POV: You, a figurehead of a nation, have travelled to another land for a meeting as a messenger of your nation’s status of the captivity of a prisoner you were entrusted with. You were relatively calm before your presentation, your speech practiced, and your spirit as light as your feet on the ground. However, before you conceived to give your testimony, a friend of yours (who had diplomatic immunity in the land) drew all the attention in the meeting to himself. He regaled his hardships with traveling as a man set to govern one day. He spoke of the nearly two decades he had spent tracking your prisoner, a War Criminal in many of the other representative’s territories, at the behest of the wisest in your vicinity, a martyr of your generation. You learn of the struggle to capture the murderer that constantly evaded him. A priceless heirloom is brought up in the conversation, as how could it not be? It was the cause of the very meeting. Several nations were called upon to contemplate its destruction as none could escape its manipulation, its corruption greater than that of money could ever tempt. And it was your convict that held possession of it before his imprisonment. Your friends admits that he is glad that the fiend is in chains, not hounding after the nephew of a treasured comrade of a sovereign kingdom, a friend of its King before his untimely death in battle. You shake in your seat unnoticed as you begin to realize that maybe the daily walks for your detainee through the forest should not have existed. You are next to speak. Your tongue feels heavy. You are shitting your pants. You are Legolas Greenleaf, Crown Prince of Mirkwood.

Rivendell - by AZED
His house [Elrond's] was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Evil things did not come into that valley." J.R.R Tolkien

I love Glorfindel at the Council of Elrond.
And, I mean, if they went with it, it wouldn’t have been the first time someone tossed a highly sought after artifact into the sea

I like to think Elrond has punched Sauron in the face. Specifically during the whole Annatar period of time. I feel like Sauron definitely tried to convince Elrond to work with him. Being a part Maia through Luthien (who Sauron definitely still holds a grudge against) would be enough but he’s also one of Fingolfin’s descendants not even to get started on the Edain side of things. And then he sees him fight and the style is almost identical to that of Maedhros Feanorion. So Annatar almost definitely approached him.
And when he tries this he probably tries to probe at all Elrond’s issues. There are a lot of issues to probe at. But Elrond just gets angry. How dare this sketchy motherfucker start trying to convince me my parents didn’t care about me. That’s my emotional trauma and I’ll work through it myself thank you very much. He also knew something was up with this guy the second he met him. Every single bone in his body was telling him to slit this guy’s throat where he stood. He restrains himself purely to avoid causing an incident for Gil Galad to deal with. He settles for decking him and then walking away. He is very much done with enchanted jewellery made by sketchy people coming to elf lords in disguise. He had enough of that in the first age.
I just feel like the Council of Elrond gets way funnier if when Elrond’s doing his recap he just drops in ‘and then I broke darkness personified’s nose,’ before continuing as if he hadn’t said anything. Sauron maintains a healthy wariness of Elrond into the third age. Yes Arwen looks like Luthien and that’s scary but she also looks like a combination of her father and Galadriel and if that’s not terrifying nothing is.

'Alas! alas!' cried Legolas, and in his fair elvish face there was great distress. 'The tidings that I was sent to bring must now be told. They are not good, but only here have I learned how evil they may seem to this company. Sméagol, who is now called Gollum, has escaped.'
'Escaped?' cried Aragorn. 'That is ill news indeed. We shall all rue it bitterly, I fear. How came the folk of Thranduil to fail in their trust?'
'Not through lack of watchfulness,' said Legolas; 'but perhaps through over-kindliness. And we fear that the prisoner had aid from others, and that more is known of our doings than we could wish. We guarded this creature day and night, at Gandalf's bidding, much though we wearied of the task. But Gandalf bade us hope still for his cure, and we had not the heart to keep him ever in dungeons under the earth, where he would fall back into his old black thoughts.'
'You were less tender to me,' said Glóin with a flash of his eyes as old memories were stirred of his imprisonment in the deep places of the Elven-king's halls.
'Now come!' said Gandalf. 'Pray do not interrupt, my good Glóin. That was a regrettable misunderstanding, long set right. If all the grievances that stand between Elves and Dwarves are to be brought up here, we may as well abandon this Council.'
Legolas revealing Gollum's escape from Mirkwood and Glóin referencing his imprisonment on the Quest of Erebor. Fellowship of the Ring, The Council of Elrond

honestly hats off to boromir for fighting mordor directly in gondor, walking for 100 days through dangerous lands, and coming to an elf conference to hear a bunch of condescending elves and a wizard (elves who openly admit to failing to do what to him must seem like basic things, like keeping an eye on gollum) who to his knowledge aren’t on the front lines, aren’t fighting as hard as Gondor to defend the realm talk about their plans for battle with mordor which to someone outside of their circle sounds like a whole lot of nothing, and not throwing hands. he’s gotta sit there, knowing that his comrades (including his brother) are back home fighting of a slew of orcs, and has to listen patiently to elves saying “what if we took this powerful weapon to this forgetful guy in the woods… then what?”. he has to witness these people, who to him look like they probably have the power to defeat sauron, hand off an all-powerful tool to this little guy, who looks like orc’s breakfast. the fact that he didn’t say anything like “oh, you’ve decided to evacuate to the grey havens? our women and children are stuck inside minas tirith. travel has been so difficult lately because of the threat your ancestors failed to quell :/ don’t worry though, all our warriors are constantly fighting orcs and such right outside our city, as i’m sure your warriors are doing too” is absolutely beyond me

Nothing is as hilarious in the lotr books as Frodo casually telling Elrond he is seriously old.
Like...Frodo....you are sitting there with people from Gondolin (minimally one) ...highly probably with some elf from before Age of Trees too (I am sure there are some of Finwe's friends).......AND A FCKING MAIYA.
And you tell Elrond he is old.
Omg Frodo

At the Council of Elrond, Frodo takes note of all the people he's never seen before. Among them is Legolas, who's described as "a strange Elf clad in green and brown".
