#burning dad #my dad just texted me from burning man saying that the roads in and out are closed #all events are cancelled and people are told to stay in their campsites until the playa dries out #it has been a rough first year at sleepaway camp for my dad #he lost (and then found) his phone yesterday #he wasn't allowed into the campsite early due to rains #and now this #i haven't had the heart to tell him about jimmy buffet #he isn't a parrothead but i can only assume he bears some bizarre affection for the man #i fear the news may break him #(to be clear i find this all very funny #he went to cosplay homelessness in the middle of the desert #forgetting how poorly actual homelessness worked out for his own father #let's not tempt fate here pops)

Seeking the Thrill of Living (Death Valley National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a roadside pullout along Badwater Rd with a view looking to the southwest and across the Death Valley basin to more distant ridges and snowcapped peaks of the Panamint Range. This location is in Death Valley National Park not too far from Badwater Basin the walking area. My thought on composing this image was to capture the contrast between the almost complete flatness of the basin to my front with the mountains off in the distance. I decided to have more of a leveled-on look as I angled my Nikon SLR camera to the horizon. I was though able to use some high ground that I was located on to include some nearby foreground to add an interest for this national park landscape.

The playa gives you the burn you need, not the one that you want. We're back and putting this experience into words eludes me at the moment. The only possibility is to describe one moment at a time and of course my medium would be through music. A lot of magic out there for sure. The Saturday sunrise and maiden voyage of the art car DragonFly was all the things and a high point of my experience. I've known @seanmajors for a bit of time and when he asked me to join him for the experience on the art cart he built, I couldn't say no. I left my calendar open that night, making no other plans for anything else after 9pm on Friday. This gave me the freedom and flexibility to enjoy without worrying about being to the next thing. It was a journey to be sure and all along the way I smiled to myself knowing the view from a top this beauty was going to be something special. During this an art car of some of my favs from Seattle rolled up, we gave each other dusty hugs and then they were on their way. That moment filled my heart with such joy!! To my Studio 4/4 fam on playa and off, I love you so! Also had fun hanging with you @jacquibeyer !!❤️❤️ One of many great experiences at the Burn.
