I think I can try to answer anons questions about the characterizations. Apologies in advance because this is LOOOOOONG.
First things first, to be in the SAS means more than just being a soldier. The British SAS are the literal top of the top, cream of the crop of their special forces. They are compared a lot with DEVGRU (seals) and Delta Force. Less than 1% of armed forces members can pass selection and complete their training. They are all, in their own ways, very hardened individuals. They’re all extremely intelligent in several skills, and equally competent. (This isn’t to stroke off the special forces. They are not superhuman and are never immune to dying from their own mistakes or pure bad luck. It’s extremely dangerous to be in counter terrorism or do raids like they do, and a not insignificant amount die of dumb mistakes or unavoidable circumstances. But they’re not to be fucked with either)
Soap is sniper, demolitions expert. These require math skills and chemical knowledge. He’s intelligent, stoic sometimes but more spirited. He wants to help. He gets angry when bad things happen, and he seems to really care about civilians. He’s got a strong sense of right and wrong, and voices his opinions always. He pushes buttons and boundaries, but he’s no braggart. Equally, he is intense. His humour is actually kinda dry and teasing, banter style humour. He’s not actually very silly.
Ghost is more ambiguous. He’s more rugged and detached. More introverted. He only starts joking with soap in alone, more than halfway through the game, so his trust is gained through time and effort. His humour is dry, sometimes dad jokes and sometimes fucked up jokes. Overall, he’s emotionally detached and goal oriented. He’s got a bit of the sillies though, just a taste.
Gaz is an extremely important main character. He was vital in all games, including the first mw reboot game in 2019, his character was made before soap and ghosts were. (Which is why his deliberate exclusion is a goddamn travesty). He’s spirited and strong, his skills of resistance to interrogation, escape and evasion, as well as VIP protection means he’s an intelligent independent mind. While injustices anger him, he’s got a level head and can cede to reason and keep that anger supressed, as well as be an important voice of reason. He can also be sympathetic and guiding, as seen in the mission where he guides a civilian through an extremely dangerous situation to safety.
Captain price is a staple character for the series. He’s confident but also slightly unhinged. He’s experienced, maybe a bit detached, he doesn’t give a god damn about consequences unless he gets what he wants or completes his goal. He will throw every law out the window. He will abandon basic morals and principles. He’s extremely dangerous and not to be fucked with or questioned. Hes called John “war crimes” price by the fandom for a reason. He has his more gentle side, but it’s rare and he will only show it to people he seems worthy of it, like Farah Karim or Kate laswell. He saves people but he does it roughly, he never seems to handle civilians with kid gloves, and he’s kinda rough and detached from them. He’ll save your life, but he’ll probably break your arm in the process and definitely won’t apologize for it. It’s important to note he knows what he does is fucked up. He knows people don’t like it. He gives people a way out, lets them choose if they really want to fully jump in the mud with him. He also smokes cigars with car windows rolled up. Absolutely evil action. He’s also my favourite and I love him in a way that you love a grizzly bear.
Obligatory Kate mention. Kate is a cia agent who is basically the leash that keeps John from acting out too hard. She reins them in, keeps them informed. She’s level headed and a quick thinker. She knows how the game of war is played, when and how to play by and within the rules and keeps everyone from breaking them in ways that could spiral out of control. She also knows when to let them do shady shit, and how to get them out of the messes they get themselves into. She is a very strong character, mainly in mind but also in body, and will get her hands dirty if she has to.
TLDR these are deceptively complicated characters, as in, it’s easy to mistake them as pretty surface level. They’re also easy to mistake with their fanon characterizations, which while fun, are often headcanons that the fandom has taken and run with. They’re also, not always very accurate depictions of the characters. If you wanna write them right, you gotta watch and listen to their mission dialogue.
These are generally simplified introductions based on what I observed playing the games.
Tip and trick, if you’re writing a dialogue line, imagine the characters voice saying it out loud. Say it out loud yourself. If you can fully hear the character saying the line, it’s probably a great line. If you can’t picture them saying it, tweak it until you can. This helps me a lot.
Thank you :)
Also love the kate mention

Blow Your Top Off
Pairing: Loki Laufeyson x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~1.8k
Warnings: angst, being picked on and teased, blowing up and saying something hurtful
Summary: By day, you're a badass Avenger with fire powers. By night, you're a chemistry student just looking to get a degree. Things would go so much smoother if Loki wasn't there to bother you every single time.
Squares Filled: free space (2021) for @lokibingo

Another successful mission down and your day isn’t even halfway over yet. Off goes your Avengers clothes and on goes your casual clothes. Your Avengers outfit consists of stretchy spandex, leather knee-high boots, knife holsters, a fire-resistant jacket and fingerless gloves, and cute cat earrings to top it off. Your public attire consists of leggings, boots that scrunch at your ankles, an oversized sweater, and a cute headband with little ducks on them.
No one would be able to tell that the badass Avenger is now a snuggly college-going woman. You grab the things you need for all of your classes and cram them into what feels like the smallest backpack ever. You grab your laptop bag and head out of your bedroom to join the others in the main room.
Only a few more semesters of this. You can do this.
“I’ll be back at two in the morning. Don’t wait up for me.”
“I don’t know how you do it,” Natasha says. “To work physically then mentally sounds exhausting.”
“It’s not easy but if I want my biochemistry degree, I have to.”
Your love for science and chemistry is almost as big as your love for being an Avenger and helping people.
“Hey,” Bruce says and comes out of his lab, “when you get back, I’ll have the lab unlocked for you.”
“Thanks. I’ll see you guys later.”
A lot of the time, you, Bruce, and Tony would spend time together in the labs to create different chemicals and hone your skills as a scientist. They do their best to push you to the limit which you’re thankful for. There are things you won’t learn in college that Tony and Bruce can teach you. You leave the tower and walk down the street to the nearest subway. You don’t have a car but you like taking public transportation. It helps you calm your mind before a stressful day in school or at work. You don’t have to worry about driving laws or other people because you can sit back and focus on other things.
People pass by you without a second glance because they don’t recognize you without your Avenger gear on. You’re kind of glad that you’re not seen as a celebrity like Tony. You like separating your personal life and work life. You’re not paying much attention to those around you but you do notice when you see familiar black shoes in your vision.
Loki saw you leave the tower and decided to join you on your walk to school. Out of all the Avengers you deal with, Loki has to be the worst one. It started off as a dislike but it’s creeping into annoyance and hatred territory. All he does is play pranks on you, always trying to one-up you on missions, annoys the shit out of you, and generally isn’t a good person when it comes to you. To others, he’s quiet and minds his own business so you don’t know why you’re the outlier.
“Leave me alone, Loki,” you sigh and continue to walk.
“What? It’s good to have a buddy in the city. You never know when someone will come up to you and grab you.”
“If they try that, I’ll burn them,” you smile sarcastically. Not only are you a badass Avenger, but you also have fire powers you know how to use well. You look at Loki with fire in your eyes. “Do you want a demonstration?”
Loki chuckles, completely unaffected by your threat.
“Darling, I’d ice you out before you even got the chance.”
“Don’t call me that,” you glare and walk faster to get away from him.
“Whatever you say, love.”
You two get to the subway and walk onto the same subway car. The bastard even sits next to you even though there are other empty seats around. Since it’s past eight at night on a weekday, the subways have been cleared of everyone bustling to and from their jobs. You put in your headphones to block out Loki’s chatter even though he continues to talk.
You’re not sure why he’s going to the same college as you, or why he’s even going to college in the first place. He claims he wants to try more human things like college but you don’t believe him. He got himself enrolled in the same classes as you as if he’s actually interested in chemistry. You’re here to work hard to further your career while he’s here to mock you.
He uses magic to cheat for the right answers, which is another reason why you hate him. He can do things effortlessly and nothing bad ever happens to him. The subway ride only takes twenty minutes but being with Loki makes it feel like it’s for longer.
For the first class you two have, Loki tries to disrupt your train of thought or messes up your notes so you have to start all over. He continues this behavior for your next two classes so much that you’re about ready to burn this entire building down with him inside of it. He’s picking something off your sweater and is talking about something he noticed about the previous Avengers mission and it’s starting to get to you.
You grip the sides of your desk and allow your fire powers to flare angrily. Your powers even burn the edges of the desk to a dark char.
“If you don’t shut the fuck up, I will blow your fucking head off,” you hiss at him.
By the last class, you’re just trying not to cry. Loki is really pressing your buttons and you’re trying to be nice and civil about it. If he continues then he’s not going to like what comes out of you. For someone with fire powers, you’re usually very tame. However, when you get pissed, everyone better stays out of your way because you can be very harsh.
“I’m warning you right now, stop,” you whisper to him.
Loki pokes your side once and that’s enough to make you blow up. You stand up so angrily that you kick your chair back several feet behind you.
“Shut the fuck up!! God, you’re an annoying little prick!” you scream at him. Everyone, including the teacher, stops what they’re doing to look at you. “No one at the tower wants you there, you’re always butting into everyone’s business like it’s yours, and I’m shocked you were ever loved in the first place! Odin should have left you on Jotunheim! No wonder people like Thor better!”
Loki stares at you with his mouth open and hurt written across his features. Yes, he knew this was coming. He knew if he continued to bug you, this would come out and bite him in the ass. He just never knew how much it’ll hurt.
“Y/N! Loki! Please exit my class,” the professor scowls. “Make your way to the Dean’s office.”
You huff in anger and gather your things while Loki sits there dumbfounded. He brought this on himself but he can’t help but feel hurt at your words. You’re the first one out of the classroom with Loki trailing behind you slowly. The Dean didn’t have anything helpful to add since she told you to go talk to the counselor who might help with your anger issues.
You’re not sure why this is necessary but you don’t want to get expelled from this school. You’ve worked too hard to let Loki ruin it all for you, so you go to her office without question. You and Loki have been sitting in her office for the past thirty minutes without saying a word to each other.
“Do you have anything to say to each other?”
You turn away from Loki without looking at him, proving to him that you really don’t want to look at him. It took everything in you not to use your powers on him.
“Okay, we’re going to try something.” She reaches into her desk and produces two pens and two pieces of paper that she passes to you two. “You’re going to write something you like about the other. Just one thing. Can you do that or should I get the Dean in here?”
The fear of getting expelled is enough for you to comply with her silly request. You cross your legs and use your thigh as a base so you can write on the paper. Loki sees you doing this so he decides to do this, too. You peek over at Loki to see something shining on his wrist. He always has the best things to wear since he brings them from Asgard. On his wrist is a shiny gold bracelet that has the stars woven into the sides of it.
It’s pretty, you guess. You can’t think of anything else since you’re still pissed at him so you write that you love his bracelet. Once you’re done, you fold the paper and hand it over to Loki. He’s finished writing and folded his own but only takes yours instead of exchanging it. He opens it, reads it, folds it back up, and pockets it.
“What about my note?”
“I couldn’t think of anything.”
He grabs his bag and leaves the office before you can say anything to him. The counselor sighs and writes something down on her pad.
“Listen, I’ve seen your record. This is your first offense. I only wanted to keep the peace here. Don’t do it again.”
You grab your bag with a huff and leave her office without another word. Prick, you think to yourself. Loki isn’t there when you ride the train back to the Tower. You’re so exhausted that you’re not even going to go into the lab to do some extra work. Your mind is too preoccupied with Loki to care about anything else. What you said was mean and you shouldn’t have said it, but he makes you so fucking pissed.
You walk into your room and dump your bookbag onto your bed so you can put everything away. You get to the last few items when you see a plastic baggie at the bottom of your bag. It wasn’t there when you left the Tower earlier. Inside the baggie is Loki’s bracelet and a note. You open the note and read Loki’s delicate handwriting.
I couldn’t think of just one thing. Everything about you is amazing. I am sorry for bothering you.
If you felt bad before, you feel guilty now. Loki has had a thing for you ever since he came to the tower, but he doesn't know how to deal with these new emotions. Everyone always chose Thor instead of him. He never ended up with the girl so he never got the feeling of liking someone. He messes with you because at least your attention is on him, but he never knew just how bad he was affecting you.
What the hell are you going to do now?

"You're alright. I got you."
I'm trying to break my writers block, so here's this short little fic. I also am doing requests. This is also posted on my ao3 acc
TW: angst w/fluff?, Wesker's a bit oc, made up character, Reader is a assistant scientist working for Wesker, GN! Reader
Summary: When returning back to Wesker's lab, another scientist "accidentally" spills chemicals onto Reader. Trying to not burden Dr. Wesker, Reader ends up worrying the blonde scientist.
Tumblr media
Art made by SilverSerpentA1 on DeviantArt
It was already a rough day, the new security had wasted 10 minutes at the entry of the underground labs. Saying "that I need to show that I was an employee." Then when I got to my desk, which was near Dr. Wesker's, he scolded me for being 15 minutes late. Sure I wanted to reply with a snarky remark, but that would only get me in more trouble.
But it only got worse, Dr. Wesker had ordered me to go print files from the latest Tyrant experiment and when I came to put them on his desk, Dr. Maria spilled chemicals over me.
Dr. Maria, said that she "accidentally" spilled them on me.
"I'm so sorry!" Maria said, "I wasn't watching where I was going."
I grimaced.
"Thanks for the bath, Dr. Maria..." I sighed.
"Please forgive me," She said, before walking off with the container that once had liquid in.
I shook my head, I never liked Maria. She would always do something to me when she had the chance. She does this because I was promoted to Dr. Wesker's assistant. She is very petty for someone in such good position.
I started to feel a burn sensation on my neck, face, and stomach. I quickly ran to the nearest bathroom, this was not good.
I stood in front of the bathroom mirror, covered in this pick liquid. Quickly taking off the lab coat, I threw it in the contamination bin. I took off my long sleeve shirt, grimacing how the texture felt.
Whatever the chemicals were, it was causing my skin to burn and it quickly grew red in places where the liquid touched.
I ran my hands under the faucet, and splashed water onto my face. Then grabbing paper towels, I wet them and cleaned myself the best I could.
I only had five more minutes until I would have to return to the lab.
The water was cold, and help slow the irritation. It no longer burned but I looked extremely red. Sighing, I took out an extra shirt and lab coat that was in the closet.
The shirt was a little big but it would have to do. I walk out the bathroom and headed to Wesker's office, preparing to be scolded for being late again.
I opened the door and Dr. Wesker stood at his desk, going over files.
"You're back," He said without looking, "I was wondering when you would get here."
He finally looked up, and he didn't seem happy.
"I'm sorry, I had to take care of something... I promise it won't happen again."
He sighed.
"Dr. Maria gave me the files... I recall assigning you to give them to me." He looked at me.
That's what she did. Spilled the chemicals on me just to give him the files. She is petty. Very petty.
"I'm sorry, I-"
I started to get an itch all over my body.
"I... I knew I dropped them somewhere-"
I started scratching my neck and stomach. By now, I knew I was red and irritated.
"Dr?"
Wesker started walking towards me, he pulled gloves out his pockets and put them on. His eyebrow slightly twitched.
"Come here," He ordered.
I did what he asked, and moved closer to him, still scratching my body. Once I was closer, he moved my hands from my neck, and observed my skin.
I felt hot under his gaze, or maybe that was the side effects of the chemical.
"Come," He moved away, walking to the lab.
I quickly followed, trying to resist the urge to scratch. The burn that I had earlier, came back. So now, not only was my skin red, itchy, it was also burning. Tears started to fill my eyes, but I blinked rapidly to stop myself from crying.
He pointed to one of the lab beds, and shined a light on my skin.
"Is it anywhere else?" He asked, looking in directly in my eyes.
"Yeah, m-my stomach." I said, shakily.
He gestured to take off my lab coat and lift my shirt. I took off the coat. He tossed the coat in a bin. I sat with my shirt lifted to my chest, slightly embarrassed. He didn't seem fazed, gently touching and looking at my stomach and neck.
"Hmm..."
I hissed, the burn started to increase, and I was on the brink of sobbing. I closed my eyes, embarrassed and in pain. I could here him sigh and rummage around the room.
"I believe you have side effects from poison ivy. But they're amplified..." He said, somewhere around the room.
"You're lucky, we have an antidote..."
I slowly opened my eyes, Wesker held a syringe that had a clear liquid in. I groaned, my skin felt like I was getting burned alive.
"Shh, I got you. You're alright dearheart." He said, obviously noticing my discomfort.
I felt a prick on my neck as Wesker held me. Slowly the burning and itching ceased. As it stopped, I had tears going down my cheeks. Wesker lightly wiped them away, the gloves he had on where now in the trash bin.
I cling onto him, like how a child would to their mother, it was unprofessional to do that, but I didn't care.
"You're alright. I got you," He said, gently moving his arms.

SiliNOT! Testing and Review
Since I run a lot of casting workshops, I've had several people in the costuming/maker community ask me my opinion on SiliNOT!, a relatively new product advertised as a budget- and eco-friendly moldmaking alternative to silicone, urethane, and other single-use materials.
I finally bought a couple of bottles to play with, so I did a test project. My experience and findings are below! (It's not a recipe blog, but if you want to skip the play-by-play and get to the TL;DR, it's under the big "In Summary" header near the bottom.)
Tumblr media
First, if you aren't familiar with this material, SiliNOT! is a remeltable, reusable medium for making molds. Though its exact ingredients are not disclosed, it purports to nontoxic, food-safe, and compostable. It melts in a household microwave or double boiler and solidifies at room temperature (or in a refrigerator/freezer for faster results). The website is https://silinot.com/.
(I am not an affiliate, and have no connection to this company apart from having made one retail purchase from them. I just have a lot of casting experience and like trying out new products.)
The Positive Original
I’m still in the middle of a Vincent Valentine build, so I decided to test the SiliNOT! on his custom buttons. My original is a stack of various nonporous materials: an antique (probably Bakelite) coat button, an epoxy resin dome I cast using a mold I already had in my library, and some engraved Worbla’s Pearly Art for the raised detail. The button shanks won’t be added until the final casting, so the original can be mounted flat for the moldmaking process.
Sample Worbla on the left; completed button stack on the right:
Tumblr media
The Mold
I built the mold container the same way I do for silicone pours, with the flat back of the button fixed to a styrene plate and a cylinder (actually a small paper cup with the bottom cut off) surrounding it for the walls. The lip of the cup is sealed all the way around with Monster Clay to prevent leaks.
Tumblr media
Heating and Pouring
The SiliNOT! didn’t take long at all to heat up; I did maybe four or five 20-second bursts before it was completely fluid. The bottle does get rather warm, so hand protection isn’t a bad idea. If you have heat-resistant gloves, you can use those; I was working in my kitchen (yay for nontoxic stuff!), so I just grabbed an oven mitt with a silicone grip.
Tumblr media
The melted SiliNOT! looks a bit like Luke Skywalker’s blue milk. It’s about the consistency of a yogurt smoothie and likes to pour in a thicker stream compared to silicone. While silicone can be stretched into a thin ribbon for delicate pours or chemically thinned with solvent for really tricky jobs, SiliNOT!'s viscosity is dependent on temperature and never seems to get quite as thin as silicone.
I’d automatically made my mold compact to conserve material (not really a concern with a reusable moldmaking material like SiliNOT!, but after using silicone for more than a decade, I’ve trained myself to be as efficient as possible), so the walls of my mold container were only about half or three quarters of an inch from my object. Because the target was so narrow, I found it difficult to accurately fill from the lowest area of the mold with the SiliNOT! The heavier pour also means more air can get trapped in or under the material.
Tumblr media
Bubbles are one of the areas in which SiliNOT! is decidedly inferior to silicone. SiliNOT! has higher viscosity, so bubbles don’t want to rise to the surface without vigorous tapping, which can distort the mold edges or affect leveling depending on your mold container. The bubbles that do make their way to the surface are difficult to pop, even when poked with a sharp implement. Heat gun degassing doesn’t have much effect.
Since the bubble surface cools and skins over quickly, I actually had to use a tool and scoop some large bubbles completely out of the mold to allow the surface to level. Critically, the SiliNOT! is opaque, so you can’t spot bubbles clinging to the surface of your original. (This is why my first mold was a reject, and I had to repour. More on that below.)
Hardening
Once the surface had set, I carefully moved the mold into the refrigerator to cool faster. Here’s another area where some types of silicone can have an advantage: I typically use fast-curing Smooth-On products (because I always have random quantities left to use up after our casting workshops), so I rarely have to wait more than half an hour for a silicone mold to cure, regardless of its size or mass.
The SiliNOT! has to chill completely before handling, though, and discharging that amount of heat requires a fair amount of time even in a cool environment. My mold was pretty small, maybe 2 1/2” wide by 1” deep, and it still took around 40 minutes to cool completely. A larger, deeper mold could hold considerably more energy in the center, and might have to be left in the freezer for a couple of hours before use.
Demolding the Original
When the mold was completely chilled, I removed it from the refrigerator and popped it off the plastic plate I’d used for the base of the mold. The texture was very different from what I’d expected: Unlike other meltable materials (Monster Clay, et al.) that have a firm surface when cool, the SiliNOT! remains tacky, which means it promptly collects any debris that crosses its path. In my case, this meant I had to pick dog hair off the surface throughout the casting process (and I don’t want to think about what would happen if glitter had contaminated the work space).
Tumblr media
I’d used a paper cup for my mold walls, which usually works fine with fast-curing silicone. But the SiliNOT! must have a high oil content, because the cup absorbed some of it:
Tumblr media
Lesson learned; use only nonporous containers with this stuff.
The SiliNOT!! really wanted to cling to the edges of my original, so I had to go slow at first to avoid tearing the thin flanges of the mold off. However, it did demold nicely from the smooth surfaces, and preserved texture very well. You can see the Worbla pebbling and the engraving channels clearly in the mold (as well as some dust and dog hair, because I made the mistake of setting it down briefly):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, as you can see, a large bubble had stuck to my original and created a pit in the mold, so I decided to do a second mold pour. I figured I’d tear up the failed mold and put the pieces back in the bottle to remelt… and discovered I couldn’t. The mold would stretch and twist, but not tear. It also seemed to return to its original shape relatively faithfully. Here’s a video of me manhandling the mold:
As you can see, the SiliNOT! has much better stretch and recovery than many silicone products (there are silicones that stretch well -- some of the Dragon Skin products come to mind -- but they’re not typically marketed for moldmaking). This means it’s likely well suited to casting objects with moderate undercuts or oddly-shaped bits that need the mold to stretch during demolding.
You can cut the SiliNOT! easily with scissors, which is the recommended method for getting it back in the bottle when you’re ready to remelt.
Take Two
Using what I’d learned from the first pour, I did the second one inside a hard plastic ramekin. This gave me a bit more room to pour into the floor of the mold, reducing the bubble risk, and also eliminated the porous paper cup that had absorbed oil. I still had the issue with bubbles that didn’t want to pop, but there were fewer of them this time.
Tumblr media
The ramekin made for a much cleaner mold, buuuuut there was ANOTHER BUBBLE right in the middle of the design. >.<
Tumblr media
Take Three
Lather, rinse, repeat. Or in this case, melt, pour, chill.
This time I heated the SiliNOT! as much as I dared and did the absolute slowest, narrowest pour I could manage, giving the air extra time to escape as the mold was filled from the bottom. The risk with stringing out the pour like this is that in a thinner stream, the heat escapes faster, leading to uneven viscosity as the liquid fills the mold. I don’t think that’s a major problem for this particular piece, but it’s something to pay attention to as regards leveling and degassing, especially for larger molds that will take longer to fill.
The result of pour three:
Tumblr media
/siiiiigh/ Well, at least the bubbles are smaller, this time. They may not show up enough to matter in the final cast. I’ll give it a try.
Casting
I had leftover workshop resin that was getting on toward the end of its shelf life, so I used Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 300 for my initial resin trial. It’s an opaque white resin with about a 10-minute cure time (the fast turnaround is why we use it for workshops).
Before pouring, I had to do a little mold cleanup where the SiliNOT! had managed to sneak under the edge of the Worbla (I think I’d loosened the corner of the star from prying it out of so many molds), but since the SiliNOT! stretches so well, it was pretty easy to invert it to get little scissors down into the bottom of the depression.
For the first cast, I didn’t use anything but the resin in order to get a baseline. Ideally I’d like to cold cast or dye the resin so I don’t have to worry about paint chipping, but since I’m doing a trial here (and need multiple buttons anyway) I figured some plain white extras wouldn’t hurt.
So, my first cast…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
…smacked into a big problem, which I probably should have seen coming: The resin I’m using is a fast cure formula, which means it discharges a fair amount of heat as it's going through that rapid chemical reaction -- enough heat to melt the SiliNOT!, as it turned out. When I tried to demold it (after giving it a few extra minutes beyond label time to be sure it was done), the surface of the mold had melted to the resin and even embedded itself in a few places. It’s difficult to see the resin detail in the photos (my camera went into white balance panic mode with all the shades of white and blue), but you can see how pitted the formerly-smooth mold surface is.
In fairness to the SiliNOT!, the bottle does say that you should put the mold in the freezer for half an hour before casting high-temperature materials. But I assumed high-temperature material was something like candle wax or melted chocolate, rather than ordinary resin. (And the mold had just come out of the refrigerator.)
So, on to pour FOUR of the SiliNOT! mold…
Take Four
NGL, this is getting a little old. >.<
Fourth mold definitely needed some cleanup around the edges, and there are still a couple of tiny bubbles I can’t seem to get rid of, but it’s good enough for a test. (I’m starting to despair of using these for actual production, given how many times I’ve had to redo the molds because of bubbles...)
Tumblr media
Deep in the recesses of my basement, I found some transparent epoxy resin with a 24-hour cure time -- much slower and lower-temperature than the Smooth-Cast. Since it cures clear, I went ahead and mixed in some metallic powder pigment on the off chance that I get a usable button out of this one. I had excess resin after mixing, so I poured that into my first mold, which has a bubble in the design but is otherwise fine. Two test pieces are better than one, right?
Results
Here are the results of the slow-curing resin out of mold #4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, a (mostly) clean cast!
As you can see, the detail reproduction is excellent -- certainly on par with the pulls from the silicone mold I ended up making while waiting on this set to cure (purely for time reasons; I couldn’t afford five days to cast the buttons using slow-curing resin, and with a silicone mold and fast-curing resin I could get them all done within a couple of hours).
However, you can also see a few spots where bits of the SiliNOT! embedded themselves in the final cast. Part of that may be due to design flaw in the original; I didn’t want to glue anything permanently to the antique button, and that resulted in a tiny gap between the button and the resin hemisphere. Silicone has enough strength to resist tearing out in that kind of area, but apparently the SiliNOT! doesn’t. The bits of mold around the outer edge seem to have stuck just to be difficult, as there was no structural reason for those to have become embedded in the resin. This means the mold could be damaged by successive casts, reducing its usable life and accuracy.
Still, the mold definitely produced decent results for a first cast, and a different shape might not have had as much of a problem with tearing off mold parts. The slow-curing resin is a bit of a limitation, but not a unique one (I use this same epoxy resin for any glass-clear casts I do, and only use the Smooth-Cast 300 for opaque items or things I need very quickly). I don’t personally use UV resin, but I’d be curious to learn how it performs with the SiliNOT!
IN SUMMARY:
Here’s the TL;DR on SiliNOT!
Pros
Cost effectiveness. This is the most obvious advantage of SiliNOT! over silicone; it’s (theoretically) infinitely reusable, and even with natural attrition/inevitable contamination from use, you can likely get over a hundred pours out of a bottle. That's a lot cheaper per use than silicone.
Non-toxicity. SiliNOT! is touted as food contact-safe, so you don’t have to panic if you get it on your skin or kitchen counters. While platinum-cure silicone is also relatively harmless (some varieties are labeled for food or life casting), other common moldmaking materials such as tin-cure silicone or urethane are not. (NOTE: Since the company is very hush-hush about what actually makes up the SiliNOT! secret formula, I do not know if it might release any vapors or fumes that would be irritating or harmful to pet birds. In general, I advise not doing any kind of casting around birds.)
Eco-friendliness. This is the biggest draw for me personally: Given the number of casting workshops I run and all the things I sell commercially, I have constant guilt about the amount of waste I generate for creative projects. In most areas of life I’m an aggressive reduce/reuse/recycler and try to use organic materials instead of synthetics whenever possible, so a mold that’s reusable and compostable is very appealing.
Ease of use. It’s honestly pretty hard to mess this up -- just microwave according to the directions and pour. No measuring, no A/B mixture, no concerns about chemical contamination from latex or sulfur, etc.
Shelf life. Unlike silicones, which have a shelf life of anywhere from six months to three years depending on storage conditions, the SiliNOT! purports to be shelf-stable. It's compostable, so don’t bury it in your yard, but otherwise it appears that it could be kept on hand for years.
Cons
Bubbles. Honestly the most irritating thing about this stuff for me. I’m used to being able to see bubbles forming as I pour, tap them to the surface, and remove them. The fact that I poured four molds of the same object and never once got one without bubbles is super irritating.
Stickiness. I’m not a big fan of the tacky surface texture, and while I haven’t done any cold casting yet, I can imagine that it would be very difficult to clean out any pigment or mica powder that got where you didn’t want it. I probably wouldn’t use this for any kind of cold casting that required isolated colored areas or changing colors between casts.
Set time. The SiliNOT! may take longer to cool than a fast silicone would to cure when dealing with larger molds, so it’s not ideal for projects with a really tight turnaround. (But cosplayers would never be casting something the night before a con, right? We always plan ahead and never, ever procrastinate!)
Library life. The SiliNOT! may or may not structurally degrade over time the way urethane, latex, and tin cure silicones do, but I noticed even in my very limited casts that it was prone to having tiny bits of the mold (particularly at edges) stick and pull off. While I keep most of my platinum silicone molds for years and reuse them, I don’t feel that the SiliNOT! molds would hold up to repeated casting, and they’re far more sensitive to ambient temperature, so they’re probably best used for short term only. (I also wonder about the possibility of oil leaching out in long-term storage.)
Comparative Ranking
Ranking it against other mold-making materials, I’d place SiliNOT! below platinum-cure silicone in terms of performance, but maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of urethane and tin-cure silicone. It's definitely superior to latex. (Though to be honest, I'd rank Play-Doh above latex. I hate working with that stuff.)
Factoring in cost and environmental impact, it beats out urethane and tin-cure silicone. I'm still not sure if I'd rank it above platinum-cure silicone, though... Silicone costs much more and isn't eco-friendly, but the performance and lifespan is significantly better, so it still makes more sense for some projects.
Alginate is another type of material entirely, but in some ways SiliNOT! is comparable to it -- both are more cost-effective than silicone, both are biodegradable, both are skin safe, and both have long shelf lives. But SiliNOT! is easier to use for beginners than alginate, which has to be mixed to the right consistency and has an extremely short lifespan once poured.
Overall, I would recommend SiliNOT! for:
People who want accurate, non-shrinking molds but don’t have the budget for platinum-cure silicone
People who are committed to eliminating waste from single-use materials, and are willing to trade off a little performance for a more eco-friendly material
Projects with smooth surfaces and no indentations/sharp edges/undercuts where bubbles might stick (e.g. cabochons; simple geometric forms)
Projects where you need only one or two casts of something, rather than many casts from the same mold
Casting oddly-shaped pieces around which the mold needs to stretch in order to demold
Use with slow-curing resins that do not generate much heat
I would NOT recommend SiliNOT! for:
Extremely complex or detailed pieces, or pieces with a lot of surface texture that bubbles might stick to
Two-part molds
Projects requiring many identical casts out of the same mold
Molds that you intend to add to your library for future or repeat casting
Use with fast-curing resins, melted wax, melted Monster Clay, or any other material that emits heat
Cold casting with precise color application
My Overall Opinion
It's... okay? I will almost certainly keep SiliNOT! in my toolkit for certain specific applications. It's MUCH cheaper over the long term, I love the idea of recycling mold material, and there are some projects for which it will likely perform very well (those listed in the above bullet points). I will also admit that three days of working with it does not constitute a comprehensive familiarity with the product, and it might be the sort of thing that you get better at working with after more practice. (Just learning how to eliminate bubbles would go a long way toward making me adopt this for more projects!)
However, I don't quite buy the "better than silicone" tagline. It's definitely more difficult to get a perfect result, and there are some projects for which platinum-cure silicone is always going to be more reliable (e.g. high-temperature casting, mass production, large-scale life casting).
For those looking for a recommendation of whether or not to buy, I'd say look at your project budget and the applications for which you're going to be making molds, and let those factors guide which mold material you go with. People doing some kinds of projects are likely going to find this a godsend, while those doing different projects would probably hate working with it.

PPE: Hand Protection
Most work in the laboratory involves the use of hands and gloves are mandatory in many environments and organizations, but the choice of hand protection is crucial. While thicker gloves may offer more protection, they can reduce dexterity and create more risks when doing tasks that require finesse. They length of time the gloves will be worn should also be considered. When dealing with chemicals, it is important to consult proper sources, as different chemicals react differently to different glove materials.
Nitrile, disposable, gloves are among the most commonly used when working with chemicals, but most other gloves are non-disposable. Cut resistant gloves can be used when working with sharps, and flame resistant gloves should be used during hot work. There are also rubber gloves for more reactive chemicals and cryogenic gloves for working with liquid nitrogen and similar materials. As with any PPE, maintenance is key: gloves with holes or rips should not be used and disposal gloves should be removed and replaced if they come in contact with chemicals. Some situations may require the use of more than one kind of glove, or double gloving.

A Slave For You
Chapter 5
Leila's life was very normal. She had everything she wanted, a nice house, car, and all the money she could ever ask for. She was a rich girl and lived her life doing nothing but shopping and spending money. However her life changed when on her way home from a night out she was kidnapped by human traffickers and sent to the slave market in New York City where she finds herself being brought by one of the most dangerous mob bosses of Brooklyn, James Buchanan Barnes
Tumblr media
Leila was glad she was upstairs working while James was downstairs in his office. At least she could hide away and spend less time in his presence, having to remember her manners and etiquette around him, making sure to address him as sir, and resisting the urge to disobey him and his orders. At least she could have a moment to herself to come to terms with everything going on and accept that this was her new life. She was dreading the thought of having to clean all these rooms in this mansion, but now she was relieved. What scared her more was the physical service she was going to have to display to James—to serve him as a slave to his desires.
She was up in one of the bathrooms, scowering the bathtub and tap, rubbing away the dirt that had built up around the sides, and washing it down the drain. She had found a pair of yellow rubber gloves that fitted perfectly over her hands while she cleaned, so her fingers wouldn't wrinkle from the steaming water in the large bucket beside her. The strong smell of bleach was beginning to make her feel woozy and light-headed, but she powdered through. She didn't want to pass out and be punished by James.
She made it her goal to never receive a punishment from him. She had only known him for a day and a half now, and she was sure there was more to be uncovered. She was certain that there was some deep sadistic side of him deep down that he hadn't yet shown. or perhaps not. Perhaps he wasn't as cruel as she thought he might be. He made it clear that punishment wasn't off the table and that he would reinitiate it if he needed to, but what punishment? She didn't know.
Her knees were starting to ache from kneeling on the tiled floor, and her maid's outfit was soaked in water and soap. The strong chemical smell was reaking on her skin. She had scrubbed the floor, bringing up the tiles to a beautiful shine, and the bathroom was sparkling. The silver taps showed a clear reflection, and the tub was shining a bright white. It was a huge bathroom, with a bath tub across one side of the room and tiled steps leading to it. The sink was huge, covering nearly the whole of the countertop with a huge mirror in front. There were cabinets underneath and shelves on either side. On the other side was a wet room with glass doors in the shape of a hexagon. It was very posh.
The towels were neatly stacked upon each other in three separate compartments on one of the shelves, a set for each of the guys. Leila wondered if and when she could have a shower and if she had to ask for permission. She was already feeling dirty from living in that tiny cage for a week, and now the stench of chemicals and spray was embedded in her skin, creating a thick layer on top of her, and she wanted to wash it off badly. but she might as well wait until she had finished her duties.
Looking back at the bathroom, she was pleased with her progress and grabbed her supplies, heading to the next room.
The boys rooms weren't as bad as she thought. She expected them to be pigsty, stinking of beer and sweat, and with clothes littering the ground. Luckily, they were a little more dignified than that, but still dirty. She placed the dirty laundry in the laundry basket, which she would pick up later, and set about cleaning the surfaces, making the beds, and putting away some clothes that looked ironed already. A nervous feeling came over her when she opened up the closets and drawers, hoping that she wouldn't be punished for doing so. She didn't want it to look like she was snooping.
Luckily, they didn't take as long as she thought, and she moved on to James's room, the one she was dreading the most. She was dreading it because it seemed like he was a perfectionist. She didn't want to snoop or get caught doing something she possibly shouldn't be doing, and she didn't want to move anything out of its place to warrant a punishment. She decided to do the bathroom first to start off easy. His ensuite was just as big as the bathroom down the hall, only this time it was a sandy brown rather than white. A robe hung on the back of the door in the bathroom, lingering with James's scent, and she couldn't help but breathe it in as she neared it.
His bathroom was just as neat and tidy as his bedroom, with perfectly stacked towels and shower gels, a razor, toothbrush, and paste all sitting neatly in a glass cup, and a couple bottles of Colgate sitting on the side. Leila had the urge to pick one up and smell it, wondering what the golden liquid inside smelled like. She picked it up, sniffing the spray, and a rich, woody scent filled the air with notes of mint. It was beautiful, and she imagines James wearing it. It was better than having an ugly, sweaty, smelly master. She put it back down. The scent wouldn't leave her as she ventured into the bedroom.
She made his bed, smoothing out the sheets, and another rich scent was there in the pillows—not as overpowering as the one she had spritzed, but she could smell it. It was like a drug taking over, and she tried to ignore it. As she cleaned, the collar rubbed against her neck, a constant reminder of who she was now and who she belonged to. She found herself tugging and pulling at it to catch her breath before it strangled her once again.
It was irritating, and she sighed heavily. A thought came over her. She wondered if the keys to the collar were here, in his bedroom. She couldn't help but open every drawer in his room, searching through the bedside table and the chest of drawers opposite the bed to look for a key. It was naughty of her, dangerous even, and if James caught her snooping, she'd be in big trouble. But the idea of knowing if the key was here or not was too tempting for her, and as she ruffled through his things, she started to lose luck in finding it.
She was sitting beside the bed, having a good search on the bedside table, when a creak of floorboards suddenly sounded, and she shoved the door shut just in time for James to appear in the doorway, standing tall and dominantly. A sharp squeak left her lips as she quickly turned to face him, her heart slamming in her chest as she had already been caught. James slightly raised his brow, his eyes narrowing a little as he slowly padded into his bedroom.
"What are you doing?" he asked softly. She had a look of mischief, and she swallowed hard, scrambling from the floor.
"Nothing. I mean, I was just doing the bed." She smiled nervously, trying to pass off her bed behaviour as well as possible, and James hummed, smiling in delight as he looked around the room. He was impressed. He hadn't seen it this clean since the last maid, and he was expecting this every day.
"Very good, I'm impressed," he smiled and even looked in the bathroom. He was just as pleased with it. Leila watched with her hands clasped together in front of her, waiting for his next move. As he stood at the doorway to the bathroom, he sniffed, sniffing the air as if he were trying to work out the scent. He knew it was one of his colognes. but it was intense, as if someone had sprayed it. He glanced back at Leila but didn't say anything. Had she been spraying his cologne? And why? He wondered, and it made him smirk, wondering if she wanted to know what his scent was.
"It looks good," he said as he saunted over to her, arms swinging lazily by his sides as he easily towered over her.
"Thank you, sir," she remembered to add, and James's cock went hard under his tight dress pants, tingling to the tip of his head. He softly growled under his breath at the way she said, Sir, it falling off her tongue with her quiet voice and her eyes lighting up to meet his dark ones, long lashes and parted lips teasing him. He had to hold himself back from grabbing her and throwing her into the bed, ripping her pants off, and fucking her. She was new and still had duties to complete. Until then, he was going to keep his hands off her, and if he was still pleased by the end of the night, he'd give her a reward.
"How much have you got left to do?" He asked, his hand trailing up to her neck and reaching around to the back of it, fingers curling up in her hair, and he moved her head back to expose her neck. Just because he wasn't going to fuck her yet didn't mean he couldn't have some fun. Why was he being fragile with her when she's his slave, to do what he wants, when he wants?
"I just have the la-laundry to do," she gasped as he pulled her head back suddenly, her mouth opening wide from the sudden pull, and she nearly lost her balance in the heels. She was used to wearing heels, even ones bigger than these, but his touch was so distracting. With him towering over her, her neck craned back even further as she stared up into his intimating eyes, her heart thumping with nerves and stomach tighening. She was getting sweaty, and she tried to keep her balance. Her front was pressed into his as he leaned closer, arching her back, and she swallowed, the collar bobbling on her neck.
"Mmmm, good girl," his other hand began to trail up her stomach, two fingers walking their way up to her breasts, leaping from her uniform to her skin, and walked up her neck all the way to her lips. His index finger dragged down her bottom lip, bearing her teeth; a small breath escaped as the pad of his finger pressed there. She was fucking beautiful like this, all hot, bothered, and stunned. Her wide eyes and small breaths were turning James on, and he couldn't wait to have her on his knees for him tonight.
She didn't dare move as he lightly touched her face, dragging his finger over her jaw line as if he were inspecting her closely, his eyes darkening over her. James hummed in pleasure and slowly released his grip on her. He sorted her hair out, throwing some strands over her shoulders, and smoothed out her uniform. How could he just touch her like that and get her so deshevilled and messy? Leila didn't take her eyes off him, and he stepped back with a smirk in the corner of his lips.
"Come find me when you've done the laundry," he said simply, making his way out.
"Yes, sir," Leila said bashfully, hanging her head down; her lips still parted as he left, and she took a deep breath. Her body was tingling with all sorts of feelings: nerves, excitement, and confusion, and she wiped her sweaty hands on her uniform, gathering herself together to complete her duties.

Thaumcraft moved on from wands in Tc6, so I wanted to do some service to the various 'casting gauntlets' added by it and some of the addons to it.
Casting Gauntlet "A more modern interpretation of Auromantic manipulation tools, the Caster's gauntlet is built off of studies into the nature of vis in its natural, primal state itself, and how best to harness it without exploiting and potentially destroying the natural sources of aura. thus endangering the balance of the local environment. Initial studies into this topic came from the properties of both the sojourner's wand cap, and the amber wand core. The design of the Gauntlet includes an energized amber lens for the drawing in of vis directly from the local environment, while the ergonomic and practical 'glove' design allows for more direct manipulation of vis as if it were an object one could wield. Some would say this is like reinventing the wheel, and they could very well be right. The iron used in its construction is prone to corrosion through extended use, and personally I would not trust a thin sheet of leather to protect me from all matter of spells that these devices can sling. This is a prototype to eventually be replaced." (Do I reaaaally need to say where its from? -.-)
Silver Plated Casting Gauntlet “Building off of the original design, changing out some fittings with more arcanely aligned metals such as gold and silver provides a slight boost in efficiency, and greatly reduces wear and tear from channeling.” (Not based off of anything actually, but I feel this would be a logical next step for base thaumcraft.)
Thaumium Casting Gauntlet “The charged thaumium that makes up this gauntlet’s build has twofold uses, it both allows for a greatly more efficient channeling tool, and a great bludgeon when vis is not so available. Unfortunately, the nature of thaumium means that its channeling ability degrades with wear and tear, though fortunately not nearly as fast as thaumium wands would.” (Based on Thaumic Revelation’s addition to the CG formula. A greatly appreciated addition tbh)
Elarium Casting Gauntlet “This extremely gaudy tool can directly channel psionic energies into more vis, and it greatly improves the users mechanical ability over the tidal forces of this world. Directly applying so much elarium to oneself however can have some damaging effects on the psyche. Just like with Elarium caps, there are much better uses for the substance than this…” (Not really based on anything, I just wanted to expand the repertoire a bit. This one is more worldbuilding than game design)
Alchemist’s Casting Gauntlet “New. Improved. With 30% more alchemy. This gauntlet is perfect for a burgeoning alchemist, with its highly durable materials, heat and chemical resistant lining, as well as inbuilt pipe management tools, it is a great deal! You can even pump certain essentia into it for a variety of boosts to its efficiency, power, or the like.” (Not really based on anything, I just wanted to expand the repertoire a bit.)
Voidseer’s Casting Gauntlet “It was only logical to take the next step from Thaumium, developing a gauntlet made from both voidmetal and shadowmetal would ensure its survivability long after other gauntlets would be worn out. Its Voidmetal build also allows it to draw in aura faster and more efficiently. It even allows for further tinkering, especially with forces of pure vis harvested from the warp itself, colloquially known as Impetus.” (Based on the Voidmetal gauntlet from Thaumic Augmentation.)
NovaCorp™️ Casting Gauntlet “The latest in aural manipulation and the field of aspectual science as a whole, the Casting Gauntlet (sponsored by NovaCorp™️) will revolutionize how you go about your daily lives! By pulling Aura directly out of the local region into its internal reservoir, it will pretty much always* remain charged! Manipulate arcana! Throw fireballs! Protective Outfit, Toxicological, Microclimate-Controlled (POTMC)
Intended for chemical munitions handling and stockpile inspection. Very small amount of these were made in the early to mid 1980's.
This example is in fair, but incredibly incomplete condition, missing the outer fire-resistant coveralls, the gloves, the boots, the microclimate liner, the M46 CB Filter, and the Ventilator Pack assembly (among other things, I'm sure).

Hopefully @bureau-of-mines and I can locate most, if not all of these components down the road.
