In his 1941 State of the Union address, Franklin Roosevelt said there was “nothing mysterious about the foundations of a healthy and strong democracy” and that he, along with the nation, looked forward to “a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.” Famously, those freedoms were the “freedom of speech and expression,” the “freedom of every person to worship God in his own way,” the “freedom from want” and the “freedom from fear.” Those freedoms were the guiding lights of his New Deal, and they remained the guiding lights of his administration through the trials of World War II.

There are, I think, four freedoms we can glean from the Republican program.

There is the freedom to control — to restrict the bodily autonomy of women and repress the existence of anyone who does not conform to traditional gender roles.

There is the freedom to exploit — to allow the owners of business and capital to weaken labor and take advantage of workers as they see fit.

There is the freedom to censor — to suppress ideas that challenge and threaten the ideologies of the ruling class.

And there is the freedom to menace — to carry weapons wherever you please, to brandish them in public, to turn the right of self-defense into a right to threaten other people.

Roosevelt’s four freedoms were the building blocks of a humane society — a social democratic aspiration for egalitarians then and now. These Republican freedoms are also building blocks not of a humane society but of a rigid and hierarchical one, in which you can either dominate or be dominated.

Because I think Veterans should be cared for after they finish their active service to the US?

Because I think children should be fed and learn to read and write?

Because people who worked their whole lives and paid into Social Security should get their money back when they retire? Because housewives who worked their whole life managing the home and raising the children should receive their spouse's Social Security if their spouse dies before they do? Ya know there's no actual paycheck for managing a home, raising children, being the chauffeur and requisition officer, bookkeeper, secretary, personal assistant when you're a "housewife" or "homemaker."

Because I believe citizens shouldn't go bankrupt and lose everything because their spouse got sick and spent months in the hospital? Or that families shouldn't be destitute because a single parent or their child got cancer?

Because I think children and teachers should not be gunned down at school, and people shouldn't be slaughtered at the grocery store, movie theater, dance club, concert, church, temple, any public place?

Because I think people should have some kind of roof over their heads and food?

Because people should have drinkable water and breathable air?

Because I think it should be easier to vote and shouldn't be made harder?

Because I think billionaires and millionaires should have the same tax rate as the carpenter, the accountant, the nurse, the fast food worker?

Because I believe in the separation of church and state?

Because I believe people have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

Because I think our government should establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare of its country and peoples?

Okay, anonymous, chickenshit maga. Democrats don't need a yellow badge. All you have to do is look for the people who are not wearing AR-15 lapel pins, red hats, or anything with trump on it.

I think when people hear me say I'm neither Republican nor Democrat, they assume I'm centrist.

Nah, that's a cop out, I'm not centrist. I just think both parties are run by shitty people for shitty people. They don't care about the average citizen. They only care about billionaires who will fund what they want for the government.

And to get in office, the people who run in seats of office will lie and cheat and make promises for a "better tomorrow."

Personally, I see the Republicans dream of tomorrow as a hateful, ignorant wasteland without knowledge or equality. But they see it as idk, nothing that isn't "Christian" or maybe "mormon," idk. They just don't want minorities to have rights or books teaching about when minorities were treated even worse than today. Minorities are still treated like shit btw. Also, they promise stability or whatever that they never actually give. The whole time, they help billionaires fuel war and help ruin the lives of those in poverty. Help pay to kill the innocent and claim its patriotism. As they decimate indigenous land.

Democrats dream of tomorrow looks better, but it seeks like it'll forever only be on paper. Equal rights, more affordable everything. If you vote for me, I'll work to stop this problem or this problem. But they never actually do. They get in the office and make some changes in the beginning, changes they don't think will make a big impact positive or negative. Then, they use the rest of their job to help billionaires once again fund war and help decimate indigenous land with the help of oil companies.

Honestly, I often believe they're the same shitty people who just switch out sometimes. Democrat goes into office to bring up the hope from one group, then it's Republicans turn, and they bring up the hope of this group. They keep things heated and people fighting, and they get their votes, but at the end of the day, all they do is fund war elsewhere so billionaires can go fracking for oil. They can destroy indigenous land breaking any treaty they can. Under each of their care, more and more people are impoverished, and more people are unhoused and/or starving. They can't afford medical care or education, and it's supposedly their fault? Fuck both parties. And most the parties in between don't give af either. They'll also make false promises and then fuck people over.

It's how power works.

I'm not centrists because I think they're all shitty. When I vote, it's in hope this person will cause less damage. Not that I think they're morally good. I think once you enter politics, you slowly lose all morality. That's why you see anyone good and with good intentions leave first. They get told they're too nice and have too good of intentions and that they should leave. And it's not a suggestion, so they leave.

Unless something happens, I truly don't think we'll ever reach a good tomorrow with our current government.

Here is the easiest and most defining difference between republicans and democrats:

Republicans are greedy bastards. They want to cut social programs, obstruct healthcare reform, not put any caps on prescription drugs, and deregulation because they all own stock in healthcare, pharmaceutical companies. They want to cut taxes because they hate taxes being used for the poor. Republicans are like the French upper class pre-1789. They want everything for themselves and screw the poor for not inheriting any wealth. They LOVE guns too. They are a racist wealthy white men only club (because people of color who are republicans have major damage). Republicans don’t care about the economy as long as their dividends pay

Democrats (ideally) make social programs for the poor, want to reduce gun violence, want to relax drug laws (since drugs are a health not a moral issue ), healthcare reform, equal rights for women and people of color, a robust immigration plan (since Millennials and GenZ aren’t having babies), democrats want everyone to be successful to matter their race, gender ID, or social status. And a strong, fair economy for all. There are some bad ones but overall, they want the whole country to prosper not just wealthy white men

Republicans are the French aristocracy, and democrats are the proletariat and 2024 is 1789 and Election Day is La Guillotine.
