holmes and watson as the sun and moon respectively because holmes is a burning, eccentric force of nature who collapses like a dying star when his mind seizes him, because watson is a solid rock who provides the stone for holmes to lean against and reflects his light by documenting the cases and righting holmes' thought process and scattered bearings. holmes as the light that comes back into watson's life after he's been stripped of hope and forced to wander around london's dark streets without any friends or familiar faces to support him. watson as the calm, ever-present soldier who is capable of burning with equal intensity but is often underestimated in his power because he isnt as outwardly flashy as the sun. holmes as the sun because he does everything with passion, with an inward intensity, watson as the moon because he has the same power but with softer lights, not blinding but glowing, calming. holmes and watson as the sun and moon because they will always be said in conjugation with each other. they belong as one. holmes as the sun because he is the light and watson as the moon is his conductor of light. holmes as the burning sun and watson as the shining moon- do you. do you understand.

ok but like imagine being hua cheng. and when you were a teenager you were trapped in a cave with your god when he got hit with sex pollen and you already felt ugly and unlovable but he stabbed himself through the gut rather than touch you and you saw him shirtless and horrifyingly that’s how you found out you were gay
and then you meet him again centuries later when you’ve grown up and become comfortable in your own skin, and you think you might be in love with him except a part of you still feels terrified that he’ll look at you and find you hideous again. but you want to trust him so you show him your real face. and. turns out he finds your adult self so hot that you make him horny for the first time in his life and he keeps doing and saying absolutely deranged things because he does not know how to cope. he panics and tries to give you, a ghost, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and while you’re lying there trying not to freak out he is beside you acting out his one man humiliation-style comedy show because he has never wanted to kiss someone before let alone fuck. he agrees to get locked in a coffin together because he never even considered the possibility that he might pop a boner except he does pop a boner and now you are stuck under him while he squirms and you are trying very hard not to think about your own boner
i don’t know how to end this post i just think that’s so funny. and they live happily ever after and have lots of gay sex. hua cheng keeps winning. slay king

Wangxian is that dynamic: Rant Post
I personally think Wangxian is one of the most complete, compelling and near-perfect dynamics to ever be written. Like, think about it. All of our favourite pairings generally include one T (Thinking-type) and one F (Feeling-type), or both Feeling types as they are easier to relate to.
But then you have Wangxian - an ISTJ and an ENTP. Such... annoying personality types.
You have Lan Wangji, who's going to fight your procrastination for you. The guy who's stability personified and Mr. He Is Indeed Better, and then you have Wei Wuxian, who's going to argue his mouth off than take a hint; a little too aware of just how great he is and constantly onto the search for new angles of discovery.
Generally, these sort of personalities are put into the background while an INFP (or whatever) find love. These are the cliche best friends. But never the main leads.
But look at Wangxian!
Look at them being so smart together, sharing the same values. Look at Lan Wangji showing his anger by frosty, cutting words (just a few) or worse... utter disregard for you. The guy's going to glare at you with such frosty chill or go out of his way to ignore you. You're not going to get to him, and it's going to PISS you off.
Then there's Wei Wuxian and it's like...are you getting to him? Or, is he getting to you?? If you argue with him too much about his alleged failure and arrogance and quirks, he's gonna tap into them, and make you feel unstable. He's going to wield his flaws like a blade at you. You're going to just want to avoid him and the snark that filters in through his sunny disposition.
And... look at Wangxian taking the "scientific way" to sex.
"What am I supposed to do?" / I cannot believe I'm asking Lan Zhan for sex advice.
"Relax." / To the point answers only.
Also in the Extra, when discussing their CNC kink they go all the way into the story of how they're going to scene:
"So I'll do this and you resist and then I'll do this."
"Sounds difficult."
"Okay, let's switch positions."
Like... perfection??? Like go, find yourself a partner who's equally as weird as you and have your happy ever after with them: accomplished.
Not just that but the aftermath of the bichen incense burner:
"I have never been treated like this before."
"Mn." (fond smile)
"I'll chop you if you do that again."
"Mn."
Like... how easy is it to communicate ? Without any fears, without any remnant feelings, without guilt - how easily they understand each other.
And not Wei Wuxian showing his love by gifting Lan Wangji a numerous weird things, and constantly talking about exactly what he loves about Lan Wangji. Not Lan Wangji doing every sort of act of service for Wei Wuxian (and Wei Wuxian allowing it), and being calm but not quiet with his words.
"It is as it is" - loving Wei Wuxian is a fact for Lan Wangji, backed up by his actions.
They never go out of their way to think of certain events differently. Perhaps, that's what takes them so much time and 2 life times to get together. Because, hell, it's obvious to us. But you're telling me Lan Wangji wouldn't stand up for anyone who's in the right and framed incorrectly? He totally would. Lan Zhan is just that nice. Similarly, Wei Wuxian is also just that nice.
He took a brand for Mianmian. He couldn't remember her for a minute afterwards. He saved Su She. Twice. He has no idea who Su She is. So, yes. He did a lot of things for Lan Wangji but what is he supposed to be?
I love how their relationship is built upon a pact of no apologies and no thanks. Loving each other isn't a duty, a responsibility or a debt. It is just natural. There's nothing to be repaid. There's only things to discover together.
You don't need to thank me because thanking means you recognize my effort as helping you, but you are not required to - as it is the nature of things. I will help you. You will help me. We will never measure who helps each other more. You don't need to apologize for your actions, because I trust that you will not do wrong unto me. Never by intention.
And, let's talk about how they gravitate towards each other ?? Lan Wangji sitting in Gusu thinking about Wei Wuxian and his lotus seeds and stems theory. Wei Wuxian sitting in Lotus Pier thinking of Lan Wangji. Analyzing every word the other has said, thinking back to all that they have done for each other, lingering not on the pain they have caused each other but the happiness, and you know, that they'll be able to talk about the pain, through the pain, because they are people rooted in the present.
I imagine just how insane it would be for Wei Wuxian, the no golden core until the age of 9 to head disciple to one of the strongest cores to the reason why Yunmeng Jiang win every night hunt event at Discussion Conferences, to lock swords with Lan Wangji and feel, "Ah, this is an equal. This is a new puzzle to be solved. This is a cabbage to be pricked (canon)."
And for Lan Wangji, who's equated insolence and disobedience with poor performance to suddenly come upon someone who appears larger than life, raking up answers and top spots in tests, and duelling as an equal yet never adhering to the rules, finding loopholes and shaking up Lan Wangji's whole dimension.
Another thing I really love is how Lan Wangji isn't, like, his uncle. Or his brother. He isn't his uncle in the ways that he allows himself to break rules when they don't align with the rules he considers superior - his moral calling. His hanguang-jun-ness. He absolutely loves rules; he does; and he loves his stability but he's not afraid to embrace change if it is required.
And, Lan Zhan just isn't his brother. He doesn't like you? Trust, you're gonna know. He thinks you're stupid? It's going to be translated across. He's not going to appease you, or make his presence or his wishes lesser to comfort you. He is his own person (which is so similar to how Wei Wuxian is; like poor boy was punished all the time for being himself, at Lotus Pier by Madam Yu, and yet he never downplayed his talents. He never bowed down.)
And I think it's obvious just how well Lan Wangji knows how worthless words can be if they're not followed with actions. Similarly for Wei Wuxian, he speaks a lot. But he does do what he speak. Protect Jiang Cheng? He will. Fight for Lotus Pier? He will. Protect the Wens? He will absolutely.
Thus, you see, as a couple they will never have to face those sorts of arguments where someone seriously states how they feel about A event but behaves differently when they can do something about it. As a couple they will never have to worry about the other not being themselves. Compromising is one thing - pretense is another. Wei Wuxian compromises and doesn't try to break rules. Understands that he's going to insult Lan Wangji's position by acting out. Lan Wangji compromises and breaks some rules for him. They both compromise and take care of each other's needs and habits to cohabitate together successfully, and at the same time, there's no pretense. No lying. No manipulation. No "I'm fine when I'm not."
Think of them going to night hunts together, with Wei Wuxian's easy brilliance and Lan Wangji's easy dependency. Like that guy, is strong and capable enough to protect Wei Ying. He knows that. Wei Ying knows that. The cultivation world knows that.
Think of how both of them are such healthy adults and loving to children. Lan Wangji isn't a cold dad and Wei Wuxian isn't an irresponsible one. They're both so very capable.
So, my point is - Wangxian is perfect. I will die on this ship.

So, the drowning scene of tggth pt2...
Tumblr media
I'm about to be so annoying about this whole sequence.
Tumblr media
Here, when everyone starts kicking each other, Mac doesn't let go of Dennis and wraps his leg around him before their hands separate.
Tumblr media
When Mac starts falling backwards, he tries to grab Dennis' arm so stabilize himself. We can see that Dennis doesn't push him off, despite the fact that he makes it harder to catch Dee, who already has the upper hand.
Tumblr media
While Charlie is using Mac's head to resurface, Dennis watches Dee and Frank swim away and then quickly turns to the side and tries to grab Mac by his hand, which he doesn't (?) let him do.
Tumblr media
Then we get this cursed shot of Dennis being basically glued to Mac's side, where Mac is swimming with his single free arm and isn't even trying to shake him off. Later we see what exactly clicked in Dennis' mind in the previous scene, where he came up with the idea of using Mac for the impact.
Tumblr media
Bonus scene with him getting punched seconds after betrayal.

Pls start on the back touching🤭🤭🤭
Okay so @teruel-a-witch already got into it w/ this post but!!! I still have thoughts.
Mostly centering around how that is not how you touch your buddy. That is not two bros sitting in a hot tub five feet apart. There is nothing hashtagnohomo about it. This is straight up Steve being a little possessive, a little romantic, and just wanting to touch.
Moreover, Danny lets him. It's something Steve does habitually, and Danny lets him. Honestly Danny's probably used to it. He goes first through the door, and Steve touches his back. It's just a thing they do. Danny knows Steve's in a mood/cranky about something when Steve doesn't guide him places with a hand on his back.
They're just so fucking married, it drives me crazy.

Okay so I was listening to Hurts Like Heaven by Coldplay, and I just realized how well the lyrics fit Miles.
Tumblr media
In ITSV, Miles struggles with feeling like he can't fill Peter Parker's shoes as Spiderman. And of course, he expresses himself through his art and graffiti.
Tumblr media
Again, thinking about his love of art and drawing. And in ATSV, he's dealing with a society that's telling him how to live his life and saying that he can't change what happens. With canon events, it's like his life has already been determined for him and he can't do anything about it.
Tumblr media
The rules of the spider society have been keeping him apart from his friends, and now they want to tear him apart from his family too. But he's not going to let go of his morals, he's not going to let them determine his life.
Also thought I should include these lines but I feel like they're more from Gwen's POV:
Tumblr media
At the end of ATSV, she gathers together all their friends so they can go against the lies/half-truths of the spider society.

I have a followup to this QiJiu post about Yue Qingyuan's feelings for Shen Jiu, digging into SJ's side of the relationship, but tbh, I feel like SJ's taste in men can be best summed up with:
Tumblr media
SJ would hoard every issue where YQY features on the cover. The one with YQY holding a kitten while wearing a chunky knit sweater is laminated.

I can’t believe I’m out here analyzing a picture of quigleys midsection debating myself on the effectiveness of her harness and carabiners. Like if those are two carabiners that she has attached to her harness, cool! Why are they attached to another carabiner? You should not do that. Why, when she goes up, does it not pull the larger carabiner? The carabiner would be pulled and then you’d have the knot on one end and the two on her harness on the other end (which, again, don’t hook carabiners on carabiners and then put body weight on that it’s just bad practice)
Tumblr media
Also is her harness backwards?? Those small straps, at least for regular climbing harnesses, are usually on the back. Also the waist strap and the leg straps are way too thin to be comfortable, especially for a gal who sits in a tree all day. This is what my climbing harness looks like, for reference. Note the thicker bands for waist and legs and the small straps that go on the back. Also note the tie in point in front, which is just… nonexistent on Quigley’s. Does her harness have built in carabiners? Would she have to replace the harness around the carabiners (since carabiners will last longer than a harness)?
Tumblr media
The knot looks like it could be a fisherman’s loop which I am personally unfamiliar with in climbing but yknow girls gotta do what a girls gotta do I guess
Conclusion: quigley what the fuck

Consider:
1) one needs to see Aizen’s Kyoka Suigetsu’s shikai in order to be affected by the illusions
2) Aizen used Kyoka Suigetsu to publically fake his dead body in the soul society arc
3) in that same arc, we are told that captains and lieutenants are not supposed to carry their zanpakuto around in peace times, and therefore
4) it is unlikely that literally every shinigami has seen Aizen’s shikai, despite his attempts to impress them early at the academy
In conclusion, there is statistically at least one low level new shinigami graduate who overslept on the day of Aizen’s practical demonstration lesson and therefore did not see Aizen’s body pinned to the wall, just all the captains and lieutenants and the rest of the Gotei 13 freaking out over nothing, and had to emperor’s new clothes his way through the rest of the arc.

I think one of the saddest aspects of mdzs is watching every character from the main generation become isolated, and each of them making the worst and most destructive choices in that isolation.
Cloud recesses arc makes me feel sick to my stomach just with how Together everyone is. They all go from acting like classmates, and making friends like regular teenagers, to being alone, never reaching out. All of them lash out in their loneliness, some at themselves and some at others. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are the only ones who break out of that by the end, Jiang Cheng, Nie Huaisang, Wen Ning, and Jin Zixuan are seperate forever and irreperrably.
(its not that i think they were all besties, obviously they were not. Just kind of guts me when i remember the highs and lows of high school cultivation.)

The main Kuroba household is described as looking as though it came straight out of a yakuza drama, and I find it kind of interesting, them (or at least their house) being compared to the yakuza.
The Kuroba family owns a lot of land in/around Monshiro (though most if not all of it farmland considering how much of his extended family in the area seem to be farmers), and they’re probably the richest/most powerful family in this part of Fukui. Yuni’s even called ボン or 坊ちゃん (“bon” and “bocchan,” two ways of addressing the young heir of a rich family, translatable to “young master”) by some people.
Not that Yuni acts like it though lmao it’s easy to forget he’s not just some guy. At least until the two of you spontaneously decide to catch a train to Tōkyō so he goes and gets (expensive!) tickets for free from his family member who works at the train station, or you wanted a strawberry tart but the café doesn’t have any left in the showcase so he goes and talks to the chef who’s his relative and gets you a fresh slice with a big helping of extra strawberries because they’re your favorite (even though you're the now-ex-captain of his rival school and he barely knows you? Yuni). The Kuroba family is big, so he’s got relatives all over Fukui, and even though he usually doesn’t act like an heir, he is definitely used to asking for and getting things (even getting things he didn’t want/ask for) from his family. I would not be surprised if he has family outside of Fukui too and he still gets spoiled in college all the way out in Kantō.
Yorimichi’s the only one who could be considered “yakuza-like” though, being a delinquent and even being compared to an outlaw by Chika, but he almost got disowned for it in the past, and at the end of book 1, he’s decided to clean up and study to become a teacher.
So the yakuza comparison isn’t exactly apt, but it also sort of is.

in the ShB role quests, we watch each of Ardbert's party members make some sort of personal sacrifice, forced to discard their own goals, for the sake of the greater good. The moment they make that choice is when a Crystal of Light appears, officially marking them as Warriors of Light in recognition of their heroism and sacrifice. "By your sacrifice, a warrior made.", as the Shadowkeeper says in battle.
The same lore doesn't hold true for the WoL, back when they were in crystal-collecting mode in ARR and HW, the crystals just appear after major victories without the need for some sort of momentous sacrifice, and seem to serve mostly as a marker of how much story progress you've made/need to make to the end of the expac.
But if you think about it not lore-wise, but symbolically -
With each victory over a Primal, you're ensuring that you'll be the person who'll be called upon for help when next a Primal appears. You're cementing your own role as hero each time.
And each time, you are making personal sacrifices.
You might not even realize it until much later, what you have offered up, bit by bit - your freedom, your peace of mind, your own goals and desires, for the sake of the greater good of the star.
"By your sacrifice, a warrior made."

I saw a few of those "bg3 characters driving a car" headcanons and decided to do one myself for fun.
Lae'zel: She learned how to drive on the opposite side of the road from everyone else and her instincts are all wrong for her current location, but back home she's an excellent driver with a spotless driving record. She actually follows the service schedule in the car manual. She gets incensed at people who don't maintain their vehicle properly or who disobey road rules. Her car is immaculately clean. She would love to speed a motorcycle down one of those desert highways with no speed limit, but she's never gotten the opportunity and knows it's too reckless besides. But she wants to.
Karlach: She's had a motorcycle for ages and is a skilled if aggressive driver. However, she only recently learned how to drive a car. She is very enthusiastic about it and always volunteers to drive even though she's not very good yet. She's one of those people that do driving "pranks" like swerving back and forth to make people shriek/laugh, or doing "3, 2, 1 BLASTOFF" and gunning it. Could easily be provoked into an impromptu street race. Drives way too far on empty or with the check engine light on.
Shadowheart: Drives stick so that no one else can drive her car. It's a beat up old station wagon with a busted tail light and looks like shit on the outside, but inside she turned it into a goth mobile with like black velvet seat covers and stuff. She named the car but she won't tell you what. She has an air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror that smells like night orchids. She's a perfectly good boring driver with nothing to note about it UNTIL one day a cop tries to pull her over for her busted tail light and she hits the gas and pulls out all these street racing moves that you had no idea she was capable of and shakes the cop. She'll let you pick the music but if she doesn't like it her silent disapproval is so withering that you voluntarily change it to something she does like.
Astarion: Never got a driver's license and isn't about to get one now. Passenger princess who likes to control the radio but his taste in music sucks. He makes funny mean comments about other drivers and pedestrians. He'll complain if you ask him to fill the gas tank but he'll do it; you're paying for it, though. Actually pretty fun to go on a road trip with because he doesn't care about stuff like "making good time" and he's up for stopping anywhere that looks like it might be entertaining.
Gale: Never got a driver's license because he was always too busy with his studies to care and his mom drove him around and/or did all his errands for him anyway. He's real good at maps though and likes to be helpful by being the navigator. He's the smartest man in the world but he's completely stymied by a gas pump; you're better off pumping the gas yourself and sending him into the gas station for snacks. He always manages to conjure a full meal out of convenience food, somehow, and he's really good at feeding you while you drive.
Wyll: He saved up and bought his own fixer-upper car after getting kicked out of the house as a teenager. Good driver in general. People always think he would make a good designated driver, but actually he likes drinking socially and will politely decline requests to be the DD unless there's no one else available. Sometimes when he's having a bad day he blasts music really loud and finds a deserted area to just fuckin tear ass down as fast as he can go (he'll only do this alone and doesn't tell anyone about it). Never lets you pay for gas even if you offer. Will pick up hitchhikers.
Halsin: Has been driving the same car since 1973. Drives that specific car really well. If you gave him a modern car he would have no idea what anything on the dashboard does. Honestly, he prefers to walk or bike anyway.
Jaheira: Has a fuck-off huge SUV full of empty cans and wrappers from her kids. Absolute maniac of a driver who tailgates and speeds with no regard for road signs or lane markings. She is going to GET where she is GOING and gods help you if you get in the way.
Minsc: Failed the driving test three times and just gets rides from Jaheira. This does not bother him in the slightest. He tells you that Boo can drive vehicles you've never even heard of.
Minthara: Has run someone over on purpose.

I think it’s fascinating that the original horror of dracula is kinda lost on us because our cultural well has been poisoned. I don’t know any 6-year olds who can’t tell you vampires are EVIL or are unfamiliar with the name dracula.  Reading the first chapter and seeing Johnathan, our beloved, think about asking his new friend COUNT DRACULA for help is comedic! Of course he’s walking into danger. We’re genre aware.
However, also while doing dracula daily, there’s a new kind of horror. Both the prolonged no knowing when the next entry will drop but the sadness and horror of having to sit with the characters and wanting so desperately to give our heroes a metaphorical rosaries to protect them. We know this is a sinking ship full of vampires, we know how dangerous the situation is, how woefully unprepared everyone else is.
Which brings me back to how the dynamic has shifted, and I think unexpectedly so. Originally, dracula’s horror comes from the audience being basically London. He is scary because it’s unnerving to discover what new and terrible calamity is coming. What new powers and murderous feeding will come next? Who exactly are we locked in this room with? Will we make it out alive? But now, the horror stems from the audience being the Transylvanians, desperately longing to catch Jonathan before he gets to the carriage, begging him to turn back now. We are condemned to watch the ship as everyone gets picked off one by one. It’s a different but equally visceral kind of horrorshow.

Hi! love your writing so much! I was just curious, what made you decide to have Stef be John instead of Steve?
Thanks!
I've had a few people ask me about this, which kinda surprised me. Like I made Danny's deadname Josephine, which is completely different from his actual name. Of course I was gonna do the same w/ Stef.
I'd say right off the jump, the reason I did that for both of them, is because I'm not a fan of the whole "trans person just uses a masculine/feminine version of their birth name" trend in media. Like yeah sure people do that (myself included) but it's not really all that common. I'm also pretty sure it's not the norm. Trans people choose their names for all kinds of reasons, and what their deadname is often has little/nothing to do with it.
Since I made her and Danny piece of shit millennials, Steve McGarrett would actually more likely be her great-grand father. She did still name herself after him in a way, maybe as a nod to her family history, also maybe she just really vibed with it. I do also think she's Stef, not Stefanie. Like over the years it became less of a nickname, and more of a Name Name for her.
So anyways, I already came into this knowing that Stef wasn't going to be Steve. From there the obvious choice was to make her a Jr. It seemed like someone John Sr. would do, canon has established that the McGarretts like naming people after family members. They've got a family legacy of naval service, why not extend that to a family legacy to carrying a name? Maybe he himself was also a Jr. Maybe she was born John McGarrett III.
Also it adds another layer to her own daddy issues and her relationship with being a trans woman, which I think is interesting from a narrative perspective. Stef has a Complicated Relationship with her father. He sent her and Mary away, he was never particularly demonstrative, etc etc. Joining the navy wasn't really a matter of choice, she was always going to do it, because that's what McGarrett Men Do.
So you've got her complicated relationship w/ masculinity and femininity and being in the closet as a fucking Navy SEAL.
And then you add the fact that she believes that her dad was murdered technically because of her work as a SEAL.
And now he's dead, and all of these unresolved issues are just left hanging. In canon John's ghost follows Steve in every aspect of his life, of course it does the same for Stef.
She's her father's son.

Narrative/Mythic
No matter what the tales may be named the Rise of the Old and New Gods, were not at different times, no they occured side by side. At the time the Old Gods were known as wizards and knights, names remnants of a time even more ancient than the Ether. The Old at first were humans who could make technology sing their names and rose with Cyberspace learning to bend it to their will. This was at a time where mortals did not know yet of its importance. Even the Gods, Old and New, might not yet have known of its power, its potential, the dynasties it could crumble and the kingdoms it could create, but soon…
Then the New Gods powers were lacking, their numbers few, their scope small, and abilities weak. They were mere ideas at the time, and had not yet risen. They were unknown to the likes of you and me. For who looks in the shadows, in the foundation of a building they do not foresee becoming an empire. Who looks at the details of that which they do not know nor believe exists. We know better now and try our best to look at the legends we hadn't seen.
