Me suddenly being hit with a rush of ideas for the book I'm currently writing:
Tumblr media
Me sifting through the ideas to find out which ones I can actually use without derailing the MC's character arc/digging gaping plot holes:

Yeah. So I think that you're going to inaccurately color some folks in either neighborhood or community when you just blanketly say this community felt like this and this community is on this type of time.
But at some point, just for the sake of conversation and communication and the expression of ideas, some people just have to realize, ‘that's not me they’re talking about.’
And we all have to realize that it's not every single resident of a neighborhood. It's not every single member of a community.
To me, I think that we can be sidetracked with trying to make sure that everybody, every single individual is comfortable when we're talking about very uncomfortable things that's happening between groups of folks at large.
I just hope that at least, anybody I'm talking to is mature enough, secure enough, and understanding enough to know that if I'm not talking about you, then I'm not talking about you.
Because it's so much of what we are talking about.
When we talk about communities, when we talk about white communities, when we talk about Black communities, we talk about historically known racist neighborhoods. We talk about the deep South, when we talk about conservative Republicans, when we talk about MAGA hat wearing folks, when we talk about Black nationalists, when we talk about urban violence, Black-on-Black violence, or whatever the newest phrase for it is, we know what we're talking about.
And so if we get caught up with talking about the tools and the few who don't fit that description and the exceptions, it derails the conversation.
So, yeah, I try to respect everybody and speak as humbly as I can to these points, but at some point we won't ever talk about the meat of the matter if we get just hung up on the small bones in the fatty areas.

Imagine being an abused woman and the public hijacking every hashtag in support of you to invalidate you, and make it about men.
The derailing technique as old as time. Straight out of the himpathy and misogyny/internalized misogyny handbook.
Can’t wait to delete this later because nobody cares. It makes me fucking sick.
Not to mention, so much of this relies on myths; women being privileged in court etc.

love it when an op reblogs their own post with the addition: "this post is about [character name], do not derail".
like, my sibling in christ. you released the post into the wild - there's no controlling what it evolves into. xD

Am so fucking tired of not ever being able to talk about mens violence without some turd saying “men experience domestic violence too” yah, so fucking what?
Like you start talking shit about a dv VICTIM and when you’re being told they were abused, they weren’t the abuser suddenly you have to remind everyone men also experience dv? You were actively joining in the public ritualistic humiliation of a female domestic violence victim. And the second someone calls you out you’re so full of empathy? You don’t even feel bad about saying “she wasn’t an angel” as if that justifies violence and rape. As if that makes it okay for you to talk like you’re doing. You’re no different from the abuser. Of course only for hypothetical male victims that are so scared of getting help. As if cops are good to female victims or even believes them or ever does anything in domestic abuse cases. Women barely ever try to get help either but you ignore that too cause it’s all about hypothetical men. MEN MEN MEN We all know if a victim of dv approached you for help you would side eye and ask “but what did you do to deserve it?”.

"Doomed by the narrative" is sexy and all but i think the narrative wanting to save a character who is utterly set on dooming themselves isnt as much of a thing and it's so good as a concept

I don't know what trans man need to hear this but you're allowed to be angry. It doesn't make you evil. You are allowed to experience all possible emotions without apology and still be a good man.
*this is about trans men specifically, do not derail. You are free to make your own post*

personal observations made by a new cane user:
you do not need to be in constant pain to own a cane.
folding canes have a clasp or band to keep them folded. losing the band is a pain in the ass.
you will get dirty looks
it does not matter what age you are. you will get dirty looks.
you have to hold it in the opposite hand as the disabled leg. this is fortunate, as I am right handed, so i hold it in my left hand to support my right leg.
people will try to steal your cane from you.
when standing still, I hold it in my right hand unless i need to do something right handedly. this does not work as well as i thought it would.
being visibly physically disabled is difficult. having a mobility aid will help with pain and movement, but some people don't get them because visible disability is treated with disgust.
if someone meets you for the first time, and you don't have your cane, then they will like you more, but they will not believe you are actually disabled.
if someone meets you for the first time, and you have your cane, they will not treat you the same.
the majority of other cane and mobility aid users I have met are homeless. I live close to a big city.
People do not want to see you being disabled.
you will not hear of the benefits of using a cane from anyone who does not use a cane.
no one will prepare you for the world of being visibly physically disabled. however bad you think we have it is usually not from the disability at all. I can deal with pain and I can deal with an indisposed left hand.
the hardest part of being disabled is the fact that no one will care until you make them care.
the disabled seats on trains are a suggestion
the disabled seats on buses are a suggestion.
you will have a different experience with using a cane than I have had.
your hand will become tired. you are using it as a leg.
your cane is legally a part of your body. this will not stop some people.
you are not your disability. but it will affect you.
i love you
theres always an invisible someone who has it worse. that person will not be affected or offended by your use of a cane. take the damn ibuprofen. put the folded cane in your bag. ask your friends for help. gd knows they need help sometimes too.
you will have to learn that things will be impossible to you. you may not run as fast anymore. you may not become a skater, like you always wanted to be. you may be left behind when everyone else runs ahead.
you deserve better.
your cane handle gets dirty. wash it.
some days pain is worse. some days you will feel it the moment you wake up.
no one deserves pain. the human condition is not to suffer. we deserve better. we deserve to be loved and not tolerated. we deserve to be seen better than from the corners of eyes. we deserve to be heard better than an afterthought at a meeting.
be quick to care for yourself. I love you.
