Pop-Up Thoughts

The first main inspiration for this piece is @hennkim because of how they express such simple yet universal concepts in life in such brilliant and clever manners. I discovered them when I was a young adult and struggling with my mental health.

A second inspiration is this pop-up notification graphic I came across while I was perusing the internet.

It deeply resonated with me; I felt an intimate connection with it's tart honest message and the Windows 98 graphic I grew up seeing as a child. It reached me at a time when I was overwhelmed with depression, anxiety, past life traumas, and finding who I was all in the midst of it.

I utilized the pop-up thematically, and literally, to emulate my mental space to others. A swarm of negative pop-ups surrounds a ghoulish depiction of myself. From self reminders to take my medication to the numerous error messages and my sleep deprived disassociated glance this is a perfect screenshot of myself at the time.
