Big fan of The Sandman but as an Anakin cosplayer, it's a living nightmare going to these conventions. Soon as a Morpheus cosplayer spots me they can't resist taking out their little bag of fucking sand and thinking devious little thoughts about how to best publicly poke the bear

something there - Padawan!Anakin x fem! reader
Summary: You work at the Jedi archives. Lately, a certain Jedi - none other than Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One himself - is spending a lot of time at the archives, though he doesn’t seem to do a whole lot of actual researching …
Some Anakin fluff, featuring the reader being extremely oblivious, a smitten Anakin that’s quite bad at articulating his feelings (we all know the boy’s basically Shakespeare reincarnate) and Obi-Wan being sarcastic as per usual.
Warnings: Fluff!, a lil bit of angst, soft! Anakin, rattail aka Padawan!Anakin, oblivious! idiots in love
Word count: 3.3k
AN: Why yes, I listened to a lot of Disney Piano Collections while writing this …
I have a masterlist :)

Part I
At first, you hadn’t really thought anything of it.
You’d merely wondered why Anakin Skywalker of all people was suddenly spending so much time at the archives. You’d never seen him around the archives all that much before and now, he seemed to be there almost every day.
You could be in the middle of reorganizing some books, and there he was, walking around a corner, looking at you like a deer caught in headlights. Or you’d walk around a corner and see him sitting at a table, eyes concentrated on an open book in front of him, occasionally sighing, nervously tapping his foot or rubbing his neck.
Sometimes, he caught you looking at him and suddenly, his eyes widened and his cheeks went all red and he’d get up abruptly and rush out of the archives, as if he’d just remembered that he needed to be somewhere else.
You didn’t really know what to make of his behavior - he didn’t seem to like you all that much, but why? He barely even knew you. The few times he’d spoken to you - asking you where he could find a certain book or whether you had any recommendations for books on certain topics - he’d seemed as if he’d rather be doing anything else instead of talking to you, biting his lip, avoiding direct eye contact, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
It irritated you, how much time you spent thinking about this. You shouldn’t care - it’s not like his opinion of you actually mattered, you didn’t know him. Still, it bothered you. What could you have done, or said, that seemingly made him dislike you?
And Force, why did you care so much about this?
You sighed, brushing some stray strands of hair out of your face, before picking up another book and placing it on the stack to your left. You were currently in the middle of reorganizing some of the shelves in the third hall of the archives. Jocasta Nu, the Chief Librarian had tasked you with replacing some of the books that had become outdated with their newer and updated editions that had arrived last week.
You let out a frustrated huff when you realized that you’d placed one of the books on the wrong stack - it was one of the new books, yet you’d placed it on the stack of the books that were to be sorted out. This was all Skywalker’s fault, you decided as you picked up the book again and placed it on the right stack. If he weren’t so damn irritating with his irritating behavior and - no. No more wondering about Skywalker’s behavior for today.
You closed your eyes, trying to concentrate, willing yourself to just forget about that kriffed Skywalker guy and focus on the task at hand. You didn’t notice that one of the books on the top shelf had started to slip, skidding against another book, before both tomes slipped over the edge of the top shelf.
When you heard a whooshing noise, you opened your eyes - only to see two heavy tomes hurtling towards you. You were too shocked to react, you didn’t even have the mind to reach out with the Force to stop the tomes’ descent towards you.
But then, suddenly, the tomes froze in midair, just a few inches above your head. Eyes widened, you looked around - it wasn’t you that had used the Force to stop the books, it had to be someone else - and saw none other than Anakin Skywalker, standing a few shelves away from you, gaze focused on the tomes that were starting to float back to the top shelf.
He must have sensed you looking at him, because he turned his head and your eyes met. You blinked, thrown off guard by the open look in his eyes. You tried not to focus too much on the startlingly beautiful sky-blue color of his eyes. Or his long eyelashes. Or his high cheekbones. Or the strong line of his jaw. Or -
You shook your head, clearing your throat. „Thanks for, uh, saving my life.“ You’d intended to say the words lightly, jokingly, but your voice came out all high and wobbly.
„Sure, anytime“, Anakin said, rubbing his neck, shooting you a shy smile and you felt something tug at your heart as you saw his smile. His whole features softened and his eyes seemed to light up, a swirling ocean of confusing emotions.
„Hey, uh, are you alright?“, Anakin asked, walking over to you, so that he was only standing a few feet away from you now. „It’s just, you seem a bit - shaken … „, he said, blue eyes locking onto yours.
„What?“, you said, caught off guard by the intensity of his gaze. „No, it’s fine, I’m - I’m alright“, you added quickly, reaching out for one of the books from the stacks in front of you, just to have something to occupy your hands with.
„Are you sure?“, he asked you quietly, tone soft and gentle, the look in his eyes softening and you felt this weird sensation in your stomach, almost as if butterflies were dancing around. Your grip on the book loosened and you felt it slide, before it feel down to the floor, making a loud smacking noise.
You both bent down to pick up the book, reaching for it at the same time and when your fingertips grazed Anakin’s you felt this weird tingle in your fingertips. You jerked back as if his touch had electrocuted you. Anakin shot you a concerned look.
„Here“, he said, handing you the book he’d picked up. You took it gingerly, but there it was again, that weird tingling sensation in your fingertips. And now he was looking at you with that open and earnest expression again and you felt as if his blue eyes could stare right down into the depths of your very soul.
„Thanks“, you forced out, gesturing to the book and placing it back on the stack, your hand still shaking lightly.
„Not for that“, Anakin said, shooting you another shy smile. You found yourself wanting to smile back at him - and entirely irritated by that sudden, weird urge. What was happening to you? Just a few minutes ago, you’d cursed that kriffed Skywalker’s existence, and now he was distracting you so much with his sky-blue eyes and his bright and soft smile that you found it increasingly hard to remember why he’d irritated you so much in the first place.
„ - reorganizing books a lot lately, haven’t you?“
„What?“, you said, confused. Anakin was looking at you expectantly, yet a shadow seemed to cross over his blue eyes when he saw your frown.
„You’ve been reorganizing books a lot lately, haven’t you? I just - whenever I’m here, you always seem to be sorting through some stacks, or carrying stacks of books around … not that I - I just, I figured … „, he trailed off, his cheeks growing red. He lowered his gaze and somehow, you found it easier to speak without the burning intensity of his gaze focused on you.
„Yes, we’ve been doing a lot of reorganizing these last few days“, you said and tucked a few stray strands of your hair that had escaped your braid behind your ear. Your gaze was focused on the books in front of you, so you missed the way Anakin’s eyes followed the movements of your hand. „We’ve recently ordered new editions of all these renowned books focusing and exploring all the different cultures known in the Republic and Chief Librarian Nu has tasked us with exchanging the old editions for the newer ones.“
„You like studying different cultures, right?“, Anakin asked you softly.
You nodded, confused. You did like finding out more about all the different cultures in the Republic - sometimes, during your break, you just read one of the cultural studies books, instead of going to the gardens or spending some time in the Uscru District - yet you couldn’t remember ever telling Anakin about that. You’d hardly spoken with each other before today.
Anakin must have picked up on your confusion, because he said: „I just - last week, when I was in one of the study halls, I saw you reading that one book by Treama Hillshi, I, what’s it called - „
„The Galactic Republic: A study in cultures“, you interrupted him, smiling to yourself. Treama Hillshi was one of your favorite authors, at least when it came to textbooks on the different cultures of the Republic.
„Wait, you know Treama Hillshi?“, you couldn’t help but ask. None of your friends had read any of her works yet, no matter how much you gushed about her smart and to-the-point writing style.
„Uh, no, not exactly, I know of her, though I haven’t read any of her works yet“, Anakin said, running a hand through his short hair.
„Oh“, you said. You didn’t know why you felt so disappointed, it’s not like you’d ever expected to talk about books with Anakin Skywalker of all people in the first place.
„But I was planning on reading some of her books!“, Anakin said hastily. „My Master always tells me to read more and learn more about all the different beings in the galaxy, and I think he’s mentioned her works a few times.“
„And do you? Read more books, like your Master recommends? “, you asked curiously. Anakin didn’t exactly strike you as the rule-following type. You’d heard a lot of stories of how he’d always disobeyed his Master’s or even the Council’s orders on mission. And though you’d seen Anakin in the study halls of the archives a lot lately, he’d never seemed all that concentrated on the books in front of him, nervously bouncing his foot up and down, gazing out the window or leafing through the pages of the book, likely to see how many pages he had left in a chapter. Not that you’d payed particular attention to him whenever you’d seen him in the study halls.
„Sometimes“, Anakin admitted, laughing. The sound made the butterflies in your stomach spread their wings once more. „It’s certainly interesting to learn more about the different cultures in the Republic, and it’s not that I don’t like reading, but sometimes I just don’t feel like sitting down and doing nothing but reading … though you probably don’t feel the same way, you love reading, don’t you?“
You nodded. „Yes. Reading just kind of helps me to calm down and take my mind off of things. I love getting immersed in new stories and gettin to know new characters and their lives and relationships. And I love reading textbooks as well, I just really like discovering new information and gaining knowledge in general. I - sorry, you probably didn’t want to know all of that“, you said, suddenly feeling self-conscious, fingers playing with the hem of your robes.
„What - no, I did!“, Anakin exclaimed hastily. „And hearing the way you talk about reading really makes me wish that I was more of a reader myself“, he added, smiling softly, cheeks flushing. „I really - „ But you wouldn’t find out what Anakin had been intending to say, for you saw Chief Librarian Jocasta Nu walking towards you, looking at you sternly.
„Y/N, you’re supposed to reorganize these books, not chat with the visitors“, she said, crossing her arms in front of her chest. „And I believe that Master Kenobi is looking for you, young Skywalker“, she added, turning to Anakin.
„What? Oh kriff, I was supposed to meet him for our mission briefing!“, he said, running a hand through his hair in distress. Madame Nu just raised her eyebrows at him, not saying anything.
„You’d better get back to work, these books aren’t going to reorganize themselves, Y/N“, she said, turning back around.
„Yes, of course“, you said, reaching for one of the books from the stacks in front of you.
„I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to get you into trouble!“, Anakin said to you once the Chief Librarian was out of earshot.
„It’s fine, I’m used to her stern nature“, you said, shrugging. „Though you should probably go and see your Master for your mission briefing.“
„Right“, Anakin said distractedly. „Right … I’ll see you around, Y/N?“, he asked you with a hopeful smile.
This time, you allowed yourself to smile back at him. „Sure.“
„Great!“, Anakin said, and his smile got even wider, lighting up his whole face. The butterflies in your stomach were back in full swing and you felt blood rushing to your cheeks.
„I’ll see you around, goodbye, Y/N!“
„Goodbye, Anakin“, you replied, still smiling.
The smile wouldn’t leave your face, even as you watched him walk away from you.
Tumblr media
„- you didn’t hear anything of what I just said to you, did you, Anakin?“ Obi-Wan sighed, causing Anakin to look up distractedly.
„What?“, he said and Obi-Wan just shook his head. „I’m sorry, Master“, Anakin added instinctively, because after spending so many years as Obi-Wan’s Padawan, he’d come to recognize the tone his Master had just used as the tone that signaled an incoming lecture or reprimand. Though, most times, it was both of these things at once.
Sometimes, Anakin wondered why Obi-Wan still put up with him - Anakin was impulsive and reckless, where Obi-Wan was thoughtful and almost never let his emotions control him, and most importantly, Anakin wasn’t very good at following direct orders, which often put him at odds with his Master.
„You seem awfully distracted lately“, Obi-Wan said, thoughtfully stroking his beard and Anakin avoided his Master’s questioning gaze, focusing his eyes on the book in his lap instead. It was Treama Hillshi’s The Galactic Republic: A study in cultures, which he’d borrowed from the archives right before departing on his recent mission with Obi-Wan. He hadn’t read much of it though, seeing how he and Obi-Wan had spent the last week battling Separatists on one of the planets in the Outer Rim.
But the book reminded him of you - and the first real conversation he’d had with you - , so he’d set himself the goal to read one chapter each night before going to bed. And though he’d sat down each night to read, he couldn’t really remember much of what he’d read - something about Neimoidians, Wookies, Zabraks and Geonosians, but that was as much as he could recollect. Because every time he’d opened the book, his conversation with you had started replaying in his mind.
And though it was interesting to find out more about Gands or Dugs, every time he’d tried to focus on the pages in front of him, his mind had started to wander, recalling the way you’d smiled shyly at him or the way your eyes had taken on this faraway look when you’d talked about how much you loved reading. He felt as if he could talk to you, or just listen to you talk about topics that interested you, all day.
Your shy laugh had become his favorite sound in the whole galaxy, and he wanted to make you laugh again. (He wanted to make you laugh everyday, and talk about books with you every day.) He just wanted to spend more time with you, get to know you better.
If only he hadn’t been sent on a mission to the Outer Rims with his Master. It’d been nearly two weeks since you talked, and he was starting to fear that you’d completely forgotten about your conversation. Though you’d smiled when he’d said that he’d see you around, so that had to count for something, didn’t it?
He’d tried interpreting your force presence, but for the better part of your conversation you’d just seemed extremely confused. He couldn’t decide whether he should take this as a good or a bad sign. Maybe he’d been too forward with his questions, irritating you and you’d only smiled when he’d said that he’d see you around in order to get rid of him?
„Anakin.“ Obi-Wan’s defeated sigh pulled him out of his thoughts.
„Sorry Master“, he said again, blood rushing to his cheeks. He wasn't trying to be this distracted all the time, but you were nearly all he could think about. Ever since he’d first seen you at the archives a few weeks ago, he’d been working up the courage to finally talk to you - really talk to you, not just ask you where he could find a certain book - and now that he’d finally found the courage to talk to you, you’d been haunting his every dream.
Before talking to you, it had just been an infatuation, he’d thought that you were beautiful and you also seemed to be quite smart and easy to talk to. But now that he’d actually talked to you -
„Perhaps some meditation would help you … to cool your thoughts and calm down your mind“, Obi-Wan suggested.
Anakin nodded. „Yes, of course, Master.“ Though he enjoyed teasing his Master and testing his limits, he didn’t want to irritate Obi-Wan even further. And maybe some meditation would actually do him some good -  maybe he could finally stop worrying over what he’d say to you once you saw each other again.
So het got up and walked over to his Master, sitting down next to him. Obi-Wan gave his Padawan another questioning look, before he sighed and closed his eyes.
„Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin“, was all he said.
„Yes, Master“, Anakin said automatically and Obi-Wan sighed. At some point in time, Anakin had stopped counting how often Obi-Wan had said these words to him. Anakin knew why his Master always reprimanded him about his thoughts being too loud, his emotions having too much control over him: Anakin was impulsive and emotional and that wasn’t the Jedi way. He was supposed to be rational and mindful, and have control over his emotions.
Instead, in the eyes of the other Jedi, het let his emotions control him.
The first thing he’d learned during his first days at the Jedi temple were that forming attachments meant developing fear of losing the things he was attached to, and that fear was the path to the dark side. But Anakin had never fully understood what good suppressing his emotions was supposed to do.
What was so bad about loving other people, caring about them and always wanting to be there for them? What could be so bad about his heart skipping a beat when you’d smiled shyly at him?
Obi-Wan sighed again and Anakin knew that his force presence was still all over the place, his thoughts still too loud. He didn’t particularly care, but he really didn’t feel like receiving another lecture from his Master. So he tried his best to calm his mind, quiet his thoughts and stop thinking about you.
It didn’t particularly work though - as soon as he closed his eyes, his mind conjured up an image of your face. The glow your eyes had taken on when you’d talked about how much you loved reading. The blush spreading over your cheeks when his fingertips had grazed yours, after you’d both bent down to pick up the book that had slid out of your grasp.
Obi-Wan didn’t call Anakin out for his thoughts being too loud again. Anakin wasn’t entirely sure why. Perhaps his Master thought him a lost case. Perhaps Obi-Wan had given up on trying to lecture Anakin about this.
„We’ll be arriving back at Coruscant tomorrow afternoon“, was all his Master said when he got up a few minutes later. He looked at Anakin, stroking his beard. „Perhaps being back at the Jedi temple will help you with your … distractedness … „

Kix: On a scale of one to ten how would you rate your pain?
Anakin: Physical? Or emotional?
Kix: General please.
Anakin: Honestly Kix, I’m fine!
Rex: Well then, let’s go! *Slaps shoulder hard*
Anakin: *passes out*
Rex: You’re welcome.
Kix: So I guess that was a ten.

Ashoka: *smirks* hey master, check this out! *pointing at spare clone armors in the storage room* Wanna see if you can blend in with the vod?
Anakin: Woah that sounds like fun. Yeah. I’m gonna do it. *getting dressed with impossible speed*
Rex, staring at the obviously-not-general trooper reporting to duty in a clumsy way:
Anakin as trooper: *shouting unnecessarily loud* Any orders? Sir!!
Rex:
Rex, innerly: this is way above my pay grade, not that i’m getting paid anyway…

After years and years I am upset of Anakin telling Ahsoka she would not have made it as Obi-Wan's padawan.
EXCUSE ME?!?!?!
Excuse me Mr. Skywalker. Do you remember WHO trained your own sorry ass?
But at the same time I am upset of those words because it is a sign of it that Anakin does not really know Obi-Wan and his personality and is missjudging it.

Can someone please explain to me how in the name of God Palpatine was even able to gain so much access to Anakin? It's implied he's been keeping him close since Phantom Menace. Like I can understand after he's been knighted but as a padawan???? And not just ANY padawan but the notoriously unstable, taken-in-far-too-late-trained-by-a-barely-qualified-freshly-knighted-king-of-sass-and-oh-btw-we-think-he's-the-chosen-one padawan?? That one??? Surely there must have been parameters in place to protect Jedi children from just this sort of manipulation???? Not to mention keeping a close eye on this one in particular???
Like if it weren't so sad it would be (and admittedly is) hilarious how oblivious everyone is.
Like just imagine fucking Yoda and Mace chilling and thinking to themselves "Hmm where's that boy Anakin, you know the one we really did not think it would be a good idea to train lmao" and someone just cheerfully reasssures them "Oh don't worry his kindly pseudograndpa who is definitely not grooming him has taken him to the Opera! For cultural enrichment" Like??? Honestly I know no one suspects Palpatine is a Sith, but he's sure as hell a creepy old politician with a propensity for hanging around little boys. How is no one's alarm bells ringing?? How are the pedophilia accusations not pouring in??

I think what attracts me so intently to prequels era content is the hope for a happy ending but the knowledge that it will never happen. Every time I see Clone Wars I think of how much happiness these characters deserve, everytime I rewatch Revenge of the Sith I think Anakin won't fall this time. I'm just as devastated every single time.

Obi-Wan: All right you did not die today, I call that an unqualified success!
Anakin: I think we are very qualified!
Ahsoka: Very, very qualified!
Obi-Wan: Sure. Just like, say, that rock over there.
Anakin: Now that was just rude.
Obi-Wan: Yes, you’re right. I am terribly sorry rock.

I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted, but I had to come back on here and acknowledge…
for the first time in 20 years
Force ghost anakin skywalker appeared on screen
In a real star war
and somehow I was not expecting it at all and it was like I was suddenly emotionally body-checked by a Feelings Linebacker
Yes, yes I cried during the 5th so and haven’t been able to watch it again, it was so good… but this… this fucking avatar of mine became so core to my online personality for so many goddamn years. It’s been my phone background, my desktop background, my pop socket had one on there for a while… sometimes I forget that there are people out there on twitter and other apps that don’t know me with that avatar as an identity
And I haven’t been very Star Wars-y this year, I’ve been so stressed about my horse and her illness and other dumb stuff happening in my life… and for a minute there, when he popped up in the corner of my eye at the bottom of the screen, I didn’t understand why I felt like I’d been hit by a small train. It took a moment for my brain to catch up.
So I thought I’d celebrate this little milestone with y’all, because you’re the only ones who’d really understand. It feels like a wholeass goddamn stone door just closed on a chapter of my life. Fucking wild. It all comes back around.
