replaceable
Summary:
You were Elliot’s best friend. You had known him for a couple years now and you helped out whenever everything went haywire. That’s how you met Diego. And in just a couple days time, you were in love with him. But he loved Lila. And that’s how it remained.
Notes:
Okay, so this somewhat follows the show. If you haven’t seen the show, this could definitely be a spoiler for you. Major character death. Major character injury. Unrequited feelings, as in, this ends on a loveless note haha. Uhhh, yeah, this is not a good thing to read if you’re in a fluffy mood. Remember that if you click on the continue reading tab. this was gonna start out as a happy one-shot but then it turned into whatever the hell this is
Lila made your blood boil. There was something about her that just made you want to send her into the next century (knocking her out, of course). But Diego was too head-over-heels to make any kind of judgement against Lila.
This broke your heart. But you also wanted him to be happy. And although all of this nonsense was going on, it still pissed you off to no end to know that Lila had something else hidden up her sleeve. You just couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
You gave a small smile to Elliot, who nodded your way. You had been his neighbor for many years—when everything started happening, you came to him, confused, and rather scared. Since then, the two of you had been close friends. And now, you were in the middle of whatever the hell this was.
Five sat down in front of you, a groan escaping him. He picked up his mug filled with hot coffee and closed his eyes, leaning against the chair he sat on. He noticed your blank expression and he rose an eyebrow.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
You frowned and looked away from him. “Nothing—”
“Is it Diego again?”
“How did you—”
“You were practically drooling over him at dinner,” he snickered. “You’re not as subtle as you think you are.”
You rolled your eyes and stared down into your own mug. It wasn’t like it was news. Ever since Diego had came to Elliot’s, your favoritism towards him became apparent. And it had only been a couple days. You knew you liked him. But you also knew that it wasn’t fair to him for you to tell him this, as he had Lila. Reminding yourself that fact was also hard, but you did it. Many times a day.
Five snapped his fingers in front of you to get your attention. As soon as you laid your eyes on him, he sighed. “I don’t like her, either, you know. She’s a lying bitch, for all I care.”
At least someone agreed with you.

Not many days had passed before you found yourself staring down the barrel of a gun, held by a huge blond man. He motioned to the chair behind you and you held your hands up in defense, slowly backing into the seat. While he kept you there, you heard Elliot scream from just upstairs. Your heart pounded in your ears and you squeezed your eyes shut, trembling. It was only a matter of minutes before another blond came down the stairs with a bucket of what had to of been Elliot’s blood. Yours ran cold as you stared the man down, trembling as you watched them write out the words ‘Öga for Öga’ on the floor in front of you.
The one who pointed a gun at you looked at the other and seemed to ask with his eyes, What the hell do we do with her?
“She’ll be sending a message,” the blond darkly said, walking over. He took your throat in his hands and pressed you roughly against your seat. “Tell them they took one of ours, so we took one of them. If you think this is over,” he grabbed a dagger, hovering it over your thigh. “You are wrong.” Suddenly, he pushed the dagger into your leg, pulling a scream out of your already tense body. Tears pooled into your eyes and you didn’t bother trying to prevent them from falling.
Your ragged breaths ran through your body as the men left.
Taking ahold of the dagger, you slowly pulled it out, blood gushing from the open wound. But you forced yourself to stand, despite the pain that ran through you. You slowly climbed up the stairs, knowing you were nowhere near as bad as Elliot would be.
“Elliot?” you called out through your tears, not noticing the trail of blood you had behind you.
You pushed open the door, your heart dropping to your stomach when you laid eyes on your best friend. “Oh, no,” you breathed out. You rushed over to him, biting back a sob. “Elliot,” you cupped his lifeless face in your hands, the sobs that escaped you no longer as quiet as you would have liked them to be. They took him from you.
You collapsed to your knees, crying into your hands.

Minutes passed into just a few hours before anyone came back.
Diego and Luther.
You could make out their voices from anywhere.
You shakily pull yourself to your feet, calling out Diego’s name through your weak, scratchy voice.
Diego cast just a momentary glance to Luther before he noticed the blood coating the floor and the words written on the tile. His heart dropped.
He wasted no time in running up the stairs, his eyes growing wide when he saw you standing there, beside of Elliot, bloody and still crying.
“[Your name],” he said, coming over to your side. “What... what the hell—“
“They killed him. You left us here, alone, and they killed him—“
Diego helped you over to a chair, frowning deeply.
“You just had to go wherever Lila wanted to, didn’t you? They came in and just—I couldn’t even stop it, Diego, they would have killed me!”
“Hey, hey, hey,” Diego said, cupping your cheeks, trying to comfort you. “It’s okay. Lila has nothing—“
“Lila has everything to do with this and you’re just blind! Who else would know that Elliot knew everything you guys were up to?” you cried, pushing him away. “God, I wish they would have killed me with him—“
“[Your name], don’t say that—“
“Maybe you should go take care of Elliot,” you said, wiping your tears away. “I’ll be fine alone. It—“
“—[Your name], you are not going to be okay alone. Stop it,” Diego frowned. He looked towards your leg, with an unreadable expression. “You’re hurt.”
“No shit,” you breathed out, squeezing your eyes shut. You knew you were most likely going to pass out because of blood loss. One thing you were uncertain of though is if you still felt the same way you did for Diego. You had wanted to go with him, to wherever the hell he needed to go. But no. You had to stay here with Elliot.
You peeled your eyes open to look at the man in front of you. “Can I be alone?”
“[Your name]...”
“Please?”
He frowned deeply and stood back up, going over to his brother. Luther was by a phone book, trying to figure out who Ölga Foröga was. He joined him in his hunt.
But you were left alone, staring towards your best friend. If they hadn’t of come, none of this would have happened. Was this all their fault?
A million thoughts ran through your head, but you couldn’t find the answer that you were searching for. All you knew was Elliot was dead and Diego still didn’t believe that Lila was all that bad.
The pit in your stomach had never felt deeper.
If only life had taken a different turn for you. You could have moved to New York, like you always wanted to, instead of remaining in Dallas to be near your family. Everything that went wrong, went wrong. And just earlier, you were staring down the barrel of a gun, wondering if Diego would come in and rescue you. But Diego never came. He never came like he would have for Lila. And you were going to have to live with that.
