Glad to have made it to #Atlanta for the little sisters #graduation. The commencement speaker not only graduated 13 years ago, but she came and gave back; by making sure each graduate left with a paid LLC and a business in their name. That’s how you change a culture, the youth will one day be the ones leading the next generation. “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a country”- Nelson Mandela #ClarkAtlantaUniversity #HumanExcellence #KnowLedgeIsPower #Alumni

⚜ Nature amazes me, it…

A Brief Musing on Excellence
Notty Bumbo, 2023
I love when I read something someone has created that shows me their aim, who they have evolved to in this instant. It makes me feel welcomed once again into the broader human genius, where I want excellence to be in everything humans do. To be clear, and honest and insightful, to generate the world from imaginations and joys and sorrows alike. To hold back nothing in the use of one’s mind. To be unafraid to speak truth even at risk of one’s existence.
I am always reminded of the great poem by Rilke – The Man Watching – where the protagonist, Jacob, is faced with wrestling an angel, knowing already he will fail. Yet he commits fully despite that knowledge, as “whoever was beaten by this angel, (who often simply declined to fight), went away proud and strengthened and great from that harsh hand, and kneaded him as if to change his shape…” (Bly’s translation)
I have always read this poem as a challenge to existence, an acknowledgement of our weakness and our determination, to seize this being we wake up inside each day. We all will die, but we go on. The Universe lives before and after our presence. But while here, we struggle, create, change. Hopefully, we evolve enough to make our time here a bit longer.
It seems as well that we see such individuals when times are most precarious, when the nightly news becomes vile and bewildering. How could our better natures have allowed this chaos to have gone so far? I then am forced to consider how so much of all human cultures has never been about the future, has become trapped in compounded illusions in reality itself. A type of excellence at once perverse and corrosive, where we are so captured by phantoms of thought we cannot – dare not - think of confronting our falsified and broken natures.
Still, the urge toward evolution is embedded in our every cell, not merely for our physical body, but the spiritual and mental journey we take through time. For individuals who have stepped through the portals of curiosity and intellect, there is no going back to those ancient illusions. There is only excitement, delight, and yes, urgency. Such beings realize our time may be shorter than imagined, our passage through this existence, in this vast and astonishing Universe, likely brief.
Therefore they create, they learn, they keep pushing to understand. They make clear to the totality of humanity there is another choice besides giving up, going mad, make worse decisions as a species. A choice that pursues solutions across all parts of human endeavor, whether emotional, intellectual, spiritual, or societal. Whether we as a species makes this shift – to acknowledge and work to confront our own demise – will be the ultimate test of this premise. There will be no sidelines from which the fearful can watch at a safe distance of such an effort.
And this is why I celebrate those people, old and young, who seek answers to our existential dilemma, one where we, working together as we have unabated since our emergence from the water, swamped in illusion, run so blithely toward our extinction. We need all who seek excellence, who work to refine their vision and understanding, to tip the scales of chance toward the voices that choose to live. To demonstrate the elevation of the potential inside our very design program. To give voice to the future, one that includes us all.

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

i love the idea that Wild is a big brother to basically all of the kids in his Hyrule. it’s such a good heacanon that i never see utilized.
#with their dads permission he’ll take Cottla and Koko on horse rides and they always have food ready for his horses when he comes into town#cottla wants to learn archery to be like him and he melts when he finds that out#all the kids in Hateno have been caught giving treats to his horses#this is a popular headcanon i think but him teaching the local kiddos how to sword fight so often times he’ll be found directing a horde of#children who’re all swinging treebaches around. he couldn’t look prouder of them.#imagine when he gets older and all the village kids r teens/young adults and all of a sudden the village has skilled hunters and foragers#and everyone’s like ‘wow what’s hateno doing’ and the answer is they all had a great big brother#by older i mean he’d be like. early thirties. but y’know ahsnfjks#wild’s impact should rest in the ppl i think. botw is all abt humanity’s strive to overcome hardship and find beauty in the misery#(well. it is to me anyhow lmao)#so i love the idea of his influence not resting in politics or myths or whatever#but within the culture and spirit of those he fought for#in my brain he definitely wanted to rescue Zelda at first and that’s the only reason he was going to fight ganon#but as his journey progressed he wanted to protect and cultivate the future more than rescue the past#i like this idea w zelda too. like not only will the future generation have great fighters but excellent scholars and leaders.#wow i am RAMBLING#anyhow. i like big bro wild.#linked universe#lu#jojo’s linked universe#linkeduniverse#lu wild#wild lu#wild linked universe#linked universe wild

“That one time Barnaby broke somebody’s jaw for going a little too far w/ insulting Wally & almost got expelled <3”
Full story please? <3
WITH PLEASURE!
for those who are slightly confused, this is for 'my' modern human au! well. modern-ish!
okay so when they were in freshman year / 9th grade, Barnaby and Wally are soldily Bonded. they are a set, do not separate. they receive a lot of shit for this, because some kids are assholes and that's especially true for 14yr olds. and it's 2006. so Wally and Barnaby get teased/bullied a lot for their closeness. at this point they're kind of used to it. they met early in 7th grade and have been inseparable ever since. most of it slides off of them
but what is Barnaby was having an especially stressful week? one of those weeks were everything is going wrong, nothing is working out. so Barn is at the end of his rope, and then one of the main kids who likes to bother them insults Wally specifically, and badly. like it's some next level So Bad Its Almost Impressive shit. at present Barnaby is walking to his next class with Wally and Poppy. so Barnaby just kind of stops in place, mentally chooses violence, turns, walks up to the kid, and punches him as hard as he can. it knocked the bully out instantly and broke his jaw.
and keep in mind that at this point in time, Barnaby isn't the big strong guy he is later on. he hasn't had his main growth spurt yet. and he still packed enough of a punch to do Damage - which makes him even more intimidating when he Does hit his growth spurt and towers over practically everyone
the pros of this event: Frank and Julie were watching, and Frank respected Barnaby's response so much that he allowed Julie to bring him to hang out with the growing friend group at lunch / asshole kids were less inclined to insult Wally and Barnaby (or his friends) to their faces
cons: Eddie was also watching and was too scared of Barnaby for the rest of their school career to try and talk to him or his friends / Barnaby nearly got expelled but did get suspended, and that's a permanent mark on his record
so the kid goes down, everyone freaks out. Barnaby is still too angry to feel anything other than pissed off vindication. naturally higher Authorities (teachers) come to get the unconscious student to the (i almost said vet) nurse's office, and to bring Barnaby to the principle's office. they call Ms. Beagle and have her come pick him up. Wally has stuck like glue to Barnaby pretty much the whole time, except for when Barnaby was in the office to get chewed out / interrogated. when Ms. Beagle is done w/ her conversation with the principle, she takes Barnaby and Wally home.
there, Barnaby is still worked up, and as "punishment" Ms. Beagle has him do some menial tasks alongside his usual after school chores. Wally tags along, of course, and asks why the hell Barnaby did that. in a nicer Wally way of asking. this is what breaks the camels back. Barnaby just sits down and starts crying, to which Wally is like "oh no. oh fuck. what do i do." cue a solid minute of him just standing and staring in panic before awkwardly sitting next to Barnaby in solidarity.
when they go inside, Ms. Beagle already has Barnaby's favorite dinner whipped up and ready. She gives him a talk where she's essentially says "blah blah blah violence isn't the answer. however, good job for standing up to that kid. he's an asshole and deserved a good wallop." (listen im a firm believer in ms beagle having been a Wild Youth that would have thrown bricks at cops). Moods are lightened, they have a good dinner. The next day or so they need to go have a meeting with the Injured Kid's parents. that's when they find out Barnaby fully broke the kids jaw (he feels a little bad for that) and that the parents are pushing for his expulsion and also juvie. Ms. Beagle manages to whittle down the sentence to a long suspension and then detention for the rest of the year, as well as her paying the kid's hospital bill.
tl;dr Barnaby punches a kid for insulting Wally, gets a new friend out of it, nearly gets expelled, and gains a mostly unfounded Reputation that dissuades most from outright messing with him or his pals

The recent post really made me realize just how much I love your version of Clearsky.
Dude was super religious while at the same time basically being in a pissing contest with it.
They gave him the most on the nose lesson on humility possible, and he doubles down on everything in an act of stubbornness that's almost admirable in how awful and stupid it is.
And out of all the BB villains bar Mapleshade, he wins. He is such a fucking menace that he forces his own religion to bribe him and then becomes a patron deity of said religion, and irreversibly changes his entire society for the worse through sheer force of will.
He believes that the world revolves around him and only him, and to be honest, I kinda see why he thinks that
Thistleclaw and Tigerstar wish they were half as successful as Clearsky, and he didn't do it through plotting or magic, but by refusing to learn his god damn lesson no matter how many times it came back to bite him.
I feel like, especially in the Current Day with the Events That Occur around us irl, it's a shame that we never get villains who win through SHEER force of will. It's so, so rare in fiction.
BB!Skystar isn't scheming, he doesn't have a master plan, he doesn't even really have an end goal at the height of his power. He just lives in his own head and does whatever the hell he wants.
That's it! So simple! No self-reflection, absolutely incapable of taking criticism, refuses to grow and change. He has a beautifully simple mind. And it is that very lack of conscious that leads to his strength. You can't shame the shameless. You can't convince him to amend his ways.
There's one way to overcome him; to defeat him, physically. To remove his power. Nothing else will work; he will keep coming back until he is stripped of it. In BB he is the first leader to die, because of that.
Even after Thunderstar refuses to kill a helpless opponent, Skystar took his last chance and went right back to war with it.
And he'll deliver a speech about everyone having one life to give, and about the goodness and righteousness of dying for a cause, but that's all just his rationalization. He can't confront the truth, so he never will. If he did think about it for more than a second... he would be the bad guy.
But he can't. He can't be the bad guy. Because then he would be wrong. So he will simply never think about it.
In the end, what does him in is the fact he got out-bullied by a bigger tyrant. He realized that his power would be threatened by there being less warfare, and he flinched first. His invulnerability was compromised, in that last moment, because it was the ONLY moment where he entertained self-doubt.
I just think he's neat

In light of That Episode from season 5, this scene is so much sadder and sweeter and a thousand times more devastating???
That's Havers' swagger stick! He was being all silly and Captain-y and having 'pillow talk' with his actual pillow, but all the while he had Havers' swagger stick, that Havers gave to him while he was dying, held in his hands beside him in place of the person he truly wished to be talking to.
Brb, dying.
