I wish there were more restaurants with affordable prix fixe or tasting menus. I would love for nice but not ridiculously fancy restaurants to basically say "here is what we're sure is good today, you can eat that or maybe one or two other things. Otherwise come back in 2-3 days and see if that's more interesting."

#I just want (a) cooks and chefs to get creative or think outside of the box; (b) menus that reflect changing seasons #I want you to have a seasonal menu! foods are better at different times of the year! #I would love restaurants to serve root vegetables and stews in the winter and then spring greens in the early summer #really lean into pickling and preserving; meats from animals in different developmental stages #obviously the fact that we can get access to so many different foods out of season is an incredible gift #(it involves labor and more bodies at work than I can contemplate without going mad) #but still. I think we should be occasionally reminded that chicagoans should not be able to eat bananas in february. #...........and (c) I want someone who isn't me to do all this. #no love sincerer than the love of food

#thinking of dinosaurs and troodontids were my favorite dinosaurs as a child #when younger i had a real full troodontid tooth fossil that meant a lot to me #for a time we lived within a few kilometers of hadrosaur sites and troodontid sites #while wider general area had many sites of recovery for the big celebrities like tyrannosaur and multiple dromaeosaurs #at that time troodontids were kinda infamous for i think the depiction in some childrens field guides and dino books #which depicted like a fantasy speculative humanoid troodontid based on 1980s model at Canadian Museum of Nature in ottawa #anyway would visit a small local paleo center a lot and woman in her 70s or 80s ran the counter of their center and rock shop #one day she asked me what my fave dino was and i said troodon so she pulled out the tooth and just gifted it to me #in little black case size of ring box with padding and transparent plastic viewing cover kinda like laminate for displaying a trading card #tooth got stolen from out my vehicle while giving some people a ride while at university before i got too poor for tuition #later during first year of pandemic owner of my storage unit died and new property owners threw away everything i ever owned #i was homeless anyway lost job due to early pandemic closures and had to allocate any money to insulin and other prescrip meds #but wouldve found a way to save my things if the new owners had contacted me #they threw out photoalbums y backpacking gear y books y musical instruments y clothes y artwork y camera y all family keepsakes #and all childhood treasures like souvenirs and gifts and school awards and writing portfolios and all the little memories #which i was always sentimental about as child #from earliest age my room looked like a natural history museum with plants and maps and library of field guides #and rocks and field trip keepsakes and all kinds of little animal figurines and mother had painted room in forest greens and browns #to feel like a forest and among the succulent plants and a globe sat the troodon tooth #parents passed when i was a child #never near any family and were always moving never got to settle into proper stable place then father passed after long sad illness #and mother put in so much effort but she passed few years later and i could not take care of myself or my remaining material possessions #and so im still quite hurt having nothing whatsoever remaining of my childhood or school friends or mother or life generally #and when trying to process grief my thoughts often come back to the troodontid tooth as a focal point a distillation of what was lost #even when young i knew it was advised not to become too connected to material physical possessions #but still there are some small little trinkets in our lives that seem to hold so much meaning and i tortured myself for losing that tooth #thinking about troodon reminds me of childhood

#asks #custom cards #amazingly there's only 1 monored instant that gives reach: Academic Dispute #plenty of green reach instants but a sore lack of red ones #this is a straight upgrade over Sure Strike but that's fine because Furious Bellow is too #a slight upgrade #also i'm really satisfied with Geist of Gifts #i feel like all it needs is an uncommon stamp and it'd fit right into Crimson Vow #cost reduction and scaling buffs are dangerous so i made sure to balance the p/t and cost appropriately #and 3 mana feels perfect #you can play it early to start playing good auras or you can play it late to help cast disturb cards #also as usual i had to make sure i got the templating right on Gift of Memories #it counts the total number of 2 different kinds of card in 2 different locations #how in the world is that written? #do you use and or or or and/or between the different kinds of cards? and what about between the different locations? #luckily Beacon Bolt exists so it was an easy copy-paste #ALSO Magic Set Editor (the card creator i use) sometimes ends up putting rules text or flavor text behind the power/toughness box #it's been an issue a few times but i finally figured out how to fix it #normally the font size is automatically as large as possible and shrinks to fit in the text box #but it doesn't consider the p/t box so it ends up making it too big #but i found where i can set the font size manually! #so Geist of Gifts uses a font size of 13.3! perfect! #AND you set the front and back separately so Gift of Memories is just set automatically

Nesting Season Gift Box {Closed}

Variel was meticulous when it came to dates and seasons, tracking moon cycles was damn near second nature. So tracking Cal’s nesting season was a no brainer to the half-angel, she’d seen him go through it before and well. . .it had been extremely rough to say the least. She wanted to try and help if she could, which she doubted but hey. It was the thought that counted right?

She tugged off the large oversized forest green sweater she’d been wearing while packing a medium sized box, neatly folding it, giving it a spray with her perfume before wrapping it in some tissue paper.

Putting it neatly on top of a stack of 8 other very large sweaters, she double checked the other contents of the box. A few variety boxes of chocolate, 5 boxes of different teas, some of her favourite bad movies, a few gift cards for some local book stores with a sticky note stuck to the top one reading “For when you feel up for it” and a handwritten letter.

Putting the lid on and using a ribbon to secure it, she took a deep slow breath and closed her eyes. Mentally reaching out to Cal, it was a touch easier than texting him. Easier on the eyes in case lights were an issue as well

i've been. doing lots of new things recently. am i finally getting over the stagnation period of my life.

#i have really got to get that admin job #i cant go to work bc of the wrist injury thats not even that bad but would definitely get worse with my current job with lots of lifting #i forsee lots of falling off a motorcycle in the future with strained wrists and jarred fingers in the future #lots of little accidents is preferable to one big accident #it hurts but it doesnt really stop me from typing #if i jar more fingers tape and painkillers will sort me out just fine to type #yeaaaahhh really need that desk job #my left knee is pretty bruised but im like #surprised how sturdy they are its just surface bruises #cant kneel on them but i can walk just fine #bought a box of semi permanent hair dye gonna see if it'll give my asian hair a green sheen or what #and a 16gb stick of ram for my laptop which brings me up to 24gb #waiting for a sale (christmas?) to get that 1tb ssd #*gasps* tax returns just came in #i earn enough to pay income tax now thats fucking wild #life DOES get better even for ex-gifted kid uni dropouts #heard some high schoolers on the metro stressing out over trials and hsc and understood what the adults meant when they said it wasnt #the end of the world #flunking school WILL hit your self esteem hard but if you pretend it didnt for long enough it eventually becomes irrelevant #less time heals all wounds and more time makes even the silk road obsolete #if only my teenage self could see me now #'well. not what i secretly hoped for but we're still alive. and we have money now. only mildly disappointed. mostly relieved.' #and i'd be like 'thanks. i guess. i may not be doing my best but i am doing something. and i could be doing a lot worse.' #am i still determined to die at 32? we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.
