Watched Saltburn, found it delightfully and unexpectedly hilarious and fun all the way through, and disagree entirely with anyone who thinks the ending monologue from Oliver was unnecessary or too blunt or whatever. The ending monologue from Oliver was absolutely, 100% necessary to complete the story told in Saltburn.

The point wasn't Oliver finally revealing to the audience how he'd planned out everything and all the events of the movie had just been carefully constructed stepping stones on the pathway to his true motivations the whole time.

The point was Oliver reframing everything that had happened as a story to himself, so that he could convince himself that all of it was a part of his true grand plan all along. That he didn't make mistakes or fumble his obsession/crush so hard that he wound up murdering the guy and his whole family and stealing their house about it. No! Of course it wasn't that! That would make Oliver look silly!

And Oliver may have been willing to put on an act of being someone pathetic and useless, but only when he could tell himself that it was only an act. That in reality, he was the one with the power, the knowledge, the control over everything.

Oliver didn't care if anyone else knew that he was the cool and clever winner of some convoluted scheme he'd masterminded from Day 1. Once Felix was gone, all that mattered to Oliver was that he convinced himself that killing Felix was the only choice he'd ever meant to make.

Felix sighed listlessly, everything hurt, he could barely remember anything about what happened last night. Farleigh left after making sure he was well enough, he got up with difficulty and walked to his room, he needed to sleep for the rest of her life.

He went in and locked the door, he took off his angel wings with difficulty and then collapsed on his bed, he didn't want to face his parents today, or ever, although they probably won't mention it ever again.

"Felix? Are you okay?" The door that led to the bathroom opened and there was him, the reason why he had decided to drink himself to death. Yesterday's discomfort was no longer in his system, he was too tired to be upset, instead there was only pain. He didn't need this, not now.

"Oliver walked to his bed and sat in a corner away from him. "I was afraid that if I didn't give you an interesting story...you...you...you wouldn't stay."

Felix rubbed his face and sat on the bed. "Ollie, you lied to me about your life, I thought you trusted me and that's why you told me those things, I thought we were close." He felt hurt, he felt like his best friend was a stranger, his entire friendship felt like a lie.

"And I do! I trust you, I told you things I never told anyone." He whimper. "You're the only friend I've ever had Felix...I couldn't risk losing you, I couldn't...A-and everyone puts a show for you, why should I be different? Since I had less chances..."

Felix shifted in his seat, uncomfortable in his own skin. "What makes you think I would reject you if you didn't lie to me?"

Oliver hugged himself. "I know you, you would have been bored of me, I'm not very interesting Felix, if I didn't give you a story where you are the poor boy's great savior then you wouldn't have noticed me."

"Ollie- shit, do you really think that about me? I'm not cruel Oliver. I liked you before you lied." And he did, Oliver was interesting, someone easy to talk to, who didn't take him for an idiot, he could spend hours and hours talking to him and never get bored. Oliver was the first person in his life who seemed interested in really getting to know him.

Oliver shook his head as he choked back a sob, "You would have thrown me away, Venetia said so, you would have thrown me away like Eddie. I would only be your friend for the summer and then you were going to replace me."

"That's not it- Ollie I've only brought two people to Saltburn in my life, Eddie and you." Oliver turned to look at him for the first time in the entire conversation. He seemed shocked. "Look, when Venetia is upset with me she usually says bad things about me, okay? And Eddie...it's a...personal issue." Felix shrank in place. "Look, I admit it, I felt a little uneasy morbid taste for the sad stories you told me, but I... I really like you- I liked you and I wanted to help you, you know?" He sighed rubbing his forehead, "And now...now I don't know if anything you said is true, I believed everything you told me, I told those lies to my parents Ollie, I thought you needed help." Felix had never opened up like that with anyone. "I...I thought you were honest, I thought you weren't like the rest, that you didn't lie to me to get something out of me. I...don't want to trust you anymore..."Felix looked at Oliver. Who looked like he was about to cry. "You hurt me..."

Oliver cowered in his place. "I..." And then he started to cry, Felix's heart squeezed in his chest, he crawled over to where Oliver was and placed a hesitant hand on his shoulder. Had Oliver always been this tiny? Part of his hand almost completely covered his ollie's shoulder. "Most of the things were true..." He whimper. "Is there something... Is there anything I can do to make you believe me? I'll do anything Felix, I swear...anything..."

Felix looked at him empathetically. And he hugged him, unsure of what exactly he should do, he wasn't sure, but he definitely didn't want Oliver out of his life.
