Tickletober Day 12: Surprise
(ler!Mike, ler!Fritz, lee!Phone Guy)
Note: I may actually write the "cooking pizza" phone call if people are interested!
...
Mike and Fritz peeked into the security office. Phone Guy was there, getting papers ready, probably about to record something.
The time to strike would soon be upon us.
You see, Mike was planning on getting the guy back for his water balloon prank on Halloween. Perhaps with Fritz' help he'd finally get him!
Fritz noticed him pressing the on button on the tape recorder.
"Now, let's get him!"
Meanwhile, Phone Guy had started reading the instructions on the piece of paper. He sounded really cheerful and upbeat.
"Hello hello? This is a guide to cooking for all wannabe Freddy Fazbear chefs! First of all, you'll want your oven to be set to 350-"
At hearing the door of his office burst open, he stopped reading and turned to look. Of course it was these two.
He was expecting some weird request. Instead he was grabbed by both men while still in his chair. Before he realized what was happening, he was laughing freely and curled up, feet stomping the floor.
"AHAHAHAAHAAAHAHAHAHAAAAA! YOHOHOOU GUHUUHUUUUYYYYS!" He shrieked, doing his best to fight off their tickly hands, moving everywhere they could reach on his torso.
"Awww, are you a little bit ticklish...?" Mike teased, getting his armpits.
"I think he is!" Fritz said, squeezing his sides. "Golly, I wonder what his worst spot is?"
Phone guy laughed and thrashed so hard he almost toppled his chair over.
"HAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! STOHOHOHHOOOHOP PLEHEHEEAAAAASE!" He shrieked, fighting off four hands with surprising efficiency.
"I don't know, Mike," Fritz said, scribbling over his belly. "Seems like he's equally as ticklish anywhere you go!"
"I think you're right," Mike replied with a grin, getting the spot between his neck and shoulders.
"IHIHIHIHIIHI'M TEHEHEHHEEHELLING AHAHAAHAHAFTON!"
Mike rolled his eyes.
"Do it, you won't! He'll just tickle you some more-!"
Going over to his feet, Mike took his shoes off and rolled down his socks. Phone Guy kicked but Mike just grabbed his ankles and put them in a headlock. Then he started scribbling everywhere along his soles, tops of his feet, and toes.
He shrieked and kicked harder, but to no avail. Finally, Mike scribbled between all his toes and was rewarded with a double kick in the face. Having lowered his body down, Phone Guy managed to loosen the headlock and push both feet forward, making contact.
"OW!" Michael cried, holding his face.
"Sorry!" Phone Guy said. "But you shouldn't have tickled me. That was a risk you took..."
Fritz giggled beside him. "Yeah, Michael..."
Rolling his eyes, Michael sighed. "Whatever."
Standing up, Phone Guy glared at them with a smirk.
"Heh... You got me. But next time, if you're gonna prank me, pick a weakness that you don't also have yourself~!" He wiggled his fingers at them. Michael's eyes widened and he squeaked. Grabbing Fritz's arm, he ran.
Meanwhile, Phone Guy stayed in the office. Softly humming to himself, he went to press record on the tape recorder before he realized it was still recording.
"Oh. Ughh..." Pressing the eject button, Scott flipped the tape and rewound it so he could try recording the tape again. He wondered if he could do the same thing to Michael and then send the tape to his father for Christmas. But then he shook his head, the thought appearing too cruel for him.
Finding out how ticklish Michael was would be satisfying enough!

Beauty & the Bieber (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Continuing their signature style of combining childhood classics with modern music, the PattyCake guys decided to tackle a tale as old as time for their next project. In addition to Justin Bieber's melodies and the musical motifs from the 1991 animated film, they also included elements from the forthcoming 2017 live action remake.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — Beauty and the Bieber
performers: Jamie Fritz (Belle); Earl Elkins, Jr. (Beast); E. Michael Evans (Gaston); Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (LaFou); Alexander Browne (Lumiere); Brad Pettitt (Prince Adam); Leah Lowman (village girls); Anita Wakim (Enchantress)
original songs / performers: [0:15] "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber; [0:53] "Baby" by Justin Bieber, feat. Ludacris; [1:09] "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber; [1:21] "Never Say Never" by Justin Bieber, feat. Jaden; [2:12] "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber; [2:36] "Company" by Justin Bieber; [3:30] "Beauty and a Beat" by Justin Bieber, feat. Nicki Minaj; [4:10] "Sorry" by Justin Bieber; [4:22] "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake, feat. Justin Bieber; [4:44] "Cold Water" by Major Lazer, feat. Justin Bieber & MØ
written by: "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, & Joshua Gudwin; "Baby" by Justin Bieber, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Terius "The-Dream" Nash, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, & Christina Milian; "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, & Ed Sheeran; "Never Say Never" by Adam "Messy" Messinger, Nasri Atweh, Thaddis "Kuk" Harrell, Jaden Smith, Omarr Rambert, & Justin Bieber; "Boyfriend" by Mike Posner, Mason Levy, Matthew "Blackbear" Musto, & Justin Bieber; "Company" by Justin Bieber, Andreas Schuller, James Wong, Leroy Clampitt, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd, James "JHart" Abrahart, & Thomas Troelsen; "Beauty and a Beat" by Max Martin, Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Savan Kotecha, & Nicki Minaj; "Sorry" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Justin Tranter, & Julia Michaels; "Let Me Love You" by William "DJ Snake" Grigahcine, Justin Bieber, Andrew "Watt" Wotman, Ali Tamposi, Brian Lee, & Louis Bell; "Cold Water" by Thomas "Diplo" Pentz, Justin Bieber, Karen Marie "MØ" Ørsted, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, "King Henry" Allen, Philip "Jr Blender" Meckseper, Ed Sheeran, & Jamie Scott
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 17 March 2017
My favorite bits:
combining the rhythmic strings and the villagers' greetings from "Belle" with the melody for "I'll Show You"
Belle explicitly giving Gaston the brush-off
the tinkling minor motif from the animated movie as Belle enters the castle
Earl's fantastic growl at the end of "Never Say Never"
LaFou's gleeful fawning over Gaston and dancing on the tables
the sneaky ♫ "May-be" ♫ from "Company" overlapping with the tavern scene and leading into the "Be Our Guest" instrumentation
the Beast's lovely vulnerability during the dinner and dancing
using the crunchy horn motif from "Battle on the Tower" to create menace in this version of "Let Me Love You"
Earl's voice being layered over the final lyrics after the transformation

Trivia:
○ The obvious starting point for this project was Jusin Beiber's "Beauty and a Beat", which Tony and Layne had performed as part of VoicePlay's "Wow! Vol. 1" medley during the 2015 Sing-Off tour, but one song does not a full plot make. The guys delved into his extended catalogue to find songs that fit certain story beats and would blend well with the animated movie's score.
○ This was an incredibly ambtious undertaking. According to the PattyCake guys, preparations took five months, and filming spanned "six long days" (and nights, clearly).
○ All that hard work paid off, though, since they were able to time their YouTube release for the same day that the Emma Watson movie hit theaters.
○ VoicePlay recorded a Beauty and the Beast medley for "Once Upon an Ever After" (2012), their first album with Tony as a member of the group. Excerpts from that arrangement later appeared in their music videos "Be Our Guest", "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks", and "Aca Top 10 – Disney Villains". They also included "Belle" in their "Aca Top 10 – Broadway" countdown.
○ "Love Yourself" was the first song in VoicePlay's PartWork series, which they started as preparation for Tony leaving the group.
○ Layne occasionally used "Baby" as his interruption at the end of VoicePlay's "Road Trip" medley / comedy sketch.
○ On top of their usual studio work, this production required multiple location shoots:
The outdoor village scenes were filmed at the Casa Feliz museum.
Beast's castle interior was the Ballroom at Church Street, which closed in 2019, and was demolished 2023.
The tavern was an actual bar, the Tap Room at Dubsdread.
○ Between the main cast and dozens of background folks, they needed so many costumes that Tony enlisted his sister Anita to help wrangle them all.
○ There are several of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni among the main cast:
Michael (Gaston) played Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.
Joey (LaFou) played Wolfman and Dracula.
Brad (Prince Adam) was a dancer in the final "Mashup" iteration of the show.
○ There are also many friends and family among background cast and crew, including several cast members from previous Unexpected Musicals. Olivia Adkins and Leah Lowman are among the village crowd as Snow White and Cinderella. Rachel Copeland and Matthew Buckner are in the tavern crowd, but not as their previous characters. Many of the other villagers were clubgoers in "Hocus Heathens".
○ This video got a nice write-up on Huffington Post.

Marlene Dietrich and Jane Wyman in Stage Fright (Alfred Hitchcock, 1950) Cast: Jane Wyman, Marlene Dietrich, Michael Wilding, Richard Todd, Alastair Sim, Sybil Thorndike, Kay Walsh, Miles Malleson, Hector MacGregor, Joyce Grenfell, André Morell, Patricia Hitchcock, Ballard Berkeley. Screenplay: Whitfield Cook, Alma Reville, based on a novel by Selwyn Jepson. Cinematography: Wilkie Cooper. Art direction: Terence Verity. Film editing: Edward B. Jarvis. Music: Leighton Lucas. The first stage of Marlene Dietrich's Hollywood career, when she was under the tutelage of Josef von Sternberg, ended with her being labeled "poison at the box office" by a disgruntled exhibitor in 1938, a label that helped push many of her contemporaries -- Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Luise Rainer -- into early retirement. Dietrich was made of sterner stuff, and after a celebrated turn entertaining American troops during World War II, she carved out a second film career by taking on character roles in films by major directors like Billy Wilder in A Foreign Affair (1948) and Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Fritz Lang in Rancho Notorious (1952), Orson Welles in Touch of Evil (1958), and Alfred Hitchcock in Stage Fright. Of these, the Hitchcock film is surprisingly the least memorable. It may be that Dietrich, who had learned everything she could about lighting and camera angles from Sternberg and cinematographers like Lee Garmes, was too much the diva for Hitchcock, who liked to be in control on his sets. But the fact remains that she is probably the most interesting thing about Stage Fright, a somewhat overcomplicated and sometimes scattered mystery in which we pretty much know whodunit from the beginning. Her appearances often come as a welcome relief from the rather tepid romantic triangle involving the characters played by Jane Wyman, Richard Todd, and Michael Wilding. Dietrich sings -- if that's the right word for what she does, being more diseuse than singer -- a few songs, including "La Vie en Rose" and Cole Porter's "The Laziest Gal in Town," and wears some Christian Dior gowns as Charlotte Inwood, the star of a musical revue in London, who bumps off her husband with the help of her lover, Jonathan Cooper (Todd), who is also the lover of a young student at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Eve Gill (Wyman). But Eve also gets caught up in the murder plot when she falls for the detective investigating the case, Wilfred Smith (Wilding). Also providing relief from the romantic plot are Alastair Sim and Sybil Thorndike as Eve's separated and slightly eccentric parents, and some funny cameos by Miles Malleson and Joyce Grenfell. There are some clever Hitchcockian moments, including a flashback that turns out to be a complete misdirection and some skillful tracking shots by cinematographer Wilkie Cooper. But Wyman, the only American-born member of  the cast, feels out of her element, and Wilding turns his character into a moonstruck milksop. (Whatever did Elizabeth Taylor see in him?)

Incorrect quotes part 3!
Gregory: I'm surrounded by furries.
Gregory: What's Fazer-blaster?
Glam Freddy with Mike seeping through: it's a neon hell-themed Capture the flag with guns.
Mike: Piano man is the best Billie Joel song. I relate to it.
Evan: Aren't most of them implied gay?
Mike: Yep.
Evan:...
Mike:...
Evan: So you and Jeremy?
Mike: ANYway, help me with this vent!
Vanessa while dyeing her hair: Being gay isn't a choice, it's a lifestyle.
Mike: You know when someone is just too adorable and you sneak through their window because his parents won't allow anyone over and you happen to come over really early in the morning and he's just waking up and he sees you've come to visit him and smiles at you and his smile is too cute and you can't handle that plus the adorable bed head and you take a step back and fall out the window and when he's asking if you're okay and you want to seem cool even though you fell out a window and you say you're okay even though it hurt and you broke your arm and he comes outside and helps you to the hospital and stays with you the entire time and you both agree to never tell anyone else and it's your little secret together forever.
Elizabeth: I do not know, but that sounds awesome if it were a girl too pretty.
Cassidy: Is Susie's hair made of curly fries?
Gregory: How to build an electromagnetic pulse?
Glitchtrap: You should definitely kill Luis, he's becoming too suspicious.
Vanessa: If I did that others would be suspicious. He's the only one to see my search history and they'd trace his murder to me.
Glitchtrap: You're in love with him.
Vanessa: AM NOT!
Mike: These nuggies taste like fish.
Elizabeth: I don't know what fish tastes like but they do taste off.
Evan: They just taste like nuggies.
Cassidy: I'd like to apologize for accidentally killing 8 people who I thought were Afton. It's not my fault most of our night guards have brown hair and blue eyes.
Gregory: I never learned how to tie shoes! I didn't have parents for the first 8 years of my life.
Elizabeth: I died on my birthday!
Susie: Imagine that happening.
Gabriel: Must suck.
Cassidy: That sounds terrible.
Evan: Imagine it's your own family killing you on your birthday.
Mike: I'll tell you, deaths no fun.
Jeremy: You've died?
Mike: Yeah, I became an ice cream skin suit for a week.
Henry: Mike, we need to talk about your professionalism.
Mike: Bold words coming from a guy standing in lava.
Fritz: What if I drank lava?
Gabriel: What if you didn't?
Jeremy: You would die??
Gabriel: *sigh* It would taste like dirt.
Fritz: Thanks, this is why he's my best friend.
