#i have no problem with not wanting to acknowledge canon if you're looking to ship your own self or ocs with characters that have canon RIs

mkay, i usually dont do this. i usually mind my own business and shit talk in my head but i'm not going to lie i'm so annoyed, i really need to get it off my chest before i go about this the wrong way.
hating female characters because they dared to be your fave's CANON RI IS NOT CUTE! and at alot of yalls big age, it's kind of embarrassing and pathetic.
i'm 25 and i am into a character that has at least two canon love interests and one that pined after someone. i'm not going to lie and say that that doesn't bother me on a mild jealousy level- i am saying this to put out there that i am NOT shaming any adult for having crushes on their faves and getting a little put off by them having CANON RIs.
I'm not and anyone that knows me would know that. (just wanted to say so in case this reaches anyone that doesn't)
what i AM shaming though is when yall are childish about it and go after these CANON RIs and rip them to shreds because let's face it, it's not you. at this point it has nothing to do with the characters not having enough character development, not having enough time with the character to make it make sense, not having a likeable personality or whatever bullshit yall have used as excuses to rip these typically female characters apart for having a CANON relationship with your faves and i'm tired of being nice about it.
yall sat there and HYPED YUKI UP when she was just an awkward girl that might or might not have had a lil crush on someone- which so many people decided to ignore and box her into the sibling category, just like the rest of the hostesses when it's obvious they all fell for him. and yall like to go 'oh lol those things aren't canon' because it's not in the main story- BITCH IF THE ORIGINAL WRITERS WROTE IT IT'S MOTHERFUCKING CANON! but let a substory or something come up that feeds into whatever fucking idea you've been feeding yourself yall will shout from the roof tops how it's canon and no one can take it from you.. i'm not gonna take it from you, but at some point, i hope you realize how hypocritical you sound.
yall sat there and hyped yuki up FOR YEAAAAAARS and the second she gets casted as kiryu's love interest you wanna bring out the torches and burn her at the stake??? it was never about the character, it's always been about you. and your jealousy that you're too emotionally immature to realize is JUST jealousy and you make it every fucking female character with romantic ties to every fave you've ever had's problem. i mean think about it, if you can sit here and smash characters together that have never so much as stood in the same room as the other, is it really about canon chemistry? it's not and you know it's not and you should learn how to reevaluate your relationship with these characters before you CONTINUE to make a fool of yourself because it's pathetic and i no longer have the patience to rationalize what you 'really mean' anymore.
something i want yall to remember when yall get mad at these girls for being there instead your selfship oc or another character you are clearly attracted to, at the end of the day, that's HER man. and YOU are stepping in where you dont belong. not her.
grow the fuck up.
and where i stand on this personally? oryo and ryouma are a cute ass couple and it's the ONE time we get to see kiryu end up with someone and be HAPPY about it! oryo and ryouma had a whole year of history together before you even saw them and when you did see them, they had something!! they had plot! you even got to spend time with her unlike other LIs. WHY NOT BE HAPPY FOR YOUR FAVE???? and if oryo existing bothers you soooo much, dont make it her fucking problem. write an oc and ship him with them but dont spend 12 pages bitching about why oryo wasn't good enough for him as a RI.

you know i often see people throwing around the claim "joker r*ped/sa'd barbara in tkj" (mainly to shame people for liking the joker or batjokes) even though alan moore has dedunked it at some point. like the only piece of media i can think of with joker as a rapist is the azzarello graphic novel which is shit and doesn't need to be accepted as canon. i know it's kinda of a touchy subject but i'd be interested to hear your thoughts
Well. You've pretty much said it, to be honest.
Even a cursory Google search will reveal that Azzarello's Joker (2008) is a one-off, non-canon story. The just as much stand-alone sequel, Batman: Damned has a grieving Harley Quinn almost force herself on Bruce, and yet I haven't heard people say Harley is a rapist. Hell, didn't Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) have Harley and Nightwing sleep together... with pretty dubious consent on Dick's side? And yet fans are able to acknowledge that these are not canon storylines and that the writer matters a lot-- in the case of the latter, it's co-written by Bruce Timm, who is infamous for his shitty portrayal of female characters (also see the animation Batman: The Killing Joke, in which Barbara very assertively has sex with Batman, because that's of course the only way a woman can exercise power). Actually, Barbara's character has suffered so much... there's even Batman Beyond 2.0 #28, in which Bruce apparently got Barbara pregnant, Dick's girlfriend at the time.
But we all dismiss these storytelling choices because we know they're idiotic. They go against the core of the characters, simple as that. Why is Joker not allowed the same? While what he canonically did to Barbara in TKJ was horrible, rape did not happen, and that's a fact. Any other implications of sexual assault can only be connected to Frank Miller's writing in the TDKR series (not canon), or that horrible (and again, not canon) book adaptation of TKJ by Christa Faust and Gary Phillips. Unfortunately, there are always some writers who think that it's just darker and grittier and cooler, more shocking to have Joker attempt rape or resort to sexual means of intimidation; though it's funny how it happens that these are also generally controversial writers for their sexist depictions of women.
But we do know why Joker is not afforded the same kind of treatment as other characters who got butchered by out-of-character stories, canon or otherwise. He's become the punching bag of the DC fandom; it's so easy to proclaim loud and proud these days how much you hate the Joker and want him dead. If you're an anti and looking to feel morally righteous and signal to your echo chamber how good and pure you are, it's a low hanging fruit to latch onto Joker and criticize him for all he's done. The problem, of course, is when these people start attacking actual, real-life fans over their fictional preferences, shipping or otherwise.
But to give a more general conclusion, and my actual opinion on the matter: Joker is a master manipulator. His main schtick is literally getting Batman to kill him by orchestrating all manner of situations; he manipulates his doctors, his henchmen, he manipulates Gotham itself through the media on countless occasions. The very reason why he did what he did to Barbara in TKJ was to manipulate her father into having a mental breakdown. Joker picks people to break and then breaks them psychologically, that is his MO. What he wants is to expose the people around him, he wants to show that deep down, everyone is rotten.
It probably becomes obvious why rape is inconsistent with this mindset. Joker isn't the kind of monster to make things happen by brute force, he's the kind of monster to manipulate people into the worst versions of themselves and then laugh at them as they hate themselves for it. He'll murder and torture and imply any manner of atrocity to make that happen, but the source of his glee is seeing people fall into the same dark pit, devoid of humanity, he's chosen to live in. (And don't even get me started on the fact that Joker was canonically shown to have been a victim of sexual assault himself as a child, in Batman: Streets of Gotham. As an adult, he's depicted as gruesomely taking revenge on the man who did it. Something tells me there's more than one reason why Joker would not resort to rape, and it goes beyond MOs or agendas.)

together pt.1/?
ship: river (all souls) x gender neutral reader
warnings: vague mentions of drug dealing bc of canon i suppose
summary: river has some financial troubles. you want to help.
word count: 800+
Tumblr media
You're resting on River's worn-out sofa bed, like you do whenever you come over. River's place is a single bedroom and her baby comes first - Jade is already sleeping soundly in the bedroom. And you can ignore the springs digging into your back if it means River's laying beside you every night.
But right now, she's busy. River is counting crumpled bills at her dining table, sitting on a metal folding chair that's always been uncomfortable. A little from the dealings she runs, a little more for helping the cops, and the shitty tips from her diner job.
Her being a police informant is too dangerous for your liking. Especially with how it wraps River up in Silas's world again. River agreed with you every time you two talked about it but, in her words, what the hell can she do? She needs the money to keep the lights on, to keep her girl fed, needs Jade to be able to stay miles away from the shitshow that is her life. And, River added, the more she helps the police the closer that scum gets off the streets.
"Damn," River whispers to herself as she counts the final bill. "Barely enough to keep the lights on." But you hear her, and you can see that wrinkle between her brows. She's stressed - mind already whirring about how to make her paycheck stretch for the week. Your girl takes on way too much by herself.
"Hey," you say. You get up from the sofa and make your way over to her, sliding an arm across River's shoulders.
"Mm," she murmurs back in acknowledgement. River lifts her head up so that your lips graze against the tattoo on her neck. "Sorry, it's just-" she sighs, "a lot. But I'll figure something out. I always do."
"No, no. I'll pitch in." You don't say it like an offer, knowing that River's pride would make her refuse, but as a statement. You'd take care of her. You'd take care of them both if she let you.
River has been independent since she was a kid, practically, so young when she had Jade. She had dropped out and had taken whatever jobs she could, and after her mom passed River has been doing it virtually alone. Learning that it's alright to depend on you has been a struggle for her.
River pauses. "You sure?" You've offered before, and River always turned it down. It's your money, she'd tell you. The fact that she doesn't refuse immediately tells you that she's more comfortable relying on you already. It warms your heart.
The answer's easy. You don't hesitate to say "of course", leaning down to kiss her again.
It's slow and a little sweet, the tang from the Monster she just downed hitting your lips. Your tongue darts out to lick it away and River makes this cute little noise at the back of her throat. The pressure of River's kiss is like a soothing balm. When she pulls away, though, you can see that the money problems are still on her mind.
Leaning her head on your shoulder, she sets down the bills she was tallying and rubs her tired eyes. It's a mix of emotions. Gratitude for the roof over their heads, frustration at the unending struggle to make ends meet. And above all, River has determination to provide a better life for her daughter. She knows accepting this offer would be for the best. And she trusts you.
"Alright. But I don't really know what to let you help with," River admits. She already has enough, if barely, to cover the bills. With a little more pocket change from you, she could actually have some savings for a rainy day. You two wouldn't have to sleep every night on a sofa she found off the side of the road.
"I dunno. Anything," you say.
River looks over her apartment as if seeing it for the first time. The coffee table has cigarette burns and crayon scribbles. Toys are strewn all over the floor but the walls are empty, save for Jade's drawings. The cabinets never close properly. There's only two chairs at the dining table. That was enough for when it was just the two of them, but with you around... maybe River can dream of sharing meals together as a family. You'd stick around for breakfast instead of slipping out before Jade wakes up.
"You think we can get a little something to make the place more homey?" she asks. "I think I'd like that."
You grip her tighter, whispering promises against River's skin. Dreaming for more is hard in a world like this. But you hope against hope that you being around will make River see that it's alright. That dreams can come true.
You hold her close, surrounded by the faint scent of her perfume and the quiet hum of the city outside. "I'd love to. We'll make it happen," you whisper. You'll make anywhere home as long as you're by each other's sides. "Together."
pt. 2 is here!

Z*kka is a very good example I like to use when I talk about how trend, timing and tropes effect fandoms that you don't see happen in older fandoms
The ATLA renaissance happened during the same time the Voltron trainwreck happened. At the same time, certain tropes like opposites attract, blue/red gays etc are insanely popular. Almost every big thing falls into this easy category of who fits who in their incorrect quotes or popular tropes and ship dynamic.
And Z*kka fits the bill. Silly/Serious? Check. Conventionally attractive guys? Check. Blue/Red? Check. On paper, they sound like any other popular ships that technically speaking would make at least a decent ship.
Except they don't. Because they're from a 3 seasons show where they canonically don't have that much meaningful interaction, barely any acknowledgement of each other, and they just don't have chemistry. They DON'T. Just because they LOOK like they fit on the surface level doesn't mean they actually do. Sometimes opposites don't attract. Sometimes the characters who fall easily into a ship dynamic aren't actually compatible.
The ship is solid proof that modern fandoms these days prioritize surface level things over what canon actually gives them. I UNDERSTAND why some people like z*kka, but it DOES NOT deserve the level of popularity it receives! And the fact it became one of the most popular ships in ATLA because the voltron fans project kl*nce into the ship is IMO disheartening. They already choose what they wish to see instead of appreciating what these characters got and who they actually connect with in canon.
I know I sound pretentious, but I really can't stand these kinds of fans because of how much they REFUSE to engage in canon. Tropes are nice. Having preferences is not a crime. But actively forcing your own vision into canon just because they fit your tastes in the most shallow way possible is just sad. Why bother engage in any new media then? Why not actually pick up something that actively fits your taste?
You said it all, Anon!
I seriously had no idea where Zukka even came from until recently.
It wasn't a thing when the show was airing and then suddenly it just exploded out of nowhere. I was so baffled. I was like "why this?" Of all the slash ships people could have latched onto. Jetko is right there. Hell, even Zukaang and Sokka/Aang make way more sense.
You're so right, people just base everything off """vibes""" or aesthetics, or just jump on the bandwagon when a ship/headcanon gets popular without giving it any real thought. And because Zukka is just a copy+paste version of Klance, they just wind up wildly ooc and it's like they're two entirely different characters. I have to ask myself if these people even like Zuko or Sokka independently...
And for the record, I don't think you sound shallow at all. The enforcement of popular headcanons as canon is a problem in all fandoms, but it's especially bad in this one.
If it sounds like I'm pointing the finger solely at Zukka shippers, I'm not. Zutara shippers are just as bad, if not worse. As are those who shove the idea of lesbian Azula down everyone's throats.
It's just fucking exhausting.
Ship whatever you want. Headcanon whatever you want. Just stop torturing all of us with it.

I hate how people defend Star without thinking much, just because she’s the main protagonist doesn’t mean she’s flawless and innocent.
listen, i love star vs, but it's a hot mess, i'm critical about it so much because i know it had the potential to be REALLY good and the crew fell off the wagon HARD.
it should say a lot that me, a fan, doesn't want a continuation of the show in the future, the ending is just THAT bad to me. It's so bad i feel there's nothing much to look forward to in a future spinoff continuing this canon.
and i want desperately to say this show was fantastic all the way through, but it's not a show you can rewatch because of what you know is going to happen to the plot points, characters, ect ect
i stick to aus for a reason.
and look, toh isn't perfect either, i have pointed out some aspects in it that feel contradictory or not as explained or not handled as great as it could of been.
But toh, even tho it's not flawless and has these issues, is still watchable and still mostly enjoyable all the way through. I feel i can at least trust the crew of toh, to have some idea what they're doing as far as arcs and story, even if it's not perfect 100%.
It's not like with star where you'll have an episode about how "Oh, marco and kelly are thinking about being a thing and marco wants to move on from star cause he actually likes kelly and he feels he needs to move on".
And then like several eps later they break up offscreen, between episodes, for no real reason and it never gets acknowledged again as marco goes back to liking star and that possible character development goes out the window.
Star vs had so many issues it renders the show impossible to rewatch, that's how much of these problems caused it to collapse on itself.
people really REALLY push to defend the finale, but if you have to ignore established canon and/or defend genocide of beings in an anti genocide show to tell me why this is all ok, i think you're already on a bad foot.
and i could go on and on about everything wrong with this but let's keep this simple when it comes to Star herself. Star is a flawed character, which is fine, she should be, but it got to a point where her flaws stopped becoming things she needs to overcome and just aspects the team either didn't see as problems, or just ignored.
and this is the team who brought us Tom and Eclipsa, two flawed characters who make mistakes, but apologize, are sympathetic, are beloved for a reason.
Star, and marco for that matter, stop being likable people because their flaws are never properly fixed by the end.
One of the main flaws being they constantly put each other over everyone else, to a point it comes off unhealthy and makes them seem unlikable and selfish.
marco and star abandoning everyone by jumping back in the well? Never thinking about the weight of destroying magic to the multiverse outside of their own selfish desires? Star's entire treatment of her own boyfriend? Going off to have a love confession as people are dying in a war outside? and so, so much more,
It really feels looking back, starco made them worse as people, not better.
And i think the crew wanted us to come out thinking the complete opposite without realizing or ignoring the fact that the ship was bringing out some of their worst traits and by not acknowledging it, it made things worse.
Because acknowledging it makes the ship look bad, and the team doesn't like doing that. Star might of been the main character of the show, but she came out of it being very hard to like, all because the team wanted to push their own biases and ideas without considering other aspects of the series and how bad it made star look as a person.
it's sad man, there was so much potential for her to have a good arc here.
When you want to write a main lead and you take inspiration from this show, have a character more like Tom and Eclipsa, not like Star.

Any favorite Sherlock and Molly moments?
Hello hello! SO MANY OMG! I love them so much, they have so many fabulous moments.
I immediately think of their entire stint solving cases together in The Empty Hearse, because they were amazing, but I'll pick out a few specific moments from there.
There's a moment where they're interviewing clients and Molly asks if she should take notes, since John does and Sherlock says "You're not being John, you're being yourself." and she smiles, and it is the most pure thing. Like yes, in a way, Sherlock is trying to replace John with Molly in this moment because with John, he got used to having a partner, a friend, someone with him. But he also acknowledges that Molly is her own person and brings her own skills and abilities to the table, and works differently from John. And that's quite big, since we all know that Sherlock has had to work on learning how to treat/interact with people and that John has helped him do that.
Another moment from the same episode is when they have a little sarcastic exchange when they're with the client who loves trains. I mean, Sherlock's smirk alone...
Tumblr media
And the last one from this particular episode is the scene in the hallway where Sherlock thanks Molly for her help and says the iconic line "Because the one person he thought didn't matter to me at all, was the one person who mattered the most." And when he says that my heart melts, the soft look in his eyes and on his face. And the cheek kiss! Aaaahhhh!!!!! They make me insane.
Tumblr media
Another favourite moment has to be the Christmas scene in A Scandal in Belgravia. Just everything about it - Molly's STUNNING outfit, Sherlock actually apologising when he realises he's a) hurt Molly's feelings and b) made light of her feelings for him which he's played on one too many times, the kiss on the cheek...it's the moment I began to ship them when I first watched the show. It's just an absolutely lovely moment between them, and it also shows how much Sherlock's grown. He apologises unprompted and it's clear it's because he CARES about Molly - he still acts asshole-ish with John's girlfriend, someone he doesn't really know, but is immediately remorseful when he hurts Molly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, the ICONIC 'I love you scene' between the two of them in The Final Problem had to be on here too, because I love it - my Sherlolly heart burst when it happened! Like, he says it the first time so that Molly will say it and won't die, but he says it a second time, and his voice that second time...it's real. He says it once, playing along to try and save Molly's life but the second time...oh the second time is a realisation. Sherlock does actually love her. Now of course, you can read that as platonic or romantic (I like both since I ship both Sherlolly and Johnlock), but Sherlock does love her. And that scene was just expertly filmed and scripted. (Also, why wasn't Molly having a good day, what had happened?? Someone give her a hug!!)
Tumblr media
Now for two smaller moments - I adore them when they are at Rosie's christening! The way Molly is clearly comfortable enough around Sherlock to tell him off for using his phone and is stood beside him so confidently, and also she looks stunning!
The second one is in The Reichenbach Fall when Sherlock asks for Molly's help. She asks what he needs and he says "You." I died.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could put so many more, but I'll finish with this one - the kiss from The Empty Hearse. Now, I know that it was a scene from one of Anderson's theories, but it's fucking canon in my mind so I don't care! It's very badass and sexy and exactly what my Sherlolly heart wanted and deserved!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right, I'll stop now! Do you have any favourites? Let me know!

Do you have some sebchal recs? I try to look on ao3 but I barely find any, so I imagine most of their fics are more old
Hello! ❤️
Interestingly, I find myself having the opposite problem. I feel like the fandom - and, by extension, the interest in Seb/Charles as a ship - has grown exponentially since 2020. I think there's like forty pages of published works on ao3 right now. Which might not seem like a lot, especially when compared to other juggernaut ships or fandoms, but considering the fact that there were maybe 3 when I first looked up the tag... 😳 Anyway, over time I've kind of figured out what I like and what I don't like in relation to the ship, so these days I tend to be more selective and pick through to find what really speaks to me, what really knocks my socks off, if that makes sense. 😂 We all have different tastes, both as readers and authors, so different people will gravitate toward different things. Not everything scratches the itch, basically. TL;DR: it really depends on what you're looking for and what you like. 👀
That being said, here are some of the fics that made an impression/that I find myself coming back to:
Canon/Canon Adjacent (aka still set somewhere in the realm of F1):
postcards from places that miss you by streetlightsky T | 15,108 words ↳ Seb wanted to leave quietly. That was the one thing he had asked above all else. Or, the one where Seb retires, but Charles refuses to let him disappear. -> I honestly recommend pretty much anything by this author ⭐ immortality on their faces, night at their back by wintrs E | 16,147 words ↳ Sebastian had always wondered about Charles—but maybe he’d known the truth all along, and he’d just never let himself acknowledge it. no flowers, no flashbulbs by superoxide E | 10,736 words ↳ Sebastian frowns, without thinking. They’d both ridiculed the idea of some kind of staged paparazzi friendliness when it had come up. He wonders what has turned Charles around on the idea so suddenly. (Charles has a plan to improve their image; Sebastian is less convinced.) see you falling by redpaint E | 3,653 words ↳ “I can’t— There are no words. No words. I just need to get this out of my head, okay? Before you go.” -> I honestly recommend pretty much anything by this author, especially the 'conflict resolution' series for that 2019 feel⭐ those who miss each other by sionisjaune E | 8,401 words ↳ Charles’s phone is burning a hole in his pocket. This is something he should be filming, but he doesn’t want to. He thinks he shouldn’t, for some reason. He thinks he can keep this encounter for himself. + bonus: (yes I'm sharing my own fic shhhh) been a long year by ssilverarrowss M | 7,123 words ↳ The days stubbornly march forward. Sometimes it feels agonisingly slow, and sometimes it feels like everything is moving too quickly, like Charles is going to blink and all the time he’s spent with Sebastian will be in the rearview, gone forever.
Alternate Universe:
scenes from an american artist by tetrapod M | 9,389 words ↳ Excerpt from an interview with Charles Leclerc. August 1974. Q: How did it all end? CL: The way all relationships end, I suppose. Inevitably. flesh of my flesh by charlotte_stant E | 4,749 words ↳ Sebastian, still smiling, tilts his head and looks at Charles speculatively. “Can I take you for a drive, Father?" he asks. "To continue our conversation. I find myself in need of… spiritual direction.” Charles ought to say no, but he doesn’t even consider it, not really. Sometimes falling is like that: as easy as opening your mouth and saying “Yes.” the language of another world by redpaint G | 2,568 words ↳ Charles is sent down from Oxford (drunkenness, absenteeism, behavior unbecoming of a Balliol man) and becomes the research assistant to a botanist who is doing fieldwork in the Shetland Islands. and VASI to guide you in by anonymous T | 1,375 words ↳ Nobody at the tiny Aeroporto di Maranello Enzo Ferrari can figure out why and how the runway lights manage to stay on through the night—long after curfew and long after the last worker has left the premises, taking the main ops key with them. However, newly promoted Captain Charles Leclerc of floundering charter airline Ferrari Air knows the answer to that question. He just won’t tell it to anyone. Ever. the tools to rebuild by astronomical_light T | 22,645 words ↳ After months of stagnating in his recovery following a high-speed crash, Charles gets referred to a specialist clinic tucked away in the Swiss mountainside that feels as much like a high-end wellness retreat as it does a physical rehabilitation program. He doesn’t have many expectations going into it, but he knows one thing for sure—he definitely wasn’t expecting Sebastian.
Seb/Charles feat. other pairings:
stringe il cuore della stella morente by partywitharichzombie E | 14,634 words ↳ The announcement is almost poetic in its sweet simplicity: a photo of Daniel, aged three, the cavallino rampante a stark contrast against the white of his oversized t-shirt, radiant grin as disarming then as it is now. No caption. None necessary. (Daniel signs with Ferrari for 2021 and beyond. He hopes he and Charles can avoid ending up in a scenario of assured mutual destruction.) high speed weekend survivor by babypapaya T | 18,608 words ↳ Formula Student is a student engineering competition held annually in the UK. Student teams from around the world design, build, test, and race a small-scale formula style racing car. (in) clover by tetrapod T | 5,895 words ↳ “I was thinking we could take the boat out,” Charles said. spacetime invariants by distressedgremlin M | 6,615 words ↳ Lewis arrived midway through the season of dust storms. Sebastian met him on a shabby starport that barely clung to the atmosphere of a frozen-over planet, the only one within forty light-days’ distance that the dust did not reach.

Gwyn and Lucien aside, I’m really surprised anyone still ships A + E after that bonus chapter (to each their own, I guess). We get the info from Az himself - they don’t talk. All they’ve done is share a few looks and brush fingers. He’s never thought of anything other than having sex with her. That’s it. And literally nothing was standing in their way for, what? 2 years?
Az lusting after her is NOT and has never been the issue. It’s the fact that he can’t say anything of substance about her, especially when we compare his chapter with Nessian’s bonus chapter.
I think people are still be hanging on that ship because any other author would have made them endgame. No banter, flat personalities when they’re together and (in my opinion) 0 chemistry (physically looking good together doesn’t count). All they have going on is an extreme light/extreme dark aesthetic. That’s all some authors know how to write.
It’s also VERY funny how Az’s chapter (or the second half of the chapter 💀 ) is the only bonus chapter that’s apparently NOT canon. I had no idea SJM was writing fanfiction of her own books.
I guess we all have different ideas on what we find romantic and what our ideal fictional romance looks like.
But when I look at SJMs writing, I have to agree. How can anyone find Azriel's thoughts about Elain romantic, knowing what SJM thinks is romantic? Sexy? Sure. Lust can stand on it's own in some cases.
But he doesn't give her credit for ANYTHING in the bonus chapter. He doesn't show any sort of respect for her. He doesn't acknowledge anything that makes her special. He focuses on not getting a bond rather than wanting to be with her because he has actual feelings for her.
Saying, "What if the Cauldron was wrong?" because his brothers were given two of the sisters so why wasn't he given the third is problematic when a real declaration of love would look something like, "I don't care that Elain was made mates with Lucien, what I feel for her means more than what fate decided".
And you're right, nothing was standing in their way then and nothing is standing in their way now (not even Rhys) if they really wanted to be together. All it takes is sitting down with Lucien and then sitting down with their friends and explaining why they want to be together.
That is honestly as complicated as it gets.
The fact that some feel Elain and Az instead need to sneak around like children in order to be together seems strange when the other option is them just being ADULTS about it and having actual conversations with others to explain what they want. That right there puts a stop to Rhys's concerns, Lucien wondering if Elain still might want to get to know him, Cassian wondering if Az is now fully over Mor.
To me, it really doesn't matter that SJM included mate language for Gwynriel at the end because even if they are mates, that doesn't mean they HAVE to end up together.
To me the biggest thing I took away from that bonus chapter is that Az did not make comments about how far Elain has come since being made, he did not give her credit for her part in the war or saving not only himself but Cassian and Nesta, and he didn't think anything about her humor, how she made him feel, etc. You know who he thought those things about though? Gwyn. This female he's only just getting to know, he acknowledges how far she's come since Sangravah, he notes her charming irreverence, he shows admiration for her form while cutting the ribbon.
He is looking at Gwyn as a person and noting what is unique about her separate from himself where Elain is simply an extension of the problems he has with himself. That he didn't get a bond with a sister like his brothers, that she's too pure for his tainted self, that she's too innocent for his darkness, etc.
That is a trope, I get it. Where the bad man ends up with the one bit of shining light in his dark world, being the one thing that absolves him from all the bad he's done. But that has not and has never been SJMs style and I'd be shocked if she changed her preferences now.

1, 4, 6 and 14 for takizawa!
Tysm for this, this entire reply is going to pretty much just be Takizawa because he is my poor little meow meow!
1. (Hands you a free card to ramble about whatever for your favorite character/ship)
Toss up between hidekane and seiakimon but I’m gonna go with seiakimon bc there are So Many Thoughts with these three. Akira and her two ghoul boyfriends
Obviously Takizawa need So Much Therapy before any romance stuff can happen so we’re gonna assume he’s been getting the help he needs for this (and so have Akira and Amon honestly, they’re not completely insane but they’ve got problems too).
SEIAKIMON COULD HAVE BEEN SO SO GOOD.
Taki was the only one who truly saw Akira as Akira. People in the academy chalked up her success to the fact that both her parents were investigators and didn’t acknowledge the work she herself put in. Everyone saw her as a product of her parents except Takizawa. He competed with her, not her parents and that’s why Akira liked him. He saw her as a bitch because he was jealous of her natural talent and how she often got more opportunities than him in the CCG, she got to go on missions while he was stuck in the office even though they were equally talented. And don’t even get me started on them only ever seeing each other from the side and the first time they truly look straight at each other is when Akira throws away her life career to protect Taki and lays her heart bare to him, telling him about how she tried to live up to everyone’s expectations but failed and how she never stopped thinking about him, wondering if she had just stopped him at the Owl Execution Operation. That shit hurted.
Of course we’ve also got the canon Akira and Amon, they work alright but need some more development. I really think Ishida has no clue how to write romance, every single one just comes out of left field, most prominently Yoriko and Takeomi. “Hey, haven’t seen you in a long time, nice to see you again. Anyway, you make good bread, wanna get married?” ????????
And with the right development, Amon and Taki would work well too. Amon’s closeted bi ass learning that it’s okay to be queer (thanks Donato for instilling religious trauma into this himbo /s).
In conclusion: Akira has two hands.
4. What character do you (the asker) remind me of?
I don’t really know why but Mutsuki kinda! No idea what my brain is doing at any moment in time
6. What’s your favorite piece of TG fan content you’ve made?
Hmm, I haven’t made much recently do NOT ask about my 2015 era art lmfao but I’d have to say this meme, it just fits the dude so well lmao
Tumblr media
He's a little silly.
14. Song you associate with (character/ship)
Oh dear here we go.
So Mother Mother makes some AMAZING songs and I could write an essay on how every song in Oh My <3 fits him, but besides that, I think Control by Halsey fits Takizawa quite well!
“They send me away to find them a fortune” getting sent to fight and kill the Owl
“I sat alone, in bed till the morning I'm crying, "They're coming for me"” being scared outta his wits and writing “I DON’T WANT TO DIE” on his will
“I paced around for hours on empty I jumped at the slightest of sounds” post Kano trauma
“I'm well acquainted with villains that live in my head” listening and giving into his ghoul side
“And all the kids cried out, "Please stop, you're scaring me" I can't help this awful energy God damn right, you should be scared of me Who is in control?” Taking control over his own life and becoming a terrifying monster of a ghoul and killing Tatara while his former coworkers watch on in fear.
Gasoline works really well too!

Drama and discourse ig so be warned because I’m not holding back w this rant:
I don’t think people realize how bad this fandom has become.
It’s always had issues, most fandoms do, the shipping wars and drama and all that crap.
But that’s fandom stuff, and now the drama is less fandom based, I think it's a lot based on the person and the content and excluding based on that.
So let’s face the facts:
Unless you draw or write nsfw, you’re ignored
If you like canon ships or rarepairs (ones that are actually rare, a lot of rarepairs aren’t rare anymore because everyone likes them), you’re ignored
If you’re under 18, you’re ignored
Nobody gives a shit what you think if you’re any of these.
Now I'm all for people of every age liking fandom, but let's be real, it's hard as hell to be a minor here. All the overly sexual stuff, all the infantalization and condescendation, all of everything.
It's a problem. Nobody will deal with it but I don't even know how.
Not only age being discriminated against, but look at how many kudos all the nsfw fics get compared to the sfw ones. Write smut, idc, but it's completely unfair for people to get their writing ignored just because it doesn't have characters having intercourse.
I know it's a very sexually positive and charged musical, but it's a musical about dancing trains. You shouldn't only be interested because you want to think about them banging.
And then there's the shipping crap. If you don't like some of the more popular ships, you're disregarded. The same with Canon ships, you'll be ignored for liking them. I understand that sometimes they're not as interesting as more unique ships, but they're still ships that people are passionate about, so respect that for Pete's sake.
It's like that with "problematic" ships as well. I think that as long as you acknowledge they would be toxic in reality, or there's character development, it's fine. More people need that view.
I don't want to be that person but stuff was good before. I don't know what changed (new people coming? The update show? Who knows?), but crap has gone downhill.
I'm sure I'll get blocked and/or harrased for all this but it has to be said.

It makes sense to look at it that way. Cleriths act like they dont recognize Cloti, but they KNOW its romantic. They copy everything Cloti does even with Clerith mods. They wouldnt do that if they didnt know and just lie
This is about this post, right?
It's everyone, really.
Because of course, if someone is making a claim that is untrue, you'll try to prove that. If you think it's not about "truth" as much as it is, what's the most supported answer to go with, again, you'll try to prove that too.
"Who" or "What" determines that of which is correct, incorrect, logical, illogical, etc—the evidence and reasoning will show itself at that point, and someone's capability to come to terms with whatever it is will be on their own merit. That's how it's always worked, and how it'll always be with individuality.
A truth can feel weightless in the face of someone who refuses to accept it—you just have to settle what it feels like for you, more than anything. But, also have the capability to even present it in a way that makes sense if you really care about it being a truth.
People say some really ridiculous things, but others will agree with them still. You can say they're wrong, but everyone's got to present their logic and establish their ultimate point. We faff about with other things, like personal attacks instead of just laying down ways to be understood, whether you can be proven to be wrong or right.
I've personally just seen a lot of inconsistent logic or personal agenda.
I mean, there IS romanticism used for both Clerith and Cloti, the base entity of it's existence in their storytelling, absolutely—the concept of romance and writing makes this very clear. But you have to understand what that means as it is. Recognizing this solely does not yet come with discerning a relationship, if something is "endgame", or whatever thing someone simply wants to USE this existing information for. It's an observation of fact, an existing connotation, tone, element, etc. Romance/Sexual tone is a very specific thing, and can be used positively/negatively/neutral [at a given time]. What it's purpose is for, how it affects the characters—all that is AFTER you are able to identify the element in the first place.
The problem is, a lot of groups want to jump the gun and focus solely on who is in love with who, or who will be given the story perception of being together at the end. And, they try SO hard to acknowledge the usage of romanticism because they believe it has to equate to those two things, when it doesn't.
If you want to believe Clerith is canon, you don't need to have the personal agenda to deny the romantic elements of the train roll to make yourself feel better and purposely not absorb direct, literal information regarding Clod . Similarly, if you're a Cloti, you don't need to try to denounce Cloud and Aerith's relationship at every turn and deny what otherwise is also very reliable romanticism used between them. You shouldn't be afraid of the existence of the tone for a ship you don't like—to the point it makes YOU fallacious or create inconsistent, illogical statements.
Simply recognizing the tonality shouldn't be a problem—it's writing. It's a story. Where it's written and implemented happens because someone decided to do so. Failing to recognize it when it's applicable taints what otherwise would be the next step of reasoning that needs to be had, and chances are it'll be virtually inconsistent with something else that just so happens to benefit your point of view.
Situationally, two people can fall onto each other, and help each other up platonically—but reasonably, historically, not in the exact way it was crafted for the train scene. Same vein, you can have someone showing up in a fancy outfit, having another person(s) react to them and their appearance platonically—but reasonably, historically, not in the exact way it was crafted for the red dress scene.
Literally replace their character models in either scene with two siblings—you're going to have a problem.
But I digress, the tones were used—that's your first acknowledgement. Anything else, like a character suddenly, whiplashingly falling in love with someone at the exact moment is another thread of understanding and conversation. But the first acknowledgement should still happen.

Hello I saw a post you made about you hating sans and saw that you shipped Fran’s before. No hate but yea, Frisk is a child because they are apart of the fallen children. Frisk is also their own character because at the end of the pacifist, they reveal their real name, Frisk, and Flowey even asks you to let Frisk live their life once you complete it. Also, Frisk is controlled by the player like Kris is in deltarune and if you played, Kris is a child who’s adopted by toriel and can rip out their soul whenever they want control of their body. So just like Kris, this happens to frisk who is not a self insert but their own character. Also, Toby has never once called Frisk him or her. He always refers Frisk as they/them.
Okay. This is certainly more like the evidence I was looking for, but I suppose that I meant that Frisk was a self-insert in a similar way to how all silent protagonists are self-insert.
You see, silent protagonists are silent to make it easier for the player to insert themselves into the protag's place. The whole point is for immersion. Now, I'll concede that Frisk is probably a child in canon because you're actually going through the effort to not be rude about it.
Now, if Fox really did design Frisk & Kris & Chara to be non-binary, specifically, & they aren't referred to that way as some sort of next-level immersion idea, then fine, sure. I'm all for it.
At the same time, even if you are right, that won't stop anyone from deciding they'd rather have a boy Frisk or a girl Frisk or a trans Frisk or an intersex Frisk because that's just what fandoms do.
It doesn't stop them from doing it with other characters from other franchises & it won't stop them from doing it to Frisk here.
Why? Because these characters aren't real. Never were & never will be. They are malleable.
Now, I agree to a certain extent. If something is canon, then you should acknowledge it as such. Hartman & J.K. Rowling say their characters aren't trans, so, canonically, they're not & I don't like it when people say that they are as if it were canon.
Because it's one thing to headcanon something, it's another to disregard the creator's intent in favor of your own wants & beliefs & push them as canon. That's disrespectful & it shouldn't happen.
However, in fanon, everything is free real estate. You can do whatever you want so long as you say it's just your headcanon.
As for aging characters up. People age, unless you're saying that characters should always stay the age they were in the source material as unageing dolls even inside fanfiction? If so, then there better be a good explanation as to why.
Not to mention, monsters I bet, age very slowly.
Listen, I'm not advocating for freaking toddlers to date full-grown men. The hell kinda shit is that?!
Nor am I okay with grooming. It's part of why I'm Not Okay(TM) with SessRin. She's literally still 14 when she gives birth in the Yashahime series! No! Yuck! Absolutely not!
If the storywriters had instead waited till she was 18 & they hadn't seen each other in a few years, then sure. Fine. I'd still feel a bit squicky because I always saw them as father/daughter, but that's a me problem.
All I'm saying is, time is a thing & if you want to make believable stories, you include it. Time does this magical thing called aging people. Some like it, some hate it, but it happens regardless.
Also, what about characters that fans create to replace Frisk? Or when a fan makes it so Frisk was an adult from the very beginning? In such a situation, Frisk might as well be a different character that's just using the name 'Frisk.'
I'm just saying. Don't try to limit the fandom's creativity. Some truly amazing stories & aus have come out because fans were able to personalize Frisk as a character they could use. And those stories wouldn't have been as good or had the same plot points if they conformed strictly to canon.
Also, even if Frisk is nb, all that is is pronouns, which are subjective by nature of design according to the current woke culture of today. Despite what some might want you to think, nbs do still conform to a binary, just not a gender binary. It's the biological sex binary.
You see, gender is a social construct & is therefore malleable according to some. However, if that is the case, then sex is a biological construct & is thusly concrete & can’t be changed regardless of gender identity or transaction due to it literally being written in your chromosomes. It is something you develop even before birth & when you die, hundreds of years from now, when people dig your bones up, guess what, they’re gonna look at those bones & analyze what dna is left & you’ll still be the sex you were born as.
As such, you can be nb & also be female or male because that's how human, & mammalian biology in-general, works.
Thing is, because Fox is so consistent with making Frisk, Chara, & Kris all theys, we have zero clue as to their canon biological sexes if he even gave them any (unless they're literally just supposed to be living mannequins under there) & that allows fans the freedom of choosing their sex & still have nb gender pronouns. So, that doesn't go against canon at all.

Every danganronpa ship that you ship
damn you're gonna make me go back in time huh. okay. the problem with all of these is i try not to think about dangan ronpa lately lmao cause I don't like who I was back then even if I still have some affection for the series. also because ship is a vague word i've limited it to "dynamics i would/have consumed/made content for"
DR1:
Naegiri: the original ship i had. dr3 truly made everything more complicated you hate to see it.
Tumblr media
Kirihina: this one came about out of spite in dr3.
Tumblr media
sakuraoi: these bitches gay good for them
Tumblr media
SDR2:
komahina: honestly probably still my one true love in this fandom. good for them. also they got a bingo how iconic. also by friends with benefits i actually mean like. "rivalry ust something might have happened in a closet neither is ready to unpack yet" dynamic. especially in post canon scenarios lmao.
Tumblr media
kuzupeko: look man i don't know what to say other than i thought sdr2 chapter 2 slapped. didn't everyone. what do you want from me.
Tumblr media
kuzusouda: okay all i will say about this one is that i shipped this WELL before dr3 happened if you kNOW about my old ask blog you KNOW what went down over there. that is ALL.
Tumblr media
kamukoma: it's just like. dark komahina. what was i supposed to do. not. not be interested? I ALREADY LIKE KOMAHINA LEAVE ME ALONE. IZURU IS FREE REAL ESTATE ANYWAY LOOK IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE WAY THAT KAMUKURA IS A REFLECTION OF HINATA--//gets shot before I can finish my thesis. double bingo.
Tumblr media
NDRv3:
Oumasai: no bingo for the v3 otp. that's rough. anyway why would anyone be surprised i liked this one when i like komahina. it's komahina at a 45 degree angle: there are fun parallels that compel me, but the difference in evolution makes it more fun.
Tumblr media
tenmaki: is this dynamic real? no. but do I think that it would be cute? yes. mutually good for each other even. gym buddies. 10/10
Tumblr media
Crossover: this only exists so we all collectively acknowledge the elephant in the room. presenting with my longest deep sigh ever...
Oumakura: also by friends with benefits i do in fact mean enemies with benefits. do not get it twisted. i can't believe this got a bingo.

This is going to be my most controversial post yet, and it's like my first one about League ever. Here we go.
I kind of have a lot to say, but I don't want to make this one of my longer rants. But I wanna try and keep it short and sweet. I'm like beyond sick of seeing Timebomb/Ekko x Jinx things. Don't get me wrong. I am a firm believer in shipping what you want to ship and everyone will have a ship that is considered too wild for the average consumer and you should let them HAVE that. This isn't a post to attack people's opinions, it isn't a rant on how fans have shit taste. As a disclaimer especially that last one because I USED to be a Timebomb shipper. But then Arcane happened. And here's the thing: The ship has been cute. Riot themselves mentioned wayyyyy back when it wasn't canon in the slightest but they even liked some of the art that cropped up. Ekko's first voice line to Jinx kind of told us right off the bat how he's fallen out of infatuation with her...but it was cute for a time to think that maybe...just MAYBE there was something in Jinx that be slightly redeemed. And maybe that crush could be resparked. But then Arcane happened. Yes, I repeated that. Because see what happened is: It kind of changed everything. And I don't think people are acknowledging this. They're seeing: "Oh my god! These two grew up as close friends and now they're on opposing sides and must grow close together again!" No. This is not what happened. You clearly watched a different show. Yeah. I am aware when it comes to Arcane it is a highly complex show and it can be interpreted several different ways. Let me tell you: This is not one of those ways. Saying that is is is like saying that you interpret Vi's hair as blue and Jinx's hair as red. Cool story, but that's clearly wrong. You might want to get tested to see if you're colorblind. Ekko and Jinx's story is a t r a g e d y; and that is so CLEARLY the intent it actually hurts you to realize how unrepairable their relationship is. They can't even be friends, bros! Like look at the people she murdered, what she was an accomplice to! Like I half-feel like she could go and murder Ekko's parents and people would be saying that he'd tongue her down with the blood on her hands! And to calm down for a second, lemme just point out this isn't my real main issue with it. If you like a fucked ship, you like a fucked ship. I ain't judgin. Who among us hasn't like liked some edgy shit that almost slips out out the realm of being taboo it's so damn bad? Like I won't act like I won't. But you know what I also won't act like? Like it's healthy. Like it is still cute and wholesome. Like it is a means to run around and bully people for shipping Ekko with different characters instead of bowing to what people have unofficially made the Fanlock Ship for these two characters. Those people need to fuck off. I stand by what I said. Ship what you like. Like what you like. We're all human and we're all wildly different. But oh my god...there is a very huge problem of people looking at art: attempting to force the cute shit to be canon, and then blaming people who actually pay attention to the lore and Arcane for not being into it. This is getting ridiculous. This ship shouldn't have gone as far as it has. But yet you have people out here acting like it's the most primary and sensible thing to do with the characters. It's not. It's borderline psycho. Understand that people that actually care and compare Ekko's and Jinx's personalities (In the now I should say. Because I actually understand people shipping them when they were young) do not see this ship so easily anymore. Personally, it's died for me. And goddammit, this actually turned into a long rant. But I'm more than a bit annoyed considering I've been getting on average like two to three pissy people a day that can't believe I don't ship Timebomb anymore. I have pretty valid reasons. And I hope people start to understand that.

This is 100% meant to provoke me, but I'm going to make a post about it anyway. 1, because it's funny to me, and 2, because this is important.
Apparently, a couple of posts with notes BARELY in the double digits - and I'm literally the only one talking about this - is a threat to these people. Enough of a threat to create an empty smurf blog, come on my post, and insult me with ableist slurs and accusing me of "always spewing bullshit". Not to mention this is long after the post in question was made, so whoever it was had to DIG.
So let's talk about what motivated this. In particular, the post this comment was made to is a post about the Destiny fan wiki Destinypedia, specifically its record of institutional homophobia and erasure of canon same-sex relationships. The post made is also specifically in relation to recent drama with the ship O14, of which there has been so much I forget which "incident" motivated it.
So, why have I been trying to spread the word about Destinypedia? Why have I been "spewing my bullshit"?
I don't try to pull rank much, but I have been playing Destiny a long, long time. When Ishtar Collective was just getting started, I was a moderator on the forums. I'm not active now because I wound down after a traumatic head injury, but the staff at Ishtar are wonderful and represent the fandom well. This was when Myelin and Byf and all the other big names in lore were just getting started; people were TALKING about the game for the first time. We had to break up "Rasputin shot the Traveler" arguments and the like every other week. That is more or less why I view myself as a bit of an old salt.
At that time I also joined Destinypedia to contribute. While editing articles and finishing pages, I found something curious happening. If I made edits calling Eriana-3 and Wei Ning a couple (which I did, several times, because that is and always has been canon and a factual representation of their relationship) those edits were rolled back, with increasingly passive-aggressive ways to call them "friends" in their place. If you read their articles today, the denial has stopped, although the acknowledgement of their romantic relationship reads as reluctant and almost painful.
Even to this day, if you look at Osiris and Saint-14's pages, the fact that they are in a romantic relationship is only addressed in the Trivia section, while the main articles still aggressively call them "friends", or "comrades", or quite literally anything but what they are. They are lovers. Boyfriends. Partners (romantic). You can use as clinical language as you want to feel like you're keeping your journalistic integrity, but erasing this canonical fact is unacceptable, especially in a resource that many fans will use to inform and justify their opinions. Especially in a fandom where, despite the LGBT-affirming canon of the source material, so much denial and homophobia goes on in casual conversation among the player base.
Much more than these, Destinypedia has a history of harboring misinformation. It has certainly improved over time, but there is still an issue of editors documenting headcanon as cold canon fact. Until these problems are fixed, I will continue "spewing my bullshit", because more people deserve to know about this gaping missing stair.

I was thinking about that animation (the Not Your Seed one). While I liked it and while I loved Loki in The Dark World, I can't help but wonder why in that movie it was never acknowledged what Loki went through. It was the perfect timing. I'm not talking about big changes in the plot, it would have been enough to mention Thanos during the "trial", for example, or during the interactions between Loki and Thor... even a snarky remark from Loki and a startled expression from Thor would have been enough, honestly XD because it would have put Loki's past, and expecially the motivations behind the Battle of New York, in canon. I am a bit bitter about this, I think.
No wonder you're bitter about it, I think we all are in a way.
I can somewhat understand why he didn't bring it up during the "trial" because Odin had no interest in listening to him or hearing anything he had to say, he had already decided that Loki was guilty and took the opportunity to hurt him a little more then send him off to the dungeons (I've been wanting to write a piece about this scene for a while, I have to get to it!).
But you're right, they should have mentioned it somehow, not just his time with Thanos but his heritage. It would have helped further Thor's arc as well since it was always meant to be him finding out the truth about his family and his home then moving on from it a changed man. But Ragnarok came and well... we all saw how that went.
Perhaps during their time on the ship they could have talked about it, Thor blaming Loki for Frigga's death (undeservedly but the poor thing was mourning) then Loki replying something in the lines of "yeah, blame the Jotun" and Thor stopping on his tracks, maybe thinking of the many times he said as a kid that he would "slaughter them all" and looking now at his brother knowing he heard it and he remembers that too... or trying to talk about NYC and Loki saying under his breath "like I had a choice" hoping Thor won't hear but he does then there's an awkward silence between them so Thor asks and Loki gets defensive and they fight over it... dunno, these are probably terrible but I'm not a writer lol!
The only thing we have in canon that the NYC invasion was led by Thanos is this and the many scenes in the Avengers where the Other is controlling Loki + a few post-credit scenes here and there. So it is canon, just like Loki's mistreatment in the past... the problem is now Marvel doesn't want to go there anymore so they try to retcon his character in the hopes that we'll forget.
