#i do need to be mindful not to confuse the types of witch hunts in english colonies and the ones in my own country

I absolutely love seeing witch hunting facts on my dash because I too am obsessed with witch trial history in England and The Colonies, so now I’m curious as to if you know any funky things about male witches? It’s a history I’ve always been particularly fascinated with. I’d say one of my favourite stories is always going to be whatever the hell John Godfrey had going on. I don’t think he was ever actually found guilty either?
There is actually an entire book about male witches that I still haven't finished but from the amount of research I've done so far, while being less common than female witches they weren't exactly disputed against. I mean, the man himself Matthew was also accused of witchcraft, people were definitely not just saved from it just on the basis of gender. It is however still very true that witchcraft was a feminine thing, but most of that bias came from the fact that it was seen as submission to the devil, and of course, submitting to anything was not exactly something attributed to men at the time.
To put in two very specific quotes from said book, "A man accused of being a witch was also, therefore, implicitly feminised. In one sense, this feminisation lends support to Stuart Clark’s argument for a binary structure underlying the gendering of witchcraft; on the other hand, it cautions us against allowing that binary structure to become too rigid to accommodate flexible gender constructions", and "heresy itself was not sex-linked".
I can absolutely see how people wouldn't immediately think of male witches as something that actually existed because a lot of original sources like the Maleficarum and Hopikin's own guide only speak of female witches, I feel like that's more because it was (and still is) the stereotype.
(it's also kind of related to homophobia: according to a few sources the reason why we know there were male witches was because of people's warnings against falling into a sodomy-spell, but now that I think about it that might not be american-english witchcraft but south italian witchcraft. They're fairly different)

It's not long until Charlie shows up, and she walks inside the Bunker with a wide smile on her face. Maryann has been put down for a nap, and Joanna is content with playing with Zeus in her room.
"Hey, I'm having a birthday party for Joanna tonight. You're coming, right?"
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," she beams.
"Thank you for coming," Sam says.
"Not a problem, especially since I got fired last week."
"What happened?"
"It turns out the company I work for was outsourcing to child labor, so I took a big Wikileak all over that. It's cool, though. It's given me more time to focus on my hobbies like LARPing, macrame, and hunting."
"Excuse me?" Sam and Dean say at the same time.
"You didn't know? I thought Y/N would have told you."
"You knew about this?" Dean asks you.
"I might have," you wince. "I knew how you'd react, but she's been really good about it. She's being safe."
"Yeah. Plus, it was just a couple of little cases. I took down a teenage vampire and a ghost, which sounds like a Y.A. novel if you say it out loud."
"How did it go?" Sam asks, still concerned.
"It was... intense. I wish hunting was more magical, you know?" Sam and Dean look confused, and she moves on. "Never mind. So, where is this Commodore 64 of yours?"
Sam escorts her back to the command center with the big computer, and she gasps in amazement. She rushes over to the computer and begins messing with it to see if she can try and figure it out.
"Sweet Ada Lovelace. This thing belongs in a museum. I mean, it's got encryption software. It seems to be powered by something magical. It's kind of an alarm system. Maybe for global badness? This computer is what locked this place down."
"Can we use it to track angels?"
"Let me see what I can do." Charlie is a master at technology, so she hooks up all kinds of wires and switches that are hooked up to her laptop. "Alright. It took some doing, but now we can download it. This beast has all the Men of Letters files."
"It's a start. Thank you, Charlie. This is great."
Sam and Dean look at each other, and it's clear they want to ask her something.
"So, you've been hunting... alone?"
"I know," she sighs. "Not a good idea, according to the 'Supernatural' books."
"You really can't delete those from the Internet?" Sam asks, annoyed.
"Not even I can do that."
"Where do you even find them?"
"A top-secret place I call Amazon," she says with a cheeky grin. "Someone uploaded all the unpublished works. I thought it was fanfic at first, but it was clearly Edlund's work."
"Who uploaded it?"
"I don't know. Their screen name was beckywinchester176. Ring a bell?"
You can't help but let out a loud cackle. Sam gives you the biggest bitch face, but you can't help but continue to laugh.
"Remember when you got married to her?" you giggle.
"Keep it up, Y/N," Sam nods in annoyance.
Charlie types on her laptop only to huff out in frustration
"Ugh, these files are encrypted. This is gonna take a while. So, takeout, sleepover, and braid each other's hair?"
"I have an idea," Sam smiles.
Since Dean got Game of Thrones for Sam, Dean thought it would be best to watch some of that with Charlie since she is an avid watcher. Sam grabs some books and files regarding what might be on that computer and sits next to the bed to read while Dean and Charlie watch their show. You're sitting at the head of the bed on your own laptop, looking at decorations for Joanna's birthday party. You need to grab stuff with same-day shipping so it'll be here before the end of the day.
Dean and Charlie watch three episodes before deciding that it's a good time for a break.
"Wow. That Joffrey's a dick," Dean scoffs.
"Oh, you have no idea. Wait until he--"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa," Sam stutters. "Spoilers! I haven't read all the books yet."
"You're reading the books?"
"Yes, Dean, I like to read books. You know, the one without pictures?"
Dean rolls his eyes, and Charlie shifts on the bed a few times to get a feel of the mattress.
"Man, this bed is about as comfortable as a brick. Any plans on moving in anytime soon?"
"I am moved in. This is just my style."
"Yeah, this is his style," Dean rolls his eyes.
"I'm sorry I haven't hung up the 'Hang in there, kitty' poster yet, Dean. Feel free to redecorate."
"So, what, our home's not good enough for the 'Hang in there, kitty' poster?"
"This isn't our home. This is where we work."
"You bet your ass this is our home," you snap at him. "This is the place where we're going to raise our kids. There is nowhere I'd rather be, so you better get used to living here. This is your home because we're going to make it our home. Am I making myself clear?"
"Okay," Charlie clears her throat and stands up. "We should all take a breather."
"I'm gonna go get us some more beers. How about that?" Dean says and leaves the room immediately.
"So, Charlie, what was that about how hunting isn't magical?" Sam asks.
"Saving people, hunting things, the family business, right? I am down, but I was raised on Tolkien, man. I mean, where is all this?" She holds up the Game of Thrones disc. "Where are my White Walkers and my volcano and magic ring to throw in the damn thing? Where's my quest?"
"Magic quests suck. Trust me," Sam sighs.
"I'm pretty magical myself," you say. "I can give you magical quests if you want."
"The download should be done by now."
You three meet Dean in the kitchen, and the four of you head down to the command center to check on the computer. As soon as you enter, you notice the shelving units have moved, and no one was down here to do that.
"What the hell?" you say.
You walk close and see some sort of gray stuff on the wall behind the shelving units. Sam and Dean move them out of the way to reveal two gray pods on the wall. Sam pulls his gun out while Dean pulls out his knife. He cuts part of the way through one pod, and an arm falls out. Charlie yelps out and you put a hand on her shoulder to comfort her. Dean cuts the rest of the way, and a woman falls out of it and onto the ground.
You're not sure what to make of this. Who the hell is this woman? She's only out for ten minutes, and when she comes to, everything starts to make sense. Her name is Dorothy, like from The Wizard of Oz. Sam found her file pretty easily, and as he was reading it, Dorothy started to explain why she was there and what was going on.
The Wicked Witch of the West was destroying Oz so badly that she was sent to your world as punishment. In turn, that also sent Dorothy here to kill her, but they both ended up being stuck in "cryosleep", which is what those gray pods are. The other pod is sliced open, so the witch is somewhere in the Bunker looking for whatever she needs to return home.
You conjure up a big ball of magic and shoot it out of the room knowing it will be sent to your kids' rooms. Their rooms will be spelled so that the witch won't be able to get in and harm them. When Dorothy sees you using magic, she becomes very afraid of you.
"Whoa, calm down. I'm not a bad witch," you quickly say. "Think of me as Glinda, the good witch."
That seems to ease her fear.
"Holy shit!" Charlie gasps as she reads her file. "The first case investigated in this bunker involved Dorothy. She and the witch came into this room, and they never came out. This will never stop blowing my mind!"
"Okay, pace yourself, Toto," Dean rolls his eyes.
"Oz is real. It's part of the fairy world," Dorothy says. "We have to find her."
"No, we have to talk before anyone does anything, okay?"
"Talk? Typical Men of Letters, standing around, and having a nice, little chat with your noses buried in your books while your little secretary takes notes," she scoffs and stands up.
"We're hunters."
"Who are you calling a secretary?" Charlie scoffs.
"You're not a secretary? You're a Woman of Letters? How long have I been out?"
"That's why we need to talk. You've been 'out' for over seventy-five years. Now, according to our files, you came here to kill the wicked witch and then disappeared. What happened?"
"We couldn't find a way to kill her, so I did the only thing that I could. A binding spell that came at a price--her soul with mine. I've been frozen with the witch all this time. She can't be killed, and if I'm awake, then so is she."
"Wait, if she's here, why didn't she kill you?" Sam wonders.
"She can't."
"You're protected by the Witch of the North's kiss. It's from the books," Charlie says.
"Forget the books," Dorothy rolls her eyes. "They're not important. I'm protected. You four aren't, and neither are the kids you're trying to protect. Now, the witch came here looking for something. I have no idea what it is, but we have to find her before she finds it."
"Don't worry about my kids. Let me worry about them," you say and cross your arms.
You're not worried about your kids getting hurt because you've spelled the room. Not even the strongest magic can penetrate because you will it so. The only thing that can overpower it is you, and that's a fact.
"Alright," Dean raises his hands, "Charlie, dig into the files. See if you can find anything that puts a dent in a witch. Sam, Y/N, and I will have a look-see."
"I'll stay with Charlie. She might need some help," you offer, and Dean nods.
"I'm helping you," Dorothy demands.
"I don't doubt it. For right now, why don't you rest up and help the smartest person in the room?" Sam says and points to Charlie.
The brothers leave you three alone, and Charlie looks at Dorothy with a shy smile.
"So... big fan. Ozma of Oz--"
"Is a total ass," Dorothy cuts her off.
"You were much nicer in the books," Charlie pouts.
"Those books are the ravings of a sad, old man who is also my father."
"Wait, your dad was L. Frank Baum?" you ask in interest.
"A Man of Letters. Another glorified librarian if you ask me."
"Hey, these guys may have been sexist, but like all librarians, they were wicked smart, too. The dude who was here when you first came in, Haggerty, kept your case file open and worked it every day until he retired. Obviously, he never found you, but if you took five seconds to read, he did find a way to fight the Wicked Witch. Do you remember the poppy fields in the first book?"
"That's not actually how it happened. It was much bloodier."
"Stop ruining my childhood," Charlie groans. "Do you remember the poppies?" Dorothy nods twice. "Haggerty made a deal with a fairy and got some poppy extract. I'm gonna get some bullets from the gun range and make some poppy bullets. So, are you coming or what?"
Charlie leaves without waiting for an answer, and you and Dorothy follow her to the gun range. When you get there, you three work hard in making the bullets. Charlie finishes with one gun and hands it to you, but you push her hand away with a chuckle.
"Sweetheart, I am the gun. You need it more than me."
"Right," she chuckles.
There are four guns with poppy bullets made, and three bullets for each gun since there weren't a lot of poppies, to begin with. Once you have all four guns, you set out to find the brothers.

Effing Varigo Week Day 1: Family
Alchemy Lullaby Varigo throughout the years!
Warnings: none If you haven't read Alchemy Lullaby TLDR Varian is adopted by Eugene and Rapunzel, he and Hugo are childhood friends, Ulla was a nutcase. Ok? Ok.
Part 1 of Effin Varigo Week! Thank you to Batz for organizing this. I don't have something for every day because... uh... depression. But I got like every other day-ish so we're cool. Anyway! Enjoy
“Hugo!” He looks up from where he’s seated in the grass, fingers crusted with dirt and shirt stained with grass. He gasps in delight, grinning with mismatched teeth as the love of his life comes barreling at him, almost knocking him over onto the ground.
“Varian!” Hugo giggles, pulling him into a hug with all the force a kid could muster. “Where were you? You said we were gonna play witch hunt!” He’d read about it in a book, and the two were eager to act it out. He even brought sticks with which to burn themselves at!
“Sorry,” Varian grins, letting tiny Ruddiger out of his backpack. “I had to sneak the judge out.”
“Oh, that’s important,” Hugo nods. Can’t have a witch trial without a judge.
“It wasn’t easy. My dad didn’t want me going without an ‘escort’,” he says the last word slowly. “What even is an escort?”
“Oh. Well,” Hugo stands up. That’s not important, after all. What’s important is that Varian is back! Varian’s back and he’s never going to leave again! “You wanna be the witch?”
“Yes!”
“Here ye, here ye!” Hugo maneuvers Ruddiger around like a puppet without strings. The poor critter’s face is one of extreme annoyance. “I declare you guilty! Your punishment is… death!”
“Noooo!” Varian falls over dramatically. “I didn’t do anything wrong! I’m in-o-sint!”
“The punishment is… burning at the stake!” Hugo pauses. Now that he thinks about it… what does that even mean? He knows it has something to do with fire. But fire kills people! Witch hunts didn’t kill people, right? Maybe they just burned some smores…. “How do we start a fire?”
Varian shrugs. “Doesn’t your mom have science stuff?”
Oh yeah! His mom’s an alchemist! She had to have something for a fire! He leads Varian inside, holding the door open for him like the gentleman mom wanted him to be. Varian grabs a stool, positioning it under a large cabinet of chemicals.
Just as Hugo’s on his tippie-toes and digging through it, his mom walks in. “Hugo,” her monotone voice is laced with just a hint of amusement. “What are you doing?”
“Hi mom! How do you start a fire?”
Donella blinks. “You need fuel, some type of carbon, usually. And the ignition, we have some matches…” she pauses. “Wait. Why.”
“We wanna burn Varian at the stake.” He hears mom sputter in confusion, before laughing. Then, strong arms lift him up and onto the ground.
“Let’s not set the prince on fire, Hugo. I don’t think his father would appreciate it.”
Varian pouts, and Hugo gasps. How dare she make Varian upset! Varian should always be happy, because when he’s happy, Hugo’s happy!
“How dare you insult my prince!” He stomps his foot, pointing a finger like in the picture book mom reads to him. “I challenge you to a duel!”
Varian gasps. “No, Sir Hugo! It’s too dangerous!” He wraps an arm around Hugo. “Let me fight for you!”
“But you’re too important!”
Varian shakes his head. “You’re important to me!”
The words flood Hugo’s ears, and suddenly his face is very very red. “Really…?” He mumbles, sticking a toe into the floor.
“Yeah! You’re my bestest friend!” Varian insists. His face is like buttercups and daisies and all the good things in the world. “I don’t want you to get hurt!”
“Oh… ok!” Hugo smiles. He turns to his mother, who’s been watching this whole conversation with her arms crossed and a grin on her face. “Never mind then. We don’t have to duel anymore.”
“Sorry Ms. Donella. Can we still start a fire?” Varian asks.
She rolls her eyes fondly. “Sorry kids. Not today.” They both whine. “But, if Varian’s parents say we can, we can burn some straw dolls in the fireplace another time.” That got a cheer.
The boys spent the rest of the day inside, content to chatter amongst themselves and play with what few toys Hugo had.
“When can I come to the castle?” Hugo asks, eyes big and bright. Varian has so many more toys for them to play with over there, and the gardens are so big he could get lost for hours! He loves it over there, yet Varian seems content with Donella's little home in the capital outskirts, overlooking the bay.
“Um, I’ll ask dad,” Varian says. “We have some big party coming up I gotta go to… maybe you can come too!”
Hugo’s eyes light up. “Really?”
Varian nods wildly. “I bet they’ll be so much more fun with you there!” His smile turns shy. “Everything’s more fun with you.” And wow, Hugo’s face is red again! When did that happen? Is he sick? Varian doesn’t seem to care, smiling so bright the sun itself is almost in the room.
“Varian?” a voice calls. “Your dad sent me to pick you up.”
Varian groans. “Coming, Uncle Lance!” Before standing he gives Hugo one more hug, who returns it back just as fierce. “Bye! I’m glad you’re my friend, Hugo.” he says.
Hugo grins back. “I’ll always be your friend, Varian.”

The lantern festival is in full swing, with vendors opening their doors to anyone and everyone, along with games, music, and dancing. Ever since the princess (soon to be queen) returned, she took a special interest in recreating the joy she had on the first festival, sponsoring the event with all the pomp and circumstance she brings to everything. Of course, with all the planning and partying, it’s easy for things to get lost in the swing of things. Speaking of,
“Varian!” Eugene sighs fondly as he looks around the town square. Damn his knees, he’s getting up in age now, he couldn’t keep up with his kid like he used to. Ever since they gifted him that chemistry set for his birthday, he’s been practically hiding in the basement messing with it. So he figured today would be a good time to get some fresh air and quality family bonding.
If he could find the kid.
From his hiding spot in Monty’s shop, the boy in question snickers. He’s already paid for their snacks, Hugo waiting for the candy man to finish preparing his.
“You think we can lose him?” He asks once Hugo has his cotton candy in hand.
The blonde rips the floss of its paper cone and shoves it in his face all at once. “Oh totally.” They’re 10 now! Double digits! No dads can keep them down!
Once the coast is clear they make a beeline for the docks, waving in between the crowds while holding hands. Hugo’s hand is sticky yet soft, Varian muses, lollipop in hand. Unlike him, he’s going to eat his treat more slowly.
After making it past a line of guards, they finally reach the bay’s edge, where ships from all over the world are docked to take part in the festivities. “Yknow, someday I’d like to get out there,” the prince remarks, eyeing a galleon. “See the places my parents have been.”
“Didn’t you guys take that trip to the Dark Kingdom last summer?” Hugo hums, legs kicking with each step. He looks like a tin soldier.
“Yeah, but that doesn’t count!”
“Does too!” Hugo’s right, he usually is. He knows a lot of stuff, after all. “You and your family took those big wagons and were gone for like, forever!”
“It was only 6 months,” Varian pouts. He rather enjoyed that trip; getting to know his birth father’s heritage and seeing the world with his parents. His mom especially loved it, Cass so much so that she decided to keep going. She’s home for the festival, but after this she’s headed to Koto.
“Forever,” Hugo repeats. “I missed you, you know.” That part is much quieter, almost lost over the roaring waves beating up against the wood. His face is a cherry red.
It looks stupid.
Varian laughs. “I know, I missed you too,” he reaches over to take Hugo’s hand. Weird. Why does his stomach feel all wiggly? Like he’s gonna throw up, but it’s ok. It’s a good feeling. Huh. Maybe he should hold Hugo’s hand more often.
“There you are, you booger!”
It’s Dad! “Scatter!” Varian yells, a grin on his face.
“Go go go!” Hugo answers, the two of them splitting off into a sprint.
“Oh, you have got to be kidding me,” Eugene rolls his eyes, but gives chase nonetheless. It’s good practice for catching thieves, even if said thieves really only steal from their parents’ candy stash.
The boys blister down the docks, Hugo taking the high ramp and Varian staying below. He watches with awe as Hugo jumps over rails and onto boxes, moving with the ropes and cranes that dot the banks of the bay. His hair is free of its ponytail today, Varian notes, watching as it shines like the summer sun.
They lock eyes, and Hugo grins. Up ahead is a set of barrels on a riser, and they share a nod.
“Varian, Hugo, get back here!” Eugene calls, and the boys pick up the pace. Varian slides under the barrels, leg sticking out to kick out the support. The riser turns into a ramp, sending barrels flying towards his dad who lets out words Varian’s not allowed to say.
“YOU ARE BOTH IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!” He calls, but neither boy really believes him. The man’s a wet paper towel, he folds when they bat their eyelashes.
Cass calls them spoiled.
Hugo scampers down the raft, grabbing Varian’s hand again, and with it comes the same fluttery feeling. Well, isn’t that strange? Varian’s a scientist, he’ll figure out what it means-
They both slam into a purple dress, collapsing to the floor dead in their tracks.
A very pregnant Rapunzel stares at them both, trying to hide a smile but still stern. “Ahem,” she says. The footsteps behind them indicate Eugene has caught up and the game is over.
“As I was saying,” Varian’s dad leans over to meet their eyes with a smirk.
-
He wakes up to rocks on his window.
Sleepy green blinks open, confused, before there’s another thunk on his window. After clumsily grabbing for his glasses, he opens the window to yell at whoever’s down there to feck off…
And gets a rock straight at his nose.
“Shit!” He rears back into the window, covering his mouth to prevent his yells of pain from waking up Donella. When he pulls his hand away, there’s thankfully no blood.
Finally calmer, he looks back out to see Varian mid-breakdown. “Oh my gosh! Hugo! I am so-”
“It’s fine,” Hugo grunts. He pulls his head to the side, and Varian takes the invitation to climb up the tree by his window into his room. It’s been almost a decade without his powers, and yet still Varian is most ethereal in the moonlight. He practically glows against it, sitting in the window with all the regality his title holds.
Or maybe Hugo’s just stupid tired and has a big fat crush on his best friend.
“It’s like 3 am,” he starts off with, to prevent himself from looking like a fool.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Varian blushes, ducking as he enters Hugo’s room for real. “I just… didn’t know where else to go. Since Lance already has the girls, and Cass isn’t home, and I’m not really sure I would be able to make it to Old Corona before sunrise-”
“‘S fine, really.” Hugo pats the bed beside him, and Varian flops down. “So uh. Why are you here? Not that you’re intruding, just, it’s late.” God, why is his voice breaking so much? Mom said it’s puberty, but puberty needs to wait because he has a sad pretty boy in his room.
“Me and my parents had a fight.”
It’s not the nicest thing to say, but it’s his first thought. “At 3 am?” Hugo pales. “Wait, shit, sorry I didn’t mean-”
“No, it’s fine.” Varian cracks a smile. “Uh, no, it was earlier. I just couldn’t sleep.”
Ok that made a lot more sense. He sits crisscrossed, facing Varian to be more attentive. “What was it about?”
Varian’s face darkens. “My mother.”
“Rapunzel?”
“No. My other mother.”
Oh.
Neither of them remember much about her, about the whole… everything. They know how Eugene and Varian met, how he took Varian in after his birth mother abandoned him. They also know about the moonstone, and how he came to have (and lose) it. But the actual events are mostly a blur. Hugo wasn’t even there for it, he knew Varian, but he didn’t see any of it. And Varian was barely old enough to begin forming memories. The only thing he can remember are bits and pieces of the final nights, her haunting laugh, Quirin’s tired eyes, the amber.
But they could see how it haunts everyone around them. How Donella practically throws herself at her Royal Alchemist job out of guilt for not stopping Ulla sooner. How despite her own upbringing, Rapunzel and Eugene have the tendency to be a bit overprotective of him and the twins. It isn’t as bad nowadays, but there are days where the memories get to them and Varian can’t step a foot outside the palace without someone by his side. Hugo’s seen them fight over it before, and it’s never pretty.
“Dad’s always been supportive of my alchemy but he’s never really… liked it,” Varian begins, crossing his arms and curling up into a ball. “I thought it was just cuz he’s a worrywart, so I uh. I yelled at him about it. But…” he sighs. “They never told me because they didn’t want me to feel scared to pursue it, but they kept it from me and I didn’t ask them to-! It-she doesn’t bother me!” he buries his head into his arms. “My mother was an alchemist… she used it to try and kill me.”
“Oh, Varian,” Hugo breathes. He pulls the shaking prince into his arms. “I’m so sorry.”
Varian’s breath hitches, and he wraps himself around Hugo like a koala. “I don’t want to stop,” he warbles. “But now I just can’t get her out of my head… Hugo, what if I turn into her?”
“You won’t,” Hugo insists, pulling him tight against his chest. His heartbeat is thudding so loud they both could hear it. “You’re not her.”
“But…” he shudders in his grasp.
“Goggles, look at me.” The smaller lifts his head up, and their noses are practically touching. It would be so easy to lean in…
No! Bad Hugo! Not now!
He clears his throat and tries to pull back a bit. “She made her choices. She wanted to control ancient magic. What does Varian think of magic?”
“...I think magic is stupid,” he admits begrudgingly.
“See? Totally different!” He doesn’t look convinced. “Varian, my mom’s into alchemy, is she as bad as her?”
“...No, your mom rocks.”
“Damn right.”
“Momma’s boy.”
“Oh like you’re any better,” Hugo grins, and the grin he gets back is even more gorgeous than the sun itself. “Just because you both like alchemy doesn’t automatically make you the same. You weren’t even raised by her. Your parents love you to death. And she hated them, right?”
“Yeah.” Varian’s slowly unwinding. “Yeah. I can use alchemy for the better, I can help people.”
“Exactly.” He brushes a hair away from Varian’s face.
Varian sighs, pulling Hugo back in for a hug. “What would I do without you,” he says, and Hugo wants to propose right then and there.
Instead, he shuts his eyes, and cherishes the moment.
-
Eugene is going insane.
It’s Varian’s 18th birthday party (Christ, he’s that old? Eugene feels his bones withering away into dust) and he’s going to go crazy. He’s going to revert back to his criminal days and do… something.
Because the entire night, Varian and Hugo have been making gaga eyes at each other and insisting the other doesn’t like them.
Thank the sun he and Rapunzel were never this bad, sure it took dying to get together, but they also knew each other for like .001% of the time those two have. He looks up from his drink, and yup, they’re giving each other looks behind their backs again. He swears every time he looks up it’s some form of pining.
“Something wrong?” Rapunzel asks, sliding in out of nowhere and wrapping an arm around his waist with a kiss.
“Nah, just our son,” Eugene snickers. “He’s being stupid again.”
“Oh god, what did Micah do this time…” she looks around for her youngest before realizing. “Oh. You meant Varian’s puppy crush.” She didn’t really understand his plight.
He leans his head on her shoulder. “The son of Flynn Rider, wasting away in pineland.”
Rapunzel rolls her eyes. “If you’re that upset about it, go talk to him!”
“I did! You know what he said?”
“That you should leave him alone…?”
Well, that too. “He said Hugo doesn’t like him like that.”
That catches Rapunzel’s attention. “He did not,” her voice dips lower, into that gossipy tone he loves so much. Princess or no, Rapunzel loves her tea.
Eugene nods sagely. “They’re both so stupid.”
She sighs fondly. “They are. Oh. Speaking of stupid,” she points to where a young nobleman is sauntering up to Varian. “This will be fun.” If there’s one thing Varian never grew out of, it was that adorable sass. It often has his family in stitches, but more than once it’s left a diplomatic event in tatters. It’s a good thing Varian isn’t technically eligible for the crown, not that he wants it anyway.
Varian sips his drink with a sigh, turning to see Hugo animatedly chatting with their mutual friend, the princess of Koto. His glasses slide down slightly, a remainder from a time when his glasses barely fit on his face. He’d often drop them or lose them in his excitement. How Varian longs to walk over there, slide them back on his face, and place a kiss to that button nose…
He shakes his head. Hugo doesn’t like him like that, can’t like him like that. He has a normal life, and he absolutely hates the high society bullshit Varian has to deal with as prince. There’s no way he wants Varian with all the baggage he comes with.
“Excuse me,” a voice interrupts his thoughts, a cute guy with a hand outstretched. “Shall we dance?”
Normally, Varian would turn him down, but he needs a distraction so desperately. So he takes it with a polite smile, letting the gentleman whisk him onto the dance floor for polite conversation that lingers with the want of power that comes with getting close to him.
He completely misses the pained look Hugo gives and the laughter Nuru hides. But still, his eyes drift away, towards Hugo, stealing glances throughout the entirety of the dance. He feels guilty, but he can’t help it. He just looks mesmerizing in his blouse, the puffy sleeves…
His partner is talking, but he barely notices it. He’s too off in his own world, imagining it’s Hugo he’s dancing with, his slender legs wrapped around his…
And then suddenly the guy is on one knee. Oh shit.
Out of their own protectiveness (and because let’s be real, the only person he’s going to date is Hugo), Rapunzel and Eugene told other nobility that they wouldn’t let anyone propose to Varian until he was of age. But as the eldest and ineligible for the crown, there is no greater target for political marriages for the next few years.
They should probably intervene.
But before his parents can step in, Hugo stands in front of the suitor with a look like fire. “You should stop now,” he insists.
The suitor frowns. “What? Who put you in charge of the prince? Our marriage would benefit this country-”
“To hell with what it would benefit, Varian’s marriage should benefit him first!” Varian’s eyes shine with awe and joy. They both know Varian could tear this weirdo to pieces in a fraction of a second, and yet still, Hugo would move the earth for him.
The suitor’s eyes narrow. “And what makes you think you have any say?”
“Oh boy,” Eugene mutters. “We should stop them.”
“Because-” he turns back and looks at Varian, into those mooncast eyes, with raven hair. The prince, who he can never have, yet craves so desperately. “Because we’re engaged.” He ignores the gasps of the courts around him, instead focusing on the boy who’s face screams panic.
“Oh please, I don’t even see a ring.” The nobleman tiffs.
And stupid, lovesick Hugo, who desperately wants to keep Varian all to himself, selfish as that may be, glares at the suitor, reaching out with one hand to pull Varian close.
Varian tries to stop him almost immediately.
“Are you out of your mind?” He hisses. “If you hadn’t said anything I would’ve just told the guy no!”
“Yeah but,” Hugo puffs his hair out of his face. “You shouldn’t have to deal with this bullshit just because of who your parents are!”
“And you shouldn’t be getting yourself into fights over it!” Varian jabs a finger into his chest. “Seriously, what the heck! There were a million other ways to prevent this! What gives?” As he speaks, Hugo gets more and more riled up, running his lip between his teeth, before he finally breaks.
“I was jealous, ok!?”  He snaps quietly, and Varian’s mouth hangs open. “I just… you deserve to be happy, but… I want you. I want you to be happy with me. I know it’s selfish but…” his shoulders slump. “At least let me vet whoever you end up with, ok? I gotta make sure they can protect you.” His smile is pained. As if this is some goodbye. Now that his secret’s out, their relationship will never be the same. He’ll go back to his house and live the rest of his life an ordinary person, forever watching as Varian outshines them all.
“...you like me?” Varian’s voice is tiny. Almost imperceptible.
Hugo laughs. “More than you’ll ever know. More than I can handle.”
They’re silent for a moment. Before Varian is pulling him in and crashing their lips together.
Hugo responds almost instantly, stars flashing behind his eyelids as he pulls Varian closer, wrapping his arms around his waist with a hum and his brain practically singing. It’s not the most graceful of kisses, neither of them have really kissed anyone before, but it’s passionate and longing and so many years of wasting away for one another finally made worth it.
“About time,” Nuru calls.
They separate with an audible pop , chests heaving and lips stained red.
“Well,” Varian says in between pants. He turns to the suitor. “Hear that? I’m engaged.”
The crowd disperses, satisfied.
Eugene and Rapunzel tail them almost immediately. “Well, that could’ve gone a lot worse,” Rapunzel says diplomatically.
Eugene sputters, “It could’ve gone a lot better too! Are you two nuts! You should’ve just stabbed him! That would be so much easier to deal with!”
Varian stifles a laugh. “You’re giving me permission to commit murder?”
“As long as I don’t have to deal with Donella! ” He practically shrieks. “I gotta tell her I lost the bet, can you believe it? You’re killing me, Varian, you’re giving your father grey hairs, after everything I’ve done for you you betray me like this!”
“I mean,” Hugo interrupts. “We don’t actually have to be engaged.”
Varian whips his head around to his… boyfriend. He’s sticking with boyfriend for now. “Are you saying you don’t want to get married?”
“No shut up I’ve imagined this since I was 8.”
“And we’ve been planning it,” Rapunzel supplies, teasing.
“Moooom…”
Both parents laugh, pulling their boys into a hug. “We’re joking. Don’t propose like I did,” Eugene admonishes. “And no adopting kids at this age. You’ve got all the time in the world.”
Varian laughs. After all they’ve done for him? All they’ve taught him? “No promises.”

PART 1 of 6 of the Owl Deity Hooty Theory
[NEXT PART]
[OWL DEITY HOOTY THEORY MASTERPOST] (in development)
(TLDR at bottom of post)
Over several long months of research and analysis since March of 2020, I have been following an utterly fascinating thread of potential misdirection and subtle details throughout The Owl House, and today, I would like to start weaving together of what I believe could become one of the biggest and most cleverly disguised twists in the entire show.
To begin, let’s take a look at the B plot of Understanding Willow:
Tumblr media
On first glance, it’s an ultimately inconsequential sidestory with the sole purpose of justifying an excuse to keep Luz and Amity in Willow’s mind, as well as providing some well-needed room to breathe and release tension after the veryemotionally charged confrontation with Inner Willow. After half an episode of Eda and King outdoing the other in ridiculous ways to win Gus’ vote and Gus running off in frustration at the end of the episode from Hooty’s inane rambling, it’s easy to laugh off Gus’ pick and assume that nothing/of value was said when he closed the door for the interview.
However, if one pays close attention to that very scene, Hooty actually canstill be heard (if faintly) underneath Eda and King’s grumbling, interestingly talking about how “It all started with a hunt. Blood red skies. That’s right, I was created-.”
Now, while it may seem silly to focus on dialogue from Hooty of all characters, this A) tells us that there was an event in the past involving blood red skies and a hunt of some kind, B) that Hooty had been created close to said event, and C) implies that what he knows but can’t tell as a story worth a damn is EXTREMELY important to be included and be hidden in such a manner.
For comparison, the only other instance of dialogue being tucked away in the background in the entire show is in Wing It Like Witches:
Tumblr media
During the lecture at the beginning of the episode, the history teacher openswith lore on Belos appointing a head witch to each coven over 50 years ago, immediately cluing in the audience to try and decipher the rest of the lecture as it moves to the background. Adding to this is how the musical sting when Luz shows off her movie obscures what he says even further, making it even more of a intriguing puzzle that the creators clearly intended for viewers to pick up on and attempt to solve.
In contrast, the hidden dialogue of Hooty’s interview is much shorter and not as hard to decipher as the teacher’s history lesson, but at the same time, there are few to no indicators whatsoever in that scene to clue in the audience to even check for something like that. It comes at the end of an episode where most viewers would have been paradoxically tired out and driven abuzz by the revelations of Amity and Willow’s relationship, doesn’t attempt to draw much attention to itself, and frames itself as a comedic subversion of audience expectations with neither the “greatest witch who ever lived” or the self-proclaimed king of demons being picked by Gus.
Instead, he picks someone that the show portrays constantly as an oblivious and gullible idiot after being described as a “state of the art defense system” at the very beginning of the series. Someone who, despite it being played for laughs, is scarily capable of casually subduing Lilith offscreen one episode and then beating her and an entire squad of Emperor’s Coven members without even the slightest change in personality or temperament.
Tumblr media
Someone who, due to being the Owl House itself, could be considered the titular character of the entire show, yet is taken for granted by those who inhabit him and barely gets any respect from even the cutely patronized King - including when Hooty could be interpreted as having potentially been full on DEAD for a time given the use of extremely cartoony X eyes and a lack of vital signs in The Intruder.
Tumblr media
And someone who Eda at best tolerates and at worst abandons in personal interactions and only occasionally acknowledges him when he’s actually doing his job. Yet at the same time is so implicitly trusted beyondprotecting her home to the point where - when up against the closest person Eda has to an equal outside of likely Belos - the only actually recognizable spells Eda used in combat were 1) stereotypical energy blasts, 2) a single shield spell in Covention, and 3) a noticeably large reliance on imitations of Hooty above any other spells she could have decided to use instead.
Tumblr media
In short, the show repeatedly tells us he is just an idiotic gag character through and through, but at the same time demonstrates he has immense power through both onscreen and offscreen demonstrations, implicitly tells us his importance ahead of time through Eda’s imitations in actually serious situations, and treats his interview and origin story as - if not even more- important to keep secret than a long lore dump about how Belos’ reign works.
After all, there being only two instances of hidden background dialogue in the entire season is already intriguing on its own, but for one to get plenty of clues to draw in people’s attention and for the other to be treated as just another gag about a “mere comic relief character” - aka a good way to draw away attention and lower one’s guard - heavily suggests a far deeper significance buried under layers of misdirection, comedy, and conditioned audience expectations.
I mean, when Eda bragged about being “a bad girl living in a secret fortress,” Hooty followed with a remark about how “I’m the secret.” While that line may sound like Hooty simply being confused as part of a one-off on the surface, it’s an odd dialogue choice for the writers to pick when you think about all the other reminders of his nature as the house itself throughout the season. With the precedent these moments set, it would have been much more appropriate for him to latch onto the “fortress” side of “secret fortress” AND it would have been just as equally funny of a joke about his awareness skills, but instead, Hooty broke away from the established trend to say something that would make people suspicious were it to come from anyone else.
In a way, this reminds me much of the many subtle bits of foreshadowing strewn across the show, like Luz unknowingly describing Amity in Witches Before Wizards and Eda burning a hole through Luz’s coven type quiz that coincidentally selected the same track she had taken at Hexside as “a punky potionist.” At the time of airing, these initially seemed like one-off jokes, but eventually came back in full force several episodes later with Amity’s hidden sensitive feelings and love for the Azura books becoming clear in Lost in Language, and the reveal of Eda’s school track in Something Ventured, Someone Framed with her school misdemeanor pictures.
That said, compared to these individual bits of minor foreshadowing, the jokes about Hooty in Understanding Willow appear to simply be the most obvious pieces in a giant puzzle, implicitly and outright telling attentive viewers that there’s a major mystery to be uncovered here.
In fact, I feel bold enough to say that we could be looking at a twist on a similar scale to that of the Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz and Stanford Pines twists in Steven Universe and Gravity Falls respectively, what with this particular puzzle piece coming from how Gus wanted to make THE greatest interview of all time, and how he was looking for someone who was “interesting, accomplished, AND noteworthy:”
Tumblr media
Note the emphasis on the ‘and’ here, as Gus had made a big deal that “people aren’t meantto be all those things” at the beginning of the episode, so as a result, stripping away all the comedic framing of his subplot leaves the intriguing implication that whoever - and, perhaps, what- Hooty is, they really are the most interesting, accomplished, AND noteworthy person out of everyone.
I could go further and talk about why I suspect the mystery surrounding King’s origins, whether true or not, is partially meant to misdirect us from paying attention to Hooty, or how the TOH crew’s could be disguising legitimate clues to his nature among made up and highly meme-able joke answers in order to proliferate said concepts throughout the fandom - thus letting us do all the dirty work of getting ourselves used to the ideas and used to dismissing them at the same time - but to bring things to a close for now, I’d like to leave you all with a question that I’ll start answering next time:
What does it mean when both the most powerful and notorious witch on the Boiling Isles and the possible actual king of demons/the Titan itself/something don’t match up to a house? And what do you think it is that makes him so special to warrant such misdirection?
TLDR: Between Eda’s golem spells, the show stressing his nature as the titular house, his implicit strength, and the odd dialogue and structure of Understanding Willow‘s subplot in relation to him, I believe I have good reason to suspect the show has been giving us many hints towards Hooty being much, much more important than it would like us to currently believe or even joke about. Particularly, through clever uses of comedy to establish and enforce a strong audience bias against looking closely at him or unironically taking him seriously, and to potentially plant the seeds for something I will start exploring in Part 2.

Tammy has lived in this neighborhood for almost 30 years – she raised her kids around here and now is enjoying her well-deserved retirement with her husband Harold. And if she knows one thing for certain, then it’s this: there’s something wrong with the new neighbors. It’s not because they are gay, Tammy tells herself. She believes herself to be quite open-minded, one of her nieces is actually a lesbian. It’s something else, but she can’t quite put her finger on it yet.
The men moved in today, only a few days after the last tenants died in a horrible and tragic accident involving the lawnmower and a malfunctioning electric wire. Tammy doesn’t like to admit it, but she always knew those two didn’t fit the neighborhood. Sarah brought it up several times at Sunday Brunch, and as it turned out, the entire neighborhood held a grudge against the deceased couple. At least the house still looked well enough to get sold almost immediately again.
It’s hard to catch glimpses of the movers, but she catches a few sights as she stretches out of her bedroom window. One of them has dark hair and is wearing a tan trenchcoat, the other one seems to be taller and is coated in a flannel shirt. Not really the type to be moving into this street, but they might turn out to be nice. She tries to keep an open mind, she tells herself, even though she doesn’t understand how somebody could possibly move while wearing a trenchcoat.
Shortly after dinner, the doorbell rings, and Tammy almost jumps forward to get it. Sarah told her she’d call once she had a proper talk with the new neighbors, but the phone’s been quiet so far. But to her surprise, it’s not her friend in front of the door, but two handsome men holding a basket with muffins.
“Hello, you must be Mrs. Philipps. We’re the Winchesters,” the taller of both says, as he holds his hand out. Tammy shakes them politely, as she smiles at them.
“Tammy is fine, and my husband Harold is probably already asleep in his lounge seat,” she jokes as she shakes their hands. The man in the trenchcoat seems a bit more reserved, but he still gives her a small smile when she looks at him.
“Nice to meet you, Tammy,” the other man says again. “I’m Sam, and this is my husband Cas.”
5 days earlier
“Lawnmower accident?” Dean laughs, as he re-reads the headline again. “Well, if this isn’t our kind of thing, I really don’t know what is.”
“Exactly what I thought,” Sam replies, turning his laptop back to himself. “Apparently there were several deaths within the last 10 years in this neighborhood, and all of them were classified as accidents.”
“All over the area? So less likely a spirit, and more like –“
“Witches?” Sam finishes his brother’s sentence. “Probably, the victims weren’t exactly popular in the area. One of them had a kid, but the couple wasn’t married. Another person wanted to move in with her wife, but she died before she could. Seems like they are most likely targeting people, who don’t fit the community.”
Witches and conservative suburbs sure aren’t Dean’s favorite things in the world, that much is sure. But if people are in danger, there’s no way he’d let them down. Especially, if he might get to kill some fundamentalist witch.
“Huh, so what we’re thinking? I’d say go undercover, but brothers usually don’t go buying some white picket fence house in a conservative neighborhood,” the older Winchester proposes, while settling back in his seat. He remembers how they tried to infiltrate that neighborhood so many years ago and how the salespeople kept mistaking them for a couple.
“I thought Eileen and I could maybe do it, but her leg isn’t healing as we hoped,” Sam thinks out loud, wincing at the thought of his injured girlfriend. The recent werewolf hunt was tougher than expected and left Eileen’s leg badly hurt. Cas tried his best to heal her, but she was still struggling.
“Maybe one of us could team up with Mom?” Dean suggests but cringes once the words leave his mouth. “Urgh, never mind. I’m not very strong on the Oedipus thing.”
“What about me?” Cas chimes in, all eyes turning to him. Dean didn’t even realize the angel entered the room. “Since we are not related, it might be less awkward to pretend a relationship.”
Dean is left more or less speechless, as he babbles incoherent words. He likes Cas very much; they are best friends for a reason. But pretending to be in a relationship? Heaven and Hell have been teasing them for years about their “profound bond”, so they might even get away with it. But Dean’s stomach twists uncomfortably at the mere thought of calling Cas a pet name or holding his hand in public.
“Uh-Uh, no way I’m getting fake-married to Cas!” Dean protests once he finds the ability to speak again. His reaction was apparently a bit harsh, judging by the looks both Cas and Sam give him.
“Okay…,” Sam sighs, drawing the word out in a long breath. It sounds like he wants to say more but instead turns to face the angel. “Castiel, would you like to pretend-marry me?”
Dean can feel a blush creep up his neck, as he stares at his brother. It’s the reasonable thing to do, but it just feels wrong. Nobody ever questioned their status as friends, and Dean can’t even picture the both of them acting in love. When he thought his stomach felt bad before, he’s now actually feeling sick.
He’s close to suggesting a fake relationship with their mom again when Cas simply nods to answer Sam’s question. “Of course, Sam. I mean, I do.”
The two share a hinted smile as if they are both part of a joke Dean doesn’t get. The sick feeling still doesn’t leave him, as he stands up from his seat. He must have eaten something wrong today, that’s the only logical explanation.
“Well, Mazel Tov to you guys then,” Dean mutters, more to himself than to the other men. They don’t even look at him when he leaves the room behind.
———————————————————————————————–
“I still think this is a stupid idea,” Dean protests, as he puts the meatloaf in the oven. Somewhere behind him, he knows Cas is preparing the salad and Sam is busy fluffing some pillows on the couch.
“We need to connect with all the neighbors, and a housewarming party is the easiest way to do so,” Sam replies annoyed. He and Cas introduced themselves to everyone in the neighborhood, but nobody seemed guilty so far. Cas tried his best to “sniff the witch out” but only found some kitchen herbs in the local gardens and a loud laugh from Dean, when he explained his plan to search for witch-like smells. So far, they had no clue who the responsible party could be.
“Dearest, could you make space in the hallway closet for the coats?” Sam calls out to Cas, and Dean almost burns his hand at the stove. He had a few days to adjust to the idea of Sam and Cas pretending a relationship, but the term of endearment still surprises the hunter.
“What’s next? You’re gonna kiss goodbye on the porch when Cas drives to work?” Dean snaps at his brother, who seems confused by the sudden anger.
“If the situation needs it, sure…,” Sam replies, but Dean interrupts him before he can continue.
“What the hell, Sammy? Dearest? What kind of weird pet name is that even supposed to be?”
“The one Sam and I agreed to,” Cas replies drily. The look in his blue eyes leaves no space for any further discussion. “This act is completely planned out, and we can’t risk our standing because you are having trouble adjusting, Dean.”
Just as Dean wants to argue again, they are interrupted by the sound of the doorbell. They can only hope nobody heard their yelling, the last thing they need is unnecessary gossip from the neighbors. Cas and Sam waltz towards the front door, while Dean stays a few steps behind them.
“Hello Tammy, Harold. Welcome to our humble home,” Sam greets the guests, as the couple enters their hallway. Cas takes their jackets from them, hanging them in the biggest coat closet Dean’s ever seen. Well, at least the house got some perks. Before he can think more about the architectural features of the house, his brother calls for him.
“This is my brother Dean,” Sam introduces him, and Dean tries his best to give a fake smile and nod politely at the boring stories the neighbors tell him. This is going to be a long evening…
—————————————————————————————-
“Well Ladies, let’s begin Sunday Brunch,” Irene happily pronounces, as she raises her mimosa in the air. The other women do the same, cheering each other. It’s the first Sunday Brunch after the Winchesters moved to the area, leaving more than enough gossip material for the group.
“They seem nice enough, but I heard Sam is unemployed. He just sits around all day at home and waits for his Cassiel to come back home!” Jennifer complains with a deep sigh. It’s no secret she isn’t the biggest fan of the new couple, but even she can’t deny the quality of the served meatloaf at the housewarming.
“His name is Cassiel, dear,” Beth replies, eying the salmon pieces hungrily. “They said Sam’s working in IT and can do it from home. Clearly, an excuse, if you ask me.”
The gossip continues happily: Tammy found out they only have one toothbrush. Irene asked about Cas’s job, and apparently, he’s working in a nearby library. And all of them agree, their marriage is weird. Whenever Sam touched his husband, it felt unnatural, and they didn’t kiss once the whole evening.
“We need to address the elephant in the room,” Sarah sighs, and the group’s attention draws over to her. She’s been quiet so far, which means her news are far bigger than everyone else’s: “The brother.”
“If I were only twenty years younger…,” Beth starts, earning a peal of laughter from the women around her. “He’s very handsome, that’s true.”
“Yes, and I think Castiel would agree with you there,” Sarah speaks, before taking a long sip from her teacup. The reaction is immediate, as all the women start talking at once. The Winchester barely lived a week in the neighborhood, but they already produced the best gossip they had in a while.
“Do you think they are having an affair?” Tammy asks shocked. Of course, she had felt the tension between the family members, but she blamed it on the stress of moving. But now that Sarah suggested it, it seems like a possible explanation.
“We can’t be sure yet, but I bet something is going on. Dean surely looked rather unhappy every time he saw Sam touching his hubby. And Cas got some serious heart-eyes for his brother-in-law.”
“Besides,” Irene steps in “their marriage just seems – off? There’s more sex happening in the way Cas looks at Dean than in his marriage bed with Sam”
“Irene!” The shocked gasp from the elder women makes the other guests laugh, as they refill their mimosas.
“Oh, poor Sam,” Tammy sighs, fiddling with her wedding ring. Being cheated on must be awful on its own, but having your husband fool around with your own brother? That’s a new level of tastelessness.“
“Anyways, have you seen Mrs. Ericson’s new haircut? Just awful…”
——————————————————————————————
Dean excuses himself early from the housewarming party, not knowing how much more of the charade he could have handled. He expected to get some blackmailing material for his brother, it was supposed to be a funny sight after all. What he didn’t expect was the burning sensation on his inside, as he regarded the play right in front of him.
He’s still mad about the whole thing, and how caught up both of them were. It’s one thing to hold hands and present in the couple in front of others. But Sam calling Cas by a pet name in private? That’s just unprofessional, even Dean knows that. And then Sam told him, he would even kiss Cas if the situation needs it…What the hell was that even supposed to mean? Nobody is going to force them to kiss, the party guests are all far too old to play “spin the bottle” anymore.
Would Cas even kiss back, if Sam initiated a kiss? The angel doesn’t seem the type for physical affection; hell, he only lost his virginity a few years ago! The image of Cas pressing Meg against the wall, kissing her passionately, popped back up in Dean’s mind. And then the image changed to Cas and Sam in the same manner…God, Dean’s gonna have to swallow some holy water to get rid of that mental image.
Carefully, he watched the way his brother and his friend interacted, and the sight made him feel uneasy. He thought it was a stupid idea for them to fake a relationship because it would just be weird. But now that he was watching the way Cas’s hand rested on Sam’s lower back, Dean realized it’s something entirely else: he’s jealous. It’s not a feeling he knows very well; after all, none of his relationships ever lasted long. But as he watched Cas laugh at one of Sam’s stories, their sides pressed together – it’s setting something inside of Dean loose.
If he hadn’t acted like a child, he might have been the one standing beside Cas at that moment. He would have been the one holding his hand, laughing at his jokes, and maybe even pressing soft kisses on Castiel’s cheek. Nobody would even question their act, he’s sure of that. And then his mind kept wandering, back to the memory of Cas showing off his kissing skills. Except now it wasn’t Meg, but himself getting pinned against the wall.
Dean’s not stupid; he knows he likes men the same way he likes women. It’s been a long journey to finally find self-acceptance, but he’s finally contempt with it. That doesn’t mean he’s going to buy pride stickers and tell everyone around him he’s bi. No, it’s his secret and he’s the only one who needs to know about it.
He also knows Cas’s vessel is very attractive. But those two things – his attraction to men and his profound bond with Cas – were never something he considered might be related. But thinking about Cas kissing him – it’s something Dean never knew he wanted that much. When the sight of the happy couple got too much for him to bear, Dean excused himself to get a drink. Only then he remembered they are actually on a job, and he’s supposed to be on the watch out for possible bad guys.
And he’s totally going to do that.
Once he had a proper drink.
——————————————————————————————
“Please tell me your stupid charade is at least getting you somewhere,” Dean groans, once Cas is settled in his seat across from him. They decided to meet up in a close diner to discuss their next steps, while Sam is hacking the public security cameras from their house. Dean refuses to call it their “home”, hating the implication it’s setting.
“There are a few people we can surely rule out,” Cas replies, stirring some sugar into the coffee mug Dean pressed into his hands. “On my drive yesterday, the energetic waves were much stronger at the end of the street.”
“Great, so what’s next? You and Sammy going to play house for some more weeks, until we finally got our suspect?”
Dean can only hope the hunt will be over rather sooner than later. He barely slept the night after the housewarming party, his mind racing with thoughts. Not even liquor helped to drown them out and the night left him feeling not only exhausted but more upset than ever.
Castiel releases an annoyed groan. “Can you just…you’re undermining this plan at every given opportunity, and Sam and I are getting worried you might risk the entire thing.”
“I just want,” Dean starts, the words twisting in his throat. He knows exactly what he wants, ever since seeing Cas and Sam casually holding hands and snuggling on the couch. But at the same time, he knows it’s something he can’t have. Angels aren’t supposed to have emotions, he knows that. But when he catches Castiel’s blue eyes carefully watching him, Dean can’t help but feel a spark of hope.
“Do you ever think things could be, you know, different between you and me? Maybe we could be…more…or…”
“Dean,” Cas replies, his name sounding almost like a prayer from his lips. “Are you saying…”
“Well, hello you handsome fellas,” a sudden voice snaps them back to reality and when they look at its owner, Beth is smiling at them. “I thought it was you, so I just had to pop in and say hello.”
“Hello then,” Dean grumpily answers, his eyes focused on the table before him. Of all possible times, Beth had to disrupt them just now. He remembers the way those nosy neighbors had eyed him at the housewarming party, and how it made him uneasy. But then again, he only had eyes for Cas that evening.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at work, Cas?” Beth asks, an obnoxious tone hidden under her sweetly sick smile. Right, Dean remembers, they told everyone Cas works at the library. Good enough of an excuse to spend their time there.
“Uhhh – Lunch break,” Castiel answers stiffly, his eyes shortly glancing over to Dean. The hunter seems to have grown smaller by the second, as he fiddles with the menu.
“Well, tell Sam I said hi,” she comments cheerfully, as she finally leaves them alone again. Silence falls over the table, only disturbed by the noise of the diner around them. Dean can feel Castiel’s watchful eyes on him, but he’s not ready to face them yet. He might not believe in fate or destiny, but the disturbance came just at the right time. A few seconds more and he might have destroyed the best friendship he had his entire life.
“Dean…,” Cas finally breaks the silence, but Dean interrupts him before he can speak more.
“Just forget it, Cas…Let’s focus back on the case.”
They don’t pay any attention to Beth, who silently snaps a picture of them from the outside. It feels like the ultimate proof those two are actually having an affair; why else would they meet up in a diner during Castiel’s work hours? She can’t help but grin, as she sends the picture to her friends.
TO: BRUNCH LADIES
“Look who’s having dinner instead of working….”
——————————————————————————————
“It’s Jennifer,” Cas says, once the image of Dean flashes over the laptop screen. After several neighbors pointed out how attached Dean seems to be to his brother, they decided to stick to virtual conversations for the moment.
“You sure?” Dean asks as he watches his brother and his best friend sit on their couch. He should be glad to once have an entire motel room for himself, but for some strange reason, he misses his family. Okay, he knows exactly why: he hates not knowing what’s happening between his brother and Cas. Sammy isn’t interested in Cas that way, he knows that. But the thought of them holding hands is enough to get Dean bothered.
“Absolutely,” Sam replies. “She was already one of our suspects due to some lucky incidents in the last few years, but when I was at her house, I clearly saw some witch supplies.”
“Her magic doesn’t seem too powerful, destroying her supplies and her altar should be enough to stop her,” Cas adds up, and Dean nods along.
“She’s working from home, right?” Dean asks while trying to remember everything about the suspect. Jennifer didn’t talk to him a lot; she was more of a loner. Apparently, her husband died a few years ago and left her enough money to start her own jewelry company. “How are we going to get her out of the house long enough to take care of the situation?”
“We could throw another party. Maybe celebrate a birthday or a wedding anniversary. And you and Mom could handle the house in the meantime,” Sam suggests.
“She didn’t stay long at the housewarming,” Cas throws in. “We need some more time, there might be warding at her house – maybe we could try a distraction, so she stays longer?”
“You could fake-break-up your fake marriage,” Dean huffs under his breath, knowing already they won’t agree to it. If their plan fails, the entire cover-up story would be blown up. There’s a bottle of beer in Dean’s hands and he takes a deep gulp from it. It may not be noon yet, but he stopped caring about that years ago.
Cas answers once Dean finished drinking. “No, that’s hardly enough to draw her attention.”
“We could call Jack, maybe he can help out. He could be your unknown son from a secret affair,” Dean jokes next. It sounds almost like a cheap plotline from Dr. Sexy – except Dr. Sexy’s secret son actually appeared in season 3 and needed an organ transplant, which could only be donated by his father. While Dean tries to remember how the episode ended, Sam and Cas nod in agreement.
“I’ll call Jack right away,” Cas speaks, his phone already halfway pressed to his ear. A second later, the angel disappears from the couch, leaving only Sam in his view. The younger Winchester seems to wait for Castiel to leave the room before he addresses his brother again.
“Dean, promise me you won’t act up,” Sam tries to reason. “We can’t risk the entire thing because you are getting jealous.”
“Jealous? Don’t be ridiculous, Sammy,” the older Winchester mumbles, trying his best to not sound petty. “Scout’s honor, I’ll be on my best behavior.”
——————————————————————————————-
Dean’s promise lasts around 20 minutes, which is already longer than he honestly would have expected. He and Mary will enter Jennifer’s house at 1800 sharp, leaving them with just enough time to trash her little altar and the supplies. Jack is going to start with his distraction around 10 minutes earlier, giving Dean enough time to slip out quietly. It’s all planned to the minute, which of course means, it’s destined to fall apart.
They invited their neighbors under the premise of Castiel’s birthday, even though the angel technically doesn’t even have a birthday. It doesn’t matter anyway, since Sam promised some BBQ and apparently that’s enough to motivate everyone to show up. Dean watches the spectacle from a distance, occasionally sipping his cold beer. He planned to handle the grill, but some bored husband hushed him away to deal with it instead.
Cas looks beautiful, Dean notices as he watches his best friend talking to his guests. He’s wearing a light blue dress shirt and a pair of dark jeans, and Dean makes a mental note to thank his brother for finally getting Cas out of his usual outfit. Then he remembers it means Sam took Cas shopping at some point, and Dean’s gratitude turns sour in his mouth.
“How long have you two been married?” one of the ladies asks Cas, and Dean tries his best to hide a snickering laugh.
“Too damn long,” Dean jokes under his breath, but loud enough for several heads to turn in his direction. Maybe he had a beer too much, but watching Sam and Cas acting in love isn’t a thing he can handle sober.
“Two years,” Cas replies shortly, shooting angry glances at Dean. A second later, he mumbles to his guests again. “May you excuse me for a moment?”
Dean steps back, ready to hide from Castiel’s anger, but it doesn’t work. Barely a moment later, Cas is already in front of him. His hand closes tightly around Dean’s arm, keeping him from turning away.
“What’s the matter with you, Dean? You’re acting like a child,” Cas hisses when he catches him in the hallway. It’s enough to make Dean angry again, as he pulls his arm away from Castiel’s tight grip.
“The matter with me?” he shoots back. “This is honestly so ridiculous, you’re acting so…”
A middle-aged man bumps into them, and Dean stops talking immediately. There are far too many people around and if he says anything about the case, it could ruin their entire plan. The guests are spread all over the house, leaving no place to talk in private. Well, almost no place…
“We need to talk,” Dean whispers, before dragging the angel into the coat closet. Some curious eyes seem to follow them, but Dean shuts the door before anyone else can spot them. The closet is surprisingly spacious, but the walls seem to suffocate him. There’s a bit of light coming in through the shutters, and he can see the concern written all over Cas’s face.
“What’s going on? Ever since Sam and I began working this case, you’ve been acting weird,” Cas presses on and Dean knows it’s finally time to come clean about his feelings. He doesn’t want to lose Castiel’s friendship, but he can’t keep lying anymore.
“I wish it were me,” Dean rushes before he can chicken out again. “Instead of Sam. I wish it were me you’re married to. And I know it’s all fake, and you’re just pretending, but it’s driving me insane. Watching him hold you and call you those cheesy pet names. Because - because it’s something I want to do with you…not pretending, but for real.”
Once Dean starts speaking, the words don’t seem to stop rushing from his mouth. Cas just regards him with those hauntingly blue eyes, his head tilted in a way that always makes Dean’s heart melt. When all is said, Dean feels like the air was punched out of his lungs, as he awaits his friend’s answer.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“Because I was too stupid to realize it for the longest time. And then I just didn’t know how to say it,” Dean admits. He came close to confessing in the diner, but Beth interrupted them and afterward, Dean felt ashamed and stupid.
“Dean,” Cas whispers. “I want those things too.”
There’s the beginning of a bright smile on Castiel’s face, and Dean swears his heart skips a beat when the words finally dawn on him. Before Dean can overthink the situation, he presses closer to the angel and is relieved when Cas is doing the same. And then their faces meet in the middle. Kissing Cas is the easiest thing in the world, it turns out. Whatever Dean was so afraid of, is right forgotten once their lips slot together.
It starts out innocent and gentle, just like the way relationships start. But then Cas opens his mouth a little bit, letting Dean lick inside and,  oh  – now things are getting heated. Dean presses even closer to Cas, their chests flushing together and their arms holding each other close. Somewhere, Cas’s back hits a wall and Dean pins him against it. The moan that falls from Cas’s lips is almost obscene while motivating Dean only further.
It’s perfect, and amazing, and breathtaking – until the closet door opens and they stumble onto the floor. Tammy’s surprised gasp draws everyone’s attention over to the couple, still entangled on top of each other on the floor. Everyone’s, even Sam’s.
“What the hell do you two think you are doing?” he yells loud enough to attract the entire house to the hallway, where they are watching them closely. Dean and Cas are still on the floor, slowly stumbling back to their feet.
“Sammy, I can explain…,” Dean starts, but now Sam turns his attention to Cas. He steps closer to them, his pointed finger slapping against Castiel’s chest.
“You’ve been screwing my brother?!” he yells, before locking eyes with Dean. “And you! Is this why Fernando broke up with me?”
Dean is taken aback for a second. Who the hell is Fernando? It’s only then when Dean remembers their lesser-used codewords. He can still recall how he wrote it down in his own leatherbound journal:  Fernando – just play along.
“This got nothing to do with Fernando, this is about me and Cas!” Dean replies with an angry voice, before taking Castiel’s palm into his own hands. Cas gives him a quick squeeze, and Dean decides to have at least a little fun with the situation.
“I finally understand now, why I was so against your marriage. Because you two don’t belong together! Your whole marriage is a scam! You act all perfectly happy when in reality, you’re not even sleeping in the same bed anymore.”
Dean can hear the people around them gasp a little. He wouldn’t be surprised if one of the elder people would end up with a heart attack due to all the fake drama being uncovered right now. Besides him, Cas draws in a deep breath, before speaking to his (fake) husband.
“It’s true, Sam. I’ve been having feelings for your brother for a while now, but I never knew how to address them.”
Sam just looks at them with the biggest puppy eyes Dean’s ever seen. His time in drama club surely played out. “Are you two in love?”
Dean takes a deep breath, looking over to the familiar blue eyes, and the truth slips easily over his tongue.
“I think I love Cas more than I’ve ever loved myself.”
The look on Castiel’s face is everything and without even words, Dean knows he feels the exact same about him. The room is quiet around them, and from the corner of his eye, Dean spots Jennifer amongst the watchers. At least their little distraction worked well enough for her to stay.
“As your brother, I wish you all the happiness in the world,” Sam speaks, his eyes fixed in the distance. When Dean turns his head, he spots their mother coming in through the entrance door, breathing heavily but otherwise seems okay. She gives them both a small nod, signaling them she took care of the altar.
The crowd seems satisfied for the moment, and Dean is about to lead Cas out of the house when a voice stops them midway. It’s Jack, who is shouting loud enough for everyone to hear: “Sam, I am your secret son!”
The drama is enough to make at least one elder lady faint.
——————————————————————————————-
Dean and Cas depart soon enough, leaving Sam to deal with the rest of the concerned neighbors. Everybody seems to be too caught up in the drama to notice their quiet leave. They end up back in the diner, this time holding hands on the table. Surprisingly, everything feels the same and yet, completely different than before. Dean can’t put it in words, but for the first time in years, he knows he’s truly happy.
It takes a bit of time for Sam to finally text him, saying his guests finally left them alone and they can come back to talk about their next steps. When the Impala roars down the road, Dean can feel the eyes of every household staring at them. They are probably wondering why he would be back so soon enough, but Dean doesn’t care. He just holds Cas’ hand on the way to the house, fully knowing he won the grand prize.
Jack and Mary greet them happily, and even Sam can’t hide his grin as he approaches his brother. “Well, if it isn’t the homewrecker himself.”
“Come on, I bet several of your neighbors would have consoled you all night long, if you had asked them,” Dean shoots back, throwing a wink at Sam. He remembers the way one of the ladies had clung to Sam’s arm, trying her best to cheer him up about his failed marriage.
They all settle in the living room: Cas and Dean on the couch, Mary and Sam seated in each of the armchairs, and Jack sitting cross-legged on the floor. It may not be much, but it’s their own little screwed-up family. While Sam gets them beers from the fridge, Dean considers putting his arm around Cas. They haven’t had time to label their relationship yet, but they’re both too old to play games. So, Dean decides to go with his gut and wraps his arm around Castiel’s shoulder. The returned smile lets him know it was a good decision.
“Sorry for the way I acted earlier, it was just for show,” Sam says when he passes the beer over to the couple. “I’m actually glad you two finally figured things out.”
“Me too,” Mary chimes in with a laugh. “Even though I was patiently waiting for your back-up at the house.”
“Bet you still did an amazing job without me,” Dean returns, an honest smile on his lips. He holds his beer towards her, and she clinks it with her own.
Sam fills them in with the details of the last hours, and how he watched Jennifer leave her home in a panicked state. She packed a few bags, before driving away with screeching tires. Well, another case successfully solved. They talk for hours while laughing about stories and eating the leftovers from the party.
“Damn, I could really use some sleep now,” Dean yawns, stretching his arms. A short glance at the clock lets him know it’s almost 2 am and they gotta hit the road early the next day.
“How about you two head to the motel, and Jack and Mom stay here?” Sam proposes. When Dean checks on Jack, the kid is curled up in his seat, snoring quietly. No way they’re going to move him somewhere else, so this plan might be for the best.
“You just want me to stay, so your neighbors see this pretty lady leave your house tomorrow,” Mary jokes, earning some quiet hollering from her elder son and a laugh from Castiel.
“Guess we’re heading back to the motel,” Dean finally decides, before clumsily standing up from the couch. If it weren’t for the awful neighbors, this place might actually be nice. The furniture for one thing is comfortable enough. And the closet sure gave him a few ideas what to do with Cas in the future. He takes a few steps towards the door until he notices something is missing. “Cas, you coming?”
“You want me to come along?” Cas asks, and Dean just nods.
“Of course, would be weird to stay with your husband now that you scored the hotter brother,” Dean replies, pressing a gentle kiss on Castiel’s cheek. He never knew angels could blush, but it’s a sight he will never get enough of.
“We’ll pick you up tomorrow at nine, better be dressed!” Sam shouts after them when Dean is already halfway out of the door.
“You’re such a buzzkill, Sammy. No wonder your husband left you”
“I’m just glad you’re finally out of the closet,” Sam shoots back with a grin. Dean already knows it’s a joke he’ll hear a thousand times in the upcoming years, but when he looks over at Cas, it sure is a price worth paying.
The drive to the motel is rather short, and soon enough, Dean unlocks the door to his room. Luckily, he had booked a room with a king-size bed. He rarely had a room for himself during hunts, so he had decided to enjoy that. Cas closes the door behind them, while Dean strips out of his flannel and his jeans. He’s still wearing a shirt and his boxers, but compared to a fully dressed Castiel, he almost looks naked.
When Dean comes near him, the angel wraps his arms around his torso and pulls him even closer. Once again, their lips meet in a kiss, growing more heated by the second. It’s with a sigh that Dean slowly pulls away again.
“Maybe we should take it slow, honey. How about we just cuddle tonight?” Dean murmurs, pressing gentle kisses along his jaw. The exhaustion of the day lies heavily on Dean’s bones, and all he wants to do is cuddle into bed, his lover beside him.
“Honey?” Cas asks with a raised eyebrow, and Dean feels himself blushing yet again.
“It’s just – every time I see a bee or something, I have to think about you,” he admits. “Remember how you collected honey yourself? Or when you showed up covered in bees?”
Cas smiles at the memory. “Of course, I remember, but why would you bring that up now?”
“It’s just a term of endearment, a pet name. I can stop if you want”
Dean was never a big fan of pet names. He usually called his partners by their names, not some silly phrase. But then again, he was the one who turned  Castiel  to  Cas,  so maybe the angel has always been the exception for him.
“No, I like it,” Cas decides, before pressing another quick peck onto Dean’s lips. “And I am fully contempt with cuddling you.”
After some discussion about clothing choices, Cas also strips down to his underwear. Cuddling in jeans and a dress shirt would have been awful, and Dean luckily managed to convince the angel of it. The bed is more than big enough for the both of them, as they lie facing each other in the dark.
“We should make you a proper Winchester someday,” Dean mutters, gently kissing Cas’s knuckles. He isn’t thinking about marriage, not yet at least. Most marriages he’s seen over the years ended in death: his parents, Bobby and his wife Karen, Ellen and her husband…The list goes on and on, including those couples they couldn’t save during their hunts. When he saw his own father stricken with grief for his lost wife, part of Dean swore he’d never marry. But then again, Dean never would have believed he’d ever live past the age of 30. It’s with a smile upon his lips that he finally falls asleep.
All his life, he expected monsters in every dark corner, and more than enough times Dean was proven right. He’s been long enough in the business to smell danger from miles away, Dean believes. Which is why he’s surprised to wake up to the sound of Castiel shouting his name.
When he opens his eyes, all he sees is purple. The room seems to be painted in the color, reflecting on every surface possible. And in the middle of it all stands Jessica, glaring at them with violet and angry eyes.
“You! You really thought destroying my altar was enough to stop me?”
Dean’s hand finds its way under his pillow but returns empty-handed. He must have forgotten to place it there, too caught up with his lover. And when he looks around, he can spot his faithful gun sitting on top of a dresser, which is inconveniently placed behind the wrathful witch in the room. Cas is already standing beside the bed, and the sight of a half-dressed angel ready to fight would be hilarious if it weren’t for the mortal danger they’re in.
“You’re an abomination,” Jessica yells again. “Dirty and sinful, and…”
The angel blade hits her right in the chest. Her purple eyes glance downwards, where the blood comes rushing out of her body. Apparently, she was so caught up in looking dangerous, she actually forgot to ward herself. And with Castiel’s heavenly aim, that could only end deadly for her. Jessica sinks to her knees; the purple flashes of lightning slowly disappearing from the room. It’s only then when Dean decides to approach her. Blood is running down her mouth, but she’s still alive, watching the hunter carefully as he kneels down in front of her.
“I’ve had a voice like you in my head my entire life, whispering awful things about myself,” Dean tells her, keeping eye contact as he pulls the angel blade out of her bleeding chest. “But now, that I’m finally happy, do you know what happens to this voice?”
Jessica doesn’t answer, and he doesn’t need her to.
He would have slit her throat either way.

“Welcome to Sunday Brunch, Agnes,” Sarah announces, as the women settle down at her dinner table. It’s been a while since they had another brunch, but it was long-awaited. Today, a new face sits at the table with them.
“So sad Jennifer decided to move away, but we are glad we got you in the neighborhood now.”
“Thanks for having me,” Agnes replies with a shy smile, as she glances around at the other women. “It’s wonderful to have such nice and caring neighbors, my old neighborhood was so scandalous…”
“Scandalous?” Irene laughs, shaking her head in disbelief. “Oh dear, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”
“Are you referring to the Winchester?” Tammy replies while stirring her tea. It’s been weeks since those men came and went, but it’s still everyone’s favorite topic of discussion.
“Don’t be silly, of course I mean the Winchesters!”
Beth releases a deep sigh. “I’ve heard they did it right in Dean’s fancy car after the party.”
“No, they threw Sam out of the house and then had sex in the bed Sam used to sleep in. How tasteless of them,” Sarah corrects her immediately.
“That can’t be.” It’s Tammy’s turn to speak now. “I saw him the next day with a blonde woman in front of the house”
“Guess he got over it quickly then,” some other woman giggles. “Have you seen the kid too? Sam can’t have been older than maybe 25 when he was born”
Agnes just smiles quietly, as she listens to the stories. She may not know the Winchesters, but they sure are entertaining as heck.
———————————————————————————————
Castiel becomes a Winchester on a sunny day in July.
It’s been months since the case that started their relationship, and they never spared another thought to those nosy neighbors. Dean suspects the rumors they started that night, but he couldn’t care less. Once the town disappeared from the Impala’s rearview mirror, none of them ever spared another thought to the neighborhood. Dean and Castiel couldn’t be happier, and that’s all that matters to them.
Jody invited all of them to her cabin at Lake Alvin, just outside of Sioux Falls. They are celebrating Claire’s graduation from college, and Dean couldn’t be prouder of the kid. He talks Cas into buying her the cheesiest greeting card they can find, paired with the most beautiful gun in the entire bunker. It’s got engravings all over and Dean even finds somebody who puts “C.N.” onto the side of it. He would rather have Claire live a normal life, but he knows it’s not going to happen.
It appears like everybody in the hunter community got the invitation: Sam and Eileen, Mary, Donna, the Banes twins, even Garth and Bess together with their kids. It’s not often hunters get to celebrate something, so everybody immediately jumped the opportunity. It’s a beautiful day, and at some point, Dean finds himself standing next to Claire.
“So, when you gonna put a ring on it?” she asks, nodding over to Castiel, who is chasing his little namesake all over the lawn in a playful game. Dean’s heart swells at the thought of this man being his husband. They hunt less and less these days, especially since Sam decided to move in with Eileen. It’s still a secret, but he and Cas recently bought a house in the same street as them. It might finally be time to leave the hunting life behind.
“There’s no rush,” Dean simply answers, trying his best not to settle on the thought. If he’d ever marry someone, it probably would be Cas. His eyes are still fixed on the laughing figure when Claire continues speaking.
“Whatever, old man. But if you ever want to tie the knot, just call me,” she says, shrugging with her shoulder. When Dean looks at her with a raised eyebrow, she continues. “I’m actually a licensed officiant, not that it would matter for you two anyways. Could marry you just like that –“
She snaps her fingers, before taking a gulp of her soda. Dean looks over to Cas again, his thoughts running in his head. What if…? The idea seems insane to him, but Claire seems to catch his thoughts. A smile breaks over her face: “Go ahead, dude. Just ask him.”
“Don’t want to steal your thunder, kid.”
“There would be no thunder without you,” she confesses, and Dean can’t help but pull her into a tight hug. He never expected to have kids, but he loves Claire just like his own blood. Her first weeks in college were rough, he remembers. But every time she came close to quitting, she’d call Dean. At this point, she’s just as much his kid as Jack, and he couldn’t be prouder of the people they’ve become.
When they step apart, Claire pulls a necklace from her neck. Two golden rings are connected on it, and Dean immediately knows who they belonged to.
“Here, this one should fit,” she says and presses the larger ring into his shaking hands. Dean mutters an honest thanks, smacking a gentle kiss on her forehead, before sprinting over the lawn.
“Hey Cas, can we talk for a moment?”
“You’re not dragging me into a closet again, are you?” Castiel laughs, but willingly follows his boyfriend a few feet away from the crowd.
“If I remember correctly, you rather enjoyed that…,” Dean counters with a grin, before kissing the angel gently. Cas is still smiling against his lips, and Dean pulls away with a deep breath.
“I have an idea…well, actually Claire had the idea, but I think it’s kinda awesome. And since everyone we love is already here, it would just be such a good opportunity and…”
“Dean,” Cas simply says, putting a stop to Dean’s blabbering.
“Will you marry me? Tonight? I know, you actually deserve a much better proposal and a wedding that doesn’t take place in flannel, but I love you so very very much”
Dean’s stammered words are silenced by a loving kiss. When they pull apart, Cas is smiling brighter than the sun.
“I’ve adored you ever since the moment I touched your soul in hell, of course, I’ll marry you”
The biggest smile flashes over Dean’s face, and Cas returns it just as much. A moment later, a loud shout draws their attention over to the cabin, where Claire is cheering in a way, that reminds them far too much of Dean. And when they tell everyone else, the mood just keeps going up.
It’s not a traditional wedding, but then again, their whole lives aren’t exactly normal. Jack insists on being the flower girl, even though Dean and Sam try their best to correct it to “flower-boy”. The music comes from a beaten-up boombox, which plays “November Rain” on repeat and the couple agrees not to exchange vows, deciding to wait with them until they can talk privately.
Dean’s hands shake when he slips the ring onto Castiel’s finger. It’s only now that he realizes they only got one ring, but before Dean can freak out, the angel pulls another golden band from his pocket.
“Where did you get that ring from?” Dean asks, and Cas casts a glance over to Jody, who is currently trying to stop crying. They barely knew her husband, and sometimes Dean still feels a pinch of guilt they couldn’t save him. The ring, he knows, is not only a final peace offering but an official invitation to the family. Dean shoots her a thankful smile, and she just nods in return.
“Speak now, or forever hold your peace,” Claire announces from the front, but the crowd remains luckily silent.
“We’ve been waiting for ages, no way we’re going to object now,” Sam shoots from the side, making everybody laugh. If Dean wasn’t close to bawling his eyes out, he’d probably throw a witty remark at his brother.
“Well then,” Claire says, clearly holding tears back herself. “I shall pronounce you officially hitched!”
Everyone cheers when Cas pulls Dean in a kiss, marking the beginning of a new chapter. The rest of the evening passes in a blur: they dance, they sing, Sam proposes to Eileen, Claire and Kaia finally get together, and Dean and Cas once again find themselves fooling around in a closet. But it’s perfect in every way.
Not every family contains of two parents and a bunch of kids. For them, family contains of two washed-up hunters, their time-traveling mom, a badass Irish huntress, a fallen angel, the devil’s son, and dozens of other people they got to know over the years. Bobby once told Dean, family don’t end in blood, but it doesn’t start there either.
And as Dean watches his happy and fucked-up family, his hand tightly holding onto his husband, he just knows truer words were never spoken.

Dean Winchester: a man full of love for the world that didn’t appreciate him. He was a hunter, hero, and saviour. Not that he’d ever call himself anything like that, he was too modest. It was just the family business, saving people, hunting things. And Y/N was lucky, or not so lucky, to experience all of this with him. As his friend.
Even if it pained Y/N to be near Dean; his charm, his sense of humour, his body, his warmth, all she wanted was to have him closer. Have them be skin to skin, holding onto another tightly in a lover’s embrace. All Y/N wanted was for him to hold her tight, to whisper that he loved her. But she realised, a long time ago, that Dean Winchester would never see her as anything other than a friend.
The sight of Dean flirting his way across the towns they visited, and the types of women he had fallen into bed with, made it clear that all they’d ever be was friends. He acted so candidly with these beautiful creatures and Y/N would never compare to them. Y/N didn’t look anything like the women he was interested in, she wasn’t his type in the slightest. Dean never looked at her with lust or directed that cheeky smirk her way.
Y/N had long ago settled for the relationship that they had, it had to be enough. She had to stop daydreaming about Dean and if there were more meaning to the way he pulled her into a shoulder hug after a successful hunt. The way he tended to the wounds across her body as if she was a delicate flower about to wilt at the feel of a heavy hand. Or how he’d kiss the top of her head as she drifted to sleep against his shoulder as he drove the Impala.
Those were the most intimate moments, and it had her clutching to the idea of him being more than a fellow hunter and companion. Those sweet daydreams were enough to let all worries disappear and bring her hope. If only he dreamed a little dream of me.
In reality, Y/N would only be Dean’s friend, and that was final. She tucked away her feelings into the smallest part of her being, locked and hidden from everyone. Because, to have a small amount of love from Dean, even if platonic, was enough.
Tumblr media
Y/N had learnt to distract herself, to steer away from the daydreaming and getting lost in his beautiful eyes. She’d preoccupy herself with a game on her phone whenever Dean appeared looking dashing or when he’d stepped out of a steaming shower; his glistening torso and the loosely wrapped towel had been a long tormented situation until she learnt to avoid looking his way.
Coffee would be buzzing through her system so that she didn’t fall asleep unexpectedly against him and when injuries occurred, she began dealing with them on her own just to avoid his touch. It wasn’t so bad to do it by herself, she’d done it before. But, as much as Y/N tried to avoid Dean, it was inevitable that something would come to test her.
It came in the form of Dean’s idea of pretending to be a couple in a restaurant in the hope of catching the witch causing havoc in the small town in the middle of nowhere. Y/N told yourself over and over - ‘this isn’t real, we are just friends.’ But nothing prepared her for the moment she walked into the motel room. The thought hadn't even crossed her mind as they left Sam at the bunker and travelled across state lines for the next hunt.
Y/N’s eyes blew wide at the sight before her. One bed. One fucking bed.
Dean was completely oblivious to the conflict that raged in Y/N’s head and went straight into the bathroom. At least it gave Y/N some privacy and a moment to breathe. But how could she when her mind swam with hundreds of thoughts all at once? It was like the gods were playing a cruel trick. How were they going to sleep in the same bed, together? And how could she possibly even sleep with him lying next to her? The running water of the shower did little to discourage the more intimate thoughts.
To quiet the voices in her head, she took a seat and looked through the little research that Dean had gathered. The distraction worked for a while, at least until he returned to the room in his loungewear and inspected the suit that Y/N had hung up neatly. She watched him with incredulous disbelief as he grabbed the remote for the television before he climbed onto the bed.
Dean settled back on the mattress, flicked through the channels until he found something decent to watch and placed his arms at the back of his head.
He turned his gaze to her, “are you going to just sit there or join me?”
Y/N frowned, “shouldn’t we ask for a different room and do some more research?”
Dean’s focus had already returned to the television, “this is the only room available. We haven’t got to do anything until this evening so just relax.”
Reasoning with herself that if Dean thought it was a problem then he’d say something, she took the spot beside him and lost herself in the drama unfolding on the small screen at the foot of the bed. It was the first time in a long time that she felt relaxed around the older Winchester, even if she was worried about sinking back into old habits.

The opaque garment bag was hooked to the back of the bathroom door, Y/N could see it in the corner of her eye as she readjusted the towel around her body and continued to finish her makeup in the small mirror. It felt like the dress was taunting her, it wasn’t something she’d usually wear, and it had made her feel self-conscious from the moment she pulled it out of the depths of the wardrobe back at the bunker.
The zip on the bag got stuck and almost caught the fabric of the navy dress inside but once it was out of the plastic cover, Y/N inspected it for any tears, but it all seemed to be okay. With the dress now on full display, she backed away and perched on the closed toilet seat. She was stepping into new territory and needed a moment to process it.
Y/N had worn the dress once before, about two years ago. She’d become stuck in her ways and used to the comfort of jeans or leggings paired with baggy tops. It wasn’t that she didn’t like the dress, it’s just that she knew that it would look and feel different compared to before.
What if it shows all my lumps and bumps? I’m going to look pathetic compared to Dean, will anyone believe that we are on a date? Doubt it.
A light knock on the door brought Y/N’s attention back to the reality of getting ready for their hunt and date. The towel was discarded to the floor and she pulled the dress over her head, hoping not to smudge her makeup.
Dean spoke, his voice muffled through the door panel, “we’ve got to go in ten minutes.”
“Just a minute,” Y/N replied and finished adjusting the thin straps and smoothed out the skirt of the mid-length dress.
With one final look in the mirror and a deep breath, she opened the bathroom door.

Y/N had never imagined this would be how the evening would go; sitting in a fine restaurant with Dean Winchester - he was the perfect date, even if it wasn’t a real one. She couldn’t help but wonder if this is what Dean was really like on a date. That Y/N might have caught a glimpse of what it would be like to get his attention.
After three glasses of wine and their delicious meal, the pair of them remained out of luck; there was no sign of the witch or potential victims. Dean paid for their dinner, even after Y/N’s protests to split the check.
The stroll back to the Impala was enough time for Y/N’s thoughts to turn negative. It was as if the second they walked out of the restaurant that reality came crashing down around her. It wasn’t a real date and it never would be because she was not Dean’s type. Y/N didn’t look like those women and she never would, no matter how she looked tonight. It’s not what Dean wanted.
Y/N sunk into the cold leather, it stung against her exposed skin; goosebumps rose across her flesh until the heavy material of Dean’s jack was draped over her. The action made Y/N flinch as she hadn’t realised how close Dean was until he was gone.
“Thank you,” was all she could muster, “and for tonight.”
He smiled softly, “you’re welcome.”
Dean pulled up outside the motel room but neither of them rushed to leave. Hope blossomed in Y/N’s heart, that just maybe Dean didn’t want this to end either. That thought bashed away all the negatives as he turned in his seat. His eyes roamed her face for a moment and a lopsided grin formed. His eyes crinkling at the corners in the way that Y/N adored.
His smile reminded her of the ones he’d given to many women over the years, but this one seemed different; there was a glint in his eyes that made Y/N question if those other smiles weren’t genuine. That this one was real.
“D’ya know it’s been over four years since we met.” He looked back out into the almost empty parking lot before Y/N could nod in response, “and guess what today is?”
Y/N looked at him in confusion, today was no different to any other day. Except, it would be forever etched in her heart as the day she almost went on a date with Dean Winchester and lived to tell the tale.
Dean continued to look out into the dark sky, the stars shining brightly above them, mixed in with the glow of the motel lights.
“It’s been a year since we took down that vampire nest in New Orleans,” Dean mentioned.
Vampires and New Orleans was a whirlwind hunt; one which left Y/N with severe injuries. Nothing was broken but the blow to her ribs had been enough for her to be winded and have heavy bruising for weeks. Y/N ended up on bed rest at the Bunker for at least a month before Sam and Dean allowed her to go on another hunt.
Dean sighed, his head rolling over to look at Y/N once more, “a year since I realised something.”
A shiver ran over her body from the way his voice dropped lower and could barely say more than a whisper as she got lost in his emerald gaze, “what was that?”
“That you mean a lot to me,” Dean responded, not a fleck of a waiver in his tone.
In the dim light of the lamps, his hand nudged along the seat of Baby towards Y/N’s. At the sight of the intimate gesture, she slid her hand closer. Y/N’s body hummed with butterflies as his fingers laced over her own. This wasn’t a dream or a fantasy, this was real.
Y/N glanced up to see Dean was already looking at her intently and that’s when she realised, she hadn’t said anything, “you mean a lot to me too Dean.”
A sigh fell from Dean’s plump lips before he leant forward and cupped her cheek with his other hand. Within a heartbeat, Dean’s face neared Y/N’s, eyes closing on instinct as she awaited his kiss.
Dean’s lips softly brushed against her own, a ghost of a kiss, then he pecked a little harder while his thumb caressed the apple of her cheek. Even though Y/N couldn’t believe this was happening, she wasn’t going to hold back any longer and as he pulled away, she gripped the back of his neck and pressed her mouth harder against him.
Y/N poured every ounce of her feelings into it, shifting closer to him and running her hands through his short hair as his arm wrapped around her waist. A flicker of his tongue across her bottom lip and his hand stroking down her back sent a wave of pleasure to her aching core.
A soft moan escaped Y/N’s mouth as he massaged the flesh of her ass, giving his tongue a chance to explore her further. The urgency of the kiss heightened as she shifted to straddle his lap but before she had a chance to move Dean pulled away, his hands settling on her biceps.
“I think we should slow down. Can we at least go inside?” Dean asked.
Her head fell back in laughter, and with a nod, Dean pulled Y/N out of the car and towards the motel room. As he fiddled with the lock, something dawned on her; why did he wait a year to tell her? The creaking of the door and the tug on his hand had her following behind.
“Now, where were we?” Dean pulled Y/N close to him, her hands resting against his broad chest.
“I think you were going to tell me why you waited so long to do anything?” She raised her brow at him and tapped his chest with her index finger.
Dean smirked and took a seat at the edge of the bed, patting his thigh for Y/N to join him. Y/N bit her lip and perched on Dean’s knee, arms wrapping around his neck while Dean held her close around the waist, one of his hands stroking her hip. The sensation was driving her wild, but she wanted to know why he hadn’t made a move before now.
“I did sweetheart,” Dean kept his focus on her eyes, “you responded to everything, I was going to do something about it once I knew for sure but then I noticed you had started hanging out with Sam or throwing yourself into research. I thought I’d read everything wrong and that’s when I thought that maybe you were pulling away.”
Y/N listened to every word, nodding for him to continue as her heart raced at his confession; all those moments were real. Not only had Dean been feeling the same way, but he’d also been daydreaming about her too.
“I honestly thought you felt the same way when you fell asleep next to me when we watched that show you like, erm-” Dean paused, his brow scrunching together.
Y/N could see the cogs ticking and chuckled because she knew exactly what he was talking about and wanted to see if he knew, give him the chance to win this moment.
“-Gossip Girl!” He grinned at his triumph, “yeah, you turned over and your hand grabbed mine. Well, it meant a lot.”
“And then you set this up?” Y/N asked with a slight smirk on her lips and a raised eyebrow.
Dean pulled back, his face blank at first, only for a blush to form across his freckled cheeks, “how did you know?”
Y/N’s hands tugged at his collar, loosening the tie, “well, for starters, you did the research.”
He rolled his eyes and then focused on Y/N once more as her fingers made light work of the buttons. Following her lead, he found the zipper at the back of the dress, tugging it down slowly. Excitement pooled in Y/N’s belly and her skin simmered with pleasure at his actions.
“Then, you didn’t want to snoop around the restaurant.” Y/N stood up, letting the dress drop to the ground.
The confidence in her appearance grew tenfold as Dean’s eyes darkened at her matching lacy underwear and the way his tongue darted out to wet his lips. She stepped out of the dress and heels, dropping to her knees in front of Dean and unbuckled his belt.
“Not only that, but there are no other cars in the parking lot and a bright ‘vacancies’ sign outside.”
With her bottom lip brought between her teeth, she glanced up at Dean, “which means that you planned all of this.”
Y/N gripped the slacks at his hips and tugged them down, exposing the hard length that tented his boxers. She couldn’t help the way her mouth watered at the sight of him above her but before she could reach to pull down his boxers, Dean had gripped her arms and pulled her up to his level.
“Well done smarty-pants, now come here.”
Dean’s lips crashed to hers, a fever of pleasure and affection dripping from the kiss as they collapsed back onto the mattress. Their bodies tangled together, heat radiated from them both as they grasped at limbs and kissed without abandon.
That night, they started making up for the year that they had missed out on. The year that they’d both been too hesitant, lost in their daydreams instead of basking in the reality of their love.

Silence was a rare occurrence in the bunker, even more so when everyone was home. Despite the place being vast and wide with countless rooms to occupy, you and the boys typically stuck with the same out of functionality and comfort. One room in particular quickly turned into a personal favorite among all of you when you moved in almost a year ago. The library was the perfect spot to get research done for an upcoming hunt and lounge around with a drink after a job well done. It was also the only spot where it was impossible to hear actual quietness. No sounds of talking or obscene noises that ruined the reason why Sam wanted to be here in the first place.
Out of all the rooms the bunker had to offer, it was obvious to Sam the library was his most favorite of it all. Just like you and his brother. You enjoyed it for the perfect atmosphere that it brought for research. Dean loved the comfy chairs and expensive liquor he drank on the odd occasions. It might have  been easy to guess that Sam loved the library for the several shelves of books on lore. A hunter's dream come true. While that was part of it, there were little gems spread around that had caught his attention. First editions of classic novels he heard of before, and a few he discovered by accident. Sam forgot the last time he was able to read a book that wasn't for learning about a monster or figuring out how to undo the mess of Heaven. All he wanted to do was sit down with a good book and just relax. Today felt like the day he might be able to do that.
Sam called out his brother's name first, a few seconds later it was followed by Kevin's. His answer was dead silence. A smile crept on the edges of his lips when he stepped into the library to see that it was perfect. You looked up from your laptop when you heard Sam's voice break your concentration from what you had been working on. Dean was off somewhere else while Kevin decided to work on the translations in a different part of the bunker, hoping a change of scenery might help him focus better. You turned your attention back to the laptop to continue working, filling the air with the sounds of your keyboard tapping. A familiar tune that brought the younger Winchester back to his college days. Sam decided to join you.
Sam made his way over to the bookshelf, the exact one he'd come in here for, and glanced over the several battered hardcovers. He pretended to casually gloss over the titles as he glanced over his shoulder to make sure his brother was still gone. You wouldn't have cared about the fact that he plucked off a red cover novel that he couldn't stop thinking about. One with a familiar title of a land you both had thought was fictional. Filled with characters by the name of Dorothy and the Wicked Witch, who were in fact real people. Sam had been itching to read the series for himself to get a taste of the real magic, a fraction of the adventures Charlie was having in Oz.
Sitting down in the chair nestled in the corner, Sam happily got himself comfortable and opened up the book to the first page, with a little too much eagerness for a series that was supposed to be written for children. No one was too old for a classic tale. However, right before Sam could even read the first word, he overheard a noise over your typing and occasional clip from the trackpad. It sounded like vibrations. A slight annoyed look crossed his face at the disruption. It only deepened when Sam watched as you continued to sit there, mindlessly scrolling through whatever was keeping your attention. Sam passively shut the book a little too loudly. You still didn't acknowledge the vibrating phone on the table across from your own.
"Please, let me." Sam muttered to himself. He set his book aside on another shelf and reluctantly made his way over to the phone. Glancing down at the caller I.D., it turned out to be a number he wasn't familiar with. Not the one to ignore a call, he pulled the charger out from the plug and answered before it could go to voicemail. "Hello?" The voice on the other line was male, and not one he was able to recognize. You finally glanced up from your laptop from what you heard next. Sam smiled to himself at the ridiculous nickname for whomever they were trying to reach. "I'm sorry, there's no Dee-dawg, uh..."
"I got it. I got it." Dean came out of nowhere, seeming to have heard the conversation from wherever he was, and plucked the phone out from his brother's hand. "Sonny, hey. So, what's up?" You shut your laptop and got up from your seat at hearing the one-sided conversation unfold, curious as to who was on the other end. Never in your life did you hear someone use a nickname like that on Dean. You wondered who this Sonny guy was. "All right. Yeah, just sit tight. I'll be there soon as I can."
You made your way over to the boys right as Dean ended the call. You casually crossed your arms over your chest and sat down on the edge of the table, a little curious as to who contacted him. "So, what was that all about, Dee-dwag?" You couldn't help the smile that crossed your face at the nickname that sounded childish coming out from your mouth.
"Sammy, you remember when we were kids that spring in upstate New York?" Dea tried to spark an old memory in his brother's mind, despite how their childhood wasn't spent in one place for very long. They'd visited so many different places, so many small towns with motels that blurred into the same place. "Dad was on a rugaru hunt. We crashed at the, uh...the bungalow colony with the ping-pong table?'
"Yeah. You disappeared. Dad came back. You were gone. He shipped me off to Bobby's for a couple and went and found you." Sam remembered the details from the time he was twelve. While the small details were a bit fuzzy, there was no forgetting the moments when his father got beyond angry after coming back from a hunt to see disaster had struck. "You were lost on a hunt or something.”
Dean's expression changed at hearing his brother's version of the story that differed from his own, almost like it refreshed his own memory. "That’s what we told you. Right."
"I'm sorry?" You were caught off guard at what Dean said. John was never going to be father of the year in your eyes. He was a lot of things, but a liar was not one of them. You furrowed your brow in confusion. "That's what you told Sam?"
"Truth is, uh..." Dean came clean with the real version of what really happened all those years ago while you continued to listen. You and his brother both appeared to be interested as to why John felt the need to keep up the lie for so many years. What could have been so bad that Sam wasn't able to know? "I lost the food money  that Dad left for us in a card game. I knew you'd get hungry, so...I tried taking the five-finger discount at the local market and got busted. I wasn't on a hunt. They sent me to a boys' home."
"A boys' home, like a...reform school?" You took a wild guess as to where he ended up for those few months. You didn't understand the need to cover up the truth, and why John let him stay there for all that time. You weren't a personal fan of the way John raised his children, having made a remark here and there over the years, you figured it was for the best to keep some things to yourself. It might have been one of the few moments in Dean's life where there was an actual proper guardian looking over him. Beside Bobby, of course.
"Yeah, more or less. It was a farm, and the guy who ran it—Sonny—he, you know, he looked after me." Dean told you the rest of the story. You always enjoyed meeting people from the boys' past, it was almost like getting to discover another part of their tangled and strange childhood.
"Wait." Sam was caught up on one detail as to why the older man was calling out of the blue. People from their past don't call just to say hello, unless there was a problem attached to that greeting in need of solving. "Does Sonny know what we do?"
"Yeah. He's good people. I gave him the number to the Bat Phone, and it sounds like he's got something in our wheelhouse." Dean said. You nodded your head in agreement at the plan. Sometimes people were believers in the supernatural, sometimes it took a strange phenomenon for them to understand. You covered your mouth with your hand when you found yourself letting out a yawn, which didn't go unnoticed. "Hey, you gonna be cool do this, or are you too tired?”
"Yeah, I'm just, uh..." You pushed yourself up to your feet and tried to get yourself to feel more awake. You blamed your sluggishness on the lack of your usual amount of caffeine. There was no way you were missing out on a hunt because you felt tired. "I'll be fine."
Dean wanted to take your word on that alone, but he wanted to be sure. He placed a hand on the back of a chair and balanced the other on the table, leaning down to ask you an odd sounding question. "And everybody's okay with heading out to the Catskills?"
You found yourself looking around the library to see who Dean might be talking to, despite the fact he was making full eye contact with you. You raised your brow slightly and smiled at his behavior. "Unless Sammy has other reservations, we are everybody.”
"Yeah. Right. All right." Dean stood back up into a standing position, pretending like everything was back to normal once more. You didn't see the strange look Sam passed his brother from the way he was acting about a certain someone. "Grab your stuff, and we'll head out."
You rolled your eyes as you watched Dean make his way out the library to pack a few things for the hunt ahead of you. Before he could get too far, Sam stopped him. He needed to ask a question of his own about the conversation spoken just a few moments ago. "Hey, Dean...why didn't you just tell me you went to a boys' home?"
"I don't know. It was Dad's idea." Dean said. "And it just—you know, the story became the story. I was sixteen."
For some reason you felt like Dean wasn't telling you the whole story. It felt out of character for John to make up some lie to Sam. A parent would most likely make this a teachable moment. Screw up enough and you'll end up in a boys' home for a few months. You looked over at Sam to see he shared the same confused expression as yourself.
+ + +
You weren't sure what to expect when you made it to the Catskills where Sonny's home was nestled in. You heard of homes for troubled youth for behavior and crimes that weren't drastic enough for juvenile hall. An alternative that was the epitome of tough love for kids with parents who reached their end, or for those who didn’t care enough to bother trying at all. "Sonny's Home For Boys'' greeted you and the brothers of the establishment where Dean spent a few months by himself. It turned out to be exactly like Dean said, it was just a farm that had seen better days with a cozy looking home nestled on top of the hill.
Dean parked the Impala on the dirt road that led up to the house and got out, you and Sam following quickly after. He glanced around the area to see if it might still look the way he remembered. You swore you saw a smile across his face when you happened to glance over his way, the kind someone got when returning to a happy memory. You took a look around yourself to see what made this so special. For a kid who spent his entire life from town to town, stability was something he might have craved. He had his own bed for a couple of months. Dean didn't have to worry about taking care of someone for those two months besides himself...You wondered if that’s why Dean kept it a secret.
"You were here for two months and Dad couldn't find you?" Sam examined the farm for himself to try and see what was so special about this place that made Dean want to stay. It was another small town with acres of farmland that most likely was taken care of by the boys who stayed here. Not exactly paradise for a sixteen year old who'd been all over the country to settle for a little while.
"Oh, no. He found me quick. But he left me here 'cause I lost our money." Dean told you the reason for his extended stay, following a chuckle like it was all some funny story. You and Sam shared the same unamused sort of expression when the both of you happen to turn your heads to look at one another.
"You were sixteen." You came to the older man's defense to try and realize the punishment was a little harsh for something stupid. When you were at that age, what few months you still had left of teenage bliss, you fooled around and got yourself into deep trouble. Maybe not gambling away food money while your father abandoned you for God knows how long while you were forced to take care of another sibling...still, you felt the punishment didn't fit the crime. "You made a mistake."
"Yeah. I made the mistake." Dean said, seeming to refuse to try and see things from your perspective. "Look, I know how you guys think. None of this was Dad's fault."
Was it ever in the eyes of Dean? You kept your thoughts to yourself and trailed behind the boys as you made your way up the porch steps. Dean knocked on the door and waited a few seconds before someone answered. It was a middle aged woman who opened up, leaving the screen door as a barrier between you and her. You noticed right away from the stern look on her face she didn't seem too pleased to see three strangers standing on the porch. You figured Sonny didn't tell her company was coming. You spotted the gold cross that hung from her neck, the size of it was too hard not to miss. A holy woman helping run a boys' home. There was nothing scarier than a God fearing woman.
The woman crossed her arms over her chest when Dean offered a friendly smile and a polite hello. "What can I do for you kids?"
"I'm Dean. This is my brother, Sam. And this is our friend, Y/N." Dean introduced all of you. "We're old buddies of Sonny's."
"Prison buddies?" She was quick to judge, causing Sam to clear his throat at the quick escalation of who Sonny was before even meeting him. You softly nudged the man in the ribs and gave him a side-eyed glare before smiling at the woman.
"No." Dean said. "You mind telling him that we're here?"
"I'll go get him." She responded a few seconds later, taking the time to give all of you a once over in some kind of way to make sure you were decent people. Not some strangers from Sonny's past he had all left where it should stay. Dean opened up the screen door and was about to step inside, but she stopped him before doing such a thing. "I just mopped this floor, so you take off those roach stompers."
Not the one to make a bad impression, you and the boys listened, slipping off your shoes so they laid on the porch before stepping inside. Sam felt the need to bring up a small fact about the man who ran this place, finding it rather odd someone who had a run-in with the law now helped troubled youth. "Sonny's an ex-con, huh?"
"What, and we're such angels?" Dean scoffed at his brother's passive judgement on the guy before he got the proper chance to meet him. "Trust me, he's more than made up for it."
Dean stepped inside the home first with you and his brother following behind. You looked around while Dean took everything in about the place that hadn't changed since the last time he was here almost twenty years ago. The furniture was still the same as he remembered, Sonny even kept the awards in the same spot of their accomplishments. Dean didn't realize how much he missed this place, despite not wanting to be here at first when he was a teenage punk who gave the cop who arrested him a black eye. He might still have the same sarcastic charm and hatred for authority when he was a kid, but there was no doubt in his mind Sonny taught him some valuable lessons during his stay here.
"Dee-dwag!" You heard that ridiculous nickname again, this time coming from the man who gave it to Dean. You saw an older man step out from another room with a wide smile on his face at the sight of the fully grown Winchester.
"Sonny, good to see you." Dean greeted the man with the same happiness in his voice. He embraced the man into a tight hug after meeting up again after so many years apart.
"Hey, you, too, brother." Sonny said. Pulling away, he noticed that Dean didn't make the journey up here alone. He was quick to notice the tall man looming around was the little brother Dean talked so much about. "Oh, and this must be Sam."
“Good to meet you.” Sam greeted the man with a friendly smile of his own.
"Back at you, brother." Sonny grabbed the younger Winchester's hand to shake when he stuck it out before dropping it back down to his side. He finally turned his attention to you, trying to put a name to a face. “I don’t believe Dean mentioned you before.”
"Sonny, this is my girlfriend, Y/N Y/L/N.” Dean rarely introduced you as such to people. Most of the time it was either hunting partner or family friend to strangers from his past. For some reason he felt the need to tell Sonny the deeper relationship you had with him. "She's a close family friend of ours. We’ve known each other since we were born. Circumstances broke us apart, but we actually reunited back together a year after I left this place." You looked over at him and smiled, the thought of seventeen soon-to-be eighteen Dean was a drastic difference to the man who stood in front of you today.
"Good for you." Sonny seemed to be proud at hearing Dean had landed himself in a happy relationship. From the way you two looked at each other it was easy to tell he was head over heels in love. "He ain't giving you too much trouble now, has he?"
"Not anymore than usual. But it’s what I signed up for." You joked with Sonny. You lightly tapped Dean on his chest and flashed him a smile. “Good thing I love him.”
Dean couldn't help the bashful sort of smile that crossed his face at hearing you say those three words to him. Normally they were saved for private moments where no one could hear you. You carelessly tossed them around and meant them. Dean felt a spark of pride hit him out of nowhere for some reason. As if he was showing Sonny he ended up okay for himself.
"So," Dean continued on with the conversation. "The farm looks."
"Oh, please, man. It's barely standing." Sonny brushed off the empty compliment that was just the polite way to make small talk before going in for the real reason why all of you were here. "Only got a handful of kids working around here."
Dean's face scrunched up slightly at hearing that news. When he was here back in the day, almost every bed was taken here with no one left without a job to do as instructed by Sonny. "Why's that?"
"Because these days, the system would rather incarcerate a boy than redeem him." Sonny replied.
"Hey, Sonny, uh," Sam happened to look across over to the dining room to spot the woman who answered the door was lingering around in an obvious sort of way. She was wiping an already clean table with a rag. You could tell she was trying to eavesdrop. Sam made sure to drop his voice to a whisper as he casually crossed his arms over his chest. "You mind if we talk alone?"
"Hey, Ruth," Sonny looked over his shoulder to see she was lingering around for whatever reason why. Maybe she wanted to know why a bunch of strangers from Sonny’s past decided to come by without a warning. "Would you please go check on the boys, make sure their money chores are getting done?"
Ruth hesitantly nodded her head before making her way somewhere far enough away to keep the conversation going without worry. "All right." Dean jumped to the real reason why all of you were here in the first place. "So, what's happening?"
"Well, you remember Jack, do you?" Sonny asked.
Dean nodded his head. "Yeah. The tough, old leatherneck."
"Mmhm. Well, somehow, that ancient, rusty, broken-down tractor just roared to life and ran him over the other night." Sonny shared the strange and unfortunate news of an old worker here who suffered a strange and terrible sounding death that was out of the ordinary.
"Maybe it just slipped out of park or something." You guessed, trying to figure out a more logical reason behind it.
"Couldn't have. You know, I never believed any of this mumbo-jumbo stuff you kids are into, but...something ain't right." Sonny said. His concern made you a little bit curious as to what he meant by all of that. "Well, just things started happening—lights flickering on and off, strange scratching sounds coming from inside the walls, windows and doors slamming."
"All right. You think you can round up the boys while we take a look around?" Dean asked, having heard enough to suspect of what might be going on around here.
"Well, that shouldn't be a problem. Most are home on a break—well, except those with no home worth going to." Sonny said.
Sonny went on to round up the boys so they wouldn't be around to disturb any of you when you got to the bottom of figuring out what might be going on. "All right. Why don't you and Y/N take the house?" Dean suggested a plan to you and his brother. "I'll check the barn."
The both of you nodded your head in agreement before going your own seperate ways to get a proper sweep of the house. Sam decided to take the upstairs part of the house while you stuck with the downstairs, thinking you might be able to cover more ground that way while Dean stuck with the parts of the farm he was familiar with. You took a sweep of the main parts of the house to see there was nothing out of the ordinary from what you usually looked for in this situation; no EMF, no sulfur and not a trace of a hex bag. Even though what Sonny described was typically signs of a spirit, it didn't hurt to check off all the boxes just to be safe if things ended up not being what you thought.
Soon enough you made your way into the bedroom area where the boys slept after a hard day’s work. You spotted at least a half dozen twin sized beds spread around the place. Some of them were messy, a few of them were perfectly made. Sonny was right about there not being a lot of boys anymore. You looked around the place to see it almost seemed like any other bedroom. Plenty of furniture, some toys and board games lying around. You realized that this was the exact same room Dean spent two months in when he was sixteen. And you got confirmation he was here when you spotted something engraved into one of the beds.
Your fingers brushed over a hunting symbol carved into the bedpost that was most likely done by Dean himself. A smile crossed your face at the thought of teenage Dean protecting himself from evil while alone from his family, despite it only being his brother and absent father. You crouched down when you spotted some masking tape on the foot of the bed as well, making up as some kind of nameplate. Out of curiosity, you pulled off the first layer, revealing another name that you guessed belonged to another boy who slept in this bed previously. You pulled off another piece of tape, and another, and another until you came across the one you had been looking for—Dean W.
Your head snapped away from the tape and to the door across the room when you heard rustling that broke your concentration. The door that led to the other room was opened slightly, giving you enough of a bad feeling not to go in there without some kind of precaution. Slowly, you pushed yourself back up to your feet and reached for the knife you kept tucked in the back of your jeans. You made your way over, taking cautious steps when you heard what sounded to be a whispering female voice. You didn’t take into consideration there might have been another bedroom located right next to the boys’, it was a small house after all. And it might have been Ruth’s. You discovered that a little too late.
You pushed open the door, expecting to find the thing who killed Jack standing across from you, only it turned out to be someone else. You quickly whipped the knife behind your back when you realized it was in fact Ruth. She had been kneeling at her bed before you scared her. "I am so sorry." You quickly apologized to the woman at the accidental mishap, suddenly feeling like a fool for mistaking her whispering for something evil when it was in fact most likely a prayer from the rosary beads that was tight in her grip. "I thought I saw something in—”
"Like a ghost?" Ruth's presumption made you look at her a little funny, wondering how she managed to come up with that conclusion on her own. "Sonny told me you were old friends, but I know why you're really here. That's why I was praying for us."
"Praying for what?"
"For the ghost that haunts this farm to leave."

Hi, I know you’re a fan of namjoon so I wanted to ask your thoughts on this ring thing? I’m kinda new and assumed all these namjoon is married with kids stuff were a joke. But some people seem to totally believe that. I mean where he’d get the time to see a partner and kids is beyond me but who knows? Anyways I was looking at some of their recent pics and he doesn’t wear it all the time - which if it was a couples ring - wouldn’t he? I thought maybe he would only wear it if they were appearing on Run or Korean shows, but he didn’t have it on for either of the new shows they’ve been on recently, as they may not have been as widely watched. I mean I guess it’s none of our business - but I’m trying to rip of my delulu hat for making me think Seokjin gave it to him 🙈
Hi anon, I hope you don’t mind that I’ll combine my answer for you with my answer to another ask since I feel like they fall into the same kind of category, as in people taking things too far and/or blowing things out of proportion. And, coincidentally, both have something to do with rings.
I’ll start with your question though and give you another example that followed a very similar trajectory as the omg namjoon is married with kids because ring narrative/theory. Some months ago, Namjoon posted a few pictures on twitter and among them was a picture of him with another guy wearing a green sweater. His face though was covered. At first ARMY didn’t think much of it, but then, eventually, someone started a joke that “remember that sweater Joon wore for BV4? The guy is wearing the same one, what if that's his boyfriend?” and it went viral.
It started out completely harmless with hundreds of positive and funny tweets made in good humor, no one taking it that seriously knowing that we’d never find out even if it were true. But, as the jokes started to simmer down, everyone had their laugh, the next wave came in and this one decided that this isn’t a joke at all but serious matter. Quickly this harmless fun turned into a witch hunt of “ARMY” trying to figure out who the guy might be, if he is Namjoon’s mysterious friend that once sent him a coffee truck with custom drawn designs on it, perhaps the same one with whom Namjoon already once posted a picture sitting on this garden porch swing type thing, some even trying to prove that the guy is either Seokjin (in which case, what would be the need to cover his face?) or Florist Isaac whom they met during that one RUN episode.
So, very quickly a few idiots turned harmless fun into something almost malicious and got into fights with ARMY who were trying to tell them to stop.
The ring thing followed a similar story. It was once a harmless joke based on the fact that Namjoon wants to have kids one day, so some made jokes about what if he’s already married but we just didn’t know etc. But very quickly that got out of hand as well, going as far as people claiming the little girl in his pictures which he posted around his birthday or something is his daughter (even though it was said it’s probably the child actress from BTS WORLD) and that him making jokes (during a BangtanB while trying on glasses before their MOTS7 press con) about his child being able to read/write hangul at a very young age wasn’t jokes at all but solid proof of the fact that he is married with a child (despite the fact that he would’ve had to have gotten married and his wife pregnant not long after their debut for the timeline to even work out somehow which makes it seem even more ridiculous). This even went as far as people spamming the comments during this vlives with questions about it, flooded his selcas on twitter with questions and “jokes” and, again, attacked anyone who told them to stop.
In all of this, watching it happen from the sidelines as someone whose bias is Namjoon, I was confused why these particular rings (which I don’t even think were the same ones each time) caused such a reaction. The members have all worn so many different rings over the years, on all fingers, sometimes even like eight at the same time, and yet it wasn’t until 2020 and their KBS interview after their first BBH100 #1 that things went bonkers. All because Namjoon decided to take the ring off before they started filming or something.
In all of this I see two things that make me wonder:
When would he have the time to find a girl (since same sex marriage is not a thing in Korea) with whom he would have enough time to befriend her, trust her (considering who Namjoon is, that one is a major thing), fall in love, date and be together for a few years, and then get married? From Seokjin we know they have maybe two or three days off a month and work at least ten hours a day on their BH regulated schedules. Add to that the time they spend in the studio working on music outside of schedules, gym time, a few hours of sleep, and perhaps a few scarce hours of free time to (in Namjoon’s case) go to a museum or ride his bike, does that really leave enough time for romance (with an outsider) that leads to marriage (and a child)?
Is age 26 at the height of their career really the time for marriage? Even more so when you are someone like Namjoon, the leader of the world’s biggest group with more responsibilities than we can likely imagine as outsiders. Sure, he said he wants kids, but he can still have those in his thirties, he can also get married in his thirties, after all, life does not end once you hit thirty despite what some teens believe.
Lastly, I actually think that if it were true, Namjoon, or really anyone from the hyung line, would be the ones who wouldn’t have to hide it, at least not when compared to the maknaes. You could argue that “it would threaten their career” but would it really? Perhaps if the ring were from a man (some namjinists did make jokes that it’s like his promise ring from Seokjin or whatever, but it was all in good fun, nothing more than that), then yes, but connected to a woman? That one member from EXO also came out and said he’s getting married because his fiancé was pregnant and all it did was cause a few fansites to close and a handful of people to “protest” in front of the SM building.
Little correction about my comments about that EXO member, though even with this my point still stands:
From anon: Re: your last post about namjoon’s rings! I agree with everything you said but just a small correction. I’m not an EXO stan but it wasn’t just a a few “protests” or fansites closing. From what I read online, he his fiancée and later wife, and his child were harassed, threatened and stalked to the point where he enlisted early just to give his family some relief. We all know there are people like this in every fandom and I know BTS would be aware of these things, so they’ll be extra careful.
Would there be delulus like this who’d go crazy if Namjoon were to say “ARMY, I’m (getting) married”? Of course. Would it ruin BTS’ career? I seriously doubt it. Do I think Namjoon would actually come out and say it if it were the case? No, but not because it’s bad idol etiquette or because BH wouldn’t allow him, but because people are insane and who knows what they would do.
It’s the same with times when people argue “I wish X ML members would just say he has a girlfriend so the ship wars would end” without taking into consideration the girl’s safety and the fact that a partner different than the one X member is shipped with has never been that big of an obstacle for some before. Just create a conspiracy theory about the company forcing this upon them and voila problem solved. We’ve seen that before when the tattoo scandal happened, and people thought JK might be dating that tattoo artist and therefore it would mean he isn’t in a relationship with Jimin or Tae.
Whatever happens in the members private lives, it is safer for all parties involved if it stays private, even more so if their romantic partners were non-idols, or non-celebrities, or another member.
Now onto the second ring question:
From anon: I am a young army and I am slowly losing my bearings. I've seen Vlive S, H and V. Many say it was a Tk*ok day (?) And all three emphasized it, and the V even wore the friendship ring for Jungkook. Is it true? I don't understand anything about it, I don't see it. After the last BTS interview on TV, I thought Vmin are best friends, not Tk*ok. I thought V said he didn't want Tk*ok and yet he was so happy during Vlive because it was Tk*ok day? Help!
Now this one, I was curious if we’d get an ask about this, even more since, if you’re a reader of our blog, you likely already know what I’m going to say.
Let’s start where you usually do—at the beginning. The day of the vlive coincided with what T*ek*okers have decided on is T*ek*ok Day, based on how supposedly some years ago this was the day Tae and JK named their subunit like this. I tried to find where exactly this happened, as in in which piece of official content, but I couldn’t find anything except for a screenshot. Anyone have a clue or a link?
Side note: T*ek*okers love using the “ship” naming as proof that not only are they real but also proudly showing it off by giving themselves a name but continently forget that they are not the only ones who gave themselves subunit names. After all Jimin and Namjoon named themselves MiniMoni, or Yoongi and Jimin who are MiniMini, Namjoon and Seokjin calling themselves RJRJ last year, or that one vlive with JK, Jimin and Seokjin where they also put together their names the way you build ship names. At the end of that vlive Tae, thanks to come prompting from the chat, named their trio vsope, so does that mean they are a romantic ship now too?
If you were watching that vlive as it was happening, and decided to look at the chat, then you know what was happening. For those who did not, basically the chat was flooded with comments about T*ek*ok Day, asking where JK is whom Tae loves, where his boyfriend JK is, congratulating Tae for T*ek*ok Day etc. Basically shippers took their shipping into a space where it doesn’t belong, into a space where the members can see it, and therefore purposefully broke one of the shipping rules (I even saw some tweet about how they were proud of themselves for literally spamming the chat with T*ek*ok comments which is so wrong, and I mean that regardless of which ship we talk about). In between those were the usual other comments like speak English or say hello to XYZ or say XYZ in whatever language, and very few comments that actually reacted to what the members were doing on screen. Like when Tae said he didn’t shave, instead of telling him that it’s fine, which it is, it’s his face after all, some decided to tell him he should shave more often, basically telling him what to do, which he saw and read out. Great job.
But all the madness came to a “climax” when Hobi was reading comments and among some other ones read out T*ek*ok, just the word not the T*ek*ok Day ones, and unfortunately we all knew he wasn’t reading out the Korean word for Thailand, which sounds the same though it is spelled a little differently. In that moment all hell broke loose. Focus cams of Tae’s facial expression in that moment went viral among shippers, most of course claiming he looked so happy, while other non-shippers claimed he didn’t look happy at all. It’s a micro moment so I won’t get into it, who knows what Tae thought in that moment and what his facial expression meant and if it even had any connection to the word and Hobi reading it out loud at all.
Because he read that comment, Hobi was basically crowned the new leader of the T*ek*ok shippers (I thought that role already went to Jimin?) and twitter basically had a meltdown.
As for the ring, I know this is something a lot of ships have, with romantic connotations according to their shippers, so I was curious how these rings supposedly look like in T*ek*ok’s case and if they even match the ring that Tae wore in the vlive. If it would, fine, if not, well…
Tumblr media
If it’s not clear from the picture, the “supposed couple” or friendship rings are very delicate and thin, and sure enough I did find a lot of pictures in which both Tae and JK wore them, usually at different times, I will admit that. But the ring Tae wore during their vlive recently was much thicker and had some kind of design on it, therefore it’s a completely different one. Sorry. Why he wore it, if he bought it for himself or received it from someone, what emotional connotation to may or may not have, those are things we won’t know anything about unless he would tell us, so there's no point in speculating.
“Many say it was a Tk*ok day (?) And all three emphasized it” now this is curious to me since I watched the vlive as it was happening, and I didn’t see that at any point in the vlive. Sure, Hobi read that one comment, but if 95% of comments were about that, I wasn’t even surprised by it. Perhaps he thought that it would get people to stop? Perhaps he just read whatever comments his eyes landed on? Perhaps something else entirely? We have no way of knowing it so there is no point in trying to fixate on it. But besides that, they were talking about many other things and having fun making their smoothies, decorating them and just having a good time together with each other and with ARMY.
So, this way of presenting the vlive basically comes down to shipper perception, confirmation bias, and simply, almost, rewriting history.
Rings do not determine who your best friend is (according to a quick google search, wearing a ring on your index finger simply means friendship or self-esteem/authority), after all many of the members have rings either from each other or ones that match, like Namjoon buying Jimin a Cartier ring for his birthday a few years ago which Jimin proudly wore since it’s really pretty, or pink and blue rings (there are several different ones, actually) that Namjoon has worn with Seokjin in the past (which fits into the Namjinist pink and blue agenda), or the rings Jimin and JK have together according to their shippers, and many more. Jimin and Tae have a whole plethora of matching jewelry in form of necklaces, rings, bracelets, even contact lenses (as in wearing one of each pair to match each other), some which were chosen by their stylists and others they bought themselves for themselves (which are all conveniently “forgotten” by those who ship either big ML ship). Though we’ve seen that even with clothes given by their stylists they were still the ones to choose their own accessories, like Namjoon choosing a pair of glasses from a whole box of different ones, or the members choosing rings from two big boxes before going on stage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tae himself said, on multiple occasions across multiple years, that Jimin is his best friend, even his one and only best friend, and that he’s the one he likes most which he even proclaimed on national TV. As long as Tae doesn’t say that this has changed in the last, what, two weeks and suddenly JK is officially his new best friend, those who claim otherwise are basically nothing but shippers pushing a narrative that willfully ignores Tae’s own words. Just like they ignore and twist his Weverse comment about how T*ek*okers should get out of their imagination. What doesn’t fit is ignored or adjusted until it does fit.
Lastly, sure enough, Tae really was happy during that vlive but I’m fairly certain (though neither you, them or I will ever know for sure, we’re not in Tae’s head) it had absolutely no connection to T*ek*ok Day, something shippers created and not Tae and JK themselves, seeing as Tae has been in a very good and happy mood for a few months now. Whatever makes him so happy, I truly hope it’ll continue making him happy and I wish shippers (and solo stans) would stop trying to force a reason (which fits them) upon his emotions.
I know it’s easy to get confused by how loud shippers are online, especially as young ARMY (in this case both ARMY who are young age wise but also young in the sense of being new to the fandom), but shipper opinions, in many cases, are just noise, and also noise twisted and skewed a certain way to suit them. If you kept to OT7 spaces on the day of that vlive, no one really paid attention to the ring, most were annoyed by and furious at the shamelessness of the shippers in the comments, and tried to just focus on how fun the vlive was instead.

hey all!  it’s nearly the end of the year now and it’s time to finish the list of my favorite 2020 fics! (you can find part i of this rec here !) I can’t thank these authors and anyone else who published things this year enough. it’s been many long months where a distraction was much needed, and we got such amazing content for FREE. being able to escape into another world for even just a few minutes right now is priceless.
to everyone who wrote something, read something, or simply made it through this year, kudos to you! wishing everyone a much more relaxing 2021 with even more amazing fics to come. :)  thank you guys for everything – happy holidays & new year, and happy reading!
there were so many good ones out this year and there’s no way I can include all of them, but I enjoyed so many more than just the ones on this list! the ones I picked just stood out to me for some reason based on how I was feeling or what I was going through at the time, and they all helped me in some way or another. :) not to mention, I am sooo behind on recent fics and most of the blff, so I will be making more recs slowly into the new year as well!
quick disclaimer! as with every time I put these together, this list is based on my own opinions and features a variety of different kinds of fics and tropes. I include the info next to them for a reason! please stick to your own preferences and leave any hate out of your choices. that being said, if you enjoy any of these, please leave the author a kudos, comment, or send them a message to let them know you liked it!

“I would choose anyone other than you,” Louis says, picking up his train of thought again. He feels a lot more cornered and defensive when they’re in Harry’s house, for some reason.
It doesn’t really make sense, considering that this time, Louis was the one who couldn’t hack it any longer. He broke first. There’s something about being in Harry’s space, though, the green and earthy feeling of it. It should feel like open space with all the plants, but Louis has never felt more claustrophobic than he does when he’s here. Harry’s chest moves against his back, a sharp intake of air.
Before he can open his mouth to defend himself, Louis keeps going, “If I had a choice in any of this, I would have been saved by that elderly security guard over you. I wouldn’t mind having to have the occasional cuddle with her.”

Louis knows three things, at the base of it all.
He likes when Harry hurts him. He doesn’t know why, not really, but he knows that he likes it. Likes giving up control, likes feeling small and taken care of, likes being praised for taking whatever Harry gives him for as long as he gives it. He and Harry are meant to be. No matter what time they finally fall together, what day, what age, what place, the moment that they do, that’ll be it. It’s going to be them against everyone else, hand in hand for the rest of their lives. That’s been a given since they met. The half of Louis’ soul that’s missing is Harry’s.

You’ve been hanging around and living with the Winchester since Bobby died. They promised him to look after you, mostly because you were hunting with them, but you’d rather doing research. You always said that knowledge was the best weapon you could master. Of course, Dean said you were as nerd as Sam was, but you wouldn’t complain because it was true. The Men of Letters’ bunker was a temple for you, it was pure gold. You spent hours and hours reading the books, the files, the research, everything. It was your perfect paradise.
One night after a rough hunt, Dean ended up having a really strong headache and nothing seemed to be helping him. You wanted to help him but you didn’t know how. You’ve read most of the books that were there and you couldn’t remember anything that could help him. Well, actually, there was one thing, and you’d promised Bobby to use it only with people you really cared about, and Dean clearly was important for you.
When you went to bed that night, you prayed. Prayed for Dean, prayed for protection, and prayed to help him to get rid of that headache. They didn’t know, but as Bobby used to say, you were special. It was a secret you needed to keep from them because you were aware of the reaction. Sometime later, Dean showed up at the library feeling a lot much better, like if he had never been on a tough hunt. You were really happy because he was feeling better, but you couldn’t say the same thing for you. You felt sick, probably the headache you were feeling was a lot stronger than Dean was feeling, you felt quite bad for him for feeling like that. You left your room and went directly to the kitchen, you needed to drink cold water.
-Hey — Dean greeted you — are you alright? — he asked concerned -Yeah, I just need some cold water — you explained -Are you sure? -Yeah, don’t worry — you said entering the kitchen. There was Sam -Hi Sammy — you greeted him -Hi Y/N — Sam greeted — how… Are you feeling ok? -Yeah — you said filling a glass with the water — I just need this — you said gesturing the water glass -Are you sure? You look pale — Sam said concerned -Yeah, Sammy. Don’t worry, it’s just a headache — you explained -If you need anything, let me know — you just nodded and went back to your room
The following hunt, an exhausting werewolf pack that moved around a few states was killed, Sam ended up with a migraine. Again, you looked for any spell or medicinal herbs to help him, but nothing was a hundred percent safe, so you did as you promised and once you were back in the bunker, you prayed. You prayed for him, to help him feel better, to get rid of that migraine, to give him a peaceful rest without pain. And a few hours later, he was as good as new, with just a slight headache barely noticeable, but you, it was a whole another story. You were light-sensitive, your stomach was churning and the pain was crushing your skull.
The next hunt was three days later after the werewolf pack. The guys had asked you to join them but you preferred staying to do some research, but actually, you just wanted to lay down and rest and get rid of the remnants of Sam’s migraine. The demon they were hunting had told Dean that you were a witch and you were performing witchcraft on them. Of course, Dean didn’t believe it and killed the demon. He wasn’t sure about it, because he started to remember his brother’s and his headache and hoe quickly faded. It was suspicious, but he couldn’t believe it. Probably the demon was just playing with his mind.
When they arrived at the bunker, they found you fast asleep on the war table surrounded by books. Dean wanted to wait until you woke up to talk with you. Not long after they arrived you woke up. You went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. When you entered the kitchen, Dean was already there with the computer looking for another case.
-Y/N, can we talk? — he said and you knew. He found out. -I guess — you said hesitating -How are you feeling? Really -I’m fine De — you said -Y/N, you stayed back on a demon hunt, and you were locked in your room with the lights out for two days. What’s going on? — He asked worried — Talk to me -I have strong headaches. I’ve been reading a lot lately and I’m getting older. I won’t be able to see perfectly my whole life — you just lie -Y/N, I’m serious — he clenched his jaw -Not now, De. I’m tired and I want to go to bed — you said heading to the hallways -Answer me this, and I let you go — you looked at him — promise -Ok. What do you want to know? -Are you a witch?  What? — you asked surprised -Seriously Dean? — Sam questioned entering the kitchen -Answer me -No, Dean. I’m not a witch. Why would you say that? -What’s going on with you?— Sam was pissed off -I’m sorry, I just needed to know -Why? — you asked curiously -It’s something the demon said. Forget about it. I’m sorry I asked. He probably was messing with my mind. I’m sorry. You can go to bed sweetheart — You didn’t say anything and left the kitchen
You felt bad for lying to them, but it was the best. Dean couldn’t find out, he would kill you. After that little discussion, you called Rowena for help. You weren’t feeling great. Rowena showed up, she helped you and stayed a little just in case you needed her again
-I wasn’t expecting you to upset her, dear— Rowena said -I didn’t mean it, but… -What if she is? Does it matter? I’m a witch and you haven’t killed me — Rowena mentioned -Yet — Dean said -What do you know Rowena? — Sam asked curious You were in the hallway listening, you needed to tell them the truth. -No, Dean. I’m not a witch, well, not like Rowena -What do you mean by saying not like her? — he was confused -She is considered a witch, but she is not like me. She does good things for people, she doesn’t do harm with what she does — Rowena explained -I’m not following — Sam said -Well, I do witchcraft for my own benefit. Y/N does it to help people, to help the people she cared about -Dean, you remember the headache you had a little while ago, and then vanished? I kind of cured it. And sam, the migraine you had the other day, I cured it too They were perplexed, they didn’t understand what you were talking about. They didn’t know what to believe anymore -Listen to her — Rowena begged -I prayed to the gods, the gods I praised, to help you, both of you to get rid of the headache, and I absorbed it -You absorbed it? -Dean asked -Yeah. Most of the headaches are caused by negative energies in your body. I’m very sensitive to them, so I can absorb them and help you to feel better — you explained — It’s difficult to understand, but I can show you some books where it’s explained -It’s not the same as I do. So when she feels bad, like today, she calls me for help, and I helped her to change those negative energies into positive energy and make her feel better -I work with energies, the phases of the moon. I promise you Dean, I would never use these gifts to do harm, ever -She is considered a witch by the bible because it says that is something given by the devil — Rowena explained -It’s true — Castiel appeared — She has asked me a few times for help. She only does good -I understand if you don’t believe me guys, but please, don’t kill me. I’ll go -Y/N, we would never kill you. You are everything to us, and we promised Bobby to keep you safe — Sam said -But that was before we knew this — Dean commented -Dude, come on — Sam scolded Dean -If it makes you feel better, Bobby knew and he made me promised to do only good to the people I care about. And that’s you guys. — you said and started to move to the hallway to go to your room to pack your stuff -Y/N — Dean called you — Do you promise me, that you would never ever for any reason use that to harm people? -I promise you, Dean, I would never use them to cause any type of harm to anyone — you said sincerely -I’m sorry I reacted that what— Dean said and hugged you — you know how much I hate witches
You laughed and hugged him back. You knew that you needed to do a lot of explaining to them, but it was only a matter of time until they truly believed you. But lucky for you, Cas and Rowena were there to help you.

Looking Out (Romione, PG-13)
Title: Looking Out
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Ron/Hermione, implied Harry/Ginny, Harry & Hermione friendship vibes
Summary: Harry Potter is always going to look out for his best friends - even if it means an awkward conversation or two.
Notes: I think some of this story was inspired by too many “he looked at me” TikToks. A big thanks to cheesyficwriter for her beta help on this. And I swear, I don't lowkey hate Harry but if you have read my last few pieces and think that, I don't blame you. Not owned by me, characters are not mine. Hopefully, you all get zero Harry/Hermione vibes from this. Hermione is just a little sensitive to be perceived as uptight and Harry does not want to think about Hermione in any way BUT uptight.

“Stop!”
Harry tapped his fingers on the wooden table and glanced at the closed door.
“Ron! Quit!” He heard Hermione’s muffled voice shout from the other room. Ron responded but it was too mumbled for Harry to understand. He furrowed his eyebrows.
“Go. Now,” Hermione stated and he heard Ron’s low chuckle before the door swung open and the two of them strolled into the kitchen of Number 12 Grimmauld Place.
“Apparently I have drawn the short straw and I will be fetching the pizza,” Ron sighed.
“Oh.” Harry furrowed his brow further and frowned. “Can you do that?”
“Yes!” said Hermione, rolling her eyes. “Harry, he’s had you completely snowed this entire year. He is quite capable of managing Muggle money now, he’s just been pretending to be incompetent.”
Ron shrugged. “The only downside of having you home for good is that I’m busted. I’ll be back in a few.”
“Margherita, please,” Hermione requested.
“Piles of meat, you’ve got it,” Ron replied   and gave Hermione a kiss that lingered long enough that Harry almost looked away. Before he could, Hermione put both hands on Ron’s chest and pushed him away.
“Get going! You know what it’s like if your sister gets here after practice and there’s no food!”
Harry heard the front door close as Hermione pulled out the chair across from him and picked up the copy of The Daily Prophet she had been reading that morning at breakfast. “Didn’t you already read that this morning?” he asked, glancing up from the training manual he was reviewing.
“Mmm,” she said. “I got down too late to really read it in-depth, just scanned it. I wanted to go back and read this feature on a new non-profit that’s a combined effort of a Muggleborn witch and a Squib.”
Hermione settled into her reading and Harry tried to resume his reviewing. After a few minutes of silence, Hermione broke the quiet. “Harry? Is there something on your mind?”
“What? No, I’m fine,” he said nervously.
“Then why are you looking at me every thirty seconds?”
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t realize.”
Another minute of quiet reading went by before Hermione spoke again. “Really, Harry. What’s going on?”
Harry let out a heavy sigh. “Okay, look, this is awkward. Ron’s my best friend. But so are you.”
“I’m familiar with our dynamic,” she replied, an amused look on her face.
“If you ever need my support or me to talk to him or something… I don’t want to but I would do it. If he’s bothering you or-”
“Bothering me?”
“Yeah.” Harry squirmed in his seat. “Like earlier.”
“What, you mean the pizza toppings?” asked Hermione, looking confused.
“No,” said Harry. “Just… you know.”
“I do not know.”
“Earlier when you were in the kitchen.”
“Harry,” said Hermione, the frustration clear from her face and tone. “Stop dancing around and tell me precisely what is going on.”
“You were telling Ron to stop bothering you and he wasn’t!” Harry blurted out.
“What?” asked Hermione, looking completely bewildered. “No, I wasn’t.”
“Yes you were!” Harry insisted. “I heard you tell him to stop and quit twice before you came out here.”
“I don’t - oh,” Hermione stopped abruptly and then her cheeks turned pink.
“And you told him again as he was leaving. Look, I’m not, it’s fine if you don’t want him... touching you all the time and if he’s not taking the hint, I would very awkwardly tell him to -”
“No,” Hermione interrupted. “Harry, that’s just, that’s flirting.”
“Huh?” asked Harry, looking in her direction. “But you don’t flirt!”
“Of course I do!” Hermione insisted.
“I have never seen you flirt,” insisted Harry.
“Well I do,” she stated indignantly.
“Since when?” demanded Harry.
“For a while but I suppose it was a bit more blatant after Ron’s birthday in sixth year,” she replied, blushing a bit.
“He was still dating Lavender!”
“Oh, and you weren’t flirting with Ginny while she was with Dean? It wasn’t as though we were snogging! It was just…little comments. Brushing hands. Lingering glances. That type of thing.”
“No way,” said Harry.
“We typically didn’t do it in front of you.”
Harry stopped for a moment. That response sparked a whole slew of other questions in his mind but he shook his head and kept to the topic at hand.
“So Ron’s not bothering you?”
“No, my boyfriend, that I have been separated from for ten months, is not bothering me,” she replied, rolling her eyes yet again. “On the rare occasion that I’m not in the mood and I want him to actually stop, I say, ‘Ron stop’ and he always does.” Harry recognized that voice as her standard no-nonsense tone.
“How is that different from what I heard?”
Now Hermione gave him a      look     that he did recognize - the one that she used when she thought one of her friends was being an idiot. “The tone should be a big giveaway.”
“So what’s the flirting sound like?”
“It sounds like what I said earlier.”
“It was too muffled for me to get the full context. Please Hermione?”
“I’m not doing it for you!”
“How am I to know the difference?”
“You don’t need to!”
“Hermione. I feel like such a git. I was really just trying to look out for you and instead, I accused my best mate of treating you terribly when I know how much he loves you. I just don’t want to make that mistake again.”
Hermione just shook her head.
“Come on! Do it for Ron. Ron can’t know I doubted him and I’ll just feel better when I know the difference!”
Hermione exhaled sharply. “Fine. I say ‘Stop, Ron.’”
The words were spoken in a light, giggly, and sultry tone that belonged to someone else but came out of Hermione’s mouth.
Harry stared at her.
Hermione stared back.
“What the hell was that?”
Hermione now gave an angry snort that sounded exactly like her.
“No, really,” said Harry, shaking his head. “I don’t know who that was but it wasn’t you.”
“Just because you haven’t witnessed it before doesn’t mean it’s not me.”
“Hermione, outside of last year, the amount of time we’ve spent apart is measured in weeks at most. There can’t be an entire chunk of your personality that I’m missing.”
     “Well apparently there is.”
“So you’re just an entirely different person with Ron when I’m not around?” Harry asked.
“No,” insisted Hermione. “I’m the same person but with some additional traits that you aren’t familiar with. I know there are things that Ginny sees that Ron and I don’t…” Harry grimaced. “Not - oh gross, you know what I mean.”
“Apart from that, Ginny sees the exact same things you two do,” Harry proclaimed.
“That’s impossible. I was there at the end of our sixth year. Ginny had fun Harry and we got the other version.”
“Well, damn Hermione, I’m so sorry that I wasn’t a delight to be around when I was being hunted by - ”
“Ugh, Harry, now you’re being impossible. The whole thing with Ginny at that time was brand new and fun. It’s the same thing with Ron and I. It still feels new to be open and vulnerable with him in a way I never could before and it’s fun. All I meant was that Ginny makes you happy in a way we don’t but it’s the same with Ron and me.”
“Except I don’t try to be some sort of weird sexy version of myself.”
In that moment, Harry realized just how much he had matured since he was 15 and that he was definitely getting better at recognizing other people’s emotions. Because after only five seconds, he realized that he made a terrible mistake with no clear path to redemption.
“Hermione, I don’t mean it’s weird like, weird-weird. It’s just for me, you aren’t or you, um…”
“Not only do I have pizza, I found this one wandering about so I brought her in. Looks rather ragged, figured we should feed her up,” said Ron, bursting into the room with two pizzas and Ginny trailing him, rolling her eyes at his lame joke.
It was a close second for the happiest Harry had ever been to see him.
Ron set the pizzas on the table and looked between Harry and Hermione, who were still glaring at one another. “What’s going on?”
Hermione turned her gaze from Harry to Ron and her eyes darkened. She crossed the room in three steps, grabbed the collar of his shirt, and pulled him down to meet her lips. Harry looked away from the two of them while also carefully avoiding Ginny’s eyes. He could feel her staring at him with questions written across her face.
Hermione let the hand gripping Ron’s collar trace down his chest to right below his belt before she grasped his hand and turned. “Upstairs now,” she ordered, pulling him behind her. Ron followed her wordlessly, looking gobsmacked but ecstatic.
“What the fuck was that?” asked Ginny, watching them go, amusement in her voice. Harry opened the pizza box, ignoring the question.
“Harry?” asked Ginny, now looking more curious.
“I’m really not sure,” Harry said. “Do you want something to drink?”
“Uh, okay,” said Ginny. She watched Harry grab two beers out of the icebox. As he slid one across the table to her, a thump and a moan came from overhead.
“Ugh, did they not do a silencing charm?” said Ginny, crinkling her nose.
“In fact, I wouldn’t put it past her to have used an amplifying charm,” said Harry. “I believe I may have offended her.”
“Oh Ron, don’t stop!”
“Correction,” said Harry. “I am now certain that I offended her.”
“I don’t even want to know,” Ginny shook her head, taking her wand and silencing the kitchen.
An hour later, Ron came back in the kitchen in his flannel pajama bottoms. He shifted the leftover pizza into a single box and closed it up before opening the icebox and grabbing two beers. He pushed the door open with his elbow and started to back out but stopped short when he saw Harry and Ginny still seated at the table.
“Harry,” Ron said with a lopsided grin. “I have no idea what the two of you were talking about before I got back but thanks for looking out for me, mate.”

“Why me?!” JJ shouts right as Sarah finishes her sentence.
You roll your eyes and lean your head back on the chair, taking deep breaths only because you’re holding yourself back to not smack the blondie’s head in.
“Because you two are the best at lying” Sarah explains.
“Yeah, right,” JJ says sarcastically, “Did you forget the part where I fucking despise her?” He asks while pointing at you.
“I don’t think anyone has ever forgotten that,” John B says while Kiara looks over to you, making sure that his words didn’t hit you too hard.
“Why can’t she do it with Pope?” He asks, sitting down on the seat farthest away from you.
“Because I’m going to be working with my dad the whole night” Pope explains, “Dude, come on. It’s just a few hours”
“Say that to the witch over there, I’m going to be the one who has to deal with her bullshit the whole night”
You breathe in while looking at the ceiling and exhale slowly while looking back at him and sending a glare in his direction, making him force his hateful gaze somewhere else.
“Can you finish talking about the plan, Sarah, please?” You ask in a low voice and Sarah nods while looking at her hands.
You hear JJ scoff as Sarah starts talking once more and you lift your eyebrows while your eyes close in annoyance.
“So, while you two distract whoever is on my way, I go up to my dad’s office and grab the Tannyhill map before anyone notices that I’m gone or that I’m upstairs” She finishes, and you nod.
“Sounds easy,” You say in a whisper.
JJ opens his mouth to bicker at you once more, but Pope elbows his arm before he does it. Nobody here wants you two to argue, because, after every big argument, you try to keep your distance from him for at least a week - since his words always find a way to get to you and you don’t want to show it.
Once John B adds some other stuff to the plan, everyone stays silent and listens. The moment he’s done, Kie gets up and walks over to where you’re seated, giving you somewhat of a sad smile.
“Do you know what to wear yet?” She asks you while taking a seat on the floor next to you.
“Not really. My wardrobe is not that Midsummers ready” You tell her, making her crack a smile.
“I can borrow you a dress” She offers, “And heels. And help you with the make-up and hair” She says, making you smile.
“I would love that” You tell her.
While you and Kie share smiles and some words about how boring the event is going to be, JJ’s eyes focused on you in a glare. How could you be so fake?
His hatred from you was always existent. When you first appeared in his life, to be more exact, in 8th grade; you quickly became friends with everyone but him, for a reason you two could never understand. After that first day of being a part of the group, he just refused to be at least somewhat pleasant to you. And you, being you, just did the same exact thing.
Your eyes leave Kie to look over at the guys that are loudly talking, and they meet with JJ’s. Your expression changes from the sweet and welcoming one to the mean and rude, right as you read his gaze.
Tomorrow night is going to be fun.
(…)
You step out of Kie’s parents’ car and your hands run over the dress, pulling it back in place while you look over at Kiara, who gave you a smile before grabbing your hand.
You follow her parents when walking in the large house and look around to see all the different flower crowns in the women's head and on some men, as well as the beautiful and expensive attires.
You’re sure out of your comfort zone, but you sure never looked better doing it.
You four step out to the backyard and the golden light of the sun hits your skin, making some people look over at you curious with who just got in.
After some time of walking through the backyard, Kie starts pulling you over to the side and you follow her with the best of your ability since heels make everything harder.
Your eyes go over to Pope and Kie lets go of your hand once you get closer to the griller. Pope, once noticing, happily greets you two and you all start a conversation as he helps his dad with the food.
“Where’s JJ?” Kie asks while looking around.
“Not here yet, I guess he got held back with John B, so they’re getting ready just now” He explains while sipping on his ice-cold water.
You almost sigh in relief, the idea of fake dating JJ has been hunting your mind down since JJ’s way with words, yesterday. The fact that if you don’t do as told can cost the whole plan and probably even the gold, worsens your state of mind every time you think about it.
What if he starts yelling at you out of nowhere? What if he doesn’t follow the plan and refuses to do everything? Or if he doesn’t show up?
You wake up from your thoughts as everyone’s eyes go over to the glass doors of the house, where Sarah, Topper, and her family are walking out of. Seeing Topper and Rafe standing next to each other made you tense up; they probably are going to be tonight’s bigger pains in the ass.
(…)
Hours passed, JJ has been doing his part of the plan (being a server) for now, he hasn’t talked to you yet, but that’s only because you haven’t crossed paths yet. Even though you have seen his blonde head of hair walking around between the rich families.
You lean back on the wall while looking around, Kie’s parents pulled her away from you a few minutes ago and you completely lost her, meaning that you are completely alone.
You adjust the flower crown on your head and play with the fabric of the dress while looking around, trying to find some way of entertainment in this house.
“What are you doing here?” A voice asks and you look at where the sound led you, to your right, Topper.
“You mean midsummers or this exact porch?” You ask.
Well, at least you’re distracting one of the people that could ruin the plan.
“Both,” He says while taking a good look at what you’re wearing.
“Kiara and her family brought me with them” You explain.
Your eyes travel to behind him and you see Sarah talking to John B, making you almost widen your eyes in surprise.
“And now you’re alone because…?”
“Because she had to go to the bathroom” You lie while making sure that Topper doesn’t get any ideas in turning around.
“Oh, is that right?” He says while leaning closer to you in a teasing way, “Is that what happened or are you just tired of her and your little Pogue friends?”
You look at him confused and just shake your head slightly, “That’s the truth”
“Really? Because I just saw Kiara giving a drink to her friend over there” He says pointing at the middle of the backyard, “before I walked up here. And that… Doesn’t look like a bathroom”
You bite the inside of your cheek as you don’t know what to say or even do. So, you look over again behind him and see Sarah and John B walking away in different directions.
“Yeah, I- um” You say while focused on Sarah’s movements, “I need to back go inside for a little bit. It’s getting kinda cold for me”
Topper looks over behind his shoulder and his eyes meet Sarah, who is walking in the house and probably moving to where you planned on meeting.
“Why? Do you want to go talk to Sarah?” He asks and you nod, “Since when do you like her enough to talk?”
“Never hated her, Topper” You say with a tone as if you’re reminding him of something.
You try to turn and walk back inside the house, but Topper grabs your wrist, making you turn back to him.
“What are you hiding?” He asks with an interesting look, “Must be something big for you to want to talk to Sarah. I’m sure your friend Kiara wouldn’t like that”
He finishes and you try to yank your arm out of his grip but to no avail.
“Hey!” You hear JJ’s voice behind you shout, “Let go of my girl right fucking now!”
Those words shocked you to the core and so did Topper, but you were way better at hiding shock than him.
“Your girl?” Topper asks while letting go of your arm.
You walk to JJ and hide behind him as the two guys start to argue. The shock has left your body as you, now, understand the reality that you are living in. This is all a part of the plan.
Topper scoffs at whatever JJ just said and takes a step forward. Oh no.
“Like you would ever date her,” Topper says, trying to get under JJ’s skin.
JJ tries to take a step forward as well, but you hold his arm, not letting him do exactly what Topper exactly wants him to.
“Oh, she holds you back and everything” Topper continues, making you open the door next to you and try to push JJ in the house.
“JJ please ignore him” You whisper to him, which surprisingly made him step inside the house.
Topper, once noticing that his fun was cut short because of you, walks away once the windowed door is closed behind you.
“What in the fuck were you thinking?” JJ starts as you two start looking for Sarah, “Talking to Topper. Really?”
“Oh, don’t start with me, mister” You tell him with an annoyed look, “I wasn’t the one that almost started a fight right there”
“You are the reason that this fight almost started in the first place” He says while pointing at your chest with his ringed finger. “If you weren’t talking to him-”
“Excuse you, but he was the one that started a conversation with me” You defend yourself, smacking his hand away from your chest.
“But you continued the conversation” He throws it back at you and you sigh while looking around.
“Can we have this argument later? Sarah’s waiting for us” You ask him while grabbing his arm and pulling him with you, walking to Sarah.
“Took you guys long enough,” She says, you could tell she’s anxious just by the tone of her voice.
“Sorry, JJ thought it was a good idea to almost start a fight,” You say, for the sole reason to annoy the guy that has his arm crossed with yours.
In a quick movement, his arm uncrossed yours and he pinched your side, making you hiss in pain.
“Ow! You, asshole” You say before smacking his arm.
“Guys! Please concentrate” Sarah says, almost starting to panic with the whole situation. “Can we please just get this done with?”
“Yes, we can. Let’s go” You tell her while you massage the sore skin over your dress.
You three walk to the (somewhat of) spiral staircase of her house and she starts running up the stairs right away.
“You guys stay there if you can’t stop someone from going upstairs…” She starts and you look at her while she thinks, “Run and try to scream into the office window, I don’t know” She says quickly before running off.
Once you check if Sarah ran up all the stairs and walked further into the hallway, you lean back on the wall and JJ leans on the railing, leaving not even a foot in between you two.
“What do we do if someone appears and tries to upstairs?” You ask JJ while looking at his beaten-up face.
“We’ll figure it out when it happens” He says dryly while looking at the hallway in front of him, not meeting your gaze.
You sigh as he goes back to his rude ways with you.
“And what if she doesn’t find the map?” You ask, finding holes in this whole plan.
“She will”
“And she doesn’t, JJ? We didn’t think this thr-” You stop once you hear a man coughing on the end of the hallway, making JJ peak out of your hiding place. By his expression, you both are clear. “Like I was saying, we didn’t think this plan through. There are too many ways that this can fail”
“Jesus Christ, Y/N, we won’t fail,” He says, this time looking back at you. He’s not leaning back on the railings anymore since he has looked around the hallway, making you two be closer to each other.
“You don’t know that” You tell him.
“Yeah, I don’t. But I know that this will work” He says while almost glaring at you, making you look away.
You two stay silent for a few minutes, looking at the hallway, trying to find any sort of entertainment to fight the boredom in you.
“What’s taking her so long?” You ask in a frustrated tone.
While you spoke, JJ sees someone turn on the hallway and he notices that is Rafe. You open your mouth to talk about the plan once more, and JJ quickly shuts you up with a kiss.
As JJ’s lips collide with yours, you froze in surprise for at least 2 seconds, but that was until you hear the footsteps in the hallway. Your hands go over to his shoulders and you start moving your lips against his. JJ’s hands grab your waist and pull you against the wall, trying to get back in control of the kiss.
The kiss quickly turned into a competition and you smiled while your fingers went up to his head, pulling his hair slightly, getting a grunt from him. JJ, as revenge, brings his hands up closer to your chest, but before he can do anything, a voice stops you.
“Jesus Christ” Rafe’s voice sounds, “Couldn’t you two get a room to do this in?”
“What do you want, Rafe?” You ask him, as you two pull away from each other.
“I was looking for my dear sister, have you seen her by any chance?”
Your hands fall from JJ’s hair to the crook of his neck as you put your actress mode on.
“We saw her going outside not even a minute ago,” You say with your annoyed tone. “You might still catch her by the porch if you’re quick enough”
Rafe walks away without thanking you and you sigh in relief. JJ’s hands fall from your waist to his sides and you do the same.
“Well, that worked” You whisper.
“Yeah”
You two are still really close, you feel like you can’t even breathe deeply without touching him by accident. Your lips feel slightly swollen from the kiss, and your body feels weird, in a way you’ve never felt,
Silence is set between the two of you as you try to listen, overall the talking between guests and even some workers, if someone is walking by.
Out of boredom, after some minutes, you look up at JJ, who is too concentrated on the end of the hallway to notice you looking at him. You admire his beaten up (from a previous fight with some guys) but still handsome face with the best of your ability on such a dark side of the hallway.
“Hey. Guys!” You har Sarah says next to you and you two turn to look at her.
“Do you have it?” You ask her.
She smirks while taking her hand from behind her. The map comes into view and you almost scream in excitement, but you hold yourself back, smiling widely at Sarah who smiled back at you.
JJ checks the hallways once more as Sarah gave you the map and you hid it inside your dress, against your leg.
“Let’s go,” You say while starting to walk away from the staircase, making JJ and Sarah follow you.
(…)
After hours of drinking as a celebration once you got to John B’s house with (stolen) drinks from the midsummers. You changed out of your dress and washed off your makeup as soon as you could. You changed into a random muscle shirt that you found in John B’s room, not really caring who's it is since everyone is too drunk to care.
You walk back out of the bathroom and go back to the porch, where everyone is or laughing their asses off or already falling asleep.
You sit back down next to Pope and grab a blanket from the other side of the couch to cover your legs. You lean your head on your fist while listening to Sarah’s slow and drunken words, until sleep is starting to get the better of you, making your eyelids heavier and heavier by the minute.
You lay your head on your arms, laying on your side trying not to take too much space on the couch. As your eyes closed, the sound of your drunken friends’ words were nothing but murmurs to you. Your muscles are completely relaxed thanks to the drinks you took. You are for sure going to fall asleep in a few seconds, but there’s still something keeping you awake.
The kiss.
Never in your life have you been kissed like that. In the beginning, you two were just competing, nothing more or less. But by the time you two evolved that one simple kiss (simply made to shut you up and make everyone who saw it uncomfortable), your mind wasn’t focused on the plan anymore, or even that you’re supposed to hate JJ.
You feel warm and weird when you think about it, which is strange since you two supposedly hate each other.
As the questions filled your mind, you were able to relax completely and keep your mind at ease since you can always think about it tomorrow morning.
(…)
You wake up and once your eyes open, you’re met with the sun right away. That’s the bad part of sleeping on the porch. You scrub your eyes and look at everyone else on the chairs and the other couch, some even on the floor. But someone is missing.
JJ.
You get out of the couch, carefully and quietly to not wake Pope up, and you go inside the house. You used the bathroom quickly, went to JB’s guest’s room to grab and put on a pair of jean shorts that Kiara left last week, and grabbed an apple from the kitchen before stepping out of the porch.
As you walked in the direction of the water, you notice the hammock barely moving, which is weird since today is kind of a windy morning.
Once you get closer to the hammock, you notice the blonde hair, making you almost sigh relief since now you don’t have to attack anyone for trespassing John B’s property.
“Good morning,” You say, making JJ look away from the water and look over at you.
“Good morning” He answers in a low tone of voice.
“I’m going for a walk, want to come with?” You ask him.
He nods slowly before sitting up from the hammock and getting up, now standing next to you.
In silence, you two walked to the beach, which – since is still 6am – it’s empty from any locals or tourists. You don’t really know why you even asked for JJ’s company in the first place, that has never happened before, never. It might be the fresh memory from yesterday’s kiss, which seems to be tattooed permanently in your mind.
You two climb to your usual spot, on top of a bunch of rocks, and sit down while looking at the sunrise.
“I’ve been thinking about something,” JJ says, breaking the silence.
You look away from the water to look at him, curious about what he’s about to say.
“About yesterday”
“Yeah, me too” You admit.
Silence is set between you two once more, but thankfully, it isn’t awkward. It feels more like a comforting one for the two of you.
“It made me realize that I don’t actually hate you” JJ says, making you meet his eyes again as he smiled.
“Yeah,” You say while trying to bite your smile while your lips moved upwards, “Even though I never hated you in the first place”
“Guess that’s all on me, right?” He jokes, making you smile brightly and shake your head slightly.
“Well, you were the one that was rude when we first met” You say while lifting your eyebrows with a teasing look.
“Yeah, sorry about that. It was just some stupid kid stuff”
“Does that stupid kid stuff have another name?” You tease, making him chuckle.
“I guess it does,” He says while nodding and looking back at the ocean, “I had a huge crush on you, but you always seem more interested in John B”
Had. Past tense.
“Well, I guess you’re dumber than I thought you were” You admit, making him look back at you in a shocked but rather confused look.
“What do you mean?”
“I had a huge crush on you too” You admit making his eyes widen, “But I guess you had to ruin that for me,” You say with a joking tone, making him hit you slightly with his elbow.
“So, you’re telling me that my 8th-grade ass could’ve been dating you if I wasn’t rude towards you?” He asks and you smile again.
“Yap” You answer, making him smile back.
“Well, that’s a bummer” He says while a small rock into the crashing waves.
“When did you stop liking me?” You ask, curious about what changed.
JJ looks away from you right as you asked that and stays silent, confusing you but you decide not to say or do anything, not wanting to ruin to perfect conversation.
“Never did,” He says in almost a whisper.
“What?” You ask, not sure of what he just said.
“I never stopped liking you, and yesterday made that clear for me” He admits.
JJ’s heart is beating out of his chest rapidly, he feels like he just screwed everything up because you aren’t even moving a muscle beside him. His eyes stay glued on the ocean, not wanting to make matters worse.
“But you dated that gir-” You start, mentioning his girlfriend from last year, but he interrupts you.
“Why do you think we broke up?” He asks, “She broke up with me once she first knew about it”
JJ throws another small rock into the sea and you take a deep breath as his words set into your mind. You couldn’t believe anything he just said, but in some way, you want to, with all your heart.
“What about you?” He says with what sounded like a saddened tone of voice, “When did stop liking m-”
Before JJ could finish that sentence, you cupped his face with your hands and made him look you. Once his blue eyes look into yours, you lean in quickly and your lips meet.
JJ quickly moves to hold your hips and bringing you closer to him as you two slowly move your lips into the kiss.
This kiss had nothing to do with last night’s. Yesterday’s kiss was based on competitivity and in some way, anger between you two; while this one was just slow and filled with emotion. As if you two were compensating on all the years you two could’ve used to build a healthy relationship and not one as enemies with mutual friends.
Once you two pull away, you stay silent while looking into each other’s eyes, taking it all in.
“Guess that makes two of us of never forgetting a crush” JJ jokes and you smile at him.
“So, what does this mean?” You ask while pointing in between you two.
“It means whatever you want it to mean”
“Good”
You smile at him once more and peck his lips quickly before getting up and jumping down off the rock.
“We should get going. Everyone must be awake by now” You tell him, and he nods, following you.
You two walk now side by side, hand in hand, savoring the sweet moment.
“What are we going to tell the others?” You ask him, curious.
“We won’t,” He says making you confused, “We’ll make them guess,” He says, making you smile and roll your eyes.
As you two walked back to John B’s house, you were right, everyone was awake. And as soon as their eyes laid on you two, you were asked too many questions to even acknowledge a simple one.
Once everyone understood everything that is going in between the two of you, everyone cheered over their headaches because the two of you are finally going to stop being the reason you can’t go out as a group; there will be no screaming, arguing, smacking, insults and, most importantly, no hatred.
This six-peopled group can be finally called a perfect family, all because you two decided to start dating. You all love each other unconditionally, no matter what, even if that meant brother-sister relationship or boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. And that will be protected and proudly own by this friend group only because you promise to never give up or look down on each other.
And that’s what makes this friendship and relationship forever be magical on its own.

Tumblr media
Hey, Cass told me. There’s nothing to be ashamed about, it’s OK.
When you read that text, your face went up in flames with embarrassment, and now, you were on a mission to find one very, soon to be dead, Angel who spilled the beans. You couldn’t believe Cass told Dean! You confided in him in full confidentiality! Hell, Cass promised to keep his mouth shut, that he’d never tell Dean, that you could trust him to keep your secret, but now you knew that you were wrong.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!
“Castiel, when I get my hands on you, I’m going to throttle your stupid angelic neck!” you muttered to yourself, brows furrowed and lips morphed into a deep frown.
You stomped through the bunker looking for the blabbermouth. Still grumbling, you passed Jack’s room, the seemingly teenaged boy looking at you, as you ducked in, with a confused expression. When you didn’t respond to him after he called your name several times, he decided to follow you, wondering why you were acting so strange.
He picked up on a few key words you were saying: stupid, angel, kill, asshole, assbutt, and a few other choice words that he knew were inappropriate but didn’t quite understand what they really implied.
Next, you stormed into the kitchen finding Sam eating a salad. In your already foul mood, you scoffed at his choice of nutrition, rolling your eyes at the gentle giant of a man.
“Y/N? Are you okay?” He asked, looking at you and then to Jack, who shrugged in obliviousness.
“I’m fine,” you hissed, not meaning to snap at him. “Have you seen Cass?”
“Uh, no. He should be in here somewhere. He didn’t mention anything about leaving,” Sam provided.
“Okay, thanks,” you replied, tone still not very pleasant.
You marched onwards, Jack still trailing behind you. He wasn’t sure if you knew that he was following, or if you simply didn’t care, but Jack continued on regardless.
The two of you made it to the war room, the space void aside for a few empty beer bottles that was most likely left by Dean. Growling in disapproval, you walked into the library next, just in time to see Sam walk in from the other end.
“Cass, there you are. Y/N’s looking for you and she doesn’t seem very happy,” Sam warned just as you stepped in.
“Damn right I’m unhappy,” you confirmed, storming up to Cass. “I can’t believe you told Dean!”
“I don’t understand. What did I tell him that I wasn’t supposed to?” Cass questioned, the look on his face completely perplexed.
“Oh, you know what you told him!”
Cass squinted his eyes and tilted his head, a tell that told you he was trying recollect what he possibly could have said. Annoyed with him, you exclaimed in frustration. “I can’t believe you told Dean that I liked him!” you finally revealed, Jack and Sam’s eyes widening and brows raising.
“What?”
Your body froze when you heard the familiar deep voice echo through the library. You didn’t dare to look back, already knowing your face must be glowing with humiliation.
With wide eyes and mouth slightly ajar, Cass’ eyes went from you to the Dean, who had taken a few more steps closer and was now standing directly behind you, next to Jack. “Uh… Y/N,” Cass started, “I never disclosed any of that information to Dean,” the angel confessed.
“I don’t get it,” Jack interrupted. “I thought we all liked each other? You know, we’re a family?”
Sam cleared his throat at that, giving Jack an acknowledging smile. “Uh, yeah. We do like each other, but they’re talking about a different kind of like.”
“Like what? Like love?” the innocent boy blurted, the word love making you cringe.
“Whoa, whoa, hang on a second,” Dean took control of the room. “Y/N, you love me?” He asked, neck a little stretched out, eyes wide, and mouth hanging open with disbelief.
Shyly, you turned to face him, heart leaping when you instantly made eye contact. “Didn’t you already know that? You texted me that Cass told you.”
“What?” Cass quipped. “I did not tell him that,” he defended himself.
“No,” Dean confirmed. “When I texted you that, I was talking about the hunt.”
Your face went completely white. Just the other day, you and Cass had come home after what was supposed to be an easy hunt. You were adamant that the monster you were hunting was a vengeful spirit possessing innocent people, but it turned out to be a witch casting curses. It was that mistake that landed you in becoming a victim of said curse. A truth curse.
The witch worked at the diner where all the incidents happened. You figured that the ghost was attached to something or someone in the restaurant, but it was the witch mixing people’s drinks with her truth potion. That was how your secret was let out to Cass, but he had assured you that he wouldn’t tell anyone, that your secret was safe with him. And it was true, you told Cass how stupid you felt for not realizing that it wasn’t a spirit but a witch terrorizing the small town. You made a mistake and you weren’t the type that to brush off little mistakes like that. You took it to heart, like you were a bad hunter.
“Oh…” was all you could say at that point, feeling even more embarrassed, and stupid, that you already were.
“Uh, hey Cass, Jack, how about we go into the kitchen; give Dean and Y/N some privacy to talk.
The three of them left the room, heading into the kitchen. You were grateful at that but at the same time, you wished that he would have invited you along, but you knew that it was too late and you and Dean needed to have this talk.
“Y/N…” you flinched at the sound of your name.
Wanting to beat the bullet, you just let everything out on the table. “Look, I’m sorry okay? No one was supposed to know! I know you don’t feel the same way but I hope we can just forget all about this and pretend that it never happened. I was drugged out and didn’t really mean it,” you continued on until Dean stopped you.
“Y/N, stop. First of all, you weren’t drugged out, you were bewitched with a truth potion. Everything you said was the truth, not something you didn’t really mean.”
Your shoulders dropped knowing he was right. The only thing left now was to take the rejection. There would be no more fantasizing about all the what ifs because all those dreams were about to be crushed by the hard truth… Dean Winchester did not love you back. Great.
“Okay, I get it,” you sighed. “Look, I’m sorry. I know you don’t feel the same way, so I’ll do my best to get over you,” you told him.
“What? No!” Dean exclaimed. “Y/N, you don’t have to do that. Uh…” Dean’s demeanor suddenly changed and if you were reading his body language correctly, he seemed tense, timid… cute. No! Y/N stop it! Don’t think that way! “Uh, I actually kind of…”
In the kitchen, Sam leaned against the prep table, Cass sat at the table, while Jack stood in the middle of the room. “So...” Jack started, “when you said that they were talking about a different kind of like, you mean love?”
Sam met Jack’s gaze, “basically,” he answered.
“Okay… I don’t see what the problem is. Don’t we all love each other? I mean, it’s pretty much that same thing, right?” Jack questioned.
This time Sam let out a soft chuckle. “No, Jack. Y/N is in love with Dean… romantically.”
“Oh! Okay, I get it now. So Dean is in love with Y/N and now Y/N is in love with Dean! They both are in love with each other! That’s a really good thing, right?” Jack smiled, proud of himself for final grasping the situation.
“Yes, that is correct,” Cass answered instead. “But after we killed the witch and the potion wore off, Y/N told me not to tell Dean. But she ended up telling him herself instead, albeit it was unintentional.”
“I think this will be good for them. They deserve to be happy,” Sam grinned, actually glad that the truth was all out there.
Dean struggled to admit his own feelings. He wasn’t the type to talk about his emotions but if he wanted to have a future, like a real future, with you, then he had to tell you. He had to confess to you too.
“You actually kind of what?” you asked.
“Uh, I actually kind of… you know. I like you too,” he finally said it.
It was your turn to be dumbfounded. You weren’t sure if you heard him correctly, but at the same time you didn’t want to ask him to repeat himself, scared to find out that it was merely your delusional head playing tricks on you. It couldn’t be possible that Dean felt the same way, right?
“Y/N, did you hear me?” Dean inquired.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard you correctly. I thought you said you felt the same way,” you giggled bashfully.
“Because I did.”
You froze at the confession. There was no denying it now. Dean had just confirmed that he felt the same way you did. The thought of how to proceed from there was short-circuiting your brain, not once ever thinking this was possible. Dean had said, on more than one account, that in this life, falling in love was impossible, that it would only end bad. You agreed with him, but that didn’t stop you from feeling the way that you felt, and now he was admitting that he had feelings. Those exact forbidden feelings he said hunters couldn’t have.
Having never planned for this unforeseen moment, you shifted your eyes from his to whatever you could find in the room. You were looking at an open book when you heard footsteps, and when you looked back to Dean, he was right there in front of you, his lips an inch away from yours. An audible gasp escaped you and Dean simply smiled.
“I thought you said hunters can’t have love,” you gulped, eyes trained on his invitingly pink lips.
“I say a lot of things Sweetheart, but if you’re willing, I’m willing to give this a try too. You know… give us a try.”
Averting your eyes to his, you searched for something that told you he was lying, that he didn’t mean it, but when you saw nothing but sincerity, you couldn’t help yourself. You lunged into him, arms wrapping around his neck and lips smashed against his in a needy fashion. Dean growled, his arms wrapping tightly around your waist as he hoisted you off the ground a little. When you pulled away, you were both breathless with matching dopey smiles stretched on each of your lips.
“Wow, Winchester,” you grinned.
“Better than you imagined?” he teased.
“So much better.”
“Everything okay in here?” Sam asked as he stepped back into the library, Cass and Jack in toe.
“Everything is great!” you beamed, taking your place beside your new boyfriend, hands intertwined.
“So are you two together now?” Cass questions, looking at your interlocked hands.
“Yup! All secrets are out. There’s nothing to hide anymore,” you assured.
“I see. Then can I ask you a question, since there are no more secrets?” Cass directed his question at you.
“Uh… go for it,” was you reply, not knowing you would soon regret it.
“When you were under the truth spell, you said you wanted Dean to punish you. To tie you up and punish you all night long. Spanking and choking you. I don’t understand why’d you want him to inflict pain on you.”
Your face went red as all eyes were on you. Jack had no idea what the hell was going on, but Sam gave you that horrified look, knowing he just heard something he wasn’t supposed to, or needed to know. Dean on the other hand was shocked at first, but quickly smirked at the notion.
“Cass!” you shouted it mortification. “I’m gonna kill you!” Just as you were about to attack him, a flutter of wings echoed through the room and he was gone. “Cass!”

The One with the Slumber Party
Pairing: Dean Winchester x reader
AN: this is my entry for  @smol-and-grumpy   #superfriendstitlechallenge
When you realized you were reading the same page for the 4th time you decided it was time to turn in. Closing the book you looked over at the boys "I'm sorry guys, but I'm gonna have to turn in, my brain can't take any more Latin" you told them as you rubbed your temples.  You weren't sure how long the three of you had been researching but you were sore and needed to stretch as you stood up from the chair.  You could feel Dean's eyes on you as you twisted from side to side trying to remove the strain on your muscles for sitting so long.  Glancing at him, you see him licking his bottom lip before pulling it between his teeth.  A sight you know you will be dreaming about shortly after your head hits the pillow, but you do your best to pretend to ignore it and act as naturally as possible. You mumble a quiet goodnight before heading out of the library, you miss the questioning look on Dean’s face as you walk towards the hall to your room.
Nearing your room you hear hurried footsteps and turn to find Dean rushing towards you.  “Baby, what’s going on?  Where are you going?” he asks, looking concerned.
Did Dean just call you baby? Ok, that’s my mind playing tricks on me.  “I’m going to my room, to sleep, that’s why I said goodnight” you respond a bit confused by the question.
“But why aren’t you coming to our room?  Did I do something?  Are you mad at me?” he asks stepping closer to you and caressing your cheek.
Ok, what is going on?  I must be dreaming  “Uhm, our room? Wh-What are you talking about?”  you gulp.
“Sweetheart, what’s going on? You moved into my room months ago.  Why are you going back to your old room?  Are you feeling ok?”
“I... I don’t know what you are talking about.... Why would I m-move into your room?”
“Baby, you are worrying me.  Are you feeling ok?  Did that witch do something to you?” he searches your face.
“What witch?  We just got back from a werewolf hunt.  I’m really tired Dean, I think I just need some sleep”
“Sweetheart, the last werewolf hunt was 6 months ago.  We just got back from a witch hunt, but we ganked her, so if she threw a spell on you before that, it should wear off soon….I hope”  He kisses your forehead before grabbing your hand.  “So if you don’t remember the last 6 months, then we need to jog your memory, right?” he says with a sweet smile.
“Okay, and what does that entail?” you ask following behind him to his your shared room.
“Well, might I suggest a slumber party? I know you are tired, but I wouldn’t mind reliving the last 6 months, especially when it comes to us” he bends down to leave a chaste kiss to your lips and you freeze.
“Wow, you really don’t remember, do you?  So our first kiss, our first time, all over again?  That turns me on a little bit sweetheart” he winks at you as he pulls you into the room.
Even looking around, seeing your  belongings mixed with Dean’s so seamlessly, you still don’t recognize the room as yours.  “So what now, Dean?  What type of slumber party do you have in mind?” you ask with a giggle anticipating a lewd comment that only Dean could make at this point.
“Well, sweetheart” he states walking up to you and placing his hands on your hips and pulling you closer.  “I was thinking about going through your journal, I’m hoping you’ve written something about me, and looking at pictures we’ve taken.  But I’d love to show you all over again, how much you mean to me.  How much I care about you” as he leans down and kisses you with more urgency.
Is this really happening?  He’s a better kisser than I imagined over the past few years.
“So, I’m going to grab my phone, ask Sam to take a look into what could have caused this, then I’m right back here and we can enjoy our night” he states with a wiggle of his eyebrows.   You can’t help be laugh at him “ok, I’m gonna change into something more comfy”
Dean winked and left the room, just as he mentioned you found your journal on what you assumed was your night stand.  Flipping through back to the werewolf hunt you began reading to see if there was anything about Dean or this new relationship the two of you had begun.
You’re not sure how long you were reading through your entries, completely absorbed in the info that you were hoping would jog your memory, only to leave you more confused.  Finally, Dean came back in with a tray of snacks.
“What’s all that?” you asked with a smirk.   “What’s a slumber party without snacks?  I got popcorn, your favorite gummy bears, some beef jerky and beer!” he states proudly as he sets the tray on the bed and snuggles up next to you.
“Anything in there helping you remember...us?” he looks at you hopeful.  You shake your head in defeat and keep going through the pages.  “That’s ok, how about we look here” handing you his phone. ”there’s bound to be something in here that will help you remember.  Here this was last month, date night, you looked so sexy in that dress.”  Looking at the picture you hoped it would help but nothing seems familiar.
After a few hours of looking at pictures and him telling you about funny instances that have happened since you officially became a couple, you felt more happy than you had in years.   This was real, Dean was yours, but you couldn’t remember for whatever reason.  A knock on the door interrupted your laughter when Sam’s head popped in.
“So, from what Rowena said, the side effects from the spell the witch casted, shouldn’t last more than 24 hours after we killed her.  If it does, she’ll come and see what she can do to get your memories back.  So, hopefully you’ll be back to normal by tomorrow afternoon”
You gave Sam a grateful smile “thanks Sam, I’m sure it will wear off eventually”, he nods before ducking back out in the hall.   “How about you get some sleep and come morning, if you don’t remember, we’ll try something a bit more physical to help you remember?” Dean tells you with a mischievous grin.
“Alright Winchester, I’m exhausted, is it ok if I sleep here?  It still feels like I’m invading your space.” you tell him while biting your lip.
“I won’t be able to sleep without you in my arms, sweetheart.   C’mere”  Dean pulls you close so that your head is resting on his chest and his arms are wrapped around you.
You’re so comfortable, that you fall asleep almost instantly.  Tomorrow would be even better, remembering everything between you and Dean would make everything better.
Dean’s POV
“Damn it Sammy!  Why would she go after that djinn alone?! I can’t lose her, she doesn’t know what she really means to me!” I’m so frustrated and just hoping to find her in time to save her.

Wild Hunt
I think I promised @goldcaught a Klaroline Fae fic years ago. This one has been in the works for a while, let's not talk dates, but 2020 definitely slowed production down. I promise, the second half will not sit languishing in my WIP for too long! The biggest, most heartfelt thank you to Kiry, who has been both a cheerleader and a kick in the pants as needed to get this thing on track to being finished. Kiry doesn't sleep, but I can't complain too much, since they have kindly listened to me complain until the wee hours of the morning. (And also my girl @klarolinedrabbles who saw a super early version of this and was kind enough to be encouraging.)
Edit; And I failed to tag @kirythestitchwitch directly, but you know, today was a trip.
A couple of notes to avoid confusion:
Fae: A word used in this fic to generally reference a type of European mythological beings. Sean O'Connell: Cami O'Connell's Twin.
Synopsis: Killing Tyler Lockwood starts a chain of events that put Caroline exactly where she's always dreaded and longed to be: in the arms of Klaus Mikaelson.

Hand pressed tightly against her side, Caroline took several careful breaths, her lungs burning and her pulse a steady thump in her ears. Her senses were hyper alert, magic straining to catch the faintest hint of a disturbance. All around her, humans slept soft and cozy in their beds, and the night had gone quite. As the silence continued to hold, she allowed herself to relax, letting the cold of the concrete at her spine cool her flushed and fever warm skin. For the moment, she was safe.
Reaching up, she rubbed her breastbone, lips curling into a small, pleased smile at the burn. Her father was angry. If she survived the night, that alone would make the pain of her injury worth it. Thankfully, the knife wound felt like it had finally stopped seeping, and her glamour would hide the blood. It was the iron poison that was going to cause her complications. The black spider web crawling up the line of her ribcage hadn’t made it close to her heart, she was her mother’s daughter too, but it weakened her all the same.
It left her in a magical disadvantage.
Grimacing as her phone buzzed silently in her pocket, she pressed a little further into the concrete behind her and looked around. There was nothing to suggest her cousins had been able to track her, though that was just a matter of time. Thankfully, even suffering from iron, she had enough control of her magic to hide the glow from her phone, though she didn’t quite dare to risk more.
Not yet.
Pulling it free from her pocket, she winced at the number of missed calls and quickly scanned the texts that had accumulated.
Bonnie (12:45 AM): Hello???
Bonnie (12:46 AM): You’re not dead.
Bonnie (12:46): Are you ignoring me?
Bonnie (1:10 AM): I swear, I’ll put Enzo on a plane. With the time differences, he’ll be there before dawn.
Bonnie (1:10 AM): Then you’ll have to listen to him complain about airplane food while he tries to kill people.
Bonnie (1:11 AM): I might do it anyway. I could use the alone time.
Wincing, because Bonnie Bennett did not bluff, she hurriedly tapped out a response.
Caroline (1:11 AM): I’m alive.
Bonnie (1:11 AM): What happened?
Caroline (1:11 AM): It was a trap.
Bonnie (1:11 AM): How bad?
Caroline: (1:12 AM): I’ve mostly stopped bleeding and Tyler is dead.
Very dead. She’d made sure of it. There was a lot someone like her father would do with a dead body, so she’d made a point to separate his head from his body so he couldn’t be resurrected. Baba Yaga spells were rare and costly, but if anyone could get their hands on one, it would be her father. It was why she’d then dumped her stash of holy water on the body and then carefully dusted him in iron shavings, rendering his body and his blood unusable.
The little dots below her conversation on her messenger app popped up and died several times, and Caroline closed her eyes, letting her head fall back as she waited for Bonnie’s response. She’d know that coming to Chicago was a risk, for a number of reasons, but even at her most pessimistic she wasn’t sure she could have guessed just what she’d find here.
What could possibly have led Tyler to be so desperate that he would trust her father? Tyler, who was one of the few people who knew the truth of her origin, who had hugged her when she’d said goodbye and told her he would always care about her. Tyler, whose blood she now wore beneath her nails, who had stabbed her with an iron knife and who had died with hate in eyes.
Her phone buzzed and she glanced down.
Bonnie (1:13 AM): Klaus is in Chicago.
Caroline stared at her phone, surprise and a shot of adrenaline leaving her momentarily breathless. Klaus. Here. In Chicago. The city where Bill had set up his most recent plots, where Tyler had attempted to betray everything that had once made him a good man. Sliding her teeth along her lip, she very carefully typed her reply, her fingers shaking.
Caroline (1:14 AM): You said he was in London for the next month. What changed?
Bonnie (1:15AM): I don’t know.
Bonnie (1:16 AM): Do you need an exit?
Bonnie (1:16 AM): He owes me.
Caroline was shaking her head even before she started typing. Being anywhere near Klaus was a terrible idea, and Bonnie knew that. That her friend would never make the offer unless she thought it necessary left dread sitting low in her stomach.
Caroline (1:16 AM): What’s got you spooked?
Bonnie (1:17 AM): Someone is blocking my scrying spells.
Caroline (1:17 AM): Bill?
Bonnie (1:17 AM): If we’re lucky. We both know what it means if we’re not.
Caroline’s fingers tightened on her phone case, her pulse loud in her ears. Bonnie was right. Very, very few things blocked her from seeing what she wanted to see. Bill could do it thanks to the blood bind but it wasn’t easy, and he never managed it for long periods of time. Grams probably could have done it. But the list of powerful witches who remained alive in the United States after the purging of New Orleans was short.
There was only one reason Bill would use the blood connection between them to block out any outside magic from interfering tonight. She hadn’t just pissed her father off, she’d actively disrupted his plans, and thanks to Bonnie’s magical brilliance, he couldn’t track her easily. But there was another way to drag her to a Fairy Court, and she would have to move very quickly to avoid it.
Baring her teeth in a mimicry of a smile, she gave herself a moment to feel a sharp burst of satisfaction. She had a list on her phone of her father’s potential means of retaliation, and Wild Hunt was right there at the top as the worst possible outcome, but it also meant Tyler must have been far more integral to his plans than she’d guessed. Even knowing that her chances of survival had just taken a serious dip, it did little to dim her pleasure. If she was very, very lucky her father’s precious Queen would feel the need to take out his failure on him directly.
A girl could hope.If she survived the night, she was going to find a fancy bottle of wine and pick up a cupcake. Maybe two cupcakes. She deserved the mini-celebration.
Caroline (1:20AM): I spotted half a dozen of my cousins tonight. I don’t know who holds their allegiance but it probably won’t matter. If Bill is super pissed, he’ll call them all.
Bonnie (1:21 AM): Fuck.
Bonnie (1:21 AM): If it goes bad, don’t be an idiot. Use Klaus.
Caroline (1:21 AM): No.
Caroline (1:22 AM): Favor or not, I killed his hybrid. He doesn’t strike me as forgiving.
Bonnie (1:22 AM): He’s not.
Bonnie (1:23 AM): You don’t have to tell him.
Caroline (1:23 AM): Uh huh. I’ll call you when I’m safe. 🤦😘❤️🏃
Shoving her phone back into her pocket, Caroline exhaled slowly at the bite that was her warning that her magic was nearly tapped dry. Giving herself another half-a-dozen heart beats to celebrate her first major victory, she turned her mind to her problem at hand.
Bonnie had good reason to be worried. It had been almost thirty years since the Queens had summoned a wild hunt to drag one of the half-Fae home for punishment. Bill had made a point to tell her in great details the torture that had awaited her cousin, the way the Queen had plucked his body and his mind apart for his treachery.
Caroline doubted she had become enough of a problem that the Queens would send the hunt, which meant that Bill would be expending a great deal of power to collect her. Her lips twisted, finger tapping silently against the side of her phone. Fae magic was powerful, and so was her father, but it could be circumvented. She needed to concentrate on that, put together her plan.
Pissing her father off twice in one night would normally be her highest priority, but instead what she wanted to think about was the message Bonnie had given her.
 Klaus Mikaelson was in Chicago.
Anticipation was a tantalizing thrill in her veins. She’d hoped the truth of New Orleans would have helped her grow out of her strange obsession. Instead, it left her wanting to know more. It was a struggle, when all she had to do was text Bonnie and ask for a location. She could then finally indulge in the bone deep curiosity that had been part of her life for as long as she could remember. Maybe figure out the cause of her obsession with a monster she’d never met.
She might’ve, if only doing so tonight wouldn’t put everyone she cared about in danger.
Caroline slid her lip between her teeth, letting the small hurt ground her. If she thought her father hated her enough to call down a Wild Hunt now, exposing the Fae’s secrets to Klaus would make his rage burn even more bitterly. She’d honestly have done it years ago out of spite if such a move would only put her in the crosshairs of the courts, but it wouldn’t.
Bonnie and Enzo would also be marked.
The High Courts currently considered her rebellion to be a family matter, though one Bill was unable to control adequately. She could not risk a Queen deciding she was her enemy in truth, not yet. Not when she was so close to figuring out how to banish her father permanently to the otherside of the Veil.
She’d be thrilled to just killing him, but she long since accepted that might not be possible. Tyler had been right, when he’d called her a monster. When he’d called all of them monsters. He just hadn’t understood that for all of the terrible things in this world that there were worse fate’s hidden behind the veil in between the worlds, horrors lovingly encouraged in Underhill that could break a human mind merely with their existence.
Earth had pushed the Fae back with their iron and religion all those years ago, had sealed the veil with witch magic, and humanity considered themselves victorious. But the truth was all they had done was defer the fight for the territory the Fae claimed as theirs to own to a different day.
The Fae hadn’t forgotten humanity nor had they forgiven them for their defeat. Banished behind magic, the Fae watched and watched and hungered. They had waited for the time that they had truly passed into myth, until the world forgot how to defeat them with a dangerous patience. But the nature of the Fae was as capricious as it was violent, and not all agreed on waiting.
Some had altered their plans and plotted a different course of action.
The Great Experiment.
Caroline supposed she should be grateful for that impatience, it was the reason for her existence, but all she could muster just then was a familiar anger. For six hundred years, members of the High Courts had mingled their blood among humans, hoping to breed children with resistance to both iron and the religion, the tools that had locked them away from the world that had once been theirs. And their plan had produced some success, though not always how they had hoped.
She was one such success.
Elizabeth Forbes had never been comfortable with her half-Fae child, but she’d also refused to abandon her to a world filled with monsters. Instead, she’d taught her daughter the good and the bad of humanity, had shown her the world as it was and what it could be. Her father saw her as a tool, a means to an end. Her mother’s love had been gruff and uneasy, but she’d tried.
She would never, ever forget that.
Or forgive Bill for her death.
Caroline had defied her father and his magic, had pitted herself against his will as she vowed vengeance for killing the one thing she’d ever claimed as her own. Her mother.
Hunting Bill required care and a meticulous eye for detail, and a particular stubbornness she had in spades. His magic was more powerful than hers, but he had always underestimated his only child by Liz, brushed her off as not powerful or clever enough for his schemes. It’s been a deliberate decision of hers to hide what she was capable of, hoping that such a ploy would save her mother. Now, she used her magic against him with the same ruthlessness he had taught her as a child.
But she was just one half-breed among hundreds, and so she’d learned to be careful. She wasn’t even the most powerful of those born on this side of the veil and underhanded ambush tactics had always served her better than brute force. A disruption there, a few dozen murder’s here. Just enough to skew her father’s chessboard while she worked to uncover the truth of his plotting. The fewer of her cousins who were able to carry out the will of her father and his fellow full blooded Fae’s plots, the safer humanity was from a terrible strike.
But she couldn’t kill them all, though she’d certainly tried. Her family did not die easily, and magic lingered in places of terrible violence like fingerprints. Each kill was a risk that could lead to her death. Over the years, it’s become clear that if she wanted to destroy her fathers plots, she couldn’t do it alone. The tie that connected them, the thread that burned so clearly now in her chest with her father’s rage, meant that she’d never be truly safe from him. Blood ties were not easily broken.
But Caroline knew witches, so she’d returned home, to the place where the only people she trusted still lived. Tyler had already been gone by then, lost in his need for vengeance, but Bonnie had been there, lingering in the ashes of conquest almost as if she’d been waiting.
It was then that Caroline had learned that humanity's greatest monster had become its potential savior. That the true potential of Ester’s terrible offspring had finally been unlocked. Klaus Mikaelson had broken his curse.
Her fingers curled into her palms, the strange, bone-deep curiosity that ground her joints together every time she thought of his name a familiar sensation. Klaus had broken his strange Sun and Moon curse in the forest she knew so well, had cut a bloody path through everyone who tried to oppose him, and laid the foundations for the army of hybrids he was determined to build. His perfect army that feared neither sun nor death and were unnaturally loyal.
Hybrids that Bonnie had helped create.
Her best friend rarely spoke of the events that led to the creation of the hybrids, refusing to give Caroline even the smallest detail of how a hybrid was made. Even tucked away in her home in Maine twenty years later, hidden by both Fae and witch magic. Caroline might not have the hows involved, but she knew the whys.
It all circled back to Bill.
Liz hadn’t been the only causality of her father’s hunger for power, just the first in their small town. Murdering Sheila Bennett had been a mistake in that it had set Bonnie against Bill, but it fit the pattern Caroline was starting to see in her father’s plans. Liz had been human, but one whose family had been deeply entrenched in the supernatural for generations. Sheila Bennett had been powerful, but she’d been born of the witch line that had created the Otherside. Gram’s had made sure her death had cost Bill, but it hadn’t been enough to stop his plans as Tyler’s presence tonight had proven.
Sometimes, Caroline wondered why Bonnie didn’t hate her. Bill was a scourge that returned time and time again, because her blood allowed it. Maybe if she’d been stronger they’d have been able to protect their families. But what she couldn’t protect, she could avenge.
Bonnie had agreed to help. Had been working on her own plans for years. The first real foothold into Bill’s master plan had been with the Augustine Society. Bonnie had been watching them for months before Caroline’s return, humans who had relentlessly experimented on vampires. They’d staged a rescue for the vampire that had been imprisoned, and it had been Enzo who had known of Tyler.
Tyler who had been the first of Klaus’ successful hybrids, whose loyalty was a shaky thing despite whatever magic bound him to his maker. Her childhood sweetheart who yearned for freedom from the yolk he had chosen. It’d taken months to go through the society’s notes they’d managed to save, to dig into the texts they had been experimenting with.
They’d known so much but understood so little.
But one thing had become crystal clear.
Bill was trying to bring down the Veil. Not unexpected, as most of the Fae worked to destroy it. But Bill also worked to understand what had led to the banishment of the Fae, so he could break it better.
It had been humans, werewolves and witches who had originally created the veil, blocking the Fae Lords from returning in great numbers after their banishment, forcing them to squeeze through cracks when the veil between worlds was thin or use now defunct gates. When iron had slowly lost its grip on the world, they might have managed more but for Qetsiyah.
Bonnie’s ancestor had been clever. When she’d bound the otherside, trapping Amara in stone and Silas forever out of her reach, she’d sunk the power of those souls into the Veil between humanity and the Fae, creating a second anchor. An additional failsafe to guarantee that no Supernatural would be so foolish as to undo her work.
Witch. Vampire. Werewolf. Hybrid. When they died, they were shuffled into Qetsiyah’s chosen afterlife, and their souls protected humanity. Humans were spared that fate, but their very existence acted a detriment to the Fae, as it was humanity who embraced iron.
The fastest way to destroy the Veil would be to free Silas. For a while, she and Bonnie had worried that he would succeed. But no one knew where Qetsiyah had hidden Silas’ body, and for all of her father’s attempts to restart Silas’ little cult, he’d always failed. The last real surge in members had ended when they’d been slaughtered, setting her father back decades.
The only other way to destroy what Qetsiyah had put into place would be to destroy the Veil at the root. And while no one understood the magic that had cast out the Fae so many years ago, her father didn’t need to understand the magic of the Veil to break it. He just needed dominion over it. But that was no easy task. Humans and witches could be bribed or fooled. Werewolves hovered at the brink of extinction. But the children of Esther, the hybrids that now walked the earth, defied every master but one. And so her father gathered his pieces and worked to subjugate Klaus’ creations in secret.
Caroline had tried to save Tyler.
She’d tried to talk him out of the part that Bill needed him to play. He’d refused. And the betrayal had burned like acid in her gut.
It had been Tyler, who had helped her dig Elizabeth Forbes’ grave. Her friend who had given her his gloves when her palms started to bleed, had said nothing when her tears had made her clumsy. It had been Tyler who sat with her and Bonnie, listening as Grams told them of the dangers in the world after Caroline had announced she was leaving. But her friend had died long before Caroline had killed him.
She shivered in the wind.
She knew Klaus played his part in that. It was impossible not to. It had been because of Tyler that she’d ended up in New Orleans, after all. The whispers of the destruction of the city, of how entire witch lines had been lost to madness and death had not adequately captured the horror of it. She’d seen what Klaus had left behind: werewolf packs left in ruin, the survivors turned and bound to his will. Broken witches and terror ridden vampires.
But rarely death. Klaus was not so kind to let his true enemies escape him in such a way. Instead, his wake left behind living ghosts. At least in this, she had done her best by her old friend. Whatever had driven him, whatever horror he had witnessed that had turned him so fully against her, she hoped he could find peace from it now.
She wasn’t so sure she’d be so lucky. Klaus was a spector in her life that she didn’t know if she could escape. And tonight, she’d killed his first hybrid. She grimaced. Klaus would not take to that news kindly. Best if she was long gone when he learned of it.
She wondered if she could manage it. She already felt the pull in her chest, the need to see, to touch, burning through her. It has always been like this. When Grams had first mentioned his name all those years ago, she’d felt the smallest of pulls, a jolt of curiosity. A tug she couldn’t explain. And everytime she thought his name, every time she heard another whisper of the night terrors he created, the tug to search him out grew stronger.
She’d deliberately chosen to look for those horrors once, hoping the truth of his nature would terrify her into running away. Instead, the monster that she had cultivated since she was seventeen and covered in her mother’s blood had approved. The more she learned, the more she wanted to know.
It was why she’d helped Bonnie disappear. Whatever happened between her and Klaus, she was determined to protect her friends from the fall out of it. But she was not the only Fae who hunted for information about Klaus, and Bonnie Bennet had helped create his hybrids.
Her people would destroy Bonnie, if they learned that truth. That a witch from Qetsiyah’s line had once again worked great magic against them would light the fires of their impotent rage for a long, long time. As long as Klaus and his hybrids roamed the earth, it made their chances of winning a war that much harder.
Fae magic was powerful, but given forced limitations by the rules they had to follow. Klaus and his creations were bound by no such things. And they were swallowing the world.
It had been nearly five years since the first hint of a hybrid returning to the US since New Orleans had raced through the Supernatural community. Over the decades, the US communities had watched from a distance as Klaus had bent Europe to his will, his creations breaking across city after city like a wave, choking out any dissent in their paths.
London, Paris, Milan. They all fell at Klaus’ feet with little more than a whimper.
The first real sign of his return had been when he turned New Orleans into a witches' graveyard, and then his gaze had turned to Chicago. Her father was no fool, he had to have known that Klaus had made this city the seat of his power in the States. Bill was far too cunning to risk catching Klaus’ attention unless he had a plan, and not knowing the exact details of what that plan was worried her.
Though she could guess part of it.
A sharp whistle cut through the air, and Caroline’s gaze cut along the rigid angles and sharply jutting corners of the builders around her, but she maintained her hiding place. She had no intention of being flushed out of cover like a bird they intended to net but she needed to come up with a plan.
Glancing at her watch, she grimaced.
It was nearly two in the morning.
If her father had chosen to call a Wild Hunt, she had roughly sixty minutes until the witching hour of three A.M. struck, and the Hunt was let loose. The blood tie to her father might have eroded to the point that he could no longer use it to force her obedience, but they had never managed to break it entirely. Fae magic was tricky. Blood ties more so. Instead, Bonnie had done her best to cloud it, to thin the connection to a single, potent thread.
A Wild Hunt would cut through the witch magic hiding her and return her to her father. Caroline was certain the only reason Bill hadn’t tried to do such a thing before was because of the cost. Calling a Hunt took a great deal of personal power. She would only have one shot of slipping away, and the risk of being caught by her father’s soldiers was dangerously high.
 Klaus was in Chicago.
Her fingers clenched, and Caroline put her phone away. She wouldn’t risk Bonnie or Enzo by going to Klaus, not yet. Not with Tyler’s blood fresh on her hands. But that didn’t mean she still couldn’t use his presence in the city to her advantage. In a game of half-breeds, it always came down to who was the better gambler.
Supernatural cities always had seedy vampire nightclubs and supernatural friendly bars littered throughout. When Klaus had taken over Chicago, he had commandeered several for his own use. But there was one club in particular that she’d pinned down as potentially being part of his stomping grounds; the number of bodies that were secretly removed from the club gave credence to her theory, though she supposed it could just be a place that attracted excess stupidity.
If she was going to have a chance tonight, she needed to go into that club and stay just long enough to let the scent of mingling supernaturals hide her trail so she could slip away undetected and find a place she could hide from the magic seeking her. If she was lucky, Klaus’ potential presence would act as a deterrent.
It was a risk.
Not only because she needed to keep her own blood-lust in check, but because she had never before let herself venture close enough to Klaus to risk catching a single glimpse of him. She was magically exhausted and wounded, the slow crawl of thirst thick in her throat, and her bones ached with the insistent need that made no logical sense.
She would have to be so very careful. Still, for now, her glamour was holding. Setting her teeth, Caroline turned and headed to the heartbeat of the city. Tonight, she’d find a way to live and tomorrow she’d call Bonnie and they’d work out a plan for her to escape. And she’d have to do it without indulging in a curiosity that had no name but was a pulse in her blood.

Trust The Cat: Theo Raeken x reader
Requested by anonymous
Warnings: curse words, angst, fluff, bad plot
Word count: 3k
A/n: First of all, I am soooo sorry that this isn't very good. I will probably make a part 2 for this so maybe that'll be better.
Tumblr media
Unlike most supernaturals in Beacon Hills, you weren't very close with the McCall Pack. Well to be fair you weren't that much of a nonhuman anyway, having 10% of yourself being witch and the other pure human. But still, you knew rituals that had to be done for certain things and plants bloomed longer around you. The rituals would maybe be useful for the pack but your parents strictly forbid you from talking to any supernatural other than your family's black familiar cat Diablerie, your father and your grandmother. Your grandmother being half-witch and father being quarter of a witch...or whatever you'd like to call it for men.
But still, at school, Scott had noticed that the almost dead anthuriums on the window had come back to life when you had sat beside them. So safe to say, right after school you were questioned by Scott and Stiles. Knowing full well who they were, you knew better than to run off. Scott would catch you anyway. So, you decided to stay and talk to them.
That had gotten you into being a secret informant if they were dealing with something. You were an absolute mythical creatures nerd so only by hearing few details about something abnormal happening, you already had a list of creatures who could do it.
So when dread doctors came around and you couldn't figure out at first who it was, Scott constantly checked in with you. That of course got Theo's attention.
And so, him seducing you and giving you all sorts of attention started. Your naive nerd self didn't think twice about it. Stiles warned you, he told you he was suspicious, he told you not to get involved with him, he told you something was very off with him. But his warnings were overrun by Theo's good looks and sweet words.
Little did you know, all he wanted was information from you. You had the bad habit of blabbing out secrets of all kind once you got talking. Could've been anything from something minor you did in kindergarten to pack secrets you were trusted with.
But when you finally saw his true colors, you were wrecked.
Why didn't you listen to Stiles? Why didn't you think everything over before rushing into the relationship like you usually do? Why would someone as good looking as Theo even want to be with you? You were a nerd for fuck's sake! Didn't even really have any friends. Yes, you were part of a nature club but that really wasn't something to stand out with.
Why didn't you listen to Diablerie when she attacked him? Every single person in your family knows to always listen to a familiar's intuition. In this case Diablerie knowing that Theo is not to be trusted.
After finding out about Theo's betrayal - and after his sister had dragged him away - you distanced yourself from the pack, afraid you'd blab out more secrets.
Other than Stiles, none of them could even come into your garden. Your grandmother and father had set all sorts of traps and spells over your living quarters. If anyone who didn't have the blood of your great-grandmother but was a supernatural even dared to put their pinky toe over the invisible border, they'd quite literally fall six feet into the ground.
~~~
You had just gotten back from your long trip to Monaco with your family.
With great hesitation, you had sneaked off to Scott's house. Telling your nosy mother that you were going to the library. Wouldn't say you were lying since that was your plan after.
Now you were here, wanting to get this over with before Diablerie would somehow send a signal to your mom that in fact no, you weren't at the library like you told her. The damn cat was very cute and huge help very often but was also too loyal to your parents for your good. Her being able to know everything about everyone in your family didn't help at all.
"Let's get this over with, I don't have much time until Diablerie-" you cut off as your e/c eyes connected with certain blue ones. Mouth still open, eyes growing wide, you slowly turned your body towards Stiles before grabbing him by the ear and dragging him to another room, muttering, "Let's have a word."
You shut the door after letting his ear go. Seething, you turned towards the brunette boy who was rubbing his ear. "What the actual FUCK STILES?!" you hissed like a snake.
"Look, I know I was the one to say he is dangerous and off and all that and he was. I was right, nobody wants to listen to me though," he gave you an accusing look but your angry expression didn't waver, if anything, it got even more furious. "Okay, okay. So, Liam and Hayden might have released Theo because, well, ask them." You blinked. What the hell? What were they thinking?!
"Stiles what the hell were you dealing with here?" You asked. "The Wild Hunt," he simply answered. Your mythology nerd self got switched on by those three words. "The Wild Hunt? Like the English type? Or the Norse like? Or some else type?" your curiosity made you forget your lying bitch of an ex for sometime. Stiles was at loss of an answer, "Uuuuuummm, I dunno, just Wild Hunt?" You rolled your eyes, reason for this conversation coming back to you. "Alright, well why is he still here?" You asked furiously. You were scared actually, scared of Theo because after you had gotten to know everything he could do, everything he had done, anyone in their right mind would be scared.
"Because he has changed?" Stiles replied as if it was an obvious thing. "HOW CAN YOU KNOW THAT?" you yelled. Actually yelled. You didn't need to be a were-something to be able to here that from outside of the bedroom the two of you 'hid' in.
"Listen Y/n, I know it may be hard to believe but he took away Gabe's pain before he passed. And you know a bond needs to be created for that. And he-he sacrificed himself basically and-" Stiles sighed when he saw your wide eyes staring back at him, they were getting glossy. Did he really do all that? Had he changed? Was it a game again? Was it a lie? But if he really took away Gabe's - whoever that is but seems like a good guy - pain then it can't be a lie. Right?
You were skeptical. Your trust had been broken, your heart had been broken, your soul had been broken. All by Theo Raeken. Were you really up for trusting him to be near the others and yourself? To be free?
"I... I should go," you mumbled. Silently, you opened the door and walked out. Every single person in the living room was looking at you, as you rushed through it. Grabbing your backpack. For a moment, your eyes met with Theo's. He looks cute with his new hair. Wait, what the fuck am I thinking? He smiled at you, making you frown. You looked away and walked out of the house, muttering a 'bye' in the process.
~~~
At home, you were reading "The Lunar Chronicles: Cinder." If staring at a book with a troubled face, thinking about a certain someone else and not memorizing any words from the pages counts as reading.
Giving up on trying to read, you grabbed your phone from beside you. You went on instagram, curious on why you have a notification there because you had no viral life either. You were horrible at taking selfies, so no basic girl posts from you, not a big meme maker nor artist who posts their stuff. You just followed your friends and some tags.
Turns out the notification was a follow request.
From Theo.
Your thumb stood over the Accept button. Your breath hitching when you realized that his profile picture was of you two making silly faces. You took your finger away and pressed the back button.
Sighing you picked up the book again. "Diablerie, what do I do?" The black feline rose her head. "Meow?" As you were petting the she-cat's head, you let out another sigh.
"You remember Theo right?"
"Meow."
"Well he is back."
"Meow," Diablerie nodded. What, she knew?
"And he apparently is different."
"Mow?" The familiar stood up and cocked her head to the side, as if asking either 'if you believed that?' or 'is that true?'
"I- I don't know. I mean Stiles believes that and you know he was right the last time."
Diablerie was quiet for sometime, staring at your blanket but not really because her gaze was unfocused. She was standing still on the blanket, tail twitching, ears facing different directions and tail tip twitching but not in an aggressive way. You realized that she was thinking.
You gazed at the queen for sometime before she finally returned her gaze back to you. "Meow!" she sounded determined but you had no idea what she just said. "Um..."
Diablerie gave you an unimpressed look when after 5minutes, you still hadn't realized what she told you.
The feline hopped down from your bed and headed towards your closet, tail high. You were confused on what the heck she was doing. With some difficulties, the she-cat climbed to where you kept your shirts. One of Theo's old shirts is there. Your e/c eyes widened as you remembered that. That shirt had been something that you lived your hate and betrayal because of a certain blue-eyed boy out on when he was dragged away by his sister. It was torn, absolutely ragged, had burn marks and looked very ugly with the stains of uncountable different things on it.
Once you realized what Diablerie was looking for, you got off the bed and went to help the familiar.
You pulled the drawer back and stuck your hand down to try and find the ragged piece of clothing. You didn't even know why you kept it, with your own clean shirts nevertheless.
The miniature panther like animal balanced herself on the side of the drawer as you pulled it and hopped down when you were pushing it back in and walking back to the bed.
Placing it on the bed, you gave the cat a face full of unanswered questions. With no difficulty whatsoever, Diablerie hopped back on the bed
She set her paw gently on the shirt. Still not getting it, you stared at your cat cluelessly.
"Theo?"
"Meow."
"Umm..."
Diablerie had a scowl on her raven black face at your response.
She placed her paw yet again on the ragged piece of fabric and then did a spin.
"Spin Theo?"
The cat shook her head.
Diablerie hopped down from the bed again and walked out of your room. Dumbfoundedly, you just stared after her in confusion.
As you were waiting for Diablerie to come back, your phone buzzed. Looking down, you saw a notification pop up, saying that you had a message.
Unknown: «Hey!»
The message was from an unknown number which freaked you out. Was this a scam? Had you accidentally deleted someone's contact? Was there a proje- no you weren't in school anymore.
As you were debating on if you should answer or not, another text came through.
Unknown: «It's Theo»
You froze. No, no way. No way in hell that he is texting you now.
Unknown: «Just wanted to let you know that this is my new number»
Unknown: «You can message and call me anytime you want»
Unknown: «I'm sorry»
You gulped, staring at the last message as your eyesight blurred, tears fighting to break free. Finally, few trailed down your cheeks. Who were you kidding? You weren't over it.
You wanted to believe that he really was sorry but how could you know that he wasn't using you this time?
Soft fur being rubbed against your arm broke you out of your thoughts. "Meow."
Diablerie placed something on your lap. You rubbed your eyes to see what the familiar brought. It was a picture of her and you. It was of your 12th birthday, when your grandmother had brought Diablerie to your family after the raven Sombra had passed. Diablerie had been only 8 months old then but was already wiser than you.
"You?" It took you few moments before it clicked. "You want to meet him?" Diablerie purred happily as a confirmation to your words.
You gulped, e/c eyes returning to the picture in hand.
"Mow."
The feline was staring at your phone screen that was darkening, about to close, texts from Theo open.
"I-Okay, okay, I'll do it."
Hands shaking, you grabbed your phone and quickly tapped on the screen so it wouldn't turn off.
The nessage you were about to send had to be deleted many times because you just couldn't touch the right keys. Heart hammering, you pressed send.
You: «Meet me tomorrow at 6pm, you know where»
Saving his number, you finally let yourself breath.
Theo: «Okay! Sounds great😁»

"And where are you going?" your little sister asked suspiciously just as you were about to run out the door.
"Out. Didn't know you were blind. Sis, tell mom to get you glasses," you rushed out. Your sister threw a glare your way. "So you of all people are going out looking all fancy just because? As if."
Smiling innocently, you flipped her off before shutting the door.
Diablerie was napping on the gate but rose her head when you neared. "Okay, let's go."
You didn't even know why you had put on the best clothes you could find and put on makeup. You weren't trying to impress Theo, right? You were just checking if he was trustworthy. I hope he is.
~~~
It was 5:55pm when you stepped into the small clearing in the forest. You could see Theo there, he had flowers in his hands and was dressed in a pretty casual way. Now you felt embarrassed that you had put in so much effort to look nice. You thought about backing out and going away but a certain someone was already trotting towards the man, whip like tail held high.
Theo heard the feather like steps Diablerie took in the grass and his eyes widened. He straightened his back. His last encounter with the cat hadn't been positive and truth be told, he feared the cat.
You could see the nervousness in your ex's face and were now convinced that he was out for no good and planning something again. But then, then you saw the tiger lilies in his hands and your heart warmed up. They were your favorites and he remembered it.
Now a bit more confident, you walked up to him. Still eyeing the cat with one eye, he gazed at you with the other.
"Y/n! Hi, you look great!" He smiled widely. "Here, these are your favorites, right?" he stepped closer to you and stretched out the hand that was gripping the flowers. "Yeah... Thanks," you accepted the tiger lilies, keeping your eyes on Diablerie. The cat did few circles around Theo, padded a bit closer and then sniffed him. "Uhm..." the blue-eyed man was confused and gave you a questioning look. The only response he got was an awkward smile from you. Deep down, you knew that you hoped that Diablerie would approve of him.
As the cat took more and more time to give her approval, you were beginning to think that Theo hadn't changed and was still untrustworthy and evil. But just as you wanted to turn around and run away, Diablerie let out a pleased purr and rubbed her body against Theo's legs. He was confused and surprised while a genuine smile stretched onto your face. The warm feeling of happiness spread throughout your body. He had changed, for real.
"You really have changed," you mumbled and - surprising both yourself and Theo - threw yourself onto him, arms wrapped around his built torso and face buried into his chest, squeezing the life out of him. Slowly, the man wrapped his arms around you and buried his face into your hair. "I have no idea what just happened but I'm not complaining," he laughed.
You grinned.
"Now, Theo, you better tell me what the hell happened while I was tanning in Monaco?" you demanded curiously as you pulled away to look up at him. The blue-eyed man laughed, "Well..."
~~~
"Theo, you are not sleeping in your truck," you told him sternly. "Well I can't go anywhere else, babe," he shrugged. "Surely you have friends here now who you can stay with." Theo tongued his cheek, "But I can't stay with them forever Y/n. I missed school so much that I can't graduate, I can't go to college and literally no one will hire me." You stared at him while chewing on your cheek, "Then... Go back to school?"
"Can't."
"Why?"
"One word, broke."
"Then, we will find a way to get you a job but you will not sleep in your truck for the rest of your life Theo!"
Theo sighed but smiled at you, "Okay." He ran his hand through your hair before it froze on your cheek, he pulled you towards him a bit and kissed your forehead. "But you, you will go to sleep."
You chuckled, "Fine," you giggled, dragging out the i.
As you pulled away, you stared at him with your sparkling e/c eyes for sometime. "Theo, I like your new hair, you better keep it," you said all of a sudden. When you realized that you had said it out loud, you blushed while Theo laughed. "Well I'm glad to hear me not having enough money to get a haircut is up to your liking." He shut up when you kissed his cheeks and ran back towards your house.
He stood there until the door to your house closed behind Diablerie and you. Once again, a sigh left the blue-eyed boy.
He will try to get a job again tomorrow.
He will try to be up to your parents liking because he knew they absolutely despised him right now.
He will try but he can't promise anything.
~~~
It was 8 months later when Theo finally got a job. You had moved to New York to study Archaeology.
You had a job there to support yourself as a delivery driver for Domino's. The two of you kept a long distance relationship since neither of you had enough money to fly Theo over to the Big Apple.
A Spanish restaurant decided to give him a chance and you were both ecstatic when you got the news. "I'm so proud of you, baby," you cheered over Skype. "The people there seemed very nice, though I have to admit, I accidentally bumped into the Chef there already. A fiery Latina, so I better keep up my best behavior." The both of you laughed.
"How are the other doing?" You asked with a warm smile. "Well other than Stiles, I have no idea. You know almost everyone left to chase their dreams. Not that the supernaturals care, pretty sure Scott will return soon. Shit will go crazy soon." Your boyfriend's turned chalk white as he realized that he let it slip.
Worry clouded your face, "Theo... What's going on?"
