@rowancarey Throwback Thursday to this large commission I completed in 2018. This was a really fun one to paint, I’d like to paint some big crashing waves again! Even in a few short years I can see where there would be room to improve if I painted this now. The goal is to always be getting better! My most recent finished piece.🖤 It took a little over 500 hours and it is my largest piece attempted and finished. The medium is oil, specifically gamblin oils, on a 4 foot by five foot canvas. The photos were taken by myself with a Nikon D500 and a sigma 18 mm 2.0 aperture.

With that colours You can really paint lot of hues. You can also trust the brands he uses. Then depending on your location, some brand will be difficult to find so you have to check, according to your tastes, use and what is available, what is the best for you. This palette is a base and you can adapt it with more or less colours if the subject you paint requires that. For instance it happens that I use also some prussian blue when I need a darker blue with more green in and it gives great turquoise hues and I can use also phtalo blue that is also more green. [Post 2 of 2] Carrying on with the painting of Caesar Romero’s Joker, I continued applying tones and working to darken that background somewhat to allow the lighter chroma of the character to become more pronounced. I cranked this out both to test the set of gamblin colours I grabbed, as well as a little warm up for a larger project coming down the pipe. As far as the colours go, I liked working with them, I like the radiance of the titanium white and I noticed the density of the paint in the tubes - there’s considerably less vehicle in this set (less oil, more pigment) than that found in tubes with a lower series number. Anyway, hope you all enjoy the pictures
