Revenant Preview Available!!

The June Revenant Patreon post is up, and it comes with a story preview!! Revenant is an 18+ story about an alternate timeline seven years after the events of Hellbound Guardian. It is effectively spoiler-free. The sample is roughly 5.2k words, and includes 3 comic pages and 5 illustrations- about 1/5th of the story total. It's available to ALL patrons! Micro-sampler you may or may not have seen before below!

Imagine this guy was rich but pretending to be poor because he thought that was the only way he could be rapper. His nonbinary swag is astounding for someone who is somehow considered mainly straight despite saying "I go both ways". He is in love with the second worst girl in the show and best friends with the worst girl. He is so cool and wears skirts regularly.

Avery

Absolute loser failgirl protagonist who gets murdered before page 20, and then gets chosen to be a heaven-sent guardian who slaps demons about, but mostly continues to eat dirt due to just being insufferable - love her for it though.

you said that sinners and hellborn dont know how people get in hell, but how do they? does heaven know?

I'm still writing up the post on heavenborn/heavenbound people, but I'll give you something condensed! tldr; Everyone used to know how it works and now only the highest ranking angels/devils know. There used to be gate guardians that helped sentence people but they hold less power now.

The history of Heaven and Hell in Hellbound Hostel's universe is best described in 4 eras and it is heavily inspired by Biblical canon & fiction. These are just rough summaries.

ERA 1: Creation - [Lucifer]'s Fall

Heaven existed as a place for The Creator to dwell as well as his creations, the angels. Hell did not exist during this time. [Adam] and [Eve] were created and [Lucifer] tempted them to fall.

ERA 2: [Lucifer]'s Fall - The Savior's Death

When [Lucifer] and his cohorts were thrown out of Heaven, they created their own realm, Hell. When a human died, their soul was sent to Hell regardless of their deeds because their ancestors deserted The Creator. One angel, called Savior, went to Earth as a human and died as a sacrifice to cleanse mortals of their trespass against The Creator. (This is pretty much ripped straight from the bible 1 to 1 so I might tweak it a bit)

ERA 3: The Savior's Death - The Destruction of Purgatory

When Savior died, The Creator used their mortal soul to fashion Purgatory. Purgatory is similar to its depiction in Inferno, a mountainous path that teaches heavenly virtues as the person ascends. Hellbound souls are able to traverse Purgatory once they are committed to change and eventually they are able to make their way to Heaven. In addition, two gate guardians were instated, one in each plane. These two vet people entering Hell and Heaven and are able to send them to Purgatory or the opposite plane if they believe they deserve a different judgement. The only thing that decides which gate a mortal soul arrives at is their religious devotion to The Creator and Savior. Kind people can arrive in Hell and horrid people can arrive in Heaven. It is the guardian's job to sort these people accordingly. In this lore, people who aren't religious will still get to heaven as long as they exhibit some of the following virtues: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Kindness, Patience, Humility, Loyalty, Justice.

ERA 4: The Destruction of Purgatory - Present Day

In a bid for power, [Lucifer] colludes with a high ranking angel and bargains for the destruction of Purgatory. Now the gate guardians are powerless to redirect souls to their proper places and no one can escape Hell. Over decades, the only Hellbound to remember Purgatory are slaughtered. Any high ranking Hellborn that remember it know not to risk [Lucifer]'s wrath by speaking about it.

I'm still working out a lot about it, but those are the bare bones.

Intro to RAPTURE ACADEMY

(so remember a few months ago I said I wanted to make a list of characters for a fighting game? It has a name now lol)

RAPTURE ACADEMY is a superhero/alternate history project centrally focused around the Rapture Academy and Institute for Superpowered Opportunists, a school thinly designed to raise supervillains. Primarily focusing on the stories and systems around a bunch of kids with intensely dangerous powers enrolled in a private academy headed by imprisoned supervillain No. 1 Angel as part of an internationally-backed plea deal. The kids are alright.

STUDENTS:

Anti (Canadian) - Analog horror-themed hoodie kid with dark powers (makes everything they hit distort like a broken VHS tape), surprisingly nice and wholesome and probably the least likely to actually become a career villain.

Hellbound ("Eastern European") - Princess sacrificed to a draconic ritual, became a half-dragon berserker who spends her time bound in magic chains. A demure sweetheart when lucid, murderous beast otherwise.

The Vigilante Smog Monster/"Smoggy" (Australian) - A swamp monster summoned by an indigenous tribe searching for a protector, can turn into sludge and murder smoke, wears enchanted wooden masks.

Twintails (Japanese) - two students in one! A male wizard apprentice and a female ninja apprentice from rivalling clans that were fused together by a trickster yokai; one person is in control at a time, they swap from sneezing.

IDKYS/I Don't Know You, Sorry (Filipino) - Aspiring idol/daughter to high-ranking entertainment execs with a literally hypnotic voice. Placed in school with a voice-to-computer TTS mask in order to be taught a lesson in humility, is the class queen anyway.

Magnus VI (American) - Indestructible cyborg cowboy built by a mad science firm who can explosively self-destruct any joint in his body before reassembling. Extremely arrogant. No one touches his hat.

Metal Alice (French) - Daughter of a supervillain who died and was brought back as a haunted animatronic unknowing that she died. Is a walking portal to the ghost dimension who can pull out all sorts of phantasmic metal weapons, from scissors to chainsaws.

Hot★Shot (Chinese) - Cocky martial arts prodigy, has fire abilities, up-and-coming superstar. Basically thinks he's the protagonist of a shounen fighting game, is a colossal asshole from it, yet is the popular jock regardless.

Vioelectrolysis (Motswana) - Upbeat mad scientist-in-training who fights using a giant modified fire-extinguisher that mixes chemicals for deadly use, as well as a bigass flail for deadly use. She may or may not be a mutant.

White Slate (Greek) - A living statue accidentally created by a mad artist, has the ability to turn people into stone with his touch. Is missing a face, sometimes paints one on for intimidation points. Mostly an emo boi who paints a lot.

zZomnia (Pakistani) - Phoneaholic teen haunted by nightmares that double as guardian spirits with insanely powerful weapons whenever she's asleep or is on the verge of it. Is constantly sleepy. Leave her alone.

Bitter Batter (N/A) - Just an ordinary girl with no superpowers, but a baseball bat, a silent death glare, and murderous intent. Originally a teen vagrant before being enlisted in the school. The most "normal" student and also the most fn terrifying

Moonlight Rosebloom Powderpuff of the Unside Neverlandian Court (Scottish?) - A bubbly (alleged) fairy noble from a (disputed) faraway realm hidden in a (presumably) magical garden. Wields (conversely very real) magic. It's very pink.

Ryvr Sticks (Ukrainian) - A scarecrow infected with a paranatural fungi giving him sapience, regeneration abilities, and hallucinogenic powers. Indisputably the class clown and source of gossip. Is a wicked breakdancer.

FACULTY:

No.1 Angel (███) - Headmaster, part-time supervillain, full-time asshole. thinks he's a superhero who deserves to protect humanity but then gave another superhero cancer using his light manipulation powers for trying to stop him.

Panopticon (███) - head of security, a silent dude in black armor and an old-timey diving helmet who sometimes appears unacknowledged to stare at everyone in class, in hallways, or off campus. Powers unknown.

Señor Heartpuncher (Mexican) - Teacher of self-defense. Retired lucha-themed super with a long history of being a hero, but once had a heel-turn and became teacher because he owed a favor to No.1 Angel. has the ability to absorb and reflect kinetic force, perfect for teaching kids how to hit punches then tank them

Drill Instructor Friday (Brazilian) - Teacher of phys ed. Acts like the scariest and most intense drill instructor you can think of. She's also a genuine werewolf. Comes up with some of the funniest PG-13-level insults imaginable and then punishes you for laughing at them.

OfOz (Haitian) - Teacher of paranatural arts (magic, anomalies, anything "supernatural"). Pretty chill and charismatic expert in the field, is able to split his soul/body separately. Only one half of him is teaching classes, other half is doing supervillainy elsewhere in the world.

DDDD (South Korean) - Teacher of technology arts. Is the head of a megacorp developing devices for supers, mostly villains. Teaches remotely from the other side of the world using a mini-mech suit that she pilots from her office. It has weapons. She forgets this. Frequently rants about her competitors and has to be reminded by her secretary to stay on topic.

Sir SPECTACULAR!!! (Swiss) and The Virtuoso (German) - Teacher and assistant teachers of theatrics (getting students to figure out their gimmicks/brand/performances as supers). They used to commit "theatre crimes" together with SPECTACULAR!!!'s super-conductor powers and Virtuoso's super-VR tech, turning cities into musicals. After turning the state of Oklahoma into a musical, they've settled down teaching kids and enjoy it.

Mr. Professor Von Ruin (Austrian) - "Teacher" of ethics (the legalities and philosophies of being a super). he is actually a cat. a super-intelligent, talking cat, pet of a supervillain, but a cat. he doesn't really teach, so his period's just a free block.

Miss Brutalist (Swedish) - Teacher of logistics (resourcing and management of being a super). No powers, actually runs a business designing HQs and lairs for various supers. Most of her assignments involve getting students to do paperwork for her projects.

Dr. Infinity-Plus (Hungarian) - Teacher of general sciences and maths. Has incredible foresight/caculation abilities, which drove him... not quite "insane" but very jaded, paranoid, and antsy. Will often derail classes to vent about existentially terrifying concepts. wears a Rubik's cube-like helmet to dampen his mind.

Sewn Chaos (Azerbaijani) - Teacher of home economics. Former career super before using her textile-manipulation powers to design costumes for others, helps the kids figure out their costumes. genuinely like everyone's favorite grandma up until she shares stories of all the f'd up villains she worked with. Good times!

DREADNAUT (Russian) - Head librarian. Ghostly cosmonaut afflicted by paranatural forces while on the moon, now has gravity powers but is stuck in a fugue state. manages the school's library containing vast resources... which is constructed upside-down in order to make it harder for kids to access.

Gutwrencher (Czech) - Head nurse. A zombie in all but name, has a flesh-mending/regeneration factor she can use to heal herself and others. Is constructed out of various necrotic body parts and stitching that often come apart at inconvenient times. Some students are attracted to her and don't know why.

Mr. BRB (Italian) - Head janitor (and also the only one). He's a necromancer who summons ghouls to help do the cleaning for him but often still leaves things dirty. Mostly chills out in his office to record his personal podcasts and offer advice to kids who ask nicely.

Often the hardest parts about giving up the things you love most revolves around a lack of alternatives to fill the void. AU 1: HEAVENSENT In this AU, Calliope was not caught with Joyoki. She was wed to him, however, once she found she was with child, she tricked Malakiel into thinking it was his. Calliope birthed the child, left it in heaven, and then fled to Hell to live with her lover, however, they were both slain during extermination. In this AU, she was raised in Heaven by Malakiel and the Seraphim.

AU 2: HELLBOUND

In this AU, Calliope was caught with Joyoki in the human realm and he was killed by Malakiel and sentenced to Hell. Calliope is locked in heaven, but she is able to hide her pregnancy with her heavenly powers, escape from Heaven, and give her baby to her lover before returning to Hell, knowing she would be punished severely. Calliope is currently locked in Limbo. In this AU, Harper was raised in Hell by her father before he died during an extermination day. She was told the truth of her birth mother as he bled out. Realizing her powers, she eventually learned to teleport, even able to open portals to other Rings and Earth. AU 3: GUILT TRIP Has the same start as AU 1, however, during her residence in heaven, Michael, of whom she was well acquainted, became possessed by Roo. In order to drive her out, she sacrificed herself and took the demon on her, before killing herself, banishing Roo back to Hell. Lucifer, however, came across her drifting soul, and gave her a body, since her soul was half-human and half-angel, she had no body yet could not die. He gave her a special form. She can shape-shift from a fun-sized version of herself, three feet, with button eye-like irises and pink cheeks. When she is her normal size, which is about five foot two, she still has her pink cheeks, like Lucifers, but her eyes are just black instead of buttons, with x's in her irises. She has stitch marks around her wrists, neck and ankles. Her demon form is seven feet tall, with an elongated neck, stitched covering her body and face like patchwork, braided, cotton like hair that looks like woolen snakes, and large button eyes, with a threaded tail.

Fragments of that untold ebb and flow against the bay, disjointed and drown out by wafting sea foam and the gulls overhead. Teasing whispers echo amongst crumbling ruins of what was once a bustling hub of a port town etched into the rolling hillside. And yet, out of all these curiosities, the most uncanny would be found tucked away inside a little burgundy-bound book that just can’t seem to stay away. [Hellbound!AU]

It had been a simple curiosity, just something that had caught his eye as he was exploring through the remains of the port town, letting his curiosity guide his hand as he rummaged and examined the scarred and twisted wood of a building, piecing together the scarred remains of the buildings and surrounding land, painting a picture of a gruesome battle that had left its mark forever dug into the skin of the land, a mark that would never heal, and was lost to the fabric of time, never known to the world.

As Ace was digging through the remains of a house it was then he came across a book, simply sitting beneath the rubble, as if it was placed there carefully.

“What have we here?” Ace whispered to himself as he picked up the book, brushing off the dust from the cover as he examined it.

Ace turned the book over in his hands. It put the freckled man into the thoughts of a journal, perhaps the glimpse of a life of someone who had once called the skeletal remains of this house a home. He flipped open the book to find an unusual surprise, that none of the well aged pages had a single thing written on them, but the indents of writing had been left on them. As if someone had written on a previous page, putting all the pressure that they could into the pen, forcing it to scratch out letters on the pages behind it, as if they needed to carve the words into the paper to ensure that it would remain. Though the tactic clearly bore no fruit, as no page had clearly been ripped out as the spine of the book was intact. It was simply as if the ink had faded and left only a shadow of what had been.

Callused fingers gently moved over the page, tracing the indents as he tried to figure out what words had once shared the page. Trying to figure out what final thoughts went through this persons mind while they had time to write.

It’s as if they simply ceased to exist once they died, like the world simply forgot about them, Ace thought as he closed the book gently.

The young commander stood from where he had squatted down, having lost track of time by staring into the blank pages, almost has if he had been drawn in, engulfed by a feeling that had begun tugging at the back of his mind when his boot first stepped on the wooden remains of the house, having it crack and splinter beneath his boot. The heaviness of the area was like he had walked into a graveyard, quiet and filled with grief and remorse.

He felt like laying it back on the ground was wrong, like it didn’t deserve to be lost and forgotten, whoever it had belonged to was long since gone, but if this was all that was left of them they deserved a better resting place than beneath the rubble.

It was then that Ace took notice of the stone fireplace, one of the few things that remained standing tall, the stones scorched with something black and faded along the bottom stones.

It didn’t take a genius to know what those marks were, they were splattered across most of the remains where the fire hadn’t singed it away. Blood, long since dried and left as one of the markers of the battle that had happened.

Ace walked towards the fireplace, gripping the book tightly in his hand. There was something that did not sit quite right with the book, as if it had a heaviness to it that was more than simple weight, as if the book was mourning something that had been lost. Ace figured that was just his mind trying to put a face to the book and the house, because an object couldn’t mourn. He may have been a lot of things, even stupid in some cases, but he did understand the simple fact that inanimate objects did not feel. Though that thought did little to change the fact that there was something that lingered about the book. As he gently placed it down on the fire places mantel, he watched it for a moment or two. There was a cold feeling that moved down his spine, and it was then that the commander turned and walked away, planning not to see this book again.
