(via GOP New Jersey Official Called Cops on 9-Year-Old Black Girl Catching Spotted Lanternflies)
A former city council member of a New Jersey town and local Republican Party leader allegedly called the police on a 9-year-old Black girl when he saw her catching spotted lanternflies—an invasive species killing trees in the area—while wearing a hoodie, the girl’s mother, Monique Joseph, said at a local board meeting last week.
“There’s a little Black woman walking, spraying stuff on the sidewalks and trees. I don’t know what the hell she’s doing, it scares me though.”
An October issue of The Progress quite literally spotlights Bobbi’s work to combat the environmentally hazardous invasive species in the community. “She was not only doing something amazing for our environment, she was doing something that made her feel like a hero,” Hayden said. “Our neighbor across the street…decided it would be appropriate to call the police on my sister.”

Here are some cool Easter eggs that I found the newest My Adventures with Superman episode, “Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say”. Links to the easter eggs post:
Episode 1 is here
Episode 2 is here
Episode 3 is here
Episode 5 is here
Episode 6 is here
Episode 7 is here and here
Episode 8 is here
Episode 9 is here
Episode 10 is here SPOILERS if you have not seen the episode of course:
Tumblr media
Perry assigns our intern trio to go get interviews about Anthony Ivo. I previously mentioned Ivo's deal in the comics in this post, but we'll talk more about this version of Ivo later.
Tumblr media
Shout out to Lois' hanbok! As a kid in the 90s my first exposure to the DC was through the DC Animated Universe. Because of the way some of the characters like Lois, Clark, Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Terry, were designed, as a kid, I thought they were Asian. Very cool to see this version of Lois be Korean.
Tumblr media
Before Lois shows up for their black tie event at Ivo Tower, Jimmy knocks down a stack of papers and magazine and Clark goes to pick it up and stumbles upon the Metropolis Star with a cover that shows him as a kid flying 15 years ago.
Tumblr media
The Metropolis star is a rival newspaper to the Daily Planet in the comics. The publisher makes its first appearance in Superman #9 (1987) (W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tony Ziuko, L: John Costanza).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When our intern trio makes it to Ivo Tower, Lois spots some very interesting powerful and political figures of Metropolis, the CEO of Galaxy Communications and Mayor Fleming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galaxy Communications makes its first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133 (1970) where it was headed by Morgan Edge, the then leader of Intergang. In the comics Clark and Lois does work for Galaxy communications thanks to it buying out the Daily Planet forcing Clark to be the evening news anchor. The Galaxy Communications panels here are from Swamp Thing #68 (1988) (W&P: Rick Veitch, I: Alfredo Alcala, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza).
Mayor Fleming makes her first appearance in Action Comics #894 (2010) (W: Nick Spencer, P: R.B. Silva, I: Denis Freitas, C: Dave McCaig, L: Rob Leigh) where she appoints Jimmy Olsen and Sebastien Mallory as a welcoming committee for Dalwythians aliens. Like her MAwS counterpart she is obviously the Mayor of Metropolis.
Tumblr media
Later, Lois goes and questions Senator Sackett at the party/event.
Tumblr media
In the comics Sackett was a councilman not a senator who makes his first appearance in Superman #130 (1997) (W: Dan Jurgens, P: Norm Breyfogle, I: Joe Rubenstein, C: Glenn Whitmore and Digital Chameleon, L: John Costanza) depicted here in the issue's panel wearing a Superman costume. Sackett in the comics is in Luthor's pocket.
Tumblr media
I am like 99.99% sure this is Lex Luthor like who else in Metropolis is named Alex, has red hair (if this is Lex Luthor and he shows up again, I'll talk about him and what I mean by this in another post.), and works in the science and tech field.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finally meet Ivo and he is as I was hoping he'd be a major techbro tool. The way he acts in his introduction and his meeting with Clark is very much like Lex and Clark's meeting in Batman v Superman. Both Ivo and Lex upon meeting Clark know how strong he is. In MAwS Ivo punches his chest and it hurts him and in BvS you heard an audible thud when Lex knocks on Clark's chest. Very similar vibes between both scenes.
Tumblr media
Clark confronts Ivo about one of his deals and name drops one of Metropolis' mob families.
Tumblr media
Bobby Gazzo, head of the Gazzo crime family in Metropolis, makes his first appearance in Batman: Dark Victory #1 (W: Jeph Loeb, P&I: Tim Sale, C: Gregory Wright and Heroic Age, L: Richard Starkings). Fantastic sequel to Long Halloween, highly recommend reading both books.
Tumblr media
After Clark gets thrown out and Lois offers to repair his jacket, we see Lois mentioning her dad, Sam Lane a military general and if the person at the end of the second part of the first episode is Sam Lane...
Tumblr media
...and he shows up again in the show I'll talk more about it in another post. For now this is all just speculation.
Tumblr media
Might be reading into this but maybe a subtle nod to how the words "Superman" and "pal" are often used together. Both have been used as a comic book title, "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" as I've mentioned in these posts a few times.
Tumblr media
The show here did a very clever thing with Ivo. Normally any other media pertaining to Ivo would give the audience his power and weakness stealing robot Amazo, but here the MAwS team was able to combine both Ivo and another villain in Superman's rogues gallery, Parasite.
Tumblr media
The first Parasite, Raymond Jensen, makes his first appearance in Action Comics #340 (1966) (Cover Art by Curt Swan, George Klein, and Ira Schnapp). All iterations of Parasite have the ability to temporarily steal away anyone's energy, strength, and their knowledge. As I've said there have been other Parasites that Superman fought, the second and most recurring Parasite is Rudy Jones, the Parasite I'm more familiar with, who makes his first appearance in Firestorm #58 (1987).
Tumblr media
Cover Art by Joe Brozowski, Bruce Peterson, and Tom Ziuko Alex and Alexandra Allston the third and fourth Parasite (green Parasite and purple Parasite respectively) first appeared in the Adventures of Superman #633 (2004).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Gene Ha and Art Lyon
The latest Parasite, Joshua Allen, makes his first appearance in Superman #23.4 (2013).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Aaron Kuder and Dan Brown So yeah there are similarities between the Amazo robot and Parasite and it was smart of the MAwS team to just combine Ivo with Parasite to avoid redundancies. Besides the Amazo robot is more of a Justice League villain anyways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Near the end of the episode, after the Parasite suit wrecks Ivo's body, he begins to look more like his recent iterations in the comics now. The panel here is from Justice League of America #4 (2013) (W: Geoff Johns, P: Brett Booth, I: Norm Rapmund, C: Andrew Dalhouse, L: Rob Leigh). Hope you all had a wonderful time checking this post out. Like I said at the beginning my other MAwS easter egg posts are:
Episode 1 is here
Episode 2 is here
Episode 3 is here
Episode 5 is here
Episode 6 is here
Episode 7 is here and here
Episode 8 is here
Episode 9 is here
Episode 10 is here

SO. i was able to figure out the general structure of the script JLH leaked.
[explanation under the cut]
Tumblr media
in order for all this to make sense, the first thing you need to know is that in north america all screenplays (scripts) are written in the same format
knowing this, we can deduce the general structure of the scene and even the length of some of the words
first we need to address the big question everyone's been asking:
are they talking about Bobby or Eddie?
screenplays are always typed in courier font, and in courier the capital letters B and E are identical at their left sides.
so while i enjoy people trying to figure out if the blurry letter in line 24 is a B or an E, the answer is it could honestly be either
Tumblr media
where we really need to look is line one. the screengrab is blurry so i've outlined the word "going" and circled the area we should pay attention to
Tumblr media
at first, the last letter of the prior word looks like an undistinguishable blob, but there is actually one key thing we can discern from it: the letter can't be y, it doesn't hang low enough
there is a chance that the word is not a name and is "he" which would not rule out Bobby or Eddie. however, that would mean the conversation goes on for at least 14 lines without mentioning "him" by name which is (heavily) frowned against in screenwriting. so chances are they're talking about Eddie
also, with what we know about the characters it's most likely Eddie. can you really see Bobby not talking to Buck because of... well, anything? and we already know that Eddie has a difficult time communicating. so i've decided to go with him for this script but haven't 100 per cent ruled Bobby out
moving on to the actual script itself, anything not highlighted in red is something i'm confident is either the exact wording or something similar. the red sections are the parts that i'm less confident in or know are incorrect somehow
Maddie's first dialogue block is the part i had the most trouble with. with context from the following conversation i figured that she probably asked something along the lines of when [Eddie] will be back at work. the main issue with this section is that the top line is actually six letters shorter than what i have written. this also means that the word that follows "going" has to be at least eight letters long. i tried messing around with the dialogue a bit but couldn't come up with something that would fit the appropriate letter count so for now i just wrote a line similar to what i think the actual line probably is
line six has to be either 12 or 13 spaces long and the first word has to be at least four letters long so i used "really soon" as a place holder, but i'm not completely confident in it
for line eight i initially had "Oh, that's good." but the line was one space short so i changed the "Oh" to "Hey" instead. i don't feel too poorly about this one but it still doesn't feel right to me. if the actual script says "Hey" i wouldn't be surprised if JLH changes it to something else or forgoes the exclamation completely
the final line is just a rough guess of what it could be. i'm not sure how formal the 911 writers are with action lines so i just took a random guess. some writers are extremely formal with action lines while others are more comedic with it (Neil Gaiman is a great example of this). i'm guessing the 911 writers are more the former but i honestly have no clue

Honestly I'm with everyone saying that the admins wouldn't just kill an egg off. Some of those eggs were in complete safe zones. These admins have shown time and time again that they want keeping the eggs alive to be difficult but fair. Even if some eggs come back, if any of the eggs die despite the creators doing EVERYTHING to ensure they were safe while asleep, how are the creators much less the characters continue to believe that there is any safety anywhere? What was the point of Phil's caution, BBH's constant assistance (and paranoia), Fit's guidance, Foolish's langauge exchange, the N.I.N.H.O, the entire Ordo Theoritas, Etoile's training, Pierre's helpful factories, etc. if any of them would be taken away and die with no way to prevent it?
Bobby, Trump, Juanaflippa, Tilin, these egg deaths were so heartbreaking because they were preventable. With some better decisions or better communication, these tragedies would have never happened, and we would not be dealing with the fallout these little ones have left in their wake with their passing. There is a reason no eggs have died permanently to a creative-mode code attack. The admins know that it would tank player and audience immersion if the parents had no chance of defeating their adversary or getting them to flee. It would be like the admins spamming /smite repeatedly or just using /kill to take out an egg. There may be some argument that "these are the consequences of the new players having a death". I would argue this would be similar to the above issues, as the old players had no ability to affect Tubbo dying before they could get anywhere near the ice prison. If that's what it turns out to be, that's what it is. I won't be happy about it, but it's not my story.
TLDR: I think the admins have built enough goodwill with us as a community to trust them to continue the balancing act they've pulled off superbly so far.

7x05 Buddie Meta YDKM Part 4 (of 4)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
I really didn't want this meta to be four parts again, but there's just SO MUCH to analyze. Thanks for sticking with me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eddie is aware that going the route of trying to force a relationship, the route of over-committing almost never works for him, and yet he still wants to try again despite knowing that something inside him was trying to warn him this episode. He's ignored the signs yet again.
Going back again to the notion that Eddie doesn't really want to try again with this relationship because he so desperately wants to get to know Marisol. We know he doesn't, because we just saw when he was on his own, he closed the box on Marisol's things, his metaphorical chance to get to know her. So what does he really want to work out this time? The relationship. A relationship. Eddie would really like it if this relationship could work because as we saw earlier in the episode with Bobby, Eddie wants the relationship so badly, the domesticity so badly, that he doesn't care who it's with. He let go too early with Ana, and this time he's not doing that.
Eddie's words don't match his actions. He tells Marisol he wants to start over with her, get to know her, but he doesn't really act like it. It's possible in future episodes he might try to put in an effort, but at least from his attitude right before Marisol walked in, it didn't really feel like he was being genuine. So I'm not sure if really getting to know her is really what he wants. Sure, maybe this time he'll get to know Marisol, but I don't think it'll matter what he does or doesn't learn about her. Something will always be wrong, and he's going to have to learn that on his own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tone of this scene is made to make us feel hopeful, and yet the words themselves aren't really that hopeful. They speak of Marisol moving out in the hopes of starting over and getting to know Eddie better. Though he's smiling, Eddie's words feel odd. He's happy she's moving out. I'm not entirely convinced it's because he's excited to get to know her. Maybe that's an aspect of it, but it just feels to me like he's relieved she's moving out.
Additionally, I want to point out that Marisol was first introduced in season six in an episode called Home Invasion, and in this episode that was exactly what she was. She invaded Eddie's home, though it was an invasion he invited, and almost immediately regretted. I get the feeling that this episode's title isn't to be ignored because although we finally got to know a little bit about Marisol, Eddie failed to really learn the true root of his issues--because it's not catholicism, though it may be a part of it. When Eddie closed the box on getting to know Marisol, he closed the box on examining himself further, and therefore, Eddie still hasn't gotten to know his true self yet. However, I do believe this is the start of his arc, and more of this will be progressively deconstructed throughout this season, and probably extend into next season. I get the feeling that we're laying the groundwork now and that next season it's going to really pop off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same vein, Buck admits that he and Tommy don't know much about each other as well. The difference here is that Buck actually looks open to learning more about Tommy, open to actually seeing if what they have could be something worth exploring further.
Tumblr media
Tommy however does demonstrate a real care for Buck's feelings here. Maybe he could've communicated that a little bit better after their date, but his actions were done out of care for Buck in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line was once again vague. Because in the moment, you're lead to believe that Buck's unsure about possibly being in a relationship with a man, but wanting to explore it. In my opinion, this is another one of those statements just like the one Maddie gave him earlier in the episode, where he knows that he's on the right path now that he's discovered and accepted that he likes men, but he's not yet discovered who the right person he should be on this path with is yet. But something in him tells him that this, exploring men, is the right path, and that's what he's ready for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But for the time being, Buck wants to explore what he has with Tommy and I think that's a good thing. But it is also a good indicator that Bucktommy is not endgame and somewhere inside Buck (and likely Tommy too), he knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then get an interesting parallel with Buck and Eddie once again by having Buck make a pretty big step forward with Tommy. Most people would agree that asking someone you've only been on one date with to be your date to a wedding you're involved in is a pretty big jump. It's slightly more "serious" than they are at the moment. Whether or not this will backfire is yet to be seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I very briefly want to touch on the characters they're supposed to be. I originally did not understand the reference, but I saw this opinion piece someone posted on twitter and thought it was interesting to share.
Tumblr media
I just find it interesting that the writers made the choice for Buck and Eddie to be wearing couple costumes in the likeness of a pair that was also at some point read as queer-coded and had an "inseparable" relationship yet was never allowed to move out of subtext. Even if it wasn't the original writers of Miami Vice's intention, that doesn't matter to me. The fact that the relationship between Crockett & Tubbs appears to be a mirror to Buck & Eddie is what fascinates me.
This episode as a whole was mostly what I was expecting with Eddie doubling down on Marisol, but at the same time, I did NOT see the nun stuff coming and I definitely didn't see them diving into catholic guilt coming. My hope is that this laying down the groundwork to have Eddie work through these issues more later because this feels far from over.
I'm confident that this is the start of Eddie's eventual queer realization arc and I'm willing to wait however long it takes for them to write through it thoroughly.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

So they’re really pushing the communication aspect of all the relationships we’re seeing this season aren’t they -
Athena and Bobby - not communicating until they have to, then communicating well and them being stronger than before.
Maddie and chimney doing pretty well at communicating but things getting a bit lost in translation occasionally but even then they still end up on the same page and the strength of their relationship is evident. And they tell each other everything and that tendency is healthy and helpful
The subtle communication between Hen and Karen (that I’m sure were going to come into play much more as the season goes on) that speaks of how much work they’ve put into their relationship and how well they know one another
The fact we’re now seeing Maddie and Hen communicating after their chat last season - how much growth there has been there when before it was non existent - how Hen is trusting of Maddie because of Chim.
Some interesting tension in Hen and Chims friendship - the evidence that they normally communicate well but didn’t this time - which is pretty jarring when compared with the Jonah arc that showed their friendship off so amazingly. So this not communicating this time is setting off a mini siren and I think it’s being done e to set up some bachelor party shenanigans
The fact that Chris is prepared to be open and communicate with Buck - building on what we’ve seen in previous seasons - that Chris has this safe space he can be open in.
Then we have literally all of the calls and people on the boat - showing poor communication for the most part - rocket couple just sniping at each other, hot tub couple not being fully honest/keeping information from each other, car crash dude being incapable of communicating properly but also unwilling to. Lola and Norman not communicating so their marriage has become broken, the comma line on the ship being taken out by the pirates, the family all talking over one another and missing their sim who doesn’t communicate and is in his own world. The various other characters such as casino chips guy - communicating loudly over everyone else and drowning them out.
Tommy faking communication issues from the chopper.
The only ones we see communicating well are the captain and her second in command.
And then we have Buck and Eddie’s communication being all over the place. We have them talking and communicating well when talking about Chris, and they’re more in sync with each other on callls etc than we’ve ever seen them. But then we get this juxtaposition with other aspects of their lives - girlfriends and relationships. Even the Shannon aspect isn’t something we see them discuss - Eddie overhears it.
And that’s the crux of things really isn’t it - this inability to communicate with one another around relationships - because it’s the only thing they’re not talking about with one another. (We could argue that they’ve not talked about their trauma as well but the trauma is so very connected into their respective relationships that it feels like it’s one and the same)
I’m not sure exactly where I’m going with this beyond it clearly being a season set up around communication (even Maddie and Chim exchanging vows is them communicating) and that the show has loudly been setting up a failure to communicate for Buck and Eddie in this specific area is pretty telling given if you ask me- it’s the elephant in the room for them and it feels like we’re about to finally hit critical mass with it

Ok! My thoughts on 7x05!
First, i just wanna say that the whole Hen and Karen storyline is awesome! I love that the show is giving queer people so much screen time, especially a Black lesbian couple! And i think its super sweet that they really want to try for Mara! I hope it works out!
Next, i think that has been my favorite cold open so far. The “ITS MEEE” gets me every time (i have already watched it loads of times). I dont have much to comment on it other than it was funny as fuck
Ok. The date scene. I was hoping to see more of Eddie watching them (especially after the stills), but oh well. The second-hand embarrassment i got was… a lot. But i dont think its necessarily a bad thing. It showed how out of his comfort zone Buck was and how he was trying to navigate a terrifying situation. And Tommy? I might have to retract my earlier retraction. Cos wtf?? Literally had just finished talking about how its hard to accept yourself in a “macho” field, then makes a dig at Buck when he fumbles? Not cool. Then not communicating what was happening until he was getting in the Uber? You dont just abandon someone at a restaurant like that. I understand the “you’re not ready” thing, but that was a dick move.
Also, Buck, baby. Sweetheart. Darling. “I look at hot guys’ asses.” Sweetie. Like Maddie said. You are more than an ally lmao. I also just love how Maddie showed interest in getting to know who Buck was talking about and treating the convo after like a normal convo. Because it is! And i love it! But she also emphasized talking to Eddie, because she knew that Eddie would not react poorly. I feel like that just shows how everyone knows how close Buck and Eddie are. TLDR, Maddie is an awesome sister and Buck is lucky to have her ❤️
Next point, the scene where Buck and Tommy talk over coffee. I do think that the hand holding at the end is very sweet and shows how Buck is really trying to be more open, but Tommy is just really starting to rub me the wrong way. Pretty much everything he said contradicts what happened in the date scene. I feel like him being at the wedding is really gonna spark some Jealous Eddie, tho, so i am excited to see that lmao
And Eddie and Marisol? I feel like the show is going in a direction that leads them to breaking up. Like yes, it is showing growth for Eddie and allowed him to acknowledge that he has Catholic guilt, but theres just. No chemistry. It feels awkward. I feel like her being an ex-nun is gonna bring up some issues with Buck and Eddie will not stand for that. I also wanted to point out that i got even more vibes that Eddie could be demisexual, cos he didnt straight up say that he loved Shannon, just that he loved being married to her. And he knows that he is moving too fast and needs to step back a bit
Finally, Buck coming out to Eddie. I do find it funny that Eddie seemed more shocked that Tommy wasnt straight than figuring out Buck isnt straight. But its awesome that Eddie showed interest and genuinely wanted to help Buck through the issue. And the hug? Finally! Give me men not being afraid to hug each other! I feel like this is allowing Buck and Eddie to become even closer (i do hope for Buddie eventually)
Overall, i feel like this episode was great for setting up the development of Buck and Eddie’s relationship (whether it ends up being platonic or romantic). And i am all for Buck exploring his sexuality with someone that isnt Eddie. While Tommy isnt my favorite right now, i do think that he is great for the progression of Buck’s story. I do hope to see more of Dad!Bobby in the coming episodes and how Buck’s parents might react to Tommy. I dont wanna wait three weeks for the next episode 😢. Im ready for the chaos of the Madney wedding
If i think of anything else ill add on, but i think thats all i have for now. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Bathena: It doesn't matter how long a couple has been together for them to know each other.
Tumblr media
Here's something I just realized about 7x2. The conversation Bobby had with Norman after Norm had been shot was IMPORTANT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Granted there was a lot going on in last night's episode, I'm still excited about how great it was and I'm also still connecting all the pieces. I've only rewatched it once and I plan to again to find more connections but here's something I just realized about 7x2.
Bobby and Athena have been married for 4 years while Norm and Lola have been married for 36 years. But one of the things Bobby's and Norm's conversation highlighted very well is the the length of time two people have been in a relationship or marriage doesn't matter because as it turns out, Norm doesn't know Lola at all while Bobby and Athena know each other more than they believed they do. Their issue was they hadn't discussed their fears about their future (related post linked here) and it caused them to stop communicating.
The point is Norm told Bobby that him and Lola spent 36 years in a marriage, they raised a child and they spent days selling off everything they owned after they sold their house to retire. He even explained how they spent time handwriting the prices on little stickers to put on their memories and that they only got $2,800 for them.
As it turns out, after all those years, including the ones that followed Lola's "see me Norman" moment, Norm and Lola still don't know each other and they still don't see the other one like they thought.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But... it's possible all isn't lost because later in the episode Lola's actions showed she was trying to move past her infidelity because she couldn't stand being around Julian anymore. Only time will tell if Norm decides to work it out and they move forward but the fact is they don't know each other while Bobby and Athena do.
One last thing, Norm asked Bobby if it was his second marriage and Bobby said it was for both of them. It's important because 9-1-1 usually doesn't include dialogue in their scripts unless it means something so... it's likely it will resurface maybe as early as 7x3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bathena is fine, they know each other better than they think and their relationship is stronger than ever. Therefore, they don't have to worry.

Is it plausible that children are most often abused by people that they know (rather than strangers) because we've steadily and consistently reduced the capacity for children to interact with strangers in potentially abusive situations? I'm pretty sure that's not the case, but you've frequently discussed the topic and it seems like you'd know if there was anything to back up the idea.
I think children are most often abused and exploited by people they know because children spend most of their time around people they know, and children have a marked lack of autonomy in our society. In the past (and, sadly, too often in the present still) there has been a marked taboo around discussing these issues, a refusal to educate children in age-appropriate ways about sex (meaning they often don't even have the language to explain what has happened to them), and a reluctance to believe victims of abuse. In fact, I think the real incidence of CSA has probably gone down markedly in the last 75 years, but it's hard to get clear numbers on this bc for so long we refused to admit the problem even existed. A problem people refuse to acknowledge exists will of course seem to have a much lower rate of occurrence than one people openly acknowledge.
Stranger danger has never been the primary risk to children. The primary risk to children is parents, relatives, teachers, pastors, and other figures of authority in their lives. That's true for CSA, and for physical abuse, and for emotional abuse. And it makes sense; if you were the kind of person to abuse or terrorize or sexually exploit a child, the easiest children for you to target are children in your community, where your reputation and authority can protect you, where nobody could possibly believe such an awful thing, but you know, poor Bobby has always been troubled, etc., etc.
There is no clean solution to this problem. I think most parents, and most people who spend a lot of time around children by choice, do so because they genuinely like and want good things for them! I think the best protection against child abuse and exploitation is being open and communicative with children, educating them in age-appropriate ways, giving them the tools to defend their autonomy, and making sure that when they have problems they are heard.
And incidentally, I think a similar approach is also the best tool for online safety for kids. It's a lot harder for strangers with bad intentions (who do exist, though they are not the primary risk to children) to target kids with a stable, loving home life, who aren't ashamed to talk to their parents or to other adults in their lives about what's going on, and whose feelings and autonomy are respected by those adults. We cannot arrest and punish our way to a world that is safe for children! This is an authoritarian lie we tell ourselves, because the truth--that there is no escape from the hard work of actually caring for and about each individual child--implicates how we think about children in uncomfortable ways.

I was doing the S1 rewatch because I've seen around people complaining about Hen and Buck’s supposedly getting closer in s6 instead of seeing buddie more.
But the thing is Buck and Hen have always been close.
Hen has been the older sister to Buck from the beginning. (Not to replace Maddie, of course, but Maddie wasn't there for Buck in S1, and later, when she came, she had and still has her own problems.)
Hen talked Buck through his first wild weeks when Bobby wanted and did fire him, they played games on the tv together.
They helped Bobby through his rehab and basically developed a siblings relationship where the two of them, along with Chimney, wore Bobby down until he lowered his defenses and let them in.
A cute big sister Hen moment is when Abby comes to the firehouse for the first time and Hen is giving her the third degree, while embarrassing the hell out of Buck and seizing her up on whether she is worthy of her younger brother.
It's not for nothing that Aisha and Oliver are close, they were in this together from the beginning.
Now in S6, Eddie is just getting out of a rough patch and finally looks to be feeling better, same thing with Maddie.
The two closest people in the world to Buck are finally feeling better, and he doesn't want to burden them with his issues.
(A lot like in 5x11 when Eddie sees Buck laughing with the team and walks away because he didn't want to bring Buck's mood down - also fair chance that he was jealous of Lucy, like Buck was of Lena in S3.)
Buck originally went to Hen about the sperm donor thing because she and Karen had been there, and he wanted to know more.
But also Hen is a sounding board to Buck and an excellent secret keeper.
If we're looking farther back Hen was the one to welcome Buck back to the firehouse after the lawsuit and was also the one to stand up for him with Bobby, pointing out respectfully that Bobby is just being an overprotective dad (being respectful while calling him an idiot the entire time 😉).
Buck's connection to Hen is different than the one he shares with Eddie, for obvious reasons.
Imo, the sperm donor issue, falls under the same category as the gfs did. They don't talk about these things. I'm getting more and more convinced that for Buck, Taylor, Lucy, helping another couple to start a family, it must feel like sort of betraying Eddie.
Because they do talk about everything else, the year of possibilities, making captain, Buck's parents, Eddie’s family, everything involving Christopher, and so many other things we don't see but learn that they have talked about them.
When Eddie reluctantly tries to ask Buck about the donation, Buck looks almost traumatized lol which is the exact opposite reaction he had when he talked to Hen.
When Chimney tried to ask, Buck had a "nope, I'm not doing this with you, shut up" look.
But Eddie is different. He falls under husband category, and I will not take any arguments to the contrary.
Now the Buck and Eddie's communication and relationship this season is a whole other post.
But in the spirit of S1 parallels, Hen and Athena are finding their friendship groove again, and Buck reclaims his sibling bond with Hen again.
That doesn't make her more important than Eddie. In fact, it'll probably make her vital to the buddie pairing because if Buck confessed his love for a certain gorgeous medic/firefighter, it would definitely be to Hen.
I will hazard a guess that when Buck gets hurt and ends up in the hospital, we will most likely get a Hen trying to comfort Eddie and be with him until he can see Buck.

Doomsday13 Dreamswap-Multiverse
Nightmare
The early stage of the worldview: The authoritarian government (who had cooperated with JR) attempted to use children for human experiments. After the failure, a small number of experimental subjects escaped and disguised themselves as ordinary children, intending to subvert society for revenge. This is the early stage of the worldview from the end: a government (that is, The one who was supposed to use DS!Ink but in this universe they did not) attempted to use children for human experiments. After the failure, a few experimental subjects escaped and disguised themselves as ordinary children, intending to subvert society and take revenge. This is the origin of the apocalypse.
DS original multiverse was incorrectly merged into Domus Dea (creator issue)
Many characters have lost their magical abilities due to the fusion.
Out code characters have some magical abilities (weakened)
Guardian: As long as there is a stable energy source, they can continuously recover and can survive without eating, drinking or sleeping. They are also resistant to zombie viruses (unless they are bent on death, they will basically not be infected). Some guardians can change forms.
However, Dream and Nightmare are not a community of destiny in this AU (In most of my AUs, they are not the kind that if one dies, the other must also die)
The meaning here is roughly that if Nightmare dies, Dream will have memories of nm and feel negative emotions, and if Dream dies, Nightmare will have memories of Dream. (Headcanon)
Nightmare just escaped from the zombie area and had nothing. He could only use his sickles (connected by chains which was different with canon Dreamswap) to kill zombies and eat their meat. He acquired some zombie characteristics due to the zombie wave that initially attacked him, such as being more interested in eating raw meat.
DS Nightmare ''Robin'':
-Lawful Neutral → Chaotic Neutral → Neutral Evil (Canon DS’s nightmare is chaotic neutral)
-The maintainer of order in the black market, who is good at modifying weapons/vehicles, etc., was betrayed when the apocalypse broke out, and was used as a tool to vent his anger. After the use value was drained, he was thrown into the zombie crowd as bait. After that, the dark side of human nature broke out, he escaped from the gathering area and established a black market.
-He was an egoist who was in neutral faction (a bit of a dystopian style, after all, he hates the government which caused these events). If he encounters the teammates(Not Cross and Error) who betrayed him before, he will decisively become their enemy.
-Has lost most of his compassion and kindness.
- Occasionally rob government armed delivery trucks.
-Proficient in weapons: sickles, firearms, including sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, submachine guns, assault rifles, precision shooter rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers and rocket launchers.
-The pure gold headdress on his head was snatched away at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. After being passed around many times, it was given to ds dream (his brother).
-Currently, he made a new headgear using pure platinum by hand (after all, he have worn it for more than a hundred years and it is uncomfortable even if he don’t wear it).
-He used to serve as a soldier in the army under a fake identity and even became a major general. He basically pawned his military ranks and medals and established a black market. (his pseudonym is Lotus Crescent)
-Kevin was slaughtered at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse but there were some apple seeds left in the dust.
-Raised an eagle, and named it Kevin in memory of Kevin.
-He is friend with Randy, Bobby and Hacker on the black market (the three Creepypasta Squad members can be considered his previous acquaintances, after all, they are all in jail)
-He wears a long, thick cloak on the black market so no one can recognize him as the political prisoner who was wanted for hundreds of years before the end of time.
-Because of his name Robin, he is often mistaken for a girl.
-Occasionally kills government personnel because he believes that many such people are just freeloaders, using other people's survival resources to bully others.
-Nightmare’s life or death in the outside world is unknown

seriously in love with how community-driven qsmp has become. now that the french are here the others have wasted no time in rushing to help them out in any way possible. and in turn, so many people including the french players were around to help roier and jaiden try to get bobby back. now you have forever building an insane base with ender pearl stasis chambers to keep ALL the eggs safe and encourage the parents to take care of each others eggs and not just their own. no one is isolated on the server. everyone talks to each other and it's so heartwarming to see.
and of course, I can't help but compare it to dsmp. I'm not criticizing dsmp here I wanna clarify. I'm always going to the love the stories that came from that server even if I had my issues with it, and I'm never going to regret the time I spent following along with that server and the memories I made because of it. but after doomsday, everyone on the dsmp was so isolated from each other. any sense of community that had been still lingering after november 16th was truly gone. players retreated to their own bases and only interacted with the few people they trusted. and for a story like the dsmp, which slowly morphed into something with a much darker and more tragic tone than it started out with, this was fitting. the isolation was a natural consequence of the pain and war everyone had gone through. sure, there were moments of community popping up again, but it never lasted long.
but instead of warring against each other, the qsmp players are all facing a common enemy (the federation) and they all share a common goal (keep the eggs safe). it's them against the island. and I hope we continue to see these bonds grow stronger as the island becomes even more hostile to them.
(this is not an invitation to try and discourse about dsmp lore nor is it an invitation to criticize dsmp or theorize ways the qsmp could go down the same path. let qsmp be its own thing. let dsmp rest. I just noticed the differences in the community building on the two servers and thought it was interesting to point out)

For me it's that Dean blames Castiel for what happened with Belphegor because Castiel did the right thing but Dean is angry at him anyways and it's not fair
i mean, i fully agree that dean blaming cas for what happened with belphegor is not fair but i also think it's pretty obvious that that's not what their fight and subsequent breakup is actually about. the belphegor plan going wrong and resulting in rowena's death is just the straw that breaks the camel's back.
to me, their fight reads as dean being at his wits' end with everything that's happening and he's lashing out and he's taking it out on cas, which isn't fair, but at the same time he has every right to be mad at cas for other things. cas' fatal flaw is thinking he has to handle every single problem on his own, despite that never working out for him, and he literally never learns from it, and this time it resulted in mary's death. mary's death isn't his fault, of course, but what was going on with jack is just another thing that cas kept from dean. they've been stuck in a cycle of miscommunication for years.
dean 'please don't leave me' winchester wants cas to come to him with problems so that they can deal with them together and cas 'please ask me to stay' tiel wants to prove he's useful by fixing problems on his own so dean doesn't have to deal with them.
unfortunately for cas, his track record of actually fixing problems isn't great so to dean it just looks like cas is causing even bigger problems because...? he doesn't trust dean? he doesn't want to work with dean? hubris? whatever it is, they've been doing it for a decade. fandom likes to boil it down to dean being upset that cas didn't tell him about the snake but that's so reductive it's infuriating. dean's upset because cas was so concerned about what was going on with jack that he's immediately worried when he hears that mary's been alone with jack, to the point that he thinks jack's done something bad, and that instead of relaying these concerns to anybody else, he fucked off to try and fix it on his own and now it's too late.
mary's dead. jack's dead. chuck has been manipulating them their whole lives. was any of it real. rowena's dead. does any of it even matter. the only thing that feels real is the anger. they saved the world but at what cost. mary's dead. jack's dead. chuck has been manipulating them their whole lives. was any of it real. rowena's dead. ketch. kevin. charlie. bobby. crowley. adam. jo. ellen. ash. pamela. missouri. benny. meg. does any of it even matter.
the only thing that feels real is the anger.
my point is that the way dean is acting towards cas is unfair (and unproductive and unhealthy) but the anger he feels isn't unearned. and the show literally never solves this issue between them. dean apologizes for lashing out at cas but if cas hadn't sacrificed himself in 15x18, they would 100% have had this problem again at some point because they still haven't figured out how to communicate what it is they actually want.

why you should read FENCE
dear followers, you may be thinking "what is this obscure comic that you're suddenly full throttle obsessed with. i don't even know you anymore. i'm scared." and so i'm here to tell you what FENCE is and why you should read it
i'm not normally into comics, or stories about gay teenage boys doing sports. i prefer books about adult lesbians who can't do ten jumping jacks without getting lightheaded. BUT this series is magical, i swear. it takes a lot of tropes that are common to the genre and plays with them in such interesting ways.
here's our hero, nicholas, who has nothing but $2 and a dream of becoming a great fencer:
Tumblr media
and here's nicholas' father, who doesn't know he exists:
Tumblr media
and here's seiji katayama, ranked second nationally:
Tumblr media
and here's how it starts off for them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here's where they're headed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and who's that blond guy? i hope it isn't jesse coste, top-ranked fencing royalty, nicholas' unknowing half-brother, and seiji's ex-"something"...
there's a diverse cast of other characters to love, more than i can list here (but special shout out to the adorably energetic bobby, sunshine captain harvard and campus heartbreaker aiden, his bff and secret admirer).
Tumblr media
this story truly goes beyond what you'd expect from the genre. it's fun, funny and super cute, but it's also got a real sense of tension, of rivalry, of steadily simmering romantic potential that puts it in a league of its own. and, it's not explicitly stated (yet?) but this is def def def an ADHD/autism romance in the making.
we fence fans are a small community but we're really worried about this series not being able to continue if there's not enough interest. so i can't recommend enough that you check it out, and if you like it, buy it and show your support!
so far there are 5 volumes (each consisting of 4 single issues), and 3 out of 4 of the next volume (fence: redemption) have been released. the next issue is out on September 13, 2023 and it's gonna be a fucking juicy one.
where to buy: preferably your local comic shop, if not then bookshop.org to support local bookstores, or any retailer of your choice!
*if you can't buy it or find it in a library, you can find it online for free pretty easily via google, but please do buy it if you end up liking it.
i'm out of room for pics in this post but i'm also gonna link you to the special pride edition cover of fence: redemption #1 because it's really good. thank you for your time. *ungrips your shoulders*

Just in case it got wrong. I never said or wanted to imply that Bobby and Athena didn't have any development or didn't work on their communication as a couple since S4.
What I wanted to say is the root of their problems wasn't fully explored by the writers (as many things weren't for several characters), instead it was pushed aside, because they mostly brushed it off until a proper opportunity.
The proper opportunity is now, while reintroducing the characters in a new network. And as i said it won't kill anyone to watch the writers revisit their marriage problems. The writers revisited a lot of characters points, so i don't see the issue or annoyance in having a bit of focus on this aspect of bathena relationship.
In fact, the main reason of that post was me being slightly annoyed on people believing Athena is being ooc or at fault for this situation when the fact she is actually showing these flaws and insecurities is a huge win and show of personal growth considering her character as whole and in no way she is at fault for feeling insecurities around her relationship with her husband outside their usual routine.
