Backstage photos from yesterday (and last day) in Frankfurt, Germany in the UK/International Tour 2022, 07 January 2023.

Carrie Willis has been covering Demeter for a few days while Frances Dee recovers from injury, and was ecstatic to dance with Lizzie Nance as Bombalurina.

Kayleigh Thadani covered Tantomile once more, here with Shakeel Kimotho as Coricopat, Martin Callaghan as Old Deuteronomy, Daniel Timoney covering Alonzo, and Aaron Elijah as Admetus.

Talking about my experience(s) under the cut for anyone interested (in the end, it’s for myself anyway)!

So, I’ve actually seen CATS live for the third (and last) time today! I’ve seen three different Grizabella’s now, which were all phenomenal and made me cry. Each cast member is truly amazing. Every single time I was blown away by all of them! It’s so exciting to watch them perform and to see what they’re doing when they aren’t in focus at all. I love, love, love their background acting. It’s a lot of fun! My favourite cat has been and always will be Skimbleshanks. First two times he was played by Philip Bertioli, who unfortunately came down with covid this week, so today it was Freddie Clements. Both of them are truly fantastic versions of this character! Would love to see them again, heh. Freddie’s Skimble today also paid so much attention to Admetus and Mungojerrie, out of the younger cats, which I found quite lovely to watch. Generally, I’m still blown away. The show is just so great (I mean, duh, it’s mf CATS) and since today was the last performance here it had a bit of a different feeling to it and I like that the cast (especially Rum Tum Tugger in this case) let you feel how much they enjoyed performing this all month long. Of course, the tour just started, so I’m sure they’re all eager to continue as well. It just felt amazing, is all. Their fun was palpable. <3 I’m still collecting my thoughts, so I’m pretty much just gushing right now, ah, well! All in all, I’m incredibly grateful and lucky to have seen it three times. Unforgettable, truly. <3

Also my seat today was phenomenal. I’m so lucky!!! I was so close and got hit by tails as they walked past me a couple of times, hjskfhkjhkl! This was my view:

I took a few screenshots and gave them a quick edit on my phone! The horses present are my Bay Roan Ardennes, Hera - she's an absolute UNIT, and I see why Bill loves Brown Jack!

The second is the backside of my Red Dun Overo Mustang, Ulysses. My problem child.

My third and final baby is my Blue Roan Overo Criollo, Demeter. I love her dearly as she's my first horse of "choice" persay. No action shot for her, as riding to Rhodes has too many trees.

Golden | Solo

It didn’t take a genius to get the gist of camp halfblood. Before dawn broke, Jude made his way quietly out the door and breathed in the sweet, dewy summer air. The mist filled his very pores and he swore the breeze met his tongue at the far rear. No longer clouded and choking on drifting ash.

He took in his surroundings; the general store, Agathys’ apothecary, the training grounds where a massive centaur noted his presence from a distance, and even the forge which was the only source of life at such an hour. Scattered rows of legendary houses, protecting each demigod who healed in their own unique manner.

All the while, Jude said absolutely nothing, made not even a gesture or thoughtful hum to himself. He drank this all in, his new life, as if it were all still a dream. There was so little energy left in the eldest Voland to hollar out in exhilleration, that was until Jude arrived at his desired destination. The pegasi stables.

A silly grin stretched from ear to ear once he’d reached for the stable door to find a small group of satyr’s carefully tending to the nodding stallions and mares. A pair of foals were still nestled up in a corner together, savoring a peaceful slumber atop the dry hay. Even with the cloud of fine dust in the air and recently shoveled debris, there was no finer scent to the son of Demeter.

He expressed his equestrian experience and want to the first satyr who approached him, conscious that the many steeds he’d trained and ridden in the past lacked the mighty force of these wings. Once Jude was led to the pegasus this satyr felt confident would suit his needs, he attentively listened to further instructions. To ride was the nearest level of recklessness Jude hapilly volunteered for, but the goal was always safety of himself and the creature. Learning something new, adopting other rules, made the affair all the more enticing.

While saddling Xanthos, a blue roan stallion, Jude splayed his calloused rider fingers across the satiny shimmer of the pegasus’ shoulder. Honored to have this opportunity to silently admire the legendary beast, especially once the fur transitioned to the dusty softness of down at the wings very root. The click of metal, stretch of leather, thrumming of his very heart ready to pop out from his chest.

Jude smiled toward the satyr who seemed satisfied with their talk and preparation. The goat-man opened the pasture gate, enabling Xanthos to jog out across the corral dampened by morning dew. It took a moment to understand the horses gait. Considering their size and vice’s. Only just meeting Xanthos, this was of course meant to be more of a pleasure ride. Soon enough, with both hands English style on the reign fixed to a hackamore bit, Jude’s body and breath rode in time with the horse.

The corral was wide enough to hold up to four of these massive steeds at a time. Lanes stretched beyond as a sort of launch zone for their wings to stretch out freely. Jude was anxious to take flight, but wanted to to be more in touch with Xanthos. Learning to walk before leaping. The blue roan was an immortal, and Jude guessed a bit of an ego matched it. He wanted assurance that the pegasus would allow him to lead.

With little effort, the stallion directed a counter-clockwise circle around the pen. Jude pulled further to the left as the satyr, Lenios, joined them to supervise and assist with direction. With a final pull in tandem, Xanthos stood at a halt and let out gentle but steamy breath from his strong lungs. It seemed that the chariot horse remained warry of taking direction with very little suggestion.

“Good lad...” Jude finally spoke, his grin reignited while patting the pegasus’ left shoulder. Now for the famous last words. “I think we’re ready for flight.”

“Ye ‘ardly rode a canter.” Lenios laughed with a shake of his head. Xanthos let out a disapproving snort toward Lenios’ rejection which caused the satyr to raise his hand dismissively. “There’s good reason we chaperone new arrivals. Xanthos can’t deny a seranade from me flute.”

With a breath shared with his ride, the son of Demeter didn’t allow Lenios’ caution to break his spirit. “Let us see it now.” The satyr requested, waving once more.

We’ll show him. Jude thought to himself, convinced that Xanthos himself shared this determination. With a kick and steering of the reign, Jude led Xanthos to the right. Immediately, Xanthos’ gait transtioned. Jog became trot. Then, that canter Lenios wanted to see appeared in confident stride. Jude watched as Xanthos’ mane bounced in time. He felt across his thigh the pegasus’ wings begin to stretch slightly. Some doubt, and yet a knowing grin crossed the rider’s face.

“That’s it. Very good.” Lenios cheered from the pens center. “Now, let’s adjust the gait once more and--”

The breath was knocked out of the satyr’s lungs as the blue roan stallion flexed their wings out once and gave a rebellious flap.

“Oi! Xanthos, no you don’t!”

Before Lenios could fetch the pan flute looped around his torso, Jude steered a sharp right and gave a clear shout. The satyr ended up on his butt as Xanthos charged forward in a flawless gallop, knocking the caretaker over by a sweep of the wing. Against the odds, carried by powerful and ancient wings, paired with Jude’s timing they were carried over the fencing with a confident kick. Xanthos leaped beneath Jude, and the equestrian prepared himself out of instinct for the landing to follow. Only none came.

Now he was breathless. The stuffy, warm air surrounding him formed into a clean current. Flowing across Xanthos’ broad nose, through the long wavy mane, and finally pushing back the rider’s bangs. It was whistling softly, faintly, and soon enough Xanthos had climbed them above the heavy summer dew to greet a golden sunrise.

The sight of the horizon and Xanthos’ wings stretching on forever. The feeling to see morning again, the sky. This true freedom. Jude allowed his ride to coast them further from camp. Over the forest green, to a plummeting bluff where the waves skirted peacefully across the shoreline. Where the sun glowed amber.

“It’s finally mine.” Jude finally spoke in secret with Xanthos behind trembling lips. “My life.”

Coat Headcanons:

Gus is a chocolate mackerel tabby.

Bombalurina is a cinnamon classic tabby.

Demeter is a fawn tortoiseshell with white.

Grizabella is a chocolate silver shaded.

Jellylorum is a chocolate tortoiseshell with white.

Jemima is a black tortoiseshell with white.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer are red mackerel tabbies.

Skimbleshanks is a red classic tabby.

Admetus/Plato is a red ticked tabby bicolor.

Tumblebrutus is a chocolate harlequin.

Cassandra is a chocolate point.

Munkustrap is a black silver mackerel tabby.

Old Deuteronomy is lilac.

Rum Tum Tugger is a red classic tabby.

Coricopate and Tantomile are chocolate spotted tabbies.

Electra is a black tortoiseshell.

Breed Headcanons:

Rum Tum Tugger is a Maine Coon.

Old Deuteronomy is a Norwegian Forest Cat.

Other Headcanons:

Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger are Old Deuteronomy’s sons.

Rum Tum Tugger is obviously the rebellious one, while Munkustrap is the good boy.

Munkustrap is the one who will take over Old Deuteronomy's position as leader of the Jellicle Tribe when the latter dies. This suits Rum Tum Tugger just fine.

Grizabella was a showcat in her prime.

Grizabella was banished from the Jellicle Tribe after deciding to leave to explore the world.

The reason Grizabella keeps reaching out and asks to be touched in Memory is that touch would mean she’s welcome back into the Jellicle Tribe.

Rum Tum Tugger is a showcat. He has the typical showcat cut in that he’s shaved except for his mane and tail.

Demeter is a lesbian and is mates with Bombalurina.

Mr. Mistoffelees and Rum Tum Tugger are mates.

The Heaviside Layer is really a more symbolic rebirth than a literal one for the Jellicle Tribe. It’s a chance at a new life in that it’s an opportunity for a cat to travel without repercussions from the Tribe or to find another human owner.

Rumpleteazer and Mungojerrie are twins.

A busy last few days the UK/International Tour 2022 in Frankfurt, Germany (04-06 January 2023).

Aimee Hodnett covered Grizabella yesterday (06 January 2023) for the first time in quite a while, sharing a minute long clip of herself performing Act I Memory.

We also finally have a full body photo of her as Grizabella (now do Babygriz Aimee!)

If Griz-Aimee was not enough, the entire booth (yes, all seven of them!) went on for the show yesterday!

Anna Campkin covering Jellylorum, Carrie Willis covering Demeter, Connor McAllister covering Young Deuteronomy, Daniel Timoney covering Alonzo, Freddie Clements covering Carbucketty, Kayleigh Thadani covering Tantomile, and Roan Pronk covering Mungojerrie.

The female Swings also documented the changes to their characters over each day this week as well.

Kayleigh first covering Bombalurina and then Tantomile; Anna moving from Jennyanydots to 'Autumn' to Jellylorum; and Carrie moving from her Tantomile cover debut to the Swing 'Babygriz' to Demeter.
