Probably an unpopular opinion but James Potter was a grade a asshole (you know the type: rich popular guy who thinks he can get away with anything) before he had his whole character development arc around year 5 (probably the same time as the prank) so can we have more fics of asshole james before he learns that the world doesn’t revolve around him

Daan and Karin Romance Mod Alpha 1 (daarin_mod v0.1)
HUH??? SO THE DAARIN IS FINALLY REAL???
uh, yeah. apparently.
This is pretty bare bones, but I was proud enough to release it, in case some of you guys want to go through all the dialogue I made. Took me a while, there are many different options to chat with Daan :)
I feel like I am pretty satisfied with PRHVL Bop. I may add some touch-ups here and there, but It's pretty much done.
Beware, you can still compliment Daan's hair as any character, but only Karin will be able to start a conversation with him, almost as If he's only interested in her! :O
I spiced it up by including some lore about her! I plan to expand the lore of both characters since like with Marina, Levi and O'saa, I feel they are the characters that have most depth, and It would be awesome to add even more to them. Source for the lore is the "Trivia" section in the wiki: https://fearandhunger.wiki.gg/wiki/Karin
(I'll probably change this dialogue to include the fact it's oversized, could get some cool dialogue out of that.)
So yeah, enjoy Daarin gang, as I deploy this Holy Friday's gift upon you. Next week school starts again, so expect mod development to reaaaally slow down. I need to focus on my studies. Sorry. At least you have this.
DOWNLOADS:
They are both the same file. Just decided It would be wise to have two links in case one goes down. Media preservation!
Installation is explained on the readme text file. Just drag and drop onto the root folder of Funger 2 basically.
I recommend 7zip to unzip the file, but I think WinRAR should work as well.
By the way, I have a YouTube channel, yesterday I uploaded a video of me killing Centaur with only Karin and Daan! Check it out here:
youtube
Take care, and thanks for the support! If you notice corny/unbelievable dialogue, let me know here so I may make it more appropriate.

Triangle Strategy
Tumblr media
My obsession since a month. I finished all the routes and played so many hours, I'm finally ready to present it to you and I hope my review will pique your interest and that you'll join me in this then xD (because I LOVE IT TOO MUCH).
Triangle Strategy is a tactical rpg that also flirts with the narrative genre, in which you juggle between fights, cut scenes and choice phases that will influence the fate of Lord Serenor and the future of the continent of Norzelia. Let's say it right away, I devoured the game; I haven't enjoyed a tactical game this much since Fire Emblem 3H! The game has a lot going for it, both in terms of gameplay and narrative, but there are a few disappointing points that could have been better executed by Square Enix.
❤ The story is excellent, very well written and very engaging. The geopolitical conflict is coherent, and we don't just see everything through the eyes of the MC, there are also side moments to follow the plot from other points of view. It's easy to see that the game isn't at all Manichean; each character has their own vision of the continent's prosperity, and as a result, nobody really embodies evil or good. There's a real maturity of writing here, making TS not at all predictable or cliché. ❤ This feeling is reinforced by the choice system, since in wartime, no choice is fair to all, and concessions have to be made. This makes it almost heartbreaking to decide. The game offers us 2 forms of choice. First, dialogue choices to reinforce your character's convictions, revolving around 3 main themes: Morality, Liberty, and Utility. Then, scenario choices that will influence your game, based on a debate with your group; in fact, the convictions you've strengthened will help you win debates. It's an essential part of the story, and adds a lot of spice, if I may say so, as well as replayability (4 endings, including a "true end"). ❤ Let's talk about combat. The tactical aspect is fairly basic and easy to learn. On the other hand, it offers real diversity in terms of combinations. Each recruit has their own combat specialities (2 archers will not have the same attack and defense characteristics, and will have very different skills too). As a result, you really get caught up in studying the field, weather and enemies to come up with the best possible strategy. What's more, the game offers a fair amount of challenge in certain battles, so you'll sometimes have to start them all over again, which really pushes you to persevere and find the best possible combinations; it was extremely addictive for me. ❤ In terms of artistic direction, the 2d-hd pixel art is really beautiful, with superb lighting effects and depth of field. ❤ For the audio, the game is already fully dubbed (Japanese or English), which greatly strengthens our attachment to the characters and our immersion in the story. I played it in Japanese and recognized some big names in dubbing, so it really is a top-quality cast. Now I'd like to turn to the thing that most amazed me about this game: the music. Composed by Akira Senju, whose music for FMA Brotherhood I already greatly admire, he created here an absolutely incredible soundtrack! All the themes are memorable and effectively accompany the atmosphere of every moment in the game. I can say without hesitation that this soundtrack has immediately become one of my must-haves <3
+/- The group's main characters are very likeable and pretty well developed over the course of the game. It's a pity that this is not the case for the other units in our group. Their recruitment is done in a very expeditious way (the characters are accessible as soon as you've increased your convictions enough) based on a short scene like, "Hi, I've come to fight by your side". And then you unlock 2 extra stages if you raise their stats enough, and that's it…at least in Fire Emblem, the appearance of secondary units was done through combat, which allowed us to learn and test their skills, it was much more useful. +/- NG+ is really cool if you want to keep playing and unlock new characters or scenarios. On the other hand, why doesn't the option just appear in the menu, it's pretty confusing to launch (because yes, I relaunched another day and had forgotten about the little explanatory window, but come on!).
✖ Some combat animations are quite slow, and you can't really get past them even when speeding up. ✖ The exploration phases are not very interesting (only 2 phases have a real impact on the scenario, otherwise it's just to recover items). ✖ The game's OST is neither sold on Steam, nor accessible on Spotify or anything else, I want to tear my hair out in frustration. PLEASE SQUARE ENIX, LET ME OWN THIS MUSIC!!!! (;;)
As you can see, after 80 hours of play, Triangle Strategy is for me an excellent game in its genre, thanks to its narrative and strategic qualities, and I can say that I felt a great sadness to have finished it x') However, I'd recommend it to those who like to read, because yes, the dialogues are rich and abundant, and I think that might put off a lot of people expecting more combat and less blah-blah.
As far as I'm concerned, it's this balance between narrative and combat that gives this game its charm and strength, and which I'm sure will convince other lovers of the genre. I'm convinced of it.

I Read Assistant to the Villain
Tumblr media
Title: Assistant to the Villain Author: Hannah Nicole Maehrer Tags: fantasy, romance, grumpy-sunshine dynamic, office romance, mystery, humor Spice: None Cliffhanger: Yes CW: multiple forms of abuse, especially familial abuse and neglect, attempted rape backstory, attempted murder, prison isolation (let me know if I should add any) Read Below for Review (Spoiler-Lite)
Reading Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer tickled the part of my brain that watched Ella Enchanted as a kid and loved the visual world building of movie-Kyrria. It has a very fun fantasy-medieval world with modern conveniences like coffee and clocks. That said, the true stand out elements of the story, are the characters.
The titular Assistant, Evie Sage, is an overly optimistic and clumsy girl that ran into her most ideal job. She's an interminable busybody who keeps the office in tip-top shape to the point that it literally can't run properly without her after only a few months. She could very easily be really annoying, but honestly I think she resonates as very relatable, especially as you get further into the book and learn more about her parents and the situation they put her in. It's also really interesting to watch as her inner dark side becomes more and more apparent.
Her boss, the Villain of Rennedawn, is in my humble opinion, a lot more quirky and grumpy than he is actually scary. It's established quite quickly that the Villain is only truly heinous to those that deserve it, which is pretty common for this character archetype. A Villain with a heart-of-gold if you will. I really like him because he has a lot of little character details that make him feel more squishy, especially his love for sweet and milky coffee, get the boy a latte machine. His relationships with his family members, while brief, are quite enlightening and I'm curious to see how they will develop in the future. He has some things that he has done that I believe will come to bite him (or maybe not) in the next volume.
Evie and the Villain balance really well and have extremely fun banter and chemistry. I look forward to witnessing how their relationship will expand in future volumes.
Personally, I think this is quite a good book for a first time author with a unique idea. I think she had a really good grasp of the characters, which to anyone who has seen her TikTok videos shouldn't be surprising. However, I think the world-building could be fleshed out more as I would have liked to see and understand more of the anachronisms of this world and I hope she adds more in the next book. I am also looking forward to more time spent with the side-characters and how the relationship webs out even further (especially Blade and Becky). A lot of questions were raised and answered in this book, but just as many were left for the next installment.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has seen her skits and was interested in what stories these characters could get up to if properly developed. Also to anyone that was a nice and light fantasy book with light romance and a mystery.

So that job was a dud. We did keep the 100k, right? He said he was paying it up-front so I have to assume Yakou already collected it.
Tumblr media
I can't stop marveling at that gorgeous sky over Kanai Ward. I never thought I'd miss something so ordinary as the sky but after a full game spent in the rains of the Mind-Cleansing Bath, being able to see a moon occupying a starry sky above this city is breathtaking.
I hope ghost/homunculus lady can heal this city so its denizens can see this some day.
Tumblr media
Yakou's saying farewell to his office. Don't worry, man. You get to keep visiting the rooftop, at least. This rooftop becomes the hippest hangout spot in Kanai Ward.
Tumblr media
Aww, she came back. Makes sense. A man's trying to kill her, after all. Who's she going to go to? The Peacekeepers? She's smarter than that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
._. There goes our 100k consolation prize. Even though Yakou was visibly not the aggressor there. The man pulled a gun!
That's okay. Five years from now, Fubuki will drown half of their clientele so we get the last laugh in the end.
Tumblr media
To be fair, as frustrated as Yakou is, she's done nothing wrong. Aside from the weird contradictory writing bit earlier, anyway. She didn't want to go see the sketchy guy, which turned out to be a good call 'cause he tried to murder her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aww, she came because she's interested in you, Yakou!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note to writers: This is fine.
"Why does Character do the thing?" "Because it's what he enjoys doing."
That is absolutely a suitable enough backstory. Not everything needs a complex and traumatic explanation. Sometimes characters just like doing things.
Of course, Yakou will obtain a traumatic and complex backstory. He is, in fact, speaking with his traumatic and complex backstory right now. But my point is that he's still engaging enough even without it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OH MY GOD
OH MY GOD
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES HAHAHAHA
That completely blindsided me in a good way. I love it. They're old, estranged childhood friends and Yakou didn't even know it.
This relationship development is so good.
...
The badge has "Nocturnal Detective Agency" written on it. Nocturnal Detective Agency was the name Yakou came up with as a little boy for the operation he wanted to some day run. T_T
He won't live to see that dream come true but his homunculus, at least, will get to Play Detective with some of the most brilliant experts from across the world. This is filling me with all of the feels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is so sweet. It's so sweet. This is the best ship in the game. Hands down.
Tumblr media
Look at that face. He's beaten to hell and he barely knows this woman, even if they are childhood friends. He'd have to be out of his mind to accept the deal.
Of course he'll do it! He'd betray every unnecessarily gendered chat he ever had with Yuma about women and a man's duty and such if he didn't.
Tumblr media
You can feel how good these two were together. This is what building up a ship can be like when you just sit back and let it bake rather than shilling it at every opportunity.
And the fact that she hired him to be her bodyguard is such a twist of the knife too. Like. It already made sense that her death haunted him for so long that it ultimately drove him to revenge. But that extra layer adds even more dramatic spice to it. She didn't just die. He failed in his duty, in an actual terms-on-paper contractual duty and not just, like, "A man's duty to protect his woman".
It wasn't just spiritually his job to make sure this didn't happen to her because Gender Stuff. I mean, to him, it was, but it wasn't just that. It was. Also. Literally. His actual job.

What would be some spices or mixes thereof commonly used by the various races? I feel like that adds so much character to regional cuisine.
Favoured spices vary wildly from Province to Province, and even between regions! Everyone relies on some sort of spice blend to make their food more interesting, unless you're a particularly staunch and Imperial Divines worshipper. In that case, move along, we know you like bland food...
Altmer
Light flavours are key in Altmeri cooking, and their spices are simple and let the food speak for itself. Aside from standard sea salt and white pepper, the High Elves also like a blend of sesame seeds, garlic powder, shaved bonito, and dried seaweed flakes. Sprinkled atop sushi rice, this versatile topping is a must-have for Altmeri kitchens.
Argonians
Black Marsh is rich in plant life, and many of these plants can be dried and ground down to delicious spices! A blend of turmeric, ginger, finely ground chilis, and cloves is a quintessential spice blend used in many Argonian dishes, from meat and poultry to seafood and vegetables.
Bosmer
Despite the lack of plant matter used to make spices, this hasn't stopped the Wood Elves from developing their own meat-based flavourings. Combining everything from dried salty cheese, dried meat of various sorts, salt, and sometimes dried mushrooms, this mix is pounded down and mixed with water or jagga to form a salty and umami paste that is stirred into food.
Bretons
Breton food can be bland, but the region of Glenumbra specifically specialises in a lovely blend of herbs and spices for cakes and desserts. Cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, cardamom, rose petals, and dark brown sugar are ground together until fine and sprinkled into batter or drizzled atop finished desserts. Especially good with pumpkin pie!
Dunmer
Fire fern is a valued spice in Vvardenfell, and it's finely ground up and added to food much like pepper, but with a minty aftertaste. A common spice blend for Dark Elves consists of fire fern leaves, ground and dried comberry, canis root powder, and salt. Umami, spicy, and slightly bitter, this blend goes well with guar and nix-hound.
Imperials
Fennel and Battaglir aren't just tasty Cyrodiilic vegetables- they're also great in spice mixes. One household blend consists of fennel seeds, ground dried battaglir, carrot, basil, columbine, thyme, and dried chicken stock. Simple, but tasty enough.
Khajiit
The Khajiit love a punchy spice blend made from lime zest, curry leaves, smoked paprika, Prune Morel mushrooms, white and pink peppercorns, salt, and moon sugar. This blend is often served in its own little bowl to sprinkle on noodle and rice dishes at taverns and homes.
Nords
Another popular dessert spice blend is the Nord-style "pastry spice". Made from a mix of crushed snowberry raisins, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, juniper berries, and a bit of nightshade seed. Rich and fragrant, this is bound to make any pastry pop!
Orcs
Frost mirriam is an Orc's favourite herb, but it's also enjoyed when blended in with other ingredients to make a flavourful spice. Ground dried frost mirriam, allspice, paprika, sugar, chili, and tingly Reach peppercorns are any chieftain's favourite addition to food, especially red meats like ox and mammoth.
Redguards
Redguard spices are vibrant and exciting, and one of my favourite blends hails from Rihad. Made from pepper, cumin, curry, paprika, oregano, cinnamon, cloves, and whatever else one desires. As a result, this mix varies a little from household to household- some add a dash of turmeric, others cardamom!

An ask! Rank all the women of the house of Finwë (born or married in) with reasoning!
Earwen - FAV. THE girl. I have so many headcanons and she is WAY up on the list. She's so many leagues ahead. Love her.
Amarie - another fav, another blorbo who's mentioned exactly one (1) time, another girl who's entire personality i based solely on my headcanons. My hot take is that she deserves to punch Finrod in the face. She would be wrong about that but it would be funny.
Eldalote - THE VIBES ALRIGHT! I feel she's much closer in spirit to Aegnor that she is to Angrod. She's fiery and quick-witted and is as brilliant on battlefield as her brother-in-law. I don't think much about her but if you want to know, the lyrics I associate with her are "To please them, you need fire / to burn, reveal what your heart desires / you want a war? or justice? revenge, or revolution? / grab your sword, shield, ax, take position, we're spilling blood" (the song is "blood for the blood god" by prescious jewel armor)
Elwing - DESERVED BETTER. ALL THE BEST THINGS IN THE WORLD. ALL THE HUGS. HER FAMILY. HER HUSBAND. HER KIDS. HER BROTHERS. SHE WAS ROBBED AND YET!! love her
Galadriel - excellent aesthetic, tolkien's personal blorbo
Andreth (she counts. fight me.) - love her!! i don't have much thoughts but i love that she's a sage of her people and also her friendship with finrod is heartbreaking
Findis - now THAT'S some shaped design imo. I love thinking about her in Indis' and Finarfin's context but I don't have much else to say unfortunately
Nerdanel - I love how she's associated with water since there's not much characters who are assigned anything but fire. I love thinking about Feanor/Nerdanel, how their relationship developed and fell apart. Also I think she's neat.
Indis - just. yes. Love all the implications. Love thinking about the political situation she found herself into. Also love that she's not a perfect mother - it explicitly states she favoured Fingolfin.
Miriel - hmmmmmm yes the aesthetic!! she's definitely interesting and i love the fanon but i don't exactly love the saint-ification of her? And also hate how people use her to excuse Feanor's actions and slip-ups.
Lalwen - she's cool? i guess? i think the fact that she loved feanor definitely adds some spice and makes her stand out from the rest of her family. also i think she's fingolfin's little sister who causes chaos on purpose
Elenwe - love how she's mentioned exactly once yet has such a great impact on the narrative (re: turgon and idril)
Finduilas - i. don't have much thoughts. which is a shame. but her death was brutal and it makes me sad
Idril - she surely exists and she surely plays a big role but as i said before gondolin isn't much of an interest to me so i can't say much
Anaire - I literally have no thoughts about her but I saw amazing fanart that made me fall in love.
they're all special but some are more special than others

My review to My Dark Romeo: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I’m torn because I really want to give this book more stars. However some things did not sit well with me while reading. The first point being the character development, although I got to see Romeo grow throughout the book I didn’t really see this from Dallas. The FMC started annoying me in the middle of the book and it just grew from there. I could not stand her Pov, pettiness and just overall victim mentality. She acted like a spoiled child. My second point is the plot being extended in places that it didn’t need to be. Although the plot was good in some parts others felt very rushed or written in, just to make a character realize they like another, rather than building up to it. For example; the restaurant robbery. It felt cheap and written in so the authors can add a pity spicy scene later on + make Dallas come to term with her feelings. Although we did already see her feelings appear early on, this chapter was so unnecessary and just lacked interest for me. My third point; the spicy scenes were not really enjoyable to read. The only reason they would occur was because one character was always DTF while the other one has some sort of malicious agenda. In all honesty it also felt like the scenes were being described by a 16 year old which didn’t sit well with me at all considering the characters are 21+ and this is an adult book. My last point is the book tried to be woke with the times. Too many irl references thrown in and it just got old really quickly.
Now here’s why I gave the book 3 stars:
I loved the banter between the characters. Not just Romeo and Dallas but also Romeo’s friend group. I found myself laughing so much throughout this read. It made it super enjoyable for me and actually go through with finishing this story. Romeo was honestly a well written character. His past made me empathize with him and see why he is the way he is. His character development was honestly great. The plot was enjoyable in some parts and kept me wanting to read what happens next.
While reading, I had to keep in mind this is kind of like a beauty and the beast retelling. A lot of things will be predictable for the happy ending but also hold some nostalgia to the actual story (BATB).
Overall, I don’t think I would keep up with the series if there ever is one. But it is a good book nonetheless.
Now be warned if you’re expecting some high level spice for me this was just:
🌶️🌶️/ 5

hello, i hope you're having a nice morning/day/evening/night! do you have any tips on how to do pacing properly in fics? any advice would be appreciated!
Mmm for me it's been a lot of practice, rough outlining, and fine-tuning at the edit stage! But let's see what I can come up with.
Scene scope:
Write your thing then reread it (aloud if you can), see whether you find it too slow or too fast or whatever.
If it's too fast, take a step back and describe things more. Where are they? How does it feel? Anything the characters are thinking about? Let them breathe!
If it's too slow, cut down on the above, or review your structure. Scenes can remain interesting even if what they're talking about isn't plot relevant, it often comes down to whether it's stuff the reader cares about, or the way it's presented. Shorter paragraphs or intermissions, jokes, etc, anything that can spice it up a little if it's too slow!
Watch out for your sentence length; you'll need to vary them or you'll feel it's monotone (boring <--> slow). Also, use proper capitalization, formatting, spelling, and punctuation! This is an integral part of pacing.
Last thing, not exactly pacing, but helps tie it together smoothly: make sure your sentences and paragraphs aren't changing subjects midway and eliminate unwanted ambiguities over which characters gendered pronouns refer to.
If "she" and "her friend" are Alice and Bianca respectively in the first half, unless you want to confuse people intentionally, you can't call Bianca "she" in the second half, the subject of that part is still assumed to be Alice! You need to make it clear there is a new subject before you can call Bianca "she" instead of "[Alice]'s friend".
Why? Because writing is communication. You need to be clear to get your message across! That's why proper format is important. Texting with your friends has a low standard, but if you expect someone to get into your writing you need to make it relatively easy for them. If your writing is hard to read they will drop it.
Proper pacing makes stories flow smoothly~ Then, the reader won't even notice they've been reading for a long time!
Story scope:
Outlines are your friends, see if the reader will go a long time without the answer to a question or a scene you expect they'll be excited about (or YOU! Your enjoyment also matters!). If you're not into outlines, at least reread your past writing or try to figure out where you're going with stuff so you get a better feel of the overall pacing.
You may need to remind the readers of important facts offhand shortly before they become relevant again if something goes a long time without being talked about.
If you find your story's pacing to be too fast, let your characters breathe and talk to one another, add some scenes that develop them or showcase who they are. Fluff like this doesn't need to be plot relevant but it shouldn't be pointless nor destructive— though, if the point is a chuckle or explaining why someone's out of action, it's not what I mean by pointless.
By "pointless" I mean when even you're getting bored, or they're doing something they've already done without change, or it's information that's both boring and irrelevant, etc. By "destructive" I mean something that goes against something else that's important in your work, like messing up characterization, over-elaborating to the point of creating a plot hole, or going against your message.
Pointless scenes makes readers confused or bored (see: all the project STIGMA stuff in hi3 lately) while destructive scenes makes readers angry (see: character assassination in hi3 lately). And so on and so forth.
To be honest, a little of those is fine, especially if they're fun for you to write. Just... watch out, or you'll exhaust your readers' good will.
Last words
Feel free not to follow my advice if you don't like it, and happy writing! I know what I'm talking about but you are the only one who gets to decide what's in your story.

🖤 +30, she/her, literate to novella writer looking for a long-term, +25yo, roleplaying partner to write a realistic, rule-filled and modern MxM, pet/master relationship with heavy BDSM themes between lovers. These are my fave things to write, and currently I’m looking to add more threads with likeminded people who wish to make a character for the master’s role. I’m looking for tight control, a little bit of slice of life, drama and hurt-comfort, made interesting by the characters and the development of their relationship. Open to more softer and harder themes when it comes to spice, I just really want to write a beautiful story with someone who gets invested just like I do.
I won’t offer a plot prompt here as we can come up with everything together. I have a few muses I like to use, but I can also create a brand new dude for your liking. No bashful and passive offerings from this side, so do not worry. Character dynamics are the most important thing to me, and I like legal and sensible age gaps, yet not required. I use real life faceclaims and will listen to wishes if it’s important to you. Going for OCxOC here, but won’t say no to a CC from your side if there is a guy you like to write in this kind of a relationship. If we vibe, multiple pairings with doubling up is also a possibility, and for interesting characters and plot ideas turning the roles around is also all okay.
I write in Discord private servers, make excessive character profiles and write solo content to explain out past events. I make Instagram feeds and playlists, headcanon scenarios, chat a lot in OOC and generally just want to offer you something you would enjoy. All details from expectations to kinks can be discussed, but I’m quite limitless with obvious exceptions to the rule. Replies about once a day, and can also rapid-fire on good days. I’m GMT, yet I don’t mind your timezone. This is long term as I wish to dive deep into the pairing, so keep that in mind before interacting.

This is long term as I wish to dive deep into the pairing, so keep that in mind before interacting.

do you ship midam?
short answer: I like them a lot but no, I can't say I actively ship them. It's more of a fun ship-in-law.
long answer:
I'm not very invested in it. I kind of wish I was! I read fics that include them, but I don't go looking for stuff that focus exclusively on Michael/Adam romance (unless I randomly decide I want to read pwp, or if it's a fic rec/a fic written by someone I really like/trust with the characters).
I AM interested in their dynamic, but mostly the non-romantic themes (friendship, vesselhood, etc) and most of the time I'm much more invested in Michael (= what it means in terms of character development for Michael in general) than Adam... If I had to choose a Michael/human ship I would probably pick Michean or Michael/Sam because I'm much more interested in these human characters and the character development that would need to occur for them to end up with Michael.
One big turnoff for me is that a lot of fanon Midam dynamics are based on late season canon (which makes total sense since their only real interactions take place in S15), and I dislike most post-Kripke era characterizations, especially Buckleming!Lucifer, meaning Cagefics/Cage hcs are a bit annoying to me in the context of Midam in a corner + Buckleming!Lucifer who is mostly ignored or used as a plot device for Midam angst (trying to torture Adam or whatever); I also dislike how Buckleming!Lucifer's unidimensionality leads to a less complex interpretation of his dynamic with Michael, which flattens Michael's character as a consequence (e.g saying S5 Michael was lying when he told Dean he didn't want to kill Lucifer, etc.) that's a big nope for me - not matter the pairing/story, if your version of S5 Michael is completely indifferent to the idea of killing Lucifer then it's not Michael to me (and the swan song script agrees with me!) - and I'm not interested in him.
Speaking of flattening, that's another aspect that turns me off... there's nothing wrong with liking that, but the "pure, healthy unproblematic cinnamon rolls" interpretation of the ship does not appeal to me at all. I do like fun normalcore domestic aus, but only with some spice you know? Not necessarily angst, drama and heavy codependency, but at least something that addresses that the characters are more than y/n + y/n-with-wings in a coffeshop. (The same could be said for Michifer ofc, there are some popular fics/hcs about Lucifer being a smoll bean who did nothing wrong/etc.)
I don't think the "100% unproblematic" interpretation I just mentioned is the most common though, I've read great fics/hcs/metas that explore their characters in much more compelling ways... and in general I think Midam is fun and has a lot of potential for all types of interesting dynamics!!
However, looking for Midam 'content' is like a dodgeball game to me because of the headcanon incompatibilities I just mentioned (and the ones I kept to myself djfkjd), and at the moment the ship's potential doesn't motivate me enough to fuel me with the energy I would need to actively, regularly thread my way through this part of the fandom to look for things that tick all my boxes. Add Lucifer to the mix and it changes everything though; Midafer ftw 👑!!

Hi, so I’m a writer too but I find it quite difficult to come up with plots. I usually find inspo around me but I recently read Lovesick (my first yandere tannies story) and thought yours was so incredible. How do you usually come up with plots?? Is it hard writing such a dark genre?
Plot is difficult for sure! The worst part is always when you have a really good idea for a scene and then you basically have to create a plot around it to make it happen, haha. Thank you!! 💖 Ah, it's hard to say? My favorite ideas usually happen by chance! I tend to get inspired by the media I'm consuming and then plots just kinda blossom out of that? Lovesick was difficult because you guys picked the au/tropes etc, and I had to incorporate all of it. I basically wrote down everything that had to be included, and then tried to write small general outlines of different plots that could fit.
The thing I like to do is to take popular tropes and then come up with something that'll make the idea more unique and fun for me to write. Basically – how do you create conflict and how can you make it interesting? So for Lovesick, I decided that the trope (soulmate) was the conflict. How do you combine them? Well, since it's an yandere au, why not make the conflict something the MC can't escape since she's tied to them forever? And why not add a bit of extra conflict by making her soulmark pain? Then she'll literally have no reason to like her soulmate/stalker at all, and she'll look for ways to get away from them. And if we're already this far, why not add a little bit of extra spice by making her receive anonymous letters and it's a mystery who's behind them?
I don't know if you've read Abundance, but it was basically the same process there. I wanted to write something with hybrids, and the most "typical" trope is that the MC adopts them and takes them home. At the time I started writing there weren't any stories that I had seen that leaned into the whole prey/predator dynamic, so I decided that it would be my main conflict. So I split the members into packs of either prey or predators, and then the ongoing conflict is them clashing and trying to get rid of each other to win the MC's affection for themselves. Obviously the end goal is that everyone will live together, so you have to raise the stakes and force them to join hands. Then with time, they all get some juicy character development as they grow to like each other :)
Idk what it says about me, but I don’t find it that hard to write? It’s probably because I enjoy yandere a lot as a genre, so I guess you kinda become a little desensitized to it over time? I have some hard limits I won’t cross when it comes to writing though!
I hope this was somewhat helpful for you!!

If you’re comfortable answering this question, when and how did you begin to write fan fiction? How did you get so good? I wanna start writing fan fiction, like I have the plots and the storylines in my head but I’m scared of how shit the execution is gonna be lol, so I never actually write anything down out of fear. Any tips for an aspiring writer? Thank you so much ☺️
Hi anon!
First: the secret is practicing! Lot of practicing! And read a lot of fiction! Good fiction! And experiment with different genres and styles, find what suits you the most! Do research if your plot needs it! You might get some interesting plot elements out of the fun facts you find.
I started writing fanfics when I was around… 16-17 maybe. But before I did a lot and lot of roleplay online! I can’t remember the exact number of characters that I played, but I believe it’s around 40-50.
Our roleplay community always encouraged me to write long reacts, develop the plot between the characters and not just write about what they do. That I need to immerse myself into the character, add a lil spice to their thought processes, underlining feelings, communicate everything that can’t be seen. Give them more dimension outside of the general stuff, especially if it’s a background character!
So I had a bit of a headstart before writing fanfics. I started roleplaying in 2014 and give it up completely around 2019.
Around 2016 I made a Wattpad account and started publishing some shitty vampire au BTS fics (one of them was extremely popular in terms of numbers, 6k hits, 600 votes, 160 comments idk why people ate that shit up). I had a bbc Sherlock fic and a Gotham fic there but then I quickly got bored of the whole hellsite.
Idk why but I started with multi chapter fics instead of one shots. Maybe because I like plot driven fics, I love the foreshadowing, twists, the slowly evolving connections between characters. But this means a longer fic and more practicing.
I also wrote two original stories. Just for myself. I developed the plot to be around a novel length but I never finished them sadly.
And ofc I’m an OC parent. It’s a must have to create at least one character and fit them into the current fandom that I’m hyperfixated on. And I always put a lot of effort to write them with the least amount of canon divergence.
I was a lil wary to start writing in english mostly bc my roleplay buddies frequently told me that my english skills are… well, bad. But I got the most wonderful proofreader who not only corrects my flaws but makes the whole fic a hundred times better <333
So… I guess the reason I got “so good” is the decade worth of experience.
I’m rooting for you anon! The most important thing is to have fun with what you write! Whether it’s a shipfic, ocxcanon or reader fic. With every lil sentence you write down you’ll get better and better! Progress comes with time!

Sources & Significance 1_1.12 - Reader
Kushner, D. (2003) ‘Masters of Doom’
In this book the author charts the inception and creation of id software and their games Commander Keen, DOOM, DOOM II, Quake & Quake 2. It also covers the history of John Carmack and John Romero before carving out their name in gaming history as well as the follow up of the breakdown of their professional relationship. I found this book extremely illustrative in helping me understand the pioneering mindset and attitude of early game design as well as historical approaches to story and gameplay in video games (the famous and since disavowed quote of: “Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important” - John Carmack as a starting example).
Williams, W. ‘Significant Zero’
Penned by the writer behind Spec-Ops: The Line this book is a written manifesto of his experience on the way to and through the AAA Game development scene. It is filled with funny anecdotes and harrowing personal tales of the pressures of the industry. He goes into detail regarding writing and designing characters and the soul-crushing limitations producers will put on your ability to express yourself as well as the high highs of shipping a game and pouring your heart and soul into your work. A fantastic read although I would have liked a little less background a little more focus on game design.
Storr, W. ‘The Science of Storytelling’
This incredible book is full of insight into stories. From why we tell them, to how and why we react to them the way we do. It has some fascinating sections regarding improving your writing, from structure, tense and characters across perspective, flow and most importantly how to make the most of every word. It made me realise that I was vastly over-complicating my writing and bogging it down in unnecessary detail. It is also edited exceptionally well, making for a very smooth read that provides a lot of scientific data while making it very digestible. A great choice for anyone wishing to understand the process of writing better.
Figgis, M. ‘The Thirty-Six Dramatic Situations’
Based on the classic 32 dramatic situations this one adds and changes a few to cut down on redundancy and modernise some situations. I’m personally a big fan of concepts being refined into concise and complete categories so this book was right at home in my creative arsenal. It works especially well as a supplementary work to spice up stories when momentum has halted or some events don’t seem to align just right. I would highly recommend the practice of picking 5 situations at random and forcing yourself to craft a story from these prompts. An excellent way to stretch the creative muscles and refine your writing.
Cowan, A. ‘The Art of Writing Fiction’
Another book about the writing process this one works well with The science of storytelling as both have their own unique approach. While Storr’s book focuses on a more scientific approach, Cowan’s is more holistic, with anecdotes and advice from multiple writers. It is also formatted in a rather interesting way, breaking up the information into smaller boxes almost like a text-book. The writing style is sharp and while holistic manages to not deviate from the point and get lost in unnecessary practices or information. It also features practical exercises that, if you so choose to engage with, will help you put theory into practice.
Schell, J. ‘The Art of Game Design’
A incredibly vast and somewhat meandering take on the discipline of game design and all that surrounds it. It applies a set of ‘lenses’ to game design, each being representative of a school of thought within game design, it then taxes you with applying these to your game in order to refine and evaluate it’s strengths and shortcomings. While you will likely not find every lense applicable to your own work, there are many breakthroughs to be had through the application of this book. I must admit I did initially struggle to get into this book, there is such a wealth of knowledge and some of it more holistic than I was used to from an instructional book, but I found that once you have a project in mind you will find many useful new approaches to your craft in this book.
Skolnick E. ‘Video Game Storytelling’
This book is a breakdown of narrative approach to video game storytelling. It’s structure was particularly inviting to me as it seems to be written with a classic writer’s approach, easing you into the ins and outs of game narrative through familiar structures such as character arcs, plot structure, dialogue, etc. Building on this he breaks down the differences between novel and interactive writing in a very approachable manner. He also manages to draw really effective comparisons between disciplines and really highlights the hidden narrative in every game, regardless of genre. I would recommend this if you’re looking to bolster your understanding of narrative interactive or otherwise.
Yorke, J. ‘Into the Woods’
This was the first book I ever read regarding narrative construction and story writing. It is almost spellbinding. You can tell John is a natural storyteller as even when he is teaching you about writing he manages to do so in an engrossing and artful way. But while there is a somewhat almost whimsical nature to the instruction, the book very much lives on the author’s teachings it has a strong structure that carries you along even as some points may be re-tread multiple times (this repetition is snuck into the book to help you really set the foundations of his teachings).
Riedl, M. & Bulitko, V. ‘Interactive Narrative: An intelligent systems approach’
This article covers Interactive narrative through the application of an experience Manager, an omnipresent AI that can be considered an author surrogate. It proposes multiple ways the system may work with interactive narrative structures and NPCs in order to create an interactive world that brings the player into the narrative. It proposes Authorial Intent as being a driving force that needs to be represented by the systems the experience manager applies. It makes for a very stimulating read if you are interested in interactive narratives and the ways complex systems can be broken down creatively through the use of AI.
Weiland, K. M. ‘Creating Character Arcs’
What story would be complete without characters. This is something I neglected early on in my writing attempts. Focusing on well tread archetypes in order for the reader to fill in the blanks. However this often lead to flat, lifeless characters. In this book I found a manifold set of approaches to breathing life, agency and pathos into your characters. The book mostly concerns itself with the characters’ arcs as they relate to the progression of the story and the lense through which the two interact. While I do believe that it’s approach at times can be a little too dogmatic and sparse, I have found it very useful to consult this book when I feel my characters are languishing or failing to connect with the plot.
