Amon The Apocalypse of Devilman Anime Music Video using the song “The Chain” covered by Three Days Grace original by Fleetwood Mac I thought it would be fun to have a go at making a music video for one of my fave Devilman OVA, Amon The Apocalypse of Devilman, and one of my new fave songs, I thought this song was very fitting for Akira/Miki/Ryo given that Ryo's lies on that broadcast really make a huge mess of things, to put it lightly! This was my first ever music video and I hope I did a good job. Oh man, making music videos is kind of hard even with the program I was using to make it easier, I have to admit I'm not used to editing so this is good practice!  XD

Made another video with the same song, and again tried to tell an alternate ending premise through just music and visuals. This also doubles as a video for my Minecraft server.

Lonestar Void Releases a Visual for “Devilman Crybaby”
Lonestar Void recently released a music video for “Devilman Crybaby feat $NOT.” The song opens with $NOT’s aggressive hook and is followed by Void’s one of two verses. The song is climbing towards 1.5 million plays on Spotify, and is the breadwinner on his new EP, “Lord.” The Cover Art for Lonestar Void’s “Lord.” You may know Lonestar Void from his song “Midnight in Moscow” which trended on…

Anime recs for The Radiant Emperor enjoyers
I was watching the new Ooku anime on Netflix some weeks ago and I thought it hit that ”court drama dealing with gender roles and making me cry” spot that He Who Drowned the World has been occupying in my heart lately (even if it engages with some of these themes very differently).
Somehow that got me thinking about other anime that might align with the vibes and themes in The Radiant Emperor book series and eventually came up with this list.
Some of those themes include gender roles, queerness, disability, politics, oppression, rebellion, revenge, impossible and messy relationships and tragedy. Darker themes like war, violence, sexual assault etc are also often present. Please lmk if you agree or disagree with these choices and feel free to add more!
Tumblr media
Dororo (2019)
Historical fantasy based on Osamu Tezuka’s manga classic from the 1960s.
An orphan who hides her gender in order to survive meets a young man who fights demons to claim back his body parts that his father traded away in a demonic pact. There’s tons of pain and tough moral questions and complicated family relationships, and the way Hyakkimaru deals with having lost and then slowly regaining parts of himself is super interesting.
24 episodes. Stream on Prime Video, Hidive
Tumblr media
The Heike Story (2022)
Retelling of the historical epic Heike monogatari through the eyes of an orphan girl who gains the ability to see supernatural things after her father’s passing. Inevitability of fate, the impermanence of all existence, praying for your loved ones’ happiness in the next life, all of these things are beautifully woven in this visually stunning story. The story also hits different when you know that Heike monogatari was traditionally performed by blind musicians and singers.
11 episodes. Stream on Cruncyroll, Apple TV
Tumblr media
Inu-oh (2022)
Historical fantasy. Two outcasts find each other and change the history with their music in this story that also pays respect to the Heike monogatari’s origin as a singing tradition. Focus on things like identity, disability, nonconformity, ghosts. Yes, the ghosts part is important. Also, the gender expressions and the bond between the two main characters is something I’ve seen a lot of queer/trans ppl relate to and Inu-oh is voiced by none other than the trans icon Avu-chan.
Movie. Stream on Hulu
Tumblr media
Ōoku: The Inner Chambers (2023)
Alternate history where most men in Japan have been wiped out by a mysterious disease. Very much a court drama centered in the Tokugawa shogun’s residence where men serve the woman shogun as concubines (and sometimes have relationships with each other). Also, one of the main characters is a monk who ends up giving up his vows! Based on Fumi Yoshinaga’s acclaimed manga that has also been adapted to various live action movies and drama series.
10 episodes. Stream on Netflix
Tumblr media
Toward the Terra (2007)
Scifi classic with two main characters who are at the opposing sides but feel inexplicably connected. There’s just so many insane relationships and emotions here, I still have not recovered from the ”I want to kill you but I will also protect you with my own life” thing…… Based on the 1970s manga by Keiko Takemiya. Not to be confused with the movie from 1980.
24 episodes. Available on DVD
Tumblr media
Devilman Crybaby (2018)
Apocalyptic fantasy with demons and stuff. Based on the classic 1970s manga by Go Nagai.
I don’t even know how to describe the story, it’s just the tragedy, the queer yearning, the ”I killed the one I loved and then it was too late”, the ”things will get bad and then they will get worse” vibe that I think is very fitting. This one has the most extreme violent and sexual content out of the series on this list.
10 episodes. Stream on Netflix
Tumblr media
Banana Fish (2018)
Gang wars, mystery drugs and complicated emotions set in New York. Based on the iconic 1980s manga by Akemi Yoshida. Deals heavily with trauma and CSA.
You guessed right, this one is also a tragedy. If you love Ouyang and/or Baoxiang, you’re probably going to love Lee Yut-Lung. That’s all I’m going to say.
24 episodes. Stream on Amazon Prime

what genres of music are the ROs and Chris into? do any of them have niche tastes? (would kara enjoy shoegaze?)
anyway writing made me think of one my favourite songs so here (the music video feels incredibly sapphic so i'd check it out)
Oh fun ask. (Just listened to shoegaze I feel like it works for Kara and Cam.) 💔 Chris - Loves classical music. Beethoven, Mozart and Bach.
Currently listening to - Moonlight Sonata
❤️ Cam - He has no real preference when it comes to music. If he had to choose it would be alt. rock. Nirvana, Linkin Park, 3 doors down. The list goes on. He has a soft spot for Arctic Monkeys.
Currently listening to - Arctic Monkeys - I wanna be yours
💙 G - K-Pop/indie rock. Big Hwasa fan (LMM) is one of their favorites. They love the band The Rose as well.
Currently listening to - The Rose - Back to me
💚 Kara - What she likes depends on her mood. If she's in a good mood not to deep in her head then she is listening to something from The Killers or Coldplay.
Currently listening to - The Killers - Shot At The Night
💛 M - Genre? Refuses to choose. They are either listening to a video game ost, or anime ost. Never fails. They tend to hyper fixate on a certain series so that dictates which one they're listening to in the moment.
Currently listening to -Konya Dake - Takkyuu to Tavito  (from Devilman Crybaby)
💜 Isaac - They like Dance/Electronic mainly. Anything they can really dance to (would happily take MC dancing.) Some bands they like are Cascada, Daft Punk, Gorillaz.
Currently listening to - Daft Punk - Get Lucky
🖤 Ardent - Metal! Is anyone surprised? Tool, Metallica, Iron Maidan, System of a Down, Ghost. Ardent loves it, he enjoys the energy, the songs. Unless he is with his niece. Then he will only listen to The Wiggles.
Currently listening to - Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot

Haha... she wants to be liked but left alone at the same time. She finds her personality absolutely unbearable, so she'll try to mold herself in any way you need her to be. She can try and play the part. She tries to act as this wild, lovable, and energetic gal that everyone loves. A manic dream pixie girl to be exact.
However... she is an anxiety-riddled nerd who is hyperactive and can't stay still. "Alice" always tries to crack jokes, sometimes at the most bad timings, to ease down the tension. She hates herself and tends to become extremely depressed when her mood gets bad enough and her social battery is drained. She can also be quite negative, judgemental and cruel in her head.
Being perceived is both terrifying and important for her.

She has a pear-shaped body, thick thighs, and a nice butt. Her body is always littered with bandaids or bandages due to her clumsiness or how often she gets into fights. She has a scar on her mouth... she'd rather not say how she got it.

Disclaimers: Sometimes I'll reblog things that have gore or extreme violence in them so if you don't like that I suggest filtering that tag or clicking on another blog. There might be some slight ecchi/suggestive content too but nothing TOO spicy. I don't follow back unless I know you or you post about things I'm interested in.

I was tagged by @baeddel and charged with the following questions:
Last song: Mephisto by Queen Bee. This is the ED for Oshi no Ko, and that is indeed the context I first encountered it. But I've kind of become obsessed with Queen Bee ever since I saw this video of Avu-chan:
youtube
There is definitely an element of "I want to learn to sing but I cannot sound like a cis women no matter what so I have to figure out some other sort of voice to aspire towards". Not that I could ever have Avu-chan's ridiculous range lol. But they are sort of the coolest person I've ever seen.
After that I learned that I'd been hearing Avu-chan a whole bunch. For example, Avu-chan voices Inu-oh! All the fantastic songs I enjoyed in that film...
youtube
And that's not even the first time Avu-chan worked with Masaaki Yuasa. You remember that amazing version of Devilman no Uta from Devilman Crybaby?
youtube
Yeah, guess who.
But that's just focusing on the anime link. Queen Bee is the shit. Like check out this duet between Avu-chan and Avu-chan:
youtube
Or King Bitch with all the martial arts. Or Inu-hime which manages to pack a whole gory jidaigeki story into a three and a half minute music video. I'm still working my way back through Queen Bee's videos.
Forgive me, this is way more than one song ^^'
Currently watching: Besides Animation Night tonight? ^^
I recently finished Tengoku Daimakyou - which was imo strong right up to the end, and there's a bunch to write about it. But this says 'currently' so...
I'm presently catching up on Oshi no Ko. (Hence the Queen Bee listening.) Which is the one where the gynecologist is reincarnated as the son of an idol alongside one of his patients; said idol gets murdered, and then as a highschool student our boy's attempting to solve her murder while getting caught up in all sorts of showbiz drama. I've written a bit about Oshi no Ko before; two eps further on, the story continues to have some delightful swerves and I'm fascinated to see where they're going with all this. I can see it steadily orbiting certain themes - falsehood, performance, self-identity and so on - but what the ultimate thrust will be, remains to be seen.
I ended up rewatching a few episodes with @footsteps-on-the-dance-floor a couple weeks ago. On the rewatch, I was struck by how, in this show about acting, just how much attention is indeed paid to the acting of the characters. Not so much flashy sakuga, just lots of carefully observed interactions that I came to appreciate a lot as I understood the characters better.
Currently reading: [whoops, forgot this one, editing it in] Ghost in the Shell for fiction. Shirow's manga is fascinating. In some ways you can see all the material that made it out into Production IG's various adaptations, but in some ways the tone is so different, way less dry, way more unabashedly nerdy, the characters much more emotional. I'm fascinated by all the little asides and margin notes by Shirow.
For non fiction, I've got this book called "Queer British Art 1861-1967" by the Tate that I'm steadily reading. It's fascinating, I didn't know shit about most of the people they write about in here.
Current obsession: What do I do that can't be characterised as an obsession really ^^'
But besides work, and writing long posts on here, and drawing pictures, I've been trying to learn music. I mentioned singing, but the other strand is trying to learn the zhonghu. So let me tell you about zhonghus.
This is a Chinese musical instrument, a close sibling of the erhu. Like a violin, it's a bowed instrument; unlike a violin, it's held upright on your lap, it has only two strings, and the bow is held in between them.
The bowstrings are very loose compared to a violin bow, and you use your fingers to press them against one or other string. There is no fingerboard, let alone frets, so pitch depends on how hard you press the strings as well as where your fingers are positioned. Not to mention a million other variables to do with your specific instrument.
The zhonghu and the erhu are almost the same instrument; the zhonghu is tuned slightly lower, similar to a viola compared to a violin. Also? The soundbox is covered by snakeskin, so if you import an erhu (or zhonghu) from China, you have to go to some effort to certify that the snake in question was from a farm and not a wild snake. And you have to be really careful that the bowstring doesn't catch on the scales.
Why am I learning the zhonghu? Well. That's a long story but the tl;dr is my friend suggested I should be a zhonghu player and I was like you know what sure. So now I have her old zhonghu.
Tumblr media
I used to play the violin, but I think the way I learned the violin left a lot to be desired in terms of actually understanding music. I could translate sheet music into finger positions, and fulfill my role in an orchestra for kids, but I lost the thread at uni, where I tried to play with the ceilidh band and found I was completely at sea in a more improvisational setting. Add like a decade of rust on top of that.
So it's safe to say that right now I'm really fucking bad at playing the zhonghu. Nevertheless, I'm trying to persevere. In the month or so since I started, with very irregular practice, I've gone from 'can only make a horrible scratching sound' to 'can play an open string' to 'never hitting a note first try' to 'can mostly hit notes until I try to move my hand', so I'm inching forwards. It's a long way until I can make the kind of beautiful music that the erhu is known for, and I don't have any belief I'll ever be notably good at it, but there's nothing to be lost in trying to learn a new thing, even if it's one that is not coming naturally to me at all. Better to struggle than to go my whole life never picking up an instrument again you know.
Tagging - uhhh let's say - @mogsk @schizsune @sisyphication @catnumbers @argyrocratie @centrally-unplanned @hamiltonianflow @sapeami-scalps-whites [if you'd like, in each case!] The questions are 'last song', 'currently watching', 'currently reading', 'current obsession', answer in as much or little detail as you like

More about me under the cut! ;P
Icarian • he/they/she (no preference) • transsexual • 21 y/o
I'm a Graphic Design Major ^_^
A running joke about me is a lot of my points of interest reflect that of a cishet boy but I promise I am normal about everything I get into. I may talk about some things more than others because I get embarrassed with what I like easily, but here's a general list!
General Movies + TV Shows
• Seinfeld
• The Birdcage
• The Yellow Submarine
• The Muppets
• The Shrek series (Unironically, whenever I talk about Shrek it is never for the meme, but for my love of the movies and characters.)
Various Adam Sandler movies + things that are so bad they're good, if that makes any sense. I love regularly watching tacky things that were poorly produced and/or written. Pretty much anything I can commentate on easily with my friends and complain about lightly LOL
Anime + Manga
• Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Parts 1 + 3 + 6 are usually my areas of focus, but I have read all of it up to 9, which I've yet to really dive into.)
• Dragon Ball (Childhood interest of mine, I haven't watched the series regularly or have drawn fanart regularly since I was 14 or so. Hilariously, I still find myself to this day getting into conversations surrounding it so I might as well include it!)
• Berserk (I LOVE PUCK ^_^)
• Devilman (Obligatory post-Berserk catch up read so I could see the elements Miura was inspired by.)
Video Games
• Pretty much most Nintendo games, I have a baseline knowledge of everything under that company's label. (Focus on Pokémon + Mario + Kid Icarus + etc. it'll be glaringly obvious what my favorites are just by checking my old smash bros ultimate tags...)
• Mega Man Classic
• Second Life + VR Chat (If you ever consider wanting to play any of these games, feel free to shoot me an ask or DM if you'd like an insider's explanation on what the scene is like on them! I can go into great detail the amount of stories I have accumulated from my excursions, all the good and the bad LMAO)
• Genshin Impact (I do not engage with the fanbase, and find a lot of the fans genuinely exhausting to be around. While it is no worse than The Legend of Zelda with its issues, the fans remarkably make it so much more agonizing to talk about.)
• Ball Gay 3
Miscellaneous
• I love the Abrahamic Faiths and sometimes post about my experiences struggling in queer spaces predominantly ran by culturally christian white atheists who choose to say all organized faith is inherently bad and perpetuate the "queer vs. religion" issue.
• I went to a Japanese immersion school from the ages 5 through 11 and have been casually keeping up with the language since!
• I love classic country and folk rock. When I say I like country, I specifically mean the genre and general scene behind country that predates the 9/11 shift in music. I also (embarrassingly) know a shit ton of Beatles trivia. John Denver is my favorite music artist.
...and much more I am probably forgetting to list out! I am critical of all my interests, so please do not be presumptuous. Ultimately, I consider a lot of "Fandom DNI" things to be hypocritical and performative in the sense that it eliminates any nuance.
Simply put, I will just block you if you are someone who refuses to have any critical thinking skills...that being said, given how tumblrinas seem to be incapable of figuring out what that means, here is a brief rundown of what I that tends to encapsulate. LMAOOOOOO
No stupid discourse No creeps No "it's just fictional!" No whatever I deem to be genuinely sickening I know "DNI" pages are performative and areas for people to flaunt their basic morality but lately I have had to block so many people I feel as though I need to put a typical warning up so. You Know. Gestures Vaguely. For Genshin Fans specifically coming to my blog know I do not put up with any ship remotely creepy. I see a good portion of the "short" character model characters as children, and genuinely cannot "unsee" it. This is not something to argue in my asks about. Just leave me alone, I do not participate in the fandom for a reason.

28. How many books have you read so far this year?

60: And Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott
36. Name a book you consider to be terribly overrated:
I've already ranted here before in the past about how much I really do not like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and think that it's a bit silly and annoying and weird that it's so often considered one of the best books ever written: (X)
BUT OTHER THAN THAT I think that the Harry Potter series is, and always has been, a little overrated. It was a lot of fun to read and definitely deserves to be considered a classic of children's lit, but it just simply wasn't THAT good, omg... I thought this back in the heyday of it as well, the way people worshiped it and acted like it was literally the only books worth ever thinking about and reading really made me cringe after a while. I was basically exactly the right age for it all when it was first coming out too, and I enjoyed the books all once whenever they first came out and the movies once whenever they first came out, and then that was basically it! Never felt the need to get involved in the fandom or buy merch or re-watch the movies or anything. I just didn't feel like it was really deep enough to be acting as obsessive about it as so many people did, really? And I already felt like I had outgrown the books a bit by the time the series was coming to an end. Anyways, there's all the more reason not to go that apeshit over it nowadays with the insane bigotry that J.K. Rowling is so fond of spouting and supporting publicly as well.
44. Do you like to listen to music when you read?
I usually put on something like a YouTube video featuring fireplace or rain ambient noises, like so:
