Reading preview:
“Why on God’s green earth do ya have an anti-mutant collar under your pillow, Cajun?”
Gambit raises his hands in surrender. “Would you believe Remy if he said it a weddin’ gift?”
“Course Ah wouldn’t!”
Gambit blinks and realizes Rogue has closed the distance between them when he wasn’t paying attention, her other palm splaying over his heart as if assuring it still functions. She might feel it threatening to beat out of his chest just to get closer to her. Close enough to touch.
Her pretty nose wrinkles up at him. “Start talkin’ or Ah’m confiscatin’ it.”
The cursed thing was borrowed, contrary to anyone’s knowledge, from Professor Xavier’s vault of precarious items assembled along the walls like war medals. Science projects. Doo-dads. Gadgets weaponized against the mutant menaces, or something to that headache-inducing extent. Gambit had been raised and honed a thief, and the vault hadn’t been particularly reinforced to prevent a nightly excursion or two.
“It not like anyone else were usin’ it,” he says. “Gambit wanted to see if it help him sleep.”
Rogue’s eyebrow quirks. “You’re a terrible liar for such a petty thief.”
Perhaps he’s just bad at lying to her (and Storm, because that woman possesses an uncanny third eye for punching straight through his nonsense). She only caught him at all because he was bad at hiding secrets from her, too, and noticed the collar peering out from under his pillow in the middle of an otherwise casual pass to bid him goodnight.
“Maybe you just got a good eye,” he replies.
“Why do ya have it, really? Can't keep avoidin’ my questions, Swamp Rat, or Ah’ll just keep houndin’ ya like a fly to a horse’s rear.”
“Dat sounds promisin’. I quite like havin’ you around, chere.”
Her expression shifts, all at once too sad for him to endure, and to his horror, the honesty reaches her eyes. Bella Donna looked the same way the night he left her behind.
His gut fills with concrete and he catches her hand in his. “Anna—”
“Please, Remy. For once could ya be honest with me?”
The truth: he wears it as needed like a cool hand to a fever, such a temporary relief from the reality of the agony gradually building inside of him, a soda bottle shaken to the edge of expulsion. He’s been enduring too many days lately with his nail under the cap of disaster. A single night with the collar has been enough of a momentary relief to realign his power for a week or two, at least, though sleeping in it has given him such an awful crick behind his shoulder he can’t reach.
The truth: such information will regularly intercept his routine with long days under Ol’ One Eye’s watch and more concerned glances than he knows how to deflect. He neither wants to worry Rogue nor hurt anyone who isn’t himself when the situation inevitably goes tits-up, so the collar has been his long term short-term contingency plan.
The truth: he’s scared of hurting Rogue.
The truth: he’s scared.

Excluding your main blorbos, which X-Men member would you love to write the most?
Gosh, idk tbh!! There's a lot of other mutants that are very cool to me, so it's hard to decide 😂
I would write a gambit x reader in a heartbeat tbh, just a one shot to get it all out. I really like Magneto, mystique, jubilee, and storm too tho but they would all be more like character studies I think lol. Although if I had to choose one.... I'd go for mystique.
It's like, yeah yeah, I know she's Kurt's mom and all, but it's actually really not about that tbh. I think she's very interesting and has a lot of potential for a "discovery/questioning of self" type story, which I do so enjoy. Basically, her thing is that she can be anyone she wants to be right? She can look as normal as any human, or.... She can not.
There's a surprisingly well written scene in the animated series where she just straight up tells Kurt "yeah, I threw you off that cliff bc I enjoy easy living by disguising myself as rich women and replacing them, and you were inconvenient for my lifestyle". She also tells him that basically, while yes, humans shun him for his appearance it's like " well boohoo" bc he at least has his own identity, while she on the other hand claims she is distrusted even by her fellow mutants, simply bc it's so easy for her to be anyone else that she feels she has no identity of her own. The curse of a shape shifter, if you will.
This concept of "should I look human to fit better into society or should I be true to myself, difficult as it may be" is also explored in X-Men first class, and when it looks like maaaaaybe she does want to be her true, blue form, beast basically smashes her heart and calls her ugly when looking like that djsjsjdjd which is a whole other topic about what chased her over to Eric, but yeah.
Anyway, I don't know what exact plot and all I'd write for her, but I do think there's soooo much that could be explored with her emotional state and world view, it could make a pretty deep character study if I could pull it off. Just, there's so much weight that could be put into either side of the "fake looking human and lose the real me in the process/embrace looking mutant and get shunned by most for it" argument, it would be fascinating to see what she would choose if she was out in a particular situation and made to confront it. But mostly it's interesting bc, whatever she chooses.... She's not exactly wrong either way.
Who knows, maybe she's right to want to put on a constant facade and hide her true nature? Or, maybe she could take Magneto's speech about being her real self, and instead grow to be her own person instead of manipulated into his assassin/spy under the guise of acceptance.

Storm Reading Guide (2000s - 2010s)
Tumblr media
X-TREME MEASURES
Storm founded X-treme X-men on a search for Destiny's Diaries. Their mission tests her will, values, perseverance, and trust. The X-treme X-men risks themselves to save everything, and this collection of Storm's journey is a wild one. Interdimensional trysts, battle arenas, and more.

Mother's Land
X.S.E is the successor to the X-treme X-men led by Storm. However, they're now an international task force dealing with mutant matters. As Storm leads her team across the planet to deal with threats, she has another calling to her homeland she hasnt had since childhood. Seeing the lands Ororo was worshipped on as Goddess of the Storm reminded her of purpose as a protector before she was an X-man. An event known as M Day left 98% of mutants depowered, causing an international power vacuum and mass genocide. This forces Storm to travel across her homeland to put an end to the anti-mutant violence at its source. Her return to Africa opens doors of the past, tackle conflicts in present, and leads to questions for her future.

Reign of Love and War.
As mutant-kind is facing extinction and are at the center stage of public opinion, Storm's role as mutant leader, X-man, and hero enters the political arena when she agrees to marry into the royal family of Wakanda. Her responsibilities to mutantkind, division in superhero community, and the rise of international and internal political tensions places Ororo's in a position where her words and actions will impact the world. Her reign as Queen begins with a royal progress across the Marvel Universe to being the face of an international resistance against the authoritarian regime created by fellow superheroes in Civil War.

Mutant-Queen
Storm roles overlap in a series of conflicts both external and internal. The X-men creates a new home off the shores of San Francisco as a sanctuary and defense of mutantdom. In Wakanda, extremist factions reach out of the shadows after a fatal accident within the royal family creates an era of change. This collection follows an eruption of tensions in Storm's worlds of mutants and royalty; her presence as an American-born Kenyan, mutant, goddess, royal, and X-man act as both a symbol of progress and destruction. The Future of Wakanda and Mutantkind call her to fight.

Survival
Storm stands with mutankind in a fight for survival. As enemies seem to be relentlessly plotting against Utopia, the nation and sanctuary for mutants and human kin, the X-men question their methods to make mutants safety and survival certain. The X-men experience an unprecedented ideological and literal split in ranks to pursue their own ways of guiding mutantkind. The Pheonix Force return for Hope Summers pits the X-men against the Avengers, who assumed jurisdiction and authority over Hope, who the X-men believe may be the key to reversing M-day. Meanwhile, Storm and her husband's loyalties are tested in the conflict which continues to escalate into irreversible harm.

Return of the Goddess
The effects of the battle against the Avengers has an irreversible impact on the X-men and mutantkind, especially Storm. Mutantkind is reborn at the cost of lives and morale. Storm's marriage is annulled and she is exiled from a throne she defended, protected, and ruled. The X-men are, again, split in half, this time over the death of Charles Xavier. In this collection, Storm's efforts to heal from the past adversity and protect the future places her back in leadership to resolve and strengthen the bonds with her fellow family: the X-men, she joins X-Force to battle new threats while healing old wounds, and reunites with foes and friends and family alike.

Lady of the X-men
Tumblr media
X-man, Headmistress, Goddess, Lover, Hero. Storm is many things and the one constant is her willingness to protect and better the world for everyone. This collection follows Storm navigating her life and many responsibilities. She currently leads her own team of X-men in adventures across the world. At home, the Jean Grey school, she teaches the next generation of mutants and guide them through hardships of adolescence and mutant identity. Storm also has solo missions helping communities all over the world to stay true to herself. In her heart, her relationship with Logan deepens as they share the drastic changes in their lives while worrying about the future. Ororo is one woman. One powerful woman with entire world watching her when they aren't in constant need of saving. Balance is her best friend.

War Is In The Air
Tumblr media
Mutants are once again plagued with hate, but this time, it's in the form of M-pox caused by the Terrigen Mists. Storm creates the Extraordinary X-men to defend mutantdom's existence and event votes for war. Ororo retires leadership in X-men Gold and reunites with Jean in X-men Red. She contends with her past, gods, alternate realities, and uses her power to support Wakanda in need, and meets with the ladies of Marvel. This collection covers a contemptuous time in the X-office and Storm's sporadic journey throughout, before the Krakoa era debut, which I've already created a guide for Storm.

more cursed concepts for mutants in the mcu:
- jubilee somehow uses tik tok to stop a villain and the x-men realize maybe technology isn’t so bad
- tony stark bullied charles xavier when they went to private school together and now charles wants revenge
- magneto and wanda get no interaction. literally none (although maybe we’re better off if that happens)
- berto’s parents were part of a drug trafficking crime ring in brazil and that’s why they’re rich
- bobby is revealed to be bisexual in the comics mere days before his mcu debut and this way they can shamelessly give him a female love interest
- nightcrawler isn’t blue for some reason
- mystique and destiny are very very close friends who raise a child together for funsies
- gambit and rogue have general american accents instead of southern accents
- the stepford cuckoos are emma’s long lost sisters, not her daughters/clones
- the new mutants are all played by 30 year olds despite all the characters said to be 14
- wolverine and yelena belova fucked once
- chris pratt desperately wants his character to start dating kitty so fans will forget he’s supposed to be bisexual and polyamorous
- the x-men get their own disney plus show and there’s a musical episode like in riverdale
- emma frost doesn’t show any cleavage because the actress thinks it’s impractical for someone to dress “skimpy” while they fight. also worth noting: the actress sees emma’s comic wardrobe as an obstacle to be reformed and not an opportunity for dressing up and portraying a confident woman who owns her sexuality
- the psylocke (betsy) actress is white and doesn’t give a shit about fixing the notoriously racist aspects of her character. she’s just here to “represent bisexuality” for white women… *cough* leah williams energy
- scott summers’ actor thinks scott is stupid (if the actor playing/writing/voicing scott is not extremely dedicated to the character, it’s not gonna go well)
- jean grey’s actor calls jean a “psycho” in every interview for phoenix saga shit
- storm has a natural 1C hair texture
- rahne is still a homophobe but she’s not a repressed gay… she’s just a straight homophobe

D&D Classes as Superheroes!
For when you wanna play a superhero-themed game, but don't got your hands on Mutants & Masterminds
Artificer: Your 'super powers' come from the various tech and gadgets you build. This is your Batmen/women, Ironman, and the Atom. Punisher can also fit here if you count 'gun' as a superpower, but I feel that's more like a Gunslinger!Fighter, lol.
Barbarian: Strength is absolute! How you get your strength varies, but you literally strong arm villains. From Hulk to Juggernaut; Wolverine can also fit in here, as can Aquaman. Superman in a sense ca fit here, but I'd suggest Paladin for reasons below. Really, any superhero with a focus on Strength can fit here if you're stuck.
Bard: This requires a lot of stretching; your hero can run the gambit from jovial and charismatic to demanding and masterful. This can be Spiderman & The Flash due to their quips or Magneto and Professor X due to their abilities to inspire and manipulate. You can be more literal, with characters like Pied Piper.
Blood Hunter: You come straight from the Dark Age of Comics; your powers come at a terrible price. One could consider them more of a curse than a blessing. Think Spawn! Venom! Kane! Hellboy! Various X-Men, but Nightcrawler comes to mind, but also see Cleric.
Cleric: Your faith is your power. A God, or Gods, have blessed you with your might. Shazam! No, really, that's my example. You could reflavor Nightcrawler as this to not play up the Mutant aspect of his character, same for Angel. Sacrilegious, but I'd argue Thor and Wonder Woman can fit in here due to the divine origin of their powers.
Druid: Nature! From plants to animals. You might need twist things a bit to justify, things, but plenty of heroes can fit in under one aspect or another. Poison Ivy & Beast Boy are the first ones that come to mind, but also Swamp Thing! Be the Avatar of the Green!
Fighter: So broad that really almost any hero can fit in here, probably cause Fighters get a wide range of set-ups. Daredevil, Deadpool & Death Stroke, Hawkgirl and Hawkman, Starfire; Wonder Woman probably fits more naturally in here. Storm and Captain Marvel would make good Eldritch Knights. I already mentioned Punisher. Green Arrow and Hawkeye would make perfect Sharpshooters and Battle Masters.
Monk: You walk the path of the Martial Artist. Iron Fist is the go-to Monk, but Daredevil & Wildcat can also fit down here too. Taskmaster and Captain American can also fit here, but check out Paladin. Good luck living up to the hype of Lady Shiva, though...
Paladin: Perfect for when you wanna play a Hero who has a strong sense of justice; a code of ethics that they must follow. Like an Oath. This is where Superman fits best thematically. Wonder Woman and Captain American can also fit here. And depending on how you play it, Batman and the rest of the Batfamily can also fit down here. Let's not forget Spiderman; with great power, there must also be great responsibility. And there's also the Green Lantern corp.
Ranger: Heroes with animal companions fit well down here, such as Squirrel Girl or The Falcon. Oh yeah, and now that we have the new Drake Warden subclass, Kitty Pryde and Lockheed can be down here! Oh, and you can make a character who got Detective Chimp on his shoulder! But also heroes with an archery theme, like Green Arrow and Hawkeye.
Rogue: When being slick and sly is the name of the game; can be a token evil teammate, but there ARE heroes with this sort of moveset. Catwoman, depending on the writer, and Harley Quinn, depending on the era, fit down here and can run with a party of heroes just fine. I'd argue that Star-Lord would fit here just fine as well.
Sorcerer: When your magic is a gift from birth. Ironically, NOT where the Sorcerer Supreme would be. A good place for Captain Marvel though, who I think is the sorcerer supreme right now(maybe?). A lot of mutants, like Storm, Cyclops, and Iceman can fit pretty comfortably here as well. Jean Grey could fit here...
Warlock: For when your powers are from some other force. If you twist it enough, Jason Blood (aka Etrigan) can work with the former acting as his patron. Raven as well. This is where I'd slap Jean Grey if I wanted to play up the Phoenix as a Patron-which would be pretty interesting and kinda kick-ass.
Wizard: The learning and practice of magic. Finally, we can play Dr. Strange! Also works well for Constantine and Zartana. Raven can also fit in here. Surprisingly not a lot of characters fit this role traditionally, but really, you could slot in a lot of characters here if you just want their powers since, well, there are a LOT of Spells that Wizards can get to emulate a ton of characters. They're the Magical to Fighter's Martial.

Weapon Hex
Chapter 1: The Runaways Run Away
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.7k
Originally Requested by: @amateurwriterbigdreamer
A/N: love that Onawa was requested to be in this! I’m not giving her a huge part until she turns into a villain so that it’s centered around Y/N for now! These are all gonna be short chapters since there’s not a whole ass movie to cover. Hope you like it!
“I said no!” You yelled at the STAR Labs scientist, who had been trying to hook up a machine to you, to observe your brain waves. The other kids you had escaped the Reach with were watching from across the room, waiting for instructions. They watched with their eyes wide in fear and concern as the scientist cornered you.
“Y/N, you have to calm down.” He told you calmly, despite the annoyed tone of his voice.
You crouched in a defensive stance, snarling at him to tell him to back off. Two security guards grabbed your arms, and you thrashed in their hold, warning them to let you go. Your heart rate began to pick up as they held you down, and the scientist picked up a needle. You knew the drug wouldn’t work on you, none of them did, but you had to act like it would.
Your plan was to be calm and act out of it once they “sedated” you, so that they wouldn’t see you as dangerous. Then, once their guard was down, you’d attack.
“No! Stop!” You yelled as the needle stuck into your arm, and you slowly pretended to get tired. You made your eyes droop and breathed very slowly, so that when he checked your pulse it would be at the rate it should be with sedation in your veins.
“Put her in a straight jacket.” The scientist ordered a guard.
“You can’t do that!” Virgil Hawkins stood up.
“That’s way out of line!” Tye Longshadow glared at the scientist.
“She’s far too dangerous.”
“She obviously doesn’t want your help. You can’t just force her to do stuff!” Eduardo Dorado Jr. snapped. The scientist ignored him as the guards put your arms in a straight jacket, then sat you down in the last chair. You pretended to be half asleep, but when no one was looking you winked at the other 6 kids before they were called over. You shut your eyes and your head fell back against the wall, you figured you’d might as well rest. Your thoughts wandered to your father, and the horror stories about Stryker and the Weapon X program.
Your father was James Howlett, AKA The Wolverine, and your mother was Jean Grey, another X-Man. She had died half a year ago, destroyed by the Phoenix Force. You had run away from the X-Mansion because of it. You were treated different by the other kids, and even your team, Excalibur. Nightcrawler, Gambit, Rogue, Colossus, Lockheed, even your best friend, Kitty Pryde, treated you differently than before the Phoenix killed your mother. They treated you as if you’d turn on them any second. As if you’d attack them. As if you were an animal. A monster.
Your father had become even more distant and angry than before, which was something you didn’t think was possible. You didn’t know how to comfort him, and he didn’t know how to comfort you. Nobody was there for you while you grieved for your mother, and you felt feared and unwanted. So, to make things easier for them, you left. You planned to just wander, maybe even steal a motorcycle and follow in your fathers footsteps. You had been waiting for a bus when the Reach kidnapped you. When you woke up, voices were talking in your head. You were terrified, but then you heard your mothers voice. Whether it was actually her or just your subconscious, you didn’t know, but she helped you control the other voices. You were extremely intelligent, so it didn’t take long for you to get the hang of telepathy. When you finally escaped, you were put back into more testing. It made you anxious and panicky, since you knew what happened to your father and many mutants when they were tested on. You remembered the mutants that died being experimented on by Trask, and the lifelong trauma it brought your father.
“If we let you out, do you think you can handle getting some food without throwing a fit?” A security guard asked you, mocking you as if you were a child.
You lifted your head and nodded slowly, manipulating his mind to think your pupils were dilated, a sign of sedation. Once he was satisfied he unbuckled the straight jacket and helped you up, but you convinced him you could walk on your own. You walked out to the hallway and stopped at a corner, watching the others who were listening to Eduardo Jr and Eduardo Sr arguing very loudly. They looked away when he storms out, slamming the door.
“Uh...we should get lunch while we have time.” Virgil suggested.
“This is so messed up.” Tye snapped. “STAR is as bad as the Reach and worse than home.”
“Wouldn’t go that far.” Onawa Longshadow, who you figured out was his sister, mumbled.
“But STAR wants to help us.” Neut, some other escapee said quietly.
“Whatever, Neut. I just know I can’t take much more of this.” Tye said through his teeth.
“You won’t have to. Cause we’re busting out. Tonight.” Virgil says with determination. This perks your attention, so you walks towards them.
“And how are we supposed to do that?” Eduardo asked. “This place is a fortress.”
“You’ll need me.”
They all spin around and see you, perfectly awake and not sedated at all.
“You faked it, didn’t you?” Tye asked you, grinning.
“That’s what he said.” Virgil whispered, Eduardo snickering while Tye rolled his eyes.
“Drugs and medicine don’t work on me.” You shook your head. “The doctors are idiots.”
“Is that your metahuman gene?” Eduardo asked.
“No. That’s my X-Gene.” You shake your head as you looked around to make sure there’s no guards spying on you guys.
“Wait...” Tye mumbled. “I thought you were a telepath?”
“Holy shit! You’re like Wolverine, right? With a healing factor!” Virgil exclaimed.
“What?” A guard overheard from the other hallway. You rolled your eyes and erased the last few seconds from his mind, then created a “mind link” with the others, translating for Asami at the same time. Not Neut though, you knew he wanted to stay and report you. So you erased his mind as well.
‘Don’t yell. Talk to me through this.’ You ordered as you all started walking towards the cafeteria. ‘Yes, Wolverine is my father. My X-Gene developed when I was little, but the Reach activated my meta gene as well.’
‘No fair, so you’ve got like, a hundred powers?’ Virgil asked.
‘Can you even count? She’s got two.’ Onawa rolled her eyes.
‘So you know how to get us out of here?’ Tye asked. He seemed to be the most restless and adamant about leaving, which you took note of.
‘We leave tonight. I’ll take care of everything.’
“Please, tell me you're not serious about running. Running, escaping, whatever you want to call it, we're gone. This is serious. I nearly blew up Central City. My powers may be gone now, but what if they come back, you know, escalate out of control all over again? What if your powers escalate? Dude, you can't control them now. Look, I know Wilcox is a pain. STAR is a pain, but they're trying to keep us safe. Or at least keep the world safe from us.” Neut tried to reason with you.
“I’m outta here..” Virgil scoffed as you led him towards the door.
“Oh yeah.” Tye nodded, his sister following behind.
“Adios.” Eduardo waved to Neut.
“Are you coming Sam?” You asked her.
“I think so?” She tilted her head.
“That might mean yes.” Tye and Eduardo both led her towards you.
You spun around when alarms suddenly blared, and you saw Neut at some control panel.
“Sorry. But I can’t let you do this.” Neut narrowed his eyes.
“Bold of you to assume you were letting us in the first place, punk!” Onawa glared at him, starting to charge at him before her brother tugged her back.
“Let’s go!” You shouted at them, rushing down the hallway. Virgil and Eduardo sprinted ahead of you, right at the door. Virgil tried to open the door, but it was locked.
“The alarms put the whole place on lockdown!” Virgil alerted you.
“Great! Now what?” Tye asked.
“No idea.” Virgil admitted.
“Well what was your escape plan?” Eduardo asked.
“Uh...I didn’t really come up with one.” Virgil rubbed the back of his neck. “Y/N, weren’t you supposed to be in charge here?”
“I am. Just wait for it.” You told them. You knew guards would be at every exit any minute, and you wanted to show them something.
“Ed? Can you teleport us out?” Virgil asked, trying to figure out why you were just standing there staring down the hall.
“Haven't you been paying attention? I can only teleport myself and only along sight lines. Which makes escaping from a windowless, locked hallway somewhat difficult!” Eduardo shouted, accent becoming thicker in his anger.
“No problem! Tye can do his thing, right?” Virgil turned to Tye.
“Wrong! I can’t control ‘my thing’! It just happens!” Tye shook his head.
“Onawa? Can you do some magic or something?”
“No way! If I try to tear apart the door I could tear you apart too! I don’t have control yet, you-“ Onawa opened her mouth to say some god awful curse.
“That’s enough.” Tye smacked her arm.
“Look out!” Asami pointed.
You grinned when some guards ran up, channeling your inner Wolverine.
“You kids need to come with us!” A guard warned.
“Don’t think so.” Eduardo said darkly.
You charged at the guards, finally sheathing your claws. You made sure to not cut any vital parts, only making flesh wounds to keep them down. You snarled at them, baring your sharp teeth. Once they were all down, you turned around and charged towards the others. They all jumped aside as you went for the door, easily tearing through the layers of metal. You retracted your claws, standing straight and feeling your shoulders and back crack loudly. You turned around, everyone staring at you in shock and fear.
“Let’s go.” You say calmly, before running off into the night.

My Journey Into X-men / Curse of the Mutants
So I’ve been reading pretty much everything X-men related from Decimation era (except Wolwerine solo stuff) for a while now, so I thought with the quarantine upon us, I might start posting some thoughts on it.
Era: Decimation
Current arc: Curse of the Mutants
Year: 2010
List of issues:
Death of Dracula #1 X-Men Curse of the Mutants Blade #1 X-men Curse of the Mutants Saga #1 X-men (2010) #1 -#6 Curse of the Mutants Storm & Gambit #1 X-men Curse of the Mutants Smoke & Blood #1 X-men vs Vampires #1- #2 Namor The first Mutant #1 - #4
The story:
For any fans of Marvel vampire comics out there, please bear with me, Death of Dracula is the first ever thing from that world I’ve ever read. The first issue of this arc Death of Dracula #1 starts with a huge gathering of various vampire sects. As the title suggests dear old Dracula gets killed in this one by the younger of his two sons. Most of the issue then is about some infighting among the vampire sects and trying to find out who’s loyal to the new master’s cause. As that gets settled, it’s time for a new plan - the vampires need to get out of the shadows and become creatures of days, thanks to this new gizmo watch looking thing that prevents them getting burned once they step into the sun. This is what also saves the older and more likable son of Dracula, Janus who would have otherwise been killed as a traitor.
The first step en road to world domination is picking up the world’s vampire slayers one by one, until ultimately only Blade survives. Figuring that the vamps will go for the mutants next in order to make already super-powered people into vamps, so he makes his way into Utopia. That’s basically Curse of the Mutants Blade #1  in a nutshell.
I’ve pretty much skipped over Curse of the Mutants Saga #1 as this one serves solely to introduce the X characters to readers and as an advertisement for the next issues of X stuff.
Over in X-men Cyke sends Pixie to check on de-powered Jubilee who is still living in the Bay Area. As the two try to catch up, they get rudely interrupted by a vamp who blows himself up. Jubilee gets caught in the blast and is brought to Utopia where Dr. Nemesis figures out that Jubes got infected. What he and the other mutants don’t know is that she was the intended target of the blast with the other people caught in the explosion being pretty much just cannon fodder. As all of them make their way to the vamps, not being able to fight the call, Jubilee keeps resisting and fighting at first.
The mutants and Blade try to figure out what to do next as they see the crazy numbers of vamps they’re standing against thanks to a re-calibrated Cerebra, with Cyclops acknowledging that they are in no way ready for an all out war with the vamps. Therefore the best solution they can come up with is Emma’s - better the devil you know, then the one you don’t. Hence mutants + Blade decide that reviving Dracula is their best course of action. As they figure this out, Jubilee is no longer able to resist and joins the vamps and as these guys are no Edward Cullen and co. but real vamps, she gets turned.
In Curse of the Mutants Gambit and Storm #1  Storm accompanied by Gambit make their way to vamp island in order to retrieve Dracula’s body. They run into Janus who prefers the X-men’s plan over his brother’s leadership, so they form a temporary alliance, but surprise, surprise, they get attacked. Storm ends up falling down into a pit where some vamps are hibernating in order to block access to the island, unfortunately for her these are connected by  tubes and are feeding on some poor suckers who are still alive and conscious. They beg Storm to save them, but Gambit and Janus run out of time and unless she destroys the vamps, Cyclops won’t be able to send in his X-team. In the end, she has no other choice but to put down vampire and human alike in yet another showing of the whole “X-men don’t kill” thing being BS, but at least this time is somewhat forgivable. With the protection down, the X-men come in and end the rest of the vamps who were attacking Gambit and Janus. Janus takes off and Storm  has a depressive exchange with Remy about having to kill (once again).
Meanwhile over in Curse of the Mutants - Smoke & Blood #1 the X-club tries to devise a cure for the poor suckers who got hid by the vamp!bomb and who have gone a little crazy. Nemesis, Rao and Jeffries get shut in the lab with the crazy vamp wannabes and the vamp corpse. Cyke is off island, so Emma is running things on Utopia which doesn’t make Nemesis happy. Jeffries figures out that the vamps have hijacked his brain and mutant abilities and intends to go the suicide by Dr. Rao way. But by then  Nemesis figures out that the change in Jeffries and the vamp people is not caused by anything physical, rather it’s psychic influence causing it. So Emma comes to the rescue as she delivers a blow to poor Jeffries brain. So in the end it’s psychic powers vs. magic powers which once again doesn’t make Dr. Nemesis happy at all. For some reason some of the scenes in this issue cracked me up:

SF is in for a psychic enema:

X-men vs. Vampires #1 & #2 are two anthologies of stories of mostly second-tier X-men characters and their more or less accidental meetings with the vamps. There’s Husk, there’s Dazzler, Rockslide & Hisako on a supply run and so on. There’s also a short story on Angel vs. Archangel and their lust for killing when it comes to the vamps. The two stories that stuck with me were the one with Gambit - I don’t even remember what the story was though completely, it’s just that the color scheme of that story was really pretty:
Tumblr media
The second one was the one about Magneto and while it also had great art, it was also an interesting glimpse of a story. Magneto runs into someone who he thought long perished in the holocaust. It turns out that on the train from the ghetto, the boy was picked up by a vampire and turned into one himself. Two guesses how this story ended though...
Tumblr media
X-men #3 - #6 is where we finally get to the action. Cyclops sends Wolverine to retrieve Jubilee while Namor brings back Dracula’s head. The mutants on Utopia revive Dracula and end up losing him without making any kind of official agreement with him. Meanwhile Logan tries to rescue Jubes but as she has been completely turned she ends up turning him into a vampire. Xarus and the vamps plan their assault on Utopia while Cyke plans the defense. Everyone on Utopia who can’t turn himself into some unbitable form goes into hiding with the exception of Scott Summers because leader’s prerogative y’all. He unleashes Archangel on the vamps’ air troops who end up getting decimated. The Atlanteans fight their way through the underwater!vamps. Xarus is not giving up and drop Vamp!Logan on Utopia who goes on a tangent about Cyclops dictatorship over mutants. What the vamps didn’t count with was Scott Summer’s tactical skills - he was fully expecting Logan to be turned into a vamp, so he had Dr. Rao and Nemesis make sure that they can have Logan switched back to normal like flipping a switch - when they were investigating Logan’s healing factor and it’s effects on vampirism they made sure to inject him in order to turn off his healing factor temporarily. Logan is not happy with Cyclops once again and they’re gonna have words eventually, but first they both wanna take care of Xarus.
Except Vlad Dracula himself beats them to it and kills Xarus himself. Blade still wants to kill Dracula, but Cyke stops him given their unspoken agreement with the vampire lord, so he ends up knocking Blade out with his optic blast. Dracula points out that he could still technically continue Xarus’ plan to turn Utopia’s mutant population into vampires with a cooler head. Cyke’s not having it, even if he’s bluffing his way out of the situation. Dracula doesn’t really believe his bluff, but still calls it a day given Cyke’s guts and leaves the X-men a small gift in the form of vamp!Jubilee.
Blade tells Logan that the only way out of the situation is a wooden stake through Jubes’ heart, but Wolverine can’t bring himself to agree. Elsewhere Cyke and Emma also consider the situation and Emma can’t help but agree with Blade, Scott wants to keep his hopes up for now.
That concludes the vamps. vs mutants battles for now. The first issues of Namor The First Mutant were also a part of this arc and I long fought with myself to decide if I was gonna read those as well. If there’s one Marvel character I can’t stand, it’s gotta be Namor. I guess it’s his arrogance - I know there are plenty of arrogant characters in Marvel and I even like some of them, but they just have soem redeeming qualities and I have yet to find any for Namor. So I tried the first issue and just couldn’t finish it to be honest.
All in all, this wasn’t exactly the best X-men arc, but I really enjoyed the conclusion of it in the later issues of the X-men. It showed why Scott Summers is often considered to be the No. 1 strategist in the Marvel Universe. At the same time, I know that this came out not so long before Schism, so while this is vamp!Logan talking, at least some part of regular Logan probably agrees with the notion:
Tumblr media
Is he right? Probably to some extent. At the same time, unfortunately given the situation that the mutants are facing at this point of time, someone like General Summers is exactly what they need. Would they have survived either Osborn or the vampires or both without his leadership? Probably not.
To end this, have some panels of Scott Summers being the kickass strategist and leader he can be at his best:

But You Say He’s Just A Friend
Warnings: Mentions of sex, cursing
Pairings: Peter Maximoff x reader, Gambit x reader
Tumblr media
You and Peter Maximoff have been friends with benefits for a few months now and just about everyone and their mother knows it. However things turn sour once someone catches feels....
I sigh as Peter uses his super speed to hop out of my bed, dresses himself, and kisses my cheek before muttering a quick “that was amazing” before speeding off.
Every time it was the same. He didn’t want to stay to cuddle or just talk. So why did I think that anything would change over time? I knew that he was full of shit and yet I fall for it and sleep with him anyway, thinking our friend with benefits agreement would either just work out or turn into something else-- not turn into a situation where he now only acknowledges me in private and won’t even make eye contact with me when others are around. So why do I continue?....because the sex is mindblowing of course. Like that’s any real reason.
I missed playing video games with him, pigging out on junk food, and going to concerts with him. Or how we’d play pranks on everyone. Or even just how we’d just stay up and talk/listen to music all night when we couldn’t sleep. I regret the night that we first hooked up....
I hop out of bed and trudge to the shower, slowly gaining control of my legs again. I sigh in contentment as the hot water runs down my body and run my hand through my kinky curls as I try to run conditioner through my thick curly hair.
Once out of the shower, I lotion up and look at the clock seeing that it was just now only 10pm. Deciding that I wasn’t going to go back to bed and pity myself, I change into a little black dress with a pair of silver Doc Martens, getting ready to go out.
“Where ya goin’ Cherie?” A familiar voice asks as I exit my room and walk down the corridor. The voice (that I could definitely hear the smirk in) belonged to a cocky ass, but very attractive Cajun.
“None of your business, darlin’.” My own southern accent seeping out as I smirk at none other than Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit who’s leaning against the wall with a smirk on his face.
“Wha’? Did boy wonda finish too quick?” He continues, his red eyes glowing with mischief.
He follows me down the corridor of the mansion, once he sees that I wasn’t going to answer. I open my mouth, about to defend Peter and then shrug wondering why I should.
“Remy, love, don’t you have something better to do?” I turn on my heels and look at the mutant while pulling a solid black flask out of my purse and sipping of the whiskey within it.
He then takes the flask from me and takes a long sip himself, looking me in the eye sensually the whole time as I raise a brow as to say what the hell.
“Actually...I was thinkin’ o’ goin’ out tonight ta gamble, but now I think I’d have mo’ fun wit you Cherie .” He smirks, coming closer to me.
I know damn well that he was using his charm on me because I suddenly felt sort of warm and my hair was standing on end. I wanted him closer to me, to inhale his scent and feel his warmth against me.
"Cat got ya tongue?” He smirks. He was now so close that I could smell my whiskey on his breath.
“Whatever LeBeau. You can come but drinks are on you darlin’.” I say pushing him away from me.
-----------------------------------
Peter’s POV
“No, I mean it Cherie. I don’ know why ya waste ya time wit da kid. He don’ ‘preciate how beautiful ya are.” Gambit slurs as he and Y/n try to make their way across the lawn.
I couldn’t sleep and needed to burn off some energy, so since Y/n wasn’t picking up her phone to go for another round, I thought I’d go for a run and happen to almost literally run into the two. I quickly run out of sight to where I could hear their conversation in secret.
“Remy you’re just saying that so I’d sleep with you.” Y/n groans as she lays on a nearby bench.
She looked cool as always with her black dress and silver boots. Her hair was loose for once and sat like a crown on her head.
“I wouldn’ be opposed ta dat. But I mean it, Cherie. If I was ya man, I’d show ev’rybody ya mine.” He says standing before Y/n, who starts crying.
I immediately feel like a complete and total prick. I never meant to make her feel this way but I didn’t want her to gain feelings for me either. I honestly missed having her as my friend and seeing LeBeau now take my place made my blood boil.
"Y’know what, you’re right. Fuck him!” She yells, causing LeBeau to put a hand over her mouth, while laughing himself.
“Damn Cherie! Ya wanna wake up da whole school?” He laughs, picking up Y/n, and bringing her to her feet.
They both look into each other’s eyes, for a moment before Y/n groans.
“Stop using your charm power on me.” She groans, with her head falling back.
“I assure ya dat I’m not usin’ it right now.” He smirks, making me want to go over and punch it off his face.
They slowly near each other, going in for a kiss and I speed off.
--------------
Y/n’s POV
I groan as I wake up from the sun peeking through my blinds. I squint my eyes as I take in my surroundings, relieved that I was in my room this time and not Peter’s room...or the living room like the last time I blacked out.
After showering and lotioning up, I put on a black Alice in Chains t-shirt, a pair of black shorts and a flannel tied around my waist before heading out to the lawn barefoot. It was a bright and sunny Spring day (thanks mainly to Storm) and not a single cloud in the sky. I walked across the lawn waving at some familiar faces as I walk over to my favorite tree with a book in hand.
“Hey Y/n, wait up!” I hear behind me and roll my eyes recognizing it as Peter’s voice.
I continue my path to the tree, ignoring him but he suddenly appears before me, making me jump.
“Did you forget that I’m fast?” He has the audacity to smirk, which falls once he sees that I wasn’t having it.
“No Peter but considering that this is the first time in months that you’ve acknowledged me in public, I figured I just imagined you were calling me.” I say, rolling my eyes.
“Y/n, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have--” Peter begins but gets cut off by Remy who was lounging on a branch above us, eating an apple.
“Been a dick ta ma girl?” Remy finishes, hopping from his branch and landing gracefully beside me, wrapping an arm around my waist.
Peter looks at us in surprise as Gambit and I smirk at him.
“But I mus’ say dat I owe ya one. If ya hadn’tve screwed up wit her, don’ know if I’d be able ta call ‘er mine.” Remy continues, and kisses me tenderly on the lips.
I almost feel bad as Peter speeds off, but then remember how I felt for months.
“Wow Gambit, you deserve an Oscar. I almost believed your performance.” I laugh, playfully pushing him away.
I stop laughing when I notice his eyebrow raised and arms crossed.
“Cherie, I meant ev’ry word.”
