La exitosa, aclamada y galardonada serie de FX, “El Oso” (The Bear), ha sido renovada para una tercera entrega. Las dos temporadas pasadas se encuentran disponibles exclusivamente en Star+.

Actualmente, la primera temporada de la serie está nominada a 13 premios Emmy, incluidos mejor serie de comedia y mejor actuación para Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Jon Bernthal y Oliver Platt, junto con nominaciones al mejor guion, dirección, casting, diseño de producción, edición de imágenes, edición de sonido y mezcla de sonido.

La serie también recibió numerosos premios, entre ellos, el reconocimiento de AFI TV a programa del año, los premios WGA, PGA, Film Independent Spirit, American Cinema Editors y ACE Eddie. La segunda temporada cuenta cómo Carmy Berzatto, Sydney Adamu y Richie Jerimovich trabajaron para llevar su tienda de sándwiches a otro nivel. Durante la remodelación, cada uno de ellos atravesó un proceso de transformación personal en los que se vieron obligados a enfrentar sus respectivos pasados y decidir quiénes querían ser en el futuro. Sin embargo, resultó que la única cosa más difícil que administrar un restaurante era abrir uno nuevo. El equipo tuvo que atravesar la locura de la burocracia de permisos y contratistas, y, al mismo tiempo, la belleza y la agonía creativa de idear un menú. La transición trajo también un nuevo enfoque en la hospitalidad hacia los clientes. A medida que todo el personal se vio obligado a relacionarse de manera diferente, ampliando los horizontes de sus habilidades y relaciones, también aprendieron lo que significa estar al servicio, tanto de los comensales como entre sí.

“El Oso” fue creada por Christopher Storer, quien también se desempeña como productor ejecutivo junto a Joanna Calo, Hiro Murai de Super Frog, Josh Senior y Matty Matheson, con Tyson Bidner como productor. La serie es una producción de FX Productions.

Reflections on the Bear

Michael Baumann ruminates on the Jorge Alfaro NRI:

When I first came to work at FanGraphs, I promised you, the readers, that I would bring you the best empirically based stories I could tell. I’m going to break that promise now. To hell with empirics; Alfaro is best enjoyed through highlights.

Alfaro will turn 30 this coming June, which is fitting. He’s one of those players who seems like he’s perpetually 23 years old, but he’s been around so long he has to be 37 by now. Take the average of those two numbers, and there you go. Over at Baseball Prospectus, Alfaro has taken on mythological status as the first seven-time top 101 prospect, and it’s easy to see why. Grading on tools, he has plus-plus power and a plus-plus throwing arm. He also has one of baseball’s best nicknames — El Oso — not just because all nicknames sound cooler in Spanish than in English, but also because “The Bear” is so evocative of a large, hirsute man who looks capable of superhuman feats of strength, and then performs superhuman feats of strength on a baseball diamond. Also, we think of bears as being large and powerful but forget that an adult grizzly bear can run at speeds of up to 35 mph. Alfaro, despite being a catcher who looks like he could squat a city bus, ranked in the 85th percentile for sprint speed last season.

I keep grabbing him in fantasy at some particularly speculative point, to no particular end. It's not even "perpetually 23 years old," it's that he has felt like a prospect longer than maybe anyone I can think of. I still remember Jason Parks talking about "The Legend" during the Up and In era. Not even at the end of the run, but back in the beginning, back in 2010. At some point, you become what you are, but Alfaro is the closest we get to eternal youth in baseball.
