having an english degree but really only enjoying modern literature can really make someone engage with imposter syndrome. like i love dystopian ya novels, they’re so bad but in such a good way. and they’re criticized so heavily, so i don’t tell people in academic spaces that i love those novels. and then i feel as though i have to say my favorite novel is war and peace or pamela. and it sucks… let academics in literature enjoy books that are shit on by the public. let academics love the hunger games or the twilight series. just because a piece of literature is old and taught in any high level lit class, doesn’t mean everyone likes it. down with stuck up academics.

the modern villainisation of demeter will never cease to enrage me bc it wasn’t ENOUGH to just take a story of a girl being torn from her home from everyone who loved her and dragged away to be forced into marriage and twist and corrupt it until it was a romance story about female empowerment that wasn’t ENOUGH they HAD to take the original hero of the story the mother who went to every length to find her daughter again to bring her home and demonise her character until she was this horrific overbearing unloving mother. overprotective controlling without love. they turn the story of her grief at her YOUNG daughter being torn from her without her knowledge into the story of a misunderstood bad boy and a horrible cruel mother who won’t give him a chance and i really find it sickening. it’s ironic, that the ever misogynist age of hellenistic greece, has a better grasp of how disgusting and horrifying this situation was that a modern, self proclaimed ‘feminist’ era.

If I see one more take about Orym being "secretive" in taking the sword, I swear I might start screaming. The dude walked up to Chet in front of everyone, asked for access to the Bag of Holding, took the sword out (in front of everyone) and left with it. Then he came back with the sword strapped to his back... IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. There was ample time for someone to speak up if they wanted to and Orym, quite frankly, didn't have reason to expect it would be an issue. Laudna may have used the lack of discussion as part of her cycle of justifications for her actions, but that doesn't mean it was 1) the main issue she was actually dealing with or 2) an unsolvable problem that required a rash response even if that had been Laudna's primary issue.

I feel like people don’t talk about the aspects of Hannibal’s cannibalistic desires towards Will because I’m 70% sure that Hannibal would consider the absorption of a loved one in a sensory aspect as well.
Like he can hear, see, smell and touch Will, so of course he would want to taste him as well. Taste is a human sense constructed for delight and he would want to delight in being able to experience his loved ones on that level, like it’s the sensory experience of eating another and perceiving them with that taboo sense.
I’d also like to entertain the scene where Hannibal pricked his finger on the fishing gear and tasted the blood. Like is that not a taste for the sensory experience? Of course it could be a reference to kissing but he wanted to perceive what an object of Will’s would taste like when mended with himself, metal on metal.
I really need to rewatch Hannibal while entertaining this lens more I think it would be really interesting.

the gorgug-porter conversation is interesting to me because like. yea for the overwhelming majority of the conversation porter’s being shitty & trying to fit gorgug into a box that gorgug just does not fit into by trying to make gorgug’s relationship with his rage more focused on the aggression aspect of it. but then there’s also this specific thing that brennan brought up again in the ap, which is that gorgug’s relationship with his rage is wholly “this is a tool i use to protect my friends.” which isn’t a bad thing! but that’s his Whole relationship with it, & gorgug seems to place next to no value on his rage in relationship to himself. which is problematic, because it’s first & foremost his rage.
being raised in a household with a sort of toxic positivity largely meant that, whether or not it was his parents’ intention, gorgug internalized the message that more traditionally “negative” emotions such as anger are the wrong response to something. part of the reason he prioritizes his artificing is probably because it’s “fixing” things. in comparison to being a barbarian, which gorgug associates with “breaking” things. good vs. bad behavior, in his eyes.
it’s a totally unacceptable bar to measure a 16 y/o by, but i do think part of porter’s reasoning for not letting gorgug multiclass is him recognizing that gorgug generally does not value anger as a valid emotional response to something, at the very least for himself. & that directly conflicts with what being a barbarian is, because whether you like it or not, that rage is what fuels you. but again, barring a kid from pursuing something they deeply care about in part (not entirely, porter has a lot of more bullshit reasons) because of their fundamental values & world outlook is crazy.
so yes, 98% of porter’s reasoning is pretty shitty, immature, rife with a toxic view that there’s only one proper way to access rage, & generally not a good thing to do as a teacher, but also within that reasoning is the 2% of ‘there is a fundamental part of yourself that you only value if you can use it to take care of other people & you need to accept that as something that can take care of you, too.’ but that’s something to discuss with a therapist or a guidance counselor, not something that should hugely impact gorgug’s academic future.
#gorgug thistlespring#fantasy high#dimension 20#fhjy#fhjy spoilers#btw these r just my personal opinions u r 100% free to disagree#gorgug & his rage interest me so deeply because of how deeply that rage existing seems to be against gorgug’s own will#like mechanically classes are choices & you can switch stuff around any time. but gorgug as a barbarian always felt like an unwilling choice#like that 14 y/o kid did not want to have rage. & that really interests me.#i’ve seen people before be like ‘what if gorgug dropped barbarian & went full srtificer’ but i feel like that simply can’t happen??#mechanically yea sure but it always felt like a core part of gorgug that the rage will always be there & it’s a matter of how you channel it#idk. dnd classes narratively being treated as ‘you can not lose this part of you’ even though you technically can#gorgug could be lvl 19 artificer & he’d still have 1 level of barbarian. because that is part of who he is.#btw i don’t think porter truly cares about gorgug valuing his rage only as a way to be a human shield#i think porter just sees that as ‘wrong’ but like. not as in ‘you need to take care of yourself’ & more ‘you arent conforming’#he thinks it’s wrong for the wrong reasons. the nastier ‘this is how you should be’ reasons#ppl being like ‘we r being too hard on porter. it’s an 150% courseload gorgug will be overwhelmed’ i think r missing the point bc like.#that is 100% a valid reason to not approve gorgug for multiclassing! but that’s also 100% not the reason porter rejected him.#that whole interaction was basically porter shoving his percieved version of conformity down gorgug’s throat. was v neurodivergent kid coded#no hate to anyone saying that last point btw these r all just opinions#thinking about last ep wilma & digby being like ‘you’re a great barbarian. you’re so great at it. but look at what you made!!!’ like.#they would never mean it like that. but when you only understand half of your son he is going to prioritize the half you do.

I think that Kieran should have gotten some validation that Ogerpon liked them / wanted to be their friend btw. Not necessarily get to be her Trainer, even, but just get to pet her or hug her, maybe. Kieran’s story feels incomplete without that important story beat resolved, because Kieran not feeling good enough for Ogerpon is a huge catalyst for their corruption arc.

Okay my copy of agit came in the mail today and I just read the whole thing, so now I can finally share my thoughts.
First of all, love it, literally the only thing I was iffy about the whole time was the fact that they used smartphones and contemporary slang instead of keeping everything from the shows original time period. I personally would have preferred it maintain the 2005-ness of the original show, but I can understand why the author chose to modernize it.
Secondly, the whole two doors thing at the end where his choices were “no powers” or “no phantom planet” very obviously only existed so phantom planet could be retconned out of existence—not that I’m complaining, I’m just saying it was not subtle. (But also phantom planet no longer canon can I get a fuck yeah)
And lastly thank you AGIT for canonizing that Dan calls himself Phantom as his only name because goddamn it is so hard to write anything serious or emotional when the main character’s name is fucking Dan. I’m sorry ppl named Dan but I cannot take your inner turmoil seriously (not when I’m writing in third person, anyway. It really takes me out of the moment. The vibes are awful.)

Hot take: Hans was a great villain, some of you cannot get over your crush on him to see that the villain twist not only makes sense, but is important for Anna’s character especially.
How oftentimes, growing up in sheltered environments makes people more susceptible to be manipulated… which Anna was. To show how her desperation of love could be used against her by people who don’t really give a shit about her.

Nina was still a minor during season 3, if they just said her gran passed, or wasn't able to take care of her and she couldn't come back to england because of legal reasons it would have been fine. Like if she was in foster care and kept bouncing around different places and that's why she couldn't communicate very often because letters got lost, and she didn't have a consistent wifi connection or something, it would make more sense than just "I'm not in england and therefore I can never speak to anyone in england ever in any way" This show loves the miscommunication trope, why not add it with the whole long distance, unreliable communication thing.
I think they just wanted to eliminate the opportunity for people to assume Nina could ever come back tbh. Like from a writing standpoint it was such overkill to add the ghosting plot, but like… Nina was just not coming back and there was nothing they could do about it lol. I genuinely think people need to move on. Write a fanfic or take a chill pill imo

This is a bigger, more nuanced issue than most people will be capable of handling but I’m so tired man. I’m not saying you need to find Pete Wentz innocent or even like the guy, I’m just asking you to think critically and acknowledge that there might be a reason why this is happening to one of the only black men in the scene.
And before anyone says ‘I didn’t know he was Black’ or ‘that’s not common knowledge’ I need you to know that I see you. I see you jokingly call him other black celebrities names (because that’s always so funny) and I saw you when you shared a link to a article that used uncomfortably racist language in reference to him as proof (cushioned lips?? Call him mammy why don’t you?) or when he wore his hair natural and people called him a monkey. I saw you. Me and all the other brown people here. We saw you. I’m not stupid, I know you know. I’m done letting the schrodingers nigger shit slide, I’m not gonna let you guys claim him as white when it’s convenient for you to be excused of racism. Your words about someone who looked like us made our little baby selves—bright eyed and so happy to find somewhere we belonged, same as you—hate ourselves. I hated looking like Ray Toro, because he was princess fro fro and you all said it in the most derogatory way possible that even he thought he was ugly. And I hated looking like Pete wentz and I hated looking like travie mccoy and I hated being black and I hated being myself. And it was this scene, that’s supposed to be for outcasts and the people that didn’t fit in but god forbid you don’t fit the mold of white with Christian/catholic trauma.
I’m a victim of grooming myself, and I understand that sometimes you don’t have evidence or you don’t want to talk about it and that’s okay! But I’m also black, and I remember being a kid and watching everyone and I mean everyone throw Pete Wentz under the bus because he was an easy target. Everyone did it. He was one of the biggest names in the and he was mentally ill and black and spiraling. This whole situation hasn’t sat right with me from the beginning. No one talks about brendon urie being a predator, and I see plenty of ryden shippers on my dash still. No one talks about Gerard way and Eliza cuts. I know you people don’t actually care about this poor girl. This is all just clicks and clout and notes for you, and it’s so obvious considering all of the people I’ve seen posting negative things about Pete are self confessed misandrists and Lynz stans and waycest shippers.
But what do I know.
