Fairy's Tale

A/n: Sorry for the long wait, I'm so busy with school ;-; i'll try to update more regularly.

Chapter 2: Crystal and Her

“No, I’m not. I’m just a traveler, that’s all” - (y/n) answered Leopold’s question.

This strike Fuegoleon’s interest a lot.

From their interaction and the way she speaks and reacts to his actions, Fuegoleon was sure that if she’s not a royalty then she must be a noble. There’s no way a simple commoner could behave in such a way as an upper class could. This made Fuegoleon very surprised. Where is she from? Why did she lies? Those are the questions running through his head at the moment. Yet, he did not ask a single one of them. He thinks she must have a reason to lie, at the same time, it could be quite dangerous if he let another Kingdom’s royalty roam freely in the Capital.

“Then, would you want a little tour of the Capital miss?” - Fuegoleon suggested, this is the perfect opportunity to figure out who this girl is and what is her intention here in the Clover Kingdom. That’s what Fuegoleon thought. But to other, the suggestion is a sign that the Magic Knight Captain took an interest in the mysterious girl.

“Would you not take a rest for the day brother?” - Leopold asks, not forgetting their reason to even enter the cafe.

“No need Leo, a walk around the Capital would be just as nice” - Fuegoleon said - “So, what do you think miss (y/n)?”

‘This is great. A free tour around, there’s no reason to decline’ - (y/n) thinks, completely unaware of the red head’s motive.

“That would be lovely”

“Hahaha ok then, I’ll leave you two to it. I’ll be continuing my patrol now” - Leopold said, waving at them before turning a corner to continue his duties.

The two started their tour around the Capital, the Magic Knight Captain asks (y/n) questions from time to time.

“Miss (y/n), may I ask where you came from?”- He asks, wanting to know more of her profile.

‘Ah shoot, I didn’t think this through’ - (y/n) panic a little - “How about you take a guest, Sir Vermillion?”

‘Smart’ - He thinks - “Huhm… well, from the way you dress, I would say somewhere hot.”

“Close, go on” - She encourages him, wanting him to just blur out a random name and she is just gonna agree with it.

“I’m not sure. There's a lot of Kingdom with hot weather. I don’t want to disrespect your orientation” - He dodged her trap completely. - ‘Now what are you gonna say’

‘Damn this guy. Come on, think. A country in the human world. It doesn’t have to be hot, I can come up with an excuse later’ - “Mali. I came from Mali”

“Oh is that so. You came from a very beautiful country indeed.” - Fuegoleon said - ‘Mali…I’ve never heard of this country before’

This went on as Fuegoleon kept asking more and more questions to know more about (y/n) reason of coming to the Capital and each time, (y/n) would avoid the question or just make up nonsense for answers.

‘This is not how I imagine the tour would be like’ - (y/n) cried inside.

Then, at the corner of her (e/c) eyes, she saw a shop, a crystal shop to be exact. Spotting how (y/n) keeps looking in that direction, Fuegoleon turns his head and a small shop greets his eyes. Thinking that maybe if she lets her guard down, he would be able to pull more information from her, Fuegoleon suggested:

“Would you like to visit that shop?” - He asked, leaning down slightly

“Would you mind?” - (y/n) said, genuinely wanting to go visit that shop. Unlike humans who think crystal is just a decoration, to fairies, crystal can be used as a decor, a healer, it’s a symbol in the Fairy’s Forest. That’s why (y/n) wanted to see what kind of crystal the humans have in store.

“Not at all.”

And with that, they headed to the store. In there, the floor and walls are all made of wood, there’s crystal everywhere. The shop owner spotted the Crimson Lion’s Captain and immediately jumped on the opportunity.

“My, my, what does the great Magic Knight Captain need in my humble shop?” - He says, trying to lick Fuegoleon’s boots.

“I’m here to accompany my friend” - He replies.

The shop owner turns his head and is greeted with a beautiful girl with (h/c) and (e/c). ‘This must be someone important if she’s a friend of a Royal’, thinks the shop owner. He thinks he must present whatever most of the people of wealth and status fancy, expensive and rare products. He takes out a small box with intricate details all over its surface.

“Well, it looks like you just got here at the perfect time, miss. What you see here is THE Fairy Crystal that the Fairy Queen blessed herself with!” - He said in a high tone.

‘My mother? What in the world? This must be a scam’ - (Y/n) said, already feel like leaving this place.

“Is this some kind of joke?” - (Y/n) asked deadpan.

“M-my Lady, why would you ask such a question! Who am I to even dare to trick you? Of course not! This crystal was blessed by the Fairy Queen herself, it can even bring good fortune too. I can guarantee you that!”- said the owner.

Knowing that is not true one bit as the Fairy Queen hasn’t blessed a single soul for thousands of years let alone crystals. And even if it is blessed by the Queen, there will be no chance of the artifact being sold in this store.

‘Is he trying to joke around? No. He’s trying to fool me into buying that thing. How unfortunate.’

“Is there something not to your liking, my Lady?” - Fuegoleon asks, noticing (y/n)’s change in behavior.

“Sir Vermillion…” - (y/n) trailed off. - “Do you perhaps have any kind of relation with the owner?”

“Hm? No, what made you ask that question, miss (y/n)?” - Fuegoleon asks not knowing what make (y/n) thinks that the two of them are related. If the owner is a Vermillion, there’s a high chance that he would know that the shop existed earlier today.

(y/n) gestures Fuegoleon to come closer. Him, understanding what she meant, leaned down with his arms now crossed across his chest.

“I think that the shop owner is trying to scam us” - she said with a serious tone.

Fuegoleon raised one of his brown.

“What makes you think so, miss (y/n)?” - he questions.

“I think it’s quite clear that that crystal was not blessed by the Fairy Queen, besides, it looks kinda dull, there’s nothing special about it except for its color. If I’m not wrong then it’s just a cheaper type crystal in a luxury box.” - she whispers in his ear, not wanting the owner to overheard them.

This took Fuegoleon by surprise.

‘She knows a lot about crystals’

‘Smart’

‘Is Mali a country that has a close connection with crystal?’

All of this runs through his head at the speed of light. All of this he can’t answer, but he knows for sure that (y/n)’s right about the scam.

“Hahaha, thank you Sir for the offer. I will send people over later.” - Fuegoleon said to the owner. His hand guiding (y/n) out of the shop. This make (y/n) feels so betrayed. Why does he want to send people over? Does he not believe her? What? Whyyy??

After escorting a confused (y/n) out of the shop. Taking in what had just happened, (y/n) snapped, creating more distance between the two of them. Facing the redhead, (y/n) browns slightly scrunched together, her eyes are staring holes through the man’s face. Cold sweats lightly drip down Fuegoleon’s forehead. It looks like he’s trying to come up with something, some kind of excuse.

Extra headcannons of this AU about the aftermath of the incident :

Mereo after the incident only stayed for the funeral and leave to the forest never visiting the kingdom again

Fue who was a Captain and House Head at that time couldn't grieve properly so after work he would go to Leo's grave and spend time there with Leo

Noelle started to be more determined to be a magic knight since it was one of Leo's dreams and she wanted to honor him in a way

Mimosa was more determined to be a better healer so that she could heal anybody so no one she loved would leave like Leo did

Kirsch on the other hand act like canon did but he would care more for Noelle and Mimosa more (and Mimosa wouldn't mind Kirsch much like canon did)

Ever since Leo was killed, the Vermilion family would cut communication with their grandparents knowing there involvement with Leo's death

Most of the kingdom didn't know Leo even existed because Leo is always busy with training that he didn't attend most events but there would still be rumors about the third Vermilion being the little brother of the Captain of the Crimson Lions

After that event, Fue would be more pissed off with the Nobles for badmouthing he's little brother, he would immediately reply to their statement with if your going to badmouth him you should leave now

The Crimson Lions doesn't know anything about Leo at all and they would wonder the questionable items in their captain's desk

The Captains would give their condolences for Fue and give him some space knowing how much he means to him

Fue would always dream of Leo and sometimes nightmares about him about Leo asking him why did he leave him alone and demanding him to come back he sometimes wonder why he did it too

Fue personality would be like canon but he would be more defensive about someone insulting somebody because of what happen to his brother

Fue would keep most of his brother's item and there would be a picture of Leo at his room and desk

The Crimson Lions would be curious about the boy in the picture at the captain's desk because of how much he looks like him

Randall would be the one who asked Fue and would be shock when he reveals that the boy was his younger brother , Him being curious would ask him what happen to him and Fue would sigh and had a regretful look. Randall noticing his expression would said that he didn't need to answer him and apologize but Fue would chuckle and said he died two years ago that would shook Randall making him to apologize about bringing him up with Fue being it's alright you didn't know

The news about the rumor would spread fast around the squad about the captain's younger brother and the squad for a few days would give Fue sympathetic looks with Fue just giving them bitter smiles

When Asta showed up in the entrance exam, Fue would look at him and reminded him about Leo but since he doesn't wanna be biased about it he didn't raised his hand after the selection

Considering David Swallow is a nobleman, I assume the two already met during childhood.

Probably in a banquet where all nobles (and royals, since Leo is one) gathered. Let's say it's a festival or a political celebration for example.

Leopold is, as we already know, a boisterous little brat. I headcanon him as the type who finds it hard to sit still as a child, and is always in a constant need to move.

Sure everyone is having fun, chatting and dancing. But little Leo has a different definition of his fun.

So because of this, he accidentally knocked over little David while running around.

Of course we won't miss Fuegoleon or Mereoleona shouting warnings in the background.

David, as a relaxed person he is even as a child, didn't make too much of a fuss other that letting out a soft "ouch" as his but hit the floor.

Of course, Leopold was still raised with morals and manners. He offered his hand to help David stand.

"I'm sorry" he said with his big turquoise eyes swimming in unshed tears of guilt.

David replied with "It's okay, it didn't hurt much"

Leo gave out a toothy grin, asked him to play—which he said yes to.

So they hung out with each other for the rest of the night. (Actually, not just that night because it followed more "playtimes")

They practically grew up together.

In all honestly, if they ever grow to be distant, it would be because they belonged in different squads—hence different missions.

But if they ever landed in a joint mission, they would be a pretty coordinated duo even without means of communication.

Their relationship would be described as brotherly rather than just being friends.

And if ever they both land in a romantic relationship with each other, their means of finding out would be out of self realization.

Because hey they've known each other since. And what else is a better pillar for a healthy relationship is other than comfort, mutual trust, and support for each other?

"Golden Deer is boring though it's lackluster, the characters aren't as strong as the other paths there's less conflict-"

You fool. You absolute buffon. Golden Deer is perfectly designed. Not only does it feed into the whole "alliance" theme well by having the characters still work together despite their differences and feelings well before hitting those A supports, but it's ALSO the only route that actually puts the focus on YOU the player. Or, rather, Byleth themself

Black Eagle is about whether or not you can agree to Edelgard's ideals of acceptable sacrifice and perspective that there's only 1 way to do things. The branching happens when you decide whether or not you agree, but ultimately it just explores opposing or agreeing with Edelgard. Anything more than that is really just incidental to that main concept, whether it's Crimson Flower or Silver Snow, the entire time you're focused either on helping Edelgard achieve her goals or you're focused on showing her how wrong she is alongside the Black Eagles who think it's their duty to correct Edelgard's wrongs (and I have a whole separate thing in regards to how the cast acts in Crimson Flower verses Silver Snow). It works really well for characters designed around an empire, a domineering form of government where (usually) a singular ruler determines the course and focus

Blue Lions is focused entirely on working on past issues and learning to bring yourself into the present, but it's done almost entirely through the cast more than the player. The Blue Lions themselves all have their own traumas and deep-seated past issues that hinder or help progress. While both Blue Lions and Black Eagles have a lot in common when it comes to traumatized characters and ideology, the ideology is front and center, while in Boue Lions, their interpersonal conflicts are front and center. This shows especially in the final (non romance) scene, where Dimitri decides that his personal attachment to Edelgard and past memories still matter, and he reaches out a hand, despite her immediately trying to kill him. It's fitting for a route designed around a kingdom, which is usually built entirely on interpersonal dealings between the ruling class

Golden Deer, however, is designed very differently. Unlike the other 3 routes, the player, or more specifically Byleth, is put as the driving force instead of the Lord. And this is actually what makes Golden Deer such a good route and one with the best ending of all of them. Claude has ideals, but he isn't a person who wants to force others to follow his path like Edelgard. Claude has lived a life of strife where his past motivates him, but it doesn't chain him the same way it does Dimitri. Instead, he works on understanding everyone around him and working together towards agreed upon goals, while taking on stuff that isn't agreed upon onto himself. But more than that, while all the Lord's value your opinion, Claude is the only one who actually takes what Byleth wants (rather than just what they think about specific matters) into consideration for his plans. Repeatedly you tell Seteth in Silver Snow that you don't want to kill Edelgard, but he pushes that you have no choice. Pretty much the entire first half of Azure Moon is Dimitri ignoring you. And in Crimson Flower, you've all but completely submitted to Edelgard's will with a couple of exceptions (which actually proves my point because it's specifically in regards to the Golden Deer because you can fight the entirety of Crimson Flower while sparing all of them except for Judith). But in Verdant Wind, Claude doesn't hide that he has a problem with the church and wants Rhea gone. In Golden Wildfire, without Byleth, he's more than happy to just get rid of her without a second thought. But when Byleth is the protagonist, he goes out of his way to accommodate your wants into his plans and goals. When you express as the player that you want to reason with Edelgard and ponder if you can't walk the same path, Claude agrees with you and says he'll make it happen if he can, with the other Golden Deer mostly agreeing. When that,can't happen you both lament the fact that Edelgard gave you no choice together. He makes finding Rhea a priority, mostly because as curious as he is in general, he wants to help you find out answers only Rhea can give you. And all of the Golden Deer do this to some extent, with each other but also with you as the player. I think Hilda and Marianne's A supports with Byleth show this best personally, but that's a personal opinion. And it just works so well for a route designed around the idea of an alliance, people coming together and agreeing to work towards a goal bigger than themselves

And that's not to say the other routes aren't as good as Golden Deer, they're all equally well written, but it just makes me sad when I see people giving the Golden Deer route grief just because the characters aren't the same when it does its theme so beautifully

thought i should share this piece i did in february.. definitely one of my favorite drawings. [ quote is from grief lessons: four plays by euripides ]
