Doctor Strange XVIII
Marvel Team-Up #21
Tumblr media
Marvel Team-Up #21 - writer: Len Wein | penciler: Sal Buscema | inker(s): Dave Hunt & Frank Giacoia
So we’re back to Doctor Strange related comics with another team-up with Spidey in another battle with Xandu! I gotta say this issue kinda redeemed Xandu for me cause his last appearance was very lame. Len Wein actually gives him a good motivation and backstory with having a lover who he thinks he can revive. This issue also had a great twist with Doctor Strange revealing to Xandu that he killed her and we’re left with Xandu going mad with grief. It was a surprisingly great ending to a fun issue. As I’ve said in a previous Defenders post, I don’t like the superhero vs superhero trope and this issue felt a little contrived just to have Spidey and Strange fight.
Tumblr media
I loved seeing Sal Buscema’s art cause he’s one of the best artists working in this 70’s era. We got the cool Dr. Strange kaleidoscope visuals which I missed seeing. Other than a great ending this was a dumb and fun issue that if I ever do a reread of Doctor Strange appearances, I’d skip this one.
Morbius IV
Giant-Size Super-Heroes #1
Tumblr media
Giant-Size Super-Heroes #1 - writer: Gerry Conway | penciler: Gil Kane | inker: Mike Esposito
I paired these two issues cause they both involved Spidey. Morbius teams-up with Man-Wolf and they fight Spidey.
Tumblr media
I liked Morbius taking charge and using his bite to control Man-Wolf but his plan to get a cure didn’t really jive with him teaming with Jameson. I liked the fight between the three of them and how Spidey takes out Man-Wolf and then waits for Morbius to appear to the doctor who might have a cure for Leukemia. I also don’t understand why Spidey wouldn’t try to help Morbius cure his scientific vampirism? Like, it seems very out of character that he would just write Morbius off as a villain without trying to help him. Look at what he did for The Lizard. He also doesn’t want to fight Jameson and mentions it several times so why doesn’t he give Morbius that chance? I get that they really haven’t had much of a chance to talk without fighting but still. This was a fun issue but I feel like Morbius and Spidey seemed out of character just so they would fight. I guess I prefer Morbius’ solo adventures. Next up is Doctor Strange!

(Tim places a plate of cookies on the coffee table, and Dick and Jason move to take some) Tim: - Don't touch! Those are for Bruce! Jason: Tim, Bruce doesn't want a bunch of dirty cookies. Tim: They're not dirty. (Jason kicks the plate off the coffee table) Jason:...They are now.

Doctor Strange XX
Doctor Strange #6-9
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange #6-9 - writer: Steve Englehart | penciler: Gene Colan | inker(s): Klaus Janson (#6), John Romita (#7), Tom Palmer (#8), Frank Monte (#9)
THE RETURN OF UMAR AND DORMAMMU! I finally got the reveal that Clea’s mother is Umar (so I was wrong) and father is Orini.
Tumblr media
This 2nd volume of Dr. Strange continues to be fantastic. I loved the reveal with Clea and it explained why she refused to return home. I absolutely cheered when Umar flipped on Dormammu once he came out of the Earth. Honestly I think Dormammu and Umar are neck-and-neck when it comes to my top two Strange enemies. I have been itching for a Strange battle with Dormammu since Avengers vs Defenders (cause they didn’t even fight, Dormammu took out Strange immediately) and while this fight wasn’t as good as their previous battles, this was still awesome. I liked the twist that Dormammu had captured Mother Nature which was causing weird weather to happen on Earth. Clea continues to rise the ranks as one of my favorite characters and I love that she really showed her powers in this arc even helping to save the day. I like that she’s got so many layers (more than most female characters in the 70’s books I’m reading) and I thought it was realistic that she couldn’t face her father after she left to go with Stephen all that time ago. I found the relationship between Clea and her father to be so interesting especially since he genuinely seems to hate her now. This arc felt so important to Clea and I think that’s why I liked it so much. I will say that I didn’t get the “junkie” storyline and it kinda fell flat by the end of issue 9. That’s probably my only criticism for this whole arc. Gene fucking Colan is a force. He’s not only my favorite artist from this era but he’s becoming one of my all-time artists the more I see his work.
Tumblr media
Yeah this was all around a great arc and I can’t wait to see what Steve Englehart has planned next. Tomb of Dracula up next!

I think I’m gonna make this a whole post in case people didn’t see my reply, but this is the pace we’re going this season:
Tumblr media
If we keep going like this, Bakugo’s sacrifice should be around episode 9, Deku’s Vigilante Arc around episode 16… and Bakugo’s apology around episode 22.
Also Tsuyu’s key visual for this season was the color page for chapter 320
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and Bakugo’s apology is chapter 322.

At one point Wally kept getting 'nightmares' of crazy potential futures. They were seriously freaking him out because most of them were bleak and apocalyptic.
He was especially freaked out by how detailed and real they felt. But he wrote them off as stress dreams because they were just too crazy to be true.
I mean, come on. Barry Allen actually being alive in the speedforce and returning to be the Flash? Clearly, that wasn't happening.
Tumblr media
... Yeah.
At one point Wally dreamt of an alien creature before he had actually encountered it in real life and he used the knowledge he had gained in his 'dream' to understand the alien in the present.
And you know what this storyline should have ended with? Wally realizing that he was seeing various potential futures. You know what didn't happen? That.
The storyline ended with Wally chalking it up to stress and deciding to take more time off with his family.
Because he's a dumbass. A lovable dumbass but a dumbass nonetheless.
