Book 13 of 70
The Night Circus bu Erin Morgenstern
387 pages, published 2011
I've heard so much about this book and how good it is, and seen so many videos where this is there favourite book. I avoided this book because I fear its not going to live up to the hype... It really does an amazing book well written with great use of second person narrative.
It follows Celia and Marco who find themselves being trained for a deadly magical dual which will test there limits and imagination whilst creating a fantastical circus.

How To Fall in Love with Reading Books Again
Tumblr media
With the rise of booktok and booklr, there has been a rise of people wanting to get back into reading. And I know from experience how hard it can be. I stop reading original fiction for about a decade and five years I decided to get back into reading. Now my reading goal is 75 books a year and I'm about 30% into my reading goal.
I'm not saying this to just brag. I'm saying this because you can get back into reading and here is how I did it.
1 ) Start Small
Your first instinct is to go for the biggest book possible. Please don't start off with a book like 'Dune' (which is 892 pages). Start off by reading short stories and novellas.
2 ) Make Easily Attainable Goals For Yourself
I started out my reading goal with 12 books a year. 12 books are the average amount of books people read and I wanted to get back to that. However, you can start out even smaller. Start with reading 5 books a year and don't feel bad if it's not as big as your favorite book influencers.
3 ) Read Different Formats
Despite the constant discourse in the book community around 'what type of format is considered REAL reading', audiobooks and eBooks are REAL books. Experiment with different book formats. I have personally found that I'm an eBook person who likes to dabble in audiobooks. Audiobooks work well with me when they are long fantasy books. You don't have to choose just one format, just find out what works best for you.
4 ) Read The Genres You Love
You will feel some pressure to read the most popular books but the quickest way to squash your love of reading is to read books that you hate. If you don't vibe with a genre? Don't read it. Read Manga, Comic Books, or Wattpad Novels. It all counts as reading. Reading is not a contest. Reading just for your entertainment is perfectly valid.
5 ) Have Fun
READING IS NOT A CONTEST! It's so easy to get into the comparison game (especially at the end of the year) but as long as you are having fun that is what matters.

🦇 24 Books for 2024 🦇
🦇 Good afternoon, bookish bats! I don't know about you, but the best part of Bookstagram isn't the book recommendations or memes; it's the community. I've been fortunate enough to have @booked.with.allie as part of my Booksta fam for a while now, and she's doing something really exciting this year: as part of her 24 Books to Read in 2024 challenge, you can find these adorable mini books on her Etsy LoveandLitShop for your own TBR jar!
💜 To encourage you to accomplish your bookish goals for the year (whether it's finishing one book, 24, or 100, you've got this!), here's a promo code you can use for a discount off your own mini books. Use JAZELLE15 on the LoveandLitShop on Etsy. My girlfriend is thrilled to show off my top reads as a little Christmas tree ornament each year. You can get your own customized book ornament or snow globe in Allie's shop! After using the code and receiving your own, tag both of our accounts show off your 24 books for 2024!

Random and not planned reflection on my reading goals so far this year because I feel like it (the fact that I want to buy more books but my stupid brain tells me that anytime I want to spend money for myself I should feel guilty has more part in this than I'd like to admit)
My personal reading goals for the year are:
Read 52 book (one book each week, I lowered my goal because I have no real odea of how being back in uni will influence my reading habits on the long run)
Make an effort to read books from my unread pile
Read the books I buy right away (I did it last year two and it went very well out of a little over 60 books at the end of the year I hadn't read only five or six, that I have now all read btw)
So how is it going? It's going very well at the moment. Since the beginning of the year I read 20 books, 13 of which were from my unread pile. So at the moment more than half of my read books of the year were from that pile. I bought 4 books so far, and I fully read two of them, and I am currently reading the third. The fourth of this list is not in my reading priorities because it's the book published by the authors of a podcast I really like and the contents of the book have all been parts of the episodes they made. So I know already the contents of the book, I mostly got it to support them and to annotate it when I'll be reading it. It could very well be one of the books I won't read this year. Additionally I was also gifted one book, which I read, so there have been no real additions to my unread pile, which is great. I have held myself back in the past couple of months, I have come across books I avoided buying because I knew I wouldn't have read them right away. I have a bad feeling the next time I will go to a bookstore I will make some damages because at the moment aside from the book I am currently reading I don't have real priorities in my physical tbr. This reflection was mostly useful for me to get an overview of how things are going with this goal. Also my graphic novel section is now fully read which is insane to me, and I am really in the mood for some new graphic novels, so I might treat myself with something new. This year I would also like to bring back going to the bookstore with no real plan and just get something that calls for my attention by an author I don't know. I found so many graphic novels this way when I was younger, and I really miss just browsing through the shelves and licking something obscure that just feels good.

Reading Goals for 2023!
Read more of the books I own. (I read 180ish in 2022)
Meet my Goodreads goal, but without stressing myself out.
Keep reading more nonfiction!
Read through my short story collections.
Read more on my Kindle and Kobo.
Keep using the library!
Curb my book spending unless it’s with a gift card, it’s a preorder, or if it’s a book I’ve already read and loved.
Re-Organize my bookcases at some point.
Read more of the manga I’ve collected.
Finish books I’ve started.
Write a review for every book I read.
What are some of your goals for 2023??

3/12
Okay I cried at the last chapter. The author was a resident doctor, so very close to becoming a highly successful independent neurosurgeon alongside his wife, also a doctor when he was diagnosed with cancer. A type of cancer that is fatal in pretty short order. He comes to term with his changing health over the next few years, deciding between continuing medicine and turning to writing, whether to have a child with his wife or not when he can't know when his time is up.
His wife finished the last chapter for him after he died. It was a beautiful tribute to him and I found myself imagining being in her place and I couldn't help but feel crushed and I'm in awe not only of his strength and endurance but of hers. Committed to raising their child alone and going on despite mourning.
10/10 going back to read again. Will probably cry again

Before I forget, I wanted to post the books I’ve just finished:
Harry Potter has always been a book I’ve wanted to read but growing up, I wasn’t really allowed to. Now that I’m grown, I’ve decided to dive in hole hog and I do mean literally (during my reading, I went to Half Price Books and bought ALL of the books). I know that a certain author is completely, and I do mean, COMPLETELY, not a person I want to support or even kick it with but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t in love with Harry Potter and his story so far.
Speaking of growing up, reading about Britney Spears through an academics eye was pretty eye opening, heartbreaking and in some respects, uplifting. I left the book feeling more for Britney, as a person and reviling in the thought of her being a “cash cow” of sorts. As someone who loved her music and her image as a kid, I feel very ick about how the world, particularly men and women in the industry, treated her as a money grab and an opportunity for bragging rights, sexually. It really is the behavior of those around her that made me want to throw something while reading the book.
Onto books 17/18 lol

Tracking Writing Progress:
There's like a dozen different spreadsheets, notebooks, etc out there. Here's a quick round-up.
If you like NaNoWriMo's Word Count Tracking, try Christie Yant. Christie Yant is an editor and author, she works in NYC, and every year she formats a lovely new word count tracker with pretty colors. Best part? FREE.
Tumblr media
2. If you want to track pages edited, words written, and have lots of nice visual graphics, check out Jamie Raintree. Now, this one IS paid ($20 for 5 projects or $30 for 10), but it allows you to track edits and set deadlines, and does the math for how much you need to do a day to meet said deadlines.
Tumblr media
3. If you need a physical word count tracker, try out this digital printable download from Taylor Epperson. There are a few different 'styles' of tracker, and there are 50k defaults and blank templates to set your own goals. $2.
Tumblr media
4. For something physical with a time tracker AND word count tracker, try out this one from Dragonfly Paper Press. It has a graph option, and lets you track half hours of writing to see how much time you're spending sitting down and getting stuff done. $5.
Tumblr media
5. And if you already have a paper planner, there's this set of word sprint stickers from Midlife Designs. They have large ones (linked here) and smaller ones available in their shop, NaNo trackers, as well as like a million other planner stickers. $5.50.

With February coming to a close, I want to pause and see where I am on my reading goals for this year.
3 books out of 12 have been read, placing me one book ahead of schedule.
735 pages out of 5,000 have been read, placing me 32 pages behind schedule.
It's a mixed bag, but I'm still proud of myself! These totals are higher when compared to where I was last year. I stuck with the same goals from last year as I didn't complete either of them.

Ooh! Also my newest book craving is that I want to be STRESSED while reading 📚
