I was caught in a big storm last week that knocked power out for two days and the internet hasn't come back on yet, but in the time I finished a reread of Cardinal King - all 3 arcs - and =) it just makes me happy.

There are a few mistakes, still, and reading it on a small screen from my drive files showed formatting errors and whatnot, but I really enjoyed rereading it. Characters made me laugh and I teared up at the end, and --

Anyway, TLDR, I love that I not only finished one huge fanfic project, but two full sequels. I love that I worked in some of my favorite Sailor Moon tropes and attacks and powers, I love what the shitennou became and my version of them. I like what I did with the senshi and Usagi. I love the criss-crossing and mish-mashing of plot points from Black Moon and Infinity arcs in making Architects of a New World and Bright Future. I love being manga-based but having anime touches and flairs from anime-only scenes, pulling from PGSM and Promise of the Rose and the Dream Arc. And I love that I named the final chapters of arc 3 after DiC dub songs - it made me laugh and nostalgia-all-up because I had completely forgotten I had done that.

I love Mamoru, and I love Helios, and I love Kaito and Nero and Yuu and Khalid. I love what I did with their powers and abilities. I love their relationship.

And I super love being able to reread an old project and still loving it.

Rereading all the foreshadowing I put in about the final arc and it's villains, remembering the side stories I had planned for the time period between arc 3 and 4 -- maybe I'll find the time to complete the Cardinal King project, but I like that the 3rd arc ends so nicely that it doesn't feel like that final arc has to be rushed.

ANYWAY this has been an author's reflection on a work she loves that she loves. ❤️ Kudos to me from me, and a sincere thank you to anyone else who has read, or intends to read, my little parallel sailor moon series.

This year, there seems to be

an abundance of Cardinals in my yard, something that I am not complaining about at all! From afar they all kind of look alike but up close, their individuality becomes more obvious. I believe these are all different birds. So similar but also so different.

Mamoru Meets Moegi Kimiko, a snippet

The little girl he bumped into is wearing an elementary-school uniform and is looking at him with an oddly sad expression.

Are you one of Chibiusa’s friends? Do I…

“I’m sorry for bumping into you,” he says while quickly looking over the girl and healing any wounds she might have. Fortunately, there’s only a little scratch on her right leg. “What’s your-"

"Are you one of my brother’s friends?” the girl blurts out, before embarrassment covers her face. “I’m sorry for being rude! He’s been gone for so long and I miss him!”

Kimiko?!

Why did that name flash through his mind?

The girl is rambling about how her brother taught her soccer and how to win arguments with their parents and how he has to be back for her red belt ceremony in karate, he promised! Tears are streaming down her face, and Mamoru reaches over to pull her into a hug.

The girl (Kimiko?) buries his face in his shirt, by the pocket that contains the stones of the Shitennou, and suddenly everything is warm. There’s an odd red light emanating from somewhere around her, but Mamoru doesn’t sense anything threatening. Just the spirits of his former friends.

Wait, can she hear me?! Kimiko, it’s me! I miss you! I… I can’t go back home but I’m safe where I am, so tell Mom and Dad not to worry, okay? I’ll figure out how to see you!

The voice running through his head is simultaneously strange and familiar, like a distorted memory. Kimiko is holding the jadeite in her hands and smiling.

“Where did you get that from?” Mamoru asks.

“…it fell out,” the girl answers. “It feels nice."

"It’s one of my friends,” he wants to say, but he shouldn’t confuse the girl. Not when she recently lost her brother.

The jadeite is still glowing red.

Almost forgot to look at the tags in that Giordano post, I'm glad that Cardinals being higher than Archbishops was something you mentioned, and that I was remem that fact correctly :). And I love that Machete surpasses someone who thought him to be a "good for nothing". Go white boy go!

#that sure pissed off that old man Giordano #didn't see that one coming #becoming a bishop is a very big deal #archbishop is an extra prestigious bishop that leads a particularly important diocese #and above both are cardinals #you usually have to be a bishop first to become one but it hasn't always been strictly mandatory there's lots of rules and exceptions #I think Machete is a bishop but largely in name only #in practice he kind of shortcutted from being a priest to a cardinal with very little bishophood in between #Vatican was kind of a wild west back then and in the end it's within Pope's power to grant these titles however he sees fit #and Machete was Pope's trusted personal assistant for years #moreover if you compare church ranks to secular royalty/nobility cardinals are equal to princes #so when you look at the power dynamics they're only second to pope as well as actual kings and queens #at least that's the case in Machete and Vasco's times I'm not sure about the present day #Vasco is a count so he's actually significantly lower in the hierarchy despite being blue-blooded #but neither of them have really internalized that #when they met Vasco came from a rich family and Machete was a no-name social climber #answered #anonymous

A portal opened in the middle of an alley.

Four young girls fell out of the portal and the moment they left the portal closed.

Ruby: We achieved!

Weiss: Wait, no is Vacuo?

Blake: It looks like the city of Vale

Yang: Is this possible, the city of Vale was almost completely destroyed

Weiss: Let's get out of this alley and find out

Everyone agreed with Weiss' idea.

When they came out of the alley, they got a big surprise.

The city of Vale.

Completely rebuilt.

Blake: But how?

Weiss: How is this possible!

Yang: Hey! Remember the city not completely destroyed but still

Ruby: It seems like the city has never suffered an invasion before.

Weiss: There's something wrong, very wrong indeed

Yang: What do we do?

Ruby: Let's walk around town and see if we can find anything

The girls started walking around the city. The city, even though it changed many things, was still identical before the Grimms attack.

Weiss looked at people and everyone was carefree and they were happy, what happened?

Weiss: There is something very wrong

Ruby: Let's go to Parker there was a big screen

Weiss: Do you think that is still there?

Ruby: It costs nothing to try

Blake: Let's go there first, then we'll go to Academy

Weiss: But wasn't Academy destroyed?

Yang shrugged his shoulders.

Yang: Who knows if Academy was rebuilt?

Weiss: I highly doubt it, I believe that the priority was to rebuild the city and Academy must have been left behind

Blake: Staying here arguing won't help anything, we'd better go and see about this soon and then see if Academy is up and running

Once again, the four girls headed towards a public park nearby, but along the way they noticed some different things.

There were men and women wearing blue and white attire, very reminiscent of the uniform of Atlas soldiers, Blake heard with his ear that these same "soldiers" are talking about them.

But they didn't do anything.

Blake “ there is something wrong ”

As soon as they arrived at the park they got a surprise.

A crowd of people gathered in one place and they were all looking in one direction for big screen.

Team RWBY looked at the big screen and them got a surprise.

The screen was showing a gigantic army fully armed and prepared for war.

On both sides of the screen there was a pole with 6 flags.

The flag that was lower was the flag of the White Fang which was more destroyed, torn, burned, holey and dirty.

On top of the White Fang flag there was a flag of Vale which was quite burnt.

On top of the Vale flag was the Mistral flag that had a huge hole on the flag.

And above the Mistral flag there was the Atlas Flag that had several holes and had a big hole in the middle but it still showed the Atlas symbol.

Above the flag of Atlas was the flag of Vacuo which was well burned, but the symbol, even though it was damaged, was still recognizable as the Vacuo symbol.

The last flag, the one that was highest.

An orange and white flag that had a crown and head of a jackalope who had big horns. The crown was between the jackalope's horns but was not on the animal's head.

Ruby “Why are the flags of the kingdoms like that? Where did that flag that's high up come from? ”

Team RWBY's attention changed and now their attention went towards the big screen.

There was a giant army.

An army larger than the Army of Atlas but much larger, proving to be the largest army ever seen.

But there were some familiar faces.

Cardin that bully was totally different, he was much older now he had a beard and slightly longer hair, he was wearing an orange and black uniform. He had his black mace being supported with his two hands.

On his left shoulder there was a kind of cape that only covered his shoulder, that had a half moon upside down with five stars on top.

Next to him was Velvet, that hadn't changed much. She also had the same cape as Cardin which only covered her shoulder and also had the same symbol the only difference was that the outfit and her cape were brown.

Next to her was Nora!

Nora had changed a lot, his hair was big, she was wearing pants too! But she still kept her skirt on, her arms were showing that she had those scars she got in Atlas. His uniform was blue with some pink details.

Her beloved Magnhild was upside down and her hands were resting on the end of the handle.

Next to her was her beloved Ren... Who looked like a real assassin.

If didn't his pink headband wouldn't be able to recognize he, his face was covered by a mask, his uniform was very reminiscent of his old outfit he wore in Beacon. He had it behind his waist.

Just like Cardin and Velvet, Ren and Nora had those capes on their shoulders with their respective colors.

Yang: Ren... Nora?

Weiss: What the hell is Cardin doing there?

Weiss had to control herself not to scream.

Ruby: Where did this army come from?

Between Velvet and Nora there was a door that opened.

Ruby's eyes widened.

Three figures came out of that door.

Jackalope, a creature with the body of a horse, the head of a rabbit and the antlers of a deer.

The second figure was Jaune.

But that wasn't the same Jaune that Ruby once knew.

He was totally different from before, he had a beard, your hair is long again, he was wearing more elegant clothes looking like a King.

On his left side was Neo.

Neo lost his long three-color head now his hair was short, she was wearing a dress and looked like a real lady she still had her umbrella.

Ruby: Jaune—

Soldiers: LONG LIVE YOUR MAJESTY!

Soldiers: LONG LIVE THE KING OF REMNANT!

Soldiers: LONG LIVE KING JAUNE!

The soldiers and public saluted the king.

Yang: Jaune?

Blake: A king

Weiss “ The disgrace aged like wine! ”

Ruby: Jaune... What did you do
