@rowancarey Throwback Thursday to this large commission I completed in 2018. This was a really fun one to paint, I’d like to paint some big crashing waves again! Even in a few short years I can see where there would be room to improve if I painted this now. The goal is to always be getting better! I believe that we should all strive for better, no matter what it is in life. Try to avoid complacency and mediocrity. Comfort is like ice cream, a little bit is good, but too much is bad. Make yourself uncomfortable, do something that challenges you wether it be physically or mentally. We’re meant to overcome challenges. Life is like a game, and most of the time you’re competing with yourself. Try to be better than that person you were yesterday. . . . . . . . . . #oilpainting #wavepainting #oceanart #seascape #pnwartist #crashingwaves #motivation #oiloncanvas #realism #seascapepainting #artlife #commissionedart #paintingsdaily #artcollector #artistsoninstagram #artmotivation #gamblinoils #representationalart #throwbackthursday (at HYTS) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPy_NnuAoNK/?utm_medium=tumblr

As requested, here is my #colourpalette #oilpainting #traditionalmedia , from bottom left and we go up until white: 1- ultramarine blue deep (#rembrandt ) 2- cobalt blue light (rembrandt) 3- phtalo green (rembrandt) 4- viridian (rembrandt) 5- transp. Oxide brown (rembrandt) 6- transp. Oxide red (rembrandt) 7- yellow ochre light (#winsorandnewton ) 8- terra rosa (w&n) (warmer) 9- venetian red (w&n) (colder) 10- alizarin perm. (#gamblinoils ) (darker) 11- perm. Alizarin (w&n) 12- cadmium red (w&n) 13- cadmium scarlet (w&n) 14- cadmium orange (#oldhollandpaint ) 15- cadmium orange (w&n) 16- cadmium yellow deep (w&n) 17- cadmium yellow light (w&n) 18- cadmium yellow lemon (w&n) 19- titanium white (#lefrancbourgeois extra fine) @richardschmidart @richardschmid uses that palette and for my use it is also very efficient. With that colours You can really paint lot of hues. You can also trust the brands he uses. Then depending on your location, some brand will be difficult to find so you have to check, according to your tastes, use and what is available, what is the best for you. This palette is a base and you can adapt it with more or less colours if the subject you paint requires that. For instance it happens that I use also some prussian blue when I need a darker blue with more green in and it gives great turquoise hues and I can use also phtalo blue that is also more green.
