“You should take them,” Cody said – because one of them had to broach the subject, and Cody found it best in these situations to get his general on the back foot – to press his advantage before Obi-Wan could dig in too hard.

There could be no doubt what Cody meant. They'd both been staring at the ration bars almost since the moment they’d gotten the emergency shelter set up. The four silver wrappers – their seams ironed flat from being pressed into the containers on Cody’s belt – were arranged on the ground between them like grim hash marks: the material sign of how little had survived their crash landing on Hadron III, at least a day and a whole hyperspace lane off course from any place the 212th might conceivably think to look for them.

They’d had mere seconds to fire off a distress call after shaking the tri-fighters that had taken out their hyperdrive and starboard engines. And neither of them had needed working biosensors to know they could hardly have picked a worse place to get stranded. Hadron III had been one of the cautionary case studies in Cody’s planetary politics module: nearly all of its ecosystems had been wiped out by biological weapons during the previous decade’s extinction-level civil war. And while a combination of the steri-pen in Cody’s belt and some Force-powered superheating would probably ensure enough drinkable water to avoid fatal dehydration, any attempt at ingesting local flora or fauna would have to be treated as a last resort.

So they were back to the ration bars. The ration bars, the small pile of remaining bacta patches, and the sleek gray data stick that contained all the intel they’d been sent to retrieve a week ago: intel that would now die with them – along with the civilian population of Morag it was meant to save – if no one was around to put it in GAR hands.

“I admire you, clone, for the work of art that you are,” his captor says with a wide, toothy grin. Cody just stares up at him passively, resisting the urge to spit in the man’s face. “Many of my compatriots believe that cloning is the ultimate gateway to creating artificial force-sensitive life— but I say, why bother with creating a new form when I can just take one for myself.” Cody’s mind stutters, before it starts to spin, the man’s words summoning a horrible, ringing dissonance in his ears. Cody has been heavily and competently trained for various captive situations, he thought he’d been prepared for nearly anything the seppies could throw at him, but this— Surely this isn’t going to work— surely it’s impossible. But Cody works with a man who performs the impossible every day. Unfortunately, said man is still bound to his own table, eyes closed, drugged and disconnected from the Force. Cody breathes a deep and even breath. Refuses to let himself panic. Steadies himself to focus on his captor and his ramblings. “Ah, what I can discover, with the Force at my personal disposal. But I’m sure you’re wondering what use I have for you, clone. It would be foolish for me to test this first on my own mind. No, no, I think I’d much rather have you do the testing for me.”

“Dear Force,” he prays. Threatens. He’s arriving at the bargaining stage from left to catch it off guard. “Have I not suffered enough?”

“Mrrrrp!”

“Quiet over there, I’m trying to reach a mystical entity.”

“Myam!”

“Thanks, Ponds. Knew I could count on you.”

Sitrep. Cody’s currently trying to take a nap. It is not going well.

“Why didn’t you turn into shrimp or something easy,” he mutters, shoving the pillow up with his shoulder.

He’s had an incredibly long night in the Jedi Archives trying to help find texts that might help his batchmates turn back into the humanoid assholes they are.

“Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.”

“Watch the hair, Wolffe.”

Wolffe chooses to ignore him, naturally. He continues impersonating a broken speeder and kneading Cody’s head.

Bly is— “Meep!” - still stuck behind Cody’s back.

Right. Nap.

His head kind of slumps back with the sigh, the stress flowing out of his shoulders like water down a stream—

There’s a rustling. One of them jumps on the couch, it seems.

Silence.

Cody deigns to open one eye and watches as Ponds drags a Jedi robe onto the backrest before nesting in it in quick, efficient moves.

“Is that General Windu’s,” he asks as if he actually wants to know.

As an answer he gets a stuck up tail and a frankly unnecessary view of his brother’s butthole before limbs, tail, and head are tugged into the fluffy ball of fur.

Alright. Time to close his eyes again.

Crossing his arms, he wriggles around until he’s - “Meep?!” - comfortable. Wolffe is still kneading, Bly is fighting a cushion, Ponds is living Cody’s dreams by being asleep and snoring—

“If you stick your tongue into my ear again, I’ll shoot you into orbit, Fox.”

“Rrya?”

“Yeah yeah, come here, you fool.”

CC-2224 blinked, listened, restarted.

“Impairments to performance are within acceptable range, sir,” he replied. 

Lord Tash inspected CC-2224. His eyes narrowed: yellow. The general’s eyes were yellow. That was standard for Sith officers: yellow, not like the color of a -
