Song Title Challenge - but with anisong!
So, a challenge popped up in my Facebook memories on Wednesday – match categories to song titles.  Back then, for my not anime fan friends, it was all was (for lack of a better term) normal music.  I talked about going back and redoing it with anime music…  But until today, I never did. So, hit the jump and let’s take the challenge!  (And you can join in!) Continue reading Untitled

Cop Craft Review Episode 3
Cop Craft Review Episode 3 - Finding Faires
Finding Fairies Cop Craft Episode 3 I know saying that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts is a little bit trite particularly when that means there are some parts that aren’t so great, and yet it is apt in this instance. Cop Craft is treading fairly familiar territory to those who have watched many buddy-cop type movies and shows over the years and the inclusion of fairies isn’t…

chase the moon like fire ; leon kennedy / reader
Tumblr media
and i'm just a stupid motherfucker, can't figure it out
[falling in love, brief mention of masturbation, slight sexual tension]
please consider supporting my ao3!
“So, you in love?” It’s a question, but the answer isn’t so simple. Ada’s voice is velvety smooth and articulate in the way she speaks. It used to send a shiver down his spine when he heard it, but now it only served as a haunting tune. He leveled his gaze with her; eyebrows furrowed with skepticism. Though in his head he was digging deep down into his memories attempting to pinpoint the truth to her inquiry. She has been watching them for some time during their mission. Ada was ever the observant type and always knew exactly how to read him no matter how guarded he was. Leon thought back— way back, in fact— to the first time he laid eyes on you. Circa 2003, partnered for an infiltration mission on a small lab in Italy that ex-Umbrella employees created to continue their research.
There was something daring in your smile, but your eyes were kind and warm. With all the experience of a federal agent, you were still a girl. There was a gentle sweet scent that followed you as you walked past him through the office and you were always excited to show him your nails even if there was a chance you’d have to remove them before a surprise mission. You were a witness to unimaginable horrors beyond your comprehension, but sunshine followed you in your wake regardless. All the pink, sparkly pens and cute animal charms on your bag were an effort to live in normalcy. You were overcompensating, but so was he in a way.
There was a particular late night in the office where he caught his first glimpse into the person truly you.
“What were you going to be before all this?” Leon narrowed his eyes towards you across his desk. Your head was being supported by your hands while you tilted your head awaiting his answer.
Leon’s attention reverted back to the paperwork on his desk, “Just a cop.”
“Just a cop, hm?” It was playful and syrupy; almost childish, yet endearing all the same. He feigned disinterest, but you didn’t miss the amused tinkle in his eyes.
“Don’t you have your own desk?” He inquired with his gaze still to his documents.
“Yeah, but we’re the only two people still in the office. I wanted company.” You leaned back in your seat, stretching out your shoulders with a few minor pops.
“Who’s to say I wanted company?” Leon looked up at you and you almost missed the smile ghosting his lips.
“Well, I thought about that, but I didn’t actually care.” You shrugged your shoulders and leaned forward once more to skim through your report. Leon took a moment to study your face. You weren’t exactly the kind of person he would’ve guessed was an agent. He had met many women in this line of work and you reminded him of a few. Chris at one point even mentioned how you had this gentle warmth to you that Rebecca also had. And there were stars in your eyes glimmering against the light of his desk lamp. He wondered how much you bottled up within you and the sheer weight you carried on your heart. He was much more hardened than you with skills outside of your own experience.
Leon signed, “What did you want to be?” He would play along.
Your face lit up, eyes perking up underneath dark lashes. His question was met with a moment of silence while you pondered over it.
“I wanted to be…” Her voice drifted off to somewhere far from them. She stared down at her pen, mindlessly clicking the tip in and out as she tapped the butt of his repeatedly against the surface of his desk. Then something unfamiliar to him. It was hardly noticeable and easy to dismiss, but he caught a hint of something melancholic flashing in her eyes. The sparkle in them he found comforting dulled the slightest bit. Your lips pursed in deep thought. You weren’t easy to read, actually, quite the opposite. Your cheerful demeanor was well crafted from years of hardship. He hadn’t taken note of it before but there was tension in your shoulders that always seemed to exist. Fidgeting was a usual occurrence for you as well and he caught you tapping your foot or messing with your earrings several times throughout the day. Coworkers remarked on how you seemed lost in the clouds with that dreamy expression glossing over your eyes, but he began to question the contents of said daydreams. He often found himself with the same look whenever he got lost in a fantasy of saving all that was lost those few years ago. All the things he would do differently, the things he didn’t do that he would in a heartbeat now. And it hit him like a train that you were just as haunted.
“You don’t have to answer.” It sounded a bit more timid than he intended, cracking into a sort of whisper towards the tail end of his sentence as if he was unsure that was the correct thing to say.
“It’s not that I don’t want to. I wanted to do so many things, but I don’t think they were in my cards. Maybe…something with animals?” You leaned back once more and slapped your palms down onto the hardwood desk, “I’d take barista over this, too, though.”
His response was awkward and lacklust in emotion with a simple hum of acknowledgement. Your cheeks were lightly dusted pink which he figured was probably because it was a little warm in the office. But, you also revoked eye contact and focused on anything but his face.
“Didn’t plan your future? Thought girls loved that stuff.” He huffed a minor laugh, getting back to writing his report. It was just an update on his current case before he would be sent to the field for investigation. This portion required some work with Hunnigan and recanting all she’d relay to him.
“What a weird thing to say…” You murmured, “I just didn’t plan further than eighteen.”
His gaze lifted to your face and there was a brief dark look in your eyes. It was as quick as lightning, flashing in and out before he even had time to register it. Leon did not know whether to ask you to elaborate or leave it be. You didn’t give him a chance before you stood up with your own paperwork stuffed snug in a manila folder. Your voice filled the silence once more before you slipped out his doorway, “Girls love a lot of things, Leon. But none of it is universal.”
Then you disappeared in the dark corridor. Usually his strange, oddly forward comments were ignored. He wouldn’t even register anything he said as strange until after by someone else. Maybe that had become one of his favorite things about you; the way you voiced your distaste for his dumb little jokes and awkward assumptions. It wasn’t malicious, it was amusing to you, too, but you weren’t afraid. His status didn’t intimidate you. Nothing about him made you uneasy. You just thought he was weird and he liked it.
“That’s the way you wanna end our conversation, Ada?” He dodged answering with ease, but Ada’s eyes narrowed with suspicion. He couldn’t hide the truth from her. The mere mention of your name lit a flame behind his eyes that she had thought long snuffed out. It was the same flame he used to admire her with back in Raccoon City. Underneath that hardened facade was the same young man she encountered beneath the RPD. The years had changed them, but not significantly. She was ever married to her job and he will always be full of light and love despite it all.
“I’m only being friendly, no need to be defensive. Though, it does say more about you than me.” Her smirk was slight, barely there, but Leon tensed the slightest bit. She walked until her back was turned to him, facing the window while she pulled out her grappling hook.
“She gave me that same look.” Was the last thing she said before she disappeared above, leaving the curtains flapping in the winds behind her. Leon picked up his gun and studied it, but his mind was elsewhere.
“Leon.”
He jumped, turning his head slightly to look at you, “Thought you’d be here.”
You smiled, but it didn’t quite reach your eyes. Leon admired the maroon slip dress you adorned and paired with black ankle strap block heels. Your hair was delicately styled just as he expected with beautiful hoop earrings hanging by your lobes. He turned to look out the balcony with a glass of whiskey on ice in his hand. You joined him by the railing leaning against it and admiring the way the stars painted the sky. The moon was nowhere to be found and awaiting its bloomage that would soon begin once more. Leon glanced at your hands— coffin shaped nails with an elegant floral design and matte finish. He had thoughts about them before, how they’d feel running down his back and scratching his scalp. They’d creep up on him most nights after bidding you farewell. He was quick to shake them away, but here they were enticing him once more.
“And I didn’t think I’d see you here. Don’t seem like a banquet type of guy.” Which you were correct. He nearly skipped out this evening, but then he overheard your excited chatter about an evening dressed out and seeing your workplace friends. It was a calculated move on gaining your attention for the night. Something he craved frequently from you; more frequently than he was comfortable with. Leon knew why, but he refused admittance.
“Eh, I was asked which basically means it’s an expectation.” Technically not a lie, but he did have a choice. That choice was just null when he learned of your attendance.
“Wow, must be rough being the President’s favorite.” You giggled, a sound which caused his heart to leap. It was an enchanting melody he wished to relive over and over again if possible.
“You have no idea…” Leon tipped his cup to his lips, taking a sip from his beverage.
“Leon, you look tired.” You quipped, turning your body slightly to face him. He nearly choked on his drink at your sudden statement.
“I look like this all the time.” He scoffed, nodding his drink in your direction.
You roll your eyes and press your lips into a firm line, “Even worse than usual. Have you been sleeping?”
He was still. It was coming up to the anniversary of the Raccoon City incident and many of his recent nights were sleepless. Sleepless nights meant he had room to think then overnight then silently seethe. The anger he held towards himself was impalpable. Some evenings he couldn’t decide if he should punch his wall or quietly weep into his pillow. Then there were nights where he just wanted his mind off it all. He wanted some moments of peace and images of you crossed his brain. Some sultry, some average. All brought him to a climax where his head turned to mush.
“I don’t get much this time of year. Must be the weather.” He mumbled, sipping his whiskey again.
You tilt your head slightly with furrowed brows. He didn’t want to look at you because if he did he would kiss you if it meant you stopped looking at him the way you were. Looking at him like he was worth more than his failures, like he deserved more. It would cause his chest to ache and his knees to go weak. He’d have to capture your lips in his, but that was a risk. A risk that led to a risk. It was all too much. However, in his peripherals, you held your eyes on him. He could make out the way the balcony wall lamp reflected light off your glossy lips; the iridescent shimmer sparkling against warm tones. And your lashes, oh your lashes, dark and long with fluttering like butterfly wings with every blink. They highlighted your eyes, creating an alluring appeal to them. You were breathtaking in ways words could not describe. Aphrodite had blessed you, surely.
“Yeah, the weather.” Was your only response as you looked away from him and gazed down at the neatly trimmed garden hedges below. He wanted you to look at him again, but that’d be yet another risk. One he wasn’t prepared of the consequences for still. Perhaps the moon hid tonight because her beauty could not compare to yours. She shied behind Earth’s shadow because there was no competition to be had. You outshined all the stars in the sky with a glimpse of your goddesshood. His fingertips itched to caress the supple flesh of your rosy cheeks. Leon wished to place soft kisses along your neck and hear the sighs which you emanate from your throat.
But he didn’t. You both remain on the balcony in a comfortable silence. That night, Leon had to admit something he wasn’t ready to. The glaringly obvious truth he wanted not a single soul to unveil. It was a secret of his own, one he held near and dear to his heart.
“You never answered my question.” Ada glanced back at him expectantly. If it were not for her firm, booming voice above the helicopter, he would have easily missed it. Leon found himself voiceless once more, but only for a mere moment. He watched her study him and he knew there was no use denying it any longer. So, you in love?
He wanted to laugh. Of course she would be the one to call him out for it. Ada was nothing but skilled in the art of deduction. His thoughts briefly flashback to Ashley. You had probably gone up to meet her already to check on her wellbeing. Then he turned his attention back to the topic at hand. She didn’t want to have to guess, she wanted to hear it.
“More than I’d like to admit.” He called out, stepping back slightly in preparation for his trek back to his two companions. Ada’s expression was unmoving and unreadable. She simply held eye contact for a few seconds before making her way to her escape. He didn’t say it, but she heard it under his tone. And I’m scared.

LARRY AND LAWRIE HEADCANNONS #2!!
Because holy crap the first one got so much positive attention- (again, headcannons after cut cuz I’m gonna yap for a sec)
Tumblr media
Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the first one! It’s my most popular post ever and I’m glad it was so well received. I really hope this is a good follow up! Feel free to let me know if you want more Brawl Stars headcannons going forward cuz I’d be happy to make them.
Anyway it’s finally headcannon time!
Larry focused, Lawrie focused, Both
Tumblr media
• Larry’s favorite music genre is literally elevator music (Lawrie likes rock!)
•Both of them hate the Cops theme song, they think it’s very annoying. Doesn’t help that park guest and other brawlers (*cough* Nita and Leon *cough*) tease them with it
• At first, Lawrie didn’t let Larry have a weapon since “they’re dangerous and you don’t need one” but Larry managed to craft his ticket wheel into an explosive weapon somehow and Lawrie was just too afraid/impressed to not let him have it
•They both live in the park’s security station. Specifically, Larry took an unused storage closet and made it into an actual little bedroom, while Lawrie just sleeps in their office (if they sleep at all)
•Lawrie collects bobble heads. They make him smile
•Larry really likes baking! Not to eat the sweet treats (since he can’t even if he wanted to), but he just loves the process of making them. He often bakes cookies with Pearl
•He has no clue that Pearl is related to the Gold Arm Gang somehow. They’ve seen her with them but it just somehow has never clicked and probably never will
•Lawrie does know, but they just think Pearl is harmless enough. The second any other Gold Arm member even gets close to Larry though, they’re ready to strike
•Larry is a hypochondriac even though he can’t even get sick. Lawrie is kinda similar, but they’re just a neat-freak. Either way, everywhere the two go is getting deep cleaned and disinfected
•Lawrie gets a ton of coloring books for R-T since they see R-T as like a little kid and don’t know what else to get them.
•Larry is really good at engineering, and makes elaborate “mouse trap” like contraptions to try and catch criminals. They also make little mini robots! Those don’t have any consciousness but he treat they like his children all the same
•Lawrie pretends they don’t like the little robots, but they will protect those little guys with their life if they have to
•Lawrie’s idea of “fun” is challenging Larry to little games that test their knowledge on all the parks rules (Don’t worry cuz Larry thinks it’s fun too)
•If you bring it up to them, both Larry and Lawrie the living embodiments of anti-smoking/drinking/gambling ads
•People will often sneak up behind Larry and put stickers on them to poke fun at him. He never notices until Lawrie takes them off. He keeps them in a sticker book because they think it means people like him
•No one puts any stickers on Lawrie because he’s just impossible to sneak up on and will punch someone if they try
•They own a cat! Larry found a little Calico kitten and went annoying little brother mode until Lawrie agreed to keep it
•Lawrie hated the idea of having an animal around, but much like a middle aged dad they’re now the one who spoils the cat the most
Tumblr media
That’s it for now! Hope you liked it and thanks for reading this!! Again, show some love if you’d like more!

Tumblr media
Jake felt like he was on the verge of having the cops called on him, as he parked outside of the elementary school. He told himself that he, like the other parents waiting in the parking lot, were here to see someone important. Although, he was waiting on a snot nosed child to come running towards them. That’s one thing Jake couldn’t stand, was the germs that kids carried. He had seen his sisters deal with all sorts of bodily fluids that came from their children whether it be blood or snot or vomit. Jake cringed at the thought of having to clean up someone else's vomit. It was bad enough back in flight school he had to clean his own out of his jet when he’d get sick.
He regained his composure as he heard the school bell ring, and an influx of children ran out the front door. It was like a sea of tiny humans charging right at him, not caring for the large vehicles in the area. It gave Jake a heart attack, seeing some of them dart right out in front of cars, not caring to look but getting scolded by their parents. Jake couldn’t even imagine how terrifying it must be to be a parent and how stressful it must be to constantly worry about their safety. His green eyes looked at the school, it seemed pretty secure, like a safe place to be at. But he shook his head as he pushed off of his Mercedes, no place was safe in a world like it is today.
Jake could feel the stares of kids, parents and some teachers as he walked down the hallway of the school. He was still in his khaki uniform, and something he knew would get him some eyes. Jake knew that he was a handsome man; women loved to look at him, men envied him, and kids dreamed of being like him.
“Mommy, look! He’s in the Navy!” A little boy said, pulling on his mom’s dress.
“Uh-huh,” She nodded, dazed by Jake’s beauty. Jake smirked at her, giving her a wink as he continued down the hall.
Your room was easy to find (thanks to asking another teacher in the hall), and Jake smiled at the door decorations. It was very much you, and Jake could tell that you probably took the time to cut out each individual animal that was taped to the wall. He could remember coming home from work and seeing the dining room table covered in arts and crafts things, and you working on creating something for your classroom. He missed those nights and days where he’d spend helping you set up your room or putting up some new decorations.
You were sitting at your desk munching on a granola bar and looking over tomorrow's lesson plan. You were starting to introduce chapter books to your second graders, and were going to introduce them to the wonderful book that was ‘Flat Stanely’. You sighed and leaned back in your chair, your mind thinking of how the rest of the school year was going to go for you. Sooner or later you were going to have to tell your kiddos that you were pregnant, and you weren’t all too ready for the questions that would follow. You had learned over the years that second graders are very curious little humans, almost too curious for their own good. You had been rehearsing in your head what you would say to them.
You’d be able to work the rest of the school year, since the baby wasn’t going to be due until July. But what did break your heart was the fact that you wouldn’t be able to start your school year, due to being on maternity leave. You loved the beginning of the school year. It was your equivalent to Christmas Morning, seeing all the new students, getting new supplies, seeing the new fashion trends. And of course, seeing how much your old students grew over the summer. It always warmed your heart when they’d see you in the hallway and come running up to you to hug you. You smiled, sitting up and looking at the card that your very first class had sent you with when you told them you were leaving Lemoore.
“Miss Kazansky?” A knock came from your door and you closed your eyes. Now this conversation, you hadn’t rehearsed at all.
“Mr. Seresin,” You replied, turning towards him, “Why are you here?”
“Ouch, nice to see you too,” Jake said, and walked into your classroom. He looked over your decorations, “I always thought these turkey decorations were cute,” He pointed to the construction paper turkey that was on your bulletin board, “Flat Stanley? Behind on-”
“Jake, why are you here?” You asked, cutting him off.
“Because we need to talk,” He said, turning to face you.
“No, we don’t,” You said, “There is nothing to talk about.”
“Really?” Jake scoffed, “Cause Rooster says otherwise.”
“The hell are you talking to Rooster about me for?”
“Are you-”
“Miss K?” A small voice said. You looked past Jake and saw one of your students, Owen, standing in the doorway, tears running down his face. Your heart dropped as you pushed past Jake and over to the little boy. One thing you hated was seeing your students cry.
“What’s up, Owen?” You asked, kneeling down to his level.
“My mom isn’t here,” He sniffled, “I-I think she forgot me.”
“Oh that’s nonsense!” You smiled, “No one would forget you. Is she working today?” Owen nodded, “Well, wait in here for a moment, and I’ll give her a call, alright?” Owen again nodded and walked over to his desk, “Do you want a snack?”
“I can’t have peanut butter, I’m allergic,” Owen said, “Can I read a book?”
“Sure thing,” You said, and walked over to your snack drawer, which has become your favorite part of your desk as of late, “How does. . . a rice krispy sound?”
“Great Miss K!” Owen smiled and you tossed it to him.
Jake watched the interaction between the two of you, his heart warming a bit at the sight. You were always so caring, it was probably something that made him fall so in love with you. You had a totally different side to you when you were in teacher mode, as he liked to call it. It was amazing to see how you could go from this spitfire person, to a down to earth, soft spoken woman.
“Can I help you?” You said, looking over at Jake.
“I can wait,” Jake said. You rolled your eyes and looked through your student records on your computer, “This happen a lot with him?”
“His mother is a single mom who works at the children's hospital on the NICU floor,” You answered, “She also takes care of her grandmother. She’s a hard working woman. She doesn’t just forget her child.”
“Oh, I-I’m not trying to offend her,” Jake said, noticing your defensive tone, “I was just wondering.”
“Not all of us have the luxury of working an eight-to-four, Jacob,” You said, picking up the phone on your desk and dialing the number. Jake bit his cheek as he looked over at the little boy reading to himself and eating away on his rice krispy. Owen kind of reminded Jake of Bob. He was smaller, Jake could hardly believe he was in your class when he walked in. He also had glasses that were a bit too big for his face, but in an adorable way. His cheeks were still a bit red from the tears, and every so often Jake would hear a sniffle.
Jake looked around the room, as you were talking with Owen’s mom, and looked for the kleenex box. Jake grabbed the box and walked over to the boy, holding it out for him. Owen shyly looked up at the pilot and smiled.
“Thank you, sir,” Owen said, taking a tissue.
“What are you reading?” Jake asked, nodding to the cover.
“Oh, ‘The Magic Tree House’!” Owen smiled, showing him the cover.
Jake squinted reading the cover, “‘The Magic Tree House, Danger at the Darkest Hour’, interesting. About World War Two?”
“Mhm, it’s about the paratroopers going into Normandy,” Owen said, “I wanna be in the Navy some day.”
Jake smiled, “Really? Well, I’m in the Navy,” Jake pulled one of the small chairs from another desk and sat down in front of a very wide eyed Owen.
“Miss Kazansky?” The woman on the phone said.
“Oh sorry,” You said, looking away from the cute sight in front of you, “Yes, I can stick around another ten minutes or so.”
“Thank you so much. I thought I coordinated this all with Owen’s dad.”
“Don’t sweat it, Angie, really, it’s okay. I’m glad he came back in when he noticed you weren’t there. I’d hate for him to still be waiting outside. He’s having a snack and happily reading away a new Magic Tree House book,” You smiled as Owen was deep in conversation with Jake.
“Thank you Miss Kazansky, you are a lifesaver.”
“Says you, the actual nurse. I’ll see you in a bit,” You said your goodbyes to Owen’s mom before hanging up the phone, “Well, Owen, your mom will be here soon.”
“Okay,” Owen nodded, “Hey! Miss K, did you know Mister Jake is in the Navy!”
“I did, Owen,” You said to him. He had a large toothless grin on his face as he looked at his new friend, “Jake is a friend of mine.”
“No way! Can he show us the planes someday!?”
“Maybe,” You said and looked at Jake, who nodded.
You sat and listened while Jake and Owen talked about all things Navy. Owen was a very smart little boy, and was very intrigued as Jake explained day to day things. Even though Jake was probably talking circles around the poor kid, Owen asked questions and made Jake explain things. It was cute seeing Jake talk to him, you knew Jake was good with kids. You had watched him with his niece and nephew before. It made you feel a little bit better knowing that Jake was comfortable around kids. When Owen’s mom came and picked him up, Jake stuck around to help you pick up some of your things. He smiled as he heard Owen tell his mom all about their conversation.
“Mister Jake, will you come back some time?” Owen asked him with large hopeful eyes.
“Sure thing buddy,” Jake nodded, “I’ll bring some of my other friends too, oh!” Jake exclaimed as Owen ran up to him and hugged him. You and Owen’s mom shared a look of shock as Jake patted the top of his head.
“Owen, come on,” His mom said, “You need to apologize. You can’t just hug people like that.”
“It’s alright,” Jake smiled, “Here,” Jake kneeled down in front of Owen and you watched as he took one of the silver pins off his collar and handed it to him, “Now you can be. . .” Jake gently grabbed the little boy's jacket and pinned the rank to him, “Lieutenant Commander Owen Nielson, of Miss Kazansky’s second grade classroom. Just remember, she’s the admiral.”
Owen’s mom smiled at you, before gently taking her son’s hand and leading him out of the room. Jake stood to his full height, a pleased smile as he turned to you. His smile dropped as he saw tears in your eyes, and confusion spread across his features.
“Why are you-”
“He never talks like that,” You sniffled, “He’s so quiet and shy. He sits in here during lunch and recess because some of the kids pick on him and he gets anxiety being in loud, chaotic places like that. He doesn’t talk to strangers, not even other teachers. It took him four weeks to talk to me and you just. . . you just walk in here and he talks to you like you’re best friends and he hugged you! He’s never hugged me!”
Jake’s smile came back to his face as he pulled you in for a hug. You relaxed against his body, nuzzling your face into his chest for a moment. Jake breathed in a deep whiff of your hair, having missed the scent that used to be left on his pillows at night. When you pulled away, you chuckled softly and wiped your tears.
“I should get home before my own parents start calling,” You said. You grabbed your bags, attempting to put your backpack on your back, before Jake grabbed it.
“It’s heavy, I got it,” Jake said and you nodded. He followed you to the parking lot, seeing the familiar jeep that now had sides and a top on it, “You covered it?”
“Yeah. . .” You said. It was weird that the orange four door had all four doors on it. Jake frowned, he knew how much you liked feeling the wind in your hair as you drove. It was the reason why Jake bought a Dyna Super Glide, for you guys to ride on up the coast. He missed having you sitting on the back of his motorcycle. He actually sold it when you two broke up.
There was an awkward tension between the two of you. There was something that needed to be said, that needed to be talked about but neither one knew how to start that conversation. Instead, Jake stood there and watched as you put your belongings in the backseat of your car. You shut the door and faced Jake, stuffing your hands into the pocket of your dress.
“I uh. . . I have another appointment in two weeks,” You said and Jake nodded, knowing exactly what you were talking about, “Heartbeat appointment.”
“Wow,” Jake said, “Is uh. . .is everything alright? Sick or anything?”
“Every single morning and night,” You scrunch your nose. Jake loved when you did that, “But so far yeah, everything is alright. They’re the size of a raspberry.”
“Growing like a weed,” Jake laughed. You giggled and Jake felt his heart flutter, “Well, I should let you get going home. Text me the details of the appointment.”
“Can you send me your number?” You asked nervously, “I deleted yours when we broke up.”
“Oh. . .  yeah, I’ll send you a text,” Jake wondered what else you had deleted. He still had everything on his phone, your texts, your voicemails, pictures and videos, even some emails that you had sent. It made Jake’s heart hurt that you tried so desperately to move on from him, while he was still stuck on you. He also noticed that you took down the car charm he had gotten you for your first anniversary.
“Thanks, I’ll see you, Jake,” You said, and opened the door to your car.
“Yeah, you too,” Jake said, and waved as you started up your jeep and pulled out of the parking lot, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
That night, Jake stayed up researching and reading all he could about pregnancy, printing off articles and documents. He highlights important facts and key things to be aware of. He smiled as he read that at eight weeks his baby was growing a millimeter a day.
— — —
Jake woke up the next morning with a smile on his face. He laced up his tennis shoes and went on his usual three mile run with the dog that you and he had adopted. In the breakup, Jake had asked that he kept Herc, and you agreed but took the two cats Fred and George. Herc was an excited two year old german shepherd that had one floppy ear. He was a loyal pup, and Jake pretended to not notice how even after you left, Herc would take his toy to your side of the bed and sit, waiting for someone to throw it.
“What’s for breakfast, Herc?” Jake asked, as they walked through the front door. Herc barked in response and Jake nodded, “Eggs and french toast it is!”
Jake turned on his speaker, pressing play on the same playlist he had on his phone for the past five years. You named it ‘Flyboy’ and it was full of classic 80s hits. The opening beats of ‘Jessie’s Girl’ sounded through the kitchen, and Jake felt his heart clench. He was reminded of those Sunday mornings after spending Saturday out drinking with friends until the late hours of the morning. You had always been a morning person, and Jake found you down stairs, wearing one of his large t-shirts and panties, cooking away while singing, one too many times. He pushed the thought away as he grabbed the makings for breakfast.
Herc was right by his side, sitting dutifully as Jake prepped his meal. The pup’s honey brown eyes watched his owner, waiting for a scrap of bacon to fall on the floor for him to eat. When Jake was done cooking food, before he sat down, he got Herc’s kibble ready, sitting it on the ground next to the barstools. Jake’s apartment was nothing like the house that he had in Lemoore. The apartment was plain, not a single thing on the walls. He was surprised that he even had living room furniture. Jake eat in silence, while watching the morning news on the small TV he had in the living room, angling it so he could see it from the kitchen.
Jake’s fork was halfway to his mouth when his phone went off. He froze for a second, looking down at the caller ID, before putting his food down and picking the phone off. Herc barked at the clatter of the silverware.
“It’s momma calling,” Jake said to the dog, and then swiped to answer it, “Hey-”
“There’s something wrong,” You said and Jake pushed himself up from his chair.
“What’s wrong?” He put the phone between his ear and shoulder, grabbing his plate and putting it in the sink.
“I’m cramping and bleeding,” Your voice sounded far away and scared. Jake felt his heart start to pound in his chest.
“I’ll be there in fifteen. You’re at your parents house?”
“Yes but I already called Bradley. He’s on his way.”
It was like a nail in the coffin as Jake gripped the phone in his hand, grabbing his keys, yelling a quick goodbye to Herc as he went to his car, “I don’t care. Bradley’s not the father, I am. And I am on my way.”
You sat on the floor of your bathroom as you waited to see who would arrive first, Jake or Bradley. Bradley was already on base, which was a good twenty minutes away, but he was known for speeding and could make it in ten. But then again, Jake left his apartment in a rush, and you knew he drove fast too. You cursed as you leaned your head against the cupboards. Your stomach was still cramping and you were too scared to look if you were still bleeding. Your mind went to the worst case scenario when you woke up this morning and found some blood in your panties.
The front door opened and you pushed yourself up off the floor. Your parents were already at work, and you were thankful for it. You weren’t sure how you would explain to your father that his two instructors raced to get to your side. You looked out the large window as you descended the stairs and saw the shiny white Mercedes Benz sitting in your driveway. Jake had won this race.
“Love?” Jake called out to you, meeting you on the stairs, “Have you called your doctor?”
“Yeah,” You let out a sigh of relief. There was some comfort in having Jake here with you, “She told me to go to the ER and get checked out.”
“Alright, let’s go,” Jake said, and put a hand on the small of your back.
“Where’s Bradley?” You asked.
“Texted him and told him I got it,” Jake answered and you frowned. You knew it was probably not a nice text message that Jake sent to him. Even though you had Jake with you, you also wanted Bradley to be there. There was something in your chest that ached for Bradley’s comfort right now. Maybe it was the fact that if this is what you thought it was, it would hurt more to have Jake there finding out too.
“Hey, I can hear the gears in your head,” Jake said as he opened the car door for you. You looked at him and he could see the fear in your eyes, something he used to see when he’d go away for deployments or missions, “It’ll be okay. Whatever is going on, I’m here, okay. I’m not leaving you, love.” You nodded and Jake kissed your forehead, before you got into the car. He helped you buckle up before jogging around to the other side.
Doctor Miller had already placed a call by the time you arrived in the ER, and they got you back right away. Jake came back into the room with you, and you were wishing you told him to stay out in the waiting room. A nurse came in and took your vitals and got you set up for an ultrasound. Jake studied your bare stomach, seeing if he could see the tiniest hint of a bump. He remembered on one of the various websites he had read that you can start showing this early.
“Quit staring at me,” You muttered and Jake looked from your stomach to your face. You raised an eyebrow and Jake smiled sheepishly.
“Just one of the websites said you can sometimes start to show, and I wanted to see,” Jake answered and you nodded. It was quiet for a moment before Jake spoke again, “Are you having weird dreams, cause that’s another thing that happens.”
“Yeah, every night I dream I’m having a baby with my ex,” You said, looking up at the ceiling, “Oh wait. . . that’s a nightmare.” Jake rolled his eyes.
“What about-”
“Can you quit asking me questions? You’re getting annoying.” You looked at him and you could see the light diminish in his eyes. You felt bad. You knew that he was just trying to make conversation, but right now, Jake was the last person you wanted in the room with you.
“Y/N?” The nurse from earlier knocked on the door, poking her head in.
“Yeah?” You responded, sitting up slightly.
“You have a visitor. He says he’s your brother,” The nurse said, and you could see Bradley standing behind her.
“Yeah, let him in,” You nodded and the nurse stepped out of the way for Bradley to come in. Jake clenched his jaw as Rooster went right to you, engulfing you in a tight hug.
“Are you okay? Has Doctor Miller come in?” Bradley asked, looking you over for any external signs of trauma.
“Not yet, she’s on her way,” Jake answered for you, and Bradley turned to glare at him.
“Have they done an ultrasound? Blood work?”
“Waiting for Doctor Miller to do the ultrasound. But they took blood earlier,” Jake, once again answered.
“She can speak for herself,” Bradley seethed.
“Yeah, I can, and this is going to stop,” You said, pointing between the two of them, “You suddenly both became important to me again. . . sadly,” You rolled your eyes at Jake, “So the bickering needs to stop. And don’t lie to me about getting into a fight last week about me. Payback told me.”
“Fucking Fitch,” Jake mumbled and sat back in his seat.
“Really, are you okay? Still in pain?” Bradley said, and brushed his knuckle over your cheek.
“I’m fine. Still cramping but I think the bleeding stopped,” You answered and Rooster nodded, as the door opened.
“Oh, you have a guest,” Doctor Miller said coming into the room, “Doctor Kelly Miller, Y/N’s obstetrician.”
“Jake Seresin,” Jake said, shaking the woman’s hand, “I’m the dad.”
Doctor Miller nodded and you rolled your eyes, laying back down on the exam table. You were happy that Doctor Miller remained professional as she walked over to the ultrasound machine.
“Blood work is still showing elevated hCG, which can mean one of two things to us right now. You are also showing increased levels of cortisol, which is the stress hormone. Do you have any new stressors in your life?” She asked, and your eyes went over to the two brooding pilots sitting next to each other. Doctor Miller looked over her shoulder and chuckled, “Baby Daddy and Best Friend?” She asked and you nodded, “Yep. . . been there before.”
“So you know my pain,” You sighed. Doctor Miller chuckled and grabbed the bottle of gel.
“Yes, but imagine baby momma, yourself and your best friend,” Doctor Miller said, “It was a fun nine months when the wife and I had our first baby.” She moved the transducer around on your belly, pushing down just slightly. You winced as she pushed on your full bladder, trying to get an image of your baby. Jake and Bradley’s eyes were locked on the screen too, trying to catch a glimpse. Jake had seen enough ultrasounds to know what to look for, whereas Bradley was stumbling blind into this.
“There!” Jake said pointing at the screen.
“You are not a doctor Jake, shut up,” You snapped and Doctor Miller smiled.
“He’s right though,” She said, taking a picture of your uterus and then setting the transducer down, “Here’s your baby,” She pointed to the screen, and then looked at the nurse in the corner, “See if we can get a doppler in here, I want to see if we can get the heartbeat.” The nurse nodded and left the room quickly, “From what I can see, you are measuring well for eight weeks.”
“Size of a raspberry,” Jake nodded, “They also have taste buds.”
“Shut up,” Bradley said, hitting his arm.
“Someone’s reading,” Doctor Miller said.
“Yeah, a little too much,” You shifted on the bed, “What about the cramping and the blood?”
“As scary as it seems, it’s normal,” Doctor Miller answered as the nurse came back in. She handed her a small pouch, “The cramping is from your uterus expanding, you’ll feel it throughout the pregnancy. If it’s severe like a period cramp, then you need to come in right away. Same with the blood. Spotting early is common, your cervix is sensitive and your body is getting used to not having a menstrual cycle,” You watched as she set up the doppler, plugging it into the ultrasound machine, “Like I said, if it’s more than just spotting, you need to come in.”
“Anything else that would warrant her having to come in?” Bradley asked, “She’s sick almost every day. Like violently ill, I never knew one person could spew up that much.”
You grimaced at Bradley’s words.
“Is it that bad? Dizzy and weak during the day?” Doctor Miller asked and you nodded, “I’ll order you some motion sickness patches. They’ll go behind your ear for about four hours and then remove. Are you spending a lot of time on your feet?”
“I’m a second grade teacher,” You answered.
“Compression socks will be your best friend then, it’ll help with swelling.”
“Don’t want cankles,” Jake said and Bradley again, smacked his arm.
Doctor Miller chuckled as you groaned. She moved the small transducer around your lower abdomen. The room was quiet until a loud whooshing sound filled the room. Jake moved in his seat, trying to get closer to your belly, his eyes wide as he heard the heartbeat of his unborn child. You looked over at Jake, a soft smile on your features.
“There,” Doctor Miller said, “Heartbeat is strong and steady. Baby is looking healthy and strong.”
“Just giving their parents a scare,” Jake said and you nodded.
“Enough of that shit, little one,” You said, poking your belly gently. Doctor Miller handed you a blue towel to clean the gel off your belly.
“I still want to see you in two weeks for your appointment. Try and keep your stress levels down, and I’ll send that prescription into the pharmacy,” Doctor Miller said, “I’ll see you in two weeks.”
“Wait, Doc, can I talk to you?” Jake said as Doctor Miller turned to leave. She nodded and Jake got up, following her out of the room.
“Ten bucks says he tries and gets her number,” Bradley said, helping you sit up from the table. You groaned and shook your head, “You going back to-”
“Buckles, you have to stand down a bit,” You said and Bradley looked like you just kicked a puppy. You sighed and fixed your shirt, “This is his baby, as shitty as this all is. There’s nothing I can do about it. And I appreciate all you have done for me and the baby, but. . . you have to stand down, just a bit.”
“I’m sorry,” Bradley said, looking down at the floor, “I didn’t mean to overstep. But, Y/N, I care about you and the Little Bug.”
“Little Bug, huh?” You smiled and Bradley nodded, “I kinda like that. Bug and little bug,” Bradley smiled and you hugged him again,  “I love you, Buckles. I’d be so lost without you.”
“I love you too, Bug,” Bradley said, rubbing your back. You pulled back from the hug and placed a kiss on Bradley’s cheek.
“I’ll talk to you later. Thanks for coming,” You said and squeezed his arm before leaving the exam room.
Bradley let out a deep sigh and shook his head. He knew that he needed to back off a bit, but hearing it hurt more than it should. There were a lot of things Bradley didn’t know, but one thing he did was the fact that he was hopelessly and utterly in love with you. And you’d never be able to love him back.

Halloween AU lore dump!!!
❗️WARNING❗️
so much infodumping world buidling and headcannons
DJ- Robot
Originally built to be a robo cop type deal. But when given free will refused to hurt anyone and got scrapped
Was found and repurposed by "Momma" to be a son
Really fuckin loves animals. Nature in general but mostly animals.
They get spooked by him a lot though
Hes kinda sad about this but gets it.
Momma is a scraper/engineer and outfitted him with everything a "good human boy" would need, like touch receptors and an ability to taste
Nothing to be done about majorly changing how he looks tho
The ability to feel is a bit too much sometimes
Sometimes all he can feel is cold
Goes to Duncan to see if he can do something about helping communicate to animals that he is a friend. Ala magic.
Machinery and Magic don't mix well typically, you gotta be crazy specific, which isn't really Duncan's styel
Duncan likes DJ tho, and proceeds to steal some of Harolds spellbooks
Side plot of them being wayyyy to hard for him to read, in both way too high level and shitty handwritten chickenscratch that fucks with his dyslexia, so he has to ask Harold for help
Maybe they learn to better understand eachother idk
Maybe they kill eachother
Harold and Duncan team up 6 dead 9 injured every single person is fucking baffled
Anyways DJ is like iron giant up in this bitch
His Momma is kinda worried that one day he'll learn enough mechanics to fix himself up and wont need her anymore
Tyler - Harpy
Ok the chicken fear makes sense now
He gets the uncanny valley feeling looking at chickens
I would too
He would fly into a window
Can he fly?
Hes like a turkey
Or a seagull
Wait im an idiot hes a chicken
Duh
Eva - Gargoyle
Her carver loved buff women thank god almighty for that
Punches like a brick wall
Living Stone
lion paws for feet
Did you guys know sound resonates the best through solids??
Her music listening experience is legit i just know it
Noah - The Blob/ slime monster
Oh god that poor guy
Hes gonna get slime all over his books
Harold - Witch
He's the type of witch to have seperate waters for different kinds of spells
A pretty dorky Witch, even by witch standards
Wears proper witch PPE (robes and hat)
Has his sheldon Big Bang Theory style shirts on underneath tho
Uses incantations and written spells in magical languages mainly
Uses the starlight, paper, ink, historical artifacts and an assortment of magical ingredients as fuels
Has a large collection of quality spellbooks for references
Not those shitty amazon spellbooks that are just a list of pre written spells, these ones were written by some old hag 80 years ago and through flowery rambleing language tell you how write spells yourself. They go into spell syntax.
Harolds books for writing incantations and spells are spiral notebooks
If he uses smbols will typically craft a custom sygil for it
Uses alot of number magic and latin
Uses his confidence in his skills with writing spells to harness magic
Is better at doing spells for other people, when doing spells for himself he tends to overcomplicate things
Actually went to magic camps and magic summer schools
"I was trained for this!" and it's Mostly true
Can make the most specific fucking spell work for him
I cannot stress he is good at this type of casting.
Duncan's way of doing magic pisses him off. Both are convinced their way is better
Harold to Duncan ->"What the fuck do you mean you increased your strength with a posca marker, bare knuckles and a dream. How are you not dead yet >:[ "
He has a lot of respect for magic itself, Duncan's almost disrespectful way of using magic makes him mad.
Whats worse is that it works.
How Harold casts a spell
Writes down a goal -> outlines different methods to achieve it (incantations, scrolls, potions) -> writes out the spelleork with alot of detail accounting for almost every outcome -> it takes very long -> outwardly or inwardly recites writes spell to activate it -> profit
Alejandro - Siren
(I give up with organization here no more bullet points)
Mermaids and Sirens are almost identical, with few overt physical differences
Sirens will typically have colored iris', 2 finned gills, longer tounges, boned ears and uniformly sharp teeth
Mermaids have colored scalera, 3 smooth gills, finned ears and sharp canines
This isn't a rule, and in modern times there are few families of sirens or mermaids that havent mixed with other monsters at some point
Both species have shape-shifting abilities.
Mermaids have two forms, and can switch between them at will, though the process takes hours and the mermaid will have to stay in either aquatic or land form for a couple weeks before changing again. though this wait time can be speed up with tailsmen, it's can cause health problems.
Siren can shift their features at will, including shifting from aquatic to non aquatic with no wait time, some families of Siren encourage "good breeding" and fostering shifting abilities to the point of shifting bone structure, hair, colors and gender at will. This level of shifting controll is a very desirable trait, and cannot be learned.
Alejandro is one of these few families who try to stay purely Siren
Hes a 100% Siren, but unlike his brothers he lacks any shape-shifting abilities, a flaw that has brought him great shame (this is just a genetic fluke, it's like a birth defect)
but he has both a very powerful ability to enchant his words and natural charisma. Dangerous combo.
Because of the well known knowledge that Sirens can manipulate people with ease, Alejandro semi pretends that he is a Mermaid, using his long hair to obscure his gills
He more just lets people assume hes a Mermaid and does not correct them rather than actually lying
He lies about many things but outright lying about species is a bit much
Siren Speech doesn't work as good if someone's also using magic at the same time or knows what's up about it
It doesn't work that great on Heather, Duncan or Harold point blank, or Lindsay, Beth Trent and Justin if they're shifting or shifted
Good thing hes manipulative on his own!
Beth - Mermaid
Yeah sure why not
I don't know enough about Beth yet i need a moot whose obsessed with her
Ezekiel - Ghost
Lmao hes invisible
Poor dude probably gets looked over all the time
Hes just clothes and a transparent person
Justin - Werewolf
The twilight girls would go crazy over him i know it
Cody - Puppet
Oh poor dude
Itll look cool tho
Hed make knock on wood jokes all the time
Trent - Werecat
The trustin girls would go crazy over this i know it
But real like hes chillin
Would use claws as a pick
Geoff - Frankenstein
A man of the people
Literally
Looses limbs easily
Wakes up after a party like "wheres my leg lmao"
Heather - Zombie
Oh this is good
Shes vegan
Would insult people like "i can tell you have a brain why the hell don't you use it"
Very concerned over phsyical appearance
Uses so so many products
Pretty alive looking for a zombie cuz of it
It's kinda creepy
Her eyes got no eyeshine tho
Like a shark.
Gwen - Skeleton/Ghost
Ok this was an accidental double Gwen got both Skeleton and ghost
Since Ezekiel is already a ghost i'm Gonna lean into the Skeleton bit more but throw a transparent silhouette over all of her for the ghost bit
Ghost vs Zombie rivalry
She'd do all sorts of cool drawings and markings on her bones
Gwen, drawing a bat on her femur with sharpie: tattoo moment
Her eyeliner is also sharpie
Who the fuck cares about skincare when you don't have skin
Lindsay: you shouldn't put permanent marker on your face! It can hurt you 🥺
Gwen, floating bones:
LeShawna - Chimera
YES I LOVE MONSTER COMBOS
LIKE COMBINATIONS OF MULTIPLE ANIMALS
lets do classic chimera but with one head
Lean into the Lioness bit cuz Leshawna is a boss bitch and Lionesses are so fucking cool
I might give her a scorpion tail
Duncan - Witch
Another double whoops lol
He's a "fuck it we ball" typa witch
lmao he and Harold are beefing like crazy i know it Harold has 12 spellbooks hes memorized with their specific ways of casting and Duncan is writing runes on his knuckles with sharpie
Duncan to Harold ->"Why are you using 2 pages of latin for a fire spell??"
"Because i need only this bit of wood to light on fire a little bit and nothing else and if i dont i could loose control of it or blow it up or it might not even start"
*stares in did finger guns at a branch and cremated it for fun*
Harold to Duncan ->"Why are you writing runes on your nailpolish??"
"i'm tired of being the only scary bitch here without claws"
*stares in once accidentally rubbed spell notes off of his spellbook and onto his face while passed out on his desk and gave himself acid burns for 3 weeks"
They go crazy they go stupid
Hes self taught
The Duncan and Harold bullying arc turned Street smart vs actually Smart but make it witches
Mostly just picking shit up as he goes
"Stole" (it was free) a pamphlet on different types of magical symbols and has managed to make the symbols illustrated in it work for almost every spell he wants
Fueled by raw unrelenting audacity
Real lore tho- magic is created with belief and harnessed with confidence, you can either go the intellectual route and control every variable and have trust in your control of those variables to harness the magic like Harold, or like Duncan, have enough semi-unearned confidence in yourself to harness magic with little need for more than a few variables.
Basically as a general rule, it has as much meaning as you truthfully believe it does
Doesn't explain what hes casting or how hes doing it
"Where'd you learn how to do that?"
"what are you a cop?"
(learned from illustrations, word of mouth, and other witches on the street)
Has a couple stick n poke magical symbols, several other scribbled on symbols that are temporary
Biggest one is a glyph for fire on his hand, he doens most of his spells using it
Has burns around his glyph tattoos from spells backfiring cuz he got distracted
Uses sharpies, spraypaint, eyeliner and the insides of firecrackers for drawing symbols
If he needs a magical material he'll typically substitute whatever he has on him, belief goes a long way.
"Pure Holy Silver?... this earring looks silver enough
This doesn't work for potions cuz potions are only a little left to normal chemistry.
Has alot of talisman he wears
Carries extra ingredients on him ala accessories cuz fuck it it looks cool
Mains his spells with symbols, uses potions or material fuels if he cant make a good connection between what he wants and one of 10 symbols he remembers at any given time
Uses moonlight, bones, rocks, and personal artifacts as fuels
How duncan casts a spell
Draws glyph -> creates a mental connection between what the glyph means and what he wants to do (this is mostly subconscious with Duncan he doenst know what hes doing he just knows he does it well)-> activates glyph physically (ie hitting, tapping, lighting, punching, tracing with finger)
Example: draws fire glyph on Chris's camper -> wants to set it on fire but not the surrounding grass and trees -> smacks the side of the camper that has the glyph on it -> profit
Duncan, to Harold: You make magic math, i make magic my bitch
Bridgette - Alien
Aww she could be so cute
Surfer girl from planet nine
Owen - Plant Monster
This could visually look really cool
Big carnivorous plant
Izzy - Angel
kaleidoscope = biblically accurate form, cuz she "Looks like a kaleidoscope! Duh!"
Lindsay - Selkie
If you steal her coat ill fucking kill you
Sadie - Vampire
Ough thats cute
I'm Gonna make her pigtails batwings
Katie - Zombie
undead girlfriends
Sadie thinks Katie is so pretty it doesn't matter her eye just fell out
Courtney - Demon
Oh this bitch looooves contracts
Is also upset about Duncan but she just doesn't like witches in general
Whats the point of making deals with humans for magical powers of some humans give themselves magical powers
Demon of what?? Pride maybe?? Or envy??
Shes a sweetheart tho

I find it kinda funny how in a lot of the Lupin III animes, a lot of times Zenigata is often times played up for a comedic effect. Or that other policemen that work with Zenigata never really take him seriously because he's always getting screwed over by Lupin and his gang. So much so that it makes you forget that Zenigata is literally the best of the best in the world of law enforcement.
Pops has arrested several hundreds of criminals within his career and has influenced and helped a lot of people with his kind actions. He's also a master at Judo and can wreck someone's shit pretty quickly with zero effort. Not to mention that he's the only one who's able to keep up with Lupin, as well as predict what his next moves are and is the only one who's managed to arrest him several times throughout the entire series.
Adding onto this, other criminals who aren't Lupin or his friends always fall to the Inspector's skills. Cuz he's so damn good at his job that they're not a challenge him at all in the long run. Basically Zenigata is the king and he rarely ever loses, if at all.
Unless it's Lupin.
Like it's so easy to forget that beneath the usual emotional, kind and goofy Zenigata we all know and love, is actually a god damn powerhouse of a man who's a literal unstoppable hurricane. He's the ICPO's best detective they've ever had in their ranks.
It's why Zenigata is the only one that Lupin pays attention to and takes seriously as a rival. Cuz like Zenigata, Lupin's the best of the best. He's the world's greatest thief, an unstoppable force that leaves carnage in his wake. He's left several policemen and detectives and inspectors in the dust because they couldn't pin him down nor keep up with him. Lupin's literally ruined people's careers in the law enforcement department just by outsmarting them.
And then there's Pops.
Pops, the only cop who was able to keep up and keep in step with Lupin and his moves. Pops who's the only detective whose ever given Lupin an actual challenge in his usual heists. Who's the only one besides Lupin's partners, Jigen, Goemon and Fujiko, that's still able to take Lupin by surprise outwit him when he least expects it.
They're both masters at their crafts, the top class in their respective areas and careers. No one else is able to match them when it really comes down to their skills, talents and assets.
No one except for each other.
Like dude it's interesting to think about it, like if one of them were to quit or go missing or die the other would be incomplete. Because at the end of the day, the reasons why their jobs are worth it and makes them so enjoyable, is because they have the other there to heighten up the excitement. A rival that makes the experience of heists and adventures worth while. If one of them wasn't there, then it wouldn't be worth it.

An Alliance (Part 6)
Tumblr media
Fem! Spy! (Y/N) x Yuri Briar
Parts: One, two, three, four, five, current part, seven, eight, nine, ten (to be continued when Spy x Family has more Yuri content!)
(Y/N) is given her own backstory that is important for the story!
The setting for this story is based off West and East Germany's (because Spy x Family is heavily based off Germany in the 1940-1950) laws (or at least replicated to the best of my abilities since it's unknown what time period Spy x Family is exactly in, we'll go with 1950 for the sake of this story).
Historically-accurate women misogyny and mistreatment! Only small comments and historically-accurate laws (replicated to the best of my ability).
The story, plot, and settings might not match up to the Spy x Family manga as it's not completed and the manga is still being crafted.
This series contains spoilers for the manga and anime!
Tumblr media
My dad read the Westalis newspaper where the headline was: “Ostania Threatens Westalis with Nuclear Warfare!” as me and my siblings played outside. He was outside on the porch watching us play in the sun. It was springtime, a nice and warm day where there were lots of clouds in the sky that helped with shade. My mom's nowhere to be seen, she's been gone for a while now. She left us when we were young so we didn't have a two income household, it made it hard to pay bills or cook dinners; but it taught me a lot about the real world, so I'm a glad I can see the bright side of it.
I had the rest of the day off from working at the bakery. The lady owning it told me to enjoy myself since things were really starting to look bright for us ever since Westalis and Ostania made that peace pact with us. I agreed, taking my paycheck and running home to go play outside with my siblings.
My two younger brothers both chased my older sister around, playing tag and enjoying their youth. My older brother sat in the background (he wasn't much for socializing with us).
My older sister had a pure heart and loved to spoil me as I was her only little sister. My two younger brothers were both troublemakers that very often got away with stuff (somehow nobody ever looked their way when things went south). My older brother never liked to hang out with us much, but I know he cares about us (he's just in his "I'm independent and don't need no family" phase).
I don’t know why, but I decided to look up at the sky that day. Maybe because I wanted to see how long it'd be until sunset, but I found myself looking at something else. The clouds parted a path for a weird yellow thing in the sky. I gawked at it in amazement, before smiling and running to my dad in uneven zig-zags as any child does when they've not properly mastered balancing.
“Dad! Dad!” I called out. “Is that a shooting star?” I questioned, pointing up to the sky.
He looked up at the sky, trying to see what I was talking about before his eyes widened.
“Oh no.” He muttered, utter fear in his eyes and voice. “Everyone, get inside now!” he shouted.
I looked at him confused, looking up at the sky in curiosity.
        “Why?” I questioned.
“That’s a nuke!” he exclaimed, grabbing my arm as everyone ran inside due to his panicked voice.
I quickly squirmed out of his grasp, scared of his sudden change of attitude. I didn't understand what war was; if anything, I thought it was good! Why else would neighboring kids be running around and playing games such as "cops and robbers" or "army"? Why would kids be playing a game that glamorizes the death and suffering of others?
“N-no! I have to make a wish, otherwise it won’t come true! That’s what sissy said.” I spoke, making a dumb excuse.
“We don’t have time, come here!” he spoke, lunging for my arm.
I quickly retracted, turning and running away with the excuse of “at least let me get my chalk!”
I was scared and confused of his sudden change of attitude. It won’t hurt me, I’ve never heard of shooting stars crashing into Earth. I was set it was a star, not a nuke (not that I was even aware of what nukes were at the time). Besides, the star will be tiny! When it falls, I can pick it up and keep it in my pocket as a pet. That's how naive I was as a child.
        “(Y/N)!” my father screamed, frustrated.
I turned around, seeing how the star went from over my to hitting something I couldn’t see from far behind the house. I looked at it, shocked at the sky flashed red for a second, before it returned normal. A blackish gray mushroom cloud appeared behind the house, growing big by the second.
        “Woah.” I spoke, shocked.
It took a second, staring amazed at it, before I was hit with powerful winds as the sound of glass broke and the sound of trees getting ripped from their weakened roots. I barley heard the screaming of people before I was taken in the powerful wave of wind as my ears started to hurt. My body slammed against a tree, knocking the wind out of me as I hit my head.
The wind stopped and I fell to the ground, not defying gravity anymore as I cried, covering my ears. I could barely even hear my own cries, just the sound of a church bell that hurt the headache I was immediately forming. I smelt something awful as I realized my vision was completely gone.
I held my ears, desperate to hear the ringing stop, and cried, curling myself into a ball from the pain. I don’t know how long I sat there before I tried standing up, swaying side to side as I took a blind step forward, only to trip on something thick and fall onto my knees. I crawled around, desperate to find a sense of familarity, before feeling a sharp pain stab into my hands. I wept louder, not knowing what hurt me as my vision didn't approve.
I stayed on the ground longer, waiting for something, anything, to happen. Eventually, I regained my vision from this light, but darkness. It was black and white, I really can't explain it in words. It's just not something you can explain.
I looked down at my hands and noticed blood that came from my ears. I ran to go tell my dad, but saw my house crushed, barely standing. I looked around in the rubble, trying to see if my dad or any of my siblings were alright.
I saw a hand from the rubble and notice it was my dad’s from the size and skin tone. I tried to move the bricks and debris but couldn’t. I tried to tug his hand but to no avail. I gave up, sitting down on the ground next to the hand and resulted to screaming and crying, hoping somebody would hear and save my family and I.
I don’t know how long I was there, crying as my ears rang miserably and how my body ached, but I eventually heard shouts and the sounds of heavy tires and machinery, and looked up. People in green and huge, huge tanks came around.
I realized it was the military and cried, standing up and running to them.
“Oh, shit. A kid’s alive!” someone shouted.
They had a terrifying gas mask on their face as they looked at me.
“My dad! My family! They’re trapped under the house!” I cried, pointing. "You gotta help them. I can't do it on my own!"
The man looked over and sighed, kneeling down.
“I’m sorry, kid, but we can’t save them. You can't be there, the Ostanian army is here.” He spoke as another man came up with a gas mask in his hand and on his face. “Here, wear this. It’ll help you breathe.” He spoke, taking the mask.
“It’s a miracle we got here when we did. Ten minutes more out here in this radiation and you could’ve died, that, or the Ostanians...” The other man spoke, muttering that last part to himself.
Even though I was seven at the time, I knew what death was; however, I didn’t know how gruesome it was. I didn’t know how cruel people could be. When I thought of death, I thought of old people with gray hair dying peaceful in bed, not young people robbed of their lives and lying in their childhood home's bricks and their own blood surrounding them.
“W-what’s gonna happen now?” I questioned.
“The military has a shelter going on right now. We’ll bring you there. After that, the state government is gonna take care of you. Probably put you in an orphanage.” The first man spoke.
And yet, even though I was seven, I had no idea how kids could live without a parental figure. I had no idea how someone could live in a house full of strangers. I had no idea how to accept their death, or my own that would probably be nearby.
The tank’s hatch opened up, revealing another guy in a gas mask.
“Then after we’re going to go kill those Ostanian fuckers for this!” he bellowed loudly, obviously angry.
"Rancher, could you shut the hell up?! A kid is present!” the second man yelled back at the third one.
A white van pulled up, their windows tinted, iron prison bars covering them as the door opened.
“Hurry up and get into the van. Keep your gas mask on too while you’re in there for extra safety.” The first man spoke, pushing me into the van.
I entered with my head racing and my heart pounding. There wasn’t many survivors they’ve found. Five people out of the sixty seated bus must’ve been here. Some napped while others cried, and some stared outside of the window with disappoint and rage to see their homes and families gone.
I sat down alone, deciding to be another one of those people who bottle up their emotions and stare out the window as their head bangs against it from the bus’ movements.
I’m going to destroy Ostania for everything they’ve done to us. I thought to myself. They'll atone for what they've done.         .         .         It wasn’t long after that nuke dropping that I found myself in a large shelter where alive civilians and the military were huddled down. I saw those guys once and thanked them for saving me, to which they said it was their jobs.
I was still mad at losing everything I had in just thirty seconds, so I decided to try and find a way into the military to help Ostanias downfall. Despite my many attempts to get into the military, they declined me each time for being under 18 and for being a girl.
I slammed my head on the metal table, ignoring the sting on my forehead as a military officer came up to me.
“Hey, Net.” I sighed, lifting my head.
“You keep doing that every time you don’t get in you’re gonna kill yourself before even getting your application accepted.” He spoke, taking a bite from his food.
        “It’s no use. I’m a girl” I groaned.
“You’re still trying to get in?” he questioned.
“Not try, I am gonna get in.” I stated defensively.
“Here.” Net spoke, sliding me a piece of paper.
“What is it?” I questioned, picking up the paper.
I recognized the form instantly from stealing it so many damn times.
“Woah. Dude, why are you giving me this? You could be in serious trouble!” I whispered.
“Instead of remaining calm and peaceful like how you'd normally fill the form out, just fucking obliterate the thing.” Nat spoke.
        “Oh.” I muttered. “Thanks?”
“No problem. Hurry up and get to Gerald. But if anyone asks, then you stole it…again.” Nat ordered.
“Yes, sir!” I chuckled, standing up from my chair and stealing a pen from Nat’s pocket.
I ran to the military counselor’s tent, sitting down and quickly filling out the form with the most unprofessional and colorful vocabulary I never even dared to utter alone to myself. I reread it proudly, determined to get that position in the Westalis military. I opened the tent and sat down, seeing the military counselor was there with one of the squad captains.
"Excuse me, sir and sir." I acknowledged, bowing to show my respect.
I handed the paper to the counselor as he groaned, already knowing why I'm here and what this paper meant.
"Yet again, you show up in my office like the stubborn little brat you are. I told you, children, and especially girls, aren't welcome in the Westalis mil–" Gerald gasped loudly, his face going pale as he stared at the paper with white-shot eyes.
He quickly flipped the page, and the next page, rereading the papers over and over again.
"Y-you..." he spluttered. "The audacity of you!" he shouted, grabbing a nearby yard stick and slapping my wrist with it.
"Oi! You fucking wad of earwax!" I yelp, retracting my hand back as his face went even paler.
"In front of the recruiter too?! Brats like you have no chance into the Westalis military!" Gerald spoke.
"You bet! I'm done with your fucking shenanigans! You better count all your lucky pennies because if I don't get that position in the military, I'm gonna sneak my way into them tanks and rapid fire your tent to match my hometown!" I shouted, slamming my hands on his desk and taking his yard stick, slapping it against his wrists instead of mine.
I ripped the paper out of Gerald's hands, giving it to the recruiter instead.
"Take it. You read it instead, you're the boss; not this leprechaun." I spat.
The recruiter kept a straight face before taking the paper. He read it, unamused and blank faced as I impatiently tapped my foot.
"Twenty-six times I've entered this tent within two months, and no results. I'm not going to stop until I join your squad." I stated, standing my ground as I stood straight and tall, hoping to seem determined enough to make up for all my weak strength and sour attitude. "I know that I don't look like much, nor do I act it. I'm seven and a quarter. I'm not very strong or tall, and I've barely lived long enough to even be a pre-teen, but I'm smart enough to understand the government and give advice of a seventy-year old, and I swear to whatever God there is that there's no fucker in Ostania that going to want to cross me after they see what I'll do with their soldiers." I spoke. "So if you could give me a chance and prove myself to you, that'd be really fucking fantastic." I spoke, allowing the colorful word to brighten my sentence.
        "You're seven?" the recruiter spoke.
"And a quarter." I spoke. "I can be useful! I'm fast and stealthy and my size helps me hide good. Ostania would never expect a girl to fight in the military, let alone a kid." I smiled.
"You realize you'll most certainly die within two days, maximum?" the recruiter questioned.
"Sometimes you just gotta jump to know what's there." I replied, determination filling every ounce of my soul and body.
The recruiter stared at me for a second, before looking at Gerald.
"Do you have this kid's other application forms?" he questioned.
"You're not seriously going to allow this brat? Out of everyone?!" Gerald questioned.
"Shut the hell up, Gerald." I snapped, slapping his wrist with the ruler. "Ain't nobody gonna join; everyone's too afraid to die or they're suffering from some major PTSD. You aren't gonna find a gal as determined as me to get this job."
"Give me her recent form." The recruiter demanded.
Gerald mumbled alienated words under his breath as he searched through his desk, pulling out a paper packet I gave him last week. The recruiter scanned through the papers for a good three minutes, before setting the papers down.
"You're recruited. Welcome, (Y/N) (L/N), to the Westalis Military." The recruiter spoke, a small smile on his face as he held out his hand.
I shook it proudly, cackling as Gerald tried his best not to break down to tears in the background.
        .
        .
A month went by with me in the military. It felt longer than it was, and it was absolutely exhausting. Just because I was a kid doesn't mean that the recruiter took any mercy on me.
("You've got the body of a crazy kid, and the mind of an even crazier adult.") The recruiter once told me. ("If you give up now, I'll kill you myself for making me look like a fool to have you join us.")
I experienced many bombings, tank firings, gunshots, and many comrades die. Nat and Hujo (that second man that helped me when Nat found me in Luwen, Eastern Westalis) both died in combat, their bulletproof vests being false advertising. I saw ####, a boy from my hometown, here.
I feel like I should’ve been happy to see someone I know alive, but me and #### never really got along well, even before the war. While he was seven years older and a quiet kid, he was a total pushover and aimed to please people. I was the rowdy and opinionated kid, ready to kick someone in the stomach and shout insults if they decided to pick on me.
We both lived in the small poor town of Luwen, the more poorer side of Westalis, but we made it work. And despite our many differences, we both had one common goal: to appease our parents. It amazed me how I never once saw him cry despite everything we've been through. He was older, taller, and stronger than me—something I was extremely envious of—and he became a squad commander after too many deaths, of my damn squad!
I hated him for being tough. I hated him for being an amazing liar. And I despised that he knew how to keep his emotions to himself, while I frequently lashed out and cried. I was predictable; and he was a closed-book, and it pissed me off beyond belief.
Rations were getting smaller and smaller, but it wasn’t too much of a problem for soldiers since they kept falling like dominoes, but it was a problem for the survivors we kept finding. The survivors came with missing fingers, broken limbs, and charred faces, it was almost like Ostania wanted the civilians of Westalis to suffer, and that just pissed us off further.
I sighed, resting my head on the cool metal table. My body ached from the training I’m out to before having to be dispatched out for another rescue mission.
“You should eat that shit. You’re getting glares.”
        I sighed, lifting my head.
        “Sup, Rancher?” I spoke.
Rancher was off-duty for a few days after Nat and Hujo died. Rancher was best friends with the two of them for years, so he really took it to heart when they died. He was the loud and rowdy guy in the tank when Nat and Hujo found me. He looks like total shit too. His tanned skin got paler and his brown eyes seemed dull and darker then before, the death of his two buddies really took a toll on him.
“You look like shit.” I admitted.
“Not like you look any better.” He chuckled.
“I’m still growing, so I have a chance at being tall and pretty; you’re too old to keep growing and you still look like a rat’s ass, just worse.” I laughed.
“The bigger the bark, the smaller the dog is.” He smiled, causing me to glare at him.
“Yeah? W-well…the stupider you are…the uglier!” I retorted, having no idea what I said as he laughed.
“Alright. Well, hurry up eating. I’m going to join the rescue mission before I get kicked out.” Rancher spoke.
“You sure, dude? I can come up with something for you. Like, something you ate went bad and you have food poisoning or some shit like that.” I suggested.
“Nah. I figured Hujo would be pissed off and Nat would be scolding me if I stayed in bed any longer.” Rancher smiled sadly.
“Take it easy, man. I’ll look out for you during the mission.” I spoke, patting his hand on the table before quickly shoveling my food down my throat, ignoring the plain and slightly repulsive taste it had.
I took a large sip of water to drown out the taste, then stood up.
“Rightie-oh!” I spoke, faking a British accent to cheer Rancher up. “Shall we go?”
“Yeah, sure.” He stood up—stretching and complaining about back problems—and walked out of the shelter’s roof to join the other soldiers.
The squad was—unfortunately—led by ####, who took the fake name “Roland” from Luwen to join the military. I was already in a sour mood thanks to #### and we haven’t even left!          .         .         A total fail. That’s what the mission was. Rancher was down, clutching his arm as he looked down at the wound. He had a hole in his chest and another in his forearm. The gun must’ve not been sighted since they missed all vital organs.
What an amateur… I thought, stuffing the wound in his chest with gauze.
“The bullet is stuck deep in there. It’s not something I can remove, but the nurses at camp will get it. Show me your arm.” I demanded.
I grabbed his arm, slapping his other hand that tried to stop me.
“Kid, you gotta get out of here. They’ll find you soon.” Rancher spoke, taking heavy breaths.
“Shut the hell up, Rancher. You and your big ass mouth. I know they’ll come here!” I snapped.
“Then fucking abort the mission. You shouldn’t even be in this whole mess.” Rancher sighed.
“Don’t try and give me final words like you’re dying; you’re going to live and I’ll make sure of it.” I spoke, determined as I stuff gauze into his arm, causing him to hiss at the pain.
“You need to live and do whatever you can to complete that goal you decided to join the military for.” Rancher argued.
I heard a branch snapped and quickly grabbed my gun, listening and shooting into the trees, as someone screamed and fell onto the ground not to far from here.
“Shit. I’m low on ammo.” I sighed.
“Just get out of here.” Rancher ordered.
“No.” I defied. “If I die, then I die. But I won’t. That mission can be postponed 'cause we’re both going to live. Now stop bitching.” I spoke, wrapping his arm with bandages to hold the gauze.
        “You’re stubborn.” He growled.
“You’re stupid.” I retorted. “Can you stand?” I questioned.
“If I stand, I’ll pass out.” He spoke.
I nodded, grabbing his walkie-talkie from his belt and switching it to the channel our military agreed on using.
“I need medical assistance. Soldier was shot twice and I’m low on ammo. His wounds have been caused and wrapped but he needs professional assistance. Over.” I spoke, repeating the line over and over until I heard a voice.
“Affirmative. What’s the coordinates? Over.” The voice questioned.
“Uh. Shit, probably...” I pulled out the map I had, fumbling with it. “Like... like 50°46'46.8" North 10°00'09.1" East? Over.” I spoke into the walkie-talkie.
(Author note: These are random coordinates I found in Germany and are no means accurate.)
“Negative. We can’t send anyone there, over.” He spoke.
“Well why the fuck not? Over!” I questioned.
“Enemy territory. Abort the premises with or without the soldier. Over.” They spoke.
“We’re in enemy territory because you fucking sent us in this mess, fucker! Over!” I hissed.
The line went silent before speaking: “Abort the mission with or without the solider. Over.”
“This is (Y/N) (L/N)! I can’t carry him! Rancher is down, over!” I informed.
“Oh, shit. You’re the kid? The seven-year-old kid?” the radio spoke, surprised that he didn’t even say “over”.
“Yes! And I can’t get Rancher to a safe place with my size and strength. I need either back up or medical assistance! Over.” I hissed.
“…Leave Rancher and get the hell out of there. War isn’t something a kid like yourself should be in. Over.” The man spoke.
“I'm sick of everything telling me what I should be doing! I chose this path. And I’m choosing to save Rancher, and I swear to god if you don’t help us I’ll haunt you when I’m dead because mine and Rancher’s blood will be on your hands. Over.” I spat.
The line went silent for a bit, before it picked up: “We’ll see what we can do. Over.”
I sighed, grabbing my gun and unloading the magazine chamber to check how much ammo I have.
Five bullets. As long as I don’t run into any trouble, I can make it. I thought to myself.
I grabbed Rancher’s gun to see how much ammo he has, not too surprised when I saw he had blew through it all. He's always been unsparing in our resources, whether it was food or ammo.
“You can leave. They said they’ll probably do something, so I’ll be fine.” Rancher sighed, his face pale as sweat ran down it, whether from the heavy uniform we’re wearing in this heat or the blood loss.
“Probably." I shrugged. "However, I told you I ain’t leaving. I told you I got your back, man.”
There’s no way I can turn back and leave, that’s how Nat and Hujo died.
“And do you have an off switch? Can you just shut up before the enemy finds us?” I sighed.
“Can you not be so stubborn?” Rancher retorted. “And I’m not the one that was yelling in the walkie-talkie two minutes ago.”
“And?” I dared, causing Rancher to roll his eyes.
I heard a branch snap and immediately raised up my gun.
“Wait! It’s Roland! I’m on your side.”
        #### stepped out of the bushes, causing me to groan and roll my eyes.
        #### looked like shit. He had a small stubble and had large eyeballs, obviously his sanity has deployed ever since the war officially set off, but so has mine, I supposed.
“You’re so damn lucky I didn’t shoot you.” I sighed, placing my gun down on the dirt.
“Yeah…” #### sighed, relieved that I actually didn’t. “Is Rancher okay?”
“He got shot twice; in his chest and arm. The bullets are too deep to get by hand, we need medical assistance. I’m afraid if we don’t get help, either he’d die from blood loss.” I sighed.
“Smart thinking. Good job.” #### spoke.
I ignored the praise and the fluffy feeling in my chest, glad to have been seen as useful and smart, but I don’t want to here praise from that prick.
“Yeah. I know from the med class I had to take to join...” I muttered.
Not like you didn’t take that class too. I thought, sarcastic.
Gun fire broke out nearby as you can hear stomping from not to far off.
        “Crap…” #### muttered.
“Pick him up and let’s go!” I whispered harshly.
“I’m not going to be able to carry him with the heavy uniform and run and shoot.” #### stated.
“Of course you can, you have to save him. That’s why you’re here!” I whispered, ignoring the tears that started to build up in my eyes from the hopeless feeling in my chest.
“We have to go.” #### spoke, calm and collected despite the gunfire and steps getting louder.
        “No.” I hissed.
“(Y/N)!” Rancher hissed. “Fucking go. I would never forgive myself if I’m the cause of your death; not when you have so much left to do.”
        “B-but… I can’t abandon you…” I whimpered.
“I want you to listen to me. Leave and go do whatever you want with your life. Please. Do something I’ve never done and continue your legacy.” He chuckled.
“No….” I muttered, unsure of my words.
“We have to go!” #### whispered harsh.
        “No!” I hissed back.
        #### stared at me for a good second, our eyes rivaling each other before he swiftly scooping me up, balancing me on his shoulder, and running.
“Hey! Let go!” I squirmed. “We have to go back and get Rancher.” By now, the panic and hopelessly fully took over, causing the dam in my eyes to break. “Please. We have to go back…” I whispered, my bottom lip trembling as more tears fell.
“Sorry. I’m sorry.” #### spoke, his voice shaking.
I could tell it was hard for him to leave Rancher too. Despite not knowing Rancher well, he was ####’s teammate, an ally, an amazing tanker with an amazing sense of humor, and a human. But for me, most importantly, he was my friend, and he reminded me of myself; stubborn and ready to fight no matter what. It’s hard to trade one’s life, even if they asked for it.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N).” He repeated. “I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything for Rancher, or our families. I can’t change the past to where I was stronger or where this war never happened, but I can at least change the present. And I want us to live.”
“I hate you.” I whimpered. “I hate how tough you are. How calm you are. And how you always know what to do and say. You stupid pushover and golden goose. I hate how you’re always Hercules.” I whined softly as more tears came down my face as I listened to the gunshots and yelling fading away as #### ran.
“I’m not as perfect as you think.” He chuckled poorly.
His tone surprised me, and I turned around to see his face. His blue eyes crying out their own sorrow as he focused his eyes ahead. I focused my attention back to the blurry ground as I allowed myself to cry some more.
Sometimes. Me and #### are different people; stubborn and smart, strong and weak. Other times, we’re the same person with the same goal; trying to appease our parents, or just trying to survive.
He stopped, placing me down and catching his breath as I sat on the ground, tears still in my eyes.
“You’re not injured, right?” he questioned.
“No.” I muttered. “Why’d you join the military?” I questioned.
The question came out of nowhere, yes. But I wanted to know why #### joined. What could his reason be?
“When Ostania crossed the border. In just 60 seconds, everything I cared about was taken away from me. All that was left, was thing I despised. And that’s more than enough for me to pick up a gun and destroy Ostania.” He admitted.
“We’re pretty similar…. Same reason I’m here.” I chuckled, wiping the tears out of my eyes.
“How’d you even get in?” he questioned. "You're too young. I had to fake my age and name."
“I had to do a lot of pestering and cussing.” I laughed.
A shuffle in the bushes was heard, causing me to stand up and #### to draw his gun as someone appeared out of the brushes. It was a man with curly brown hair and circular glasses and a piercing on his left ear.
        “Bwah! Time-out! Time-out! Stop! Don’t shoot!”
Did that grown-ass man really just “time out?”
Surprisingly, #### held his fire, sizing up the man.
“You’re Ostanian Infantry, yeah?” #### spoke.
“Gah! Westalis soldiers—is that a kid...?” he muttered the last part confused as he held his hands in the air.
I glared at him and pulled my own gun out, causing him to begin freaking out again.
“Where is your gun?” #### asked.
“I don’t have one! I’m unarmed! I surrender!” he quickly spoke, then sighed. “I… look, I deserted. I just couldn’t take it anymore. But I got lost and have been wandering around in these mountains for two whole days… so please can you give me something to eat?!” he shouted, putting his hands together and begging.
“I don’t have rations to spare on dead men. Say goodbye.” #### spoke calmly.
“Wait! Please! I’m begging you! I don’t wanna die having never been with a woman!” he screamed loudly.
Men are so simple minded… I thought to myself, yet chuckled as #### did.
“All right. I can give you one cigarette.” #### spoke.
“Oh, thanks.” The man spoke, taking a cigarette has #### lit it.
“I didn’t know you smoked.” I spoke up.
“There‘a a lot of things I do that you don’t know.” #### commented.
“Oh, okay, creep. Like that wasn’t weird.” I commented myself.
“What’s with the kid?” the man asked.
“Are you the one holding the gun? No? Don’t question it.” I huffed, holding up my gun.
        “Sorry, sorry!” he quickly wailed.
Soon enough, #### and the man started to click together, a weird combination in this war.
If I go back now, I wonder if Rancher would still be alive, if unspotted from the Ostanian military, that is. I thought to myself, sighing as I drew my focus back to the conversation.
“But you know, they actually do some interesting research at that university!” the man spoke. “Like, they got all these test subjects and showed ‘em a film of a guy getting slapped, right? And they showed signs of discomfort ‘cause their brains emphasized with the guy’s pain. And that means its human nature to avoid violence.”
“But the thing is they ran the experiment again, and this time they told the subjects that the guy gets slapped by his lover because he cheated on her. So what do you think happened? When they watched it, the subjects brains showed signs of pleasure!” he explained.
I think if I saw someone get slapped, I’d laugh without even knowing the reason. I thought to myself. Maybe if I convince #### to slap this guy, we can see. I thought impulsively.
“I mean, doesn’t it freak you out? They have no idea if they’re being told the truth, but once the idea’s in their head, they do a complete 180°. Weird, right?” the man spoke.
I feel like this is going somewhere. But I can understand what he’s saying. I thought to myself. I looked at my gun, feeling the weight in my hands and the heavy burden it was to carry it.
It’s be easier to drop it and walk away. I can barely hold this weight on my own. Someone else can; someone stronger and less sensitive.
I looked at ####, who seemed slightly frustrated.
“Just say what you’re trying to say!” he ordered.
“I’m just saying, isn’t it stupid? This whole war between East and West, it’s all the result of some diplomatic fiasco. So why is it that all of us worthless peona gotta be the ones to clean us their mess?” he sighed. “They tell us to hate each other. So we fight. And then we die. It’s the most pointless thing in the world.”
I didn’t know it at the time, but I was playing as a small cog in the machine—we all were. But the things with machines, is that they’re specially designed and assigned certain tasks. But once a cog is lost, the machine cannot perform its chores unless another cog takes the place of the previous one. It's easy to replace an old, broken cog with a new, naive one.
To put it in simple terms, the government, the war, needs us in order to win, and when we die, we’re easily replaced by another solider.
I’m surprised I’m not dead yet. I thought to myself. I have no major injuries and I still have a comrade with me—I doubt most of our soldiers have that.
All of the soldiers sent on this rescue mission are probably dead (with the exception of me and ####).
“Yeah, except it’s you Ostanians that started this war.” #### pointed out.
“In the East, they say it was the West that started it.” The man stated. “They say that first bombing of Luwen was a false flag operation. They’re even rumors Westalis got operatives from some other country to incite the Ostanian Army was doing it.”
I turned my head to ####, curious of his reaction.
I’m an open-minded person when it comes to politics or law as long as it doesn’t go against my moral code. I’d rather research to the ends of the Earth for the truth rather than believe in a simple lie. I’ll take this man’s words and place it on the back burner for when the time is right, to where I can find the truth, whether it’d be today or tomorrow or years from now.
Some Shakesphere I am, I thought to myself, watching has #### held his gun to the man.
“That’s just blatant propaganda to get your country off the hook!” #### shouted.
“Yeah! Yeah, right, of course it is! I’m just saying, how could a bunch of foot soldiers like us know the truth about anything?” the man immediately spoke, putting his hands in the air to prove no threat as I groaned.
        #### isn’t really all that open-minded, though.
“That day! That bombing! Those bombs killed every last one of my friends! There’s your truth!” #### spoke.
“Our families died in that bombing. Whether Westalis or Ostania started it, it’s no way for anyone to die.” I spoke, closely eyeing ####’s finger as he held it on the trigger.
“Well, I’m in the exact same boat!” he spoke.
        #### gritted his teeth and kicked the man down to the ground, his glasses getting knocked off his face. Just then, gunfire from the bushes danced in the wind, causing me to yelp and duck to the ground, helpless as a I felt a searing pain in my side and leg. A bullet hit ####’s helmet, but luckily it didn’t pierce it.
“Gah! The Ostanian army squad that’s been chasing me! You just had to try and shoot me and give our position away!” the man complained. “Well, no way in hell I’m letting them catch me! See ya! Thanks for the cigarettes, I guess.” He yelled, running away.
I crawled to #### using my body to protect his down body.
His ears are probably ringing since the metal helmet just got hit. I thought.
“If you can run, go away. I’ll be fine.” I spoke through the gunfire.
        #### huffed, getting up on his knees and picking me and his gun up.
“I’m not gonna abandon you! Not when I have the power to save you!” #### yelled through the bullets.
        I sighed.
He’s just as stubborn as me. But he should really let me die. It’s not like there’s anyone alive who’d miss me, and ####’s using me as a replacement for the friends he couldn’t save. So there’s no point for me to live, and all I’ve been is useless and problematic. I couldn’t save any of my friends, family, comrades, or even myself.
“Thanks for being such a suck-up.” I spoke, wincing at each step he took since it threw my body around like a rag doll, hurting my wounds.
“Let’s save the tears for when we get back alive.” He gruffed.         .         .
What am I doing? Getting emotional like this? I hate getting emotional. I thought, snapping out of my thoughts and rubbing the tears from my eyes. I guess that's another reason I quit being a spy. I thought.
I don't really like to use violence anymore. I'll fight and shoot if I have to, but I don't like turning to it unless it's necessary. I'm afraid if I pick up a gun again, then all of my anger and sadness would return and control my actions just like it did before.
...That's stupid. I can't believe I just lied to myself in my own head.
The real reason I don't want to fight is because it hurts more than anyone can imagine. When people see war movies or read the books, they always think "yeah, I can do that." But once the first bullet flies, they all follow. When the sky has turn gray from tank smoke and fires from the bombings. When the bullets fall from the sky like rain and you're ordered to engage in battle; you don't want to. Who would want to?
Nobody wants to actually die. When they're in the face of danger, they're looking for a way to fight or a way to flee. When you're actually experiencing something as stressful and traumatic as that, you realize that every plan you've been brainstorming inside that little head of yours had ran away with your bravery and rationality. The only thing you'll be thinking of is a way out, a way away from the men in guns, a place to hide or a weapon to protect yourself with. Humans are made with fear; it's how we survive.
Fear is a human's best friend and worst nemesis. Fear navigates you away from danger, and it also forces you to think unclear. Fear is one of the human's survival instincts, so when you find it hard to breathe or your chest starts racing; don't ignore it.
I sighed, turning my body to Yuri and observing his face.
He's seriously so annoying. He's always so focused on work and how I'll betray him. He's probably always thinking about his sister, I wouldn't be surprised if he was dreaming about her. I thought, reaching my hand up and letting my intrusive thoughts win as I poked his injured forehead lightly, just barley any touch.
"You. Are. Stupid." I spoke, believing the words I said with every poke. "But..." I paused, thinking of what to say to the unconscious Yuri. "I don't think I'd want to be anyone else's wife." I admitted. "Don't think it's a compliment though, jerk." I huffed, going back to poking his forehead until I got bored.
I sighed again, trying to close my eyes and sleep, but the silence and the dark really started to bother me. I could hear the steps of the neighbor's above us, or is there something crawling on the ceiling and watching me. I could hear the air conditioning, or is it a monster breathing? Or the neighbor's opening their doors, or is that our front door?
The bedroom door creaked open and I froze, my arms immediately latching onto Yuri as I kept quiet, my heart in my throat as I could hear it beat loudly.
Wait? What the hell am I doing?! I should be protecting Yuri since he's unconscious!
I gathered my nerves and opened my eyes, almost screaming once I saw a face staring down at me. They quickly covered my mouth, then spoke.
"Don't scream. It's me." They spoke.
I recognized the voice as Twilight's and immediately felt angry and relieved. I carefully got out of the bed, gripping Twilight's sleeve and dragging him out to the living room, delicately closing the door as to not disturb Yuri.
"I almost pissed myself, asshole!" I hissed, slapping his arm.
"Sorry..." he whispered, then cleared his throat. "I just wanted to know why you're quitting the spy industry." He spoke.
"Oh ho ho! Is the ever so great Twilight actually caring about me?" I teased, then cleared my own throat. "In actuality. I don't like risking my life all the time. It's not fun to get hurt and worry about if you'll ever see the people you love again." I sighed.
"What are you talking about? You don't have a lover—" His eyes widen, voice silently before he looked at me, mouth gaping open and shut like a fish. "Y-you actually love Yuri?! I thought you were kidding!" he questioned.
"Tsk! Of course not!" I exclaimed, slapping his hand. "I want to be able to live long enough to have a lover, and in this case, Yuri is my 'lover!'" I spoke with quotation marks on my fingers.
"How'd you meet him?" he questioned.
"Oh yeah. Some mole ratted me out like a little bitch to the SSS when he got caught, then they caught me after a long chase that lasted a few weeks, next thing you know, I'm being interviewed and signed a contract to work with the SSS in order to keep my life—" the words came out of my mouth before I could think of the consequences from them.
I started to open and close my mouth like a fish (and like what Twilight did earlier).
"So, you're leaving because they've got you hostage?" Twilight spoke.
"No! No!" I quickly shut down the idea. "Well. I mean, I don't want to work with the SSS, and I don't want to work with Westalian Intelligence either. I just want to live a normal life, but then this happened." I sighed.
"So there's nothing between you and Yuri?" he questioned.
"Nope." I spoke, popping the p.
        "And you're sure?" Twilight questioned.
"Of course I'm sure, why do you care so much?" I questioned.
"Because he's the enemy!" Twilight hissed. "That, and he's the one killing off our spies. You don't care about that?" he spoke.
"Of course I care." I snapped, offended that he would think I wouldn't. "But I'm not going to mope about the past and get myself killed. Besides, it's not like the Westalian Intelligence cares about if I ditch or not." I sighed. "But they'll kill me if they know I'm in the SSS, so you better not spill it. I told them absolutely nothing about the people in charge or even you, Twilight. So you better keep your mouth shut because I don't care if we've known each other for years or if you're the greatest spy, you cross me and I'll find a way to make you regret it." I threatened, pointing my nail to his throat.
"Alright. I understand." Twilight spoke calmly. "But you're sure there's no feelings attached?"
"Yeah. I don't need to be worrying about that stuff. I'm only here so I can live, and trust me, he doesn't care about if I live or die either." I smiled.
"I don't know, you two were quite something today." Twilight spoke, causing my face to heat up.
"W-well, of course! I didn't just work on hacking into databases or gathering information inside forces, you know. So, you're not the only one who can lie and disguise themselves. Remember, I trained alongside you, so I know almost everything you know." I spoke, turning my head away to hide my face. "Besides, he's more of a jerk behind closed doors."
I sighed, remembering his douche personality.
("Just so you know, I'm not looking for this to be a real thing. When we're in public and at work, we'll act close—but don't expect anything kind of special treatment behind closed doors. Our 'marriage' is just a piece of paper that can easily be destroyed. The only thing that we have in common is work; nothing else." The second-lieutenant spat harshly as he walked closer to me, standing tall as he looked down at me in more ways than one.)
Yeah, he's a mega douche. I thought. I still wanna know his damn problem...
        "Alright. Good." Twilight spoke.
"What about you and Yor. I don't know about you, but I almost facepalmed eight different times in five minutes. You need to get Yor to work on her acting skills." I pointed out.
"I know." He sighed. "But she's just so..." he paused, thinking. "She's a little...simple-minded, I guess."
"It runs in the Briar family." I laughed. "Now, you should leave before Yuri wakes up and freaks out. He doesn't really like you, if you haven't noticed."
"Yeah." He spoke, fixing his coat. "Thanks for your hard work at the Westalian Intelligence. I hope we'll meet again."
"Don't think because I'm leaving the force that you're never going to see me again. You've been a close friend of mine for years now, so I consider you my family. Besides, we're in-laws." I teased. "And even if we never see each other, I'll just haunt your ass from beyond the grave." I joked.
Twilight chuckled. "I wouldn't expect anything less. Goodbye, (Y/N)." He spoke.
        "Bye, ####." I responded.
He stood there for a second, shocked to hear his birth name after so long of using Twilight, before smiling and parting.
I'm not too sure why they gave #### the codename "Twilight" but I know they gave me the codename "Vixen" because I usually went undercover, disguising myself in the night and manipulating others to get information out of them (I'm not too fond of it either, but I convinced myself that business is business).
When we got our codenames, we were told that our old names meant nothing and that our old lives don't matter anymore. I agreed to the terms, but there was no way I was gonna forget my past, not when it's made me the person I am today.
Twilight left, closing the front door as I locked it. I looked at the time, noticing it was 1 A.M.
Damn. Tonight's been a long one. I thought, sighing as I stretched and walked back to the bedroom.
Yuri was still dead asleep. I carefully observed his face to make sure he wasn't faking it in case he heard the conversation. I grabbed Flower and dangled it over his head, seeing for a reaction, but none. I poked his cheek, making sure his eyes didn't twitch before concluding he wasn't faking it.
Good. It must be the alcohol that made him pass out. I thought.
I crawled back into bed, placing Flower in my arms and lying on my side to face away from Yuri. I concluded I didn't like the position, and switched to facing Yuri. He was still in the same spot as earlier, still facing me. I grabbed his hand and held it, believing that his position was comfortable enough before sleeping.

@you-all-forget-my-name , wonderful idea! Bring @the-angel-muriel to the bat house party in Hell!
Muriel is an ideal cultural ambassador for Heaven, actually. They're kind, polite, and curious. Everyone likes them! They're the perfect person to show that Heaven isn't just a bunch of bad cop stuffed-shirt stereotypes.
And you, you're our best intelligence officer for a reason. You know how to be surreptitious and keep your eyes and ears open.
Plus I love that you're into fiber arts now, it's so Norn of you!
So yeah, definitely bring Muriel with you when we have the bat house making party. Having a couple of the least threatening looking angels in the ranks to help with the crafts and show off the cute animals is the perfect idea.
It's not like I need an actual security detail anyway, besides just you noticing stuff that I don't. I have slapped demons into low earth orbit before and it just kind of makes my palm sting.

I never understood the humor of rubber chickens until my friend and I were in a novelty shop one time and we saw these giant rubber chickens labeled "ONLY SQUEAK ONCE."
So naturally this piqued our interest. That degree of retail employee aggravation doesn't happen randomly. We had to squeak it.
So my friend squeezes this thing and you can hear it inhale. It gasps in air like a 75 year old pack-a-day smoker. wwwhhhhhheeeeEEEEEEZE. You can FEEL the tension in the air while you're holding this thing tight. By this point we were already losing our shit at what we were about to witness.
He lets go and the trumpets of hell ring out over the novelty shop. Immediately we understood that the "one squeak" rule was not only to protect the employees, but also to spare every neighbor within a mile radius. I did not know a piece of plastic could produce that sound. This is the gift you give to the children of people who ratted you out to the cops. This is a thing you use to euthanize small animals. I cannot possibly commit the sound it made to text, but if I tried, it would be "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
We absolutely lost it. My stomach hurt so bad from laughing. I wanted to buy it but I knew I could never let it squawk again, lest we get noise complaints and/or permanently damage our hearing. But it was in this moment, where we were dying with laughter at a giant rubber chicken, that I understood the longstanding tradition of crafting roosters from plastic to make them wail ungodly wails.
