As in detail, the students shall possess a curriculum which is designed by the university and the subjects that include in the first year can be Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Community Health Nursing, Psychology, Microbiology, Personal and Environmental Hygiene, Health Education, Sociology, Fundamentals of Nursing, First Aid, Personal Hygiene, Environmental Hygiene, Health Education and Communication Skills and second year can be Pharmacology, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pharmacology, Medical-Surgical Nursing II (Specialties), Orthopedic Nursing, Communicable Diseases, Ophthalmic Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health, and Psychiatric Nursing, Computer Education and in the third year the subjects would be Advanced Community Health Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Midwifery and Gynaecology, Community Health Nursing - II, Educational Methods and Media for Teaching in Practice of Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Introduction to Research, Administration and Ward Management, Professional Trends and Adjustment, Health Economics, Internship Period. And after these studies, the nursing diploma holders should complete a six-month internship to hold a diploma-level certificate.

As GNM is a diploma course, the nurses after getting sufficient experience in a particular job can achieve different degrees just like getting an advanced or equivalent BSc Nurse they can study Post Basic Nursing to get an undergraduate degree.

Nursing is a full-time job that can occur at any time anywhere as a demanded career requires the skill and capability in the field of nursing education and care-taking. The nurse can work in various fields such as hospitals, health departments, clinics, or can work as a private health caretaker. GNM diploma holders can work as a health care nurse, clinical nurse specialist, certified nursing assistant, legal nurse consultant, forensic nursing, home care nurse, emergency room nurse, ICU nurse, community health nurse, etc.

Salaries offered after attaining the GNM followed by a PG diploma or master courses in nursing are remunerative. Nurses working in different areas like forensics, ICU, and private home care, can achieve up to Rs. 4.9 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh per annum.

Salaries also increase with the job profile of the nursing profession. Specialists, consultants, and professors in this field get packages varying from Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 9.13 lakh per annum.

GNM working in any abroad countries may also differ their salary range. The GNM working in Canada may get 55 LPA in CAD and they can earn based on working hours, in Australia 50000 -70000 per annum, in New Zealand 76800 NAD per annum, etc

Nurses have a plethora of opportunities that are waiting for nursing professionals. Keralites or Indians nurses for to migrate to European countries or other countries excluded gulf countries should pass IELTS/OET(International English Language Test System/Occupational English Test)to get an entry.
