this is so self indulgent but. how does jack grill jason when jules first brings him home (holy shit so many j names)

Forewarning, I know you know this but I don't feel comfortable not clarifying, I understand disabled peoples boundaries but Jack most likely does not at first.

He would be on edge from the very beginning since Jules in this context is one his kids and he never expected Jules of all people to go out and obtain a romantic partner of all things.

So all Jack would see is this lumbering dude who doesn't talk, getting his dirty boots all over his wife's clean floor, and won't even take off the weird mask he wears. Of course Jules would have explained at this point that Jason is a mute so he'd grasp that but he'd make many jabs at him for the things he perceived as being rude.

This is in between him mostly being focused on Jules' quality of life in the relationship, being with the Frost family from the beginning point we've discussed would see Jules' life get increasingly privileged as he got older after all.

"You live in the middle of the woods (hypocrite Jack moment) it's gonna be wet all the time. What are you gonna do if Jules gets sick? Do you even have running water? You can't let him bathe in swamp water. Do you do repairs? Do you have a job? You want my son to get a splinter from that old wet wood and die of tetnus?"

We’re on the train to Transylvania! We got some more terrible accents written in the dialogue and I hated it like I always do! Besides that, I liked the moment with Lucas Brand and Dr. Sun. It’s still building so I guess we’ll see where that goes. I like how we saw two new characters Jacques Granet and Ludwig Gruber which were on the run protecting their case from Dr. Sun. Dracula throws Ludwig off the train and the lettering describing his flesh and bone being destroyed by the tracks was gross and cool. Jacques jumping out the window of the train to escape Dracula and protect his briefcase was shocking but builds this dread of Dr. Sun so well. We saw at the beginning of this issue Dracula “killing” Blade by biting him which I guess is the explanation on him being a daywalker but I think we’ll see that later. We get a hint next issue that Quincy is about to stab Blade which was an interesting development. I liked the tease with Jack Russell being on the same train but not doing anything until the next issue. This was a really tense but great issue that moved several plots forward and what I liked about this was it used Werewolf in an organic way.

Tomb of Dracula #18/Werewolf By Night #15

This crossover was awesome! What I loved was how both books moved their individual plots forward and tied Werewolf’s origin into Dracula’s. It was so well done. But it’s Marv Wolfman who’s one of the best at writing comics. I’m liking Topaz and her connection to Jack. It makes sense why she was introduced now after these issues. I love the idea that she can give Jack control of the wolf form. Great couple fights with Dracula and Werewolf.

Jack’s ancestor Grigory killed Dracula and threw his coffin in the sea and then comes into contact with a woman named Lydia who then bites him and turns him into a werewolf. I loved getting the origin of the werewolf curse and it’s connection to Dracula. We’re left with Rachel and Frank retrieving the second book of sins which Dracula mentions could kill him. Again, a great crossover that was more consequential than I thought it would be and I’m excited to see what happens next! Blade is about to be staked by Quincy, Dr. Sun doing whatever he’s doing, the true origin of Jack and his curse etc. lots of great stuff here and I think this crossover is aided by the fact that Marv is writing both books so it felt like it tied together really nicely. Gene Colan and Mike Ploog continue to be two of my favorite artists from this era and they both killed it on their respective books! Next up is more Tomb of Dracula!

DPxDC Au: Normally when Danny vandalizes ancient cave walls and historic places on his 'favor' missions for Clockwork, he gets sent back to erase them. But no, apparently this time, when Danny added his actual phone number into some painting, he's not allowed to go back and fix it. Ugh.

...

Tim has had the painting of Bruce professionally reviewed a few times since the old Bat was retrieved from the time stream. He's not entirely sure how the painting still exists, he's not even sure that it matters any more... But one day Tim catches something new in the painting.

It was small, and it could've just been the light at first but... Is that a phone number in the background?? It looks like black marker on the black curtains and it makes him feel feral. The family is kinder this time about how they think he's gone crazy- but each one of them admit that they can't remember a phone number ever being present.

The lab reports that the number was added over the paint- and that it's an ink based marking akin to a sharpie but like, hundreds of years old. So... It's been added recently but not at all recently enough for Tim to have an explanation.

Tim doesn't want to hear any more of his family members opinions on the matter and he certainly isn't going to just, stop investigating or something stupid like that. So, he takes the painting to the tower, gathers his team (Cassie, Kon and Bart), and they call the number in the middle of the night after a lot of planning/back-and-forth/catastrophizing.

It doesn't answer until the final ring, and the static that comes through the phone is bone chilling. A deep, monstrous groan which echoed with agony fills the room.

"I have a math test in like, three hours, who the fuck are you and why the fuck are you calling in the middle of the night?" The voice now complains, still sounding vaguely inhuman despite it's very human word choices.

"Your number is in a historical painting, we had a few questions but uh, you can call us back later?" Tim cringes as he says it but he hadn't planned on having to reply to someone trying to go back to bed. Or someone who was apparently also a teenager. (He had so, so many contingency plans for like, every kind of villain, alien or demon. lame.)

"...Ugh. might as well." The voice calls out, agreeing with a sigh that echos so deeply the team can feel it in their bones.

"Cool. Good luck on your test?" Tim offers.

"Mph." And the line hangs up.

...

Danny is at lunch with Sam and Tucker when he remembers the late night call. He'd spent the morning bitching about never getting a full night of sleep and it finally occurred to him what had happened. Of course his friends think it's hilarious that CW wouldn't let him erase his number. Of course they do.

They stop laughing when Danny calls the number back.

"Hello, this is Red Robin of Gotham. I have Superboy, Wonder girl and Impulse present with me. How did your math test go?"
