If you’re reading this I beg you must listen to “ Dream Traveler Tune ( Klonoa 2 Mix) “ by PengoSolvent. It’s probably why this one is so out there. Anyway, the Dimensional Scream cutscenes are so cool to me. PLUS! This lets me drop more lore.
So I know that *that* scene in goncharov did stuff to a lot of people but I'm still surprised Scorsese had the balls to put that explicit of a gay scene despite the climate at the time. Surprised there wasn't more backlash
Renfield anniversary week, prompt 3: favourite scene
I absolutely LOVE this scene. Both as a piece of cinematography (the height difference as framing! The way he gets touchier and touchier and closer and closer as he reels her in!) and as character work- this is one of the scariest Dracula scenes for me, and gives us a lot of good Rebecca stuff, too.
Before this point, we've seen a lot of Dracula at his weakest, or at his most animalistic and violent, or playing off of Renfield and his years of subjugation. We see him with the Lobos, and that's cool too- but he's fascinating with Rebecca.
This is the first time they've actually been in the same room, and yet he launches immediately into this... seduction, finding every crack in her armoyur and digging his fingers in. And we get some BANGER lines out of it, too.
For half a millennium, I have seen only weakness in the hearts of men... and then I looked into yours.
Renfield used only the smallest taste of my power to do what he thought was good. Imagine what I could do, Rebecca, with you by my side. We could bring the justice you seek to those who've escaped it for too long.
He's appealing to her ego and thirst for revenge, trying to win her over by highlighting her strength rather than weakness. And that's what makes it such effective manipulation, and so chilling- he's RIGHT about her.
Rebecca is what he says she is- a stubborn tangle of determination and grief and red-hot anger, champing at the bit for the chance to give the world what it deserves. Had she been just a little bit more desperate, a little less invested in the city as a whole, had a smidge less of the very bitterness and backbone he wants her for- she'd have been his for certain. And that's terrifying.
I also love the direction (staging? blocking? I don't know the proper term) of this confrontation. Rebecca goes from backing away in terror to being all but embraced- Dracula gets into her personal space as he gets into her head.
The proximity also emphasises how much she (and any human, really) is on the back foot here. Compared to Dracula she's tiny, and the camera plays into that. We get the classic low angle/high angle film language describing power, but also a lot of close shots that emphasise the physicality- look how teeny her hand looks in his!
All of this adds up to a huge moment of triumph when she flips that switch. It's a little easier on the rewatch to tell that she hasn't bought in- Rebecca's a lot of things, but she's not a good liar- but the tension holds so well regardless that you almost forget even then. It's amazing.
“Did you see that dress?”
“I saw the dress.”
“Did you like it?”
He didn’t answer. I took that as a yes.
“Am I going to endanger my reputation if I wear it to the dance?”
When he spoke, I could barely hear him. “You’ll endanger the school.”
I smiled and fell asleep.
When I woke up, my head rested against his shoulder. That long coat of his—the duster—covered me like a blanket.
Rose × Dimitri; Vampire Academy- Seventeen (Richelle Mead)
“Mommy and Daddy told me to go away. So, here I am in the old bone orchards. Nobody understands me. Nobody cares. Nobody understands but Chantal. Chantal comes along, shows me, she's my soul sister. Me and her are gothic heroines, secret brides to the faceless, slaves of the nameless night of the castle of dread desire.”
"If you could turn back time would you kill me and get it over with?"
"Give me countless changes to turn back time, my decision would remain the same. We can't kill each other, Black. Our paths may have taken a different turn but our intentions are just the same"
One Year of Not Me-Day 4-Favourite Scene
I may not be an artist but I am able to spot homoeroticism from a mile away and boy am i seeing!
This moment right here will forever be one of my favourite scenes in any show I've ever watched. Been crying and screaming over it for weeks the first time I've seen it😂
