#thought it might be interesting to throw this out there #I think “playboy” is sometimes used in connection with Roman by Jesse/Mark in a way that can be read as a split from Kieran's view #and that's totally fair #or it can be read as consistent in that that's the image Roman works to project #which i tentatively think may be the implication for what his life looked a little like pre-series but still thinking through that #I think that's what makes Roman so interesting to watch when he's in those party environments #he's clearly good at people in a way his siblings aren't #and he knows how to be in those spaces (even if there's a discomfort with drugs and sex) #see for example how he is with Lawrence in S1 and that he knew about Rhomboid #but at the same time that's clearly not all of Roman or even an accurate reflection of his internal life #and it's unclear how frequently he actually goes out #anyway I think the point is just that Roman is interesting haha #and I think both reads support the fake playboy thing and not like...a real one lol #roman roy #succession #cast interviews #hbo succession #kieran culkin

Hey everyone, long time no see! Apologies for the months of silence - but I’m back now! I needed to take a much needed step back from HOCO and focus on some other projects of mine (as well as play a ungodly amount of BG3 hehe).

On my break, I also decided to kinda tear down HOCO and rebuild it from the ground up. I wasn’t really pleased with how the story was going and I think that really contributed to the burnout I felt with the project. I still would like to include the premise of the various life stages, but may go about it in a different way than I had initially planned - things to think about more I suppose!

I think one of the most impressive things about Small Saga for me is how well it balances tone. Like, looking at the plot as a whole and the kind of subjects it deals with, it's not a lighthearted game. You're waging a bloody war of revenge on the world and you kill plenty of people in the process.

But it never feels like it goes too far. It shows a lot of care in which foes you kill vs. which ones you beat up and scare off. I kept worrying about it at the beginning, cause you fight a few enemies that are just, like. A human's pet. And I kept feeling like "oh no I really hope I don't kill them that'd make me so sad" but it never happened. And through the whole game, I never saw the results of a fight and went "aw man that sucks." The game doesn't always give characters the fate they most deserve. Sometimes good people die and bad people live. But it always makes sense and feels appropriate.

And it's also a game full of goofy jokes and silly characters. One of the villains is a fascist dictator squirrel who vapes. At one point you find mouse porn on a bookcase and the characters discuss who they're into. You rescue a pigeon from a trash can. And it's a game full of hope, too. It's a game about making things better and not just letting things that suck keep on sucking.

In the end it left me feeling really happy.

#I finished it last night and it's so good #they sure pack a lot of emotion and a lot of fucking cool worldbuilding into such a short experience #it was like 8 hours or so for me #all four of the main cast are now among my all time favorite characters #Verm is such a character made exactly for me it's not even funny #“I cope with trauma through incredible violence” is so many of the tabletop characters I've played haha #small saga #yes I'm going to draw fanart #maybe tomorrow if I can

This excerpt from the letter Elminster sends to God!Gale post game has had me in a sadness chokehold for DAYS. I knew Gale was young when he was scouted as a new potential Chosen but he was EIGHT??? Eight years old. A child. A baby. And he was accidentally destroying property with fireballs that young? That boy was a sorcerer. The way that one moment changed the trajectory of his entire life.

Elminster watched a little boy cry over ruined flowers and so many years later finally feels regret.

#and I hope it haunted him til the end of his days #this all but confirms my hc that Gale was born a sorcerer #what human 8 year old is casting fireball accidentally or otherwise #his wizard training refined his innate sorcery and made him a ‘prodigy’ #which isn’t to say he isn’t deserving of that title because he is incredibly intelligent and has A Way with magic #but I do think he was More than a wizard #and I also think that’s what saved his life when the orb happened #it ate through his innate power which satisfied it enough to spare Gale’s life #at least long enough to get through that first horrible year #it’s dire again by the time tav meets him because it’s burned through all of Gale’s natural magic #so the man tav pulls out of the portal is for the first time JUST a wizard #(how long does Gale mourn that lost part of himself without knowing what he’s mourning) #anyway #I sad #bg3 #baldur's gate 3 #gale of waterdeep #mine
