Kaz brekker x Fem!Reader
I’ve seen so much like this and I just love it! I want kaz to gift me things.
Notes: Longest kaz fic of mine, like I haven’t wrote this much for one character in a while. You can be a crow in this, or just work at the club.
Warnings: Fluffy, cursing I think, teasing from the group, kaz being a little soft. Maybe some angst. Spelling mistakes.
His hooded eyes stared at her fingers as she washed to counter, moving them up he looks at her face. The face that he admired and couldn’t help but feel warm when he looked at her. She wear a dress, not too fancy or too boring. She worked the bar or help the kitchen at times, so she always got stains on her dress. She looked beautiful to him even now, messy dress and a little dirt on her cheek.
She had her lips pouted a bit and at whatever she was thinking about, he found it cute. He couldn’t help but do this often, he just feel in a trace. Kaz let his mind run to far that everyone there notice his absence mind. Smirking, Nina was the first to speak. “You got a bit of drool there, boss.” She leaned close and pointed to the corner of his lips but never touched him.
Kaz broke his trance and turned to her with a glare, “Excuse me?” She laughed and sat back into her boyfriend arms. “You’re partially ripping her clothes off in your mind. And not to mention your heart is acting weird, you wanna go talk to her?” She asked with a teasing small voice as if she was talking to a child.
He took a deep breath of annoyance and rolled his eyes. “She’s using the wrong rag, she should have switched it out a hour ago.” He stated to throw their thoughts off. Nina nodded but she didn’t believe it, no one at the table did. “I don’t know boss” Jesper tapped in, “You were giving her the eyes.” He moved his eyebrows.
“What eyes?” Kit had no clue what he was talking about. Jesper laughed and turned to wylan who already knew what to do. They stare at each other with big eyes and admiring their features, like a puppy. Nina giggled and hit the table, “He looks exactly like that!” Kaz groaned at their teasing, “Stop taking or you’re all out a job.” He grabbed his cane and stood up with it.
“No, boss don’t leave.” Jesper called out as they watch him leave, “Kazzel, we’re sorry.” Nina watched him leave. Once he disappeared they all looked at each other with big smirks. “He was totally drooling.” Jesper laughed. “Totally, now” she pulled out her coin purse. “Who wants to bet on them?” The table pitched in and were planning to get Inej in on it later.
//~//
His office was quiet and he could hear the sounds dying down as the club closed and the workers left, the only person left was you and the other crows. A knock at the door made his ears perk up, he knew who it was. “Come on.” His voice sounded light and low. You step through the door with a tray in your hand and carefully walked. “What have you brought this time?” He continued to write on the paper.
You smiled and walked over to him and set the tray on the table in the corner. “Well, get ready to eat a feast.” You giggle and picked up a big plate. He pushed his paper away, he learned that even if he wasn’t hungry you wouldn’t care. You placed the plate down in front of him and set down the utensils he needed. “Cabbage rolls, with a small side of eggs. And my favorite, seasoned potatoes.”
He looked up at you, his eyes questioning you. “We didn’t serve these tonight.” You smiled and shrugged, “They just appeared out of no where.” You walked back over to the table to get the other things you brought him. “And you’d feed this to me not knowing if it was poison?” He grabbed the fork and poked the food, but he knew you had made it. “Maybe I want whatever you have stashed around here.”
He hummed and you came back over and set down a glass of water and a smaller plate, a sweet roll on top of it. He remembered when you found out he had a sweet tooth you always got him one, he hated someone knowing that. But if it was going to be anyone he was fine with it being you.
“You better drink the whole glass of water, and eat at least half of everything.” You dropped your eyelids and leaned on his decks. “If that’s all, leave me to it.” He looked back down. Your eyes glanced over a bit and your breath hitched. Nodding you picked up the tray and walked out of the room like he told you.
“You should stay, be with me for a while.” The words you always wished to hear spoke through your head in his voice. You knew kaz was closed off, he didn’t like to show anyone anything he didn’t have to. It was known that he cared about you and the crows…But you hoped he cared more, like you did him. Each night you glanced at him, when he would walk around the bar with a glare and looked like a angry dog. You hated yourself for falling for a man that couldn’t love you back.
The next day you walked through the alleyways as the fog still covered the streets, the sun coming up and the soft light shined. You did like the morning because the way you took, there was never many people. You got to hear the birds that nest around and you could hear yourself think. Entering the club you worked and smiled at the men that work the table set up, you went to the bar. As you got closer you noticed something on the table, a box wrapped in a ribbon that wasn’t there when you closed.
Curiosity got the better of you and you looked at the note attached to it and your eyes widen as you saw your name written. There was no other name or any hint as to who it could be. It could be some sort of bomb or a poisons animal, but sometimes you couldn’t let the wonders stay. So you took of the top of the box and saw a few cookie cutters and your heart stop as you pick one of them up. You remember them from the store you went by, you stayed about a hour just convincing yourself not to waste money.
You looked up to see if anyone was looking at you, if you could spot the person who gifted it but you saw no one. Smiling big you took the box and put it under the corner. Everyone noticed the whole day you were more happy and hopping around the place. Everyone was more alive to see you like that, and it made them feel happier. When Nina asked what you were so happy about, you told her about the gift. “Who got it for you.” She raised a cup to her mouth and then took a bite of her waffle. “No clue, it wasn’t signed.” She was stunned for a moment as you walked off. Then she remembered that your boss was aways interested in your smile, so she put the pieces together.
That was just the start of the weekly gifts that were on the counter when you entered the club. Sometimes it was a flower vase with your favorite flowers. Sometimes it was new baking equipment, others it was just small things you would look at in the market. Once your shoes broke at work and you had to finish the shift with no shoes. Then, a man came in with a new pair as the club closed and that was your final straw.
You needed to find the person. They always knew what you wanted or needed. At first you thought it would be Inej because she couldn’t be seen, but you asked her and she said no. You could tell when she was lying. You asked everyone and they all said no, but you never asked kaz. It wasn’t even on your mind but it you needed to cross every box off. So when you brought him his nightly meal you had the perfect opportunity to ask.
This time his sweet was a cookie in the shape of one of the cutters he had got you. He lightly smiled with his eyes because you had used it. “Kaz.” You set down the glass on his desk. He glanced at you and then back down for you to get the words out. You tried to control the sweat coming off your body and your heart from beating fast.
“I’ve been getting these gifts, and I have no idea who they are from.” He nodded his head and picked up some food with his fork. “And are they threatening?” You shook your head and bit your lips. “No, they are sweet actually. Who ever is sending them is actually paying attention to me.” You fumbled your hands.
“Is that all you wanted to say? Why tell me this?” He sound annoyed. “Because I wanted to know if..” you stoped and looked at him. He let a few seconds pass by and looked up at you as you went silent and frozen. “If?” He asked to get you to keep going.
You needed to just bite the bullet and ask him. Part of you wanted it to be him- No. All of you wanted it to be him. To know that he pays attention to you, noticing everything like you do him. “Are you sending them?” You let out a breath. He stopped for a minute and looked into your eyes, you noticed his lips slowly curl up into a smirk.
“What gave me away?”
That wasn’t what you thought you would hear. And you actually thought you imagined it for a minute. It made your mind fly with thoughts and it took you so much by surprise, you stop working for a moment. “So, it was you?” Your brows raised themselves but crunched, he loved that look. “Hmm, but I should have guessed you would have figured me out.”
It clinked into your brain, it made your stomach fill with butterflies and heart flatter. “So, why did you do it?” You smiled at him. “I like to see you smile. I needed to show you thatI think about you non stop but, i couldn’t say it to your face.” He was truthful. “I-” he took a deep breath and raised his hand slowly and put it above yours. You he had a problem with touch, and that he was working on it.
Before you could voice your opinion he place his hand on top of your softly, it fit over yours perfectly. It was warm and the leather felt nice. “I have these feelings for you, that I don’t know what to do with. But, I’d like to have you as mine.” You smiled wide and tried not to cry, so you giggled at the overwhelming feeling.
“I will be yours, Kaz Brekker.” He actually smiled for the first time, not a small one but a bigger one. You could tell he was trying for you and you couldn’t help but find it adorable, but you couldn’t voice it. “Now, eat up and I’ll be back in a few. I want you to tell me that again.” You pranced out his office like you owned the place and acted high and mighty.
He sighed and chuckled, shaking his head at how much you affected him. The only warmth he felt inside was thinking of you, or seeing you.
“I’ll be yours kaz brekker.” He would replay those words in his head until his last breath.

A Ballad Of Love And Betrayal
Warning/s: Slight Angst
Character: Scaramouche x Reader
Synopsis: Reader found Scaramouche first after being discarded by Ei. Reader is with Scaramouche until he went with the Fatui
Tumblr media
It was Summer when you first saw him, as pale as a bleached bone in Sumeru's desert. The sound of crying brings you into the dark forests of Inazuma, where you discovered him curled up against a giant tree root. His white robes are now covered with grass and mud, but he doesn't seem to notice as he cries again. As a lower type of youkai, you can only wander from different areas of Inazuma like a living ghost avoiding any direct contact with humans.
But he's different; you're not sure why, but you find yourself walking towards him, and he glances up abruptly, like a deer about to flee. You awkwardly smiled at him, widening your arms as if to indicate that you mean no harm, but you can't help but feel a tug in your heart as he stares at you. His eyes are red from crying, his cheeks are ruddy from too much sniffling, he looks like him, and it makes you clutch yourself tightly, willing yourself to not remember the sight of your brother before he's slaughtered in front of you.
You have no explanation why you persuaded him to follow you; all logic and promises about not dealing with people are tossed out the window as you stare at him while he drinks the black tea you brewed. He eventually stops sobbing, but you can still hear occasional sniffles from time to time, and as the night draws closer to morning, you notice some strange things about the stranger. He's not talkative, he's also bashful, preferring to stay in your living room when you offered him your room. He's also too flawless to be a human, human eyes can't glow and be dazzling like that, humans don't have the type of divine aura that surrounds him, he's too beautiful even as a youkai who has lived for hundreds of years you find his beauty to be one in a million.
Weeks have passed after finding the stranger and nothing much has transpired between you two besides knowing his name. Kunikuzushi he says which makes you raise an eyebrow at the meaning but you don't press him further, preferring to sit against your blanket in front of the fire you lit.
Another month goes by, and he gradually warms up to you, beginning with opening the windows in the morning and preparing the tea he first drank at your home. You occasionally invite him to accompany you on boar hunts, and he is a tremendous help since he can handle the bow as if he had trained all his life for it. His eyes lit up with wonder during your discussion of how to cook the boar into various dishes; you notice that he prefers you cooking stew with potatoes and cabbage in it, and how he quickly finishes the soup you made and looks at you for a second serving; you can only smile in adoration as he hums when you filled his bowl again.
You've spent your days with him gardening or hunting, and when afternoon comes, you'll both head to the beach and swim or train his sword and spear skills. Every day was an adventure; you'd prepare breakfast as he tended to the garden, and then you'd both have some sunsettias after an intense training session.
He learns to sew and cook from you, and when the storm is too strong for you both to go outside, you produce a sewing kit after seeing him flinch at the sound of lightning, offering it as a distraction, and it appears to work as he leans his head against your chest, his fingers nimbly holding the needle through the pattern he made.
Kunikuzushi invited you to the beach after a storm, and you were confused as to why he chose to go there given that the beach was likely littered with debris. You feel as if the world is waiting with bated breath for something to happen, and you can't help but be anxious. An ugly emotion clings to your heart as you wait for him to announce that he's finally leaving you to travel the world. However, he didn't utter those words; instead, he made you sit on the stone surrounded by grass and flowers. You waited for him to sit next to you like he always does, but he began to speak and stare off into the distance as if he were trying to push away the ache growing in his chest. He told you about his mother, his abandonment, and his failure.
He looks at you expectantly, preparing himself for another betrayal, but is taken aback when you throw yourself on him. He loses his footing and falls to the sand with you after yelping in surprise. He tightens his arms around you, embracing your body as you utter the words he's been searching for since his birth into this world. In return, he can only cry and laugh, having finally found his home.
His second betrayal comes a year later, you urged him to try and socialize with other people. You think that he must be bored with simply conversing with you, and it would be helpful for him to have other friends when you depart on an important trip.
"I'm content conversing with you alone; why should I attempt to speak with others?" Kunikuzushi grumbles as he prepares the plates for dinner.
“Because Kuni, you need to have friends other than me. It will help for you to not be alone whenever I go somewhere”
“Then take me with you, I promise I’ll be good” he said
“I’m sorry Kuni, I wish I could but the other youkais are not very welcoming to others that are not cut from the same cloth”
He stood unsteadily, ready to provide another argument, then stopped, nodded, and agreed with you. You smiled at him as you pecked his cheek, then moved to serve the rice you had prepared, oblivious to the redness creeping up on his neck as he touched the spot where you had kissed him.
After your visit to see your other relatives and friends, he introduced you to his blacksmith friend. You saw him tugging on his sleeve as he introduced the boy to you, his face beaming as he described how he met the boy and the adventures they had when you're away. The boy stumbles before you as he stutters his name, a blush on his face. He appeared to be alright, and you had nothing else against the person. Kuni spends the majority of his time with his new friend, leaving you to your regular duties, but you brush off your sadness because he appears content with his new friend. Occasionally, he brings him over, and the three of you discuss various topics, such as constellations and sword-making skills.
You are alone planting flowers on your windowsill when you hear footsteps and see Kunikuzushi racing towards you with tears streaming down his cheeks. You instantly rise to your feet and rush to him, holding him as he sobs on your shoulder. Your kimono was drenched with his tears, yet you did not move as you reached for his cheeks to wipe away the tears that were departing his eyes. Soon after he has dropped to his knees, he reveals what transpired: he informed his friend about his past, but instead of welcoming him, his friend called him a monster and an abomination.
Your vision is filled with wrath as you get to your feet and grab your vision and weapon. You are about to kill the human when Kuni stops you. He still considers him a friend and family and requests your forgiveness to be extended to him. Even though it hurts to let go of your weapon, you did so and moved to his side as he snuggles up to you. That night, the forest again echoed with the sound of the puppet's cries.
It is difficult to leave the home you've lived in for years, but it is necessary to escape the area as news of the shogun's puppet staying nearby travels like wildfire and you soon detect traces of human scent approaching your home. You and Kuni can only carry so much with you as you both flee from the area, but not before you take one final glance back and memorize the garden filled with flowers and vegetables as its vines climb the black roof tiles of the house. The house sits still against the rising sun, and you can't help but feel sorry about leaving the place where you had many memories with Kunikuzushi and where your brother lived until his passing.
Kuni still holds the betrayal close to his heart, even after many moons have passed since the incident. You've tried everything to soothe his aching heart, and you sometimes feel like it's working, but you're disheartened whenever you catch him casting that longing and agonizing glance in the direction of the village. Over time, he appears to have moved on, and it feels as though you and him have returned to your previous routines. But there are times when he has nightmares at night, but you are always there to calm him, and he will be eternally thankful for you staying by his side.
You don't know when it begins, but thinking about Kunikuzushi always causes you to turn a shade of red. The yearning touches as your hands work together to create clay pots or the sight of him sleeping next to you with his eyelashes fluttering as his dreams pass through his mind causes you to blush and feel tense. He's noticed that you've been avoiding him lately, and he's worried that you're finally sick of him and blames him for leaving your house.
His lips quiver at the thought of waking up without you close to him, so he exerts more effort to help you, but you continue to lean away whenever he sits by you. He tried to get you to tell him stories, as you often do before falling asleep, but you always responded that you were too sleepy. He had enough when you stand after he has sat by your side, he grasped your hand while he looked at you, his chest was about to burst from the emotions he felt.
“Do you hate me that much? If you’re going to leave me then do it, I-I won’t blame you if you do” He says but his grip on your arm tightens more as the words leave him.
“What? I don’t hate you Kuni, I just have- I…you’ll hate me”
“Hate you? Teyvat can fall in ruins if I’ll ever do, you’re the only one who stays with me”
“Kuni- “
“I thought that you grew tired of me” his words shocked me, I slowly resent myself for even making him feel that way.
“I’m sorry Kuni, I didn’t intend it to be that way. The reason I pull away from you is because… I have developed feelings for you”
You have now expressed your feelings for the puppet. You are aware of the impending rejection, yet this does not make it any less painful. You anticipated harsh words, but he greets you with a smile instead; you have no time to appraise the situation before he draws you to him. His eyes, which are a deep violet color, desires a response, which I provide by moving closer and pressing my lips against his. My pulse quickens in response to the sensation, and my mouth becomes eager as he reciprocates. The urge for greater pleasure compels you to wrap your arms around his neck and cling to his hair until there are no more spaces between the both of you.
As I caress his hair and grasp it in my hand, he becomes still, his eyes widening with passion as he calls my name against my neck. As he nears his pleasure, his breathing becomes hard, his knees weaken, and he leans into me as he ends. He runs after my lips, removing my clothing as he trails kisses till he reaches mine, and he wasted no time in descending upon me. Even though his face was already pressed against mine, I continued to try to bring him closer until I, too, felt a wave of pleasure wash over me like a storm. As he claims me again and again throughout the night, he whispers love and adoration.
The next month was pure bliss. Kuni would wake you up with a kiss, and you couldn't help but laugh like a fool in love at his actions. He's as attached to you as a vine is to a tree. He never leaves your side unless he has to, and he's always trying to make little things for you, like a bracelet or some charms he thinks will look good on you. At the end of the day, you always end up lying under the covers with him between your legs while humming a lullaby you learned years ago.
Even as he sleeps, his breathing will match your tunes. You've noticed that he wakes up from nightmares less often and sleeps more soundly, and it warms your heart to know that you're part of the reason why. You sighed as you kissed the top of his head, and as you closed your eyes, you, too, fell asleep.
You wake up to the sound of rustling against the window; Kuni is still sleeping, so you quietly withdraw his hands from around your waist while you put on your boots to investigate the noise. You're surprised to see a tiny child cowering in fright in one of the flower pots you made; his face was near to tears as he begged you not to hurt him. You're going to help the boy out of the pot when you feel arms grab you, and you turn to see Kunikuzushi standing in front of you, ready to fight someone but stopping when he sees the youngster.
The child ends up living with you two; at first, Kuni is wary of him, but he gradually warms up to him. You three developed an odd, but happy, family over the course of a few months. Kunikuzushi took his time sewing a doll for him for his birthday while I picked fruits and flowers for his cake, and you're looking forward to giving his gifts, so you hurriedly dust down your skirt and take your basket as you made your way to the house.
Before you could open the gates, you heard your lover scream, and you ran towards the front door, practically kneeling in agony at the sight. The child you consider to be your son bleeds in the same living room where you three had dinner the night before. As he cries, Kunikuzushi pulls him closer, the doll now forgotten on the side. You clutch the two closer to you as you try to fight back your tears, soothing the puppet as he laments his third betrayal.
Kunikuzushi burned down the house you'd both built, dismissing your protests. Kuni has been cold and distant since the child's death, but you attempted to be empathetic despite your own pain. Even after he told you that he would join the Cryo Archon, you stayed with him in the hopes that he would resurface through the grief and return to you. It was a cold winter night when he arrived at the house he was given as a harbinger; the house was cold and large, as everything is. You missed the beaches and warmth that Inazuma has to offer, but Kuniku-Scaramouche needs you now more than ever.
He told you about his first kill in great detail, grinning like a lunatic as he expects you to praise him and hold him close to you for such a divine feat. Humans are weak in any case, he says, and they'll be more useful as training dummies for him. You can only hold back the bile in your throat as you hug him, remembering the family he murdered and massacred for fun. You know what you're doing is wrong, supporting and loving him despite the fact that he killed hundreds in the sake of the Tsaritsa, but you cave the moment his eyes settle on yours, because you can still see the Kunikuzushi you loved behind those cold and glaring eyes.
Scaramouche then betrays the Fatui for his own gain; you thought you were both going back to Inazuma to be together again, but you were proven wrong when he poisoned the traveler and stole the Gnosis from the Kitsune, who looks at you with pity and disdain, but you can only bow down in shame to your former leader. Scaramouche still brought you with him when he escaped the Fatui, and at night he'll hold you close to him while he wept. You sang the lullaby you used to sing whenever he had a nightmare, and it worked because he stopped crying but still gripped your clothes closer as if you'd vanish before his eyes.
You both travelled to Sumeru months later to see The Doctor; you're in the dark and unaware of his plans, yet you remain faithful and stayed. Even when hints of corruption sprouted at your side like black roots, you remained silent and backed Scaramouche on his quest to become a deity, hoping that after all this, he'd return to you and leave it all behind. He told you that he will find a way to cure you once you can't hide the corruption creeping up to your face and taking one of your eyes.
The corruption then took your hearing, but you can still remember Scaramouche crying during the night as he held you, his body racked with grief as he clutches you closer to him. You can't hear what he says anymore, and your eyesight is failing you, so you can only feel him embrace you. When the Doctor injects something into you, you can sometimes make out the things he says and even trace his face with your fingertips.
He'll smile at the hope that you're getting better, so he lets the Doctor attach the equipment to your head, saying that you just need to endure a bit longer to get better amidst your cries of anguish. When you woke up, you couldn't find Kunikuzushi.
The Doctor only told you that he was one step away from becoming a god and that he would visit soon as he clasps the head gear to you. Before you could even beg him to stop, you felt the electricity coursing through your brain as if it were harvesting every memory you had.
All you could do was scream until Kunikuzushi was the only thing you could think of before everything went black and you passed out.
The battle with the traveler occurred soon after the final piece of Scaramouche's transformation into a deity was placed, and the Doctor faded into the shadows as Scaramouche tested his newfound strength on his new body.
He's thrilled to show you his heavenly form, and now that he's a deity himself, he can cure your illness, but first he has to kill the pesky traveler.
Scaramouche was about to bury his sword in the traveler's chest at the end of the fight when he shouted your name.
He came to a halt, a breath away from murdering the traveler, but he pushes him to continue.
Scaramouche falls to the ground, his breathing becoming ragged as the numbness passes and he is only filled with dark misery. He looks up as he hears footsteps and notices you being carried by one of the forest rangers.
Blood pours from your eyes and nose, and he's not sure how he managed to reach you as the knowledge that you're dead washes over him. As he collapses on your body, he chokes on his cries, and a scream rips through the hall.
He screamed your name again and over until it was hardly heard, but he didn't stop.
Even if someone tried to take your corpse away for a proper funeral, they couldn't because Kunikuzushi lashes out at everybody who comes near him and you as he hugs your body tighter.
He can't let you go; he did it once, and now you're gone.
You can only stand by his side, unseen, while he weeps for his lover.
You're the only reason for him to exist, the one person who stayed by his side, now fate also took you from him.
"Take the gnosis"
The puppet turns, awaiting for the blade to pierce his heart.
"Kill me, traveler, and bury me alongside them so we can be together even after death."

For someone who feared the uncertainty of her future, you were handling it well. Screw it; You were happy and excited. Your high school progress was inconsistent despite the opportunities (a.k.a college options) it gave you.
When the first day of freshman college year started, the place was welcoming you. It felt like a rebirth without dying. A reset button to delete every data of the past, but didn't erase who you were.
Farming strawberries, walking home as you pass the cabbage farm of the Choi family, or getting paid to be Ms. Ji's shepherd were no longer y9ur habits as you moved to the concrete jungle. Thankfully, you were not alone; Ms. Ji's son and the son of the Choi couple were with you in the same college.
It was a new life and it was going well so far.
-
11:36 PM (Wednesday, Winter Season, Week 1)
Your legs pace to your rented flat as you try your best to endure the pain of your frozen ungloved fingers. Just like any other women's trousers, the one you wore had fake pockets serving no purpose.
"I really wanted to walk slowly..." talking to yourself, your words took shape under the forms of winter fog.
You grew fond of this city. Maybe a little too much to the extent, you don't take advantage of public transportation. Walking home made you feel grounded and one with nature, and you had to do it slowly.  There was something so heartwarming about the snow piles on the empty seats of the swings as you passed the mini playground at almost midnight.
However, your hands were on the verge of frostbite. You just needed to walk a kilometer to get to the flat you shared with Chanhee and Changmin, but instead your feet took you to the nearest convenience store from the sidewalk you were walking on. It lit the brightest blue 24-hour sign. As you pushed the transparent door, it nudged the shopkeeper's bell.
"Hello, welcome to Ministop. Let me know if I can help-" you let your eyelids blind you for a second, satisfied with the warmth.
Then, you realized; it might've been awkward for the cashier to see you just standing there, closing your eyes. If you think about it, it looked as if you didn't want to hear a thing he said. Maybe that’s why he never finished his sentence. You opened your eyes in an instant.
"Oh sorry, didn't mean to look like I was ignoring what you said, it's just-"
No. You knew exactly why he stopped finishing his cashier-to-customer mantra.
"Sunwoo?"
"Y/N?" He stood up from his seat.
"What are you doing at midnight? It's snowing hard! No gloves too! Just sit at the snack table, I'll get you hand warmers..." Before you get to form refusals in your head, he went to an alley (one that sold hand warmers, you assumed).
You stood still, watching his head from afar as other alleys blocked you from seeing the rest of his body. He came back to you with words kept. You had to raise your chin slightly to look up at his eyes. He avoided your eyes as he prepared the hand warmers for your use.
"How much do these cost?" He pulled your relaxed elbow to the snack table and you grunted with intentions to annoy him and you laughed.
"It's on me, hon'. Just use it." He pushed your shoulders down to make you sit.
Sunwoo stunned you frozen; it was nothing compared to the ice on your fingers. Something about him since the first time you both met in Music lecture dazzled you. He was always playful with the craft of his words to you. He would always call you 'honey', but you never knew what it meant. You always initiated eye contact, trying to search for answers behind those starry orbs.
Why you? Why 'honey'? Why would he always avoid it?
In your heart, you really wished it were the obvious answers. That the flowers of romance were blooming in his heart. Sometimes you can see when the flowers are overflowing, needing your heart for space to share. Another owner of love to share. He couldn't tend this garden of love on his own anymore.
You saw it. The times when he would laugh at your words thinking what you said was a joke. You knew that he was not listening at all. He just wanted to seem like that. He had to make sure you knew he 'cared'. But you know the difficulty was not that he did not care about what you had to say. It was the kind of care that he wanted to express; it was more than the kind of care a friend shows.
"Thank you..." you smiled at him.
He looked at you as he stood in front you for a few seconds. Just letting his eyes catch every detail of your feature. As if you were a statue sculpted by Michaelangelo. As if you were an art to be studied in a museum. He let his hands dust off the snow on your hair.
You felt loved before. Your parents showed you an unconditional, tough, and raw one. Your friends showed you a fulfilling, lively, and nonjudgmental one.
This? This was different. It was honey-like, warm, and hypnotizing.
"Sunwoo?" You stared at his face, refusing every desire and impulse to just get close to it.
"Yeah?" His voice turned breathy, nervous for your next words.
"Will you come to the party that Eric is hosting soon? Because I will." You know he would go wherever you would.
"Only because you are." He chuckled at you.

12:06 PM (Tuesday, Winter Season, Week 2)
Vacation week. Campus empty. No studies. No lectures. Winter season. No students.
What a dream...
"Oh my god! I swear, Y/N, your alarm shook the whole flat. You're making me take back my Atheism conversion if you keep doing this. I might have to worship 'He Who I Said I Believe In For The Sake Of My Christian Parents' just for the Mighty to take you back and make sure to give you good ears- OR BETTER earthquake awareness 'cause how the hell did this not wake you up?"
"Chanhee, you yapping like a mother apparently woke me up much better than my loud alarm. You should be my new alarm!"
"Yeah, sure... No wonder your mum had to use a wok and a ladle as music instruments for your alarm ringtone performance every morning back home. She should audition to be a K-Pop idol at this point, considering how she has been doing it for 18 years!!"
"Chanhee, what are the three rules we have in this house?" Changmin joined the conversation from the kitchen, about 6 meters away from your bedroom.
"Oh my- One, no 'your mum' jokes in the morning or else we'll fight. Two, no yapping for more than a minute to ensure tranquility. Three, always remember to wake Y/N up with patience as she is younger than us by 2 years." You smiled under the blankets, since Chanhee promised that he would cook dinner for 2 weeks if he didn't follow his own rules.
"And what's four?"
"HA! Rule number four! To mention Sunwoo if you need Y/N urgently. Get your butt out of that bed, it's Eric's party or else I'll use your mum's wok to bang your head." And just like that, your eyes widened and your spine corrected its posture under a second.
"How do you execute rule number four and forget the rest right after you mention them?! You're cooking tonight!"

8:24 PM (Tuesday, Winter Season, Week 2)
There were certain types of partygoers on campus. There are the frats, the nightclubbers, and the Music Fanatics. See, the music community on campus was still small. It consisted of eleven boys and eight girls. The community was a fun idea made by Sangyeon and Jacob. One is a producer for the other who is a singer. The community's activities were therapy for you. Creating a playlist with monthly themes, listening to songs without using your ears for the first time and describing them, and so many more. You wished the community was more popular.
Thankfully, these nineteen people really like being around each other. It was the first time the eight girls (including you) found their own "besties" or "girlfriends" as they would call it nowadays. So did the eleven boys. That was why they gather around for what they call "Eric's Party" every month, as he had the biggest flat and his parents were in Los Angeles working at the time.
The "Music Fanatics" were different partygoers. They loved it in Eric's house with a lit fireplace, board games, baking sessions, horror movies, K-Pop Random Play Dance, guessing songs by the first second, and many laughs.
"Okay, but why is the girls' group chat name XG... Like what does it even stand for? eXtra-weird Girls?" Eric and Maya were deep in their endless bantering session.
"Boy, it's extraordinary girls! Kind of creative unlike someone..." she coughed with the words The Boyz between the rough breaths.
"We wanted to take X to name our group chat, but you took it first! Now, we're left with a Z!"
"You're slow, and that's Y."
"Honestly, Cocona, that's a bar."
"KEVIN, ARE YOU NOT ON MY SIDE?"
"Hey, guys! Should we play truth or dare for once?" Asked Changmin as he looked down at the bag of crisps he was eating.
You looked at him with eyes screaming "Call it off! Retreat! What are you doing?!" However, he acted like he was not all aware of the eyes on me. When you frustrated Changmin with a romance that doesn't have progress, and proceeded to come home with complaints, he would roleplay Cupid in a human form.
You recalled the last time he made you play Truth or Dare. He asked you the question with an I-Know-Nothing face. When you answered "truth," you were asked about whether or not you have a romantic attraction towards anyone. When you answered the other one, you were told to stay in the closet for 10 minutes with your (then) crush, as the others proceeded. Thankfully, at the time Sunwoo hadn't joined the Music Fanatics to see that since that Hyunjun guy didn’t reciprocate your feelings.
In order not to act dodgy, you decided to stir your coffee. Looking at the clashes of waves as you made a tea cyclone in a ceramic cup. Trying hard to calm yourself down.
"Y/N. Truth or Dare?" Sangyeon asked you.
Kevin sipped his tea with a noisy slurp, looking at you with dancing eyebrows. Chisa and Jurin widened their eyes and giggled silently, trying their best not to look dodgy in front of Sunwoo. Changmin's lips left agape. Eric laughed with his head down.
Oh....
Fine. To hell with it.
"Dare."
"Oh, I know!" Changmin chimed in.

8:56 PM (Tuesday, Winter Season, Week 2)
"I don't know why it has to be me, honestly." Sunwoo made an effort to put on a platonic face.
You sat on the carpeted closet without replying to him. He grew worried as no words left your mouth. He was afraid of every change of feelings you had, especially about him.
"Hey... I'm sorry if this thing is weird..." He lowered his head.
"Sunwoo, sit in front of me." The sternness made his body obey.
"What's up, hon'?" He brushed away the hair covering your face.
"What's stopping you, Sunwoo?" His breath stopped for a second.
You could feel within half a meter of a distance, his brain was processing vague and dismissive sentences to get out of this situation.
"Stopping me from what- Oh what I said before? Oh, I'm actually fine with you in the closet, I don't mean it that way— Sorry if you think that I was pushing you—"
"You know what I mean." He felt trapped this time.
Because he knew what you meant. However, he was caged in fear, not letting himself be vulnerable to the girl in front of him, scared that whatever he had to offer was either not enough or robbed away from him.
"I'm scared that love will always hurt, just like my last one."
You looked up, feeling your soul levitated in the gaze of his midnight eyes.
"I'm not her, am I now?"
"No. You're much better. You want me and I can feel it."
"Do you want me?" He took a breath, feeling the tension choking his neck.
"More than you know." You placed your hands on his cheeks, you leaned closer to his face. His breath fanning your face.
You let the chemistry speak, eyes on his lips then to his gaze. Leaning closer to his face until your foreheads touched, he placed his hands on your waist. Then, he nodded.
Lips clashing one other, your desire for him only grew more. It was silent as you traded mouths, but both of you heard each other loud and clear. For him, this was everything. The drive to go to lectures early, the reason he had structured a daily routine just so that he can see you as much as possible, he has you now.
"Do you believe that heaven's real?" Sunwoo let his nose and forehead rest with yours.
"Not really, no."
"Then, I'll love you 'til it hurts like hell." The final words came from Sunwoo before an alarm went off.
"I better see lipstick stains on Sunwoo once y'all out!"

fucking hell,, yeah i wrote their first meeting. goddamn it. here, since you inspired me to write for the first time in three years:
..
Tom loudly, deliberately, kicked the milk bottle at his feet to skitter across the ground. The ratty bundle of rags squeaked, lost her balance, and tipped head-first into the bin. The aluminum can toppled over with the additional weight, the sound jarring in the narrow alleyway. Tom grinned maliciously. Amateur.
Two gangly legs flailed for a moment, until the ridiculous little urchin managed to lift the bin off of her. But Tom didn’t see the grease now slicking her bony arms, or the bits of garbage that clung to her wild black hair, or even how her skin was flushed a delicious beetroot down to where her delicate neck disappeared beneath the neckline of her potato-sack shirt. No, Tom saw green. Eyes glared defiantly up at him, richer than the cabbage he’s had to chop up for Mrs. Cole’s soup, more vivid than any brave weed sprouting up from the cracks in London’s drab sidewalks. A green more dazzling than even the church’s single stained-glass window when sunlight poured through it at the perfect angle.
The girl spluttered in indignation, words failing her. Then, with more bite than should fit in such a small body, “You… arsehole!”
And whatever retort he had ready died a holy death on his tongue because she. Her. This beautiful, divine slip of a girl, an angel in beggar’s clothing, just graced the Earth with his words. His. She was his. And Tom, who scorned the pastor for trying to cleanse the devil from his soul, who scorned every single person who passed through the chapel doors with faith in their hearts, found religion.
While Tom was lost in his reverent epiphany, his silence made the girl grow more and more agitated. She stood up, chest puffed out in humiliated anger. She took a measured step backwards, and no, no, no. That would not do at all.
“Would you like an apple?” Tom burst out, hastily digging the fruit out of his satchel, shining it on his pressed shirt, and shoved it out in front of him in offering. The combative stance she had taken fell from her shoulders like an abandoned overcoat. Her expression opened as a flower to the sky, wonder and something that Tom had never seen directed at himself before blooming in brilliant relief across her face. His breath hitched.
She stood there dumbly. Tom devoured her with his gaze. He took a tentative step forward and, when she didn’t move, closed the distance between them. The little ‘oh’ of her mouth began to relax, resolving into a sweet, hopeful smile. Something in his chest lurched and began to beat its fists against his ribcage. The girl extended a shaking hand, and as if moving through molasses, Tom placed the apple in her palm. A rush of warmth, a thrum of power where his fingertips grazed her wrist, and then there was light.
Anon, this is beautiful! Omg! 🥹😭
I love their first words! Beautiful writing! 🥰 Thank you for sharing this! 💖💖💖

THE MAGIC HORSES

(Brazilian Folktale)
One day there were three brothers, Pedro, José and Joãozinho, the youngest of all. Pedro went to his father one day and said to him:
"My father, know that I will take care of my own life."
The father insisted that he not go, but, seeing him obstinate, he consented, and instead of the blessing he did not ask for, he gave him a bag of money, which the son found little, so he gave him more. Days later, he was still crying about Pedro's absence, and his other son, José, approached the old man and said to him:
"My father, I want to go around the world and mind my own business. Instead of a blessing, I want money."
The poor man gave him advice, but when the boy didn't respond, he gave him another bag of money, and, as José found it too little, he gave him everything he had left. New tears and lamentations, but it wasn't long before Joãozinho, the youngest of the brothers, came to see his father, who said to him, with all affection and respect:
"My father, I come to ask for your blessing, as I also wish to leave."
The old man, as this was his dearest son, began to cry, but as the young man insisted and begged him a lot, he had no choice but to consent, but he told him that he had nothing to give him, except his blessing. Joãozinho replied that he didn't want anything else. And, having lunch and missing it a lot, he set off on his way.
Meanwhile, Pedro, after walking for a long time, he went to an old castle, where there was a beautiful orchard and a large vegetable garden, which, according to what saying, was devastated every night by mysterious horses, which no one could get hold of or restrain.
Pedro knocked on the door and asked for a job. The castellan told him what was happening and the boy proposed accepting the job of guarding the garden and defending it. At night the boy lay in wait, but eventually he fell asleep. The horses came and devastated the garden. Pedro woke up to the rumor. But the damage was already done and the animals disappeared as if by magic. The next day the castellan was indignant and fired the poor boy. After a few days he went there to see José. He was employed for the same purpose at the castle and the result was not different, so he was soon fired.
At that time Joãozinho was already traveling and, as he had no resources for accommodation, he spent the nights at the ranches. One of those nights the figure of Our Lady, his godmother, appeared to him, who blessed him and said:
"João, I will be with you, my son!"
Then she gave him some objects, saying:
"Take this hammock so that you can rest in it, and this little machete, so that you can have fun when you rest, and this box of pins that you will stick in the hammock, so that, when lying in it, you will always be vigilant."
Having said that, she disappeared, leaving the boy dazzled. Anyway, Joãozinho arrived at that castle and like his brothers did, he asked for a job. The castel lord made him an offer to guard the garden and Joãozinho accepted. At night he tied his hammock to the branches of two trees, stuck the pins in the hammock and started playing his little machete.
When he wanted to doze off, he felt the pins stick in him and he started playing the machete. Then he heard a rumor. It was the first horse, very beautiful and all baio, that arrived.
The youth went to meet the animal, having first plucked some cabbage leaves that he offered him. The horse, which was enchanted, said to him: "
"You did well to do this good deed. I won't ruin your garden. Take this thread from my tail in repayment and when you are in a pinch or when you want something, you have nothing to do but say these words, and I will be by your side:
Oh! my baio horse,
Long tail to the ground,
Shoed on all four feet,
Help me on this occasion"
Later a horse appeared, as beautiful as the other and all black. And everything happened as before, with the boy receiving a thread from the mysterious animal's tail. Almost at dawn the third appeared, a beautiful horse, all white. The same thing happened as with the others, Joãozinho receiving a strand of the white horse's tail. In the morning the castellan felt great admiration and joy when he saw that his garden had been spared. João kept what happened a secret and stayed in the castle for two years, from where he retired, very well paid, but with great sadness from his boss who loved him very much.
Continuing with his fate, he ended up in a large city, where there was a king who had a daughter, who would only marry the young man who, in the next horse racing tournament that was supposed to last three days, took the finger from his right hand. from the princess the ring she would bring, placed on the balcony of the highest floor of the palace.
João heard about this and went to work at the home of some young people who lived together, given over to great debauchery. The boys gave him kitchen work and began to treat him very badly; but the young man performed his duties well, and, although he had already recognized the two brothers among his bosses, he did not want to make himself known.
The youths also didn't talk about anything other than the tournament, and they all made a plan to each be the winner of the princess's hand. For this they ordered the best horses and on the announced day they left for the chosen place. When Joãozinho was alone, he took the hair from the bay horse's tail and said:
"Oh! my baio horse,
Long tail to the ground,
Shoed on all four feet,
Help me on this occasion."
Suddenly a beautiful and dazzling bay appeared before him, all dressed in silver and gold, while João saw himself, with amazement, dressed like a prince. He mounted his horse and left.
The candidates, who were many, had made the attempt in vain, when the strange rider appeared, who, in a flight, straightening himself in the stirrups of the saddle, almost took off the ring.
There was a lot of applause but the prize was not won. Everyone, including the princess and João's brothers, were dying to know who that knight would be. Inquiries were made, but nothing was discovered. On the second day, everything happened as on the first. João said:
"Oh! my black horse,
Long tail to the ground,
Shoed on all four feet,
Help me on this occasion."
So the black horse appeared, even better harnessed than the other, because everything about him was just gold and João was transformed by his clothes into a beautiful prince.
He mounted and left. The runners had completed the race in vain. Then the new knight appears and, in a flight of his horse, almost, by a whisker, snatched the ring from the princess who smiled, enchanted, at him. But even this time it was not discovered who the strange apparition was and a thousand searches and conjectures were made. The third and final test arrived.
Everyone rushes to the large tournament square, each of the knights riding the most beautiful and fiery animal. Joãozinho then, to play a good joke on his brothers and companions who had always mistreated him, broke all the pots and crockery in the house and left his name written on the wall, in charcoal, to make himself known. And then he took the thread from the white horse's tail and uttered the enchanted words:
"Oh my white horse,
Long tail to the ground,
Shoed on all four feet,
Help me on this occasion."
Soon the white horse appeared, even more beautiful than the others and better harnessed, as the harness was made of gold and diamonds. The prince's costume, which João's clothes weretransformed into, was richer than those of other times.
He mounted and rode away faster than the wind. The knights had already carried out the test in vain.
But the princess was waiting, smiling, for the mysterious knight. When he appeared in a rapid career through space, everyone looked at him in amazement, when, suddenly, with a jump from his horse, he passed like lightning through the air and took the ring from the princess's finger.
Everyone clapped, except Pedro and José, who were very envious, sad and overwhelmed.
The king went with his procession to meet João. They took the winner to the princess who was waiting for him, happy and laughing. When the brothers arrived home and found everything broken and in disarray, they were indignant, but when they saw their brother's name written on the wall, they immediately suspected that he was the mysterious knight, they went to meet him and apologized for the evil they had done to him.
João received them with joy and affection, wanted them to attend his wedding with the princess and found them good jobs in the palace.
Everyone was very happy. And so, the story entered through one door and left through another, one, two, three... amen.

Here is a goddess based on two figures from Russian mythology and a being from Norse mythology!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leshazurnovik Sviatogur Himonglevatus D’Nexomuwilga is a fairly enigmatic goddess who can be quite unpredictable and volatile. She has complex moral ambiguity, both acting as beneficial and hazardous with generally reasonable deeds. She only aids people who treat her with genuine respect and humility, while providing them protection and proper sustenance. She often tests the moral character of those who encounter her by handing out tasks, asking tricky questions, and making them play a rigged game of cards. She’s quite knowledgeable and wise, but does have an inclination to misguide travellers, shepherds, and children. Despite her seriousness and potential ferocity, she’s secretly festive and fun-loving. Leshazurnovik can be terribly mischievous, aggressively stubborn, and callously sadistic, but it depends on how her day is going.
Her door-sized rectangular figure is slightly overweight with a flattened, jutting rib-like structure, hooked nose, and warts. She also has bushy eyebrows, sagging breasts, a prominent vulva, metal teeth, a swollen belly, and slim arms. Leshazurnovik is an elderly woman with curved horns, cloven feet, and an extensive beard of translucent blue waves with lichen and white foam. Her luxuriant grey hair has long curly strands and it’s adorned with mushrooms, autumnal leaves, and moss. Besides her sturdy chicken feet, she has a large dragon tail with cobweb-covered spring leaves fur and shimmering killarney green scales. Her rough skin is unnaturally pale and she has perpetually unblinking, yet dazzling lead-blue eyes with red and green tapetum lucidum. Her eyelashes are red, her left eye is larger than the other, and her right ear is half eaten. She dons a bone white blouse and a bossanova sarafan with tamarillo embroidered ribbons of pink and dark red-purple cabbage roses with fern green leaves. She has a purplish-black skirt and a headscarf made from a random assortment of carnivore skins. Leshazurnovik also wears a necklace of worn rope and baby human skulls and a comfy cloak of black wool.
She’s able to grow as tall as the highest treetops and as small as a single blade of grass. Leshazurnovik can audibly mimic the sounds of untamable beasts, familiar voices that travellers, shepherds, and children know, and the melodies of swaying trees. When flying on her giant mortar, her aura can generate tempests, earthquakes, and devastating waves. She can devour newly released souls and absorb the memories, emotions, knowledge, physical and mental pain, and vital fluids of living creatures. Leshazurnovik has surprising authority over dawn, noon, night, black magic, and forests, and she can shapeshift into all flora and fauna. She’s capable of bestowing people immortality and keeping magical items in her hut’s invisible basement that she only has access to. She doesn’t cast a shadow, and she’s able to utilise wooded areas, marshes, pyres, carnivores, phoenix feathers, and boiling cauldrons to teleport.
Her supreme knowledge is only limited to magic, the occult, natural disasters, ecosystems, physical and mental maturity, hunting, cooking, and death. She can summon wild boars, crocodiles, wolves, bears, goats, horses, chickens, owls, frogs, magpies, and spirits. She has the ability to obstruct paths with fallen trees, bodies of water, and animal carcasses, and conceal missing persons. She makes their presence known through distant sounds, yet making them remain elusive and impossible to locate. Leshazurnovik has strength, durability, speed, senses, and a bite that are all nearly transcendent. She uses pieces of birch tree and cow pelts to foretell disasters, and her pacts involve not killing crows, damaging trees, witnessing newborn things, and disturbing the hedges. When pacts with her are broken, it leads to the demise of livestock and/or the families of those who made a deal with her.
FAMILY:
Mulevhoka Rusvelochka (adoptive daughter)
ALIASES/NICKNAMES:
Baba Yaga
Leshy
Himinglæva
Bony leg
Old Lady of the Forest
She With Teeth of Iron
FUN FACTS/EXTRA INFORMATION:
She’s an avatar of J’Tervaschin and Charuzlonje
Her domain is a never-ending dense boreal, coniferous, and deciduous forest with a fountain of youth and a dwelling that lies deep in the centre. This dwelling is a rickety wooden hut that’s perched atop of four gigantic chicken legs and it continuously spins around, stopping at nighttime. It’s surrounded by a fence made of skulls and bones from unfortunate travellers. In this domain, there are also old dried trees, a fiery river, and a prominence of phoenixes.
She usually flies around in a human-sized mortar, wielding a big enough pestle in her left hand.
She’s often accompanied by a black goat, two wolves, three hens, five wild boars, five crocodiles, and a small army of child spirits.
As an Æylphitus, the different parts of her name have special meanings: Leshazurnovik means “she of the deciduous forest”, Sviatogur means “sacred mountain”, Himonglevatus means “transparent wave or heaven-shining one”, and D’Nexomuwilga means “field of contentment, corpse-rushes or no working”.
She sits with her left leg crossing over the right
An iron kettle, cauldron, and broomstick are her sacred symbols.

Richard Siken - Fear
I am jet fuel and six miles long. I am bad business. I make the rooms grow smaller. Underneath my shirt is another shirt and under that the cloudbanks clang their worksong. They pitch their weight in droves. This is a cold shelf, Sport. A struck bell. I gloat when I say this. I shine in the frost. You are a ham tied up in string. You are pineapples and cherries and ham on a plate at dinnertime. Fate eats you up. We rub against the facts now. My face is a glass jar. My heart is applesauce and a cold spoon. I clear the decks and spend my leverage. The rest is dazzle. You are an obstacle course and I am a pair of dice. You hop, like a rabbit, cabbage to cabbage. I win by a landslide. I smear the mirror and distort your face. You are the flipped coin and I am the outcome. I don’t decide, I collect; thumbed scale or not. You hit the ground, or so you say. You can’t unknow the facts so you run faster. You, the boy from bruised tomorrow, under the eaves where everything gets put down. I am a lamp, you are a gun. You spend your bullets on a hat, I burn when touched.

Quote
With your eyes, I will see the deepest, most dazzling place within a white cabbage, the precious young petals concealed at its heart. With your eyes, I will see the chill of the half-moon risen in the day. At some point those eyes will see a glacier. They will look up at that enormous mass of ice and see something sacred, unsullied by life. They will see inside the silence of the white birch forest. Inside the stillness of the window where the winter sun seeps in. Inside those shining grains of dust, swaying along the shafts of light that slant onto the ceiling. Within that white, all of those white things, I will breathe in the final breath you released.

So you can do the Asian cabbage diet with cabbage, different forms of cabbage.

Tất tần tật món bánh khoái Huế siêu hút mắt năm 2023
Viet cuisine offers a treasure trove of delightful dishes for food lovers to explore. Among the many gems is bánh khoái from Hue - small rice cakes topped with a vibrant assortment of ingredients that stimulate the senses.
Bánh khoái Hue take their name from the satisfying 'crunch' they emit when enjoyed. At their heart is a pillow-soft rice cake base, whilst the toppings set them apart. Traditional styling sees minced pork and mushy green beans adorned atop. The spices woven into the pork impart gentle warmth whilst the beans lend brightness. Together they form a perfect harmony.
More modern innovators get creative. Salmon, shrimps and seasonal seafood bring the bounty of the coast to each bite. Vegetables like zucchini and cabbage also make nutritious additions. Fruit too has its place - mango and lychee variants dazzle with their natural vibrant hues. 省 The possibilities are endless depending on chef's whims and availability of l - saqz99a6vv

CSA WEEK 12
P i c k l i s t
Bok Choy - Napa Cabbage - Green beans - Shishito Peppers - Cayenne Pepper - Sweet Peppers -
Cherry Tomatoes - Mint - Carrots - Cilantro
This week at edgewater:
The cilantro continues to thrive.  I bet over the past few weeks you’ve had a hankerin for some basil… me too.  However, the herbs were flooded with river water back when we considered ark building, and it takes a minute to get the next planting going (yup, We are still seeding and planting over here!).  Also we’ve seen signs of downy mildew around the plants which is kind of like an airborne kiss of death for basil… So this Summer as a result, we continue to celebrate cilantro- who, as it turns out, loves a rain girl summer. I am aware that cilantro is not everyone’s fave herb- so thank goodness for Mrs. T and the mint she picked this week to distract the cilantro haters among us.  A new planting of parsley has started to fluff up and stretch its wings- and to be safe, we planted it in a greenhouse because you just can't trust the skies these days.  Fingers crossed you get dazzled with these bunches over the next few weeks, but until then, cilantro is queen.
Also over the next few weeks, get pumped!  It is officially cherry tomato overwhelm in the fields/ the packshed/ the farmstand/ the co-ops/ your kitchen etc.  Embrace this moment, and make some cherry roasted tomato candy to be eaten on everything all the time (recipe to come, probs next week).
AND LASTLY FOR NEXT WEEK, we are in the midst of planning our Fall CSA, which is a mini extension of Summer, but sub out tomatoes for winter squash.  STAY TUNED FOR DEETS!
FARMY FOODIE PRO-TIPS:
First off, bok choy + napa + carrots + hottie pep, HELLO KIMCHI! Cruise back on the Edgewater Farm CSA blog to week 4, for an easy peasy kimchi recipe.  Look for, BAECHU KIMCHI BY MORIHOUSE (@mori.house)
(This is admittedly an extremely New England version of a Thai Salad. It does its best to mimic the heavenly Som Tam papaya salad that you will find all over Thailand, but here we are in the upper Valley with 0 papayas in sight.  Give it a shot, I think you will be delighted with the results)
750g raw french green beans
1 cup baby tomatoes (halved)
2 yellow onions
1 1/2 cups raw peanuts
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
1 cup fresh mint leaves
1 cup fresh basil leaves
Dressing
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
2 tbsp fresh lime juice
3 tbsp white sugar
3 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp fresh birds eye chili, diced
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and place raw peanuts on a baking sheet.
Slice onions in thin half-moon rings, and then heat up grapeseed oil on medium heat.
Roast the peanuts in the oven for about 10 minutes until they start to brown.
Cook the onions for 15-20 minutes until they're brown and crispy. Stir every few minutes so they brown evenly.
In the meantime, prepare the rest of the salad. Mince the garlic, birds eye chili, and slice your tomatoes if you haven't already. Clean and cut your green beans into bite sized pieces.
In a large bowl, make the dressing by combining all of the ingredients using a whisk (garlic, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar). Add half of the diced chilis and taste the sauce to see if it's the right level of spice before adding more.
Once your onions have finished cooking, remove and place on a plate lined with a paper towel.
Remove your roasted peanuts and once cool, lightly chop them.
Add your green beans and tomatoes into the large bowl and toss with the fresh herbs. You can keep this for a few hours in the fridge.
When you're ready to serve, add in the fried onions and roasted peanuts.
Salsa Very Verde
FROM THE cookbook,
That Sounds So Good by Carla Lalli Music (which i highly reccomend getting a copy :)
JENNY’S NOTE: My brilliant friend Claire made this last week, and I had to nab the recipe for ya.  You might need more herbs than what is in the CSA this week, BUT I highly recommend holding onto this recipe, making it with what you have in sight and schmearing on everything.  It’s too damn good.
2 oil-packed anchovy fillets
Kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 garlic clove, finely grated
1 shallot, minced (your red onion from last week is fine)
2 tablespoons capers, drained and finely chopped
1-inch pieces spicy green chile (such as jalapeño or serrano), finely chopped
2 cups thinly sliced tender herbs (such as basil, parsley, tarragon, chervil, chives, cilantro, and/or mint), loosely packed
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
Freshly ground black pepper
Place anchovies on cutting board and sprinkle with Kosher salt. Finely chop anchovies, then use the edge of your knife to smash them against the cutting board until they become a paste. Scrape into a medium bowl and add red pepper flakes, grated garlic, shallot, capers, and green chile. Add the chopped herbs and olive oil and stir. Once combined, add cider vinegar and taste to adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
Charred Shishito Peppers
(THE SECOND* SIMPLEST WAY TO ACHIEVE THE PERFECT BITE)
2 teaspoons grapeseed or olive oil
1 pound shishito peppers
Flaky sea salt
Directions
In a large cast-iron skillet, heat 1 teaspoon of the grapeseed oil. Add half of the peppers and cook over moderately high heat, turning occasionally, until charred and tender, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl. Repeat with the remaining oil and peppers.
season with flaky sea salt. Transfer to a platter; eat  ASAP
*FIRST SIMPLE WAY TO ACHIEVE EATING PERFECTION INVOLVES ONE TOMATO AND A DASH OF SALT

IX. BUT WHAT WORD WAS IT
‘There he was one day (new town) in a hayfield outside my school standing

I never asked

To ask

Have you ever read the Homeric Hymn to Demeter?
remember how Hades rides out in the daylight
on his immortal horses swathed in pandemonium.
Takes the girl down to a cold room below
while her mother walks the world and damages every living thing.
Homer tells it as a story of the crime against the mother.
For a daughter’s crime is to accept Hades’ rules
which she knows she can never explain
and so breezing in she says
to Demeter:
“Mother here is the whole story.
Slyly he placed
in my hands a pomegranate seed sweet as honey.’

Foodstuffs That Should Be Avoided After Teeth Whitening
White and bright teeth are everyone's dream. Yes, it boosts everybody’s confidence. Nowadays with innovative dental procedures, it has become a trend to go for teeth whitening procedures if someone has yellowish teeth. This process helps you to be a proud owner of white teeth with a dazzling smile but also brings along precautions recommended by your dentist you need to follow to make this procedure a success. You are required to do regular home care. Here we will discuss food items that should be avoided after getting this procedure done on your teeth. As some food items may stain or weaken your teeth. You need to take care of your teeth as you take care of your white shirt from stains and spots. Let us learn about these one by one!
Acidic foodstuff
Acidic food products are completely banned if you have got your teeth whitened. As in the teeth whitening procedure, your teeth get bleached to make them lighter in shade, and you can get it done in varying levels of shade. Such a procedure makes your tooth enamel weak and eating acidic food items would harm the teeth and weaken them further. Weak enamel also leads to increased sensitivity to hot and cold. So, you should avoid citrus fruits, tomatoes, pickles, processed meat, limes, etc.
Dark colored beverages
These would lead to staining of your teeth, hence, you should be cautious about drinking tea, coffee, colas, grape juice, etc. If you continue having such beverages, you may need to get the process done again which would defeat the purpose of getting your teeth whitened. Similarly, red wine is not recommended after a teeth whitening procedure.
Dark Sauces and dyed food
It is recommended to avoid dark-colored sauces as these would stain your teeth like soya sauce, tomato sauce, etc. Most of the sauces are acidic as well hence should be avoided completely. Food items containing natural or artificial dye should be avoided like candy, chocolates, etc. These are prone to make your teeth stained.
Dark-colored veggies and fruits
All dark-colored veggies and fruits like green leafy vegetables e.g. spinach, berries, beetroot, carrot, purple cabbage, pomegranate, blueberries, and cherries, should be avoided as these would also stain your teeth. These would stain your teeth.
By avoiding some of the recommended foodstuffs you can retain the whiteness of your teeth for long periods. If you are keen to drink some beverage sometimes, you may use a straw and after drinking, you should immediately wash your mouth thoroughly with water. So, you need to follow all such oral care instructions.
If you are willing to get your teeth whitened, you may take expert advice from the experienced teeth whitening dentists of Harish Jagtani Hospitals.
