Ah right sorry. Art block's been a bit of a bitch lately. I also got the flu smackdab on my dayoff so I couldn't draw at all -_- I ended up writing a lil bit for the second chapter of the neighbors AU I started a while back. Chapter 1 was relatively short because it was just an intro but I think following chapters will be as long as the ones in Birds of a Feather(5k words or so). Lemme show you guys a lil bit of the draft as a treat

I actually look forward to writing Tyler(he's supposed to have a big role in Birds of a Feather too). His presence is a really convenient opportunity to write petty/possessive Enid, which is a super fun thing to see in certain doses.

Hi I understand if you don't reply, but I was wondering if you have any advice to beginners who want to start making their ocs a reality? (Like in the sense of having Charecters that have been in your thoughts for a while, but it's hard to encapsulate them into physical form?) As I have some that id like to make either into a game or comic but I'm a little stuck..

Hullo! Ah, (physically) designing characters, how fun ❤️ - there is part of a reason why I only have a handful of them lol XD; ANYWAY here are three things that help me, so hopefully they can help you as well :)

(I'll use Demon!Rire as an example as unless you are an old guard of mine, he will probably be the most recognisable of my characs.)

❓What do you know about them?

First of all since you already have your character in mind, congratulations you are most of the way there already! It's helpful to know the general vibe of them. And I don't mean the super detailed things that may arise from like..."Get to know your OC" quizzes - we are more looking for the core feeling of a character here. If you dumped this character into different AUs what things are going to stay the same/similar? Some things you should consider are:

What is their personality like? Why do they do the things they do?

Do I already have any physical traits for them in mind? Hair/eye/skin colour? Body type? Age? Name??

📝 Write a simple paragraph or some dot points about your character with these things in mind.

---EXAMPLE---

Sophisticated and charming, Rire outputs an aura of power and elegance. His pleasing physical appearance and gentlemanly demeanour usually enchants or commands people. Realistically, he is extremely manipulative and sadistic, and finds entertainment in the reactions of others.

---/EXAMPLE---

🤔 Make informed choices

Ok cool, you know something about your charac! Now build upon what you know to make them real - it is important here to try and match your design choices with the characterisation and "why"s of the character, and less with what you personally think will be cool/cute/whatever. What I mean by this is just pretend they are a person you are describing to a forensic sketch artist - you are giving "facts" as to what you think they look like not making stuff up (eg you would NOT be like "oh yeh she was totally a punk rocker however i'm going to say she wore a long flowing gown cos I think she'd look prettier in it?"*)

*Note that designing a character with opposites in mind can work out if you can at least answer the cursory "why" of it being a part of the character design. For eg maybe the punk rocker is secretly the alter ego of a socialite - flowing gowns and high fashion by day, grunge by night. Like Batman.

📝 Feel free to use dress up doll games and image searches for particular types of clothes/hairstyles/etc if you need inspiration. Thumbnail a bunch of different designs and see what works.

---EXAMPLE---

In my prev example paragraph I highlighted a few things in red. Here I'll break down how they can help craft a physical appearance:

Sophisticated and charming / elegance - to me, these combined make me think of ballrooms and black tie functions and nice suits. A well tailored outfit and someone who knows how to wear them.

Gentlemanly demeanour (well to some degree lol) - since I already know he's hundreds of years old (973 to be exact) I decided that an aristocratic Victorian-esque aesthetic would suit him. Somewhere in between a modern look and something with a bit more fantasy steampunk flair. He smiles quite genially until he's doing it with all his teeth.

Aura of power - he's got to be a bit of an imposing character so he's quite tall (or at least taller than all of my other characs) and carries himself confidently. Hooray for the ability to loom. Dark colours for this character, to cut an impressive figure.

Pleasing physical appearance - kinda stereotypical type of good looks that aesthetically most people would be like "yeh he's pretty". Athletic build - muscular but not bulky, broad shoulders, tapered waist etc etc.

Extremely manipulative - first of all, he looks rather human, for a demon - his entire species is designed very particularly like that. Then there's the sunglasses. The "why" [does he wear them] is they function to hide his eyes (one of the main parts of him that give away his demon-ness), but also as a bit of a red flag to the audience that something isn't quite right with him. I mean, look past his charm and he wears them all the time. The black and yellow colour scheme also ties in as warning colours ⚠️

Put them all together and this was one of my first sketches of Demon!Rire.

*Note that I already more or less knew how he looked other than his outfit; you will probably have a lot more sketch duds as you figure out what your character looks like.

---/EXAMPLE---

🔐 Don't lock yourself in

Despite the fact I've just said "pretend your character is a person", remember you're still their creator so obviously you have final say over them. Sometimes you'll find that they grow and change from what you initially thought of them (or you just evolve in how you draw them). Don't be afraid to make the tweaks and changes that enhance these - whether they be physical or core characteristics - and you'll get closer to the true character you always had in mind.

---EXAMPLE--

I now draw Rire with a more pronounced V-shape, longer, wavier hair, and somehow he ended up with way more pronounced eyelashes than I usually draw on my male characs. Which works out quite well considering how I tend to draw his eyes. Anyway the point of this is that these things developed over time as I kept drawing him.

Yeah, both canon Jevil and Spamton would be pretty dangerous to have around XDD But out of the two I think original Spamton would be interesting.. 👀

Not really for the personality, because my Spamton's personality is actually a bit similar.. but more for the visual aspect. I headcannon that canon Spamton's body shrunk when he fell into an acid pool. My Spamton fell into an acid pool as well, but it didn't shrink him. It destroyed the structure of his body and elongated him. Making him much taller and extremely deformed..

Imagine the two of them standing side by side. Original Spam would be up to my Spams knee! <XD

As for what kind of monsters they'd face,, I'm actually unsure- I haven't played either game and I don't know any of the lore or characters.. so I'm not sure what kinds of dangers the real cookie run pirates face.. :( But what I DO know is that Blue Beauty is their main form of protection.

She's not exactly threatening to a lot of creatures I'd imagine.. She is just a Mer-whale. No teeth or stingers to make her more intimidating.. But what she is, is huge. And incredibly strong. She's a real power house and uses tools and weapons the crew taught her how to use to defend herself. And I imagine with her thick blubber, it takes a really deep wound to actually hurt her. So she doesn't fear getting a couple scratches here and there.

When it comes to the other cookies, most everyone stands up and fights. Only a select few retreat to the lower decks to protect their goods or hide. Those likely being Ellie, she's too old for this crap- and Coco and Red, though don't be fooled! Coco can fight! She's just retreating with Red in order to protect him. Everyone else though is up there duking it out with who ever dares cross their ship! ⚔⚔

Kazunari: We talked about how Henry was actually a prince, and how Sky went off on an adventure to find the golden triangle!

Tenma: We totally just did whatever we wanted.

Kumon: Awesome! That sounds super fun!

Muku: Kazu-kun came up with a story where Paul joins the Sky Pirates.

Misumi: Yeah, that’s right!

Tenma: But we’re doing a spin-off this time, not a sequel, right? We can talk about that later.

Kumon: Aw~! Way to keep me in suspense, Tenma-san~!

Muku: I think an exchange between Paul and the Sky Pirates is a must though.

Misumi: It’d be fun if all the Sky Pirates and Paul could go wild and make lots of noise together!

Tenma: Even though it’s Paul’s spin-off, I’d like it if we could include some of Summer troupe’s typical comedy scenes.

Yuki: Even if they don’t become friends, we could show something like the pirates and navy joining forces.

Kumon: I wanna see Paul’s cool side!

Kazunari: I see, I see. Join forces… that’s true… I’ve got an image of what I wanna do after talking with you guys! Thanks!

Muku: I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Real Oddity's 2023 Art

Hello hello, gay people in my computer, it's that time again! Time to look at my art over this year! Feel free to look at 12 pieces that I did throughout the year. Enjoy :D!!

January- Fluffybird hyperfixation was in FULL SWING, WOW! I was in a really good groove early in the year, and was getting a lot of nice work done, including these idiots! I've changed how I draw these boys, but I still really like the shading for the most part! Generally holds up well. The background is pretty cool, too! I drew it myself :]

February- Luz Noceda my beloved! The Owl House was my favorite show for a while and still means a lot to me, so I felt like drawing Luz! Overall not very happy with this piece, like the shading, and also the nose, but I love the tears and eyes :D! Also hey those weird funky angular hands I used to draw, what ever happened to those-

March- BALDI!!!!! I was such an indie horror kid, man, so when I found out I had like. 12 hours to get a drawing done for Baldi's anniversary, I fucking jumped at the chance. I'm proud of that fact, but yeesh that shading is a little gross color wise. Also I could not draw lips, ears, or noses. I still can't, but I'm better at it!

April- oh god not them- So I was into Homestuck for a bit lol. I haven't finished it, and don't know if I will, but that's beside the point! Honestly this piece still holds up! For a colored sketch, I still like it a lot, especially Whimsy's hands. Dieonn's chin though... god you can tell I'm ass at perspective-

May- Oh my goodness, it's Wally Darling! He's just the most~ This was a practice in perspective, which as mentioned before I'm not great at!. I think it came out well, and while the shading isn't realistic for a felt body, I still like it :]

June- Oh my goodness he's multiplying!!! Run, run! This was me still trying to wiggle into the Welcome Home fandom (and failing lol) This was also a practice in both just drawing Wally, and composition! I didn't do great, but hey, it was good practice.

July- Oh my gosh it's him... the birthday boy- So the Daycare Attendant stole my heart a few years back when I was really ill and recovering from some trauma, so I of course had to make something for Eclipse! I wanted to test painting, and honestly? I like it a lot, at least dirt wise. He looks so grimy, I love it, ah!! Still needs more work on the lighting, though.

August- God dammit he came back again >:[ I was getting excited for all the new fnaf stuff, so I decided to draw Springtrap, the animatronic that scarred me so much as a kid. I'm actually still pretty happy with the general lighting. Like, there are a few things I have notes on, but overall I still like it :] Also the wires were fun, hehe

September- Mr. Darling is back again! I decided to try my hand at digital painting again and!!! I am still really pleased with the results. Pretty man!

October- Oh god its The Horse Show- For Cringetober, I drew a rarepair of Rarity and Sassy Saddles from MLP:FIM. I'm still super super happy with the horse anatomy, they're so cute! This was also a test in cell shading.

November- Circus time! I thought the pairing of Jax and Kaufmo was kinda funny, so I drew them. This was another test in composition and such, and general interactions. I still think it's alright :]

December- JANUARY EVERLY MY BELOVED SON!!! God it's been a hot minute sense I've done any illustrations with Jan. This was me just dicking around tbh, but hey! The results are fun! I love my son <3

2023 was so much better than 2022 in many ways. I'm looking forward to an even better 2024, and I hope you'll join me!

Tbh I haven't really decided... I am a super indecisive person, and the problem is I just don't have so much free time and what freetime I have i spend drawing, so part of me is like 'i could romance someone different on my next run' but also that means i have to finish the game and i'm still in act 1 lolololol

I plan on circling through all of them (I hope i can) Even if I end up romancing someone in bg3, i may end up just drawing her with everyone OR making her a lil oc person to be with so i can have MULTIPLE things i like... but even then i can't decide.... AH i hate being indecisive. I think my problem is i don't know what dynamic I like best for her.... and i haven't played the game much so I may get more decisive once i learn more.... not that i haven't be spoiled etc just being on the internet. WE WILL SEE ANON, WE WILL SEE

Well, it's that time again

*picks up th Wheel of Fandoms, spins it.... lands on One Piece.*

Ah. Well then

The Chain gets teleported to the world of One Piece and immediately meets the Straw Hats. What shenanigans happen?

"Time is a spice?" Gen asks skeptically. Sanji, who can somehow hear that Gen is misspelling thyme, is not encouraged.

Shadow immediately dumps any and all translating duties on Chopper for the foreseeable future. Never mind that the odds of translation duty being needed are slim to none, he's not doing it again if the reindeer kid can fill in.

Sketch and Steam meet Franky. They are in awe. Franky, meanwhile, is absolutely deadset on figuring out how to manufacture his own version of the Spirit Train summon, because that would be so SUPER!

Wind and Nami have either hit it off terrifyingly well, or they've taken offense with each others' weather control methods. Nobody's entirely sure which one it is, and at this point nobody is brave enough to venture into the condensed hurricane off the port side to ask.

Zoro somehow singles out Oni, despite Oni being a literal mask on Mask's belt, and requests a spar. He hasn't gotten a reply yet. This has not stopped him from continuing to make requests.

Mask and Ocarina, meanwhile, are hanging out with Brook and improvising musical riffs with each other. It's a fun time.

Vio is in love with Robin's library. RGB are less enamored, but aren't willing to risk Robin's wrath by being their usual level of disruptive.

Lore is on the exact same brain wavelength as Luffy, which surprises nobody, really. The only difference is that Lore's got a better vocabulary for explaining himself.

Dusk has somehow gotten into a story trade with Usopp, which started as him explaining their adventures and then spiraled into him having to clarify that, no, he's not exaggerating anything, he really does turn into a wolf sometimes. No, he's not a Zoan, is that even a word? Usopp has taken this as a challenge, somehow, and is trying to invent a story that's weirder than any of the Chain's experiences. He's getting there.

Speck and the Four are with Jinbei. Because he seems like the only truly calm influence on the ship, right now.

Realm is, of course, lost, but then Zoro finds him? Somehow??? And then Sanji finds Zoro and everyone else follows Sanji and the whole thing ends up taking about forty minutes. Which is about ten hours and twenty minutes shorter than what usually happens. The Chain is in awe, and also a great deal of confusion.

Zoro shrugs and gets back to propositioning Oni's mask for a sparring match.

5 Random Things

Ah yes a very clear title for you hehe. Another not-entirely-tes tag game, which, since I've been relatively deep in the hyperfocus I thought I'd surface and do a couple of these before diving back in lol.

I was tagged by @dirty-bosmer to share 5 random things I enjoy! (Their post is here!)

Chicory Coffee which baffles a few people in my household, and I enjoy that too. I've been calling it canis root tea for funsies because I feel like that's basically the tamrielic equivalent. There's really nothing else like it, I don't know how to explain why I love it so much. But I have that as frequently as regular coffee despite less caffeine -- I have the kind that's mixed with regular coffee. Otherwise it'd be caffeine free lol

The Legend of Zelda which is my favorite game series of all time, followed close by Elder Scrolls, of course. The reason is because I've been playing these games since the days of the NES lol though as a small child I had absolutely no idea how to puzzle through that first game. It still brings me joy though. Tears of the Kingdom is very fun, but I think my favorite remains Breath of the Wild.

Mechanical Keyboards. Even inexpensive ones. They are extremely fun to pull apart and repair or redesign, plus I love the noise feedback. I do less typos on these things, plus they're pretty. What's not to like, honestly? A very writerly/gamerly thing of me to say.

Dungeons & Dragons. Oh look another game on the list, hehe. This one sort of combines everything I love about video games with everything I love about storytelling. I've been a DM before and seriously enjoy the world-building aspect and the absolute chaotic nonsense that players can create. I might enjoy being a pc more for causing said shenanigans :> Also, dnd dice. Shiny 🤩

Sketching. I don't share my art on my blog because I usually draw Pokemon if I'm being honest LOL but the act of just sketching for the sake of sketching or learning more about drawing is super soothing to me. No pressure to share them, no pressure to get them right. I just draw because I can. Though sometimes I will write apologies in the margin if a sketch turns out really fucked up. :> But even then, it's all part of the process.

Oh, that’s fun. I was tagged by @katnissmellarkkk and @jhsgf82 and I must say GIRLS I’m shocked of your lists of wips lol. You are so productive! I wish you endless inspiration! ❤️

Ah, the rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DnD campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!

Ok, first of all, I don’t have many wips because I’m that kind of person who should start and finish something soon or it will be abandoned forever lol. So I try to finish every illustration or delete it if I can’t finish it immediately. Unfinished illustrations make me nervous. But I still have some! I will list only ones that I actually have started drawing and have at least a rough sketch of it.

Hey, found the circus!

Astute observers may note that there is a GHOUL hanging out by the front gate. A nearby civilian and his son are discussing it; the dad claims it's a man in a costume, the kid points out that it is drooling.

A nearby conversation is happening between a Flaming Fist and someone who appears to possibly be the circus owner; they're discussing the fact that the owner apparently employs redcaps in the circus and that some of them are on the loose. (Most, the owner asserts, are "perfectly harmless," but the escaped ones had been caged temporarily for attacking a kid.)

Did I mention before that this circus is called The Circus of the Last Days? Everything about this is sketch af.

Another bit of ambient dialogue states that Dribbles the Clown, who seems to be pretty well-known, always travels with a group of animal friends. So that's something to look forward to anyway.

Talking to the ghoul, we learn that it is apparently security, since the "Steel Watch" can't be bothered to patrol out here in the sticks.

We approach as it is being very rude to a random townsperson. "*SNIFF* STINKS OF CHEESE! *SNIFF* BETWEEN HIS PIGGY TOES."

Lovely. The townsperson was pretty displeased about being spoken to like this but stepped back to let us also get sniffed so's we can all go in.

"Hello, hello, and welcome to the Circus of the Last Days! The finest extraplanar circus there is!"

Karlach, hearing this, immediately gasps and gets super excited:

"Ah! A circus! Can we go?!"

Karlach continues to be the cutest thing in the world. And Hector is a sucker for anything that gets her excited, so even if they weren't going to go in before, they definitely are now.

Questions first, though. "I've never heard of an extraplanar circus."

"We travel from plane to plane, thrilling all blessed to see us! From tempestuous djinni to belligerent redcaps - you'll find them all here! But enough of this - the circus is a place of joy and distraction! So come inside and forget your worries."

Privately Hector suspects there is not a circus big enough to make him forget all his worries, and also he kind of wanted to ask about the ghoul. But sure.

"All right. I'd like to enter the circus."

"Not a problem, dear patron!" the barker says cheerfully. "Benji just has to check if you're a vicious murderer. Benji!"

The ghoul comes over and gives Hector a deep sniff.

"Huh," it grunts, then sniffs, and sniffs again. Then it squeals harshly, "BRAIN JUICE SMELLS LIKE PISS AND IRON. NO. LIKE."

The barker blinks, then laughs nervously. "That's a first. Usually I'd allow you in, but in these times I can take no chances. Move along; no circus for you."

Hector winces. Of course. It can smell the tadpole. He's not sure he blames it for its skepticism either, under the circumstances. He isn't too fussed about the circus himself, but it's been a long day and he really doesn't want to see that sad look that Karlach gets in her eyes when she's disappointed.

So he puts on his most placid, unthreatening smile and nods understandingly at the barker. [PERSUASION] "I'm not a threat to you or anyone else in the circus," he says gravely. "I swear it."

The barker sighs good-naturedly. "Oh, damned if I'm not a sucker for big eyes and a heartfelt plea," he says. "Very well. Welcome to the Circus of the Last Days! Have fun, and be sure to catch the star of our show, Dribbles the Clown!"

The gate swings open and he steps aside to let them pass.

"Well," Hector says dryly as they walk into the circus area. "That was terrible security."

"Who cares?!" Karlach says brightly. "We get to go to the circus! I want to see that clown he was talking about."

Shadowheart tries, and fails, to mask a slight smile; Hector gets the impression that, secretly, she might be almost as excited about this as Karlach is. Jaheira, though, is looking quite serious.

"Keep your wits about you," she mutters. "I would not spoil your fun but... the last place of this kind that I saw turned out to be not what it seemed. Do not take your guard down."

Playing ANE is no joy- ep 10 p3

Gardienne goes to check how it’s going with Mathieu’s lessons. SPOILER: he is stressed out, and Gardienne is surprised abt it. She mentions to herself that he never had problems with crowds, mentions also how he usually gives autographs when surrounded by faeries: 

And srsly, Beemoov, why? You created that new character, a HUMAN to replace him with 2 already liked LIs, a dragon and an elf. The least you could have done was to make him interesting and easy to like. Making him a wanna-be cassanova when we have characters that are doing it way better (Nevra and TO Nevra) looks a bit pathetic. Shallow, two-faced, coward, a human... what are his strength? Oooh, I can totes see many ways you could work with such character to make this route a true gem, but sadly, you didn’t pick any. 

Gardienne is shocked that some faeries listen to Earth lessons as volunteers. Yea, wanting to learn about whole new, alien world is really shocking.

So it is canon that Gardienne is not interested in world and unable to understand plp who wants to learn. It’s a ... choice. For sure. A dumb one, but a choice. 

We talk tih koori for a while, and she is fascinated about the Earth. Gardienne gives us gems like “is my world really that different from Eldarya?” (jk, she doesn’t say “my world”). “Why are you attending the classes?”. 

And I was asking why she never tried to get to know her LI. 

Keep on lying to yourself you dumbo. 

A piece of info: you need two people for portal, one to keep it open in Eldarya, and (ideally) the other to open it on Earth. FF writers, here is my gift for you :)

Koori admits she looks a bit too fey for her to walk among humans. In ANE we do not have masking  potions, spells, nothing. If we could have change Erika into mermaid, perhaps we could have done same thing with dunno, lorialets? They look like humans, so... It is unnecessary bit, Koori already explained that she ahs to stay on Eldarya to open the portal. 

Mathieu talked about animals (this part is skipped) and I like how he mentions those who can be met on the mission. Erika would probably talk about elephants, birds of paradise, exotic pets, just to prove she knows the words. 

The next topic he wants to talk abt are vehicles, and here we are told by Gardienne how disater those lessons are. Too chaotic, not his fault, they don’t have plan... and you know what? True. Without knowing what and how they will act those lessons are pointless. They should create a real plan- the one that Gardienne came with is just a v rough sketch- and while creating it Mathieu should be asked many, many questions. If they were professional Guard ofc. 

This. This is how Beemoovs writers imagine how adult, responsible and wise leaders act. It’s another day of lessons and they haven’t thought about missions’ aliases. It’s a bit like my great espinage story which I was writing when I was 12. This kind of research and depth. 

HC is my fav this season: when you explain things to her properly she accepts gesture/situation, as long as she sees reasoning behind it. That’s logical and it’s a trait, a rare treat in ANE. Well done, Beemoov. 

Now, they all are surprised that we greet each other, say only our names (do you know last name of any one from TO besides HH? I know I don’t), small talk like “how are yous” etc. Except that we know that it is same on Eldarya, we know it from TO! 

HC is unable to hold a simple conversation for reasons. Lots of fun, similar effect:

And now Mathieu is deciding which nickname Nevra should pick. Nevra of the Shadow, assassin, spy. Who should have already mastered curriculum vitae of his fake persona. Dumbifying all characters so they could match our MC is too much. 

It goes smoothly this time, but still, they should have done it better. 

We are again told that Mathieu is super duper popular among girls. Poor things, they must be really desperate and naive to fall for his charm. Koori acts jealous, which is... strange? Because she is much more wordly than him, and honestly, this relationship would be pretty pointless? Sure, she is a bit bimbo, but she is not an idiot, she is rather smart what is good for her, Mathieu on the other way... I would say in polish that his only charm is being a “fresh meat”. Do you know what I mean? Not even a sexually capable fresh meat. Just fresh meat. 

This is really funny. I like this little scene...

Nevra tries to comfort HC for failing her introduction during lesson: 

He wasnt’ that forgiving when training Gardienne, right? Personally, this sentence should go to Leiftan- either because he is trying to be better, or because old habits (”good leif, a defender of children and widows”) are still strong. Nevra, specially in ANE- a colder, more cynical one, should be much stricter. 

This scene was written by different writer that the scene of training with him and Karenn. Or they just do not care at all about being in character. 

...and it wasn’t. It totally wasn’t. 

Btw, those optimistic lines were said by person who is cunning, who knows how cruel world is, and who betrayed and killed their own brother. Not much groung for being happy go lucky in my opinion. 

While the rest will be standing behind them in total silence, possibly glaring behind M and E’s backs. Not susp at all. 

Dear writer. I believe it was never confirmed whether Leiftan knew about Mnemosyne. He should- because Miko was telling him everything up to the point she started suspecting everyone around her, but we didn’t know for sure. 

Le vision, not everyone forgot Erika! 

Aaaaand, she wants to take measurments right there, in the garden, when everyone is standing in crowd. She really is dense, right? So much I will make a little pass here. Will try to make next ep the last part.

It's 2 am and I am genuinely screaming at your art. I always do, but christ. I usually check out in case you've uploaded something new, your art is a strong creative reference point for me, I hope you know that. It makes art feel fun again.

A lot of the art you post might be doodles and quick sketches, but they have so much life in them, and emotion, and I always, always love seeing it. I have a bunch of your drawings saved in a folder for reference whenever I'm stuck and feel like I should have some more fun, and enjoy what I'm doing. Then I go look at it, and feel immediately inspired, and go back at it.

I started seeing your art because of bnha, and THEN I realized that OH? YOU ALSO GOT INTO TRIGUN? My god, I read the post you wrote about the series just being...wonderful--and it REALLY IS,. No spoilers for anyone, just..it's good. its so, so good for so many reasons, and it hit a chord in my little heart, and now youre making art of it? Dont mind if I do???

I read that you were trying to focus this blog into more serious art, and thats fine, although if you were to also post your funny little doodles anywhere else, whatever they may be about, just say where and I'll be around too >:)) its always so very nice to see anything at all. So, yeah. screaming. I just saw the most recent trigun sketches and UGH. Theyre so fine. The cHARACTERS ARE SO FINE. id rant about the complexity and simplicity of it all. Aah thank you so much for that sweet ask!! The fact that you have art saved in a folder and that it helps you get back to drawing when you feel stuck, that makes me so happy to hear! SAME, BABE, SAME! There are hundreds of thousands of different ways to make art. Who the fuck says it needs to be either realistic, semi-realistic or super cute naive style akin to kids' books' illustration?

You have your unique art style. Let it come out in whatever form it comes. Let it be inspired by whatever style you are inspired by. The most successful artists usually have a distinguish personal style which makes you go "Ah, this is this artist's work!" You can’t find that if you restrict your art. Let your style be as it is.

I also started to enjoy my art more and not have these "ugh this art from last year looks horrible" when I just started to draw. Not caring how it looks. Just drawing. As long as the message gets through with what I want to express, it's enough. Before that I tried to draw and paint well. Tried to develop and get better, learn more and hone my skills. I did sketches, line art, coloring, shading. If I could do one art piece I was happy about each year that was a success.

It clearly didn't work.

Now, I enjoy all of my art pieces! Many, many years later, too :3

Kumon: “Ehh? You think so? Travelling is fun no matter who you’re with!” “Ah, it says they’re holding a festival right now. I wanna go!”

Kazunari: “Listen, Goku. This is an ascetic journey to Tenjiku in order to study sutras. It is not a sightseeing trip.”

Yuki: “Since I’ve come all the way here, I’d like to stop by a town a little further south.” “I heard there’s a popular sweets shop. They have fluffy pao cakes.”

Misumi: “No festivals and no sweets shops. There will be too many women. It’s dangerous. I’d much rather pass through the mountain range over there where we’re bound not to meet anyone.”

Yuki: “If a regular human like our master climbed such a steep mountain, he would freeze to death.”

Kazunari: “…That’s enough. I will head to the temple lodging where we are staying today by myself.”

Izumi: (Everyone has already captured the image of their roles at the read-through stage. Once again, the casting was perfect.)

You could point it out! Discussion of this analysis is super welcomed! I love talking about a song's meaning/interpretation, especially since it's different for everyone!

To understand the song much clearer, let's dissect what story Switch is trying to tell us.

Your heart beats with a thump and you yawn lazily Oh hey, let’s not let today end on a boring note NO NO Just a moment

Our story starts with a persona that the Switch is talking to. The song takes a conversation-type between Switch themselves and the listener or whoever persona you interpret this song with, which is common in Switch songs. The first stanza tells us that this persona is tired of life. This will be clearer as we go.

Close your eyes And sketch it to your liking Just like you used to do when you were little

Switch tells the persona to sleep and enter a dream. With them saying to this persona it was like they used to do when they're little, it means that the persona might be probably older and experiencing (insert every adult/teen problem here).

Let’s be as greedy as you want and coordinate what you wanna do C’mon, just be unbelievably yourself 1000% In the dream, your best cute smile marks the place It’s okay even if you fail to find it ‘Cause for you For us It’ll be our little secret in the dream

This is where it is explained what Switch's relationship with said persona. As a group of magician, they are helping them to "sketch" the dream they want to them.

When you wake up tomorrow Even if you don’t remember it You’ll somehow feel different And no one will know the reason

After the said persona had dreamed, when they wake up, they will never remember anything that happened between them and the Switch in the dream. However, they will feel different.

So, now you know the story, let's dissect every line that I want to focus on and how it became a song about cheering up someone "bit by bit".

Your heart beats with a thump and you yawn lazily Oh hey, let’s not let today end on a boring note NO NO Just a moment What was crushed can be restored If you ever feel like giving up and turning off the daylight in your life

Based on the lines, we could say that the persona is crushed by the problems of life, tired of existing, and just overall depressed. This is further supported by the line:

I don’t care if there’s a difference between being tough and being smart What matters is that you don’t look like you’re having fun at all

They are at the deepest bottom of their life while Switch managed to get them to smile at the end, it was hard getting there as the persona was heavily sad, depressed even. It's further heart breaking especially they recounted the persona's youth, pushing the idea that Switch had been with them since they were a child, and they were much more different before:

It's heavily supported by how the song has Lesson 1-3 in the lyrics and there are a lot of lines that say "Tomorrow we'll make it much more exciting/better", these are said lines:

Lesson 1 You can also use a bit of magic And when tomorrow comes Let’s make it even more exciting! Tomorrow we’ll give our Best Step! Lesson 2, we want to make you happy I’ve come to see you! There's a whole stanza about how it was getting already awkward for Switch since nothing seems to be working:

Ah, if we keep it this way It’ll become an awkward loop

This is where the comforting/cheering up someone bit-by-bit (or beat-by-beat, in this case, since it's a song) comes into place. We haven't talked about how Switch is trying to cheer them, which is vaguely explained in the chorus:

It's implied here that Switch is helping them to make a dream world they are comfortable with. To produce something that they shouldn't think of anyone else other than themselves, the things they want, the things that could make them happy. Switch is encouraging the persona to be themselves in the dream, even going as far as being 1000%, meaning more than they are showing in real life (we already went on how Switch knows them more because they have been the persona's "magicians" since childhood). Switch is letting the persona's be their playground of their wants and desires.

It is reminded repeatedly that it's the Switch's want and mission to make this persona happy:

In the name of all the magicians Lesson 2, we want to make you happy I’ve come to see you! This is the magic of meeting you in the dream

And they want the persona to rely on them when things get too complicated when life gets hard when things seem to be hopeless. They want this persona to come back in their dreams and have the happiness they want there. Because there, they will always find comfort and happiness that the persona is missing in their life.

Try saying it as if you were me The words will always reach your heart If you ever feel like giving up and turning off the daylight in your life

And as I said earlier, Switch never stops doing it. Over and over again, even though the persona is forgetting what the dream was, there's always progress to be seen every time this persona wakes up.
