helios 4
A brief summary of Helios from my prior birth stories:
Helios Birth Center is a fictional birth center on the moon set thousands of years in the future. Mothers are recruited at 18 and are impregnated. Pregnancy lasts 12-13 months. Mothers are cared for at the massive facility and are given absolute luxury to live in and birth in. Mothers typically give birth 3 times during their recruitment with the birth center. The Central Command is the unit that cares for mothers and makes sure all is well (essentially a birth police force.) Mothers can be with each other during birth, but are not allowed to assist each other in any way besides moral support. Birthing babies is much more difficult. Due to longer gestation times babies range from 18-22 lbs at the time of birth. Birthing can take anywhere from 5 days to two weeks to push a baby out especially with first time mothers. Crowning can take many hours and babies can be partially born (Head born but no shoulders) for many hours, even days. Breech births are possible and quite common at the facility. The facility has 39 huge garden facilities and 15 birth pools for mothers to birth in. These gardens are equipped with birth stations that include birth stools, small beds, a squat bar, a mirror, and lubricant to help babies slide out. The floor of the facility is a soft self cleaning membrane so mothers can essentially birth anywhere in the entire facility. Our main character is Kara, she is a newcomer to the Birth center and currently pregnant with a baby girl. Angel is her close friend and just recently gave birth to her first baby (the last birth story I wrote before deleting my old account.) So now that you're caught up, let's pick up where I left off.
Kara was ever nearing her first birth. She had recently attended Angels birth and was amazed by Angels strength and ability to birth her first baby. Since Angels birth Kara continued to help out around the facility and learn as much as she could about birth. Kara was now in her 10th month of pregnancy. Her small 19 year old frame now was carrying a large belly with a 15 pound baby girl inside. She would be 18-20 pounds by the time Kara was ready to push her out.
On this day Kara was walking about the facility in garden 10, known as the beach garden. She was enjoying the sand on her bare feet below. Kara rubber her large belly as she walked along, thinking about her soon coming birth. She wondered how long it would take and how hard it would be to push her first baby out. She loved being pregnant, but birth was yet to be learned.
Kara continued to walk in the sand toward the exit of the garden, as she was about to exit she heard a voice.
“Hey, over here.” The voice said.
Kara looked over to see a girl hidden behind a palm tree. She noticed the girl was heavily pregnant and slightly bending at the knees almost like she was trying to push. Kara walked over.
“Oh thank god you're here.” The girl said. “I’ve been here for 14 hours now trying to push this baby out!”
“How long have you been laboring?” Kara asked.
“Labor started 8 days ago and I have been pushing for two days now, he just won’t come out of me, I’ve seen a part of him in my opening twice, but he keeps going back in.” The girl said.
“Who are you?” Kara asked.
“Sorry, I am Maria by the way.” The girl said.
“Well its great to meet you Maria, I’m Kara.” Kara said. “Sounds like you are having quite the struggle, is this your first baby?” Kara asked.
“Yes this is my first baby, He is estimated to me 21 pounds.” Maria said.
“Woah! That’s huge for baby number one!” Kara replied.
“I know, too huge if you ask me.” Maria said with a hint of doubt.
“I mean I can’t “Help” you technically, but I will do what I can to support you.” Kara said.
“Oh thank you so much, I just can’t keep going alone, I need support.” Maria said.
“Lets see where you're at in the process, Let’s go to that nearby birth station so we can use the mirror and squat bar.’ Kara said.
The girls made their way over to the station. It was in a private little cove surrounded by large palm trees. The ideal place to give birth really.
“Ok Maria, squat down on that birth stool and when you have a contraction, push hard.” Kara said.
“Ok let me get into position here…. I can’t feel a contraction yet.” Maria said.
“Let it come when it does, no rush.” Kara said.
Maria grabbed on to the squat bar and kneeled down, She rocked her hips around as if to aid in getting baby to move down in her birth canal. She continued to wiggle around a bit until a contraction hit.
“Ok here it comes!” Maria said.
“Ok girl, push hard, Make that baby move!” Kara said.
“Mmmmm ahhhhhh ouuuuu aaaahhhhhhh…….” Maria grunted and strained to push.
In her opening below Kara couldn’t see much happening, just tiny little bulges as she pushed. Maria continued to try pushes but nothing appeared in her opening.
“Hmmmm, not seeing baby at all.” Kara said.
“Ugggghh!! I just want him out!” Maria said. “That little bun is stuck in my belly!”
“He will come, it will just take time, he’s a big baby, and you're a tiny girl!” Kara said.
Maria had another contraction.
“Ok, big push!” Kara said.
Maria pushed hard, she was straining as hard as her little muscles could handle, her face tensed, and as she pushed her little belly button protruded outward. Maria continued to try along with the contraction, but nothing happened.
“Should I just call central command?” Maria asked. “I can’t get him out.”
“No, don’t bother, unless you have been stuck pushing for at least 3 days they won’t assist.” Kara said. “Its your first baby, it’s going to take time.”
“Well ok, ill keep trying.” Maria said.
Maria worked through a few more contractions. Her baby just wasn’t making an appearance.
“You said a part of him had come out earlier?” Kara asked.
“Yeah, I think so.” Maria said. “Only briefly, then he slipped back in.”
“Did you see what part of him it was?” Kara asked.
“No I didn’t get a chance to feel or really see it, It slipped in so fast.” Maria replied.
“Ok, I am going to help you a bit, but you can’t tell or ever mention this to anyone ok?” Kara said.
“Ok I won’t say.” Maria said.
Kara reached up with both hands and pulled at Maria’s opening, trying to open it a bit farther to see inside.
“Ok girl, push hard!” Kara said.
Maria pushed as hard as she could, Kara pulled at her opening a bit more to try and see if she could see or feel baby. Maria’s next push brought answers.
“Ok girl, I see your baby.” Kara said.
“Oh good, Thats great Maira said.”
“Well yes its good, but for one he’s wayyyy in there and for two he’s breech.” Kara said.
“Wait so I’m giving birth to a boy backwards?” Maria asked.
“Well essentially yes, his little feet are coming first, hence why you are struggling to get him out of your belly.”
“Oh well that’s neat… I guess.” Maria said.
“As for now though your still a very pregnant girl!” Kara said. “Going to take some time to get that little bun out of that belly!”
Kara decided to stay and support, she really didn’t have much else to do anyway. Maria continued pushing for another two hours until finally some progress was really bing made.
Maria went in for another push, she gave it her all and made some tiny wiggles trying to entice the baby out of her belly. She gave another push and finally a sign of baby made an appearance. Maria her her push as Kara saw a tiny little baby toe sticking out of her opening. As Maria stopped pushing the toe slipped back inside.
“Good girl! Kara said. “He’s coming out slowly!”
Just was Maria was about to make another push, the girls heard another voice.
“Can I Join you girls, I could use the support.” The girl said.
“Sure Maria said, I can use all the support I can get!”
The girl walked over and introduced herself.
“Hi, I’m Bailey, Im birthing my first baby, girl 19 pounds.”
“Please join us!” Kara said.
As Bailey took a spot on the birth mat next to the squat bar she noticed something with Bailey. In her opening was a tiny tuft of hair.
“Where in birth are you?” Kara asked.
Bailey reached down and touched her babies head. “Her little head is starting to poke out.” Bailey said. “I’ve been in labor for 7 days and pushing for 1 day now, her little head is poking out and its just so adorable!” Bailey said.
Just as Bailey went to lay back her baby slipped slowly back inside her.
“Ugh, fourth time she’s done that now, poor girl wants back in my belly! Bailey said.
Maria began another push, she was straining hard, but her efforts were being awarded. Maria now had a little baby foot in her opening. With her next push another little foot emerged. Maira now was finally making her baby move!
“Wow Look at that, Ive never seen a breech! Bailey said.
“Mamas had a struggle to get here!” Kara said.
Maria continued to hold her pushes, desperately trying to get more of her babies legs to come out. The legs were coming, and lucky for Maria the babies legs were now far out enough to no go back in her belly anymore. Meanwhile Bailey was getting a contraction. She was laying back on the birth mat when the contraction hit, her baby now well back inside. She pulled her legs back and began to push, trying to get her babies head to poke back out again. She held her push long and immediately went into another push when the first had finished, two pushes later revealed the babies head once more in her opening. Bailey’s contraction came to and end, the babies head slowly started to slip back.
“No baby stay!” She said as her baby slowly slipped back into her belly. “Ugh, poor girl, just can’t get outta mommas belly! Bailey said.
“She will come Kara said. “She has to stretch you out.”
“Its ok, I’m still happy carrying her around in my belly, I love being pregnant!” Bailey said.
“Not sure about you, but I can’t wait to get this little man to of my belly!” Maria said.
Maria pushed again bringing her babies legs out farther. The babies legs were big, and filling her opening fully. A couple more pushes had the legs out. Maria struggled a bit to get the babies waist to come, but when it did the baby slipped out to the top of its chest. Maria now had a large baby dangling from her, the baby was mostly born, but its shoulders and head were still trapped inside Maria. The baby became active.
“Oh god what is happening!” Maria yelled.
“The baby is moving, its helping you.” Kara said.
“Oh I don’t like that, its like I have an alien hanging from my body!” Maria said. “Stop Squirming!”
Meanwhile Bailey was just hoping to make some progress of any kind. She was pushing hard but her babies head continued to slip back in after each push.
“Well girls, I’m Hungry and the baby is obviously not going to come out at this point in time, Im going to go eat something, Catch you later.” Bailey said.
As she got up to leave the tiny tuft of babies hair in her opening disappeared back inside her belly.
As Bailey left, Kara focused back on Maria’s situation. Her baby was mostly out, but the shoulders and head were still stuck inside. The baby continued to move around attempting to free itself from Maria’s tight opening. The baby however was not having any success, he was simply to big and not strong enough, He had to rely on Maria to push him out. Maria continued pushing attempts, but she wasn’t having much success.
“We need to get you more active, get that baby in a better position to slide out.” Kara said.
“How can I move, I have a huge baby hanging from me?” Maria asked.
“There is a small birth pool in the next garden over, if you swim and wiggle around a bit, that baby might pop out of there.” Kara said.
“Ok I will try and waddle over.” Maria said.
Maria and Kara slowly Made their way to the garden exit and entered the next. As Maria walked the baby continued to make movements trying to free himself. They came across the pool and entered it. As Maria set foot into the water her baby immediately started doing large tummy crunches! The baby was not happy with the water.
“Oh dear, Uggghhh!” Maria said. “He’s squirming so much!” “Just come out of me!” “I don’t want him inside of me anymore!”
“Relax, relax!” Kara said. “He will come, you just need to keep pushing.”
Maria settled in and got back to work.
“Ok what do I need to do to get him out.” Maria asked.
“The warm water will help your opening and muscles relax, just settle in, wiggle your hips, and push.” Kara instructed.
Maria held onto the side of the pool and began wiggling her hips back and forth. The babies body wiggled with her. She began to push once more. With some tough pushes the babies shoulders slowly began to emerge, until they finally came free. Now all that remained was babies  large head. Maria built up and was pushing with all her power, the adrenaline rush of pushing the babies shoulders out combined with the sensation of her baby slipping out was causing her intense pleasure. She reached down and rubbed her stimulus. She began contracting violently in orgasm, As she contracted she pushed as hard as she could, the babies head shot out.
“Holy, oh my god, that’s the fastest birth I’ve ever seen!” Kara said.
“I believe I tore slightly, but the baby is out! Maria said.
Maria contacted central command to come and get the baby.
“Thank you.” Maria told Kara.
“Anytime.” Kara responded. “Now I’m off to find Bailey.”

your pregnancy had literally been a rollercoaster of emotions, but especially for your husband. seeing your stomach swell with his kid was heart-warming and reassuring and hot but it was also terrifying.
9 months of this? no, thanks. seb was more impatient than ever--when you approached the end of your third trimester, he'd be frantically asking "did you feel anything?" and "is it happening?" every hour.
he would definitely be the type of husband who would watch over you like a hawk--he'd cautiously plan your meals and the nutritional values, he'd map out different workouts and every other day you'd take a mile walk around your neighborhood.
when your water did break, i don't think sebastian would notice it. he'd still be oblivious to the panicked look on your face and would just pass you the bowl of fresh popcorn, eyes completely fixated on the movie you'd picked for that night.
"honey," you spoke warily, arching a brow as your hand flew to your bump. "i don't think i need popcorn right now..."
and still, he wouldn't notice. maybe he'd laugh at a funny scene and respond, "cravings? what is it, love, we don't have anymore chocolate mil-" and just then his eyes would turn over to you, noticing the darkness of your pants and the puddle forming in the couch cushions
soon enough, the popcorn would end up spilled over the floor and he'd scoop you up in his arms, carrying you to the car. he'd run back into the house to retrieve the duffel bag you'd packed for this day. and he speeds past all of the limits to the hospital, it's a miracle you weren't pulled over.
you'd be in labor for about 14 hours total, and waiting 5 five hours to dilate completely would take its toll. you leaned over furniture, lied in bed, occasionally would try to rest in the bathtub, but the contractions were never-ending. it was torture for sebastian to see you like this. "it's all for him." you'd remind your husband, only to hoarsely yell from a new cramp.
"or her." he'd correct you, quick to be by your side and aid you to the hospital bed.
and finally
it was here. everything you'd been waiting for for 9 months. it had been painful and sebastian had been extremely impatient, but it was becoming clear what the purpose of all your sleepless nights and restless days was.
sebastian could've sworn you broke every fragment and bone in his hand. somehow, giving birth gave you an entire new strength he'd never seen before. but watching your child be born was beautiful and absolutely horrifying. he got to see it like he was in first-row and nothing--nothing--was ever going to wipe that from his memory.
you'd be asleep for at least 10 hours, occasionally being awoken by nurses checking in or to get up and use the bathroom. you'd look over to see sebastian snoring away on the couch
and after you wake from your long rest, the sight is enough to make you cry.
it's extremely cold and the air is dry in the hospital room, so sebastian has a thick, wool, blanket wrapped around himself and you find he must've placed one on top of you at some point during your nap. you can't make out what he's holding at first, but his eyes are looking down at a bundle of something in his arms. he's got a smile played out on his lips and it's almost like nothing else in the whole world matters.
and when the cloudiness in your hearing disappears, you can just barely make out what his voice is saying in a hushed whisper.
"atât de perfect." so perfect. "și sunteți cu toții ai mei." and you're all of mine. "a noastră și a nimănui altcuiva." ours and no one else's. "mama ta te iubește foarte mult." your mother loves you very much. "a muncit atât de mult pentru tine, așa că o iubești înapoi, bine?" she worked so hard for you, so you love her back, okay? "dragostea mea în toată lumea, într-o singură persoană." my love in the whole wide world all in one little person.

Henry had called his family and yours to let them know you were in labor, as he drove you to the hospital.
When you were admitted and shown to your room, Henry helped you undress and get into the hospital gown. You sat up in the hospital bed, letting the nurses put in an IV port and everything else they needed to do to make sure your labor and delivery went smooth. Your OB came in a little while later to check on you, see how you were doing and to see how dilated you were.
“It looks like you've just dilated to three centimeters.” She told you, waiting patiently for the contraction you were having to subside. “So, you're officially in active labor and it's just a matter of time until its time to push.”
“How long can that take?” Henry asked, curiously, rubbing your arm as you relaxed.
“It varies, it can be as short as three hours or as long as five. But, all mums are different, especially new ones.” She explained to him. “We'll check how dilated you are in two hours, and go from there. Do you have any other questions?”
“No.” You shook your head at her.
“Nope.” Henry smiled, squeezing your hand. “How you doing, babe?” He asked after the doctor left.
You turned your head and cracked an eye open at him, giving him a look. “What do you think, Witcher?” You asked, smirking.
“I think, you're doing really well.” He blushed, pressing your knuckles to his lips.
“Well, at least one of us does.” You chuckled, pressing your free hand to your stomach as it slowly started to firm up again. “What did your parents say?” You asked, taking deep breathes and preparing yourself for the inevitable.
“My parents, Charlie and Heather are booking a flight to come out here.” He told you, rubbing your back as you leaned forward through the pain. “Your mom and Luke are doing the same thing.”
“Cool.” You said, letting out a long breath.
Henry got up and grabbed one of the wash clothes by the sink in the room and wet it with cold water, sitting down on the edge of the bed, he gently wiped the sweat from your face, pressing the cold cloth to your forehead, the sides and the back of your neck. You smiled softly at him, you always loved how caring and attentive he could be, the amount of love and affection he showed you never creased to amaze you. Henry smiled back at you, resting his hand on your flushed cheek and leaning forward to kiss your forehead.
“Can I do or get anything for you?” He asked, setting the damp cloth aside.
“I'd kill for a cuddle.” You laughed, grinning.
“Shove over, then.” He laughed back, motioning at you with his hand.
“Are you really?” You giggled, surprised.
“You want to cuddle, we'll cuddle.” He said as you rolled onto your side and carefully laid down next to you, draping his arm over your side and gently caressed your belly.
He kissed the back of your shoulder as another contraction came, rubbing your tense stomach, shushing you as you whimpered and whined in discomfort and pain, pressing your back against his chest and grabbing at his hand, squeezing so hard you felt his joints pop and he grunted at the pain, but he didn't pull it away, you needed it more than he needed you to not break his hand. He kissed the back of your neck, when he felt your body go slack against his, wrapping his arm around your torso and hugged you back against him, curving his legs into yours, so you both laid in a near ball together. He picked up his head a few minutes later, when you started laughing.
“What's wrong?” He frowned, rather concerned that you were laughing so hard after a contraction.
“We're spooning.” You laughed, tears dripping down your face.
“Yeah, you wanted to cuddle...”
“I know, but...” You panted. “You're the big spoon, I'm the medium spoon and Lily is the little spoon.” You explained, and started laughing afresh.
Henry pressed his forehead to the back of your neck, and started laughing with you, grinning into your back. “I didn't even think of that.” He chuckled, pressing his lips to your spine.
“I've seen a lot of things.” Your OB said, walking into the room. “Spouses cuddling in bed, is one of them. But, I've never seen them laughing, while they cuddled.” She grinned, chuckling herself.
“Sorry, she made a funny observation.” Henry laughed, shaking his head and getting up.
“It's quite all right.” She assured you both, pulling on a pair of gloves. “Laughing during labor is actually very beneficial. It helps relieve tension, increases air intake and therefore increases oxygen intake, and helps give the full benefit of your endorphins, nature’s painkiller.” She explained, sitting on the edge of the bed, and started checking how dilated you were. “Five centimeters, you're half way there, y/n.” She praised you, smiling brightly.
“Thank god.” You sighed, resting your head back on your pillow.
“Just a little bit longer.” She assured you, then went to make her other rounds.
“I'm going to go get a drink, you want something?” Henry asked, standing up and patting his back pocket to make sure he had his wallet.
“Ice.” You told him.
“Just ice chips?” He made sure.
“Yes.”
“All right.” He nodded, kissing your temple and going out. “Mum!” He grinned, getting off the elevator on his way to the cafeteria.
“How is she doing, sweetie?” Henry's mom asked, hugging him.
“She's doing amazing.” He smiled, hugging her back. “She's five centimeters now, so a few more hours and the baby will be here.”
“How are you holding up?” She asked, rubbing his arms.
Henry took a deep breath, held it for a long moment and let it out, his shoulders dropping. “I'm scared shit-less, I don't know if I'm ready to be a dad. I don't even know, if I'll make a good one.” He raked his hand through his hair and looked down at his mom, reminding her of the little boy that would call her crying everyday at boarding school.
She rested her hands on his face and smiled up at him. “You are going to be an amazing father, Henry. I know you will, and so does y/n.” She assured him, kissing his cheek. “What room is she in?”
“She's in room 18C.” He told his mom, hugging his dad as he came up behind her. “Where's Charlie and Heather?” He asked.
“They're at the hotel settling the kids in, they'll be over in a bit.” His mom told him, pressing the up button for the elevator.
“All right, I'm going to get a drink and y/n some ice chips, so I'll meet you up there.” He said and went down to the cafeteria.
“Marianne!” You grinned as your mother-in-law came into your room.
“Y/n.” She smiled at you, throwing her arms around your neck and kissing your cheek. “You look glowing, love.” she told you, brushing your hair out of your face.
“That's very sweet of you.” You blushed, smiling at her.
She laughed, patting your cheek and moving out of the way so Henry's dad, Colin, could hug you next. You all talked, Marianne would hold your hand and use a cloth to wipe your face, while you had contractions, talking you through it and offered her support to you, Colin got you some water and tried to stay quiet and out of the way. Henry finally came back up to the room with his drink and your ice, he kissed your temple as he gave the ice to you. He'd been detained by Charlie and Heather arriving, they'd left the kids at the hotel with a friend to watch them. They all stayed in the room with you and Henry for a while, before the contractions got to be too much, then removed themselves to the family waiting room down the hall. A nurse came in and gave you a shot of Pethidine in thigh, to try and help with the pain, since you were refusing a epidural.
“You're doing so good, baby.” Henry encouraged you, rubbing your back and shoulders as you stood bent over your hospital bed. “I'm proud of you.”
“Easy for you to say.” You panted. “You're the one with the cock.” You told him, flexing your back and shoulders.
“I know.” He smiled, not taking anything mean you'd say personal, knowing it was just the pain and exhaustion talking, it was something he'd learned to expect from the baby books and birthing classes. “I'm still proud of you.” He told you, moving back and letting you pace the room.
“Thanks, Puppy.” You sighed, pressing your hands to your back.
Henry grinned as you held your arms out to him, wiggling your fingers for grabby hands and he crossed the room to you, letting you rest your arms on his shoulders, hands caressing the back of his hair and rested his hands on your hips, you started to sway together, like you had back home.
“How about we set the mood?” He grinned at you.
“Oh, lord.” You smirked. “Leave it to you, to wanna have sex on the maturity ward.” You teased him as he moved away.
“No.” He blushed, going into the baby bag he'd packed.
Henry pulled out a small speaker, turned it on and opened a music app on his phone, pulling up the labor playlist you and he had put together over the last few months, pressing play. You laughed, hearing Tell Me Baby, by the Red Hot Chili Peppers start to play, softly.
“Tell me, Baby, what's your story?” You smiled, singing the song to him as he rested his hands on your hips again and you put your arms and hands where they had been on his shoulders and in his hair.
“The thing we need is, never all that hard to find.” Henry sang back to you, grinning.
“Run for cover, my sense of fear is running thin. Undercover! Just like a candle in the wind, Tell everybody, tell everybody. Brothers, sisters, the ending is coming.” You sang to Henry, resting your forehead on his and closing your eyes. “Ohhhhh...We are fallen, we are fallen...Ohhhhh, We are fallen, we are fallen. Now, we're just gonna ride it out.”
You chuckled and rested your forehead on Henry's shoulder as Paul Anka's song Put Your Head On My Shoulder, started to play. Henry smiled, caressing the back of your hair and pressing his lips to your temple, shushing you as he felt the warmth of your tears drip onto the skin of his neck as a particularly hard and agonizing contraction tensed up your body.
“You're so close, Nugget.” He whispered into your ear, as you just let yourself have a moment and released all your pain, exhaustion, crankiness and just the general feeling of really being over being pregnant, in a good cry. “Two more centimeters, a bit of pushing, and it'll all be over. We'll have our beautiful daughter in our arms, and it will be worth it, I promise.” He purred, his lips brushing against the cove of your ear and wiped the tears off your face. “I love you, y/n. I am so proud of you. You're going to be an outstanding mother, because you are a phenomenal wife. None of this has been easy, the last two years, for us. Being shoved together by our parents, our first year, the divorce...”
“That lasted ten minutes.” You groaned, throat tightening.
“Still, it was hard.” He whispered, pressing his lips to your ear. “Then, you getting hurt and what happened after that. I know, this pregnancy hasn't been easy for you either. But, we got through it, Nugget. Both of us, together, as one, and we can get through this. Together.”
“As one.” You said, softly, relaxing and feeling better. “I love you, Henry. So much. You're going to be an amazing father, just like you are an incredible husband.” Henry rested his head on your shoulder and the two of you stood there at the foot of your hospital bed, resting against each other, swaying and rocking to the sound of the playlist that was still going, streaming out All of Me by John Legend. How insanely appropriate.
“Henry.” You whispered, almost soundlessly.
“Y/n.” He whispered back, rubbing his hands up and down your back.
“I have the very strong urge to push.” You told him, gulping. “You might wanna get the nurse.”
“All right, let's get you into bed then.” He said, very calmly, and guided you back to bed, making sure you were comfortable, before going to the nurse's station, to tell them you had the urge to push.
A nurse came into the room and check your cervix, finding you were now fully dilated. Things got chaotic after that, Henry rushed out to the waiting room to tell his family that you were getting ready to do the real work, then came back to you. You gripped his hand, super tight, nails digging into the top of his hand, but his focus was on you, using his other hand to mop the sweat from your face.
“You'll be all right.” He said, seeing the fear, you finally let show. “I'm right here.” He told you, gripping your hand with both of his and touch his forehead to yours.
“Don't go.” You panted, and let out a painful groan and whimpered.
“I'm not going anywhere, sweetie.” Henry smiled at you, brushing your sweat damp hair out of your flushed face, looking at you with most tender expression. “You're stuck with me.” He chuckled, starting to shake as emotion and adrenaline kicked in, it was finally hitting you both.
This was it.
In a matter of moments your sweet little girl would come into the world, and life as you both knew it, the life you and Henry screamed, fought, slipped, clawed together, shattered, redefined and created, through it all, was once again changing, for something so much more precious. It was never going to be the same. The world outside would look so different to both of you, seen through the eyes of parents wanting to protect and nurture their child, at any and all costs. This was the last puzzle piece to the picture, and the picture in a whole was so blissfully beautiful and bright.
You threw your head back, every inch of your body drawing tighter than a piano wire, and screamed, the veins in your neck showing as you did. The pain of the contractions now was unbearable and you really regretted foregoing the epidural, it was too late now to get it, too. So, you went to the next best thing, your hand trying to find out how much pressure it had to exert to break Henry's hand, which you so far hadn't achieved, thankfully, and yelling.
“Holy fuck!” You snapped as the nurse helped you bend your legs, getting into position for pushing. “You have to get her out of me, NOW!” You yelled, tearing at the sheets beneath you with your free hand. “Don't you fucking laugh at me, Henry William Cavill, or so help me God!” You threatened him, as he chuckled at you,
He didn't exactly find the situation funny, you were in agony and trying to birth his daughter. But, even being the hot mess you were right now, sweaty, flushed, crying and seriously pissed off, he still found you irresistibly gorgeous. He did find it humorous that you busted out his full name, yelling at him like he was your child, that was being naughty.
“Is this what our daughter has to expect, when she's in trouble?” He asked you, between contractions and smirking at you.
You rolled your eyes and your head in his direction, making him laugh yet again. “I swear, Henry...” You didn't get to finish the sentence as another one hit, and Henry decided to drop it.
“Are you ready to push, y/n?” Your OB asked, positioning herself between your bent and open legs.
“I was ready to fucking push; nine months, a week and three days ago.” You told her, straining against the pain and resisting the urge to push, until she told you too.
“You've been keeping count.” She said, amused and shaking her head. “Let me have a quick look, and we'll see, if you're really ready to push.”
“Fuck me!” You howled, arching your back and whining.
“Y/n.” Henry smiled, shaking his head at your choice words during the contractions. “Our daughter's first word is going to end up being, fuck.”
“Oh, fucking go to hell, you little shit!” You barked at him, purposely putting several cuss words into the sentence. “You say, fuck, more than I do.” You accused him, making murderous eye contact.
“Geralt!”
Henry instantly blushed, a huge and shy smile on his face as he dropped his chin to his chest to hide it. “More than fair.” He mumbled, still to shyly embarrassed to look you in the eye again, or any else in the room for that matter.
“All right, y/n.” The doctor cut in, smirking at your and Henry's banter.
She usually had the wife screaming at the top of their lungs about how much they hated their husband for doing this to them, or angry that they were touching them. But, she rarely saw you and Henry not touching throughout the long seven hours you'd been in the hospital, with some rather painful laboring, or arguing with each other.
Bickering, yes.
But, that's not the same thing. It rather impressed her, and part of her wished more of her patients and spouses were like you and Henry, it made her job a million times better; since she didn't have to play referee between them and goalie for the baby.
“I think, we're on time to push.” She told you, getting comfortable between your legs. “All right?”
“Yeah.” You nodded, out of breath.
“You need to calm down now.” Henry whispered to you, in a gentle voice, petting your hair and caressing the side of your face with his knuckles. “Just focus on your breathing, clear your mind as much as you can and stay relaxed, and calm.” He coached you, so focused on you, that the pupils of his blue eyes were like pin pricks. “I'll be right here with you, the whole time, you have nothing to be afraid of, or worry about, all right.”
“Minus, pushing a whole human out of my body.” You said, trying to put the humor you actually felt about it, in your voice, but failed. Luckily, Henry got the jest of what you were trying for and kissed your cheek.
“Y/n, the next time you feel the need to push, whether it's during or after a contraction, do it.” the Doctor instructed you. “When you do push, I want you to hold it for five, then relax. All right?”
“Right.” You nodded, taking deep breaths in and out.
A few moments later, the very strong urge to push happened and you did what the doctor said, pushing down and held it there as she counted. One....two....three....four....five. Then, relaxed again with your eyes rolling shut, you were so exhausted and spent, and you'd only just got to the hard part. Another urge, another push and count to five, relaxing again. You did it several times, Henry praising you from your side, the doctor encouraging you from down between your legs.
“This is the most fucked up ab workout, ever.” You groaned, relaxing after another push.
“Soon, you'll have better abs than I do.” Henry joked back, wiping a cold cloth across your face.
“You can keep them.” You snorted, grunted and starting pushing again.
“You're doing fantastic, y/n.” the Doctor smiled. “I can see her head, so she's starting to crown.”
“My Princess, already.” Henry grinned looking down, but could see anything with your gown in the way.
“You are a fucking sap.” You chuckled, shaking your head and bearing down again.
“That I am.” Henry smiled, rubbing your back through it. “I have my Queen, and now I'll have my Princess. What more could I ask for?”
“You can ask her to come out faster.” You retorted, letting out a deep breath.
“That request might be filled in the next two or three pushes.” the Doctor told you.
“Two.” You told her, stubbornly.
“Then, make them good.” She remarked, looking up at you and smirking.
“Challenge, accepted.” You smirked back, and when the next urge came, you pushed as hard as you could.
“Little bit more.”
You took deep breathes in and out, in and out, staring up at the ceiling and preparing yourself. It wasn't any different than being on the track. If you could take a nasty fall on your bike and get up, and walk it off. Then, you could give one hell of a last push and welcome your daughter into the world, asking her what took so long. Henry could see the wheels turning in your head as you laid there, waiting for the next push, and knew that that one could be the one to do it. You'd grown exhausted and highly stubborn, a combination that made you dangerous. You slowly closed your eyes, feeling the urge start to build in the base of your stomach, spread up your spine and take control of your mind. Taking a sharp breath in, tensing every muscle you could and bared down with all your strength. Then, felt the incredibly strange wet swoosh from your core, a great pressure relieved in your stomach and let out the breath you were holding and laid back down.
A moment later, the absolutely magical sound of a babying crying filled the room and you knew everything was all right in this new world, feeling Henry's lips on yours and hearing his excited voice, you dozed off for a few minutes.

After seeing ur explanation for that anon i really want to see a fic or a hc of ethan as a dad and becca as mom can u please do it??
omg okay ahhh my babys having babies. this is gonna be long and idk if it’ll make sense bc imma jot down everything i know about domestic e&b.
[just finished and... this is long and broken down into 6 categories........... enjoy!]
Ethan & Becca as Parents
The Pregnancy
They didn’t plan on having children, it just kind of happened. Becca and Ethan took a day for the news to settle before they jumped into excited, expecting parents mode.
The most exciting part was renovating the condo to make the most perfect nursery and shopping for decorations and mentally planning all the traditions and things they’d love to give to their little family.
All of the happiness couldn’t mask the struggles of pregnancy.
Becca hated being pregnant. She was sick and nauseous constantly, and her back and feet always ached.
Throughout the whole thing Ethan doted on her; holding her hair back and learning how to tie it up in the way she likes, rubbing her back, running out to get whatever she was craving.
He even made copious amounts of notes about her eating patterns. Enough to keep two of everything in the condo.
If she was having a restless night, he would too; even if she was restless for non-human-growing reasons.
They were in this together.
And even when she was huddled over a garbage pail, dribble running down her chin, she never looked more beautiful to him.
There was just something about all this that made him feel all weird and fuzzy inside.
When her symptoms barely settled throughout the second trimester she overhauled her entire birthing plan. There was no way she was making it to 42 weeks. She was absolutely miserable. So she made a c-section appointment for 40 weeks.
She had an entire argument with Ethan one evening (she really was only yelling while he nodded his head). Her main points were:  “It’s my body and the baby will be fine. I was born 6 weeks early and I turned out fantastic!” and  “Once the baby’s out of me I’m still going to have to pee. Omg what if she rips me open!? How am I supposed to use the bathroom without worrying about my stitches?”
All he kept reiterating was:  “I love you. I trust you and your instincts.”
Becca felt better as he held her face in his large hands, his calming azure eyes boring into hers and letting her know everything will be alight.
But deep down she spent the next few weeks since making the appointment wondering if she should have given vaginal birth a try. She didn’t want Ethan to resent her for chickening out of her body’s natural function.
The Birth
Becca made it to her c-section appointment. Happily rubbing her large belly and glowing:  “I can’t wait to not be pregnant anymore! Never do this to me again.”
All Ethan did was chuckle.
He was happy she was getting color back and that her symptoms finally settled enough for her to spend the last few weeks enjoying their daughters kicks. But oh my god was Ethan Ramsey terrified of being a father.
He wouldn’t tell Becca though. She was emotional and worried enough as is. Any and all his concerns were saved for the short conversations he had with his father.  “Don’t overthink it, son. The moment you lay eyes on your daughter you’ll know what to do. It’s instinct. Biology. That was your best subject in school, wasn’t it?” Alan would joke.
The surgery went off without a hitch.
All of Becca’s hatred for the phenomenon of pregnancy vanished the second the nurse placed their daughter on her chest.
Rebecca was in awe. She made that! This little person came out of her! This little pink person that looks like a plucked chicken with a tiny tuft of brown hair was here and she was beautiful. The perfect combination of her and Ethan.
The embodiment of their love.
Dakota Dolores Ramsey was completely unplanned. Unplanned but not unwanted.
The first time Ethan Ramsey held his daughter time froze. The universe needed a minute to process the broad grin and full heart thumping rapidly from this stoic and reserved man.
The earth was about to spin the wrong way but then Dakota opened her eyes.
Everything was the way divinity had planned it.
At Home
Although Ethan and Becca lived a 10 minutes drive from Edenbrook, nearly a straight run, Becca forced him to drive as slow as possible.
Dakota was asleep and she needed to keep it that way.
Due to her stitches, Becca was forced to take things easy. No matter how many times she argued with Ethan that she was capable of menial tasks around the house.
Ethan would not let her lift a finger.
If Dakota needed a change he’d happily do it. if Becca was hungry he’d make her favorite.
“You had her to yourself for nine months. Let me take the next few days.” Becca went to retort, all she wanted was to hold her baby for the rest of eternity. She’d never tire of looking at her scrunched up potato face and watching as her features changed every moment of every day. “I promise to share.” “You better,” she kissed him as he tucked her into bed for a much needed nap.
The only thing he was forced to share with his partner was feeding duty - Becca was adamant on breast feeding. A bottle would not touch their daughters lips for months to come.
That in itself brought its own challenges.
Most nights Ethan laid in bed with Becca curled up at his side in one arm and Dakota resting on his bare chest.
Parenting was weird, but an exhilarating change.
Ethan couldn’t diagnose what he could have possibly have done right in his life to be this wholly happy.
The Second
Once Ethan and Becca had one child they were both itching for a second.
“You know what say: ‘if you have one you have to have two’.” “Is that so?”  “You don’t want Dakota to have a sibling?”  “I was an only child and look how I turned out.”  “Emotionally stunted and certified loner?” she teased.
Truth be told, Ethan wanted another. He’s been thinking of giving his pride and joy a few siblings for weeks now. He just didn’t know how to tell Becca.
Becca complained frequently about how happy she was to not be pregnant, and often about how her scar healed funnily.
All of the signs pointed to her not wanting another. And Ethan was okay with that. He never expected to have one child. He’d cherish every moment of what’s been placed right in his fingertips.
He’ll let his soon-to-be wife choose their path. She’s dictated everything else thus far. Ethan was elated she chose him to be along for the ride.
After Dakota’s first birthday, when they made the decision to have another, they tried desperately to conceive.
“I really don’t want to have to deal with diapers for five years,” was Becca’s main reason for keeping the kids close in age.  “We can try surrogacy.” Ethan offered, knowing how much she hated pregnancy. He didn’t want to push her into anything.    “No. I have to do it. I’ll do it for our kids. But you owe me big time.”
And 14 months later Caroline Marie Ramsey made her grand appearance.
And Becca got her first push present.
The Last
It’s fitting that four years later Ethan and Becca were blessed with another surprise.
Her pregnancy with James Jonah was the smoothest of them all.
Of course that meant something had to go wrong.
At 34 weeks Becca went into premature vaginal labor.
Within six hours their baby boy arrived. 5lbs 2oz and looking like an alien.
Ethan almost lost them both after the fact.
Becca lost too much blood with the placenta and JJ was so tiny.
But the Lao’s were fighters and they pulled through. Ethan cried at her bedside once the harrowing 24 hours were up.
Becca stayed at the hospital for a week, Ethan and Alan bringing the girls to visit every single day.
JJ had to stay a few days longer and Becca refused to leave until she could bring her son home.
She went through her first experience with postpartum depression. Becca didn’t think anything could be worse than the mental toll her abortion had on her years earlier. But she was wrong.
She was so wrong.
All their friends chipped in to help take care of the kids while Ethan devoted his time to helping his wife. The couple went to therapy, sometimes together, other times Ethan sat in the waiting room as Becca worked through her emotions.
Months later, the parents were sitting at home. Ethan held their son and their daughters were curled on their laps: He muttered into his wife’s hair, “I’d like to have one more.”  “Not with me you’re not,” she scoffed. “We’re outnumbered as is.”
JJ began to cry and the girls stirred. Dakota mumbling, “Tell the baby to shut up, I’m sleeping here.”
They couldn’t help but laugh and pull apart to put their whole world to bed.
Old and graying and spending more time at home with his kids, Ethan wanted just one more baby. Four was a strong, even number. He could have a whole daycare full of them - each one the best variations of him and Becca.
Becca had spent a large portion of her 30s childrearing and she’s done. Done with diapers and formula, especially. She loves her children more than anything but they’re exhausting. She can’t wait for them to be in school full time and she can have some more alone time with her husband. It’s been so long since it’s been just them too.
“Don’t hate me...”  “I could never hate you,” Ethan said as he brushed a few strands of hair from his wife’s face.  She swallowed and confidently said, “I want you to get a vasectomy.”
He agreed without further consideration. She made a very compelling argument.
Parenting
Ethan is the doting helicopter dad and Becca is doctor drill sergeant. The kids get away with nothing under their mother’s watch.
Ethan is very soft and adores his children. The grumpy attending could have a whole gaggle of them. He spoils his daughters rotten, picking up the newest doll and toy they’re obsessed with, and making them promise not to tell mommy.
The women in Ethan’s life get away with everything and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
When the girls were born, Ethan stepped back at work letting the better Dr. Ramsey have her career defining moments.
He took half days to pick the girls up from preschool and would bring them to the park or museums. He’d even try to teach them to cook their favorite recipes on cold, rainy days. He’d tire them out so that he and mom could tuck them in after dinner.
Ethan’s afraid of his son. He’s afraid the tot is going to turn out exactly like him - he’s the spitting image, except that his hair curls like his mother’s.
Instead of putting JJ in fulltime daycare, Ethan chose part time preschool. The girls were in primary school now and he’s taken a bigger step back from the hospital after the baby was born.
He devotes all his free time to teaching his son about all he knows and learning all he doesn’t.
Becca complains about the state of her vagina and stomach all the time. Never in front of the children but often enough Ethan knows the look on her face right before she says the same two lines.
Her favorite activity is building forts and taking the kids to the beach.
The holidays have never felt more alive with the full house. Ethan even became a Christmas and Valentines Day lover.
Becca loved watching him change over the years. Every new first they celebrated with each child, every one of their kids passions, Ethan would adopt them all and make it his mission to be a connoisseur of every facet.
Dakota sat her parents down one day with a serious topic of conversation: “Mommy, Daddy. I’m going to be a fashion designer.” “Will you?”  “Yes. And I need to dress myself.” “As long as it’s weather appropriate, consider it done.”  “And we need to get supplies.”
The conversation went on for 15 minutes with Ethan and Becca asking questions and Dakota making demands. Once they’ve settled on an agreement on how to make their daughter’s dream happen, Ethan retired to his office. He taught himself the basics of sewing.
Even with all the struggles of raising three children in a suburb of Boston while balancing very demanding medical careers, Ethan and Becca wouldn’t have it any other way. The life they carved out of all their complications was worth it.
All of this was inevitable.
And they wouldn’t take a moment for granted.

He Ruined My Sister's Only Birth Experience So I Made Sure He'd NEVER Forget Her
Kinda my revenge, kinda my sisters, both of us really proud. This is gonna be long so TL;DR at bottom. Here's our cast:
My sister - we'll call her "Sara" for the story Sister's Ex-BF - "Paul" Ex-BFs New Wife - "Jane" Ex-BFs Parents - "Mr. And Mrs. Doe" Oldest brother - "Zeke" Our parents And Me :)
When I was 14 and my oldest sister, Sara, was 22 we found out that she was pregnant with Paul, her boyfriend of 4 years. They immediately got engaged and they were really happy. For a time. Sara had a horrible pregnancy, about 16-18 weeks in the "wonder of creating a human life" evaporated within her. She developed hyperemesis (which if you don't know is really bad morning sickness), she was constantly in pain, she developed gestational diabetes, and just all around hated the experience. Around this time Paul, the then-fiance, started getting sick of the complaining. I believe the argument was "your body is built to do this, it can't be that bad".
Sara was due around Valentine's Day and Paul's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doe, were very excited, both about the grandkid and the fact that he could be born on a holiday. She was very against that and really really hoped that her son wouldn't be born on a holiday, even one as small as Valentine's day (her birthday sometimes falls on Easter and she hates it) because it might make him feel that "his day" isn't very much about him. Well, Mrs. Doe says something like "Well if you name him Valentine or Valentino then that'll make the day even more special to him!" Again, sister HATED the idea. She thought it was tacky, he'd be bullied for it, and just really didn't like the name Valentino. Paul loved it, but agreed to go with a more average name like Daniel or Jared.
Fast forward to February and she was ready to Get This Over With. Sara had officially been put on bed rest because while standing or walking her blood pressure took unexpected spikes and dips. I look back now and goodness do I feel bad for her. She was doing her best to avoid giving birth on Valentine's day because, again, she didn't want him born on a holiday. Unfortunately, births happen when they happen and that baby was going to come on Valentines day whether she wanted him to or not.
I remember waiting out in the waiting room with my dad, brothers, and Paul who couldn't stand to be in the delivery room because it was "gross". I was so mad that he could have gone in but wouldn't because he thought my sister was "gross" while giving birth, whereas I had to stay outside because I was "too young" to go in with my mom and other sister. Dad went home with the youngest two brothers while the oldest, Zeke, stayed to watch me because I refused to leave. 16 hours after Sara went into labor my little nephew was officially part of the family on the evening of Valentine's day.
Unfortunately, Sara was not okay. She had to have an emergency cesarean section and while doing the operation discovered that the back of her uterus (facing her spinal cord) had a very large and very severe (thankfully non-cancerous) tumor. When I say large I mean it was twice the size of a standard uterus. The doctors were shocked and didn't understand why nobody had noticed it on an ultrasound. It accounted for her severe backpain and blood pressure issues. The doctors immediately went in for more surgery to remove the tumor, but sadly ended up having to perform a full hysterectomy. This meant that my nephew would be Sara's only child.
Now while Sara was in for surgery Paul was taking care of everything baby related to make sure his son was okay. In my 14 year old self's memory I remember him being suitably distraught, but I didn't really pay him much mind and spent my time in the waiting room with my mother and other sister. Zeke, however, wanted to be a good future brother-in-law and make sure that Paul was okay. He found Paul filling out the baby paperwork on his own looking (in my brother's words) "like he had not a single worry in his mind". Zeke asked why Paul didn't wait for Sara to fill out the paperwork as she should have been put of surgery within the hour, and Paul said that he just wanted her to get her rest and heal. That checked out with Zeke, as he was 16 and didn't know any better at the time.
Now I know what you're probably thinking. "No, he wouldn't. He knows how much she hates that name. And still, she'd need to sign the paperwork too!" My fellow peoples of Reddit, I regret to inform you that Paul forged Sara's signature on the paperwork and waited until she was out of surgery to hand said paperwork over. My sweet nephew, that was born on Valentine's day, was named "Valentino" on his first official birth certificate. I still to this day don't know why Paul and his family were so insistent about the name. He had even picked out a different one with my sister! And before you ask, no he was never brought up on forgery charges because his parents were "witnesses" to her signing the papers, even though they only got there at the last minute.
So Sara dumped him and got her son's name changed a month later. She was willing to do split custody with him because that's her son's father and she wants the kid to know him, but Paul vanished and she never heard anything back, which seemed weirdly out of character to us. Until a mutual friend on Facebook was tagged in his wedding pictures 6 months later. Paul had apparently started cheating on her not long after she got pregnant. Sara was livid but there wasn't much she could do so she filed for child support and continued to liver her best life.
Until 6 years later. This is where the revenge starts, my friends. So Sara has been a single mother for the past 6 years and has been amazing at it. At this point in my career I've been a hairdresser for about 8 months at our local GreatClips. I'm working one day and who is seated before me but Jane, Paul's wife, herself. I take her back for a trim and she clearly has no idea who I am. That adds up because a mutual friend that still keeps in contact with Paul said that Jane doesn't know a thing. She has no idea about Sara, that she was the other woman, or that Paul actually has a kid that he's been (infrequently) paying child support for. She's in the dark on it all.
I told myself not to be an ass and treat her like a normal customer, which I did. Now at this point, Jane was heavily pregnant, so a lot of our conversation was about that. She loved being pregnant but it was hard, her husband was so unsympathetic (big shocker), and she was due in 10 weeks and they still hadn't picked out a name for their baby girl.
Ladies and gentlepeoples, this was my chance.
I asked what kind of name she was looking for and she said "I want something unique and unusual, but not ridiculous like Brayntleigheigh" (you know the ones I'm talking about) and Paul had suggested so many already and she didn't like ANY of them. So I, conniving little weasel I am, said "what about Sara?"
My sister's name isn't actually "Sara" she was named after an older family member that passed not long after she was born, but there was no female equivalent for his name so our parents created one. It's a beautiful name and just what Jane was looking for.
She loved it, she stuck by it, and I found out by stalking her Facebook months later that she had put her foot down about it and that was their daughter's name. Now Paul has a daughter with his ex's name to remind him every day about her (and to also remind him to pay his ******* child support).
Little nephew is 10 years old now with a new name and no contact with his biological father, though we do still sometimes call him Val as a family nickname. He likes it but doesn't want to bring it to school so it's staying a family nickname. Sara pretends to hate when we call him that, in a joking way. As long as he likes it she doesn't have a problem with it. And she's seeing a new guy who's really great and like a father to Val. :)
TL;DR: My sister's baby daddy forged her signature on paperwork while she was in surgery to name their son a name that she had been avidly against from the beginning, then broke all contact when she dumped him and married the girl he was cheating on her with while she was pregnant. 6 years later I meet his wife and convince her to name her daughter my sister's name because the wife has no idea my sister and her son exist.

~~~
“Tom, Tom, wake up.” You sat up, shaking your husband’s sleeping form.
“What’s the matter?” He mumbled, trying to wake up.
“My water broke. We need to go to the hospital.” You urged, and he shot up almost instantly.
“They’re not due for another couple weeks.” He jumped out of the bed and helped you up. He quickly went to put on his clothes, rushing to get ready.
“Trust me, I know.” You said with a groan. Your contractions weren’t bad yet, but the soaking spot on your bed told you it was time. Tom grabbed the hospital bag, which you two had just packed yesterday in case of emergency, and helped you out to the car.
“It’s going to be okay, we’re going to the hospital now.” Tom reassured you, but you couldn’t help yourself from thinking he was trying to calm himself down more so than you. He pulled out his phone and sent a few urgent texts to his family and yours, and probably Harrison too; with your family in the states though, you knew texting them wouldn't do much- they were meant to fly out closer to the due date. As he started to drive to the hospital, he held tightly onto your hand.
“Oh god,” You groaned, feeling a strong contraction hit.
“It’s okay, just a few minutes away. Try to focus on something else.”
And so you thought back to the first day you met Tom, nearly 14 years ago.
You first met Tom when he was cast in Billy Elliot. Your mum was one of the producers of the play, and she was highly involved with the casting process and rehearsals. Seeing as you were roughly the same age as the other young actors and actresses, you fit in with them well, but when you met Tom- it was a whole other deal. He was quick to become your best friend and you watched him grow up on that stage. You supported him throughout his career, proud of him every step of the way while you went on with your own life.
You thought of when Tom first kissed you, when you two first made that transition from best friends to lovers.
“You’re back!” You hugged Tom tightly on your front door step. He had just returned from filming In the Heart of the Sea, and you couldn’t be prouder of your best friend.
“I missed you.” He smiled, squeezing you just as hard back.
“How was it? Was Chris Hemsworth cool?” You asked, your eyes lighting up in excitement. You led Tom through your house and into your backyard, where the two of you sat on the back patio swing comfortably.
“He was amazing! Maybe you’ll meet him at the premiere.” Tom replied with a hopeful smile.
“The premiere?”
“Yeah, I want you to come with me.” He said, taking your hands in his.
“Really?” You asked in disbelief.
“Really. Do you-“ He paused, unsure of his words. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, “Do you want to go as my date?”
“Your date?” A soft smile found its way onto your face. “I’d love to.”
“Cool, it’s just- I got to thinking these past couple months that,” He let out a sigh, “What I’m trying to say is I love you, Y/N, and I really hope I’m not ruining our friendship right now.”
“No, no, I love you, too, you div.” You laughed.
“Can I kiss you then?” Tom asked and you nodded with a smile, leaning in to meet him halfway.
And the rest was history. You got married at 21, even though you both kind of considered it to be “too young” to be married, but you were in love and you didn’t want it any other way. And now, just over a year later, you were minutes (maybe hours, you couldn’t focus on the time between contractions) away from giving birth to your twin sons.
Once Tom was parked at the hospital, he helped you inside and the two of you got settled in a private room. Tom never let go of your hand as the contractions got closer.
“You’re doing fine, darling.” He tried to comfort you.
“It hurts, and they haven’t even started coming out yet.” You muttered, cut off from another contraction. “They’re getting closer together.”
“I’ll get the doctor.” Tom hurried out into the hall and reappeared by your side a moment or so later. The doctor came in and decided it was time for you to start pushing- or rather, your sons decided it.
“Doing great, sweetheart.” Tom attempted to soothe you, as you held onto his hand so tight he was afraid you’d break it.
It wasn’t long before the room was filled with the sound of two babies crying. Tom smiled proudly, holding one bundle, as you held the other.
“You did so well, sweetheart.” Tom said, admiring his two twin sons that calmed down in your arms.
“They’re beautiful.” You smiled. You were so tired- and frankly injured, but you felt so blessed by your little family already.
After the doctors ran a couple tests on the babies to make sure everything was fine and after they took care of you, you and Tom were reunited with the twins. It wasn’t long before a knock came on the door, and Tom’s family- plus Harrison, came in carrying flowers and balloons.
“Let me see my grandbabies.” Nikki smiled as you handed the sleeping bundle over to her. Tom gave his dad the other one and watched as his parents cooed over their grandchildren.
“Got any names yet?” Harry asked.
“Dad’s holding Theodore William and mum has Connor Elliot.” Tom said proudly, planting a kiss on your cheek.
“Like Billy Elliot?” Sam questioned with a laugh.
“Well, yeah, it’s how we met, so we wanted to play homage to it.”
“Actually, I liked the name Elliot and Tom suggested we use William too.” You explained.
“I think it’s sweet.” Nikki said. She turned towards Harrison, “Want to hold him?”
“Of course.” He smiled, gently taking the little Connor into his arms. “I’m going to be the best godfather.”
“I’m going to be the best uncle.” Harry stated as he was handed Theodore by his dad.
“That’s debatable. You tried to go back to sleep.” Paddy piped up.
“Well at least you didn’t have to call me five times before I woke up.” He said, shooting a pointed look at Harrison.
“It was 6 in the morning.” Harrison argued, “I was asleep.”
“Yeah, Y/N, next time choose a time when we’re not asleep.” Sam joked as he received the sleeping Theodore from Harry. Harrison handed over the other baby to Paddy.
“I’m so tired right now, I don’t want to think about a next time.” You replied, making Tom let out a chuckle. You turned towards Nikki, “I don’t know how you did this four times.”
“Just wait until the twins’ sleeping schedules aren’t synced up.” She teased.
“As long as they’re better than Sam and Harry, we’re fine.”
“Hey, now, we were perfectly fine.” Harry defended himself and his twin.
“Twins are the best- double the fun.” Sam added.
“Yeah, and double the trouble.” Dom laughed, “Nothing says welcome to parenthood more than twins.”
********
June 1988
Joel Victor Winchester has enlisted into the U.S Army, and his father Alfred isn’t happy about it.
“Really? That’s what you’re gonna do?” he asks his son, “You’re gonna throw your life away?”.
“Dad, I don't want to hunt anymore. I want to travel. See the world” he explains to his father.
“Yeah sure, getting yourself killed will definitely help out with that” he sarcastically tells him.
Joel grew tired of hunting monsters for a living. He wanted to change his life for the better, he enlisted into the U.S Army. His girlfriend Mandy was against it, but at the same time she didn’t want to hold him back. Within a few months he went off to training in Georgia. He felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders once he stepped off in that training base.
Aside from the Sergeants getting into his face, and yelling at him. Making him do 100 push ups in 1 minute. Joel actually liked it there. Better than stabbing a demon in the face, or cutting off a vampire’s head. It’s better than getting chased by Hellhounds.
________
November 1990
Iraq, the Gulf War. Operation Desert Storm. Joel along with his unit of 10 other men are passing through a desert town somewhere near the Persian Gulf. When an ambush causes Joel and his fellow soldiers to get separated from each other in the middle of the desert.
“This is Winchester to base do you copy?” he says into his radio, “Base this is Winchester do you copy?”.
Nothing but static on the other end of the radio.
“Now what?” Miller asks him.
“We keep moving forward” he answers.
“Are you sure?!” another soldier asks.
“Yeah, I’m sure” he replies. They all push forward through the hot desert as the sun shines bright on them.
“I don’t think I can push forward” a young Jacob Seed tells Joel. Panting and stumbling through the hot sand.
“C’mon Seed we have to keep moving” he tells him.
After several minutes of walking through the sand an explosion sends Joel, Miller, Jacob and a few others flying several feet away from each other. They all manage to find each other after god who knows how long. Almost dying of dehydration.
“We gotta keep moving” Joel’s second in command tells him.
Joel looks around and notices they’re missing a few of their men.
“Where’s Seed and Miller?!?” he asks them. They look around for them, and accept that they were either killed, or they got lost in the explosion.
“We have to look for them” Joel tells them.
“Sir, we have to keep moving forward to base” his second in command tells him. They move forward through the desert and make it to their base. Not wanting to leave two of their men behind, knowing they could still be alive.
__________
December 1991
It’s been over almost a year since Joel came back from Iraq. He wasn’t the same after all that shit. He suffered from PTSD, night terrors and insomnia. He has burn scars on his right shoulder, bicep and 30% of the right side of his body.
Thinking that Mandy would leave him because of his trauma and disfigurement of his skin. She stood by side through all of it. She didn’t see him any differently, she still loved him regardless. With the help of her sister Marie, he planned on proposing to her. On December 22 1991 just before Christmas. He proposed to her at a Christmas party in front of all their friends and family.
Taking a knee, the usual way of proposing.
“Mandeline Lucille Campell will you marry me?!” he asks, ring in hand. The crowd of their friends and family “awe” in response.
Her hands covering her mouth, she nods her head and softly mutters “Yes” to his proposal.
Tears filling her eyes as he places the ring on her left ring finger.
________
September 7 1992
The wedding of Joel Victor Winchester & Mandeline Lucille Campell.
"Are you ready?" Marie asks her older sister. As she dusts off her white wedding dress.
Mandy nods her head, taking a deep breath, "Yeah, yeah I'm ready!".
Preparing to walk down the aisle, and marrying the love of her life. Her long-time boyfriend, then fiancée and soon to be husband.
“Do you Mandeline Lucille Campell take Joel Victor Winchester to be your lawfully wedded husband. In sickness and in health. For good, or for worse. Till death do you part?” the priest asks.
Looking up at her soon to be husband, “I do” she answers.
He asks Joel the same exact thing, and he gives the same exact response.
“I do” he says, looking down at his now beautiful wife.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride" the priest tells Joel, and he kisses his new wife.
_______
May 1994
Mandy announces her pregnancy with her first child. Waiting patiently for the results, sitting on the bathroom floor as Joel sat on the opposite side of the bathroom door. She got the results, and she is indeed pregnant. She opens the door, and immediately runs into Joel’s arms, tears streaming down her face.
“What is it?!, what is it?!” he asks, excitedly.
She shows him the stick, and he lifts her up. Kisses her.
“We’re gonna be parents!!” he mutters, excitedly. Lifitng her up off the floor.
____________
July 1994
Joel and Mandy get the results on the sex of their first child. The ultrasound technician puts the gel on her stomach and uses the sonographer to scan her belly.
Joel holds onto Mandy’s hand in anticipation. Squeezing it.
“So let's see what we got here” she tells them, as she scans her stomach.
“It looks like you’re having a girl!” she tells the soon to be parents.
They look at each other excitedly, in shock and in tears.
“We’re having a girl!!” Mandy mutters to Joel, kissing him.
___________
January 19 1995
Mandy goes into labor a few months early, and gives birth to a healthy baby girl at the Phoenix Regional Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. After being in labor for 7 hours.
Weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces. Born at 2:15pm.
“She’s so beautiful” Mandy says, cradling her daughter. A nurse walks into the room, with a clipboard in hand and asks “So what are we naming her?”.
“Paige Hannah” Joel tells her. She writes down the name and takes it to file it for records.
“And you wanted to name her Dawn Mercedes” Mandy mocks him, looking down at her new infant daughter.
He chuckles, “Yeah, I’m glad you changed my mind about it”.
A few moments past and a man walks into the room.
“Joel and Mandeline Winchester?'' he asks, walking into the hospital room. They both look up at the man.
“Yes?” Joel questions him, “Who are you?”.
“I’m Michael” he tells them, “Archangel Michael”.
They look at him in confusion, Joel stands up from the hospital bed and becomes defensive.
“What do you want?” he asks in a threatening tone.
He puts his hands up showing that he means no harm. “I mean no harm to you, your wife and the new addition to your family”.
He goes on to tell them that he is baby Paige’s Guardian Archangel. That he will protect and watch over her until the day she dies.
"So what? Babies are assigned Archangels when they're born?" he asks.
"Yes, I believe Raphael is Mandeline's guardian Archangel, and I'm yours" Michael tells them.
__________
August 5 1998
Mandy gave birth to another girl at the same hospital where she had Paige.
Almost having her at their home which is 15 minutes away from the hospital.
Weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces born at 7:42am, now with baby number two in the family.
Mandy’s sister Marie watched over Paige while they went to the hospital.
After 3 in half hours of labor pain and contractions, she finally had baby Katella.
“I can’t believe it” Joel mutters, looking down at his new infant daughter “We now have 2 beautiful girls. She’s so beautiful”.
They both stare down at their new addition to the family.
“I’m so glad Paige stopped me from naming her Sasha Georgia” he says to Mandy.
She chuckles, “Yeah me too. Katella Evyanna is a better name for her”.
“Gabrielle would’ve been better” a man tells them, who appeared out of the blue in front of them.
They both look up at the man, Joel scoffs at him, rolling his eyes and looking up at the ceiling “Let me guess. Gabriel? Archangel?”.
He smiles at them, and says with his hands up “Guilty!!”.
“What do you want?” Mandy asks him, Already knowing what this is all about.
He sighs, sitting at the foot of the bed “The same route my big bro Michael did with little Paige. I’m this little one's Guardian Angel. I will protect, watch over her and blah blah blah until she dies. All that jazz”.
They both look at him in confusion, and also in a way underestimating the youngest Archangel.
"It's not too late to name her Gabrielle Tricksterina" he tells them.
"We'll stick with Katella Evyanna. Thanks Gabe". Mandy says to him.
________
November 14 1998
Baby Katella is 3 months old, Paige is 3 years old.
“What time are you gonna be off?!” Mandy asks Joel, from the kitchen table.
“Same time as usual” he tells her from their bedroom “5:30pm”.
He continues to get ready for work while Mandy feeds Kate her bottle, and Paige is sitting in her high chair eating cut up fruit.
He walks into the kitchen, and kisses her, and his daughters goodbye.
“I’m leaving for work now” he tells her. Kissing her head, as well as the two little girls.
Going to his job at the auto shop where he works as head mechanic.
Mandy is taking maternity leave from her job as a receptionist at a dental office.
________
April 19 1999
The night where it all happened, the night where Azazel took Joel’s life by causing a house fire.
Killing him when he went to check on baby Katella.
Confronting the demon that took his life. Killing him and pushing him up to the ceiling.
Mandy woke up to the smell of smoke, thinking Joel was cooking something.
She went to check on both Paige and Kate. Upon checking on her youngest daughter, a droplet of blood lands on Mandy’s hand, she looks up and sees her husband laying against the ceiling.
Within seconds the whole ceiling was engulfed into flames. Killing Joel instantly.
Paige runs to the room, and sees everything. Mandy grabs Kate from her crib and hands her to her eldest daughter.
Telling her to take her sister and run as fast as she can.
Running out to the front lawn as the house is engulfed in flames.
_______
September 2011
“Mom what’s going on?” 16 year old Paige asks her mother.
Des Moines, Iowa. A teacher from Paige and Kate’s high school had reported to Child Protective Services about some cuts, bruises and other wounds on Kate’s arms and hands.
A cut on Paige’s left cheek, and bruised, bloody knuckles.
Reporting that the 2 girls are being abused by their mother.
Mandy would never lay a finger on her kids. Wasn’t able to convince the police and CPS that she would never hit her kids.
Even with Paige and Kate coming to her defense. They still took them away from her.
“Everything is fine girls” she tells them.
“Girls you’re gonna have to come with us” an officer tells them.
They both look at him, and everyone else in confusion.
“What’s happening?!” 13 year old Kate asks. Hiding behind her elder sister.
“Girls I’m Nancy from Child Protective Services. You’re both gonna have to come with us” she tells them.
“Why?!” Paige asks.
“You both attend Des Moines Junior high?” the officer asks.
“Yeah” Paige answers.
“A teacher reported some wounds, and other physical injuries on you” he tells them.
They take the girls away from Mandy after they both resisted. Taking them away in separate vehicles.
Mandy later would have child abuse charges against her, and she would flee Iowa shortly after. Paige and Kate were sent to live with their uncle Brent and aunt Laura.
Mandy was charged, and had a restraining order against her. Forbidding her from seeing, or contacting her daughters until they turned 18. Once Paige turned 18 she took off and searched for her mother.
__________
January 2012
"There's a man in Hope County, Montana that needs protection" Raphael tells Mandy.
"Okay, what's his name?" she asks.
"God hasn't given me his name, but you are the one that must protect him" he tells her.
Not understanding what the job is actually about, she reluctantly agrees to protect this man whom she has no idea who he is or what his name is. Not knowing what he looks like either.
"Okay, I'll go to Montana and protect this man who I never met, nor seen" she tells the Archangel.
Make it Home (I’m still here)
A/N: This fic is a gift for @lupin72 (Em)
Wanted hurt/comfort or angst with a happy ending. I’ve never written anything like this so here’s my take on it. I tried to make it close to canon so I did wait until last minute to write this. I added some scenes that I hope you will like and warm your heart as it did mine while I wrote this.
On a more personal note, Arrow has given me so much. I’ve always loved writing mostly essays but before this show I had never encountered fanfics. Never would’ve thought I’d be here writing my own and sharing it. It’s been very awesome to be a part of something so amazing as is the Olicity gift exchange.
I look forward to reading all the works. I hope you enjoy.
Long Live OLICITY ❤️!
-Annie ( @sparklesannie )
Heroes don’t always make it home and I never forget that.
The very same words Felicity once said to her step-son now echoed heavily in her heart.
It’s been about a month since she’d tracked Oliver in earth-2 and sent John to help him out. John promised to get her husband back. He’d promised, but a month has passed and there’s still no sign of either of them. Her hope begins to dim.
*****
A couple of months later John finally shows up to the cabin. Felicity had just put Mia down for nap so she closes the door to Mia’s bedroom and guides them to sit down in the living room.
“Oliver wanted you to get William back so that he and Mia can grow up together.”
“Wanted?” She whispers as her eyes well up with tears. It’s surprising she still can considering how much she’s cried since Oliver left, she thought she’d dried up by now. “John, where is he? Where‘s Oliver?”
She had prepared herself for the fact that Oliver might not comeback this time. But she still hoped, he had survived so much the man seemed practically immortal.
“Felicity. I’m so sorry I failed him and you and Mia.”
“Where’s Oliver? What happened?”
“I don’t—“ John takes a deep breath before staring again. “There was this other monitor—”
“The anti monitor, yeah, I know about that son of a bitch. Go on.”
“Well we were traveling from earth to earth trying to save everyone. And Oliver he was the last one out from earth 38. He fought until his last breath…”
“Just say it John.”
“I’m so sorry Felicity. We tried to get him back— hell we even traveled to another earth and threw him in the Lazarus pit. But ultimately he sacrificed himself to create a whole new universe.”
A new universe.
“Well maybe he’s lost somewhere. I bet I can track him!” Felicity jumps up from the couch and runs over to her secret room.
She’s already typing when she hears John come up behind her. She types furiously, with purpose. “Any changes between this universe and the one before? I need to know it might help us find Oliver.” She asks before John can try to stop her efforts of finding her husband.
“Well apparently I have not one but two kids!”
“Baby Sara and JJ. Did you not have kids?”
“Well yeah but just one.” He hesitates a moment before adding, “I don’t know if I should even tell you this but your kids from the future popped up for a little bit. They’re wonderful people.”
Felicity swivels back on her chair to face a smiling John. “My kids? Time travelled? And I missed this?!”
“Oliver wanted to tell you but we didn’t know how William and Mia being here would affect the timeline—time traveling is apparently very complicated.”
“Oh. Right. Ripples. Yeah don’t want those. You know that’s how Barry fracked up the timeline and left you with just one kid.” She joked. But she couldn’t hide the fact that she was disappointed on missing meeting her kids from the future. “Hold on where was Lucas? Did they talk about me? Will I be a good mom?”
“You did an amazing job of raising two wonderful—Wait what? Did you say Lucas?”
“I might have forgot to tell you…I’m eight weeks pregnant.”
“And you already decided it’s a boy?” He asked clearly amused but excited by the unexpected news.
“I feel it in my bones, John. I’m having a boy.”
—————
3 months later
I’m still here. -O
There’s a neon green post it with what she swears to be Oliver’s handwriting on their wedding picture she keeps on her bedside table.
It couldn’t be. Could it?
John said Oliver died.
There was no way it was Oliver. Somebody had to be messing with her.
Maybe it was the Monitor, he’d promised that he’d reunite them again but how could he now that Oliver was dead?
Nothing made sense to Felicity anymore.
——————
Everyone made it to Oliver’s memorial service. His mother, both of his sisters Thea and Emiko, and William.
Felicity had been keeping in touch with William since Oliver disappeared. She’d told him about his little sister and he was eager to meet her.
Felicity would never forget that day.
How surprised he was to see her belly as it just started to show. How William wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held to her tightly. How happy he was carrying his baby sister in his arms. And the sadness in his eyes when he asked “Dad’s not coming back is he?”
She cried her heart out. She really tried not to but she couldn’t keep her emotions in check. “I’m sorry kiddo. I don’t think so. But I really want you to come back home. I— Your father and I wanted you and Mia to grow up together.”
William didn’t say anything right away but she could see his eyes welled up with tears. He reached into his pocket with his right hand while balancing his sister on his left arm. “I actually wanted to.” He unfolded his hand to give something to her.
As soon as it hit her hand she knew what it was. The hozen.
Felicity gripped the hozen tightly inside her coat pocket. She would never get used to not having her husband by her side, even more so now with this pregnancy.
She kept hoping that one day they would reconnect. That the Monitor would turn up again to reunite her with Oliver.
———————
3 months later
Giving birth is not easy. Not even the second time around. Especially when Felicity can’t hold on to Oliver’s hand. This time she holds onto Lyla’s. Thea and Moira wanted to be in the delivery room but the reminder that there was a missing Queen, the most important one, was too much for Felicity. So Lyla kicked them out, nicely of course.
After six hours of labor Lucas Jonas Queen finally makes his entrance to the world.
John’s face is priceless once he meets Lucas and Felicity remarks, “Told you it was a boy!”
————-
A year later on her birthday Felicity finds a letter on Oliver’s side of the bed. She hasn’t had the heart to sleep on his side. The bed seems too big and while Mia and Lucas both sleep with her on it, it always feels a little cold without Oliver’s presence.
Happy birthday.
I’ll be watching over you and our kids.
-O
That’s not the first or the last note Felicity receives through the years. After the first five she starts to get her hopes back up. There’s something about the little notes that make her feel hopeful again.
Even though she knows better she can’t help but believe that it’s her Oliver.
Keep me in your heart.
Love, Oliver.
She always gets that one on Mia’s birthday.
On William’s it reads: William, I love you. Live.
P.S. I know.
And on Lucas’ birthday it reads: He is so perfect. My Beautiful boy.
On their anniversary she gets a rose with a note that reads: You will always be the best part of me for the rest of my life.
Oh how she wishes it were true.
But at least Felicity gets the chance to be there for their kids. She will tell them about the sacrifices their father made so that they could live. She would protect them, love them, teach them how to be a hero in the light and most importantly she would make sure they know their father loved them, even if he didn’t know they existed.
Oliver had created a whole new universe that required the ultimate sacrifice. The ultimate act of heroism. Felicity couldn’t even be mad at Oliver she would always be grateful, he saved not only the city but the whole damn multiverse.
It’s like she once told William, Oliver makes sacrifices so they have to make theirs. That’s what makes—made their love deeper than other kinds of love.
And even if she sometimes felt alone and overwhelmed she could always look around and find pieces of Oliver all over. Moira, Thea, Tommy, now she had the chance to really get to know them and count on them as family just like Oliver would’ve if they had survived in the alternate timeline.
——————
2040
A lot has happened in the last 20 years.
Living off the grid was hard. But not as hard as having to raise Mia and Lucas by herself. William helped from time to time but once he left for college she was, again, on her own.
Since Felicity had managed to get William back he had been sad that his father wasn’t in the picture anymore, but at least he was quite excited and happy to have a sister and a baby brother. And now he was on his way to be a successful CEO of his very own tech empire.
Mia was graduating college and soon hopefully if she said yes, getting engaged. JJ was the perfect boyfriend, much like Oliver was to her, her better half.
Not far behind was Lucas who halfway through college decided to drop out and focus on developing a nonprofit community outreach program.
The kids were happy and thriving. Her job was done. They didn’t need her anymore. Still Felicity hoped that one of them would take over at Smoak Technologies. It was getting old for her, she loved her job and the amazing contributions they were making in the medical field but she really just wanted some peace and quiet now.
Shortly after Lucas turned one Felicity decided it was time to go back to Starling City.
She never would’ve thought that she’d be living with Moira, Thea and Roy at the Queen mansion, but there was room to grow there. Plus the kids would get to know their family, so they did. Lucas was Thea and Roy’s favorite—they’d deny any form of favoritism but it was crystal clear.
—————————-
On May 14, 2040 Felicity summons her kids to the mansion, she had to tell them that it was time for her to go. They understood and of course they were sad but it’s like she pointed out to them, she’s not dying or in any pain, they’re not losing their mother. She’s just reuniting with Oliver.
So they said their heartfelt goodbyes, shared some last minute words of wisdom. She told them that she’d be watching over them and waiting for them from beyond. She made sure to warn them about coming over to the other side too soon.
William thanked her for being a wonderful mother and for always being patient with him. Mia cried her eyes out and said she’d keep both her parents in her heart. Lucas was being eerily quiet about it. He didn’t say much just hugged his mom and kissed her forehead.
Wherever Oliver was he was waiting for her and she felt it was time to go. So she wasn’t surprised when The Monitor appeared by her side while she talked to Oliver’s grave in the backyard of the mansion.
“Ms. Smoak, are you ready? Where I’m taking you there is no return.”
Felicity fiddled with the hozen in her hand and looked up, a soft smile on her face. “I have waited a very long time to see him. I’m ready.”
“Follow me.” The Monitor instructs as he escorts her back inside and leads her to the foyer. “Oliver requested that I bring you from this specific location. Must have some special meaning.”
Felicity looks around and realizes just exactly where she is and what day it is. On May 14, 2013 she stood here on this very same place with Oliver.
“You need to stay here.”
“What? Why? You can’t just ask me—”
“I’m not asking. I will come and get you when this is all over.”
“No!”
“Felicity”
“No. Not unless you tell me why.”
“Because I need you to be safe.”
“But I don’t want to be safe. I wanna be with you, and the others, unsafe.”
“I can’t let that happen.”
“Oliver. You’re not making any sense.”
“Slade took Laurel because he wants to kill the woman I love.”
“I know. So?”
“So he took the wrong woman.”
“Oh?”
“I love you. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
Felicity is still smiling when the portal finally opens. She walks through and suddenly she’s back in their Ivy Town home. A fire is crackling in the living room fire place, on the mantel are displayed the pictures from their trip over the summer. They looked so happy.
“Oliver?”
“In the kitchen!”
She whips around so fast her ponytail smacks her in the face. There in the middle of the kitchen stands a sweaty Oliver making omelettes. She doesn’t even try to pace herself. Felicity runs full speed at him and jumps into his arms.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” He smiles down at her and gently grabs her chin to angle her head and press his lips to hers. “I’m glad you’re finally home.”
This is where they spend their eternal life. Reliving their best moments as a couple, blissfully in Ivy Town.
Home.
The end.
Chapter 22 of 22: Ikigai
= Reason for living (Japanese)
Within the last seven and a half months, Oliver had thought time and time again that he couldn’t possibly be happier or even just more content. Yet, time and time again, life had proved him wrong. It had just continued making him happier and even more content.
Having both of his girls sleeping in his arms, Oliver was really sure that there was no enhancement possible anymore now. Having both of his girls sleeping in his arms was all the happiness and all the content life could possibly offer to him. There was nothing more life could give him without making his chest burst from all the happiness he was feeling.
Smiling softly, Oliver looked at Felicity. She was nestled against his side, her arms wrapped around him loosely. Her head was resting on his chest, her cheek snuggled to shirt with her nose pressing against it slightly like she wanted to breathe him in with every breath she took in. She looked peaceful as Oliver guessed that giving birth to their baby girl just a couple of hours ago had left her completely out of energy.
He brushed a gentle kiss to the crown of her head and watched the way she smiled in her sleep. She took in a deep breath, pushing her nose even more against his chest. A long sigh fell from her lips before her muscles relaxed against his body again. She just continued sleeping, catching a little more rest.
Oliver turned his head to focus on his other girl. Just like her mother, the little girl was sleeping in his arms. Even in her sleep, she was moving her tiny fingers together like she wanted to hold onto something. Without any hesitation, Oliver combed his fingers through Felicity’s hair one last time before he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and placed his digit between his daughter’s hands. Her fingers wrapped around it, holding onto it tightly and, just like her mother before, she released a long sigh.
In all his life, Oliver had seen maybe three newborn babies. He didn’t have much experience with newborns, and he had never been exactly interested in them either. Still, Oliver knew without any doubt that his daughter was the most beautiful and entirely perfect baby that had ever been born. His whole life would revolve around her from now on.
“She’s so beautiful, isn’t she?”
Surprised, Oliver turned his head to find that Felicity had woken up. She was looking at their daughter. While her entire face showed tiredness, her eyes were wake as the same love he could feel in his heart was sparkling in the expression in her eyes. A soft smile was playing on her lips when she lifted her hand and put it to Oliver’s on their daughter’s stomach.
“The most beautiful girl that has ever been born,” Oliver agreed in a whisper, nodding his head. “No offense.”
Felicity chuckled and placed a kiss on his shoulder through his shirt before she replied, “None taken.”
They stayed like this for a long moment, just watching their daughter and enjoying the moment as the little family they were now. It was still so new, but it felt so incredibly right. Since he and Felicity had left the friendzone and finally become lovers, it had always been that way. Everything about them and their family was absolutely right.
The last year had brought a lot of troubles. Everything between Felicity moving to Starling City to their wild Las Vegas wedding had been utter chaos. There were so many things they regretted about how they had handled things. The cheating and the lying and the denial of what was right had just been utterly wrong, and there was no apology for what they had done. It would forever be a dark spot in their lives, but they wouldn’t let that taint what they had. It wouldn’t do good to either of them now that they were together and everything about it was finally right.
Even after that wedding, there had still been a lot of trouble as everyone around them had started to get used to them being together and having a family together and leading a company together. People had whispered behind their backs, reminding them of all the chaos they had created and all the people they had hurt with their actions.
This last year had been incredibly tough. It would forever be with them, but they would still move forward. There was so much they still had to enjoy, and they couldn’t let any past mistakes stop them from that.
Hence, it had been the best kind of surprise when their baby girl’s birth had worked out without any unexpected troubles.
Ariana Rose Queen-Smoak had been born at 10am after thirteen hours of labor. At 19.6 inches and 7.2 pound, she was perfectly healthy. Her lungs, as her loud cries had proved, had developed perfectly during the last nine months of pregnancy. Her breathing had been deep and even, her heartbeat perfectly strong. Oliver couldn’t have been any prouder.
Holding Ariana now and feeling her heartbeat against his chest, Oliver still couldn’t believe that this tiny human being was made by Felicity and him. He doubted that he’d ever really believe it. All he could hope for was that he’d eventually get used to it.
Moving up the bed a little, so she could sit up and lean back into the pillows, Felicity reached out her arms to take Ariana from him. Oliver brushed a kiss against the little girl’s forehead before he handed her over to her mother. As soon as Ariana was rested safely in Felicity’s arms, kept warm against her chest, he wrapped both of his arms around the two of them.
Holding them felt like his most favorite thing to do now. Growing up with expensive toys and other luxurious stuff had made it hard to really appreciate what he had. He had taken too many things for granted, but that was different now. He knew that he would never take Felicity’s or Ariana’s presence in his life for granted. Never.
“Everything I love is right in my arms,” Oliver whispered against the crown of Felicity’s hair. “I have never been happier.”
Felicity smiled, angling her head back. “You’ve said that a couple of times before already.”
“I know.” Oliver chuckled. “And I meant it every time.”
The expression in Felicity’s eyes softened, and she rested her head back against his shoulder, leaning on him. Without saying anything, she took in his face thoroughly. The corners of her lips twitched as she was still smiling at him.
“This last year brought a lot of changes.”
Oliver nodded his head. “Good changes though.”
“The best of changes.” Felicity smiled, turning her head to look at Ariana again, who was still sleeping so very peacefully. “Especially as long as she sleeps like an angel.”
“Let’s hope that is not going to change when we take her home tonight.”
Even if that changed and Ariana turned out to be one of the babies that cried basically all day, Oliver knew that he’d still be as happy as he possibly could be. He’d be exhausted without any doubt, but he’d still be happy. He was together with the woman he loved more than he had ever loved anyone else, and they got to raise their baby together. There was nothing that could overshadow this happiness for him.
“Speaking of home,” Oliver said eventually, clearing his throat, “there is something we have to discuss.”
“I know.” Felicity sighed. “We have to find a new place to stay. Our townhouse just doesn’t offer enough space to raise Ariana there the way we want to raise her. I love our townhouse, but I know we have to move out. I am not even trying to make finding a new place harder than it ought to be, but I just couldn’t picture the three of us in any of the places we saw and-“
“I know,” Oliver hurried to say and tightened his arms around her. “I know you are not trying to make it harder. I actually didn’t like any of the houses we have seen enough to live there either. We are both aiming for perfect, and I think that is what we deserve.”
After everything they had been through and all the obstacles they had had to overcome, they didn’t deserve anything less than perfect. They had had a hard start, so he’d make sure that everything was exactly the way they wanted it to be from now on.
“At first, I thought that there was no perfect place for us to live,” Oliver said quietly. “I thought that we just wanted too much. I mean we wanted everything and everything at once. I thought maybe that was the problem.”
Felicity frowned, looking at his face intensely. He could see that she didn’t like the thought because, just like he himself, she really wanted their home to be perfect. She didn’t want to settle for second best.
“Then I figured that the reason we didn’t find something that clicked with us was that we were searching at the wrong spots,” Oliver continued after a moment. “We already have our perfect home. We just forgot about it.”
Scrunching up her nose slightly, Felicity cleared her throat. “If you suggest kicking your parents out of the mansion and moving into that giant palace ourselves, I-“
“No, no.”
Oliver chuckled at the bare panic in Felicity’s eyes. It was the same expression that had been on her face back when she had been a kid and she had first moved into the mansion with her mother. Once she had been over the shock of being uprooted from her home and her life in Las Vegas and had been dragged to Starling City instead, she had taken in her new home with the same disapproving expression that was on her face now.
That look on her face back then had told him that Felicity wouldn’t want to live in the mansion or any place that was similar to it. She wasn’t the kind of woman to live in a palace with a dozen of people that made sure the chores were taken care of. She loved a smaller life, something intimate that was just for the family, just like he himself preferred it too.
“Our treehouse.”
Oliver bit down on his tongue as he watched the different reactions playing on Felicity’s face, almost the same way they did after he had proposed to her in their kitchen months ago. She looked confused, then amused and finally confused again.
“The treehouse is nice and cozy, but it lacks space. I mean it’s even smaller than our townhouse. Significantly smaller, I might add. I don’t mind living in a tiny home with you because I could never feel crowded as long as it’s just us, but that treehouse is maybe a hundred square feet which is even little for the most in-love people. It’s also quite difficult to reach with a car or even a stroller, never mind the lack of electricity and water supply.”
Biting down on his tongue, Oliver just continued to watch Felicity. He guessed that she still had to be very exhausted from giving birth because she didn’t talk herself into one of her rambles that would just go on and on until he framed her face with his hands and kissed her. Finally, that was how he could end her rambles instead of putting a hand to her shoulder and making her stop that way.
Felicity didn’t miss his silence, and she could probably see his amusement on his face too. Pursing her lips, she cocked her head and looked at him intensely.
“You don’t mean that we should move into the treehouse.”
“No,” Oliver replied lightly, tapping the tip of his finger against the tip of her nose. “Dad agreed to clear some of the forest land though. That way, we can build a house there, and we will have our treehouse in our garden.”
The moment he had thought back to the treehouse, that they hadn’t visited since the morning of Christmas Eve because Oliver hadn’t wanted Felicity to climb up that ladder anymore, he had turned the car and visited his father at home. On his way to the mansion, he had already been able to see what their home would look like. He knew exactly what cozy, little house they would build there, and he had been eager to start building it since the moment his father had agreed with the plan.
“You hear that, Ariana?” Felicity whispered to their daughter. “Daddy wants us to die like in all the good horror movies we will watch together in twenty years.”
Oliver was temporarily distracted by Felicity calling him ‘daddy’. The word made his heart stumble. She had said it before, but now it felt even more true. He really was a daddy now, daddy of a perfectly healthy and unbelievably beautiful baby girl.
Soon, he focused back onto the conversation at hand though. “Don’t worry. The forest is well protected. Dad showed me the location of the treehouse on the map. We can build a path from northwest. That way, not too much of the forest has to be cleared to lead to our home. It would also be far enough away from the mansion for us to enjoy some time alone and yet close enough so Raisa can drop Ariana at my parents’ place if we have some spontaneous meetings coming up late.”
Felicity perked up her eyebrows. “You stole Raisa from your parents?”
“No.” Oliver smiled innocently and brushed his fingertips over Ariana’s scalp. “They would have never let me steal Raisa. Ariana stole her.”
Oliver could see how hard she was trying to bite back her amusement and to look at him judgingly instead. She puckered her lips and cocked her head.
“You used our daughter to snap your parents’ house staff away from them?”
“I would have used everything and everyone to snap Raisa away from them,” Oliver replied matter-of-factly. “It’s Raisa after all.”
Felicity smiled, and he was sure that he had made the right decision. Raisa had helped raising the two of them. She was the right one to help raising Ariana now.
“So, you agree on Raisa,” he stated. “What do you say about the idea of moving into the forest and towards our treehouse?”
Felicity’s smile widened even more. “I love it.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” Felicity straightened up a little and brushed her lips to the underside of his chin. “I love it very much.”
Tightening his arms around her, Oliver leaned in and captured Felicity’s lips in a gentle kiss. Their tongues moved together in a slow dance. Everything inside of Oliver focused on Felicity for a moment. All that mattered was her and all that existed was her.
The low cry Ariana released made Oliver pull back and break the kiss to watch his newborn daughter instead. She was squirming in Felicity’s arms slightly, telling them that she was awake now. Her eyes opened every now and then, but they were never opened for long, and she didn’t manage to really look at anything for long yet. According to the books he had read, Oliver knew that it would take another few weeks until Ariana would really look at him.
Oliver had no words to describe how much he loved Ariana. If anyone had asked him twenty-four hours ago, he wouldn’t have thought that it was possible to love someone this much. He had loved this baby the moment Felicity had told him that she was pregnant. It was nothing compared to how much his love had increased when he had been able to first hold Ariana in his arms though.
Nothing would ever be able to compare to that again.
“Will you tell me now?”
Perking up his eyebrows, Oliver looked at Felicity. “Tell you what?”
Felicity smiled. “The secret you shared with Ariana during our wedding night.”
Oliver couldn’t help but smile. So many things had happened before and after that night. Still, Felicity remembered that moment of maybe fifteen seconds when he had whispered something to their unborn baby. He shouldn’t be surprised and he wasn’t actually surprised. It was just so much like Felicity to remember something like that.
“It wasn’t actually a secret,” Oliver replied eventually while Felicity’s gaze was still lingering on him. “I asked her something.”
Felicity perked up her eyebrow. “What did you ask her?”
“I asked her to be a girl:”
Surprised glimpsed in Felicity’s eyes. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Oliver chuckled almost a little embarrassedly and massaged the back of his neck. “I grew up with girls. I mean my little sister is a girl, and my best friend is and has been a girl for as long as I can remember. I get along with girls, better than I do with boys, I guess. It felt like a legit question to ask, and, as you can see, Ariana and I have that special bond where she does what I ask of her.”
Grinning, Felicity cocked her head. “Do you need more tutoring in biology? I mean that is not actually how the sex of a baby is determined.”
“It’s not?”
“No,” Felicity replied with a wide smile, “but I leave it to you. I don’t want to disillusion you.”
“You couldn’t disillusion me even if you tried to,” Oliver replied, pecking her lips. “Not today.”
They turned their heads to watch Ariana silently once more. The little girl had fallen back asleep in Felicity’s arms peacefully. She was sleeping quietly, breathing in and out with an even rhythm that Oliver felt weirdly comforting.
When Felicity yawned, Oliver rubbed his hand up and down her arm slowly. Placing a kiss against her hairline, he leaned his cheek against the crown of her head. Felicity sighed and snuggled even closer to him in response.
“Are you tired?”
“Exhausted rather than tired,” Felicity replied, yawning once more. “Getting this baby out of me was quite exhausting.”
“I wouldn’t have noticed.” Oliver grinned. “I mean you did have enough energy to almost break my hand with your death grip.”
Felicity glared at him with mocking anger. “Really? Do you want to switch places the next time?”
For a second, Oliver considered if he should tell Felicity that she had just alluded to having a second baby. He decided to keep the conversation lightly though. They had been parents for less than twenty-four hours so far, so maybe they should delay the planning of any siblings for a while. They should at least explore what it was like to be parents of one kid before they even considered adding another into the mix.
“Oh, I don’t think I would look that graceful when I tried to do that.”
Felicity pursed her lips, knowing that he was just teasing her, and pushed her elbow into his ribs. Oliver just chuckled though.
“Maybe you should sleep for a little longer,” Oliver suggested, brushing his fingers through Felicity’s hair when she yawned a third time within this minute. “Catch some rest. You had an exhausting day.”
Making herself more comfortable at his side, Felicity angled her head back to look at him. She was frowning slightly.
“I am surprised our mothers didn’t show up yet to argue who Ariana looks like and to hand us all kind of unnecessary and unwelcome advice.”
Oliver chuckled, kissing her temple. “They arrived here eight minutes after we texted them that Ariana was born.”
“How did you manage to keep them out?” Felicity asked in a whisper. “I imagined them storming in here and ripping Ariana from our arms the moment they arrived.”
Oliver didn’t doubt that they had the power to do so. When they had arrived here right after Felicity and Ariana had fallen asleep, he had had trouble to keep them out of the room. Only telling them that both of them were fine but in need of some well-deserved sleep, they had agreed to sit down in front of the room and wait until the two had caught some rest.
“On our wedding day, I vowed to always protect the two of you, so that is what I will do.”
Felicity frowned. “I don’t think that was in your wedding vows.”
“I think it was.”
“I don’t think so.”
Oliver shrugged his shoulders. “Then I vow that to you now. Felicity, I will always protect Ariana and you.”
“Even from our mothers?”
“Especially from our mothers.”
Felicity smiled warmly. “Good.”
Oliver leaned in and brushed another kiss against Felicity’s lips, sealing his promise to her. He loved his two girls so much that he knew he’d jump in front of a car to protect them. Handling their mothers might be more dangerous than jumping in front of a car, but he’d do that too. He’d do everything to keep them safe.
“I’d still like to wait a little before we introduce Ariana to anyone else,” Felicity told him when she rested her head against his shoulder once more. “Just until we get used to this.”
She tightened her arms around Ariana when she said those words. Oliver felt his arms tighten around the two of them too.
“So, I tell them to come back in eighteen to twenty years?”
Felicity smiled. “Spending twenty years just like this sounds perfect to me.”
“Yeah,” Oliver agreed. “Sounds perfect to me too.”
Everything that included Felicity, Ariana and him to be together for as long as possible sounded perfect to him. He could forever live in his moment as long as he just got to hold them.
When Felicity’s lids grew heavy again and tiredness threatened to take her away, she handed Ariana back to him. Oliver wrapped an arm around their daughter safely and put the other around Felicity’s shoulders while she was snuggling back into her sleeping position at his side. It took less than a minute for her breath to even out and her muscles to relax as she fell asleep.
Oliver placed a kiss into her hair and rested his nose there to breathe her in. As soon as Ariana moved in his arms, he turned his head to look at his daughter. His cheek stayed rested against the crown of Felicity’s head though.
“Hey,” he whispered quietly when Ariana turned her head right and left, her eyes opening and looking around. “Did you have enough sleep for now?”
Ariana let out a little sound, not really a cry but something like a sweet sigh. Oliver smiled as it was a new sound for him, one he felt already carving into his heart.
“Well, now that it’s only us again,” he continued to whisper, not wanting to wake Felicity and not wanting to frighten Ariana either, “I guess it’s time for me to give you a first taste of daddy’s wisdom. I wouldn’t really call myself wise, especially given who your mommy is, but I think I have three little things to tell you that will make your life a lot easier. Ready to hear them?”
Again, Ariana let out a little sigh. Oliver knew it was probably just his imagination, but he felt like his little girl was turning a little in his arms like she was trying to get even close to him.
“Okay, here’s the first,” he said and lifted Ariana a little close to his face. “There are no people on this earth that love you as much as mommy and daddy do. Some people might tell you that you have been an accident or the circumstances surrounding your birth have been crappy or whatever, but please don’t ever doubt that mommy and I wanted you and loved you from the first second on. The moment we knew about you, our entire life revolved around you, and it always will. We two will always love you, no matter what you say or do. You can always come to us.”
He was sure that it was the most obvious of the three wisdoms he wanted to share with her.
“The second is not less important.” Oliver smiled. “Always chase your dreams, no matter how unreachable they seem. If you really want something, you gotta work to make it happen. It might be scary and it might cause trouble, but you can only be happy if you aim for what you really want and need. Always.”
For way too long, Oliver had tried to hold onto what was right and what he thought was supposed to be. It had almost cost him what he really wanted and what he really needed in his life. It had almost cost him everything he was holding in his arms right now.
“And the last wisdom for your first day on earth,” Oliver continued after a moment, “is that mommy always knows best. I mean mothers in general always know best, but your mommy in particular. I mean she is the smartest woman I have ever met, and I really hope that you grow up to as beautiful and as smart as she is. And because she is your mother, she will love you and just know best what is good for me. Trust me on that because my mommy knew what was best for me too, long before I knew it actually.”
These last months since he and Felicity had told their mothers about everything that had happened, they hadn’t stopped telling them that they could have found this blissful kind of happiness if they had just listened to them. Oliver knew that they were right. If he and Felicity hadn’t fought against their mother’s wishes for them to be together for so long, maybe they would have found their way to each other more easily.
Sometimes, people just had to learn the hard way. It might have been more comfortable and less painful for everyone involved otherwise, but Oliver wasn’t sure if he’d be here, with his wife and his daughter in his arms, if they had taken the easy way.
Oliver lifted Ariana in his arms until he could brush his lips against her forehead. When he opened his eyes, for almost a second, it looked like Ariana was looking right back at him. The next moment, she was squirming in his arms again slightly, turning her head to the right and to the left like she was just getting used to having a body she could move.
It was adorable and heartwarming at the same time.
“Oh, and Ariana,” he whispered, leaning his head down once more to whisper into her ear with a wide grin on his lips, “we don’t tell your grannies about this. Ever.”
  Saturday, 14 June 2031
Two and a half years had passed since he had his beautiful Metis and his life felt worth living again. Somehow everything had gotten better, and he had managed to get his life back on track, even made friends with several of his colleagues.
Especially with Klavier he had gotten closer and the man was always happy to help him look after his beautiful darling. Not that they were dating, the blond was still far too much hung up on Apollo, but they were good friends at this point.
And two years after his first pregnancy Simon had decided that he didn’t want Metis to grow up as an only child. He never had planned to only have one child after all, but it didn’t seem right to use Fulbright again for this. So, he had asked Klavier if it would be alright with him when he would use his picture for his next children.
The man had agreed and also had been willing to go to the facility with him, but this still was something Simon wanted to do on his own.
And so, he stood here again in a comfy sweater and sweatpants. His daughter was with Aura until tomorrow and he had again told everybody, except Klavier and his sister, he would go on vacation with his little one for the next month. He just didn’t want to be disturbed during his first time with the kids.
He entered the facility and went straight to the reception to hand in his form and Klav’s hair. A nurse came and led him to the plain white room.
“I understand you have done this before?” the nurse asked, and Simon nodded peacefully.
The nurse then smiled and told him: “I’m glad you were happy with our services. I’ll leave you to it then. Or do you have any questions?”
“Actually, will the loading take longer with twins? I had the impression my first one took quite some time so I wonder if it will take even longer with two”, Simon confessed and scratched the back of his neck.
The man understandingly nodded and told him: “It is different with every baby and patient we have. Especially with multiples the loading time is hard to predict. To give you more insight in your children’s growth you have a t-shirt with a loading bar for each child. So, you will see how fast both of them grow. Does this answer your question?”
Simon nodded and thanked the nurse, who then disappeared. Determined he walked over to the table and looked at the shirt. The first one had been blue. This was pastel green with two loading bars on it. Clever. Different colours for different multiples.
Quickly he removed his sweater and pulled the t-shirt over. Next, he took the pill and was hit with a wave of euphoria.
Instantly he threw himself on the chair and looked down to this already swelling stomach.
11%, 19%, 26%
13%, 26%, 31%
Well, apparently baby one didn’t want to be as fast as baby two and still Simon almost had the feeling as if he was already filled out with these two even though he hadn’t even reached the half point.
Carefully he laid his hand on his belly and hummed something as his abdomen grew under it.
35%, 41%, 49%
46%, 54%, 67%
He giggled as two on the left wiggled and mumbled to them to be more patient and then quietly cheered on one on his right.
53%, 58%, 61%...
72%, 84%, 92%
Simon’s stomach was huge and the bump he had had with Metis felt laughably small in comparison. Almost he worried how he would be able to stand up again but fixated then on the slow growth of baby one. It didn’t stand still it just had slowed down visibly and for a moment Simon felt a wave of exhaustion run through him.
63%... 64%... 65%...
95%, 97% - Ding!
Baby two was apparently ready as the second bar started to flash, and Simon calmingly tapped the littler one’s side. Then he continued talking with baby one and told them about their great home and awesome older sister. Slowly their bar took up pace and Simon could not stop himself from thinking that this one might have gotten Klavier’s sense for drama.
73%, 81%, 89%
“There we go. You’re doing great, love”, Simon praised and petted his huge stomach with a wide smile.
94%, 96%, 99% - Ding!
A light went off and the male nurse from before came in to help him change out of his clothes and into the gown. He looked at his big stomach, while doing so and then shot a glance to Simon.
Exhausted he gave him a smirk back and asked if he could be supported while walking as he was not sure how well he could keep his balance at this point. The nurse did as he asked and then led him to the delivery wing.
He looked around and drew circles over his stomach. The gown lay uncomfortably close on his huge bump and even the cloth on his chest felt a bit too tight as his chest had grown a bit as well, due to the milk in it. Yet he still looked around in the halls and got glimpses into different wards with different patients, few of them he actually recognized. Silently he looked down to his babies and thought of all the birthdays they would share with other children. Hopefully they wouldn’t mind that too much.
Finally, they got to an empty ward and his nurse clipped on his wristband and was already about to go, as Simon stopped him and asked shyly: “I know I asked for no assistance, but I didn’t participate how big I’d get and – could you just help me into the tub?”
The man swallowed down a laugh and rushed to help Simon into the bathtub. With a wave the man was gone and immediately the contractions set in.
Simon cursed and pressed his hands again his filled stomach. The bump hardened steadily in shorter periods and he started sweating and panting more and more.
The pain was stronger and more way more vicious than last time and several moments he felt like the couldn’t properly breath anymore, until suddenly all rapidly eased and baby two started pressing down the birth canal. Again, his water hadn’t broken but he did not care much as two harshly forced themselves down.
“Ahh.. ahh… hhhh… dear”, he mumbled and glanced to the countdown on his wrist which had switched to the labouring time. Two hours baby two would take. With such an impatient baby that might hurt quite a bit, Simon thought and pushed with a loud huff.
It didn’t take long until two had made its way down, but as they crowned Simon had difficulties to push them further and had to start shaking his hips to get things moving a bit. After a seemingly endless procedure, which actually wasn’t as long as Simon believed it to be, they finally came out and Simon fished out his baby and cleared their face.
This one cried and blinked with soft, grey eyes into the world’s light. Admiringly, Simon laid the baby on his chest, patted their back and started pressing his legs against the bathtub’s sides. Baby one needed to get out as well and somehow Simon had the feeling that they needed more motivation than their sibling.
And he was right. It took them more than half an hour to get into the birth canal. But as he finally was in there Simon did not need to do a lot to get them out. Only several pushes later and his second one was out as well, and he gently cleaned them. They had the same eyes and also few black hairs on their head. Maternal twins then. Both boys, and big boys to say the least.
Tiredly he huffed and sat up a bit. Two, who had ironically come first, whined and intuitively Simon held him to his breast, and he started drinking.
Simon laughed and gently drew circles over one’s leg. He looked at him and quietly whispered: “Your brother is a true go-getter. A Katsu I believe. That’s fitting for him, isn’t it?”
He blinked and whined somewhat approvingly, and Simon put him on his other chest. Hesitantly he started drinking and Simon heard the door open.
Without gifting the entering person any attention, he mumbled to his other son: “And you’re my Jun. My big, shy Jun.”
Number 2, here it goes...
My mind is full of uncoordinated thoughts, oscillating constantly between my family, my work and the constant battle with my own perception of my body. I don’t think I am particularly good at any of them but I do have a tendency to fall victim to negative self-talk more than I experience feel good about myself vibes.
I don’t think (or at least I hope) I am not the only one and that what I feel is just the result of our environment and society pressures. So, to some extent, I see this writing endeavor as some form of modern exorcism where I try, one by one, to set myself free from some of my demons.
Today’s demon is called motherhood. This is by far the one that scares me the most and eats at my confidence ferociously. Oddly enough coming from a mother, I am not particularly “motherly”. As a young woman, I never fantasized about how my wedding was going to look like, what my type of man was going to be or how many children we’d have. I was put in front of it all and someday, I’ll write all about it.
Motherhood was no different. I never knew what it would entail nor did I spend any amount of time thinking about it before it happened. We got pregnant extremely easily and we went from vague chats about having children to having actual children in what seemed an instant. My pregnancy was super normal, kinda eventless, dominated by a race to double my weight by the end of it. Started with at a size 8 and finished at about 18. For the last week of pregnancy, I weighed more than my husband - approx 90 kg.
My son was born after about 12 hours of induced labor, of which I do not remember more than 3 as I was enjoying 3 epidural top-ups and a cocktail of pain killers and gas. All naturale, you say? Nope, not for me, I have a non-existent threshold to pain so that decision took me all of 1 nanosecond. Oh, the judgement, I should’ve felt everything, every minute…
Nothing prepared me for all the events following his birth... jaundice, ICU for the first week, feeding tubes, denial of exhaustion, the onset of postpartum, 12 months of surreal fights with my husband, complete cut-off from the world and continuous spiralling waiting for that effing maternal switch he was supposed to flick on his way out of my womb to finally switch on. I started hating my other friends with babies, they all seemed so good at it, their babies were so much bigger, all in 110th percentile (effing percentiles), they were the best eaters, the best sleepers. I hated them and their babies. I was probably at my lowest a few weeks after he was born when my husband drove me to a breastfeeding clinic. You see, I had to take lessons and had to stay still and let a complete stranger man handle me and my baby while she was telling me I needed to try harder and that my instincts would eventually kick in.
After that, my own baby was my source of constant fear, I hovered over him constantly and I wasn’t really paying much attention to anyone telling me what I should do. And then, there was my body or what was left of it... a full size 14 I couldn’t recognize in the mirror. None of my pre-motherhood clothes fitted me anymore and one by one, they all ended up in the bin.
And then, one day, he turned 2 and I was back into a size 8 jeans. One by one, my fears were starting to feel more and more muted, still there but distant and easier to get lost in the background. The switch hadn’t switched on yet but what had changed was I was no longer afraid I was going to kill him, nor did I feel like the worst mom in the world. He was learning to walk and talk and be independent, he was growing into his own, into a person I was proud to be associated with, let alone be his mum.
He has grown to be his daddy’s boy, his mini-me and that is super endearing. Physically, he looks so much like me but the way he talks and carries himself is 100% his dad. He’s so cool, he’s grown into an incredible human with such an exquisite view on life. I’m proud to recognize some of my weirdness as a child in him. He is incredibly smart and I know, I just know he’ll change the world. I know all moms are meant to believe and say that, but with this lil guy, it’s true.
And the switch you ask? Still unsure... I don’t want another child even though I know this will be one of my husband’s biggest regrets. I don’t like other people’s children and I don’t find holding babies particularly thrilling. That switch story lingered over me for the first couple years of my life as a mother like a bad smell, triggered depressive thoughts and set unrealistic expectations for a young woman that didn’t know what to expect. My truth is probably one that I came to understand much later. I was born to give birth to my son, to give him all the support I can to make sure he’s going to grow into a spectacular human... but I was also born to do more than be a mom. For a long time, I felt guilty for not being content with just being a mum, for needing so much more for my own selfish good. But why should I feel guilty? Mom was the last thing I became. I was first daughter, a sister, a prolific student, an ambitious young woman, a girlfriend, a wife and then, a mother. I realized that when I stop feeling guilty about all the other things I am is when I am going to start being a good mom... click, do you hear that switch?
The world is written of norms and everyone, absolutely everyone, you have an opinion about what you should be and how good you should be at it. My personal victory is thinking of a time I had to go to a breastfeeding clinic and then glancing at my 9 year old walking by my side on a random Saturday afternoon.
WU Self-Care Series: Postpartum Care
Tumblr media
Painting by Emily (Steiner) McGhee ‘08
You’re having a baby, congrats!  During pregnancy,  you and your pregnant body are often the focus of attention for your physician, caregivers, and family. Alas, that focus, however, seems to dissipate as soon as the baby arrives. To help refocus the attention on you, Wellesley Underground crowd-sourced the self-care advice in this toolkit from alumnae parents ranging in class years from 1995 to 2008. This postpartum care toolkit serves as a reminder to make sure that you take care of yourself.
Further, pregnant individuals are often inundated with literature and articles on what to do and what not to do on every topic ranging from breastfeeding to postpartum depression, not to mention opinions from everyone including random people on the street who think it’s appropriate to talk about your pregnant body (and even ask if they can touch your belly!!!).
Thus, this toolkit also serves as a reminder to give yourself permission to make choices that are right for you without guilt. Thinking about self-care can be a challenge as a new parent but you know how they tell you to first put your own oxygen mask on before assisting your child? That concept certainly applies here as well. Failing to appropriately prioritize yourself may very well mean an impaired ability to adequately take care of your baby.
Setting Expectations:
1. YOU CHOOSE who gets to be in the room with you when you go into labor. You do not need to “be nice” to anyone. You do not have to tell anyone when you go into labor. Decide what you want and make your wishes known up front. You can tell your mom that you will call her after you have had the baby. Or you can tell her the second you feel the pangs. Completely up to you!
2. You can also make a schedule of when you want family/friends to come visit. For example, you may want a week of just you (and your partner if you have one) and the baby. You may want help immediately. Figure out what you want and let your family/friends know when and how long they may visit.
Things to Include in Your Hospital Bag:
No one really tells you all the wonderful transformations your body goes through in delivering a baby. From hemorrhoids to episiotomy stitches to leaking nipples, our list of things to include in your hospital bag has you covered*.
1. Adult Diapers - those mesh ones they provide in the hospital are useless and get messy
2. Overnight maxi pads (to put in your adult diaper)
3. Dermoplast for episiotomy stitches
4. Stool softener (Note: some hospitals do not allow you to bring your own medication, even OTC)
5. Preparation H
6. Nipple Cream
7. Nipple Pads
8. Tucks
9. Pacifier for baby
10. Chapstick
11. Lotion
12.  Snacks, especially for your partner who isn’t going to want to leave you but will get hungry
13. Drinks with calories (coconut water, broth, juice, sweet tea, etc). You may feel too nauseous to eat, but these drinks can keep your energy up.
14. Hair band so you can get your hair out of your face!
15. Your own soap and shampoo
16. A robe so you aren’t stuck in the hospital gown after you give birth
17. Phone charger
18. Phone/camera. Get pictures!
*Some hospitals will provide some of the items listed above; check to see what may be made available to you after admission.
Things to Stock in Your House for When You Get Home from the Hospital:
1. Padsicles
2. One-handed snacks
3. Huge water bottle with a straw (or bendy straws to put in water bottle)
4. Mindless TV
5. Nursing pads and nipple cream
6. Epsom salts for sitz baths
7. Disposable pads for your bed in case you get night sweats.
8. Something for your shower drain at about 4-6 months out because that glorious pregnancy hair will fall out.
9. Very excellent rocking chair with an amazing butt cushion.
10. My Brest Friend nursing pillow
11. Takeout! Frozen meals. Meal train. Easy food.
Feeding Your Baby: Breastfeeding vs. Formula:
1. If breastfeeding isn't working, you are not a failure. This happens to many women. Get the help of a lactation consultant if you want to keep trying; if not, it is totally okay to formula feed. Do not feel guilty about how you feed your baby.
2. Hospitals often have lactation consultants on staff or you can find a local International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Ask for help with nursing positions while you’re there. You can also go to a hospital or WIC-sponsored breastfeeding group, or a Breastfeeding USA or  La Leche League meeting near you-- they are free and very helpful!
3. Your body transitions from making colostrum to making mature milk typically between days 2 and 5, although this can take longer. Nursing 10-12 times in a 24 hour span helps to fill baby's tiny tummy and establish a milk supply.
4. It may feel like your milk doesn’t come in for a week, and that’s ok.
5. Breastfeeding may hurt in the first few months. This may (or may not!) be a sign of a bad latch or a tongue-tie. The best way to know is to see a lactation consultant or go to a La Leche League meeting.
6. Cold compresses or cold cabbage leaves can help with engorgement, as can reverse pressure softening (http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/rev_pressure_soft_cotterman).
7. You can under produce or you can overproduce.  The left and right side will produce different amounts.  This is all normal.
8. Lanolin. Beware that lanolin is derived from wool.  If you are allergic to wool, then you are probably allergic to lanolin and need to find a vegan alternative.
Baby Blues /Postpartum Depression:
1. Don’t feel guilty about your symptoms or about the fact that you are experiencing baby blues/ postpartum depression.
2. Take people up on their offers to help. People LOVE to help with new babies and are usually thrilled and honored to help, even if that help is doing laundry or holding the baby so you can shower or nap. Naps are the best!
3. It’s OK to cry, it’s OK to be sad, it’s OK to be scared - you are caring for a tiny human being and that is overwhelming!
4. Don’t suffer in silence: talk to someone you trust about what you are experiencing whether that’s your partner, your therapist, or your friends.
5. Get out of the house! Go for walks. See if someone can watch the baby while you go do something nice for yourself (haircut, mani/pedi). While it is helpful to get out of the house, please also remember to not overdo it and try to do too much. Some days a ten-minute walk is a major accomplishment and that is OK.
6. There are TONS of local resources that want to help.  Google YOUR AREA and PPD, and you will find phone numbers you can call. Women trained to help with PPD are right there on the line. They can recommend further resources if needed
7. Feeling isolated? There are many ways to connect with new moms! Breastfeeding support groups (may be offered at your hospital, see also La Leche League); Baby wearing groups (https://babywearinginternational.org/); FaceBook groups; etc. Find others who are going through the same things that you are experiencing.
Best 18 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy
Tumblr media
1. Staying Healthy During Pregnancy
If you're pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant, you probably know some of the basic pregnancy advice about taking care of yourself and the baby: don't smoke or be around secondhand smoke, don't drink, and get your rest. Here are more pregnancy tips, from taking vitamins to what to do with the kitty litter, that can help ensure safe and healthy prenatal development.
2. Take a Prenatal Vitamin
Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start.
Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too.
3. Exercise
Staying active is important for your general health and can help you reduce stress, control your weight, improve circulation, boost your mood, and sleep better. Take a pregnancy exercise class or walk at least 15-20 minutes every day at a moderate pace, in cool, shaded areas or indoors in order to prevent overheating.
Pilates, yoga, swimming, and walking are also great activities for most pregnant women, but be sure to check with your doctor first before starting any exercise program. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. Listen to your body, though, and don't overdo it.
4. Write a Birth Plan
Determined to have a doula? Counting on that epidural? Write down your wishes and give a copy to everyone involved with the delivery. According to the American Pregnancy Association, here are some things to consider when writing your birth plan:
- Who you want present, including children or siblings of the baby - Procedures you want to avoid - What positions you prefer for labor and delivery - Special clothing you'd like to wear - Whether you want music or a special focal point - Whether you want pain medications, and what kind - What to do if complications arise
5. Educate Yourself
Even if this isn't your first baby, attending a childbirth class will help you feel more prepared for delivery. Not only will you have the chance to learn more about childbirth and infant care, but you can ask specific questions and voice any concerns. You'll also become more acquainted with the facility and its staff.
Now is also a good time to brush up on your family's medical history. Talk to your doctor about problems with past pregnancies, and report any family incidences of birth defects.
6.Practice Kegels
Kegel exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support your bladder, bowels, and uterus. Done correctly, this simple exercise can help make your delivery easier and prevent problems later with incontinence. The best part: No one can tell you're doing them, so you can practice kegels in the car, while you're sitting at your desk, or even standing in line at the grocery store. Here's how to do them right:
- Practice squeezing as though you're stopping the flow of urine when you use the bathroom - Hold for three seconds, then relax for three - Repeat 10 times
7. Change Up Chores
Even everyday tasks like scrubbing the bathroom or cleaning up after pets can become risky when you're pregnant. Exposure to toxic chemicals, lifting heavy objects, or coming in contact with bacteria can harm you and your baby. Here are some things to (hooray!) take off your to-do-list:
- Heavy lifting - Climbing on stepstools or ladders - Changing kitty litter (to avoid toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by a parasite which cats can carry) - Using harsh chemicals - Standing for long periods of time, especially near a hot stove
8. Track Your Weight Gain
We know—you're eating for two. But packing on too many extra pounds may make them hard to lose later. At the same time, not gaining enough weight can put the baby at risk for a low-weight birth, a major cause of developmental problems. Recently the Institute of Medicine (IOM) issued new guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy. Here's what the IOM recommends, based on a woman's BMI (body mass index) before becoming pregnant with one baby:
- Underweight: Gain 28-40 pounds - Normal weight: Gain 25-35 pounds - Overweight: Gain 15-25 pounds - Obese: Gain 11-20 pounds
Check in with your doctor frequently to make sure you're gaining at a healthy rate.
9. Go Shoe Shopping
At last, a perfect excuse to buy shoes! As your bump grows, so may your feet—or at least they may feel like they are. That's because your natural weight gain throws off your center of gravity, putting extra pressure on your tootsies. Over time this added pressure can cause painful over-pronation, or flattening out of the feet. You may retain fluids, too, which can make your feet and ankles swell.
So it's important to wear comfortable, nonrestricting shoes when you're pregnant. Many expectant moms find they need a larger shoe size even after they give birth, so go a step up if you need to. And be sure to put your feet up several times a day to prevent fatigue and swelling of the feet, legs, and ankles.
10. Rethink Your Spa Style
Pregnancy is definitely a time for pampering, but you need to be careful. Avoid saunas, which can make you overheated. Ditto for hot tubs: According to the American Pregnancy Association, it takes only 10 to 20 minutes of sitting in one for your body temperature to reach 102 degrees Farenheit—nearly the limit of what's considered safe for pregnant women. Also, certain essential oils can cause uterine contractions, especially during the first and second trimester, so check with your massage therapist to make sure only safe ones are being used. On the taboo list: juniper, rosemary, and clary sage. The same goes for over-the-counter medicines and supplements containing these herbal remedies; don't take them without first consulting your obstetrician or midwife.
11. Eat Folate-Rich Foods
In addition to drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day, you should eat five or six well-balanced meals with plenty of folate-rich foods like fortified cereals, asparagus, lentils, wheat germ, oranges, and orange juice. "Folic acid is crucial for the proper development of the baby's neural tube (it covers the spinal cord), and it's vital for the creation of new red blood cells," says Frances Largeman-Roth, R.D., author of Feed the Belly.
12. Recharge with Fruit
Most doctors recommend limiting caffeine during pregnancy, since it can have harmful effects on you and the baby. Cutting back can be tough, though, especially when you're used to your morning java. For a quick pick-me-up, try nibbling on some fruit. "The natural sugars in fruits like bananas and apples can help lift energy levels," says registered dietitian Frances Largeman-Roth.
13. Go Fish
In a 2007 study of more than 12,000 children, researchers found that youngsters whose moms ate the most fish during pregnancy had higher I.Q.s, plus better motor and communication skills, than those whose mothers did not eat fish. Scientists say that's because fish is high in omega 3s, a nutrient critical to brain development. There's just one catch: Some kinds of fish contain mercury, which can be toxic to both babies and adults.
To be safe, the FDA recommends that pregnant women eat no more than 12 ounces of fish per week. Stick with canned light tuna, shrimp, salmon, pollack, or catfish. Avoid swordfish, shark, king mackerel, and tilefish, which are all high in mercury.
14. Wear Sunscreen
Being pregnant makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you're more prone to sunburn and chloasma, those dark, blotchy spots that sometimes appear on the face. Apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher (many brands now offer chemical-free formulas, if you prefer a green option) and wear a hat and sunglasses. While no studies prove spending time in tanning beds can hurt your baby, the American Pregnancy Association recommends you avoid them while you're pregnant.
15. Travel Smart
Go ahead: book that flight, but take some precautions. The Mayo Clinic say mid-pregnancy (14 to 28 weeks) is usually the best time to fly—by this time you're probably over morning sickness, and the risk of miscarriage or early delivery is low. Still, check with your doctor about any travel plans, and make sure the airline has no restrictions for pregnant women. On the plane, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and get up and walk around every half hour to reduce the risk of blood clots. An aisle seat will give you more room and make trips to the bathroom easier.
In the car, continue to wear a safety belt. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the shoulder portion of the restraint should be positioned over the collar bone. The lap portion should be placed under the abdomen as low as possible on the hips and across the upper thighs, never above the abdomen. Also, pregnant women should sit as far from the air bag as possible.
16. Say Yes to Cravings—Sometimes
Truth be told, no one knows why cravings happen. Some experts say they may be nature's way of providing nutrients an expectant mom may be lacking. Others say they're an emotional thing. Regardless, as long as you're eating an overall healthy diet, it's usually OK to give in to your cravings. Just be careful to limit portions—don't down all that ice cream at once!—and know which snacks to steer clear of. A few foods to avoid: raw and undercooked meat or eggs; brie, feta, and other types of unpasteurized cheese; herbal teas; and raw sprouts.
17. Know When to Call the Doctor
Being pregnant can be confusing, especially if it's your first time. How do you know which twinge is normal and which one isn't? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you should call your doctor if you have any of these symptoms:
- Pain of any kind - Strong cramps - Contractions at 20-minute intervals - Vaginal bleeding or leaking of fluid - Dizziness or fainting - Shortness of breath - Heart palpitations - Constant nausea and vomiting - Trouble walking, edema (swelling of joints) - Decreased activity by the baby
18. Indulge Yourself
You may think you're busy now, but once the baby comes you'll have even fewer precious moments to yourself. Be sure to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, and if you're suffering from sleep disturbances, take naps during the day and see your physician if the situation doesn't improve.
Treating yourself, too: A lunchtime manicure, a much-needed night out with the girls, or simply taking a quiet walk can help you relax and de-stress—and that's good for both you and the baby.
