I woke up to a cold bed. Rolling over, my hand reached blindly for the man I had fallen asleep next to. Finding nothing, I pulled my head out from under the mountain of pillows that were always on my side of the bed.

“Norman?” I called, not quite wanting to open my eyes yet. I waited a second before sighing and rolling over onto my back. “Norman?” I yelled louder. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I got up and gabbed the robe hanging on the bed post. Putting it on, I started to pad around the mansion.

“Hey.” Norman said, looking up at me wearily from his spot on the couch in his office. “Sorry. I thought I’d be back before you woke up.” I pulled the robe tighter and sat down next to him.

“everything alright?” I asked, hand on his thigh. Norman nodded.

“yeah. Just got to thinking. And you know me.” He laughed as he put his hand over mine. “Once I started I can’t seem to stop.” I nodded as he motioned for me to move up the couch so he could put his arm around me. I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.

“it doesn’t have anything to do with the sex does it?” I asked, worry lacing my tone. Norman kissed my forehead.

“no. Definitely not.” He assured me. “I just have too many thoughts running around in there. I tried to stay for as long as I could but…” he shrugged and kissed my forehead again.

“It was too much.” I finished. “The goblin?” Norman shook his head.

“surprisingly no.” He said. “An idea for Peter. Something I think he can work on. Blueprint and mock up are on the desk.” I nodded, reaching for his hand and intertwining our fingers. “Want to go back to bed?” Feeling his eyes on me, I looked up at him.

“it’s not as early as you think it is. We can go get something to eat then go over the blueprints.” I suggested. Norman nodded, using the tips of his fingers to tilt my chin up towards him before kissing me deeply.

Just rewatched the hedge maze episode and am once again in awe of how subtly yet completely Emily reveals truths about her character in this episode.

When identifying all the options served at teatime, she casually mentions she’s seeing if any of them are a flight potion

Upon learning the pink potion is a tincture of love, contemplates if it could be used to satisfy the wager before “remembering” that the wager requires love to be reciprocated and not induced or influenced by magic

After making friends with the hedge and learning that the magic making it more sentient and alive will end one hour into the event and they’ll no longer be able to gab with one another, she asks the hedge to tell their story so she can turn it into a children’s book

We get precious few scenes with lady chirp in this episode, and well over half of them are Emily saying or doing things that foreshadow chirp’s wife and daughter.

I do wonder though, what was lady sylmenar looking for chirp about during the hedge maze event? Because that is something mentioned but never pursued, and considering sylmenar ends up engaged to hob through the goblins I can’t help but wonder what she was approaching chirp for, and if it was somehow related.

I just want to gab about my own little fantasy world I make stories in. Listening optional, I suppose.

I've realized that the way I'm plotting these stories is unusual. I have the Flip Finnigan stories, about a dysfunctional wizard who is alive for the sole purpose of cleaning up his families mess and then discovers that that's BS because the power of friendship actually grants him a degree of divinity. I have the Frog God stories about a man being tricked into inheriting/buying the most dangerous "goat" (demon alpaca) known to mortal (and immortal) creatures. And now I'm formulating a sort of paranormal noir detective with a goblin protagonist that uses rudimentary divination magic to solve crimes. And another of a princess in exile who learns to become an expert thief and spy to avenge her assassinated mother with the assistance of her illegitimate father and a daughter of the demon king. And a story about a sect of wartime grave digging sword saints that protect the sanctity of the battlefield as a resting place (lest undead armies rise up in the wake of battle). And it's all in the same world. Roughly at the same time.

And while all that is going on, there are larger forces at play. Big bads (mostly like three specific but unrelated big bads) slowly being chased into corners by various protagonists. And amongst it all, in each different story line, there's one of 11 vampires (there's only 11 in the whole setting for reasons) sort of helping from the sidelines. Except for one storyline that I've been very seriously storyboarding for months now, where the main character is the vampire, and all the events happening in in the other stories are seeing their consequences in this one. The heroes change the world, the changing world changes the vampire protag, the vampire protag changes the context of the narrative.

And, regrettably, now that I've realized how central this vampire story is, I think I should put it on pause and finish up all these other stories (or at least story board them all the way through first) before I set any more things in stone. Even though storyboarding is hardly setting something in stone. Still. I'd like to have a complete narrative for the wizard, the demon goat, the goblin, and the other vampires and everyone else before I try and tie them all together.

I really have too many stories and not enough time and focus to write them all out to make sense.

My brainstorming makes a spiral around the table, still entirely illegible and layered upon itself, despite the ample room I’ve been given. Still not enough, because even after sending calls for spare Haethrite and Voltimony across the continent, I haven’t pieced together a design that we could test without fear of losing all we have. Today, though, I have another expert in the room to help. Unfortunately, Ember seems as lost in my technical work as they would be on one of the moons.

Where she begins:

We first meet Andy when she's in the midst of brainstorming a radio design for her younger siblings to use with Ember's so they can talk late into the night without risking the over-policed streets past curfew. And this context is where we most often see her: deep in her own thoughts, working on some device or another made from discarded scraps scrounged from the more prestigious forges in the area, augmented with Goblin technology rather than the extremely expensive Soulvite expected of proper Starsmiths.

But she makes it work. Most of the time.

Her masterpiece, Wrench--a dragon automaton built to act as security for her rented studio space--still doesn't know not to eat any and all fabric within reach, but Andy's confident she'll find a fix for that. Eventually.

What she finds herself confronting:

Andy's impact on the story is instant and massive, even if she doesn't become a narrator until book three: she's the one who gives the others a safe avenue to determine whether Ember's invitation to the rebellion is legitimate via Wrench, and who negotiates a rather underhanded deal with Emerald K'Ron in exchange for her own services to the Rebellion.

She wants an audience with Eternal Veratrum.

She's always been relentlessly curious, after all. And when the opportunity presents itself, she will always leap on the chance to learn something she's been wondering about.

This is how she blackmails her way into the rebellion. This is how she strongarms her way into the top-secret mission in Glittergale. This is how she sneaks her way onto the ship headed to Deltierin.

This is how she's thrust into the role of saving the world with nothing but scrap metal, her own vague notes, and an ever-ticking timer to reverse engineer her observations before the sea swallows the world whole.

The word “goblin” stems from two roots:

Gob - /gab/ - old Goblin word for “us”

Lin - /lɪn/ - a suffix meaning “people”

So in full, “goblin” translates to “the people we are” (although no one would use it like that anymore).

The word “hobgoblin” does not stem from old Hobgoblin, but from old Goblin.

Hob - /hab/ - fort, bastion, settlement, home

Since Hobgoblins lived in walled cities and forts while Goblins lived in small towns and were less sedentary, Goblins called Hobgoblins “those people that are like us, but live in one place”.

“Bugbear” has roots in two languages.

Behr - /beɾ/ - the old Bugbear word for person. In modern Goblin, it is used to refer to an old man in a poetic way

Bug - /bʌg/ - friend

So “bugbear” translates to “the people who call themselves this are our friends”

omg sorry I'm answering this a little late but I have my list! I feel it's worth noting though that, to make this list slightly easier, I made this a list of my current favorites and not necessarily my favorites of all time because omg that's so much harder to think about lol. Also not including watcher in this list because that's a given.

5: GTlive

As much as I love good ol'game theory, the live channel is where it's at. The sheer unhinged chaos and squaking laughter is unmatched. Also I feel like ever since Ash joined (who is the tech behind the camera) they've added an even more fun, rambly chaotic energy to it. Highly recommend their playthroughs of Bad End Theater, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Trombone Champ (which is an absolutely bonkers game in itself). Super fun.

4: Kurtis Conner

Folks 👏 he's one of my favorite commentary youtubers and his series on the barbie and bratz movies are some of my favorites. Also all his videos with Andrew and his video with Drew Afualo are absolutely top tier.

3: Brittany Broski & Sara Schauer (because they kinda go as a pair in this instance)

All of their videos together make me die of laughter, and it's not super often that I legitimately die like that. An absolute MUST is their Zillow Gone Wild series where they go through some of the strangest houses listed on zillow. Brittany's medieval times video is also hilarious and Sarah's lego land video is *chefs kiss* if you're looking for another incredible youtube duo, they're the best.

2: Cinema Therapy

Speaking of youtube duos, this is another great one. It's a channel based around a therapist and a film-maker taking a look at some great films and looking at them through a psychological and film-making lense. Just super wholesome and informative at the same time. They are the internets dads :) some of my favorite episodes are their harley quinn episode, their twilight series, and most recently, their muppet christmas carol episode.

1: Jacksepticeye

Aah yes, the irish goblin himself :) Seán's got not only some great playthroughs and commentary on some great games, but he recently put out some really big cinematic projects like The Iris Project, and raised over 10 million dollars for charity for Thankmas! Just such a comfort youtuber. Some of my favorite playthroughs are his God of War playthrough, The Closing Shift playthrough, Elden Ring playthrough, and his Observation Duty series he has with Gab smolders.
