Mr. C is out for the evening, trying out some SF/F club meeting. So, it's time to fry up some of the zucchini I couldn't resist putting in the grocery order. 😁
Not exactly how I do it, of course. Cornmeal only, with either egg or buttermilk to help it stick. In this case, part coarser polenta-type cornmeal and part finer corn flour, because that's what I can readily get here. I come from some of the folks who started rolling practically any food in corn products to begin with, never mind squash and the sunflower oil it's going in--and my family still tends to just use that.
(Hell, rice flour is also full of crispy goodness for anything like this if you don't have cornmeal or prefer the rice. It also behaves similarly, in that you need to make sure there's plenty of surface moisture on the food going in and then let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes before frying to let it absorb.)
But, this linked version looks good.
Of course, I didn't mix up enough seasoned meal at the beginning, and had to make more partway through. And then naturally ended up with enough left over to make a few bonus pieces of hot water cornbread. 😊 (After adding a little more plain meal, unless you want it highly seasoned and salty as hell. Which is totally an option.)

Star Trek comedy gag where Sarek is explaining to Spock why Vulcan parents cannot be as close to their children as humans are meanwhile Tuvok’s in the background buying his children two large fries (to share amongst them) on their way back from the park because they all got good grades this year - not perfect, but progress is always to be commended.

Fried zucchini flowers - A typical snack of Calabrian summer
You can be certain that summer is here when you start to see these incredibly vibrant and bright yellow flowers at your local supermarket, fruit vendor or in your neighbor’s garden.
But, what can you do with these delightful flowers?
Well, zucchini flowers are a summer-time favorite in many parts of Italy and there are many ways they can be prepared. In Calabria, one of the most common ways is battered and fried. It’s quick, easy, and super delicious.

I’ve now seen the “would you eat lab-grown meat” poll twice, which means it is time to air one of my least charitable opinions---namely, I think imitation meat is an abomination. I could pretend this is for noble reasons (and I want to believe I have a couple in the mix) but truthfully its existence revolts and annoys me. It feels like a kind of hypocrisy; I mean, I’m sorry if you crave chicken wings for whatever reason? but you’re the one who gave up an omnivorous diet and refused to get creative with the foods left to you. Eat your cauliflower in buffalo sauce and shut up.

Brough mum to the now defunct Common Chefs Bistro at Jalan Legundi, Sembawang for an early dinner. Ordered myself the Duro Pork Chop (S$18+) with two juicy and succulent slices of bone-in pork chop drizzled with balsamic vinegar infused sauce and a sprinkling of thymes. Served with two sides of fries and a helping of mixed vegetables salad.

Got mum the spicy Arrabbiata Minced Beef & Mushroom Spaghetti (S$12+). The pasta looks good to me with the sprinkled grated cheese and herbs but mum don’t appreciate the spiciness of the chilli padi (bird's eye chilli).

To finish off the meal, a slice of local flavoured Ondeh Ondeh Cake (S$7.50+). Three slices of pandan flavoured sponge cake sandwiching two layers of desiccated coconut cooked with gula melaka (palm sugar) and more grated coconut sprinkled on top and around. Although a likeable dessert but I still missed the traditional ondeh ondeh snack.
