Although it does not depict a scene from the fic, this piece was greatly inspired by @fushiglow's glorious work Over the Threshold (is anyone surprised by it anymore, lol?). The part of Glo's story that sees Suguru rising to prominence and stardom even before Satoru's first ventures in the music industry isn't (yet? 👀) covered in the fic, but my mind tapped into it and ran with it — and this came to me as a result!

Hope y'all will enjoy this as much as I did drawing it!! Literally had the time of my life with Satoru's jacket and Suguru's hair, teehee!

anyone want a satosugu swimming au?!

sooooo... @bearhaviour and i completely ran away with swimming au ideas after discovering we both swam competitively as kids (lol). i quickly bashed this out on my selfish mission to persuade bear to draw my silly lane divider kiss idea but… i actually kinda like it?? 🫠

at this point, i feel like i should just start sharing my many unfinished snippets with the world and hope they turn into something substantial eventually... so here, take this wip and pretend you didn't see it! go look at bear's swimming au art while you're at it

‘I guess you’re not as fast as you thought, Satoru.’ The sound of his name on those lips always did strange things to Satoru’s stomach, but the way Suguru gasped around the syllables then, a little breathless with exertion? That was something else entirely. He’d long thought blue his colour, but as Satoru watched the water’s reflections dancing across Suguru’s features, bathing him in the glow of the underwater lighting, he knew. If blue had ever been his, it belonged to Suguru now. ‘You didn’t win,’ Satoru finally managed. At the slight break in his voice, Suguru’s lips twitched and Satoru could only watch them, mesmerised. Warm fingers brushed up against his over the lane divider — when had he let go of the starting block? When had Suguru let go of the starting block? ‘Neither did you.’ Their toes touched under the water and the gasp that escaped Satoru was mortifying. Suguru didn’t seem to think so; the spark in his eyes burst into life like Satoru had poured gasoline over it. When a powerful calf caressed his, it felt a little more purposeful this time. Satoru actually had to bite his lip to suppress his moan. With his ego already taking significant damage, he was grasping at straws when he said, ‘I want a rematch.’ Suguru’s answering grin was positively wolfish. He leaned over the lane divider a little more and it sagged under their joint weight, parting the water to bring them together. ’Oh yeah?’ The sensation of warm breath washing over Satoru’s face gave him pause. He couldn’t think straight; couldn’t remember if their faces had been this close only moments ago. When his gaze fell to Suguru’s lips, he knew it was all over. ‘Think you can win, Satoru?’ He murmured his response into Suguru’s open mouth. ‘I’ll win.’ Of that, at least, Satoru was certain.

Just dropping by to sing your praises!

Split was the first stsg fic I read back when I was still lurking in the jjk fandom. I binge-read Split and Start over the course of a sunny bank holiday weekend and I was totally immersed in the world you’ve built for three days straight.

You're responsible to no small degree for the vice grip that stsg has on my brain these days, and I don’t know if I should thank you or curse you for that! However, other people should *definitely* curse you, because you set the bar incredibly high for everyone else. Thank you for being my first and for making it such a good one!

All jokes aside, reading the fic in the garden on that sunny weekend is a genuinely special memory. Ever since then, I’ve been coming back for the updates, intending to leave a comment every time. As a writer myself, I know how meaningful it is to receive encouragement from readers, so I’m really sorry it's taken me so long. However, if nothing else, I hope this serves as a reminder that there are people out there who hold your writing very close to their hearts, even if you never know they exist. On behalf of everyone who is enjoying your work in silence, thank you for writing this wonderful series!

Thoughts on JJK chapter 248 (spoilers)

Yuji's attack with Higu's Executioner's Sword didn't work because Higuruma's CT faded in the last second. Our lawyer has seemingly died and Yuji is expectantly distraught but he fights on

In last chapter's poll I asked how this attack would go, and 60% said that it won't work but in the first hour of the poll the number had actually been reversed

@fushiglow had feared in the notes this exact scenario with the blow failing and Higuruma dying but I made the correct prediction here in saying that the good guys have their healers ready to save their fighters

One important note: Sukuna said that Higuruma is dead (like Gojo) but for Sukuna, defeat is the same thing as death as he said to Yorozu.

With this in mind + the presentation of the panels (Ui Ui and Kirara first shown in shadows as hype) + Sukuna mentioning Shoko + Nitta's CT makes it likely that Higuruma will survive.

Just like Gojo

The fight goes on with the reveal that Yuji can now use RCT. After seeing this and having defeated Higuruma, Sukuna spaces out much to Yuji's astonishment.

Sukuna then goes through an introspection that was difficult to follow along with the translation. The important thing though is that he had an introspection in the first place. The guy is gaining some depth to his character.

Remarkable here is that he explicitly mentions sharing a body with Yuji as something that connects them. This connection will be revisited in the future and it might be applied to Megumi as well but with the caveat that Megumi's soul had been suppressed the entire time they've been together but that might also not make a difference to Sukuna

We get a new rule: Megumi meaning Sukuna, has now full control of the merger as per Kenjaku. This was most likely the will someone else will inherit he spoke of during his last panel BUT

Kenjaku is not confirmed dead and we don't know what Yuta did to his head

I don't think anyone knows how Kenjaku transplants himself into a new body. If Yuta failed to crush his head, then we have the possibility that Kenjaku will manage to put his brain into a new body. I won't be surprised when a new person with stitches on their forehead appears in the future

We also have new possibilities on what Megumi's future will look like now that he has the key for the merger to his name. He could stop it from ever happening or he could start it depending on the mental condition he will have when he finally gains back control of his body

Yuta arrives with fake Rika and Sukuna himself calls her Queen. Next chapter we'll see how the themes of King and Queen will play against each other.

I was having further thoughts on piercing blood from last chapter. Sukuna thought that it was from Choso but what if it was Kamo instead? (using Choso's blood to fool Sukuna). Choso wasn't in this chapter and that would be a surprise for us readers

There was also a pixelated spoiler drop from a Japanese show concerning the editor of JJK. It was about next week's chapter having sth mind blowing in it.

anyway, time for unsolicited authors' comments on the raindrop scene (below the cut, spoilers for chapter 15 of coanda)

I think a really off-hand comment that goes unnoticed is Suguru's:

“When we race endurance we can afford to be distracted,” Suguru scoffs, “it’s not the same as open wheel,”

When. A really common post-retirement activity for f1 drivers is endurance racing. Particularly 24 hours of le mans. Obviously Suguru is being kind of an asshole here talking down on endurance, but he's an idiot, don't listen to him. but he says: when. As in, when he retires, he's going to keep racing. he cant see a future without it. not particularly important, and not the main focus of the scene, but worth noting that, at this point, suguru sees himself racing for a long time, even after retirement from g1.

Then he groans. “That’s like, the third time my raindrop has merged with the one it’s supposed to be racing, are you kidding?” 

Suguru is Satoru's third teammate in g1. First Toji, then Mei Mei, now Suguru.

“You’re picking the wrong raindrops,” Suguru laughs, “you’re just bad at it.” 

Satoru’s eyes refocus on a raindrop in the top corner of the window. “I’ve never been bad at anything, look.” 

Satoru, up until this point, hasn't really gotten on with either of his teammates. Whether its outright disgust, like with Toji, or a quiet distaste like with Mei Mei, Satoru has just been unlucky. He feels like he's seperated from his peers on the grid by his age and attitude, and this time, he's picked his teammate (we get more into it later, but he basically pushed yaga for suguru, specifically). His teammate is his best friend. So this time, his talent won't swallow his teammate whole like it has with the previous two teammates. he genuinely believes their relationship is strong enough to withstand the ordeal of being teammates, and that suguru is more than talented enough to avoid being overshadowed by him (to some extent, satoru is right, but that's for the sequel and fan impressions of getou, which likely will only just be touched on in coanda).

They both watch as the raindrop trickles down, down, down-

And merges into one big blob midway through its descent. 

If you've ever played this game, you might be aware that after a few times, the raindrops will take a pre-determined route down the window because a path has been created. So if you keep picking the same raindrop, it'll keep merging because the path is already set (at least, the path of least resistance).

suguru and satoru are kind of destined to blow up badly. their communication is awful, suguru is actively hiding his struggles and the fact that he knows satoru is in love with him, and just how badly he wants to win to make up for said suffering. they're already misunderstanding each other constantly. there are a few catalysts: riko's death, the way the higher-ups deal with it, haibara's injury, but sooner or later, these two would have clashed in a pretty awful way.

and that's what this silly offhand scene represents. :)

@uotuok - the way they draw soft and sleepy satosugu just warms my heart. I love it SO much. These boys need more cuddles!!! And the colours they use?!? It's such a beautiful art style I adore it.

Ahhh, I'll have to disappoint you, though, because you might be misremembering 😅 (I don't have an analysis post on 236).

But! I'll use this opportunity to plug a few things:

I use #my jjk thoughts tag for both my serious meta analyses and also my jjk shitposts/jokes (so it's a fun mix!)

I use #other people's thoughts for reblogs of analyses I find interesting

And I'm not sure which specific post you're thinking of (sorry!!) but one of my very favorite people did a post on Gojo's characterization (and reader reactions) in 236 (Just go and follow @fushiglow already and consume all of their beautiful fic and art and meta)

Actually, I don't have much analysis on Gojo at all (which is interesting because I have a LOT of opinions on him.) I've made short posts about his relationship with Megumi and one relating to my strongly held belief that Gojo cares a lot about his students and their ability to be young and have fun. But maybe I'll have to set aside some time to write out some of my Gojo opinions. (Spoiler: he's flawed and complicated, but imo consistently unfairly treated in-universe and out.)

Most of my in-depth analysis has been on Geto's feelings about Gojo, because (for some reason) I tend to see a lot of people interpreting Geto as callous and unloving towards Gojo (especially in relation to how much Gojo loves Geto), and I really believe they both deeply love each other but experience and act on their love in very different ways. So that's been my soapbox issue again and again and again.
