I have a good idea for a story, for the first time in what feels like eons. I spent the whole morning like this

gathering all the ideas and plot points, fleshing out the characters, etc... The whole thing is essentially coming to me in whole chunks, just "writing" itself without much effort, the muse is certainly in the room.

Please send me the energy, inspiration and mental fortitude to actually put it into writing. Maybe it could actually be a thing lol.

When I came across that "joke" from Tav to Quill and Z'rell's comment (plus Halsin), I had to take a minute to process what happened. Gale might be a bit silly and eccentric but he's the kindest, sweetest and most passionate character in that party. No wonder the poor man has deep insecurities to solve, so many people reduce him to an easy target! Ofc one of the side effects would be overconfidence and ambition as a defense mechanism. He's obv lonely; only Tara and Morena ever loved him for him.

his eccentric nature might be a part of it. he is loquacious, outgoing, and doesn’t see the point in hiding his enthusiasm. he is considered to be the weird one. naturally, wizards in general being seen as somewhat squishy and physically weak might also add to it.

personally, i really don’t like the implications of the (widely considered) autistic-coded character being the one who faces the most ridicule by far by other characters and fans (and larian) alike.

some might disagree with me on that, but i don’t find it funny by any means either. mostly it just makes me feel bad. “he deserves it. cocky, arrogant, hubris-ridden wizard needs to be taken down a peg” like he isn’t… y’know… already at his lowest. it also disregards the fact that much of his bravado is part of his carefully curated Great Wizard of Waterdeep™ persona that he has skillfully adopted to mask his general feeling of being defective. being fiercely proud of your skill and knowledge and being doubtful of having something truly worthwhile to offer are mindsets that can coexist. according to fandom, gale is either secret hubris incarnate that is only waiting to be unleashed upon the world or pure baby that can do no wrong. instead of a character that is just as flawed and traumatized as all the others, but no less deserving of genuine love.

to me, the constant ridicule just reads as further feeding into his deep-rooted insecurities and his belief that he (as gale, the person) isn’t someone who holds inherent worth. it really, really doesn’t sit well with me.

"...and that's exactly why The Zodiac, in theory, was more prolific as a mathematician than a serial killer." he finished his sentence as he drew a couple more words and connected lines on his whiteboard. His body turned in your direction, and it made you jump slightly on your spot on the couch.

"You're so right, babe, that makes a lot of sense." you said. Truth was, you had no idea what he was talking about. You were having dinner together, and you mentioned Zac Efron on the Bundy movie, things escalated, and he took out his whiteboard, and that's what you remembered happening last.

You loved your boyfriend, and you absolutely adored hearing him ramble about whatever topic he was feeling passionate about. It was one of his most endearing features, and you vowed to yourself you would always be there to listen.

Tinsy problem, sometimes your brain was physically uncapable to keep up with his talking speed, and the second you didn't understand something and you couldn't just interrupt him to clarify it to you, your brain would fly somewhere else. It wasn't because of boredom, his speeches were never dull to you, you were just wired that way, and there was little you could do about it but conceal it from him and try to pretend that you got everything he was sharing with you. At the end, that was your true intention every time.

His arms dropped defeatedly to leave the marker by his coffee table, immediately they traveled back to his chest, crossing them over it. "Okay. What was it this time?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" you frowned in confusion. He noticed your obliviousness and decided to walk in your direction, crouching down in front of the couch.

"You zoned out. I'm curious about what you were thinking about instead of The Zodiac." he smiled.

"You noticed?!" you almost yelled out your question.

The chuckle that he let out, amused and surprised, easied the slight anxiety that you had began to feel. "You do that all the time, I'm pretty familiar with your present-body-absent-mind expression." he clarified.

Your hands flew to your face, covering it with your palms in embarrassment. "I can't believe you have known all along." you mumbled against your own skin "I'm so sorry." you said with a slightly saddened voice.

"Hey," he reached out to grab your hands and guide them away from your face, taking them in his instead "why are you sorry?"

"I really love hearing you talk about things so passionately, I promise." you tried to reassure him. He let out a smaller laugh this time.

"From all the people I've met in my life, you're the only one that's never asked me to stop." his eyes moved to yours. His sight was longing and gentle, his thumbs rubbing at your hands with adoration. Your heart beat erraticly for a second, regardless of the amount of time you had been together, he still made you nervous, he wooed you with his beauty and kindness. "Regardless of how long my ramble is, or the topic. Not even that one time I was telling you about flatulence characteristics and types." he admitted shyly.

You took back your hands and bent forward instead. Your fingers landed on his cheeks and you pulled him closer so you could place a gentle, loving kiss on his lips.

"And we weren't even dating then." you joked "Still, you should have said something."

"It doesn't bother me" he stated "If anything, I'm always amazed with the random, completely unrelated thoughts that pop into your mind during your zoning out. So, tell me, what was it this time?"

Your lips pursed slightly, eyes looking away shyly "I was wondering how faucets work." you admitted and he yet again let out a gentle chuckle.

"I actually know the answer to that one." his eyes narrowed and he turned back to stare at his messy whiteboard, his entire body still crouched before you. "Perhaps if I break it down on modules, and we have a dynamic activity in between, I can keep your attention engaged." he said once he had turned back at you.

"Or we could make out. That keeps me engaged." you mentioned, your hands tangling on his hair.

"Yeah, nevermind, let's do that."

I have this headcanon that Pantalone can be quite a drama queen when he wants to. Like he's all professional, polite and reserved when he's working, but the moment he's alone Pantalone just flops on a couch or something like that in his office, loudly groans and throws a pillow, maybe even over his face.

Oh, and when his beloved is in the same room as him when he's in a drama queen mood, then he just proceeds to just collapse on them and complain to them instead. Oh, and of course demanding affection, but in a cute way. As cute as Pantalone can be.

NO FR!!! I COMPLETELY AGREE 😭 He's a drama queen, but only with you and himself. He presents himself as a very composed, nothing bothers him man but oh, do some people get on his absolute nerves. How he has to force that smile to be on his face even harder with certain people... rumor says if you hear a groan from Pantalone's office don't disturb him otherwise he'll be a lot snappier than usual... And even though being a Harbinger means bottling all your emotions up and not showing anyone, even he can't help but act all whiny and pouty sometimes... especially with you. It's like, so funny to see him be so dramatic with you, but also really sweet because he's letting down his walls around you. He definitely collapses on you, puts his hand over his forehead and all, and he will tell you everything, from the most minor and small annoyances to the biggest headaches. You get to know some of his co-workers very well despite not ever meeting them, thanks to his ranting... Please stroke his hair and nod in agreement with everything he says, and also be prepared to stay in that position for a while. He's very clingy when he's being a drama queen, and he also really wants your attention and to just be listened to thoroughly. Finally, he can have some positive affection after a day of stress. I think he would also totally indulge you if you were a drama queen yourself lol, he would love to listen to you and also find amusement in your actions.
