’s ok Mr. Namikaze. I’m glad it is just pizza sauce. I do recommend a good sponge bath for little Naruto. Did you have any other questions?” Sakura had to stifle her laughter as she talked to him. First time parents. She then paused. He was a first time single father, he must be a nervous wreck going at this all alone.
“No. No other questions.” Minato sounded like a defeated puppy.
“Mr. Namikaze please don’t feel bad about calling. I would rather you can when you have a concern. You don’t know what something is or what is going on unless you ask. They didn’t give you a pamphlet on how to raise a child. So please don’t ever hesitate to call. Have a good night.” Sakura hung up the phone and took a deep breath. She felt fabric being draped over her shoulders.
“I thought you would need a jacket. It gets chilly once the sun sets.” Sakura found Kakashi’s coat on her. Her heart was warmed by the kind gesture.
“That is very considerate of you. Thank you.” Kakashi walked Sakura to her car. As she unlocked her doors she gave Kakashi’s jacket back to him. She couldn’t help herself when she placed a kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you for dinner.” Before she could get in the car his hand stopped her.
“I had a nice evening. Could I get your number?” Sakura blushed. She gave Kakashi her number, applauding herself for not stuttering too much.
“Have a good night Kakashi.”
“You too Sakura.” Sakura sat in her car thinking back to her crazy day. She enjoyed her time with Kakashi, but wasn’t sure if she saw anything romantically happening with him. There was something that just wasn’t right. However, she would give it another try if he called her.
After Dr. Haruno hung up the phone Minato couldn’t help but to bang his head against his kitchen table. He was so worried when he saw the “rash” on Naruto he freaked out. He has never felt like more of an idiot in his life.
Jiraya was kind enough to watch Naruto this afternoon. Minato was so nervous leaving, but he had to go into his office for a few hours. He had worked hard over the years building his architect firm and they were getting a proposal ready for a big bank. He knew he could trust Obito and Kakashi with the deal, but he wanted to make sure everything was immaculate.
The trio had worked so hard they didn’t realize it was 7pm. Kakashi had to make a quick exit, saying something about a blind date. That left him and Obito together. Obito decided to order food stating that he “needed a break.” Minato couldn’t protest because before he knew it Obito had already placed an order for burgers and fries.
“The order will be here in 20 minutes. I know you want to get back to Naruto, but he is in good hands with Jiraiya. Sit down and rest for a little bit.” While Obito tended to be the more easy going jokester between them. He also cared deeply for his friends and family.
“You’re right. Now tell me how are you going to propose to Rin?” Minato laughed as Obito stammered. He may have been preoccupied in the last few months, but he knew Obito was going to propose soon.
“Who told you? The only other one who knows is ...Kakashi told you!” Obito had jumped up and pointed a finger at Minato. For a man in his early 30s Obito was still a kid at heart.
“Kakashi visited just before Naruto was discharged. He wanted to get my mind off of things and told me. Don’t get too mad at him.” While Kakashi shouldn’t have told Minato it did bring his mind out of a dark place. He had something to look forward to. Obito was taking a big step in his life and he needed to be by his side.
“By the way Rin said she would be open to babysit anytime you need her.”
Minato might just take RIn up on her offer, at some point. He shook his head, not now of course. Minato went over the sink to make a bath for Naruto. He didn’t feel like messing with the tube and the baby seat. When he went to the bathroom to get the baby body wash, towel, and washcloth, he stopped. He stared at the small rubber duck holding a bowl of ramen. Minato carefully picked it up and took it with him.
He checked the water with his hand before placing Naruto in. As the warm water hit his skin Naruto started to giggle. The smile he gave could melt the hardest of men. It reminded him of Kushina. He would not let the tears fall.
Minato wrapped Naruto in his towel. He made sure every little bit of pizza sauce was off of him. He placed Naruto in the bassinet next to his bed. He fell fast asleep. Minato crawled into bed and watched the rise and fall of Naruto’s chest. He slowly drifted to sleep.
It had been a week since Sakura heard from Minato last. She was surprised she didn’t get any more calls, but hoped he was settling in.
Sakura had a jammed packed schedule for the day. They had double booked her in 4 different times spots meaning she would not have lunch. She really liked lunch...well food in general. She was hoping for some no shows. While she adored all her patients she might lose her sanity at the end of the day.
She looked at her schedule and at least she started with one of her favorites.
“Shikadai! How is my favorite 2 year old doing?” When she saw that bright smile spread across  his face her day instantly brightened. For the next 3 hours Sakura flashed in and out of her exam rooms. The nurses would just see a flash of pink and then children’s laughter. She did get behind due to the scheduling errors, but the parents and children were understanding. For the most part at least. Her patient at 1145, was not so understanding, even though they were a walk in.
“Hello you must be Miss Ami. I’m Dr. Haruno, sorry for your wait.” The little girl had short purple hair and brown eyes. Before Ami could speak her mother cut in.
“We have been waiting for 30 minutes. My child has horrible abdominal pain and you place us in this room to wait.” Sakura had to take a deep breath. She did a quick glance of Ami who was sitting comfortably by her mother playing a game on the phone. No increased work of breathing, no pallor, no distress. At least the first glance Ami looked ok.
“I’m sorry about Mrs.Yoshi. Can you tell me when the pain started?”
“It has been going on for 3 weeks.” Sakura could not let her eye twitch externally. Three weeks!
“And what changed with the pain today to bring her in?” Sakura kept her smile on her face.
“It’s gotten worse and she had an accident at school.” Ami looked away from Sakura and tried to hide behind her mother.
“Oh you poor thing. That must have been so hard for you. Was it a stool or urine accident?”
“It was poop.”
“How often does she have a bowel movement?”
“Once every couple of days. She sometimes cries.”
“Let me take a look over. Miss Ami can you get up on the table for me?” Ami dropped the phone and hopped up on the table with ease. No concerns for appendicitis at the moment.
Sakura quickly looked over Ami. Making sure to feel on her stomach and ask where the pain was. Thankfully she did not have any localization to the right lower quadrant, but she did feel full.
“Alright Mrs. Yoshi I want to get an Xray of Ami’s abdomen. At her age constipation is a common cause of abdominal pain. With the worsening of her pain I know it can be scary, but the location is not consistent with appendicitis. She also has not had any fevers and no nausea or vomiting, which is all reassuring. So Miss Ami let's get a picture of that tummy. Have you ever had an Xray done before?” Mrs. Yoshi seemed to have relaxed some. As she settled Ami and her mother into the waiting area she made her way back to her desk. She would have a few minutes to catch up on some notes and type up a summary for Ami.
Fifteen minutes later she was bidding farewell to the duo. Mrs. Yoshi did apologize on the way out.
“I know it’s scary when your child is in pain. This should get her to feeling better and I want to see her back in 1 month.” As she watched the mother and daughter leave her stomach roared like a lion. It was 1240 and she would not have time to get lunch. She prayed she had a granola bar in her bag.
When Sakura got to her office she froze.
“I thought I would surprise you with lunch. Hope you don’t mind. Ino told me where you worked.”
Kakashi sat in her office with the most delicious smelling food. Warmth filled her.
“That’s very kind of you and couldn’t have been on a better day. I wasn’t going to have time to get something to eat.” Sakura eagerly sat down. She didn’t even think as she took the box of stir fry from Kakashi and stuffed her face. She was so engrossed in her food she didn’t realize the mess she was making. Kakashi’s laugh brought her out of her food zone.
“I’m glad you like the food.” Kakashi tried hard not to cringe. He was enjoying getting to know Sakura over the last week, but he just wasn’t sure.
“Sorry. I was just so hungry. How is your day going so far?” Sakura tried to salvage her dignity as she cleaned her face off.
“Good. My boss will be coming back to work next week, so everyone is frantic, but it will be nice to have him back. Do you have any plans for the weekend?” Sakura had to think. Today was Wednesday or was it Thursday? It really didn’t matter, she didn’t have anything planned.
“No. I don’t have any plans.”
“Would you be interested in going with me to an art gallery Saturday night?” Sakura wasn’t sure, but she promised Ino she would try.
“Sure. Sounds like it could be fun.” Well at least it would get her out of her house.
____________________________
Minato was settling into a rhythm with Naruto. He would wake up about two times during the night. No more coughing at night was music to Minato’s ears.  Minato started taking Naruto to daycare for a couple hours out of the day. During those couple of hours he would work from home making sure everything was ready when he went back full time on Monday.
It was currently 3pm on Friday and he was looking forward to his weekend with Naruto. He just had to finish up some paperwork. The ring of his phone caused him to jump slightly.
“Kakashi is everything ok?” Kakashi was placed in charge of the office when Minato was away, so Minato was hoping that nothing was going wrong. Kakashi was an efficient and intelligent man, but he tended to do more reading than working at work.
“I couldn’t remember the name of that restaurant that you were talking about a few weeks back and needed a refresher.” Minato had to think back. He then remembers one of the restaurants he would frequent when Naruto was in the hospital.
“Ichiraku Ramen? Why do you want to know?”
“ I have a date tomorrow night and want to take her somewhere after the art gallery.”
“You cannot take her to Ichiraku Ramen! Take her to the Crimson Dragon, it’s nicer.” He then heard Kakashi mumble on the other end of the phone. Minato hoped that their date went well, Kakashi was too much of a recluse. He also hoped Kakashi showed up on time.
“Alright I gotta go pick up Naruto. I’ll see you at work Monday. Oh and don’t be late.”
Minato quickly made his way to pick up Naruto. He was looking forward to a lazy weekend.
Sakura stared at her closet. She had no clue what to wear. What does one wear to an art gallery? She stared at her phone. Regret overcame her as she pressed the call button.
“What’s up Forehead?” Sakura sighed.
“What does one wear to an art gallery and then out to dinner?” Sakura had to pull the phone away from her ear as Ino screamed.
“Please tell me it’s Kakashi! He’s cute, right?” Ino went on a five minute rant rating all the guys she has seen recently.
“Ino. Can we get back to me?” Sakura was getting a headache.
“ You have to wear your black wrap dress with the gold heels. Pin your hair up. And for the love of god don’t look like a mess.” Sakura took great offense to that. She never looked like a mess, although working with kids tended to get her sticky with lots of different material.
“Thanks Pig.”
“I expect details tomorrow over coffee.” Sakura didn’t waste any time hanging up the phone. She made quick work of getting dressed and she was ready just on time.
Well she thought she was ready on time. 7pm rolled by and Kakashi didn’t show up. She looked at her phone making sure she had the right time. Yep. He was going to pick her up at 7pm and it was now 745. So she waited. Sakura checked her phone multiple times. No new calls or messages.
Then she heard the knock on her door. She wanted to yell at Kakashi for being late, but reeled it in. Instead she put a smile on her face and opened the door.
“Yo. Sorry I’m late. Ready to go?” That’s all she got. No explanation. Sakura’s smile went tense and she nodded yes.
The art was interesting to say the least. It definitely wasn’t her style and the artist was a little too obsessed with depicting puppets in his work. As they walked to the restaurant her phone rang. She knew she wasn’t going to go a night of being on call without someone calling her. Mei was going to owe her for taking her call tonight. She quickly excused herself before they headed in.
“This is Dr. Haruno.”
“Hi Dr. Haruno, it's Minato...Naruto’s father.”
“Hello Mr. Namikaze, what is going on with Naruto this evening?”
“He has a fever and won’t keep his formula down.” Sakura delved into the typical questions. How long has it been going on? How high has the temperature gotten? How many wet diapers? It started this morning apparently. Naruto’s temperature has gotten up to 100.6. He was eating well during the day, but for the last 2 bottles he has been throwing up. Eight wet diapers so far today. No diarrhea.
“Has he been around anyone sick?”
“Umm I started taking him to daycare a few hours each day. I don’t know of anyone sick there.” Sakura winced, daycares were a cesspool of germs.
“He probably picked something up there. Give him some tylenol for his fever and see how he does after that. If he continues to throw up you can try some pedialyte. He likely caught a viral infection. If you notice any increased work of breathing, less than 2 wet diapers, I would take him to the ED or to the clinic if it is on the weekday.”
“Thank you Dr. Haruno.”
“No problem Mr. Namikaze. Please let me know if there is anything else.” As Sakura hung up the phone she found herself smiling. She had a feeling both would have a lot of growing over the next couple of years.
Sakura soon entered the restaurant and joined Kakashi for their dinner.
___________________________
It had been 3 weeks since Sakura last heard from Minato. When she got back to the office the Monday following his call she made sure the nurse called to check on them. Once Naruto got some tylenol he started taking his bottles again. His fever only lasted a day and he was back to normal.
Sakura looked at her schedule and smiled when she saw a certain 4 month old’s name. He would be coming in later in the day. She was looking forward to seeing that mop of blonde hair. Her day passed relatively smoothly. Her last appointment for the day canceled, which meant after seeing Naruto her day would be done. Now she just had to wait. She didn’t have to wait long as she saw them check in and then get roomed.
_________________
The last few weeks have gone better for the Adventures of Naruto and Minato. Yes Minato came up with his very own title for Naruto’s life. After the fever most things were smooth sailing. Naruto was doing well adjusting to being in daycare and to Minato’s credit he adjusted decently too. He only tried to run out of the office a couple of times to check on him. Obito and Kakashi would snicker when he tried. Rin always seemed to show up and halted his attempt to escape.
His firm was almost done with the bid for the bank tower. The proposal started to come together nicely. As he sat in the waiting room this time it was less nerve wrecking then the first time. There was a different nurse this time who called for them. Naruto was happy babbling in Minato’s lap. They were rushed back for the vital component and placed into an exam room.
A knock on the door made Naruto jump.
“Well if it isn’t little Naruto. Look how big you have gotten. Mr. Namikaze it's good to see you again.” Naruto easily smiled at Dr. Haruno as she talked. Minato could see Naruto’s head move as she sat down. Dr. Haruno seemed to be solely focused on Naruto, which was refreshing. Most women just stared at him and ignored Naruto.
“Alright any questions or concerns for today?” And with that the questions started. After the barrage of questions he watched as Dr Haruno easily picked up Naruto and started to look him over. For some reason the lack of attention he was getting was bothering him.
“How is daycare going?” Minato realized he had zoned out.
“Uh...daycare is going well. Aside from the fever a few weeks ago, he has not had any colds. Will he get another cold?” Minato wasn’t sure if he could handle Naruto being sick.
“It is likely he will get another cold and more then just one. How has his sleeping been? I know last time he had problems with a cough at night.”
“He wakes about twice at night for a bottle and then he is back to sleep. As for the cough that seems to have gone away.” Naruto started to reach for her stethoscope as she picked him up. He watched as Naruto tried to kick his legs on the table.
“That’s good. Aright Naruto you look good. It is time for his four month shots. He can be a little fussy afterwards, so you can give him some tylenol if needed. I’ll have the nurse come in to give the shots. Mr. Naruto I will be seeing you again at 6 months of age. Try not to scare your father with pizza sauce this time.” Minato’s checks flushed as she mentioned the pizza incident.
“We will be seeing you in 2 months Doc.” Minato watched as she left. Naruto looked at his father and giggled.
