I'm sincerely very happy for anyone who is enjoying the show but every time I see takes that the show has improved the book characterizations or that the book characters are underdeveloped in comparison to the show...
#our experiences are very different lmao#pjo show crit#sure the show isn't completely out yet#but id argue that the characters (namely the trio) seem way more developed and well-rounded in the book by this point in time (episode 4)#and look im not saying every change the show has made is bad#but by and far there has yet to be a change to characterization that feels like an IMPROVEMENT from the source material lmao#the closest contender I'd say is show Percy does seem a tad angrier than book Percy#but again I wouldn't call that an improvement... its just different and I think that /change/ works because it feels like the same essence#but even that has had some issues because I feel like the show has inadvertently cut down some of Percy's canon book empathy here and there#I think the show has nailed Annabeth's pride and intelligence and her warped worship of her mother#... but they've also made her hyper competent to the point that she's not making half of the mistakes she did in the book#which ISNT good because book annabeth is smart but she isn't infallible#its a big point that she has the theoretical intelligence but none of the real world experience/application#she gets tricked by medusa and goes to visit the Arch just cause she loves architecture and that's okay!! she's twelve and a nerd!#I also dont like that they've cut/toned down her little crush on Luke#actually they've not even showcased the familial bond between annabeth and Luke either in the show so like lmao#and then grover#by now grover's fear of failure and repeating this past mistakes and wanting a license has already been acknowledged in the books at least#in the show?? not so much#and his canon book suspicions and wariness of medusa... were given to annabeth#like medusa in the book was Grover's moment to shine cause his instincts were right!#and in the book fight he even very intentionally attacked medusa#but his highlights there were cut completely in the show#and finally sally#...idk who that is in the show but that's NOT my sally jackson#percy jackson#mine

Iron on my Tongue
Isaac x Reader
Isaac has a bad feeling about your meeting. (Isaac's POV)
Warnings: anxiety, description of blood, death of character
@chilliesillie and @kieran-rhoades created a vivid image in my mind of this scene so here it is written for you my loves<3 I hope I was able to capture this the way you imagined!
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
It’s a dim afternoon, grey clouds are settled in the sky with a promise of rain later and the wind is chilly. My partner isn't with me right now, maybe if they were I would be enjoying the weather more. I hope they make it back home before the shower.
They're out on their own business, a meeting with a client I introduced them to. As much as I'd like to pride myself in my improvements thus far, I still can't quite let them leave the house to meet someone completely unknown to me. Whatever client I hand over to them are well researched and kept on tab to ensure their meeting environment is a safe one and they’ll be able to get back home to me.
I still have my doubts regardless, but I can't control their every move. They deserve to live.  It’s funny because they tell me the same thing, "Isaac you deserve to live, without the worry and torment."
I don't think I'd ever be who I am today without them. The day I met them all those months ago, I'd never believed it if someone told me we'd not only be partners in my field of work, but also lovers. They're the one thing that means the most to me and I absolutely cannot let them get hurt. I trust them, and I know they'll do their best to stay safe but the underlying worry still bothers me.
There's this unusual feeling in my chest, the kind I haven’t experience in a while and worst of all, I'm not sure why it's there. It's bearable, but it's not. A distant but static feeling that hazes over my body and clouds my senses.
I take a sip of my coffee and its burns my tongue. It's hot, way too hot.
"Fuck" I pinch the space between my eyebrows and sigh.
My luck hasn't been the best today, but maybe a shower would wash away whatever this is and I can finally settle down. I push the cup aside and head for the bathroom, peeling the clothes from my body.
I let the water slide off my skin, the only thing on my mind is them. I could chalk this feeling up to just my anxiety, but this is more. This is an additional weight that presses against my chest and squeezes at my heart. An extra burden to carry on my shoulders, one I'm unfamiliar with yet I distantly relate to. Some sort of gut feeling that’s pointed in some unknown direction. I could easily pick up my phone and call them but their voice rings in my head.
"Here's the deal Isaac, no calls from you this time. We have to work something out little by little until you're comfortable with me leaving the house. Instead of you calling me, I'll call you before and after my meeting. Deal?"
I agreed to it of course. I want to be better. For them I want to be better, so each time I think of calling, I turn my phone screen down. I know their meeting started at 3pm and lasts about two hours, so I'm expecting a call at 5.
I step out the shower, tying my robe at the side. The first thing I do is glace at the clock.
4:55
I should be receiving that call soon, and since a shower did absolutely nothing to sooth my nerves, I'm hoping their voice will.
I'm back in the kitchen again, my phone sitting in front of me and I reach for the coffee I had left earlier. I take a sip and now it's too cold. What a day. I dump it down the sink without a second thought, it’s not important right now anyways.
5 o'clock rolls around and I'm impatiently bouncing my knee. There isn’t a single notification from them. 10 minutes. I'll wait 10 minutes and then I'll call. The feeling in my chests grows heavier and heavier and I'm counting down every second. I can't look away from my phone, waiting and hoping to see my screen light up.
5:07
That's basically 5:10 right? If I call now, it wouldn't make a difference. I frantically find their contact and click the small button near it.  I take a deep breath, then exhale. It's okay. They'll answer and say their meeting ran a little late and scold me for not waiting a full 10 minutes like I promised. Nothing bad is going to happen. I’m able to fool neither my mind nor my heart.
It rings, and rings, and rings... then disconnects.
There’s no answer. My heart rate picks up and I call again.
Same as before, it rings but no answer.
I attempt to call again, but the phone slips from my grasp. I hadn't noticed it before but my palms are clammy and covered in sweat, cold sweat. I drag them against my robe and quickly snatch the phone off the floor, skipping a call entirely to find their location.
The little icon is not at their meeting location, it’s not at the coffee shop they enjoy visiting, its nowhere close to home. Instead it stays stagnant at a foreign location, a maze-like pathway between a block of buildings.
I’m unsure about almost everything at the moment, but one thing I know for certain is that I need to find them. I leave my house right away. I call until their voicemail is engraved into my skull. I send text after text, but there’s still no response. I check their location again but the only icon that moves is my own as I get closer to my destination.
The rest of the way I need to continue on foot. I have a gun tucked into the waist of my pants and I don’t know what awaits me, or if I’ll even be able to fight it but if I don’t find them I might go completely insane. My stomach turns at the scent, and sight before me. It’s a dirty alleyway, much dirtier than the one I found them in. It makes me sick. The unease in my body casts over me like a giant shadow and it’s starting to make sense. It feels like a rat in my stomach trying to claw its way through my mouth. I hate it. I hate it so much.
I find their phone, their bag and random sheets on paper scattered through path. They’re covered in muddy footprints and soaked in murky water. Something bad happened, that much I knew, but there’s 3, 4, 5 maybe 6 pairs of footprints here. They were outnumbered.
“Name!” I yell. “Where are you?”
I run further and further down but there’s no sign of them. My heart is pounding against my chest and I’m so so scared. I’m looking everywhere but there’s no one here. I grip onto my hair in frustration. Where are they? Did those people take them away? Who were they? There’re hundreds of people who’d want to hurt me but specifically WHO?
“I-Isaac…?” a weak voice calls behind me.
I’m overcome with relief when I hear them, but the state I see them in as I turn around fills me with worry and rage.
They’re holding onto the mouldy walls, sliding down to the ground when they couldn’t support themselves anymore. Their body and clothes are covered in mud and dirt, ripped and bruised. I rush over to them, supporting their weight against my own body.
I’m worried, so worried but I’m relieved they’re still here. I’m relieved they’re still alive.
“God, Pickle” I place a hand against their back, its warm and wet, and they wince in pain at the pressure. “Where are you hurt? Who did this to you?”
“Isaac,” they smile up at me, a hand reaching for my face. “You came. I knew you’d come.”
I hold their hand against my cheek. “Of course, my love. I’ll always find you I promised to protect you always.”
“My knight.” Their voice comes out faint and dull.
“Yours, always yours.” I lean down to kiss them, gently on their lips. It was supposed to be a simple kiss, more as reassurance to my self than them but I taste iron against my tongue, metallic and salty. I pull away abruptly and their body bends forwards choking on coughs as the red liquid spills from their lips. Blood.
It's on the concrete, my pants and my hands? The hand I had against their back… It's covered in blood?
Their jacket wasn’t soaked with water? The warmth I felt wasn’t from their body? It was their blood.
“Isaac.” Their hand is on my face again, pulling me from my thoughts. “You’re *cough* spacing out my darling.”
I don’t bother responding, pulling their jacket off their shoulder. Red, it's all red. Their shirt is soaked through and through with blood and ripped in multiple areas. Stabs, fuck they were stabbed.
“No no no!” I panic. “I need to do something, I need to get you out of here!”
“Isaac please, I can barely move. Its’s *cough* gonna be okay, just please stay here with me.”
“How could I let this happen to you? Why not me instead?” I feel tears roll down my cheek and I’m terrified.
“It’s not your ugh fault Isaac. Please, for my sake, don’t blame yourself.” Their voice continues to weaken. I feel stupid for honouring their request of just staying here, but some part of me knows that there’s nothing I can do now.
 “Isaac, I love you”
“Yes, I know my love. I love you too, I love you more than anything.” I feel like a child again, crying my eyes out. I should be the one comforting them, but my voice is filled with fear and my breathing is unsteady.
“Thank you… for all you’ve done for me.” Their voice fades in and out. “Please don’t ever forget me”
Their hand falls from my face but I catch it pressing it back onto my skin. “No, you have to keep your eyes open! Please! Keep your eyes open name! Don’t let go of me!”
“I’m… sorry Isaac. I don’t think I can.” They barely whisper, their eyes struggling to stay open.
“No please, not now! I’ve only just gotten you, you- you can’t leave me yet.” I held them close, sobbing into their hair.
We never made it home before the downpour. I stayed there with them to the very end. I held them in the freezing cold until their breaths slowed. I held them until the warmth drained from their body and they also grew cold. I stayed there until left me for good.
I held my composure, for their sake, wrapping them in my jacket and took them home. I washed their body until they were completely clean before tucking them into bed. One last time, they were by my side. Tomorrow they’d be resting in my garden resting among the flowers, and my mother would finally meet the love of my life. I hope she’d be proud of me, I hope they’d reflect fondly of me.
I hope they’d forgive me for the things I must do in the future.
I hope they’ll shield their eyes and stay blind to the things I will do. Every last breath of mine will be used to avenge them. I will find those who are responsible for this, and I’ll make sure they regret it.
I couldn’t protect as a knight, so I will destroy everything as a shadow.

It's dark. The only source of light is the small lamp in the corner and the dim screen that illuminates Jungwon’s face. His fingers hover listlessly over his phone screen, landing once again on the Twitter icon.
Jungwon chews on the inside of his cheek as he refreshes your profile. Once. Twice. And again. Nothing new, just like the last 40 times he had performed this ritual. So he resorts again to looking at your last tweet.
He basically has your caption memorized at this point, and your image burned into the back of his eyelids. That doesn't stop him from examining the picture over once again, committing each detail to memory. “She's on a date with him, that could've been you. It should've been you,” a traitorous voice hisses spitefully in his head.
“Shut up. It couldn’t have been me because I wouldn't have been able to afford to take her to such a nice restaurant in the first place. That's why I’m even in this position. Stupid La Raisin or whatever it's called.” Jungwon rebukes the envious voice bitterly.
He sighs at the realization that he’d officially lost his sanity and had begun arguing with his inner consciousness. Closing his phone with a resounding click, Jungwon watches as your picture fades to black and tosses the device somewhere to his side.
Exhaling deeply, Jungwon stares at his ceiling trying desperately to distract himself from the fact that you were somewhere, sitting across from Na Jaemin, probably planning your perfect future together. One that doesn't include him. Fuck this sucks so bad.
It's silent, save for the occasional honks of traffic outside and the muffled laughter and yells from his roommates downstairs. Silence that only welcomes more thoughts that inevitably trail back to you.  Maybe I should’ve joined game night. Anything would be better than drowning in my own self pity up here alone.
His inner monologue is broken by the chime of a single notification. Jungwon reaches for his phone wearily, expecting a chiding text from Jake for sulking in his room again. But his screen reads differently.
Y/N <3 : Hey. I’m outside. Let me in?
Jungwon stares unblinkingly at his phone, waiting for the mirage to fade from view. Or a follow up text that says 'wrong person sorry' or 'jk its a prank'. It doesn't, instead another bubble pops up underneath the previous one and Jungwon’s heart feels as if it might leap out of his throat.
Y/N <3 : Come on Jungwon, don’t make me ring the doorbell. Just open up, yeah?
Jungwon blinks, and in a flash he’s bounding down the stairs before he can even think to deny you. He ignores the way his roommates' heads turn curiously at his haste, stalking over to the door and throwing it open.
You jolt at the sudden movement before your eyes land on Jungwon and you relax into an easy smile, “Hey Jungwon.”
Jungwon stares back at you, as if he can’t believe that you were truly in front of him. His eyes trail over the satin fabric of your dress, the fur haphazardly draped over your shoulders, and the necklace that sits snugly in the hollows of your clavicle. You swallow nervously at his lack of response and his eyes follow the movement up to your flushed face, finally landing on your eyes.
“Jungwon? Who is it? You good?” Sunoo questions from inside the house but Jungwon doesn't bother replying. Shifting awkwardly at the tense air, you cock your brow teasingly at Jungwon, trying to fake nonchalance. “So? Are you gonna let me in?”
Jungwon wordlessly opens the door a bit wider, tilting to the side to offer you entry. Internally you sigh in relief and step inside, ignoring how Jungwon’s fingers brush against your waist to steady you as you take off your heels.
Choosing not to wait for Jungwon’s direction, you make your way further into the house. You greet the boys with a quick wave before marching up the stairs to Jungwon’s room, plopping yourself down onto the edge of his bed. Jungwon’s stood still at the bottom of the staircase, looking up at where you had disappeared into his bedroom.
“Bro, what are you doing? You’ve been miserable for weeks. Go. Talk to her.” Jake motions exasperatedly at Jungwon who nods numbly, stumbling up the stairs. Jungwon walks into his room shutting the door behind him, finally facing where you look at him expectantly from his bed. You gesture for Jungwon to sit beside you but he declines with a shake of his head, standing at an arm's length from you.
He regards you for a second, taking in your appearance. Unlike the usual sweats and oversized tees you donned around him, you were dressed to the nines. It suited you, the draped satin across your body, the fur coat that had slipped slightly, exposing your bare shoulder that seemed to glow under the moonlight.
Your jewelry glitters even in the dim lighting, and it's almost painful to look at, the way you shone. You didn't seem the slightest bit uncomfortable in your attire, you wore it like a second skin.
You looked so out of place amongst Jungwon's simple belongings. His jaw clenches at the thought, you were right in front of him, but you had never felt farther out of reach.
“Why are you here?” Jungwon asks quietly and your smile falters slightly at the question. It’s the first thing he’s saying to you after weeks of radio silence, and it stings. You push down the hurt that bubbles underneath the surface of your skin and shrug impassively.
“I wanted to see you, I missed you,” you answer simply. “You didn’t miss me?” Your eyes bore into Jungwon intently, scanning his face for any indication of the warmth you so desperately craved.
Jungwon brushes off your words, continuing resolutely, “You should be on your date with Jaemin, why are you here Y/N?”
Anger flares in your chest, and you scoff, crossing your arms in annoyance. “Jungwon, do you really dislike me that much?”
“No, I-”
“Then why do you insist on forcing me to go through with this Jaemin thing? Why do you insist on ignoring my feelings and distancing yourself from me? At this point I'm just convinced that you’re sick of me,” you glare at Jungwon accusingly.
“I am not sick of you,” Jungwon splutters indignantly, “I just want what's best for you. Jaemin is a nice dude with a stable future, he’s perfect for you. You're supposed to be with someone like him.”
You throw your hands up in frustration, “Oh my fucking god Jungwon. I want you. What don’t you understand about that? Even Jaemin can see that I’m not supposed to be with him, I belong here with you. And if you don’t want me here then just tell me. But if you do, stop hiding behind this Jaemin thing just because you’re too much of a coward to admit to yourself that you have feelings for me.”
Jungwon’s nostrils flare at your accusations and his fists clench tightly at his side. “I’m not hiding behind anything,” Jungwon snaps, “I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anything else in the world, and I want to be selfish but I can't.
I have nothing to offer you. I’m a dance major not some CEO, I don’t even know where I'll be in 5 years. I can’t guarantee a secure future for you. I won’t subject you to a life where you have to give up on your wishes and be forced to work in your dad’s company for me. So if being with Jaemin means that you’re secure and happy then yeah, I'm going to push you towards him.”
“Honestly Jungwon, you're worse than my father,” you scoff rolling your eyes, “Regardless of all the shitty comments my dad made, at least he left the final decision to me. But you? You chose for me without even considering or asking what I wanted. I don’t care about my future if you’re not in it. What made you even think for a second that I would care about any of that?”
“Yeah? Well I care. I care because I know you deserve the entire world and I can't give you that. I can’t even come close. And I won’t be able to live with myself knowing that I robbed you of the life you deserve just because I was too fucking selfish to let you go,” Jungwon seethes through gritted teeth.
You rise to your feet in anger, stalking over to where Jungwon stands, leveling him with a steely glare. “None of that matters to me, Jungwon. I don't care if you don't think you’re what I deserve. You're what I want. You're what I need. And if you didn't want me, if you didn’t want more from us and you were happy with the way things were between us? I was fine with that. I could deal with the burden of my feelings being unrequited.”
“I would’ve been fine if we had stayed nothing more than friends, as long as it meant you were a part of my life,” your stare hardens and you poke Jungwon’s chest angrily, “But you wanted to cut me out of your life entirely. Are you seriously okay with us ending like this?”
Jungwon grips your wrist tightly, halting your motions and yanking you closer to glower into your eyes. “Don't you get it? There could never have been an us in the first place, you think that doesn't kill me? To know that you’ve always been out of my reach and I’ve just deluded myself the past few months into playing along with this stupid fantasy? Y/N, you were never mine to begin with.”
Something inside of you snaps. With your free hand you grab a fistful of Jungwon’s collar and pull him down. Your lips crash together in a bruising kiss, fueled by a desperation to make Jungwon understand just how wrong he was.
Jungwon stiffens at the contact before giving in, finally allowing himself to do what he had yearned to for the past month. He melts into the kiss, slotting his lips against yours with equal intensity. Jungwon releases your wrist , his hands sliding up your jaw to cradle the sides of your cheeks in an attempt to bring you impossibly closer.
You kiss Jungwon with the force of every drop of emotion you feel for him. But Jungwon kisses you like it may be his last opportunity to ever do so, as if you're already slipping through the gaps of his fingers. He kisses you like goodbye.
The sentiment is enough to jar you from the feeling of his lips against yours and you break apart, panting as you look up at Jungwon with blazing eyes.
You take a shaky inhale. “Don't ever fucking say that. Not when everything I’ve ever wanted and needed is there in your eyes. I love you Jungwon. I love you more than what I know what to do with,” you step back, letting Jungwon's hands drop limply from from your face. You run your hands through your hair in aggravation, jaw clenching as you look for the words to somehow get through to him.
“I’ve always been yours, and I always will be, whether you want me or not. I told you before, I’ll take every bit of you that you allow me to have. But I refuse to concede what you’ve already given to me. It's not fair. I refuse to lose you entirely, especially just because you're too much of a coward to even take a chance on us,” your chest heaves under the weight of your confession.
Jungwon’s brain feels as if it’s short circuiting, he knows you’re waiting for an answer but all he can think of is pulling you in for another kiss. He opens his mouth to say something, but the vision of you before him, with disheveled hair and reddened lips has his mind coming up blank.
You scan Jungwon’s face, not really knowing exactly what you're looking for. He's still frozen, his mouth opening and closing around sentences that refuse to escape. The pretty flush of his cheeks and his blown out pupils are enough to make your anger deflate and you collect yourself with a shuddering breath.
In the absence of the adrenaline and the blood roaring in your ears, you feel the brunt of the exhaustion and the emotional toll the night had taken on you.
You drag your hand down your face with a groan looking up at Jungwon tiredly, “Look Wonnie, I’m sorry. This isn't how I wanted this conversation to go. You don't have to give me an answer right now. I know it's a lot. So just take some time to think everything over okay? And if you're still not sure that's fine, we can figure it out together. But please, just don’t shut me out again.”
You give a small smile and utter softly, “I really do love you Yang Jungwon, more than anything. I’m gonna go home now okay?”
Jungwon's unable to do anything but nod stiffly in response, swallowing harshly. You give him a final fond smile and turn to leave and his fingers twitch slightly in a last attempt to reach for you.
You open the door and six boys stumble in, landing in a heaped mess at your feet. They scramble to their feet stammering apologies and excuses, as you smirk at all of them in amusement.
With a shake of your head you wave them off wearily and leave, sparing one last glance back to find Jungwon still glued to the spot you left him, his eyes firmly stuck on you.
The room is dead silent as the boys wait with baited breath to hear the front door click shut. The close of the door is deafening and all six heads swivel towards Jungwon.
“Hyung, holy shit. That was insane.” Niki says reverently and Jungwon nods mutely, letting himself crumple against the side of the bed.
The comment sparks a bombardment of questions and exclamations but all Jungwon can hear is the echoes of your confessions ringing in his ears.
His mind races back to the way your lips molded perfectly against his, the brightness of your eyes under your lashes when you finally pulled away. The barely subsided heat crawls back up his cheeks and Jungwon buries his face in his palms with a strangled whimper.
“Fuck I think I'm in love with her.”

Why do you think the epilogue of "Jane Eyre" gives so little attention to Jane's becoming a mother? Just once sentence that doesn't even touch on Jane's feelings about it, only that Rochester regained enough of his sight to be able to see his firstborn son. Why should such an enormous, life-changing aspect of her married years be so deemphasized?
Hi!
If you ask me, I think the very simple answer is that Charlotte Brontë didn't like children. Even Adele herself in the novel is very little more than a plot device to have Jane at Thornfield (this is one of the reasons why the 1996 heavy focus on childhood and the consequences of unhappy childhoods, ending with Jane and Rochester adopting Adele and raising her as their own is both a strong departure from the text but also an interesting commentary on it).
I feel like Elizabeth Gaskell explains it in a way that makes sense in her The Life of Charlotte Brontë:
"...teaching seemed to her at this time, as it does to most women at all times, the only way of earning an independent livelihood. But neither she nor her sisters were naturally fond of children. The hieroglyphics of childhood were an unknown language to them, for they had never been much with those younger than themselves. I am inclined to think, too, that they had not the happy knack of imparting information, which seems to be a separate gift from the faculty of acquiring it; a kind of sympathetic tact, which instinctively perceives the difficulties that impede comprehension in a child’s mind, and that yet are too vague and unformed for it, with its half-developed powers of expression, to explain by words. Consequently, teaching very young children was anything but a “delightful task” to the three Brontë sisters. With older girls, verging on womanhood, they might have done better, especially if these had any desire for improvement. But the education which the village clergyman’s daughters had received, did not as yet qualify them to undertake the charge of advanced pupils."
"No doubt, all who enter upon the career of a governess have to relinquish much; no doubt, it must ever be a life of sacrifice; but to Charlotte Brontë it was a perpetual attempt to force all her faculties into a direction for which the whole of her previous life had unfitted them. Moreover, the little Brontës had been brought up motherless; and from knowing nothing of the gaiety and the sportiveness of childhood—from never having experienced caresses or fond attentions themselves—they were ignorant of the very nature of infancy, or how to call out its engaging qualities. Children were to them the troublesome necessities of humanity; they had never been drawn into contact with them in any other way. Years afterwards, when Miss Brontë came to stay with us, she watched our little girls perpetually; and I could not persuade her that they were only average specimens of well brought up children. She was surprised and touched by any sign of thoughtfulness for others, of kindness to animals, or of unselfishness on their part: and constantly maintained that she was in the right, and I in the wrong, when we differed on the point of their unusual excellence."
From a letter from Charlotte to Gaskell:
"Whenever I see Florence and Julia [two of Gaskell's daughters] again, I shall feel like a fond but bashful suitor, who views at a distance the fair personage to whom, in his clownish awe, he dare not risk a near approach. Such is the clearest idea I can give you of my feeling towards children I like, but to whom I am a stranger;—and to what children am I not a stranger? They seem to me little wonders; their talk, their ways are all matter of half-admiring, half-puzzled speculation."
I wonder how her feelings would or wouldn't have changed, had she survived her pregnancy and gotten a child of her own with the husband she loved.

yeeeeah, I know knb, a good series even though I didn't finish it 😔🤌🏻
Tumblr media
You were someone young when you first met the Generation of Miracles, completely fascinated by the basketball games of that team, you could not resist asking for your internship as a coach there. When they were in middle school you had just finished your studies in sports science, so you applied to go to Teiko as your final grade internship. Many people took you as another miracle added to the team, but you did nothing more than polish those six guys flaws, and your work wouldn't have been as noticeable if it wasn't thanks to their manager Momoi.
Although you decided not to finish your studies there, also noticing how the atmosphere of what at first was a united and hard-working team gradually broke down, you did not meet any of them again after they separated to go to different high schools. So during those years you started studying a management degree while looking for a job, you ended up working for, without knowing it, the most sought after gang in all of Tokyo. It's not that you didn't know about Bonten, but when you accepted the job they obviously didn't put anything related to that mafia, since at least you were working in one of their legal premises.
How you got to know all the executives and the leader himself was through your performance, rising through the ranks quickly, since not many people wanted to work there, the truth is that you didn't either, but it was already too late and you had a confidentiality contract. The thing is... it wasn't as bad as you thought, not as bad if you take away all the illegal shit they do behind the scenes, but since you weren't involved in those problems, you took it in a better way.
Probably the one closest to you is Kokonoi or Mochizuki due to the fact that they were the ones with the least legal problems, you had a love-hate relationship with the Haitani because they liked to mess with you from time to time. Kakucho was definitely the one who calmed all your nerves for being the sanest one there, just like Takeomi, you couldn't say the same about Sanzu, he always made you nervous because he walked around with a gun like it was his dog. You didn't see Mikey much, but your relationship was mere cordiality, for the moment you hadn't bothered him and you had done your job well so he had no problems.
So from one day to the next you found yourself being friends with one of the most powerful mafias in Tokyo, putting aside that sporty side of yours for a few years until one day, while cleaning your apartment, you found a photo with Teiko's basketball team. The nostalgia hit you so hard that you spent the whole day thinking about those years, your love for basketball having only crumbled a little because of the breakup of a good team.
You spent the next few days looking for information about them, they had already finished their studies and it seems they all met again at the university, you were surprised to see all those matches in which Kuroko won and you felt completely proud to see that everyone had improved their techniques, even though Aomine didn't appear much until the end.
The thing is that its gameplay reminded you of the old team, maybe it was a hasty or impulsive choice, but your contract with Bonten ended in a week, despite having a good salary and position, you wanted to feel again what was to be a coach. The decision took everyone by surprise of course, normally employees don't usually decide to end the contract and renew for another year, or they are simply the ones who have to get rid of people who don't serve them, but they had a good relationship with you.
Mikey didn't take it too seriously, but he was curious as to why you did it, since he had some regard for your hard work even though you knew they were criminals.
"Well? Have you found any information?"
Takeomi nodded, passing a folder to his leader, although of course, he wasn't the only curious one, everyone was looking for information about you.
"Oh, basketball coach, seems to do well right?"
"Aren't those guys the generation of…? erm... yeah, whatever, they're famous."
Sanzu simply didn't care about that team, he just looked at the photos where you were smiling holding the tournament cup.
"Look, this is the most recent news, it was on yesterday's news."
Rin turned on the projector, playing an informative sports video announcing your reunion with the generation of miracles for the Japanese team.
"Looks like I'm going to have more work now..."
Kokonoi leaned back massaging his scalp, you took a lot of work off of him and now he was on his own to take care of it all.
"I hope they win."
Mikey left all the photos of old championships won, intertwining his fingers, you were a good worker, he respected your decision to return to the sport but I also hoped that you would return with them, for now he would limit himself to seeing your progress in this tournament with your old team.

"house of anubis has bad writing"
so i have a bit of a pet peeve when it comes to critical discussions about tv, and i'm going to use house of anubis as a vehicle through which to talk about it since i think it's a very good case study of this particular problem.
it's pretty simple: "x has bad writing"
saying something has "good writing" in passing is fine -- not every conversation needs MLA citations -- but for the sake of this post not being a million words long to account for every nuance possible, let's discount those situations and suppose that this is in the context of an extended critical discussion about something, and specifically calling out the "writing" as the culprit.
the funny thing about "writing" is a lot of the time, that...isn't what's being identified in a statement like this. this is where i'm going to start talking about house of anubis so i can give you an actual example
house of anubis has what i would call strong writing for most of its run, with a few notable exceptions (that i'd like to note are localized, specific problems!). when i say this, i'm thinking about specific parameters: the coherency and structure of the story, the pacing, the tone, the consistency and fidelity of the characterization, the quality of the dialogue (doing everything possible to only consider the words themselves, not the performances from the actors), and bells and whistles/creative choices that elevate it past functional narrative and into a piece of art. that is writing.
things that aren't writing that have a huge impact on how the writing/story is digested and are heavily influential creative choices in their own right BUT are literally just. not writing. that get commonly conflated with writing: ACTOR PERFORMANCES (i would write this one 100 times if it made a difference), shot composition, editing (both cut-to-cut and structural editing), and in some cases production design (so sets/props/costumes).
house of anubis is a great case study for this because oftentimes (especially in this VERY cynical phase of pop culture we're in) people conflate things that are earnest, low budget, or camp (especially when talking about elements in the "not writing" category) with "badness" when, while you don't have to like it, if you changed the lens through which you observed them, "bad" would be...not apt as a description. that being said, house of anubis isn't a great case study just because it's camp, but because, as the strongest example here, sometimes the performances are just Not Good. i will not name names (especially since everyone has their moments/odd line reads AND you can see clear improvement over time). but hopefully you know what i mean. it CAN affect your opinion of the story as a whole in a way that like...okay if you were watching season one for the first time as an adult, i wouldn't blame you for being turned off by the pilot, or hell, even a solid 80% of the entire first season.
i've attempted hoa watches with rl friends 3 times now, very recently finished s1 with someone actually, and noticed that more often than not, it was the acting (either because it's a very characteristic/camp/borderline theatrical style that takes getting used to or because it's...roughest at the beginning) that was turning them off. sometimes that was highlighting existing writing issues, but especially during arcs like the play/patricia's kidnapping that are structurally sound, perceived "cheesiness" in the acting would leach into the perception of the writing. we actually skipped the first 5 episodes entirely to try and mitigate the parts that are a bit hard to sit through without prior investment (i showed them the recap portion of the video essay i'm working on instead because they'd seen the pilot before and quote "could not handle that again" LMAO) but i noticed something interesting: while it took them a while to come around to fully enjoying the show, there was a period before that where i could tell that something shifted -- they were invested in the story, but they were still reacting like we were watching a neil breen movie. once the acting picked up, "oh this is garbage" (affectionate) turned to "wait a minute this is good."
that is the difference between bad writing and bad [something else].
this is a post about how house of anubis has good writing more than anything, but i do have to talk about the actual bad writing to make this point. early s1 has a particular type of writing flaw that's both INCREDIBLY interesting to break down, requires good writing ability to make in the first place, and unfortunately, is a KILLER for interest in a show like house of anubis, especially when it's taken out of its original context of being released every couple weeks in runs of 4 days of a new episode each night (which side note: COOLEST release schedule i've ever seen a show do. BRING THIS BACK) and binged instead.
quick interjection because i realized that how i define the plots in this show is not at all universal and i haven't talked about it before/released that damn video yet so you won't know what i'm talking about: until episode 9, season 1 has TWO A plots -- whatever nina/fabian/amber are doing (A1), and whatever patricia's doing (A2). at episode 9, they converge, so it's a more conventional singular A plot, but the reason i insist on it being 2 A plots before that instead of the show having an A/B/C/D plot and then A/B/C is a) for clarity's sake since the other plots don't change at all so why shift their categorization b) calling patricia's plot the D plot so you don't have to do that would imply it's the least important when it's easily the MOST important (it gets all the coolest reveals let's be real) + the C plot usually changes every episode/couple of episodes so putting a long-running plot after what is usually just a runner in the hierarchy makes things needlessly complicated c) they DIRECTLY converge in a way that's well telegraphed from the start. you KNOW whatever nina's doing is related to what patricia's doing from the pilot, and that's good.
so let's be real here: the A1 plot kinda sucks. not because the content itself is bad on its face -- that part of the writing is fine -- but because the individual scenes and what information they drip-feed the audience are poorly paced. the most egregious scene is the one in episode 5(!!!! FIVE) where fabian finally notices the eye of horus in the stair railing (by getting his shoelace caught on the doorknob somehow -- don't get me started), shows nina, and they come to the EARTH-SHATTERING realization that robert frobisher-smythe was really interested in egypt! 💀 it's not so much about them...coming to an obvious conclusion...even if that was what caused my ??? kneejerk reaction, but more that we spent an entire scene on this information (that even to a kid wouldnt bear stating), and it's not the first (nor the last) time that something like this happens in the A1 plot. meanwhile, in the A2 plot, patricia is learning something LEGITIMATELY earth-shattering once or twice a scene, and with multiple scenes in an episode for her, it's difficult for the A1 plot to keep up in terms of intrigue/information weight. the audience can tell that nina's the main character and that whatever she's doing is the "main point," but it gets increasingly difficult to make that case when patricia is getting gangstalked while they're visiting sarah over and over without learning anything new.
the real rub here isn't even in the comparison itself but in the fact that they're still, ultimately, both the A plot, and the characters in each need to get to specific places in the information they have/things they've experienced before their plots can converge properly at victor kidnapping rufus. when you compare them, there's a discrepancy pretty quick: patricia has way more things she has to piece together than sibuna do. thus, the sibuna plotline is artificially sandbagged with repetitive scenes, reveals that don't deserve the fanfare they get relative to the actual content of the reveal, and contrivances (see: fabian shoelace doorknob scenario) so it won't outpace things going on in patricia's plot and undermine the reveals there. when you add in how the B/C plots tie in and have impacts on the A plots or vice versa, it makes sense that something would end up being sacrificed in the pacing department. it seems kinda nuts that it'd be A1, but at a certain point of fiddling with events/moving stuff around, i can see why it had to be A1 that got this treatment.
i'll add that while it was airing, i didn't mind that and even liked how things felt ""sort of normal"/not that supernatural relative to where it was going to end up for a WHILE so when, say, the elixir is introduced and alfie gets trapped in the cellar and they REALLY start using their effects budget, it feels like a considerable shift in the setting. a mystery story that lets you get used to some sense of normal first before yanking the rug out from under you is the best kind, but striking a balance between "something weird is going on here that needs my urgent attention" and "but it's still not THAT weird" so the reveal is both shocking but entirely appropriate and satisfying is VERY difficult. (it's also a move that improves the rewatch at the expense of the initial watch, which i can't help but have a soft spot for as a certified Pretentious Bitch.) that's what i mean by it being a problem that comes from a good writer -- they're trying something! it might not be working perfectly but they're trying and to me, that's far more interesting than technically "clean" but very unambitious writing! but i digress lol
something neat that scene i ragged on early does do is the presentation of the information, though, and it makes me trust this was a particularly thorny structural issue and not amateurish writing. it seems to us that the takeaway is that they need to look into egyptian mythological sources for further information, and that the rollers likely belonged to the frobisher-smythe family. what ends up actually being relevant, though, is a) the naming of the eye of horus for the scene later where rufus asks patricia to look for them (specifically the locket, as we find out later, but he doesn't give that away, same as the scene not giving away why it used the eye of horus in the railing to clarify ^ the above dubiously useful information) and b) the subversion of the audience's attention. i'm not sure if this was intentional, but there's something magical about the way it primes the audience to be dismissive of nina and fabian's discoveries and investigative ability early on. for one, it makes the scenes where nina makes fun of amber for investigating every nook and cranny extra ironic in a way that i love (yes! giving your prototypical blank slate audience insert main character hints of a personality that ends up commenting on the nature of blank slate characters/how their behavior would actually come off if they were real people later down the line!), it makes the audience more likely to get invested in making connections/speculation independent of the characters solving the mystery (audience engagement is critical in a good mystery!), and by hiding the "most important information" in plain sight, it reinforces the illusion that this is a living, breathing world where everything is interconnected in unexpected ways. sure, it's cheesy and may feel cheap, but through that, it hits something real.
to sum up, i can see why if you're just turning this show on expecting a straightforward supernatural teen drama you wouldn't see this stuff first (especially since that genre is predominately cynical in tone right now and house of anubis is reminiscient at first blush of the type of show that a lot of other shows in the genre are...making up a guy like and parodying (badly)) and feel inclined to call it bad, especially without watching season 2. if you're someone new to the show, hi! i hope i haven't scared you off! if you don't mind spoilers, i did a writeup about a scene in late s2 that's an example of both good acting and EXCELLENT writing, both in dialogue but most importantly on a structural level. while it is a standout phenomenal scene, it's only that good because of the writing around it supporting that level of subtext in the first place, and the bones of that are present even in early s1.
i'm holding myself back from writing about cynical vs. earnest media because that's better saved for another post (specifically the fabled s3 writeup i will do someday i promise), but i cannot overstate how much of an impact that has on this, too. to state that conclusion as concisely as my verbose ass can manage: you need both cynical and earnest media in your media diet, elsewise your taste and critical skills will just Be Bad. too much cynical media, in particular, can trend towards a lack of appreciation for the earnest media it needs as reference material to respond to, and at that point, you're just adulating hatred ("intelligence") over loving, y'know, love. earnest media can suck, but at the very least, it's less insufferable to argue with.
(also, sidebar that's been said a million times, but these are TEENAGERS!! so many teenagers on tv are written like adults who make bad decisions, but there's an inherent corniness to being a teen that IS sorta "cringe," and you can't take that out without ruining the experience. i'm a super risk-averse person, but i'd be willing to bet a considerable amount of money that if you wrote up some early-ish s1 dialogue in script format (incl. action lines, etc.) of a scene with all kids and compared that to a scene of just adults, so stripping out the performances/keeping those from interfering in your interpretation, the dialogue that comes off "cringe" would read like perfectly fine, age appropriate language/cadence. i HEAVILY respect a show that doesn't pretty that up, even at the risk of coming off "amateurish.")
in conclusion, i asked my friend when their opinion of the show shifted from essentially "well i'm having fun watching it with you at least" to "ok wait a minute this is actually good," and they said the last four episodes of s1. while i'd place the "officially Good" marker for myself somewhere around episode 9, maybe a little later, i can see exactly why it'd be far later (and at that point specifically) for someone else, particularly someone that hasn't taken...extensive notes on every single moment of s1 and poured over them like it was my job for a solid couple years.
episode 23 and onward has: jerome and alfie getting more complex material to work with AND get to play off one another (and thus two of the show's best actors get to show us that), the rube-goldberg-machineification of the plotlines is setting in (the scene where mick and mara are playfighting while doing the dishes (as a result of their relationship turmoil up to this point??) and spill water on victor right when jerome chases alfie into the kitchen with the drawings of the ankh pieces?!?!?!??!?! LIKE!!! YOU CAN'T CALL THAT BAD WRITING...); reveals are paying off; stakes are high without spiraling out of control; actors in general are refining what elements of their characters work the best/need highlighting; beyond that the characters have weathered enough conflicts that their choices are cropping up to be consistent and solid characterization with a direction; it's clear that this is a campy endeavor with writing chops to back up the cheese.
the way that manifested in my friend's reaction was "wow, that was a good scene." "wait, that was acted really well. everyone did a good job there." "oh my god, they're not. theyre not doing this. oh my god, they are."
that is the essence of house of anubis, i think. it's not for everyone, but "bad writing?" a bit unfair, if you ask me.

Digimon Tamers - Episode 45
I hesitate to call this the final battle because Digimon's always throwing out surprise bosses. That being said, considering how few episodes are left, this feels like the beginning to the end. They're finally confronting the D-Reaper head-on and they've digivolved to ultimate. The auxiliary folks are joining as well.
Looking back on it, this show has had really good pacing and hasn't really felt long at all. It was less segmented than previous seasons which I think helped it.
Notes:
I thought the kids' speeches in the beginning were kind of clunky. Jian brings up that he was spoiled "as a kid" (you still are a kid buddy) and Ruki talks about her dad randomly. Like...okay...I do get what they were going for, with the overall theme being how friendship has given them strength, but they shouldn't have brought up random stuff that hadn't been established before. Like Jian being spoiled and wanting attention isn't something we ever really saw, so I think he got over that before meeting Ruki and Takato.
Alice being licked by the disembodied head of Dobermon was more creepy than touching. I wish they had at least given him forelegs or something.
Alice walking away from the explosion like an action star was unintentionally funny
Tumblr media
Glad to see the ultimate digivolution sequences again, definitely one of my favorite bits of animation from this series.
I guess the army (I know Japan doesn't really have an army...SDF?) has given up on fighting the D-Reaper lol. I guess it's a bit like shooting at a natural disaster: hopeless.
Takato addresses Dukemon by name which took me off guard because, isn't he a part of Dukemon? (Like in Steven Universe, Ruby or Sapphire wouldn't be like "hey Garnet!") Kinda fuzzy how this digivolution works from a body/soul/mind perspective.
Equally confusing is how the digimon are in their perfect forms (Rapidmon, MegaloGrowmon, and Taomon), yet to digivolve to ultimate they go back to their child forms first. (Probably for ease of animation honestly)
I feel like the D-Reaper felt like more of an immediate threat in the digital world. Like it went from insta-destroying everything it touches to just weakening things. Maybe the ultimate forms are more resistant?
I enjoyed seeing Kenta's mom for the first time. We don't get plus-sized (by anime standards) anime moms too often and I liked her design.
Very glad to see Antiramon again! I guess we haven't really seen them fight much yet, so I hope they get in on the action.
Impmon still bullies Culumon in the exact same way but now it has buddy-buddy undertones lol. Nice to see their relationship improve.
So I guess the D-Reaper used Juri to analyze the human race and deemed us unworthy. This is just your average "AI destroying its creator" plot line now. What exactly DOES D-Reaper find useful? I guess the AI learned nihilism and is just like "EVERYTHING IS MEANINGLESS." Mood.
Someone pointed out that Juri's behavior isn't too different than the dark seed kids from 02, which is a good point. With only 6 episodes left...I don't think Tamers is really that dark compared to the other seasons. It had that one episode that got kinda edgy, but in the grand scheme of things, nothing too brutal. Well, we'll see.

WR⩇NG R⩇⩇M! OO. in my dance room ?!
warnings ⠀ cursing, mentions of ears bleeding (it doesn't happen), grammatical errors may occur (please, point them out if you find any!)
Tumblr media
APRIL 29TH, 2022.
A huff left your lips as you waited for the elevator, a black bag lazily draped over your shoulder and a cup of iced latte in one of your hands. You took some time admiring once again your company's building — HYBE's building.
According to Eunjoo, the leader of your group, VOON, the members’ schedule for the day was finally cleaned up. Not that it made any difference, seeing that it was already past 11pm. The daily dance practice was finished, just like the recordings for the upcoming album. After weeks of hardwork, you started to see your efforts paying off.
Ding!
The elevator's door opened, and you pondered for a second if you really should stay behind on a Friday night when your other groupmates were leaving to your shared dorm. Your exhausted body moved without too much thinking, entering the small space.
As you pressed the button with a bright '8' written on it, you leaned back on the metal wall. Muttering a ‘thanks’ under your breath, you thanked no one in particular, eventually noticing that you were alone in the elevator and that nobody would see your dreadful looks.
At this point, you weren't planning on going back to your dorm. You didn't want to make your chauffeur wait for you. Another grateful remark escaped your lips when you remembered of some ‘spare rooms’ in the edifice where you could spend the night.
Mentally, you planned what you were going to do.
1. Pratice the choreo for the set tracks you were going to perform at Kpop Flex (a soon to come music festival). 2. Work on your rapping, since your producer said there was room for improvement. 3. What was number three again...?
Nevermind. You would remember it sooner or later.
Grabbing your phone, you decided on telling your members that you were sleeping at the building and assuring them that everything was alright. All of them replied with an ‘Okay, stay safe!’ — except for the maknae, Mingyu, who jokingly said that she didn't care.
The elevator stopped again, revealing the eighth floor. Your feet dragged you down the main hallway, shortly stopping for the face recognition. The glass door that divided a hall and another opened automatically as your body limped towards your dance room.
4-2 — DANCE STUDIO. 안무연습실. The room plate displayed those words far away, its artificial, yellowish light shining lowly, without drawing any attention.
The dance room could be easily mistaken by one of the janitor closets that surrounded it. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary outside, except for the plate on the wall indicating the space's purpose. Secluded, the spot was situated by the end of the corridor. Sometimes you wondered why the architect even put a dance studio, which, by the way, was minuscule, in the middle of nowhere.
I mean, there were other studios in the eighth floor, they just weren't as small — or distant from the others — as 4-2 was. But when you found it while exploring the gigantic edifice, it was like love at first sight.
After going back to the hidden place for only three times, you were already attached to it. You didn't have to switch rooms every practice because another group was using it. Your dance jam lives wouldn't be interrupted. Not even your personal dance time when you swayed awkwardly to your playlist would be discontinued. You had found heaven.
Two months in and you told your manager about 4-2. He was happy for your so-called “discover”. He noticed how much you improved your dance skills over the two months, and the explanation you gave him made all the dots connect.
Somehow, your manager got to make the studio yours. He had some chats with his bosses and they agreed on giving you the honor of having your own dance room in the building. They weren't giving away a big, overused place that everyone would fight for, so it was alright for them. Nobody would even realize that 4-2 was yours.
Boredly, you sipped your latte, expecting the considerable amount of sugar in it to give you some energy. However, shock consumed you as the straw touched your teeth.
An abusively loud sound boomed from inside your dance studio, the song's high notes ricocheting within the walls of the hall. Out of reflex, you jumped back, eyes wide and heart shaking. If it wasn't for the thin plastic lid holding the liquid back, you'd be completely soaked in it.
For a second, you stood there motionless and scared. Your bag finally slipped from your shoulder, seeing that it was already falling from your arms because of your jump.
“Fucking hell,” you mumbled angrily, crouching to grab your things, knees almost giving up from the intense practice you had earlier that day. Your shock got bigger with each word you uttered. “Is that ASAP?”
Thinking about who could be there playing STAYC at almost midnight, you prepared yourself to give that person a scolding. Your free hand went up to your ear, trying to ease the piercing pain you felt from the music's volume.
Sora, your group mate, came into your mind. She was an avid STAYC stan. Maybe she was using the spot? No... She already had gone home. Besides, she wouldn't use it if you didn't gave her permission.
Could it be TXT'S leader, Choi Soobin? Another girl group fan who also stayed behind to train at night? No, he wouldn't use such a small training room.
Stomping towards the end of the corridor, you rolled your eyes at the pre-chorus. You loved STAYC, yes, but Sieun's voice on maximum volume made you wish you could rip your earbuds off. If they started bleeding that moment it wouldn't be a surprise.
The sound of your firm steps (you gathered all your energy left to march like that) were cancelled by the noise being emitted by 4-2’s speakers.
“Who the fuck–!” You tried screaming at the crazy person as you arrived at the entrance, the door fully opened. A familiar silhouette appeared in your view through the studio's mirror.
Yang Jungwon, the one and only.
His dark green hoodie moved along his body movements, the color contrasting with his bright red hair. Dark jeans and a pair of beige sneakers (or what was supposed to be white sneakers) finishing his outfit. An expensive suitcase and a handbag were thrown away in a corner — he probably had arrived from a trip.
Walking backwards, your eyes widened again. “Crap...” You groaned, resting your forehead on the grey wall. Something bad really had to happen, didn't it?
“Yang Jungwon...” A hiss left your lips as the stone vibrated with the music that still didn't stop. Your mind replayed the boy's moves over and over, his focused face stuck like glue in your brain.
“...But in my dance room?”

hi guess what i'm still not done yelling about chp 298 and the serve and block, so let's talk about the actual volleyball of it and how it contributes to the impact of the moment and solidifying it as a thing that they earned together
yamaguchi goes up for his second serve in the match, after having just gotten an ace, and this time kai bumps it relatively easily
Tumblr media
and yamaguchi is already thinking about the serve and block, bc for him that's his next goal if he can't get another service ace. he sees it as his job to disrupt the first pass so that the setter can't make as good of a set—and that's what those little flashbacks depict, botched digs from tough serves leading to the setter having trouble getting under the ball/to it in time so the hitter is limited and then gets stuffed
so yamaguchi is disappointed, he think because kai got the ball up and to kenma in a perfect arc, that he didn't do his job well enough
Tumblr media
and while it's true that kenma does get to set off of a good pass, there's more to it than that, and tsukki knew it before the ball even left kai's hands
Tumblr media
tsukki sees it as more than just disrupting the ball's path to the setter, it's also about taking away options of hitters to make tsukki's job easier as a blocker. and we can see in the first panel i posted what tsukki has already seen, that yes kai got the ball up, but also he took a knee, he had to get low so he likely won't be back up in time for an approach, and yamaguchi aimed it between kai and yamamoto so yamamoto also is hunched and kind of stuck behind kai and in a bad position to get going for a run up
Tumblr media
something which, furudate takes a moment to show us again here—kai and yamamoto are nowhere near in position to spike the ball, the rotation has yaku on the court so he's not an offensive option, meaning that it's only kuroo and fukunaga that the blockers need to worry about tracking
Tumblr media
and we get to see tsukki think about all of that on the next page too. i like how kind of quick and staccato these panels come across, you can almost read tsukki's inner dialogue even though we don't see it: "yamamoto and kai are down, not contenders. fukunaga coming for an approach on the right, kuroo coming for a quick right down the middle, kenma already in the air, which of them will he choose?"
furudate is really trying to emphasize to us that yamaguchi's worth as a server isn't just in getting aces, or making the ball wobble perfectly to botch the opposing team's receives—yamaguchi is also getting better at aiming and disrupting the court in other ways. and that in turn compliments the ways we've seen tsukki's skills improve over the series too, this type of reading the court and the players (one aspect of "total defense" as the series calls it) that he's gotten better and better at as the matches go on
Tumblr media
and the ukai reiterates it for us too so we can read it in addition to having just seen it. "a level-headed, disciplined shield," is exactly what you'd call tsukki's style of blocking, it's why he's so consistently effective and scary as a blocker on his own, "and its bes possible partner, one that makes its decisions easy," perfectly sums up yamaguchi here too, his serves have come far enough that he can disrupt the court in multiple different ways and narrow the path for tsukki so his job can be easy.
but what i also think is important here is that neither of them started here, it took a lot of time and practice to reach this point and they both had to work hard in order to be someone that could be of use to the other and pull it off. if yamaguchi hadn't gotten better at serving he wouldn't be helpful to tsukki's blocking decisions, and if tsukki hadn't had both the aptitude for calmly reading the court and following kuroo's advice about having less wussy block form, then he wouldn't be any help to yamaguchi's serves when the other team does get a hand on them.
and because furudate makes sure to let us know that they both earned their way here with their hardwork and dedication, it makes the emotional impact of the moment hit even harder because we know and feel that it didn't just come from nothing
Tumblr media
it takes a strong shield and a sharp spear

Ok, with Kraken coming what's your explanation for it returning considering the whole debacle from your Kraken post?
incredibly good question. for context, at the end of my years-old Kraken post explaining what the Kraken is (a deimatic display, which was harnessed as a turf war special through the use of cool steroids for fun), I explained that it was discontinued because use of the drug that triggered the special made the body more responsive to the natural, emotional triggers for the Kraken over extended use. That would make natural Krakening easier to trigger over time for people who are already used to Krakening very often, even through unnatural means (the drug), and as the Kraken is a self-defensive reaction to extremely dangerous situations normally, that is Very Bad. So, once cases of this happening became more common and more known over time, the drug and Kraken with it was promptly banned from Turf Wars alongside the other current Specials during the Special Weapon Overhaul. And at the end of that post I specifically said it's VERY UNLIKELY that the Kraken will ever return to the battlefield.
Well, here we are! The Kraken has returned! HOORAYYYYY!
back to the topic at hand. WHY?
There's multiple options, honestly. First off, we're in the SPLATLANDS now. Splatsville is the city of chaos and they clearly don't give a shit about some "special weapon overhaul" over there! They're probably not bound by laws of the Inkopolis turf scene. So this is the theory that Splatsville Turfers Simply Don't Care and the Kraken is still objectively REALLY, REALLY COOL and they want to be Krakens! A lot of Splatsville's turfing culture and weapons seems to have been inspired by Inkopolis' early turfing culture, so it wouldn't be surprising that Kraken made it in eventually - whether they know about its cons or not.
So the theory has one pretty obvious flaw, that being that Splatoon 3 also has Turf Wars that take place in Inkopolis maps. Um, in that case yes, actually the Inkopolis Turf Laws actually DO apply. So, we could extend the meaning of the Order vs. Chaos Splatfest and say that since chaos won, the Special Weapon Overhaul might have been seriously revised or just... undone, and the rules loosened overall. It would make sense given that really powerful special weapons like the Triple Inkstrike and Trizooka are ALSO being used on Inkopolis grounds despite those weapons already being banned once before pretty much, but seems like kind of a huge oversight...
There is also the chance that the drug used to trigger this Kraken is a different, improved one - it's called the Kraken ROYALE now (i think) after all, not JUST "Kraken". I have no idea how they would've made an improved drug that just makes involuntary Krakening not happen over time, assuming the drug itself wasn't the problem... the Krakening itself was the problem. Or they were both part of the problem. But the point is, not sure how they'd manage to make a drug that accomplishes the exact same thing without triggering a third thing that directly correlates with repeated Krakening using an outside trigger. But like, there's the chance that they somehow did?
And, you know, when we're talking about capitalism and monetary gain there's always the chance that the people selling the drug in the first place are trying really hard to push the New Version really hoping that everybody forgot what happened last time. It's been a few years.
Of course, the final theory is not a theory, but the brewing fear that now that the Kraken is relevant again, Nintendo will give a canon reasoning as to what the Kraken ACTUALLY is and I'll have to rewrite all my OC lore.

"i'll give you another chance."
part 2 of the compilation "come let's walk for miles." feel free to ask me a quote-themed prompt here on tumblr for more!
comment here on ao3.
"I'm sorry I called you a slut."
"Jesus. Yeah, security!"
Of all the chemistry readings Ginny was subjected to in the film industry, none were as predictable as the one she had today. Golden spun hair, cerulean blue eyes, and a strong jaw, Cormac McLaggen may be on the front page of Hollywood's Hottest Hot Shots year to year, but Ginny considers herself quite confident in her ability to tell the sleazy, spoiled child actor apart from the less sleazy but equally spoiled manchild.
Call it intuition or continuous bad luck, but she only picks up roles that offer these readings for a reason.
"Just name the price, and we can keep this incident on the down low!"
Exhibit A himself, calling out to save face, getting dragged out the door by his own agent.
When Ginny no longer is able to see McLaggan's ridiculously built shoulders in view, she slumps down in her chair and massages her temples.
"Again, I am so sorry about that," her casting director Hermione apologizes, handing her a bottle of water. Ginny flicks open the cap and takes deep gulps, hoping the cool drink will wash the sliminess she feels inside. "His agent warned us that he would play into every stereotype of an entitled actor, but…"
"He's a big name. Big bucks," Ginny mutters in between sips. "You wanted to try your chances, I get it. Just bring in the next guy."
Hermione's sheepish smile turns into a grimace. "Are you sure? This next one's a…"
Ginny raises her eyebrows. "Tax auditor? Zebra?" Hermione snorts. "So long as he's not a dick, I'm okay. I don't care if he's not well-known. Call him in."
Glaring down at her script, she doesn't bother to fix her slouched position, having seen the word lunch printed in black ink earlier that day. Damn, how long has she sat there for? Is today pizza or chicken pesto day? For some reason, she always gets the two confused. Honestly, what she wouldn't give for one of those American oreo milkshakes right about now…maybe she could fit in time for a quick drive-through after all this –
A voice clears its throat.
She starts a bit, ceasing her pen-clicking. Then, she lifts her lashes up from her script. And looks at the next auditionee.
He dresses differently from McLaggen, to say the least. Instead of designer leather jackets and styled, product-filled hair, he wears Champion sweatshirts and dark, messy locks that remind Ginny of raking leaves on a foggy autumn day.
Of fingers teasing scalps and silk threaded sheets.
She shakes her head swiftly.
"Hi."
Ginny straightens, stretching out her hand to shake his. Warm, large. "Hi, er…" She glances down at the call sheet. "Harry Potter. Nice to meet you. Says here you've been a stunt double for several years?"
That would explain the callouses.
"Yeah," Harry shifts on his foot, glancing around the room like he's nervous to be the center of attention. Hmm. Seems in poor taste to be here of all places, but okay.
"What made you want to switch to acting in the first place?" She figures that's a safe enough place to start.
But he only crosses his arms with such obvious discomfort that Ginny fights a cringe, already planning out the words to her polite rejection in her head. He starts speaking, and her wariness only becomes worse. "Acting has been my passion since I was young." Kill me. "From taking on leads in uni theater plays" —do not groan, do not groan—  "stunt doubling in twenty action and horror films, thinking quick on my feet in improv scenes – "
Maybe it's the long day she's had. Maybe it's the sexist twat she had the displeasure of meeting half an hour ago. Maybe it's her craving for oreo milkshakes. Or maybe it's a combination of all three.
But all she knows is that one second she's bored out of her mind, and the next: "If I wanted to hear a list of all your qualifications, mate, I would've reread your CV."
Great. How can she talk badly about spoiled actors when she's behaving like the poster child of one now? Maybe she should call McLaggen and they can start up a support group together. AA for Actors Astray.
Ginny opens her mouth to apologize profusely (and then apologize again after telling him that regardless, he's still not fit for the job) when she sees the man press his lips together.
And hide an amused smile.
"Er," Ginny widens her eyes, thrown off guard. Suddenly, for reasons entirely unknown to her, her intuition whispers for her to give him another chance. "I'll give you another chance." Right on the nose, her intuition. "Just be yourself. Same question.”
A pause more pregnant than a three-humped camel. And then:
"Honestly, I was getting tired risking paralysis falling arse over tits for yet another low-budget film. At least now I'll get paid properly for it."
The laugh that escapes Ginny bubbles out before she can help it, bathing in warmth at Harry's slightly surprised grin in response.
She eyes the witty gleam of his green stare and notes how he hasn't once gushed over her presence since arriving on set. Not much of a celebrity worshipper then. Good.
Just like that, the decision is made before she's conscious of it.
"Right, okay. Sit," Ginny juts her chin to the seat across from her and lifts her script to a comfortable reading position. "Let's see if all that sass is worth something in the end."
He shoots her a grateful but determined smile. Blazing, to match her own. "Wouldn't expect anything less."
She'll take his word for it.
xxx
Turns out, Harry can act his bollocks off. And not just the reading-off-the-script type of acting, though he can do that plenty as well.
They make the tabloids and so do the pics of them walking about the streets, hands swinging between them like a terribly kept secret. When paps ask if they're dating, she simply adds, "And we're fucking too." And when they startle at her audacity, she and Harry break into a giggling, breathless run, white lights flashing from behind like in the movies.
At the premiere, they poke fun at each other's improvised lines ("We should huddle closer a bit…you know, for warmth." "You should have brought a fucking jacket then.") and crack up at shots taken out of context ("That sort of looks like you in the morning." "Shut up, Harry.").
Oh, and there's milkshakes too. Loads of them. Though, he likes the strawberry one, the weirdo.

This is gonna be abit of a mouthful, but I need to get it off my chest now that years have passed and we've (hopefully you have too) matured by now.
I once looked up to you, but that was a very long time ago. The trauma you caused me is irreversible. tbf I used to be a brat and if I could go back in time to backhand my younger self I would, I own up to that. But I was only a teenager, still growing and learning about myself and how to talk to others properly. Turns out I was pretty much autistic, so communication wasn't my strong point at all back then.
But even then, your two-faced behavior of proudly shitting on and bragging about how much money you were ripping off the furry community, the people who actively supported you, loved your work and paid your bills, was appalling. I had every right to call you out on it. Instead of accepting it was wrong, you sent your roommates out like attack dogs to fight your battles, defend your toxic behavior and harass me. Every time I blocked them they would find a different site to attack me on. I struggled to make friends for years after that incident, I felt I couldn't trust anyone because of what you guys did.
Years passed, and I genuinely hoped you had changed for the better, only to see a callout post during pride of all times, about your grossly acephobic attitude. I had friends who were blocked by you and didn't understand why. You need to understand your damaging actions have severe affects on real people, and when you make public apologies, the people who comment saying they forgive you don't count if they weren't the ones hurt by you. They don't speak for those affected.
I'm not looking for an apology, even if given one I probably wouldn't accept it after all the damage you've done to me. I have zero interest in you being in my life again. I just wanted to give you this perspective to get it off my chest and for you to mull on, I want you to use it to improve yourself as a person moving forward. See the wrong in your actions, how badly it affects others, and make the choice to make things right.
But that's up to you now.
Hey, I know who this is an I want you to know that I think about you often.
Read more below
Sometimes your stuff shows up on my feed or someone shares something with me that youve made because we have common interests and I think to myself Im glad theyre doing well and I hope youre surrounded by people who support you. I dont say this as a way to like Save face because this is a public anon. I would say this to you in private if I could. I was a very nasty person years and years ago and no apology will take back the pain Ive caused others from that. Especially not you. But I am sorry. I wish things could have been different. I do. For the acephobia. Yes. I was acephobic and horrible about it. I hurt a lot of people from that and cant ever take that back but know that Ive learned a lot about how to treat others and unpack the internalized hatred towards my own ace'ness and how others present themselves. I also want to say I never sent my roommates on you. That was a choice they did on their own without my knowledge. I never ever want someone to go after anyone on my behalf and while it is likely hard to believe that those who have known me these past 5-6 years can vouch that as true. I have on multiple occasions asked my friends to leave people alone I end up disagreeing with. I never name drop people I dont get along with. I dont even tell people besides my very very private close friends about what happened between me and you and that might be about 3 or 4 people at most. As for blocking? I block very liberally LOL and its almost never personal. I block people for the smallest things just to curate my social media experience. If you ever wanted to reconnect and try again Im here. And I have no hatred in my heart. I have held myself accountable all these years for things I should have done better. Handled softer. In the end Truly. Im glad youve made a beautiful career out of something you love and no matter what happens between us I hope you continue to thrive. With all my heart.

Cartoon characters you think had the biggest fall off in terms of writing?
Well, can think of a few examples
Vlad Masters from Danny Phantom
This one is quite obvious: He was a pretty interesting villain with unique motivations in the first two seasons and had a specific relationship with Danny that moved his character arc forward. He was a really good foil for Danny in the way their morals clashed.
Then Season 3 comes and sends most of that characterization to the trash, leaving a superficial version of him. He acts more as a generic villain, his motivations seem to change every episode he shows up. He is introduced as main antagonist in the season and barely does anything, with D-Stabilized being the closest you get to that, etc.
I would include Valerie Gray in the spot as well, but honestly i feel like she was more mistreated than her writing ¨fell off¨. She still acts like her usual self in D-Stabilized and it is probably her best episode along with Flirting With Disaster.
2- Marco Diaz from Star vs The Forces of Evil
Marco is a character that was having some pretty solid development in the first two seasons. He even forgave and befriended Star ex-boyfriend who only saw him as a rival. He learned to overcome his own insecurities and date a girl he really liked since he was like 10.
...And around Season 3 he like... started to flirt or date with half of the teenager girl cast. He almost started to gain a harem for all the girls that were into him. Not to mention that he kissed Star when she was dating Tom... after he spent a lot of time trying to be in good terms with him and telling him that he wasn't a thing with Star. That's not to say Star didn't mess it up big but at least she was improving in other areas like helping the monsters.
The writers took a character that was overall likable and turned him into harem dude. It was like they didn't know what to do with him after Season 2 and just matched him with every girl they could think off.
3-Mordecai from Regular Show
This case is well known and self explanatory. He was in general a good character in the first seasons. Then he got tangled in all this romance between Margaret and CJ, he messed it up so badly that CJ never spoke to him again and she didn't appear in the series later on.
The irony is that while Mordecai was getting worse, Rigby was improving in some ways by taking classes and finally graduating from school. He grows into someone more mature and responsible.
And this drama romance in the end didn't seem to have importance later on since Mordecai didn't end up with Margaret, instead he ends up with a bat girl he meets in the time skip montage.
4-Morty Smith from Rick and Morty
This is a bit weird because it isn't that his character got ruined but it feels like in some ways he has regressed to the way he was on Season 1 and Season 2.
I feel like the main issues that many have pointed out is that Rick is allowed to get better, while Morty can't. He can't process his own trauma and the way he is treated by his own family (yes, it isn't only Rick the problem). So he is stuck going back and forth with his evolution as character.
My theory is that, because the show has this thing of trying to keep the status quo, changing Morty too much would mean that the writers have to change his dynamic with Rick and... that would mean the show changing its status quo as well.
5-Charmcaster from the original Ben 10 series
I don't recall that much about her but i do remember she was someone who practiced dark magic and was mistreated by her uncle in the original show. Then in the series that followed she became someone a lot worse?? Like she started killing a lot of people for some reason. It was super weird.
6- Nine from Sonic Prime
I wouldn't call it character assassination. However, he feels like he becomes a very different character from who he was in Season 1 and Season 2.
In Season 1 and 2 he was someone who was looking out for himself. He didn't want to cause harm on purpose and just wished to live in a place he could be safe. He is just a kid who hasn't had the best life and wants someone that can be his friend.
Then in Season 3 he starts putting people in danger intentionally? He actually attacks people and threatens others. There isn't exactly a proper build up to this character change. It just happens.
It doesn't help that he doesn't have that many moments he seems to regret his actions. He just keeps going and going. So when his heel turn comes it feels... cheap, again because there wasn't enough build up to that.
I would include Chloe from Miraculous Ladybug but i haven't watched that series so..
These are the ones that come to my mind at the moment. Maybe there are others that i'm not able to recall at the moment.

This ended up being very long, so I'll put it up in a post. It is under construction, I want to add some links with clearer guides. But I'm very bad at using the app, I have to see it later on the PC XD.
D&D has many classes and in general none are bad, just more difficult to use if one is not as experienced. In BG3 you are also not alone for a long time and your classmates have classes that complement well the one you choose. It is also possible to combine two classes on the same character.
I think the best classes are Bard, Cleric, Paladin, or Sorcerer. These classes offer great healing abilities, solid armor, and a wide variety of magic and spells for combat and exploration.
No class is good for everything, each has its advantage, but the best classes in BG3 often overlap. Having the best build for each class, including Companions, will also go a long way to improving their effectiveness.
The Bard is Support, I guess the best class is College of Valor.
In terms of support classes, you can't go wrong with a Bard. It has many abilities and allows you to succeed on dialogue checks often. Additionally, the class has a unique action called Bardic Inspiration, which grants a bonus to an ally's attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws. At level 4, all loadouts are refreshed by short rests, ensuring you have a nifty upgrade at the right time.
The Bard thrives on allies, so I then attach equipment combinations. They are strong in combat and good at social interactions. And I think he would go well alongside Astarion.
The Cleric is support and healer. The best subclass is Light. You've got everything you need, from restoration and radiant damage to improvements to your ability checks.
Likewise, clerics can use medium armor and shields, allowing them to withstand a few hits. But with Shadowheart on the team it would be enough.
The Paladin is Melee DPS, tank and healer. The best subclass is Oath of the Ancients.
Compared to Clerics, Paladins can wear heavy armor, making them even more tanky. The best are the Oath spells, such as the Oath of the Ancients and the Healing Radiance spell. Heals your entire team upon being cast, and once again at the start of a round, which is great for tough encounters.
The Sorcerer is Caster DPS with Metamagic utility the best subclass is Draconic Bloodline.
It is my favorite class but it is more complicated, I wouldn't recommend it so much. By using Sorcery Points, you can modify the effectiveness of spells and tricks. In general, sorcerers have access to many of BG3's best spells in combat.
It depends on each person's taste and comfort when playing, it is very good to try different ones. You can also change the class. I will add the links later, especially the group configuration link so that it is complementary. And another guide for what to do when you're just starting out. I hope it helps you! (^-^)/

@good-beans listen i cant respond to asks properly because um. There is shoujo ai instead of a brain in there . Just have some of my fuuta thoughts okie <3 these also do not make sense i think, but hopefully you can understand what im trying to say
He didn't actively seek out the first two people he called out, but he did encounter them irl. The middle schooler though? I have no fucking idea.
Also, he has some sort of connection (is that the word?) to the first two. First guy goes to the same arcade that Fuuta does, second guy is probably a staff from Fuuta's University. Middle schooler? Once again, i have no fucking idea. Who the fuck is she even. What did she even do.
I was wondering if Fuuta knew this girl. Not as in personally, but like, one of those faces in the street, one of those kids going back home from school while you're going out.
Maybe she did do something fucked up. Did he see her bullying someone? Maybe it was something like, she was being rude to a restaurant worker or being snobbish? What can middle-schoolers do that's all that bad? (That's a genuine question, like I really wonder what did she do that made Fuuta doxx her.)
Also, one more thing is just a thing (theory-ish???) I wondered a bit about while giffing this one scene in Bring It On.
For the college staff guy, he clicked the picture of him harassing the girl, right? Showing that he was definitely present in the scene and not hearing this from a different source.
You know what this also means? He let everyone online know 'Yes, I was there and saw it happen and instead of walking in or something, I decided to call him out online.'
Now, I don't know about Japan, but in my country Universities are… fucked up. Cases of Sexual Harrassment and the like aren't exactly rare, and the authorities doing practically nothing about it certainly doesn't help.
If that's the case in Japan too, then maybe going to the authorities would just result in Fuuta just being told to shut up and not tell anyone about it, and the staff member would probably just be let off with a warning.
Maybe Fuuta realised that, and decided to take the matter online. Or maybe the validation he got from talking about the arcade guy made him want some more attention. Maybe a bit of both.
But, I highly doubt there wouldn't be some people like 'Oh you can only do this online and not face to face coward blah blah blah'. And this is Fuuta alright? Kajiyama Fuuta. He decides 'Fuck you, I can do this shit offline too'
He, most likely, both drunk on the validation and attention he got online for calling out a creep, and in the anger of being told he's a coward, decided to seek out someone. Anyone who the online people would love to tear apart.
Maybe seeing this girl doing something stupid was a complete coincidence and he followed (? Maybe) her to her place and publicised it, with a call out on whatever she did.
Maybe he did see her walking around frequently, and doing something screwed up, and knew where her house was, and decided to show those people online that he can be a hero of justice online and offline.
Maybe he was so caught up in the attention he didn't actually realise if she actually crossed the line between 'its fine, can improve' to 'so fucked up, needs to taken to the guillotine immediately'. Maybe he didn't realise that he was the one crossing the line. (Sorry, I wanted to be a little dramatic)
Finally, I have no idea how to end this. What was I even saying to begin with. Oh yeah. Fuuta. He's just this twitter user who got drunk on attention and he's genuinely remorseful about what he did. I want to hug him.

Compassion Watch
Bleach Fanfic: Kenpachi Zaraki, Yachiru Unohana, Isane Kotetsu (CW: Brushes on suicide)
Zaraki patiently paced the large room of his personal residence like a lion testing the boundaries of his cage. The whole thing with Ukitake's funeral was over and yet somehow Kyouraku felt it appropriate to keep Kenpachi on house arrest while everyone else was out having fun, cleaning up weird hollows. Or demons. Whatever. Even Ichigo was out there somewhere and Kenpachi wondered if he had improved in ten years.
He wasn't alone here though, the only other free captain apart from himself was seated on a chair, looking like she would pass out if he even looked at her funny. Isane was bravely keeping her chin up, after all, she was sitting in the unkempt living space of the 11th Division captain.
"I'm not going to bite your head off, Kotetsu, so chill." He said, finally giving up and slumping onto the tamati mat, "Tell me again why the hell I'm being kept here? I ain't done nothing wrong this time."
"Captain Kyouraku has said that with the latest incident with the H-Hell gates opening up, he thought that you would take the news hard." She explained, gripping the fabric of her hakama briefly, "So I'm here to keep an eye on you."
This befuddled Kenpachi, "The news? What, we captains don't get to reincarnate back into humans and just…stay in Hell?" When Isane nodded, Kenpachi laughed, "I think that's great! You, me, we get to go down to Hell and duke it out for all eternity; we'll even see our old friends again. Haha, even get to see some of the fuckers I put down there myself…" he mused, "I guess they're all down there waiting for us."
"Y-Yes." Isane looked down, though her agreement was pointed. Kenpachi tilted his head, studying her.
"Ah." A light flicked on in his head, "That's why you're here. You guys don't want me to get a head start on things." He scratched his head.
Isane sighed, "Yes." She admitted, "Actually, it was my suggestion, not the Head Captain."
Kenpachi glowered; his control over his riatsu was significantly improved over the last decade, but it still flooded the room with a dull ache, "I don't see how that's any of your damn business."
"I'm the captain of the Fourth Division and your well-being is my damn business!" She snapped, then covered her mouth like she was trying to corral the words back into her mouth. Kenpachi stopped staring and started to laugh, loudly at first until it tapered off.
"Yeah, okay, I see why Unohana kept you around as long as she did, there's some spice there." He lay across on one side facing her, "What makes you think I'd be so eager to off myself to go fight demons?"
Isane did what Isane did best; get flustered, "B-because you loved Captain Unohana."
"Pot calling the kettle black."
"And she's down there as some sort of lord of hell." She went redder, if that was possible.
"Don't make it so tempting; look, Kotetsu, this whole living business is its own battle. I have fought life for over a millenia and it's a tough bitch to fight, far more fun than taking the express route to the underworld. I'll fight life for a myriad until the bitch finally does me in. And then, only then, will I go down to Hell worthy enough to fight Yachiru."
Isane was quiet, as if the knot in her throat had tightened her vocal chords shut.
"Kotetsu." A pause and again, "*Isane*." Kenpachi stressed.
"I see now." Isane finally warbled, "I see now what she saw in you." There was an unquenchable fire in his face when he spoke of Unohana, and if he had faced Isane when he spoke, Isane wouldn't be sure if she wouldn't have also been caught up in that fire.
"You got a crush on me now?" He teased which made Isane return back to reality.
"No!" She then grimaced, "I mean, uh…it's just…I just wished things turned out differently. That you and Unohana-taicho were both here."
"Same." He admitted solemnly, then fixed a sharp eye on her, "So, should I be watching you instead?"
"N-no." Isane shook her silver head, surprised and, for some reason, touched.
"Thank fuck for that, this place is messy enough as it is, don't need a corpse here to clean up too," He rolled onto his back. He sighed. It was bittersweet, "I'll play by this curfew for now, Kotetsu, but you don't have to worry about me."
"No offense, but it is my damned business to worry." Isane smiled weakly.
"Atta girl." Kenpachi grinned back.
