you hang up as you hear his steps near your door. “hey ma” “hey con” you watch as he takes off his sweater and puts his keys down climbing into bed next to you. “how was your day?” you ask as he burrows into the crook of your neck, wrapping his arms around you placing his hands at the small of your back.

“boring, i missed you. so does prince, why dont you just come live with us?” you hear the pout in his hushed voice. “ connie we have discussed this before, we are still early in our relationship and we both need our own spaces. i can sleep over tomorrow night if you’d like?”

“yes please” he says in a baby voice. you laugh at him. “ how was your day ma?” you take a deep breath “ i did 5 clients and 12 sets of press ons, really busy” he peppers kisses all over your neck “proud of you” you hum in acknowledgment as you both drift off to sleep.

You and miles are laying down stomach to stomach with one arm on your back rubbing circles and the other watching tiktoks on his phone. you had your ear on his chest hearing his slow heartbeat while also watching tiktotks on your own phone when you heard the song play.

you bring your head up resting your chin on his chest. instantly he puts his phone down looking at you with a questioning look. “what is it?” instead of replying you just stare intently at his face eyes darting all over his cheeks. “ what are you looking at? i got somethin on my face?” he bring his hand up you move it away “ no just rest your face”

you keep your eyes trained on one spot as you straddle him, his hands coming to rest on your hips as you lean in closer holding his face in your hand’s slightly turning it from right to left. you did this for about 10 minutes.

“ you have more than i thought actually” you say under your breath. “ what are you talking about amorcito?” “ your freckles!” you exclaim “ i was counting them” “and how many are there?” he questions “ like 87” he looks at you surprised. “ you actually counted them?” “ yeaaaa?” you say drawing it out.

part 1

Ever since you guys had the project together it seemed like the both of you grew closer and closer together. Your parents know Rio and Aaron. You guys have had each other over for dinner so many times you cant even count it.

With each passing second you can feel yourself falling for him more and more. Though it seems like he’s been the same since you first met.

You were over at Miles place for dinner; your parents couldn’t make it due to work, but you didn’t mind. You sat in Miles room on his bed watching movies when he asked you a question that made your eyes go wide.

“You got a boyfriend?” He says leaning back on the palms of his hands with his legs straight out in front of him. “ No I don’t, do you have a girlfriend?” “ Nah”. This odd silence fell between the two of you, more awkward than usual. “Well, do you like anyone then?” you say turning your head towards him.

He shifts his weight onto his left hand while his right comes up to itch his neck. “ Well yea”. You feel your heart sink for a second; I mean why wouldn’t he like anyone? Your curiosity was rising “ Do I know who she is?”.

He stiffens before he could open his mouth Rio’s voice can be heard calling you guys down for dinner “ Kids come down food is ready!”. He gets up first leaving the room without a word you sigh following him.

After dinner you help wash dishes and clean off the table. When done you take yourself to Miles room; he was sitting on his bed phone in hand. He looks up at you putting his phone face down on the bed.

You look at the time 7:25 you don’t have to go home till 9:30. He speaks up “ so you wanna watch somethin’ ?” “Oh yea sure, you can choose”. The awkward silence was there again. He grabs the remote and puts something you’ve both already see on.

“You asked me somethin earlier” You thought for a second trying to remember what he’s talking about, but then a lightbulb goes off in your head. “ yea I did” He starts “ shes real nice, and pretty. Shes smart as hell too. We watch a ton of bad movies and laugh about how bad they are, you’d love her”. Feeling a bit defeated you sigh. “ Yea probably”.

In that moment Miles starts laughing “I know you can be an airhead sometimes but really?” He looks over at you and you look back confused. “ What are you talking about” “ Como estas tan despistada?”

“I’m talking about you”

You sit registering what he just said. “Huh” you weren’t thinking straight “ ME?” he nods “ who else do i watch trashy movies with just to rate them? What other girls do my mom let into the house with no questions asked? WHO else does my mom let come into my room AND lets me shut the door?” he says pointing to the door.

“Now i feel dumb” you say covering your face. He starts laughing at you.”Meaning you like me too” He doesn’t say it as a question he says it as a statement. “yeaaa” you say looking through your hands like this. 🫣

With that he sits next to you. “ yea i knew you did.” You look at him in disbelief “then why didnt you say anything??” “ Its funny watching you get flustered and stuff” he days nudging your shoulder.

You look over at him seeing his adorning brown eyes. “ So, what does that make us now?” you say quietly as if you were to say it any louder he would turn away and act as if this never happened.

“ Lets take it slow, ill take you on a date tomorrow, how does that sound Mi novia?” He reached for your hand intertwining it with your own “ sounds perfect”.

Mylo gets compared to his brother so much that he visibly gets annoyed whenever it happens so right off the bat when you befriend Miles before Mylo and Miles isn’t being a very good friend he just thinks youre moving on from Miles and either shoos you away or wont pay attention to you, he thinks hes the second option.

“ I wish Miles was here to help us on our science project, hes scary good at it” you say laughing and nudging his shoulder.

Mylo gives you this irritated face “yea i know hes is he my brother7. why you talkin about him anyway?” he says snapping at you.

you put your hands up defensively “ I didn’t mean to strike a nerve or anything he just helps me a lot with this stuff”

he scoffs “oh so im too stupid to do this? then go ask him to be your partner i don’t need this bs today” he says getting up and leaving. you just sit in shock; thats not even close to what you were saying?

He ignores you constantly after that but you need clarification; is he mad at you or not?

“ hey is your brother mad at me or something? we were doing a science project and he kinda got up an left. but then again it was my fault” you say the last part under your breath.

Miles shrugs “ i dont know just cause we brothers dosent mean i know whats up with him.”

you scoff “ what is up with the both of you? he’s ignoring me and youre being snappy, did something happen?” you say annoyed yet sincere.

he wipes his face with his hand “ well not everything is about you” he says grabbing his stuff “ and for the record sorry im not happy, my dad died.” he says walking away leaving you in utter shock.

why didn’t they say anything? now that you think about it; maybe you were a bad friend.

you guys haven’t talked for weeks, avoiding each other because you didn’t know what to say. you blamed yourself mostly for this and let this friendship slip your mind, but Mrs Morales had other plans.

Sometimes you just feel out of place, I mean your family is so good looking! why did the genes have to skip you?

You and Miles have been together for so long ,and he knew of your struggles with good body image and in was always making sure to complement you and made you feel as if you were on cloud nine.

When you were at parties he would always get you another plate/ go up with you to get food and even fought off you fat shaming aunties for you. He was so sweet.

Dont get me wrong; you can stand up for yourself but when it came to how you looked tou always seemed to be at a loss of words.

you arrive at the party looking at all your relatives for a second before joining them.

miles goes to grab you and him and drink and takes a seat next to you. you were having a conversation before one if your least favorite aunts walks up to you.

“ long time no see hun” she says motioning for you to hug her, but you hesitate. “ hey auntie how have you been?” “ ive been the same since the last time you saw me! and who’s this young man?” she says motioning to miles.

he stands “ im Miles Morales, its nice to meet you ma’am” he says smiling at her. “ you got a good one honey” she says before whispering to miles “ make sure she don’t eat half the table” she says laughing.

miles looks at her sideways before looking at you and seeing your sunken sad face. you felt the pit in your stomach grow larger. she walks away continuing prepping the food.

“ you ok? its not too late to go home.” he says sincerely. “ its ok, i still wanna see my family” you say giving him a bright smile, but it only eases his anxiety a tad bit.

before you could say anything else the cousin that you hated the most, the one that made you leave functions early, the one that always found a way to put you down walked in.

Mrs.Morales always thought of you as a daughter she never had. when she figured out that you hadnt come over in WEEKS she had to intervene!

“ Miles, Mylo! ven aquí necesitamos hablar” she says as she sits at the dining table crossing her arms. mylo and miles were sitting in miles room playing a game on the floor when they look up at each other giving each other a “🤨” face.

you have only been able to think about your last reaction with them. was that the last time you would talk? will yoi ever be friends again? are they ok? why couldn’t i have been a better friend? it plagued tour mind, flying above you like a storm cloud. you wanted to talk with them but how could you? there was nothing you could think of to fix this mess.

you were sitting in your room watching a movie when you hear a quite nock on your door. absentmindedly you call “come in” you didnt even turn to see who it was. “ hey” you heard behind you causing confusion. your parents never say “hey” and the voice was oddly familiar? you turn to see miles and mylo standing with a plastic bag in hand.

all you could do was stare “ could we talk?” miles asked. you were still caught off guard so you simply nodded pausing the movie and sitting up. the both take a seat on the edge of the bed. you sat in silence for what felt like forever till you heard mylo sigh “ im sorry for jumpin to a conclusion the way i did, i felt the a jerk the moment i left. you onyl wanted us to past with the best score and if miles could have helped i should have been open to the idea. im sorry” he says sincerely gazing into your eyes searching for what you could have been feeling.

“ im so sorry as well i had no right to say that, i was upset and i just didn’t know how to deal with my emotions i didn’t mean to upset you, or take it out on you could you forgive me, forgive us?”

you stay silent “ why didnt you just tell me about what happened, i would have been there for you guys. i thought thats what friends do for each other i tell you guys whats going on with me but the moment i ask about you its like im not allowed to know. and miles you asked me if i wanted to hang out after school and literally stood me up? and then i saw you hanging out with some blond girl hours later? why would you do that?”

you say with pain lacing your voice. mylo was kind of shocked he had no idea about this. miles sighs “ i habnt seen her in a long time we were just catching up and i didnt mean to forget i was stressed and busy im so so sorry.”

you couldn’t forgive him just like that… could you? “ it really hurt. and i don’t deserve to be treated like that, but if the both of you will be honest with me” you pause “ we can be friends again” you say with a soft smile “ thank you we appreciate it, and so will our mom” miles laughs “ oh so she made you guys come here? i knew it there is no way you came here willingly.” they laugh before realizing what they brought “ oh and we bought you these on the way here” mylo says handing you a bag of your favorite snacks “ thank you, you guys didn’t have to do this” “ wellllll we kind of did” miles says before scratching his neck.

“ so we good right?” mylo asks “ yea were good”

The break up wasn't too messy but it hurt a ton. you were very serious about your career and he knew that. you broke up with him, and you didn’t give him a lame excuse like wanting to focus on your music. he was wi5 you from the very beginning and you always had time for him. it got to the point where he wasn’t making time for you.

he would skip dates for work, wouldn’t call or text for days . he even went on a week trip without even bothering to let you know. not even his own mother knew, you were worried waiting for him until out of the blue he called.

“ hey ma how you doin”?”

“ miles? what is wrong with you! do you know how scared me and tour mother were? you just left!”

you hung up the phone absolutely furious how can he just leave and claim he needed to get away? you guys havnt talked in weeks!

about an hour later he shows up at your door.

“ no! miles i cant, we cant..” he knows and you know where this is going “miles, i cant do this anymore, you are never around, you don’t text or call. i feel like.. like you don’t love me anymore.” the tears start welling in your eyes. he reaches for you trying to console you but you back away.

“ miles we both know sorry isn’t going to fix this” you say wiping your tears and looking away from him.

“i think we need to…to” he sighs. “ you know i will always love you right? forever you were the girl that knew me from the beginning and always stayed by my side and put up will all of this.” stammering as the tears starting to roll down his face.

this is the first time you’ve seen him cry and it breaks you, it really does, but you guys cant go back. the damage has been done its too late.

“miles please, go” you say as your eyes start to release the tears you’ve been holding back.

“ ok, please keep everything, don’t forget me. ill change and ill come back and treat you better than i ever have and anyone ever will.” he says sniffling as he turns and walks down the hall, out the doors and out of your life.
